Booked Abbey wood as a base to explore London and wasn't disappointed! 5 minutes from station and 30 minutes to tower bridge which swaps onto underground. Perfect! Came with my husband and 2 children. Lovely welcome on arrival, Warm and friendly with directions to the train station which was helpful. Was able to pick own pitch due to being quiet so pitched up right next to toilet and park which was perfect. Site was clean and quiet. Facilities where good. My only slight negative was the shower blocks where a little chilly. I'm assuming windows were open due to covid but the showers where hot and powerful so fine when in the shower, just chilly when dressing. Can't wait to come back in a couple of years to explore more!

The site is wonderfully quiet, not far from the train station. Train into london is around 30 mins. I would say that the log cabin i was in could be a little bigger, but that is the only negative.

To start the staff are so friendly and helpful. This must be down to working in one of the Best sites available. The location gives easy access to London by train, but the bonus of wildlife makes you believe you are in the middle of a park, the wake up call of parakeets flying around. Squirrels everywhere and the very clean foxes. A definite return visit site

We take our motorhome down to London and stay here often. The facilities are first-rate and kept clean and in very good order. The staff are especially welcoming and friendly - really lovely, in fact - and go out of their way to be helpful. It's situated near a big park and woods, which our dog loves. It's also 10 minutes' walk from Abbey Wood station, with frequent trains to Greenwich and central London - it's about 25 minutes by train to London Bridge station. The Elizabeth Line will also run to Paddington once Cross-Rail is up and running. A Co-Op nearby and a large Sainsbury's near the station. Abbey Wood (the settlement) is a bit dowdy, and we're a little weary when walking between the station and the site. Nevertheless, the campsite comes highly recommended!

1st night was a disappointing one. We pitched up on a serviced pitch overlooking the park where some tents were pitched. Unfortunately the group of tents were partying until 0100. I went down at 2300 to have a word as we have a 2 year old who couldn't sleep due to the noise but was ignored. They were read the riot act by the wardens the next day and all was well in the world again. Stopped four nights and only had issues once so not bad in the grand scheme of things. Location to the nearest train station is spot on and is a really nice maintained site. Only reason for dropping one star is allowing none club members to pitch up in large groups.

A little oasis. Staying here for two weeks whilst receiving medical treatment in London. A perfect bolt hole with easy access to Central London (~35 mins by train) but it has the feel of a country side location. A good pub near by (Abbey Arms) which serves good Pizza. Would recommend if you’re looking for a cheap place to stay in London.

Loved it. Brilliant staff and lovely site, the staff go above and beyond to make you welcome and look after you. We arrived early hours after 7hr drive due to road closures and the staff arranged for electric hook up and toilet facilties to be set up for our arrival. Best customer service I have ever had, and I have visited many caravan and Motorhome campsite parks around the country. On one occasion went out sight seeing for the evening and mistakenly left the motorhome keys in one of the locks on motorhome and recieved phone call from the staff whom had noticed and secured motorhome and kept keys safe for when we got back from our evening out. I'll be going back to London in August for short break and Abbey Wood Caravan and Motorhome club campsite is where I will be booking to stay. Thanks to the staff for looking after us and making our short break much more pleasurable with your excellent customer service. We had a great short break holiday, see you soon 👍

A little haven in london! We camped in the green in the middle - we were worried about space but there was plenty for our 6 tents and 5 other groups without an issue. The bathrooms were in excellent condition and the grounds in general were extremely well kept. The staff were super friendly and accommodating for any questions or needs we had. Getting dominoes delivered was easy which is a big plus in my books ;) Would definitely recommend camping or caravanning here :)

So well placed to visit London, where else in the vicinity could you have home comforts, lovely surroundings for that price? We had a serviced pitch this year, could have been more level - hence only 4 stars but apart from that all the services worked well. The wardens are always so friendly and if they didn't have to use their leaf blowers around afternoon nap time all would be perfect. Lots of wildlife to see, foxes, parakeets, squirrels and a myriad of native birds, an area of peace and tranquility to return to after sight seeing. The train is a short walk from the site so the car gets a rest too, Sainsbury's a short walk away, Lidl just a bit further but if you're buying heavy things best to take the car. Bus stops even closer to the site than the train and you can get to any part of London from here. A lovely spot, we return year after year.

This is a great campsite, situated close to London with easy access to the us and train network to Central London, so a good place to stay if you want to visit London (tourism etc). The site is gated and set in woodlands so offers a quiet environment despite being close to London. The facilities are excellent as you would expect from the Caravan Club, and its very popular with continental visitors, although less busy during the off season months, open all year. Recommended.

