Reviews of Backyard Comedy Club
C. M.
Loved this place! 1 of the few places where they have a whole section of non-alcoholic drinks- from lagers to gin to wines! 👏🏾 The comedy show was pretty good- definitely worth your money and time. Also the staff are super friendly👏🏾
A. S.
Went for the Thursday comedy show. It had a mix of great acts and some not great but I guess that's how comedy works. Bar is nicely stocked and their pizza is really good.
B. L.
Absolutely brilliant - every comedian was top drawer and had the entire place laughing from start to finish. If you sit in the front row, expect to be included in the acts, but it's all done in great fun. Beer is also reasonably priced and you xan by 4pint jugs if there's a few of you for even better value. Highly recommended for a top night out
J. H.
As always a good cheap night out, tickets are usu.£10 each but you get a ten pound voucher to to spend on entry for food and drink in the venue (stops time wasters booking free tickets I presume)
Intimate venue, max 200 people I'd say. Limited selection of food is passable, (You don't go there for the food!!) plenty of alcohol.
Been twice, Lee himself is still funny, with a mix of other visiting guest comics and comperes.
Good, fun, adult night out, plenty of swearing and laughter but all very good natured.
You won't regret going
Thumbs up for this..👍
C.
Absolutely cannot fault this place. The ticket prices are so reasonable and it’s just perfectly setup for what it is. Not pretentious, decent range of drinks and the comedians were excellent. Loved it!
J.
The whole feeling of this place hits the spot. It is neither pretentious nor makes one feel despondent. It is as comedy should be, unassuming. One can grab a simple snack and a drink while waiting. Once ushered into the main hall, you pick your seat. Those who bravado or liquor sit upfront.
The emcees play well with the audience — no easy task warming people up. The crowd is pleasant, the intermissions are welcome, and the main acts are a delight.
It is an excellent way to spend a Saturday night or set the tone for a fun night afterwards. Highly recommended.
V. R.
Awesome place! The show was incredible. Has a nice kitchen and bar, which are absolutely fantastic to have during the show. Would definitely come again!
J. K.
Great comedy club. Lot of big names are "testing" their new material there. It's very laid back. In the bar area they have pool table and table tennis. You can order some snacks food including vegetarian options. Food and drink prices same as everywhere else in London. Tickets for show usually around £12. Worth visiting.
M. T.
It's grungy. It's grimy. It's golden.
They are set-up perfectly for comedy. Good sized room so it's intimate but still buzzing. The comedians we saw were outstanding and the price we paid was a steal.
The food wasn't great, but that wasn't why we were there so we weren't phased. Good selection of beers on tap which was a bonus.
A. R.
Absolutely fantastic. This inexpensive ticketed night is a hysterical way to spend an evening. The small venue size makes it all the more warm and intimate to enjoy the incredible acts on. The excitement of potentially seeing a television star comedian also makes for such an event of an evening. But no matter what, the acts selected there are all unbelievably funny and welcoming.
C.
Great show put on by the team @PoetryJam. ALL the performers on the day were excellent. Hats off to those making their public debuts. You showed nerves of steel 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Drinks are expensive & the food menu is very limited. Be Warned!
L.
Some of the best stand up comedy around at the moment. Good range of comedians and original material, unlike the sanitised, woke rubbish you see on tv a lot nowadays. The bar and toilets are basic but it's all about the comedy. £12 was good value.
U. O.
My first time at the @backyardcomedyclub yesterday and I had the most amazing time.
I laughed so hard my head and eyes hurt.
S. T. (.
Great little venue for stand up comedy shows. Seen some great performances there. Defo worth seeing what's on and checking it out. Nice bar area also with food and drink, table tennis and pool!
P. M.
Love the comedy, what Lee does here is special, especially those times when you get to see the man himself. But the restrictive pricing rules for entry, such as the £3 late fee if you turn up less than 45 mins before the start and losing the pre paid £10 food and drink vouchers for anyone in your group who doesn't turn up is disappointing. Just be transparent and treat your punters like adults and they'll in turn behave like them.
If you want people in early, perhaps you should offer incentives rather than the current system of punishments, then it'll leave a less bitter taste in the mouth for those who just want to have a good time.
K. G.
Great comedy night. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Really laughed till my face hurt.
k. a. A.
Went to watch Kojo and really enjoyed some parts of the comedy. Crowd and atmosphere was really good and towards the end he was interactive with the audience.
Show didn't start at 7pm like stated on the booking page it started a hour late.
All in all the show was good and would recommend! 👍🏾
R. V.
Top notch evening out. Very unassuming from the outside but worth every penny when the comedy starts. I've been so many time now and always looking for any excuse to go back
E. S.
I loved it. I got my pizza and nachos, got my drink and watched funny people making me laugh. so funny, so relaxing and so enjoyable atmosphere. believe it or not the show is free. Thank you guys.
B. L.
Great venue for the stand-up comedy. I couldn't remember laughing so much for a long time. Friendly bar staff with reasonably priced food and drinks.
