Dim sum type of food concept, we went there to celebrate a riuniom among friends and it was the ideal solution as it also offered a burlesque show while we were having dinner. The focus is not the food but is the overall experience food Is ok but not wow.
V. K.
Highly recommended! delicious cocktails , dimsum is outstanding and their shows just incredible.

Had an absolutely lovely birthday dinner at Courtesan. Highly recommend the dim sums, especially the delicious mushroom puffs and mushroom dumplings as well as the warm sesame balls for dessert.
On a Sunday it was cosy and quiet, perfect to hear each other and chat - will be returning for the show for sure next time.

What an experience!! Went to courtesan to celebrate a friend's birthday and wow! The show was INCREDIBLE, so lively and authentic. Houseofmarijames was 10/10, oozed talent. Very pricy drinks but deffo worth it for a special evening.

We went for a the dinner a show on Friday night. We had a lovely evening! The drinks were delicious the dim sums were nice and the show was very fun. The venue itself is what is what is best, very cosy, intimate and beautiful decoration. My overall experience was great.
However some bits can be improved. The ordering system does not work.. It would just be nice to have someone come and take your order at the table like the old days.. The show costs £20 per head and is not included as part of the dinner. I am not sure that was very clear to me when I made the booking. The show is a bit short I thought.. I have been to other bigger cabaret in London where you pay £60 food and show included and the show is a lot longer with more acts.
So overall I though it was pricey for what we got.

Really cool space away from the hip central Brixton village bit. Opium den vibes with the low lighting and some of the decor.
Food wise, most of the menu is excellent. Been a few times and the char sui buns are always top notch. Had the ribs before which were nice and spicy. The steamed dumplings are very good: prawn and wasabi, pumpkin buns, pork and prawn dumpling and softshell crab all top notch.
The jerk chicken rice I'm not too sure about unfortunately... But thr rest of the menu makes up for that.
Great cocktails, decent beers, friendly staff. Can get busy so book ahead!

Hidden Gem, the outside doesnt loom all that nice that when you enter it's a different place , very cultured decor and in the evening they bring out the tea light so it sets a different tone to the place -like a date night. Dim sum was lovely enjoyed myself will definitely come back again. I took a star off because I didn't like the passion fruit drink.

Stumbled across this little eatery on a night they were doing burlesque, and thought it was such a gorgeous find! Loved the food too.
J. R.
Great modern asian food. Decent selection of vegan alternatives. Not very well marked out in their app to order unfortunately.
Flawlessly helpful staff. Clean unisex bathroom. Very inclusive and problem solving mindset.
I am a wine guy but would definitely recommend getting the cocktails. Not because the wines are poor but because of the level of perfection in the cocktails.
My objections: they proudly proclaims they don't have MSG and don't seem to know that is based in racism. The timing on delivering food to the table was surprising. 47 minutes from the first main course to the last and this was after three different people asked us what we had and if we needed more. The tap water was warmer than room temperature and we had to ask to get it refilled each time we run dry and there was no water alternative in the app.
Still. I will not just go again, I will visit as much as possible and it will be a go to place to bring friends visiting London. A true gem

Brilliant spot for cocktails, food and entertainment. The staff are friendly and food is super tasty.
R. S.
Magnificent food combined with a quite brilliant selection of cocktails. Dim sum is amongst the best in London, full of flavour, well done and a genuinely authentic take.
The cocktails generally can service most tastes and are superbly curated. Decor is beautifully done too, tasteful within the theme and clearly done with attention to detail like most of the restaurant. Recommended.
R. B.
Creative cocktails, delicious dim sum, superb service. Enjoyed ourselves immensely, will be back!
R. G.
The table we had booked wasn’t ready so we sat in the bar area, the tables were very close together. We probably would have stayed for the show had we had the table we had originally booked. Overall it was pleasant, but probably won’t go back again.