Friendly staff and lovely clean site. Easy access to London and all attractions. Stayed for 2 nights so that we had a full day on the capital. Well worth a visit.

Busy site, with lots of Europeans. Cars, caravans and motor homes have defined spaces (just over 100), and tents have their own area in which you can position your tent where you like. We had enough room to play with a frisbee. In spite of the numbers of people, the toilet block we used was very clean and pleasant-smelling. Dish-washing areas also were pretty good; a shame some of the users leave a mess! The whole site was clean and tidy, and grassy areas had not been eroded. Check-in was efficient and friendly. At night there was some road noise, and owls were calling to each other all night! Lights are left on all night, so you can see your way around the site without a torch. We were told that foxes and squirrels can be a problem, but they didn't attack our tent.

Convenient campsite to visit London. You walk 10min to the train station and will be in the city 30min later (zone 4). The pitches for caravans and trailers are flat with gravel. Tents go to a slightly hilly gras area in the center without any marked pitches. Sanitary blocks are clean and plenty. A nearby road and the London City Airport are clearly present but do not disturb too much. Prices are high but this is London.

Late 97 was tough time ,but, just the right amount of smiles both before & after Diana, their professionalism was reassuring & relaxing, summer & late spring we were parked up enjoying wealth of historic & contemporary attractions, for me, Greenwich, then naval & docks hit 6s, locally, plenty of shops with a variety of restaurants while train & buses have you all round the city easily. So many pros for this site. PS, sad to hear temp closed, we parked up the hill get acorns & squirrels if under tree, regular fox & bunny visits, real sanctuary 10 mins from London Bridge

This is a great site and the wooded grounds are peaceful considering the proximity to London. It is lovely to hear the birds and to see the wildlife. It is less than a 10 minute walk to the railway station and there are a few small convenience stores en route, but it is not a location you would want to linger.

Would definitely recommend this campsite. Caretakers are really friendly and there is enough transportation possibilities to central London. What is nice over here is that it's really green and open. You get the feeling that you're camping in the park. There are enough power plugs on the camping field, just bring your normal blue camping connector. Update after a week here : I really want to compliment you guys on your Wifi. Ok, you need to pay for it, but it is definitely worth it's price. It is fast and reliable. I have never been on a campsite where the internet almost felt like home.

We’ve stayed here several times. Feels like we have our personal London home. Beautiful setting especially for a city camp. Pitches are level but the grounds have a lovely, wooded incline. Easy to get supplies at stores near by, Train to London is 6-10 min walk. Wardens are nice and professional. The grounds and facilities are always well maintained. A family of foxes live on the grounds so you might want to listen to a recording of a fox so you know what they sound like and you aren’t alarmed when you hear it. (they sound like a human terror screaming - in 20+ nights that we’ve stayed here we’ve only heard the foxes once, not a regular occurrence) Only complaint is the WiFi can be patchy. 90% of the time it works sufficiently, but our last visit it went out around 17:00 and was still out when we left at 9:00 the next morning. You can pay for WiFi per day, week or year - one device per paid account. Playground is nice. On site dog walk is available, but the park down the street is better. Price is comparable to all major city camps in Europe.

A very pleasant site to visit. Pretty much a hidden gem on the outskirts of London and that staff are some of the friendliest people I've ever met. If you are down for a weekend or a week you will be made to feel welcome at any time of the year. Although watch out for the squirrels they do like a good scavenge. We have 2 or 3 visits a year to Abbey Wood. We love the site nicely set out and although it is a very busy site it never seems so. The friendly and helpful staff keep the site imacculate. There are always lots of interesting people to chat to from many different nationalities. Best of all it is only a short walk to bus and train stations taking you directly into central London. The green chain walks are also close by. Altogether a great site.

