Nice, cozy and friendly place, with many options of craft beers (bottles). They serve pizza slices. There are tables outside, so it's great on a sunny day. I just wish it had more options on draft beers, but the ones they have are great.
D.
Nice pub with a friendly bunch of people with a performance room where lots of great music are played.
The problem is that you always have to stand if you want to enjoy the performance, and if you want a drink or just a seat, you have to go back to the bar area.
Overall it's still a very good place to go!
D. C.
Great pub, those beers slipped down a treat. Special night seeing The Real People. Pop next door and get a burger/chips before coming here. You won't be disappointed.
D. W.
Went to see The Chap play. Great live band. The venue is small so good for a more 'intimate' experience. Main bar is cosy. Small selection of draft beers - OK. several bottled ales which appeared popular. I'd definitely go again.
K. B.
Brilliant small music venue. One of the very few left in London. If this manages to survive - which it should - actual icons could be born here.
All the makings of a future historic venue.
The management seem to be focusing on what sells this place. Live music.
I hope it works.
Applaud and support this place imo.
Good beer selection too!

I love this venue. so cozy. doorman was lovely. Barman was really lovely and helpful and welcoming. I was on my own whilst waiting for my pal and he made me feel less awkward. other barman really nice too. Great music on the system. Gig was great. Matt Vasquez always hits the mark with his contagious joy. Everyone in there was cool AF and it felt like i was amongst friends. Lighting was nice too for an old bird like me. Well done The Islington. I'll be back
K. G.
Great venue. London prices. Didn't have a working card reader at the time. Parking impossible, park further out and tube in!
Sound was great, very good engineer. Lovely seating and atmosphere. Focused and energetic staff!
Didn't take any photos was too busy enjoying the band :)
M. W.
Reasonable but small drinks selection, often a bit of a wait at the bar but never too bad.
Small-medium sized gig venue with reasonably decent sound system, however some of the house sound technicians either don't know or don't care what they are doing, so live sound varies from great to terrible. If you're a band looking for venues I'd avoid this one if you can help it.
S. H.
I really wanted to enjoy last night...the bar itself is lovely I would sit down and relax before the gig the bartender was great, it was a cash bar that night but these things happen and it wasn't a problem the problem was the price of the drink which for the pint I had seemed on the excessive side. The gig I attended would have been great if I could actually hear the artists who err drowned out over their own music and it kind of ruined the experience

Used this venue for a sold out live music event I was putting on in June 2018. Fantastic ambience and set up/layout. Nicely appointed venue. Staff were extremely friendly, helpful and very accommodating to our specific needs. Sound man was brilliant and totally on the ball. Great performance area. 5 well deserved stars from me.
N. E.
Great live music venue for up and coming bands. Good sound. Great staff
B. O.
LOVED this little venue, really small and intimate. We went to see a band and the band were great and the venue was pretty sweet. Although I wish there had been seating. It loses a star because I emailed to ask if a seat would be possible but they did not respond to my email. Still liked this venue though :)
P. G.
Extremely good selection of beer bottles, the staff is nice and the pub even if small is comfortable. During big heat they are able to open the pub to the street which offers a feeling of opening and wonder.
I don't understand their current google rating (2.5 at this time) as it is a really nice pub. If you look at the comments it is related to a venue that offended some people but trust me the pub itself is fine.
D. M.
Went in to meet up with old friends. Great selection of craft beer. They do live music as well but can't hear anything from the bar seating so that was a plus! Will come back again definitely for the dude bar tender with long blonde hair rad and sick cocktails, definitely recommend the espresso martini!
S. E.
Not to be confused with The Islington Townhouse around the corner, this is a friendly pub with reasonably priced drinks and a selection of cocktails. Although we visited in January, it looked to have a pleasant outside terrace to the rear. The pub also boasts a decent venue for gigs, showcases and other events, which is separated from the bar with a thick, impressively soundproof door. This venue seems to provide the establishment's main focus. It's not really a family pub, unless your progeny are over 18.
M. D.
Very nice small venue. Friendly staff and a decent selection of beers make this a decent Friday night starter, the live music tops off the evening nicely.
Decent sized and well kitted out music venue section makes for a great little gig spot.
S. E.
Friendly staff and a wonderfully laid back pub. It was very refreshing to hear some great acoustic live music and not have to queue for ages at the bar! Really nice atmosphere and cool open seating area was perfect after a hot summers day! Will definately go back next time I'm in town.
E. W. R.
Unusually for a music venue it's pretty clean and tidy and they trust you to drink out of actual glasses! A pint of Amstell was £4.95 which is about what I'd expect in Islington or Camden. Not much cheaper in my local. Main bar is quite small and decorated with dozens of photos mainly of what you might call 'alternative' musicians. The function room can squeeze in around 100 standing or 50 sitting. The two staff members I dealt with were polite and friendly throughout.
J. S.
Seems like a nice pub. We were there for a music gig. The room for gigs is really intimate - great to be so close to the act performing. However we were there in June and it was unbearably hot! The fans were not helping at all and there was a loud air conditioning unit that ruined the support acts set.
M. C.
Great little music venue... vastly overpriced drinks! Normally you pay to get in or pay more for drinks. Unfortunately here you do both. Good sound set up and intimate gig.
J. M.
One of the finest and friendliest bars I have been in since I moved to London 2 years ago.Staff extremely kind and helpful. Lost my phone with the battery dead and the manger personally took charge to help me find my iphone, eventually found in the side of the couch, bar staff very friendly taking time to explain the array of different draft beers and cocktails with a smile(Estrella on draft👌🏻) my friends and I enjoyed great bands from acoustic to indie rock played in a venue adjacent to the bar.
Will definitely be returning in the future and would highly recommend.