W. E.
I'm going to keep it simple with this one. If you like comedy, new comedy, new artists, old artists, material testing, famous comedians, I was going to say cheap and cheerful but I think this under plays the experience, more reasonable and enjoyable prices and a menu which I think suits the audience that you would expect at a comedy store and I wear hands down for the price you pay and the length of time you spend listening to the comedians and mostly laughing, the best 3 hours you will get in london for the price. The local MCs (I'm not sure what you call the people who introduce them so apologies if I've got it wrong) are brilliant also. Always get the crowd going and always a great way for the comedians to see what type of audience they have for any adlib jokes/sketches. Love it .
P. G.
Cosy place but overpriced beer, although maybe most bars in London now sell pints at £6, unless you go to Wetherspoons. Atmosphere was good though.
D. F.
Flipping brilliant. Tickets cost £11 for about 3hrs of stand up comedy. Real cool vibe inside. Drinks reasonably priced, great staff, great acts...great night.
C. R.
Great night out, friendly staff and great comedy
P. C.
Loved this venue. Drinks and food were reasonably priced. The show was an amazing show of various comedians for an amazing cause #youngroots. Well done #suzieruffle for putting this together.
L. J.
Fantastic venue, (the best) new talent and famous faces. Don't be put off by the low prices, top comics use this place to try new material and want audience feedback more than money.
At a night called Suspiciously Cheap I saw 11 comedians (5 of whom I recognise off the TV) for £5. One of them was Nish Kumar!
L. D. T.
First off... the wicked thing about the Backyard Comedy is that if you want to go and watch stand up but are on a budget - it's FREE entry via their website but be aware when you book the ticket(s) it still allows for people to turn up! So make sure you get there early.
It's not a prominent place, so numbers will fill up quick!
Can't complain as you get a whole mix of people which is excellent. A lot of the comedians are warming up for big shows. Had a couple of guys on the night, where you could tell they were testing to see what works and what didn't — an exciting concept.
There is a nice large seating area beforehand, a good mix of drinks and food. Location is great too, accessible to transport and stations + a trip to brick lane beforehand was decent too 😊
Well worth trying it out.
We give it 4*

My mum and I had a great night out on Thursday. We got to see 9 comedians and a hilarious host! The cocktails are a bit pricy but thankfully a night of laughs makes up for it. (the gin and tonic was a small glass and 8 pounds 95 for a double... Other pubs do it for far less, so that was a bit of a shock) however, the show itself was awesome. Definitely worth the visit while traveling or even if a local in London. 😊
S. C.
Bought tickets for Saturday night comedy. The ticket clearly states that you need to arrive early, or risk paying a late fee. So we arrived early but there were already no available tables to sit at. After collecting our tickets and getting a drink we were then forced to just awkwardly stand by the bar until the staff let us in at 7.45 to sit down for the comedy, which had been billed to be starting at 7.30!
Once seated, we then had to wait a further 15 minutes before the MC came on stage at 8. By now we'd been in the venue a good hour, so we're ready to finally have a laugh.
The MC was average, she was loud enough already but she still shouted down the microphone at the audience.
There were 2 25 min intervals for 4 comedians, which seemed excessive, especially considering they tell you to get there so early. This is clearly a ploy to get people to spend more money on food and drinks. It's cheeky, considering the tickets are already £12.
All the comedy acts were average apart from the headliner of Neil Delamere, he was fab and saved the night from being a complete flop if I'm honest.
Wouldn't bother coming back unless it was a real favourite comedian I was desperate to see. I'd recommend the Angel comedy club for a cheaper and better night all round!
J. B.
Quality evening, great comedians through out the night. Would definitely go again
K. A.
A fantastic night thanks to some great comedians. Top of the bill Mr Hurst himself. Brilliant as always, even a short encour from him, even though he was suffering. Left us with a wicked thought thanks to his last tale.
Cheers Lee!!
Be back again when you're on again.
S. M.
Quincy and Slim having a heart to heart on stage... brilliant night .... so many true to life experiences exposed .... very interactive ... my cheeks were in pain at the end of the night with laughing .... the venue itself is in a prime spot easily accessible from the overhead station and buses... food and drinks available.... Will go again
c. a.
Had a great night here. Decent bar, nice sized venue, obviously comes down to the quality of the comics and on the night I went they were fantastic.
V. a.
Been here at least 30 times, used to live in the area and when they opened they had a yearly membership.
Comedy wise it's a great place!
Drinks are not very expensive and you can even get a 4 pint jug of beer.
Food wise it's not amazing but functional.
V. C.
I haven't been here since pre covid and coming back was great! We came on a Wednesday for the first time which were new acts - wonderful idea and lovely evening with friends
A. P.
Really great evening at the Backyard Comedy Club. Comedians were very funny and was enjoyable. Gets quite packed when waiting and they clearly get more money from the drinks (hence getting you to be there 45 mins before it starts and having 2 breaks in between), but considering it was only £5 for the ticket, really can't complain. Good place
B.
Great night out out, comedy hero's manager and staff great. Best in town.
The Place to be 🙂 🏅🎫⭐
A. P.
Fantastic comedy in a relaxed venue with fab food and drink. Highly recommended.
A. M.
Another great night at Comedy Unleashed, featuring Dominic Frisby and his supporting band the Gilets Jaunes. Everyone is so friendly there and I always meet some new people.
N. B. (.
We had to reach 45 minutes early and get a stamp (or pay a £3 late fee). We reached early and it was a lively and buzzing atmosphere.
