My favourite jazz place in London. Laid back, unpretentious, cosy and welcoming place. Great musicians who interact with audience very well and create good vibe. If you choose to spend the evening here, you will not make a mistake, no matter what your music taste is.

The best place for jazz lovers! They do everything in order to give you the best experience. Even during lockdown, they’ve been able to share with the world their music ♥️ great people, astonishing music, different bands every time. Highly recommended!

Great bar with loads of games and nice vibes. Busy, warm and perfect for those chilly evenings. Ordered beer, curry fries and seitan strips, all very satisfying. Highly recommended.

beautiful simple wonderful speakeasy - book a table a few days in advance and have a negroni upstairs before settling Into a candlelit cradle of cool cats and cocktails

Cool jazz venue in the heart of Broadway Market. I'm not an East London expert and didn't even know this place existed until yesterday! Small, cozy and really well put together with fantastic sound. Absolutely cool! Located downstairs at a very busy bar, the jazz room ironically has got a small bar with limited capacity of producing drinks. Be patient. The bathroom is also not ideal and dirty from the very beginning of the night. But the sound is amazing and that's what matters, right?

I went recently to this absolute hidden jewel of a jazz bar with a group of friends. This was about 3 weeks ago and we are still talking about it. The music was just of unbelievable standard, the cocktails were outstanding and the people were groovy and cool and friendly. We were a group of 50 somethings (++) surrounded by young and less young hip people that couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. Absolutely loved it and can't wait to go back!

Intimate music venue with seating and tables, bar and cosy glow from the retro lighting. Live music on stage, pleasant staff and atmosphere.

Currently my favourite way to spend an evening in London. The space is just about big enough for it to be intimate but have an atmosphere. The cocktails are great (although the bar is a bit slow). They have a resident cat that can sometimes be seen hanging out in the jazz club - what great taste the cat has!

The venue is very nice and the music was pretty good quality. But some 25% of the guests essentially take it as a cool cocktail place with fancy music rather than a concert venue. This means that many people chat,, and you struggle to concentrate on the music. The musicians noticed it too and were annoyed. Not sure a top musician would accept or go back. There is not much the organizers can do, I think there simply is an insufficient jazz culture in London. Organizers do their best, but I doubt I will be back soon

A very special and hidden cocktail bar and live music venue full of live and soul! This rather tiny underground find serves nice cocktails and have a variety of jazz bands on during the week. Some are free or usually pretty affordable, but the quality is superb. It gets very busy so come early to find a table, or try booking.

When you walk out thinking when can I come back then you are onto a winner.
I will try to do justice to this fine Jazz establishment that is willing to experiment with music style and introduce guest musicians while still keeping rhythm. However being a fan of Jazz I must warn you that I am already a bit biased.
Smitty's is an east London Establishment at the south end of London fields and on Broadway market with its many cute shops, restaurants, pubs and bars. The street itself is impressive and worth a visit as it has a bohemian feel. The bar doe not appear to serve food but has a strong list of alcoholic beverages. The cocktails are strong and the mixologist knows what they are doing.
The ground floor is a typical bar but the music is in the basement. Yes, it is a bit shabby but in the candlelight you will never notice. Perfect for a romantic visit if your partner likes the uplifting melodies in swing jazz. The music starts at around 8,30 and it is best if you have book a table and come slightly early to claim it. We had no problem getting our table and also managed to get some excellent food at the local pizzeria.
We were fortunate that there was a guest pianist that played some soft classical melodies along with his former student, and now house band member, who was on the clarinet. Following this the house band pianist took over and it was a joyous hour of swing music. I must admit that my feet were tapping, head was shaking and soul was pounding as the music took over.
The night came to an end at around 10.30pm and I vowed to come back to this excellent establishment very very soon.

Lovely basement bar and venue, small but considered drinks list. The music is the main thing obviously and they get some good acts. Absolutely nails the cool underground jazz club vibes.