Wonderful place. Food is delicious and the cocktails are great. Burlesque evening shows add some spice. Highly recommended if you are looking for a fantastic night our in Brixton. Atmosphere is chilled staff are friendly with a very cool vibe. Loved it
Y. W.
Best ever pre-lockdown dinning experience. Team are all so well dressed and decor are nice. Very interesting cocktail menu and tasty food (Chinese and Japanese fusion) would definitely visit again.
K. C.
Delicious, beautiful, dim sum in an elegant space. We liked the prawn wasabi dumplings, the soft shell crab, and the chicken buns. Small but perfectly formed menu. The restaurant has a strong feminine theme, and has a female chef and cocktail waitress. Good for a date.
V. H.
The dim sum options at Courtesan rival the ones in Chinatown! Authentic and fresh har gau, shumai, cheung fun (along with many others) and I also loved the wagyu beef bao! Great, friendly and attentive service!
D. D.
A real gem in brixton and the best dim sum I’ve tasted so far in London! Absolutely creative so will definitely come back

A lovely place to eat and great cocktails to try. Staff are lovely and knowledgeable about their menu.

A lovely secret little restaurant situated down a back street in brixton. From the outside, it can appear a little questionable but when you enter it has an amazing rustic ambience. Staff are very efficient and welcoming and the food is served within a good time. The menu is nice and the quality of food good also. Mid way through our meal we were entertained with a burlesque dancer which was a nice surprise. Standard prices. Great evening with friends.

Fantastic food. I love experiencing authentic fare. I was honoured to eat here. I couldn't have been happier with the flavours and around taste and feel of the dishes. The scallop dumpling, mixed crunchy
I did ask for a nice table, NOT next to swinging doors or close to the loo - and that's exactly where we were sat. (I didn't complain - I'm sure they wouldn't have done so if they had read my reservation req. - but heyho).
One of our orders was forgotten but we got complimentary drinks while we waited and the issue was dealt with quite quickly.
The staff, once you get their attention, are attentive and try to be helpful, although when busy its obviously a strain in the team.
I love that it's female driven in the kitchen as well as the booze in the bar. All in all I would definitely come back here. I would keep going back for the vibe and the food and, dare I say it, the staff.
A. D.
I'm a big fan of Courtesan. The cocktails are good and the food is tasty, though it can quickly add up to a significant bill. The venue itself feels like it was pulled together hastily and could benefit from a snall renovation, but it doesn't detract from the experience (not sure I'd enjoy being on the table by the toilets though).
The real stand out from my perspective is the very attentive bartender who's frequently there. She mixes a great martini and is happy to customise cocktails to your taste.
M. S.
The atmosphere is great... And there is a very good selection of dim sum, we tried 5 types and they were all delicious! The price and the service is very good! Also it was a Friday night so we saw the burlesque show, which is definitely a plus!!
G. W.
Cosy and luxurious feel to this restaurant. I have eaten a number times here, and found nice service, relaxed and attentive. The food is reasonable priced & delicious. The cocktails are sophisticated.
I have stopped in and enjoyed a quite brew of tea and sorted out my email. On another occasion I've stopped and had few beers with friends. I can recommend it for those who like nice food or would like to treat their better half to a romantic dinner. Enjoy.
F. D.
Amazing! Helpful staff, nice vibe and the food blew me away. From the chives to the salmon to the pork. Even their prawn crackers are bomb 💣their iced tea is amazing for those of us who can't drink. Blood red is my fav. I came with my family to surprise my aunty and even the picky kids ate well. The staff know the menu and will guide you to the right meal choices. 👌💯

Perfect ambience for a date or an adult get together. Imagine a dark candle-lit Chinese boudoir. Dumplings were exceptional, and the variety is staggering. I'd recommend ordering those and not bothering with rice or noodles, just so you can try them all!
Music was excellent. There was a live DJ the evening but she wasn't imposing, and the level of music wasn't too loud to talk over.
J.
Service is amazing. Honest genuine staff. Great vegetarian options if you like mushrooms or tofu. Hand made dim sum. Very tasty. Good beer too. Reasonably priced. A cheeky little surprise... look out italian chinese fusion dishes... very inventive. Can highly recommend.