There was a bar offering basic food (pizza, chips etc) and drinks. There were a good number of board games, pool table and ping pong table for entertainment before the show.
I paid a fiver for a Thursday night and there were 9 comedy acts which was well worth the price!
Half the seats inside had a small table as well for food and drinks which was quite convenient (compared to other comedy clubs I've been to).
There were two breaks in the middle so we ordered food in the first break and it was ready for the second break.
D.
Went here a few weeks ago. Didn't think I would enjoy it, as my sense of humour is really dry. But there was such a diverse range of comedians that I laughed from start to finish. Would recommend for a night out. Just stay away from the front row unless you want to become part of the entertainment.
M. S.
We went to a show last night to see some fresh comedic talent compete in knockout rounds, voted through or knocked out based on audience cheer. For £3.30 a head, it was unbelievable value for money. The show lasted about 2 hrs including breaks and there were some real belters that I'll be thinking about for the next few days. Great atmosphere and good views of the stage no matter where you sit as it's an intimate setting of only 50 people, mostly on tables and chairs.
S. M.
Cosy, friendly and easy to access. I went there with my baby (and a pram) for a BYOB event. It was absolutely excellent! Thank you so much.
R. D.
Great place for great comedy shows. We come several times a year for 'An Evening Of Unnecessary Detail' by the Festival of the Spoken Nerd, which is always fun. There are bar snacks, tables, games, food and obviously lots of beers and other drinks. Short walk from Bethnal Green Tube station.
E. R.
My brother received an email with free tickets so we thought we would come and see what the backyard comedy club was like. We enjoyed our evening, I was in tears with laughter at one point. Close to shops and Bethnal Green train stations both tube and overground
R. A.
Great venue, good beers and excellent comedy. Helpfully signposted at the tube station. And a pool table!
N. G.
1st visit, will definitely be back.
Perfect access for people with disabilities.
L. h.
Kojo 1st Sunday of every month was missed this month on April as he was in LA, but Kareem was off the hook as host...comedy is raw and unites everyone in one goal of humanity whilst laughing at it
A.
Nice intimate ambience. Clean toilets. Great comedy show.
s. s.
Fantastic entertainment provided by Kane Brown
S. B.
I've been here before and always had a good time but that was pre-pandemic. However, they've managed to make the place feel covid safe without sacrificing any of the original atmosphere. The venue has also clearly been spruced up and looked very fresh. So...hats off to the management. Great venue! Great value! Great night!
N. B.
Small hall but production is decent. Paul Choudhury was the highlight. £60 for a table for 4, really good price but keep in mind the table barely fits all 4 especially if you get food as well.
Food wasn't up to scratch but I kinda figured it out. You'll have a heart attack if you see the prices 😂😂. Basically £5 for starters and £7-9 on pizza that really ain't that good.
If you got money and don't really care about the taste, be my guest. 3 stars because of the comedy.
S. H.
A great night out. Intimate friendly venue. Bar with hot bar food. Wide variety of comedy and music. If it's funny it's funny.
O. S.
Great night at the Comedy Club.
This purpose built establishment is well designed, spacious and easy to find.
They also have Table tennis, Table Football and a Pool Table.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The four acts we saw were all very good especially Nathan Catton who closed the show.
The bar serves a selection of beers, spirits and wine as well as soft drinks.
They have a food menu which consists mainly.of nibbles and finger food.
The prices are all reasonable.
We had a great night and I will certainly be returning in the near future.
An excellent night out with friends.
P. L. (.
Brilliant atmosphere, had a great night in here!
V. F.
Great place to have fun listening stand-up comedians! Recommend!
J. S.
Great comedy club, good location and great price for entry and drinks.
M. M.
100% recommended but stay away from their food - awful quality I wouldn't eat it for free
C. M.
A bit chilly to start with, soon warmed up. A good variety of acts, well worth the money. Audiences felt a bit stiff, maybe out of practice following all the lockdowns!
s.
Superb comedy club!
The name couldn't be better chosen, it feels like you are sitting together in your neighbourhood, enjoying a show.
M. G. N.
Incredible comedians. I had a lot of fun. However, the crow was very drunk and load. Two members of the public were very rude to a cute comedian woman saying things like "she is hot". It was disgusting.
N. B.
Its a great club, easy to get to and good dight lines.
B. O.
Service a quite slow and side dish portions a bit small. Pizzas looked good.
N. C.
Best place ever!! Top comedian, good crowd, proper stuff. Laughed all night!
J. C.
Everything was nice venues nice comedies nice bar staff nice the patrons were nice
S. O.
Some really good acts and mm ore importantly.FUNNY!!
Drinks are quite pricey but all in all a good night out! Definitely recommend.👍🏼😀
L. A.
Popular venue, and friendly environment. Comedy venue hidden in room behind bar. Had a great night.
T. L.
Good BBC show and got front row seat.
F. M.
Great lineup of comedians from different parts of the country as well as abroad! Obviously, some will make the audience laugh non-stop others less so, but overall - very pleasant!
S. W.
Brilliant fun! Good sized bar. No Covid restrictions.
J. B.
Simple, honest, good value "new material" night which went down well. As expected and explained to us, not all comedians/material on this night was good, but we enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be back. Good variety and excellent compere.