I went with some friends last night for the first time after reeatedly hearing good things about it. I was really stunned when I walked into a fully fledged jazz club, complete with Miles Davis playing on the record player while the band were on their break. The resident band was excellent. If you want to hear the best jazz in London this is now the place to go! Great drinks too.

The music was great and drinks were alright ... but night was ruined by rude non-paying guests pressuring to sit at our table. The management should control who’s coming down for free a bit more so they don’t beg for seats from the paying guests and make them feel uncomfortable. Another couple already had their table and they were too polite to ask them to leave. I won’t be coming back as it isn’t an experience I want to repeat

Lovely little jazzy spot in the northeast. There is not a large selection of beer, but there is quality over quantity.
Cocktails are good and at an understandable price.
There is no food to buy in the place, but you can bring food from outside (and it is ok!!)
Franco Manca is across the street so you can have great pizza, great drinks, great jazz in a fantastic environment and there is no entry fee! Fantastic venue.

One of the best Jazz bars I've been to. Great cocktails and a fantastic house band. The place is a bit small so don't forget to book a table.
A. V.
A bit confused about this place. They have jazz downstairs, and they charge for entrance (fair enough), but there's no control over 1. How many people get in (so much for safety) and 2. Letting the band play. I can't say I heard more than 3 notes over the noise of the crowd who couldn't care less.
M. K.
Oh my god, just saw this amazing band called Preston Glasgow Lowe and honestly it was just spectacular!! Lovely intimate setting, amazing drinks, and the music was just second to none! Defo want to come back and see these guys play here again!

If you like jazz and bourbon this place is just about as good as it gets in London, minus the overpriced pomp of older established places. The music is curated flawlessly, no fuss intimate layout makes you feel like you're on stage with the band. Reminds me of St Nick's Pub in New York back in the day. This is the real deal.

My new favourite bar in London. I’ve had two brilliant Saturday nights here listening to the house band. An amazingly talented group ... and loved the cocktail menu too
S. N.
Good place and price with good jazz live music. It still exists in London !!!

Best Jazz bar I've ever been to, and that's saying something. Went on a Friday night and will recommend to everyone. Also worth buying a bottle of fizz for the table if celebrating.

One of my favorite places in London. The lineup of artists is world-class, and the cocktails are awfully good, too. A great place for a date or just to take in some jazz solo.
J. C.
Really good venue, really good drinks and service, really good house jazz. Got a bit hot and the toilets could use some improvement and definitely need to book in advance but really great every time.

Updated from a year ago - we went back last night to see Giacomo Smith and crew. The music was incredible, as were the cocktail team, but I would agree with an earlier reviewer that around a quarter of the patrons see the venue as a cool place to have rowdy chats, rather than coming for the music. This clearly upsets some of the musicians and spoils the atmosphere. Perhaps the venue could take some practices from Ronnie Scotts? For example, on the tables there are little plaques that ask guests to keep talking to minimum out of respect for the musicians. This is also mentioned on the website when booking etc. The venue was turning people away all evening, so clearly no need for the shouty people...

Haven't even been yet, but I love it already.
[Edit] since posting this last year, i been to this bar atleast once to max 4-5 times a month. It is absolutely one of the best jazz bars in London.
C. H.
Really cool venue, the bar has a lively environment. Downstairs the jazz bar is pretty 30s style which is super cool and the bands are very good as well.
E. F.
This place is special. Stripped back, raw in your basement kinda jazz.
I saw The Three Will's playing under the name Will Barry on Saturday night, and it was mind blowingly good.
Three equally, incredibly talented musicians - who worked together so perfectly. It was interesting to see their egos come into play between them at times... Either way though, these guys were on fyreee 🔥🔥
M. S.
Best jazz bar in London. World class musicians in an intimate setting. Say hello to Sophie at the bar and remember to not chit-chat while the musicians play!
J. P. T.
A great find. Located underneath Off Broadway, this compact bar will have you dancing in your espadrilles to jazz, and whispering in dark corners with your friends and lovers. Get down there.

Hidden under a pub is this small, cosy, supercool jazz bar - with great cocktails! It's always busy though so best to book in advance.