First time staying in a caravan, loved it. Staff very helpful, even after hours, went above and beyond there job requirements. Easy to check in and out, even after hours. Everything you need in caravan and shops nearby for essential items. Only problem was the weather, rained all weekend but that's no reflection on the site or the staff. Things that are important to me when camping: shower facilities, location, pitch and staff. The shower facilities are beautifully kept clean, very well thought out, warm and practical. However, don’t rely on the hairdryers, they are next to useless, and there are no plug sockets next to the mirrors for hair straighteners. The laundry room is good, £4 for a wash and £1 for the dryer with extra hand washing sinks. The reception has a very limited amount of things for sale, just essentials and ice creams. There is no cafe, though it is close to the village centre and there are cafes and fast food there if you don’t want to cook. The location is perfect for commuting into central London for sightseeing, a gentle 10 minute stroll to the station. It’s unexpected to find this campsite in the middle of a London housing estate. Sainsbury’s is literally 4 minutes drive away. There is nothing for entertainment on this site, as most people are out for the day, so no loud music blasting means most people are in bed by 10pm or 11pm at the latest. We pitched a tent for 10 days, a family of four. The tent field is very relaxed. We could pitch where we wanted to near an electric source. There were no boundaries to stick to which gave us the freedom to put the tent where we wanted to. It was busy when we went in August, but there were no problems being in anybody’s way. It is slightly in a slope, but not enough to fall out of bed, and the ground was very hard to peg in, but it was during a heatwave and the ground was solid. Beware of the local squirrels and foxes! They like to steal shoes! Also, we had squirrels gnaw through the back of our food cupboard and eat our food as we left it in the awning on our first day out. After that we left it inside the main tent with our bag of shoes when we went out to be on the safe side! The staff were very helpful and polite when we needed them. They are always busy keeping the site clean and maintained. A recommendation would be not to pay for the on site WiFi. I requested a refund which was easily enough done. I paid £10 for each gadget for 7 days, but it was never used as I couldn’t get on. Patchy at best. I decided to pay for a data add on for myself and the kids instead. It was much more reliable. To conclude, we had a very pleasant stay here in Abbeywood. Definitely recommended for a central London stay.

They also have some camping cabins and pods which were not full when we visited and a tent area which also had space. Easy access to trains and buses for getting into London and elsewhere. I am actually writing this while on the site so it couldn't be more fresh! If you want somewhere to stay with a motorhome, caravan or tent very close to London, this is the place. Its clean, quiet, secure and just a few minutes walk from the train into the city. Its not a great area of London and there are few tourist attractions immediately nearby. However it is great value for money (34.50 GBP per night as a non member) and 2.50 a day for wifi. I browsed the other reviews before writing this and anyone who thinks this is too expensive or isn't what it promises are wrong. Its what most people are looking for in a tent, motorhome or caravan. High recommended and well Caravan Club.

Rural oasis in the metropolis! Peaceful and safe sight with excellent facilities and perfect for London sight seeing. The site comes complete with a colony of parakeets, an army of squirrels and a friendly fox. Check out the glamping pods available...awesome.

Excellent site near London I love coming here even though I live only 16 miles away. It is so convenient to get to all the sites in london as the train station is only just down the hill and about 5 minutes walk Cannot understand people moaning about foxes as afterall it is in the middle of a wood so not sure what they expect really and there are warnings about leaving your shoes etc out. I think the price is good considering where it is and being in London.....you would pay so much more if you booked a hotel and wouldn't have the lovely surroundings that you have here. Paraquites flying around and squirrels running up and down trees. The toilets and park is always spotlessly clean and the staff couldn't be more helpful and even spend time helping tourists and visitors. I have to regularly visit guys hospital and come here rather than booking a hotel......it's lovely to come back to after a long day at the hospital

We arrived at Abbey Wood with a tent. The woman that helped us was not very friendly. It was not possible to have a pitch with electricity. The ground was not very flat. The second day we wanted to extend our stay with an extra night. Another woman helped us, but the woman that helped us yesterday interferred. She behaved like Sybil Basil. The third day is was not possible to park the car at the overnight parking bay. It was locked off. The people could be more polite at this expensive camp ground. We paid 33,20 pounds per night; twice as much as elsewhere. And the grass was not greener. Nearby the camping (10 minutes by foot) is a train station with connections to the city center in 30 minutes.

You honestly wouldn't believe this place is only 20 miles from Westminster! The site is an oasis of woodland in an otherwise urban location. It's so peaceful (we visited on August Bank holiday weekend) that it is a genuine pleasure to return to after sightseeing in London. Access to London is easy via a short 5 minute walk to Abbey Wood station which sees you into Waterloo, London Bridge, or Charing Cross stations. Note: when arriving at the site with a caravan, be sure to follies the directions provided by the site. Sat Nav will probably take you down the direct approach which has a narrow, step descent and a tight turn.

A lovely clean, secure and quiet site. Easy to get to London from it either by train or by bus. There were two shower blocks open, so never short of shower space with plenty of hot water. Big secure gate locked at night, so we felt very safe. Nice play area for kids and lots of wild life to spot. You wouldn't know you're in London!