Food is a little basic but it's also very good value so that's fair enough! Offered free cakes to all which was a nice touch too.
S. J.
I went to a Friday Night show, the line up was hilarious! I would recommend you go if you enjoy some good ol' British comedy.
G. D.
Really interesting venue. The actual comedy club is in a medium size room with a stage and a single level array of seats for customers, around 250 I believe. Adjacent is a pleasant bar with a good range of drinks, snacks, pizzas etc. The bar is accessible off the street for everyone. You obviously need a ticket to enter the comedy club. Tickets are available online. This is a popular place which attracts all sorts of comic events and many well known comedians so booking early is a good idea. I went to a regular monthly event called "an evening of unneccesary detail" which for want of a better phrase is "geek comedy". I am happy to recommend this venue.
D. C.
A-Musical at the backyard Comedy Club is bloody brilliant...go and see it. Drinks reasonable...pizza is half decent too!
J. R.
It's a bit rough and ready. Rubbish beer selection and food has all taken the tried and tested path from freezer to microwave or deep fat fryer.
But they do have ping pong and pool, and the comedy was just great for the money.
I'd highly recommend it and will be back.
D. G.
Went to the amateur night and LMAO. Highly recommend!
N. K.
Formerly Lee Hurst's Backyard Comedy Club, the venue still services its comedy roots and is still owned by Hurst. There's a lively bar out front while the comedy action takes place out in the backroom. The sparse decoration (if old pallets can be classed as decoration?) is to focus your attention non the comedy and gives the place a warehouse like feel. I been here plenty of times and it's usually packed and fun, with a great atmosphere. It's worth noting the ticket collection details on your booking (usually at least 45 minutes prior to the start time) as you can be charged to collect them if you're late. However don't be too surprised if the show itself doesn't actually start on time! You'll let them off though, and it's a bit of a tradition when watching live comedy!
R. D.
Been a few times, had 2 really good experiences and one below average. You need to get there before 7:15 to not incur a £3 charge, but you can do this at any time and come back for the start at 8pm. Seen some really funny acts, and some average acts too. Has table tennis, table football, and a good range of beers.
C. M.
A great evening out, plenty of laughs and a good menu of drinks and food for before and during the show
G. R.
3 sets of 3 comedians on a Thursday night for £5. I went recently and it was my first ever live standup experience. Had an absolute blast! The guy who was introducing the acts was hilarious and the 9 acts who supposedly are fighting for Friday night positions were all amazing! Would definitely struggle to choose a 'best act'. Will be visiting again soon, I hope!
R. G.
Had a great night watching the recording of the brilliant Mark Watson radio
Programme for Radio 4. Drinks were London prices so not many consumed but as for the venue, can’t fault it. An excellent evening.
J. B.
The acts are always of very good quality. Drinks are a bit pricy (London for you), but the food is decent and fairly priced. The comedy is very good value, however I have never seen "big" acts on a Friday or Saturday night there. That said I have never seen a bad act at this venue. I am a member, and enjoy going there.
m. b.
Lee hurst is one funny man, great nights entertainment, wish you put on more bar staff tho,20 minutes to get a drink before the act starts is ridiculous.
J.
Went to see Festival of the Spoken Nerd with Matt Parker. It was awesome.
Great bar and quirky environment - they've got a great roadsigns theme going too.
Would definitely recommend to anyone who is thinking about seeing a comedy act here. I've also heard they sell pizza and other various food bits too.
H. C.
If you are lucky enough to attend a good line up then this is the place. Very spacious venue and bar with some good nibbles served and games. The fact that they make you queue 1 hour before to get your tickets or you are liable to a 3 pounds fine is annoying. I got to the venue exactly 1 hour before and preferred to get a drink than spending 30 mins in the queue. I still had to pay for it. The system needs to change, or they should just charge 3 extra pounds for the ticket and make it more transparent.
R. S.
Small but nice place with bar at front. If comedians are good, it can be a wikid night. Book in advance online to get cheap tickets otherwise tickets are not always guaranteed on the door.
S. R.
Intimate venue, decent air con, £3 extra charge if you get there less than 45 mins before the start, which is to get you to have a couple of drinks, kind of reasonable at a development night that was just £8 a ticket. Plenty of room in the bar area, welcoming staff.....and the comics were funny too:-)
S. K.
Came here for the first time upon friend's recommendation who is a "lifetime member". Good comedy, Good night. And drinks reasonably priced but customer service could be better (Black girl behind bar was moody and no eye contact).
R. N.
Very good comedians but the bar service is a bit hit and miss. Tickets often available on discount sites cheaper than from the venue itself
J. B.
It was a pleasure to be there lots of people there made for a wonderful atmosphere for the comics to work off. A good night
S. “. L.
Decent bar in selection, prices and service, nice food and excellent comedy nights on regularly. Well worth trying, particularly if you can catch a comedy evening. Staff were nice and friendly, too. A good night out.
P. A.
Good comedy in a room connected to a bar. They have a weird attitude to tickets, you have to arrive a long time before the show or there's an extra charge to get in, even if you have a pre-booked ticket. And get a stamp on your hand for some reason.