I've worked in and around Chinatown, had lots of meals there... But this is so much better than anything I've had there! The food is off the scale in terms of yumminess - there's something for everyone. I'd particularly recommend the "Granny Parcels", the Chicken buns and the Curious Pumpkin Buns (I don't even like veggie stuff... But this is amazing!). Finished with some of their green tea and the Cherished Dark Chocolate cake - I'd happily eat here regularly
M. C.
Great food, service and decor. The burlesque dance later in the evening was a delightful surprise! Apparently they have different dancers every night. A genuinely innovative place, fusing creativity in food and art.
M. E.
I had always walked past Courtesan, assuming it was another tacky Chinese restaurant. We ventured in on a whim one night and were pleasantly surprised. The buzzy cocktail bar and cosy ambiance makes the place feel like a kind of Cantonese speakeasy, if such a thing exists. Our expectations were raised.
We ordered two cocktails which were brought to us by friendly, brisk servers and tasted great. Then the food arrived. I think they must have run out of batter because the soft shell crab was covered in something akin to wallpaper paste. The dumplings tasted like they had been recently removed from the freezer and nuked in the microwave - solid lumps of crabby dough that congealed on the roof of my mouth. Pork buns somewhat saved the day but then you cannot really go wrong with a pork bun.
From the outside I had expected Courtesan to be a tacky Chinese restaurant with excellent food. It was in fact, the polar opposite.
M. K.
Burlesque was so much fun and the host amazing. Great food too. Highly recommended and have been waiting for reopening hoping that they will.
V. B.
Spent a lovely Halloween evening here and had lots of fun. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and burlesque dancing. Spent hours chatting to the owner and staff. Everyone pours their heart into this place. Great to see! Will be back.
J. h.
fun place - nice range of dimsum although some overpriced for what they are. Burlesque is a bit amature considering you get £5 pp added to you bill if you are still at your table for it.
Wine descriptions are stupid - don't describe the wine but random poetry. doesn't help you to pick a bottle!
J. D.
This place is what living in London is all about. Discovering somewhere so unique, innovative and fun, whilst eating great food, is what this city is all about. Cocktails are great, food absolutely lovely and the service very friendly. Loved my night out here!
L. “. B.
Truly special. Excellent dim sum, creative cocktails and lovely entertainment.
We went to the Halloween event and it was great. Intimate and comfortable, the hosts and performers were relaxed and willing to chat.
G. Z.
Best dim sum I ever tasted in the Uk. It is the real deal!
Also, I have to mention the cocktails which are subtle, delicate, and tasty. They seem perfect to me as you can taste the flavours, but not the alcohol. That makes it dangerous as I could drink many of them...
Not to forget the decor, the music and the stories that lies behind them and every dishes or drink.
A perfect venue that deserve to be on your best restaurants list!!!
A. C.
My brother and I went here last week, really late in the evening so that is the first plus - they are open still serving food until really late.
We ordered marinated spare ribs, steamed pork and prawn dumplings, the jerk chicken rice, beef noodles and some vegetable buns. It was all really good - light but filling, just what you want dim sum to be. The rice was particularly good even if it is slightly untraditional for Japanese dim sum - but we are in Brixton, so hardly unexpected to find jerk chicken on the menu!
The venue is great, really atmospheric with classic, elegant furniture and fantastic artwork.
The service was polite and efficient. Definitely a recommended restaurant.
J. A.
Probably my favourite food in london, I’m a vegetarian and the tastes and flavours are incredible. Way too unknown for its own good, I’m surprised it’s not heaving! Drinks are great too, definitely recommend!
L. C.
A quirky but cool restaurant only 5 mins max from Brixton station. The food here was incredible, this was my first experience of a proper Chinese restaurant rather than just a Friday takeaway and it was a great one. The bao was to die for and there was so much variety on the menu it was a fun experience choosing different things in a similar way you would tapas. Cocktails were also very nice.
J. T.
I can't rate this place highly enough. They have a great selection of dim sum (even for my veggie girlfriend) and some really nice cocktails. The decor and music are spot on as are the staff - informative, helpful but not overbearing.
J. O.
I'd heard about Courtesan and finally decided to give it a go, the food, service and cocktails were excellent, so much so IV booked it for my birthday as I want to experience the burlesque show on the weekend. Watch this space. Brixtons hidden secret 10/10
D. D.
It was a nice venue spilt into 2 sections; the immediate area is smaller, more intimate and is nicely decorated. The next section can cater for larger groups or a private event. The dim sum was nice, tasty and freshly made although the various portions came out at different times, one diner in the group received all 3 of her dim sum orders before some had received their first one. There is a unisex toilet so be prepared for this.
D. Y.
Great vibe an friendly helpful staff but was rather underwhelmed by the food and at £5.5 to £9 for a portion of dim sum I was expecting a little more, sauces like hoisin an oyster clearly straight from the bottle just aren't that nice. With so much quality choice now in the area I'd need a v good reason to visit again.
C. R.
food top quality and service was fast and funny. great people and the food was special. value for money. the wagyu & ribeye sliders were something special. also the mushroom dim sum with chilli oil was simple but delicious. as Arne said "i'll be back".
S. K.
Really pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dim sum! I haven't been to the burlesque but the dim sums were a bit pricey for me but proper.
S. T.
Saw a Burlesque performance while every joking fabulous food. Apparently there will be a performance of this type every Saturday abortion 8 pm. Grats stylish luxurious restaurant. Certainly intend to be there every Saturday I can.
Every last Sunday of the month they hold an acoustic open evening.......... I'll be there with me classical guitar.