Came in over the weekend for a Booka Brass Band show. Tickets are cheap, less than a tenner. The bar is free to enter. Ticketing was painless - just told the door guy our names and checked off the list, and walked right in. There's a big bar right at the entrance and you walk past that to get into the venue area. First thing you'll notice is that the venue is tiny. Saying that there is really no bad place to be and you get an up close view of the stage. It can get a little warm though! Amazing selection of craft beers is a nice touch. All in all a small, intimate venue and i would pop in for a drink on the terrace in summer regardless who is playing.
A. P.
living locally I decided to finally pop in to this bar to see what all the fuss was about. The bar is split into two parts as you walk in, one for concerts and the other a regular bar. We came early and it was relatively easy going however it got too busy later on so we hopped over to a quieter bar across the street. A fun hang if you want to party.
S. K.
Went to see my girls band play their first live gig last week. Was really cool they had a bunch of other up and coming 'unknown' local bands on the same bill and the entry fee covered the whole night. Will be back!
S. D.
I have been to the venue last time the Mohe band played there. It was a beautiful experience. The songs were very melodious. The lead singer was just awesome. Hope to listen again...
A. C.
Went to the Islington for the first time on Wednesday 20th of August 2014 for a (free!) gig by the Canadian band The Arkells; this was their only UK tour date to my knowledge.
My friends and I travelled an hour or so on trains to get to the venue having never been there before.
The building's floor-to-ceiling windows were fully opened giving it the air of a European cafe; upon arriving the shift-manager immediately began moving chairs & tables around to make sure the 4 of us could be accommodated comfortably.
A wide selection of American craft beers, and even some Icelandic beer, is available in addition to higher-end more regular choices of lager/ale/cider & wine, and an attractive back shelf of liquors.
The decoration was hip without being too try-hard/hipster, clean & fresh and (in my opinion) a cracking background alternative music selection (including The Cure & The Cars to the best of my recollection)
As for the gig itself, it was busy but not crowded; it was easy enough to move through the crowd and get to & from the bathroom/bar.
The stage was brightly decorated and looked very professional (like the backdrop to a small TV performance) but the real standout quality was the acoustics - watching a quickly recorded iPhone video, it sounds more or less perfect. Very little distortion, ideal volume - I was so impressed I tipped the guys working the sound desk £10 to get themselves a couple of pints!
Fantastic energy at the gig, felt like being back at small intimate gigs at The Wedgewood rooms back in the 90s :)
The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for a quiet drink or a big night out, and hope to return sooner rather than later.
B. W.
Cosy little music venue with friendly staff and a good range of beer.
R. K.
The selection of beers on tap is miserable—there’s nothing better than Amstel. Great venue otherwise, with tables in the window, benches overlooking a little park, and gigs lined up all year.
G. V.
Great gig for re-teu played here. Staff were super friendly and the venue itself was great for the gig held there. However drinks are little costly but apart from that it was all good.
B.
Seeing a band here is the ultimate intimate. Super little venue. Sound is great and staff are sound. Travelled from Ireland to see The Riptide Movement and would definitely return.
J. P.
I like this as a venue and the bar decor is cosy. I wouldn't return for just a drink because the prices are outrageously expensive. £11.45 for a white wine and soda!
B. P.
Fantastic live music venue!!!! We held an after party here a week ago and Terry and his team couldn't have been more accommodating and professional. Highly recommend!!!!!
A. S.
Went back for a second visit and this place is spot on. Extremely warm, charming but sleek/cool too. Drinks were excellent. Service was very quick. The people behind this have a first class aesthetic. Will definitely be coming back here for a long time to come. Excellent addition to Islington.
T. M.
Great punk venue. Beers a little bit pricy, however only one tap was running at the time. Don't get confused with the Islington town house, whoops.
J. K.
This is a great little pub, great for an afternoon pint or an evening out. The atmosphere isn't a party vibe but great for conversation. Try to get a seat upstairs where the atmosphere is lovely.
D. D.
I've grown up in North London since I was 4 and I've never been compelled to review a pub before. But this is a top pub. Great live music. Great drinks. Amazing. Service. Blah blah blah come here.