R. N.
Good vibes, affordable drinks and food that you can bring into the auditorium. Feels quite casual.
W. S.
Just had a stellar night of comedy. All of the acts were on fire. Thursdays are the nights for comics to try out new material. All of the days are good of course. It has my absolute seal of approval. While it isn't necessarily family safe (some acts are close), the humor is funny and not just shocking or vulgar. If you're looking for something to do on a given night, stop by the Backyard Comedy Club and tell them Bill sent you.
K. P.
Great place. Relaxed, good value and brilliantly funny. Easy to get to and a really chilled atmosphere. I'm looking forward to my next visit.
A. P.
Came here to watch Kojo anim with my wife and parents the venue is great the staff are really friendly and helpful. The food and drink was extremely reasonably priced and the show was amazing. The event holds lots of different comedy nights we will definitely be back!
A. A.
Really great acts and a really great vibe
P. F.
I just love this place, it's not a big venue so it's very intermit. Best nights are when Lee is onstage, I'm sure this place should be on the list of places to do in life. Comedy is close to the mark at times, ahh who am I kidding, their aren't any boundaries. Just brilliant.
R. S.
Excellent little comedy venue. Very reasonably priced admission. Not overly priced bar. They could do worse than replacing the table tennis table in the bar with more seating though 😊.
E. L.
Very funny, good atmosphere.
M. G.
Funny comedy, good beer section, comfy seats. A great idea for a Friday evening with friends or alone!:)
I. J.
Been here a fair few times at the bar area to eat/drink with friends before a show at TRSE. Does get lively and busy at times. It's also local. I like that it's just nearby the shopping centre. Also has another theatre next door aswell as Picture House. Decent food served here. Good to go to before a show. Sometimes after a matinee aswell.
N. C.
Great venue for supporting the comedy scene
T. T.
Came here for the first time last weekend and I was pleasantly surprised! The tickets are cheap for comedy and the acts were very very funny/talented! It was a lovely evening, would definitely recommend if you want to see comedy for cheap !
M. R.
Good acts, nicely informal friendly atmosphere thanks to the staff - didn't realise it has its own Travelodge til I went there! Smaller auditorium than I expected; reasonably priced entry. Bus/TfL/tube connections good even well after stage show finishes. Hoping to get along again in near future.
R. V.
Great little place, well organised, reasonable prices (very good value for money) on drinks and entertainment. Nice space with some great features for entertainment like the pool table, ping pong, darts and Foosball machine. Pretty amazing place for young people, couples, and groups.
G. H.
Friendly staff, good comedy. Would get food next time as looked lush and generous portions.
S. W.
Made for a fun night out with friends. Drinks reasonably priced and entry was a good price also.
Comics on the night we attended were also all of a very good standard. Great midweek activity to get you through the week!
C. D.
A good night out with lots of comedians. Last time 6 out of 8 were good, but the first two were a bit iffy.
Drinks and food are reasonably priced.
The staff are friendly and helpful.
S. S.
Always a good night out here. Seven or eight varied but all quality act severy time.
Nice venue too. With chilling AC for fridge fanatics.
They have alot of comedy here throughout each month and it ought to be on your schedule if you are in London and a fan of comedy . However if you are a fan of Ed Sheeran or Coldplay please stay away...
Discovery of 2019 .......
Australian comedian DAN RATH.
A genuine mind of genius is coming through.....
D. H.
Great night out. Last Monday of the month 🙌
B. C.
Absolutely brilliant night, great acts, love coming here, one of my favourite places for a good Friday night out. Food really needs to be upgraded, more seats should be available too, (rather than ping pong table etc on show nights) . Very much recommend!!!!
B. M.
Well I've seen comedy here a couple of times but here most Monday nights for Bethnal Green Swing Patrol who run a great levels 1&2 swing class. Staff friendly and bar offers a range of beers (generally quality lagers, no hand pumps or real ales I don't think) and coffee/tea. They've a pool table, sofas and sit-up chairs and tables. Serves as a student bar for the halls next door and feels like a student bar as such. The back space that hosts the comedy and swing nights a good-sized space (no natural light) and the venue stands out if only as in an area with little else around in the immediate vicinity (though The Pill Box at the end of the alley also good).
B. V. D.
Comedy is Top Draw. Laughed alot and alot! I've been about 6 times over 2 years and always had fun. Food is good and beer prices are ok but better if you buy pitchers. Staff have always been welcoming. Ellis & Rose! Great night out!
E. L.
We had an amazing time! Maureen Younger was hosting and was great. We particularly enjoyed Alistair Williams’ performance! We’ll definitely come back to see different artists.
L. A.
No frills comedy club, really funny comedians. As with any stand up it can be a bit hit and miss between acts but overall for the price and atmosphere it's worth taking a punt. Look out for cheap tickets with well known comedians trying out new gig material.
K. S.
Shabby-chic venue with a large array of acts all through the year. They serve food and drinks here. The main things are pizza and nachos.
The venue itself is quite small. There is nothing truly special about it. It is just a small room with a small stage containing uncomfortable seats. Luckily they are not too unbearable.
The club has a great selection of comedians that help outweigh the small issues with it.
J.