I visited Courtesan with a friend in March 2016. We ordered some cocktails which were DELICIOUS and then a selection of dim sum to share.
I've eaten a fair bit of dim sum in China Town and feel like in my hunt for delicious parcels of deliciousness, I have tried and tested a number of sub par dumplings - unfortunately, Courtesan falls into that category of sub par dumpling. So many of them were flaky pastry fried or baked. There were fillings that were overly salty and not distinctively flavoured. Some of the dumplings were tasty but I would not mistake these for dim sum. If you're looking for authentic dim sim, keep looking - you will not find them here.
C. T.
It was my first visit. Thank you Jola for the help choosing. Thoroughly enjoyed my lunch. I will be back for dinner soon x
J. N.
Mmmmmmmm! Best Dim Sum in South London.
Love tge decor reminisant of an opium den. The music is hugely eclectic- you go from Gershan to Disney to opera and old chinese following each other. Their chocolate cake and coffee ice cream and oh the mango truffels!!!!
Cocktails, mocktails....Oh I love this place!!!
Oh the service is good too.
P. R.
This is a very special place. Doesn't try too hard. Staff and food is amazing. The cocktails are pretty different. Loved it here.
M. H.
Delectable cuisine, graciously served in a relaxed manner. The interior decor makes for a perfect backdrop and the recorded music soundtracked a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Numerous vegetarian dishes made our selection a delight.
M. K.
Came here last-minute a couple of week's ago and had a fantastic time. The food is tasty and the burlesque show was brilliant! Highly recommend!
B. R.
Adore the food here!! The most delicious dim sum, brilliant cocktails AND live Burlesque every weekend...what more could you want?
A. T.
Best dim sum place I have been too in London - I stupidly filled up on spring rolls and frogs legs (which were okay) which meant I couldn't eat as much of the amazing dim sum. Highly recommend
S. B.
I really liked this place. Its quite relaxed the food was very tasty the prices were good and the staff were lovely. I really liked the cocktails. I will go back
A. K.
Great cocktails, delicious dim sum, helpful staff, and décor in the Late Opium Den style. What's not to love?

E. C.
Incredibly yummy dumplings and lovely staff (who'll be happy to help you with menu!) Great if you're vegan too - they even have a vegan desert!
S. H.
The food isn't necessarily bad but I think it's a bit overpriced really. We left feeling as if we'd paid too much for what we got.