K.
Came here to see Steve Hofstetter. The venue is OK, i appreciate what they're trying to do. There are a LOT for beers here to choose from. too bad if you don't drink tho. the selection doesn't even extend to non-alcoholic beers. very few snacks. so come if you love beer. otherwise, maybe pass?
T. D.
Visited for All or Nothing experience. Great show.
Pub is ok. Small with separate stage area. Only moan was price of drinks. More like West End venue than a pub.
C. S.
Nice, clean pub with good atmosphere but very limited range of draught (Amstel, London pale and London Pride). It is also firmly at the higher end of central London pricing for all drinks
£4.50-£5.50 a pint
£5.50 single + mixer
£7.50 glass of wine
S. H.
Fab place. Went to hear some live music. Had a great time. Staff were on it and friendly, the vibe was great and the pub is cosy. Will return for sure.
T. B.
Small, unassuming, yet has some great live music. A real find in the area.
Also nice on a summers day when they open up the front.
During the day is great for a coffee.
J. P.
One of my favourite small London venues, great bands, great sound, and well located.
A. D.
Nice venue,It was the last date for Red Light Skyscraper UK tour. Ticket at the Door. The ask the manager and producer of the band (me) to pay the ticket to get in.😂😂
A. R.
The place is well decorated, they do live music which is a really good point but drinks are SO expensive, £6.5 the cheapest pint.
G. B.
1 bar £16 for 2 & 1 1/2pt larger. Good sound. 2 quality bands Los Pepes & The Bell Stars
s. w.
Bit of a mixed bag really. Nice gig room. Good staff. Limited beer selection none of which is good, all of which is seriously overpriced.
R. K.
This place is amazing. Attractive interior and live music almost every night is very catching. Customer service is great and friendly.
I am happy to come back.
K. Y. S.
You can't totally see that there's a gig going on inside. For me I guess that's not really encouraging for people to come in. A Band played with like 3 people watching no matter how good they were.
E. C.
Great music venue. Kind staff. Good sound. Cozy jazzy atmosphere
B. H.
Good music venue and pub. Good selection of beers, average service but usually has good local music acts on.
T. C.
Nice pub come music venue, decent service at the bar, good space for bands and a comfier area for relaxing on the far side.
A. P.
Passed in to this bar on the offchance I would hear some decent music and to my delight ended up staying all night and saw a great band from Canada called East Pointers. Genuinely had a blast
F. B.
Nice gig venue. Drinks are overly expensive though and not much cask or keg options.
L. O.
Wonderful, intimate venue to listen to live music. Lovely in the bar area too.
M. B.
Don't buy shots here. I was charged a STAGGERING £7.50 per tequila shot. Extortionate! Nice venue apart from that.
S. F.
The Islington is a great small gig venue I played here with my band Flipswitch and we had a fantastic time, the atmosphere is on point and feels thay a propper punk venue, too many places like this are being closed down and its a real shame, the range of events they put on is amazing and the choice of alcohol is equally so, you can find the perfect drink and the perfect entertainment here.
H. G.
Friendly enough staff. Shame seats were not immediately ready for Raphael Callaghan's gig. Beer prices typical central London.
M. C.
I found the staff was a bit indifferent to everything, but they had a decent range of beers and the decor was really great. I was there in the afternoon, but I imagine it really works in the evening
F. R.
Start and door times of concerts could be better advertised, they often appear to start at 630pm which is not the case
L. H.
laid back bar, decor is cool without being too try-hard and a great background alternative music playlist. Would return sooner than later.
j. s.
Great venue with a good selection of beers as well as a choice of different cocktails on offer.
J. D.
Good small gig venue, good sound, good beer, a bit on the expensive side all the same
M. W.

M. D.
Great pub especially on a nice day. Very chilled and a hidden stage out the back for grunge bands
F. B.
Live bands playing every weekend. Pretty rough and ready venue. Nice down to Earth atmosphere.
J. R.
Sound at the love gig could have been better, bar staff friendly, selection OK...bar is expensive though compared to others in area.

Great small bar until they put the football on. Lovely in summer that the French doors can completely open.
G. M.
Live music friendly staff and a nice selection of beers & comfy vintage sofas - what's not to like?
R. W.

P. S.
Great little pub, with new live bands some Sundays
r. p.
Nice pub, it's a shame they charge £5 for gigs where the bands are new and not much audience.
M. L.
Great music, though can be mixed. Good separation of bar and live music areas. Good live sound.