Best non smoking comedy club in Bethnal green
A. W.
I've been coming here for about five years now and really like the place. They offer a good selection of largers, bitters, IPA's and some speciality beers. You can also buy 4 jugs of beer. The comedy shows are held in the back room, with the seats sold on a first come basis.
The bar area can get a bit congested and the service can be a bit slow. I've seen about 20 shows there and never been disappointed. They serve food, which is mainly pizza, nachos and chips. There is also free water. All the times i've been i never seen any trouble inside the club or outside.
A. B.
I have been to this venue a couple of times for stand up comedy shows and both have been of a very high calibre, so couldn't recommend this place more! Only downside is the bar is quite small and can take a while to get some drinks in.
J. M.
We had to pay the £3 late fee which the manager pointed out to me was in the terms and conditions. Despite this I feel it is bit of a cheap trick as it seems by the reviews many people are not that aware of it as you’re sent a QR code which you would think is all you need.
Comedy was very mixed. A couple of being trying out very new stuff which I would have been annoyed about had I paid £15 on the door as it wasn’t good. During one set I felt so uncomfortable I could barely watch and think that was the general consensus.
Also paid £3.30 for 2 small packets of crisps which I thought was a bit excessive.
Probably wouldn’t return as the Poodle Club exists and I’ve never once had a disappointing night there!
P. P.
Ideal venue all week long to see some comedy and have a drink and some food.
Its ideal for a mates or works outing. Easy to organise, the venue are very helpful. And it makes for a memorable outing. Once you've been once, you'll be returning over and over again.
L. B.
Love this place, went for comedy knock out.. Awesome night relaxed vibes and great laughs
K. H.
Laughed all evening! Brilliant night! Only criticism was that we had to pay a late fee for not getting our hand stamped by a certain time even though we had pre booked. Not sure what that was about just seems like an extra way to make money but comedy was brilliant and I would highly recommend.
M. T.
My first time there I felt a bit let down, some average comedians a couple of decent ones think it’s luck of the draw. Around ~£6 so not bad - defo worth giving a shot
C. I. N.
The bar is nice, the comedy was bad, then good, then bad then good. So for a fiver in a Sunday night, I guess I shouldn't really complain. The bar person was miserable and unwelcoming, but thankfully this was made up by the really nice and friendly box office staff. Would come again, but would hope it was on that bar person's night off! 😀
D. Y.
Fantastic night. Friendly staff and quick service at the bar. Pool, table tennis and board games for everyone to partake in. Quality of the comedy was superb at a competitive price. Will definitely be going again.
G. V.
I wasn't on the comedy night, which is usually on Friday, but still it was great atmosphere with many young people. What I like here is that the music is not loud and you can hear each other. They have pool table as well!
M. J. b.
Saw Joel Sanders in his Angry Boater show here and loved it - a very entertaining & engaging comedy about living on a narrow boat on London's waterways. Having seen it though, I'll definitely be sticking with my flat. I went with 2 friends visiting from Italy who, despite not being fluent in English, enjoyed it too. It's a very accessible show. The Backyard is a fabulous comedy club in London's East End. Great. well priced food (loved the pizza) and a welcoming vibe.
J. B.
✅ go for the great comedy and the price - makes it accessible to most!
❌ don’t rely on the food.
A friend ordered at the same time and they continued to forget about it and didn’t even try to look apologetic. Over an hour later, it finally arrived.
D. I. S.
Saw the man himself last night - Lee Hurst. Absolutely brilliant.
This is what comedy is all about; tons of belly laughs. :-)
S. S.
Great atmosphere, great comics and great venue. My go to comedy club.
F. H.
Overall, this place is great. There is a lot of space with no obstructions to the stage, and the performances well produced. But don't go for the food...
R. J.
Comedy was good and tickets prices are really good value.
Bar staff really friendly and helpful
the food did not look great kind of glad we ate before we got there but if all you were after was a pizza for a quick bite I'm sure it would have been enough.
J. C.
Great night strongly recommend it
V. M.
Cool spot for some stand up comedy. They do have break up the performances in several parts to often with slightly to long breaks. Also bar service can be a bit understaffed during those breaks when everyone gets a drink during the break.
H. S.
Went to see Paul Chwdhury with cousins .Easily accessible...3 minutes walk from Bethnal Green station. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean toilets. The hall is small but didn't seem congested even when it was full house.
M. C.
Very warm and cozy place to chill. Great music, free ping pong and cheap pool. Drinks are a bit expensive but very descent. Quite alternative staff and costumers. I visit quite often so you might see me there if you are passing by. 🏓
M. E.
Great venue, modern but intimate. Loved the comedy. Comedy Lopez 😅
T. B.
So worth it! If you book 2 weeks in advance you get an early bird price but if not it's still value for money, one of the best comedy clubs in London!
R. A.
So much fun! A great little spot for drinks, laughs and grub!
B. W.
Decently large comedy venue with good value food. Quality of entertainment will of course vary, depending on the acts. But the venue itself is nice.
R. D.
Great evening with Lee Hurst. It was lovely to be out again. Staff all very friendly and helpful too.
P. T.
Didn't know what to expect as was attending the recording of a new sitcom for the BBC, it soon became apparent it was a radio production. Pre-recording drinks and nibbles were consumed and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish.
S. F.
I've been twice now and loved the shows both times. The bar is a bit slow due to the mass of people but I guess that can't be helped. Great for an evenings entertainment.
D. K.
The bar itself is nice and open, and my American Hot pizza was very nice. The drinks were OK, but nothing special and whilst I wouldn't necessarily come here for drinks it's a perfectly good place for food and drinks if you're visiting the comedy club out back! All the staff, including the manager, were very nice and service was great.
K. O.
Saw Lee Hurst on Sunday 15th so very funny, brilliant night
E. F.
Love this place! Who wouldn't want to spend their Thu evening laughing soo hard they cry, for a fiver?! Great value for money, comfy venue that comes with a pool table, table tennis and foosball just in case the comedy wasn't enough for ya 😄
Z. M. A.
It was a fun experience in a small and cosy place. The jokes were clever and spot on.
A. “. Y. h.
Favourite comedy venue, been 7 times now! Never seen the same act or joke, diverse but hilarious range of jokes. Don't sit at the front of you are easily offended
K. U.
I've had a great time every time I've been
G. P.
Great comedy venue. Always have good acts and lovely staff. Food is ok. Overall, a fantastic value night out in London.
N. B.
An amazingly under rated venue, great access, good food and drink and an amazing line up of comedians and other events . I was there for the Natural Born Storyteller's evening
j. c.
One of the best comedy clubs in London now doing storytelling and improv on quieter nights. Good fun venue and great staff. V near to the tube.
X. S.
Place was fine. Nice little venue. People running the event were friendly and hospitable. Food is not great though. Drinks are ok. Not badly priced.
T. M.
Bethnal Green back to basics comedy club. It comes with a bar area that has table tennis, lots of board games boxed up on tables spread over. pizza and burgers on order and available before and during the intervals. £superbly priced from £5 a performance and at that price its a cheap date with plenty of laughs. Shows start prompt and tickets must be collected 15 mins before show starts or the fee goes up.
cozy and seats are 4 arranged around a table.
S. F.
I've been here a few times now. And I love it every time.
Great night out.
B. O. B.
Great venue for comedy, and they do good food too. They could probably do with implementing some kind of queueing system though as it gets really busy just before a show and the queue naturally tends to go straight past the bar making it impossible ot get to...
B. L.
Great atmosphere, was very quiet when we first got there so we got to play some pool, after this about 100 people streamed out from the comedy club and the whole place was packed, great pub.
M. V.
Good location near underground. BBC Recording of Radio 4 Teenage Diaries with Rufus Hound...host... and Jenni Murray. Very enjoyable.
A. M.
Brilliant acts! (Andy Zaltzman and Anuvab Pal) but let down by trying to cram too many people in making it quite an uncomfortable hour, followed by decidedly average pizza (with a pre-bought base).
(Also be aware that if you're not 45 minutes early for their main shows you get fined £3! Being expected to arrive 10-15 minutes early is fine, as there's plenty time to get a drink, but 45 minutes of hanging around is crazy. I hope the company change their policy.)
Acts: 5*
Food and logistics 2*
Weird 45 minutes rule 1*
S. S.
Watching brilliant line up of comedy worth every penny
S. M.
Really like this place, amazing entertainment and the prices of drinks are reasonable. Just make sure you get to the venue early to get your stamp or you have to pay an additional fee
M. “. O. K.
Usually come here for comedy nights. Drink selection isn't that extensive but it's not really the sort of place you'd visit solely to drink. Food isn't bad but service can be slow if it's busy.
J. M.
The comedy night on the Thursday is only £5 for a couple hours. For the price it's unbelievable value as the comedians are actually quite funny. Drinks are inexpensive for London .
A.
You'll probably laugh. You'll definitely chuckle. You may even guffaw. However, if you end up crying, it certainly won't be over the cost of admission. There are few places in the city which offer such consistently high quality humour for a comparably low price tag. Start your night with a trip to Mother Kelly's. Head on down to The Backyard for a dose of funny, and stick around for cheap pints, table tennis, and a hip venue. There are certainly worse places to spend your money and time in the East End.
A. L.
Great comedy and nice venue, not a Londoner so seemed a tad pricey but still well worth it. Would recommend
E. c.
Great value for money, £6 tix in the week and £10 at the weekend for a whole evening of comedy. No frills venue but a fun cheap night with lots of laughs!
n. k.
Great venue. Amazing place to see massive names in comedy for cheap! Also just a nice place to have a drink too!
B.
Love this place one of my favorites, food is so so so on point as well as being at a great price for food and drinks the acts are seriously impressive just need more comfy seats as it's a long night
V. W.
Great venue - went to a recording of My Teenage Diaries with Rufus Hound and Jane Horrocks...cracking experience
S. P.
Not your typical boozer. Although I was there for comedy was glad to see a pool table. Clean toilets and Thursday night comedy there was something special on my visit (early nov)
S. S.
We had a hilarious evening at this place. Comedians come here to try out new material and you get a good mix of new and established comedians.
There is a bar with cheap drinks out front.
J. P.
The bar area seems too bright and felt like a holding pen for the comedy venue at the back, which is perfect. Decent food, but slow service.
I. (.
The acts were brilliant.... the waiting almost 40 mins in between sets was a bit much, left after micky Flanagan &Lee... needs to combine bar and stage...... but the actual entertainment, when it was on,was hilarious....
R. C.
Great small comedy venue - good bar as well. Only issue: it's a victim of its own success, and very busy on nights with gigs on.
R. D.
Been twice, laughed my face off will be going back... artists can be hit and miss, but atmosphere very good.
They serve Blue Moon with a slice of orange
S. G.
Great local comedy club. You're bound to get a variety on any night you go. If you like stand up, I 💯 recommend
E. T.
Good comedy club in a great bar with drinks and food. Stand up comedy has its ups and downs though, and on this occasion I wasn't too impressed. But Defo worth coming back to again!
B. E.
Always a great night out, solid comedy, well priced and good atmosphere too.
L.
Saw a great show for charity, attractive venue, entertaining compare, good toilets and huge bar it was easy to get drink at, what more could you want?
A. S.
Great comedy most nights. Good vibe! S
Ping pong tables and nice beer. Good selection of games too.
N. W.
Saw Joe lycett here for 9 quid and it was honestly one of the best shows and atmosphere I've ever been party to. Not tried the food but the pizza seems good
J.
Not sure why people are complaining about the comedians here... If they're not your taste, go to a different comedy club.
I saw a quite entertaining show, and have no complaints about that. However, given that it's basically a room full of seats/tables, you pay a lot for the experience.
Yes, it's a decent bar, with a reasonable selection of good quality beers, and the urban design utilizing street furniture makes it quite quirky. But, the price of the beers and the food makes me tempted to take off half a star (which I can't do). So I'm giving this place 4* based on the fact that I ended up sitting at quite a wobbly table that made my a little concerned that my pint might spill at some point during the show.
D. H.
Had a great time. Comedians were all very good. The compere was also good but tended to interact constantly with the front row only.
M. S. V.
Saw BBC recording Rufus Hound Teenage Diaries. He is brilliant. The venue is a nice relaxed area with a pub at the front.
M. S.
I played here for the first time recently and was well impressed. Great place to perform, even better tp be in the audience. Wheelchair accessible through out too. Nice.
H. T.
Come for the comedy, not for the bar. Will usually have some great acts performing.
R. M.
Friendly staff, nice venue layout. Lovely pizza reasonable bar prices. Great comedy
S. M.
Great venue, amazing comedy - don’t turn up late though, as there’s a £3 charge if you do.
S. K.
Loooooove Backyard, it’s my favourite comedy club and always so so good. The hosts are always so funny too. Also the cocktails man wow
J. U.
Great club. Long queue for the Gents the only problem.
Z. Y.
Great little bar and great entertainment! Comedians on the night were fantastic! Definitely worth the money and night out!
A. M.
amateur comedy in a good venue.
M. G.
The only regular comedy show I've ever gone to is based here - Comedy Unleashed. Definitely worth a visit!
L.
I went here the other night and it was absolutely lovely. A very chilled atmosphere and the staff were really friendly. Felt cosy. I’m sure I’ll be returning.
B. M. W.
An amazing hidden gem with fantastic comedy for cheap. You often see famous comedians make appearances on stage to test their new material.
P. H.
Great atmosphere with good comedians. Will definitely go again. A very good night out.
D. L.
Really relaxed place. 4 funny comedians. Great value for money. Will go again.
G. R.
Brilliant night out last night, loads of laughs and such great value all round. Just wish I was a local, I would be there every night.👏
Z. P.
An evening of unnecessary detail is amazing. The bar's decent enough; standard fair. Table tennis table and pool table there too.
N. B.
A wonderful visit great acts definitely will be back again and if you ever get the opportunity take it, only drawback is charging for arriving after 15 past!!!
j. w.
loved the place atmosphere was great, staff were friendly couldnt fault it, for someone who suffers anxiety i can honestly say i felt relaxed all evening cant wait to go back
M. M.

D.
Great venue, convenient location. Your quality of the night will totally depend on the acts, obviously.
G. W.
Always a good laugh from quality upcoming comedians. Good quality and reasonably priced food and beers (especially the pitchers).
R. P.
Good venue and great comedy. Bar queues were a bit long though.
N. S.
Great night out, seen some great comedy here! Mediocre food and expensive drinks but nobody's going here for pizza and over priced beer.
H. H.
Good and very cheap comedy evenings, food surprisingly not bad either! Good way to spend a Friday evening
M. M.
Visited for a BBC recording so it was very busy, however the staff were friendly and I was served quickly. Blue Moon on draft is always welcomed too.
M. M.
Great comedy. Good venues for casual pool and foozball table. One of the very few places with a table tennis table

Great acts, a really good vibe and refreshing break from P C agenda drivel which has ruined other clubs.
S. D.
This place is consistently entertaining. Great comics, kind staff and surprisingly good pizzas
B. F.
Organised a friends' birthday drinks there, the staff were really friendly and accommodating. The food was great, and with some more unusual than others (gonna have to try roast pork and apple sauce on pizzas more, its delicious!). Vegetarian options went down a treat too.
With free wifi, and a pool table, as well as comedy shows, I can see this becoming a busy social point in the near future. I suggest get there whilst there is still room on the sofas.
S. N.
Really fun venue, not a great beer selection, didn't try the food
J. C.
