Reviews of Toulouse Lautrec
A. C.
Hands down, one of the best restaurant/jazz club of my life. Amazing food in the restaurant and amazing acoustics in the jazz club. Do not get discouraged about the small looking location. It is anything but small! 10/10 will visit again!
C. P.
The food is very good. The sea bass was perfect. Juicy and worked exceptionally with veg and sauce. Salad with goats cheese was great as well.
They have a jazz venue upstairs. Not everyone is a fan of jazz but I am so it was great.
J. T.
A fabulous restaurant sitting in an odd location serving up quality French cuisine for a reasonable price. They have live music too if you book a table on the upper floor, but be warned they do charge you for an extra £5 per person. Service was great. My French friend was impressed (it takes a lot to impress him)
J. i.
Toulouse Lautrec was amazing. Certainly one of my favourite place. We had snails Served in their shells with Homemade Garlic Butter, Lamb shoulder,Basket of Sourdough Bread & French Salted Butter. Lastly was a special which was duck breast I think, but it was lovely. A French Lady called Rose attended to us, and the service offered was impeccable. And to round off the night, we entreated ourself to some jazz music upstairs while sipping some merlot gran reserva and crowning it up with Crème Brûlée dessert. The ambience was great.
C. S.
The vibes are immaculate.
We want for the burlesque night and so amazing!!! The ladies are gorgeous and all the staff genuinely wanted to be there and were lovely and happy
Cheese board was good but the Brie was about to be over ripe, lots of bread and fancy butter
Drinks reasonably priced too!
j. k.
Just had an excellent night in the piano bar. Such a great, cosy atmosphere with excellent food and exceptional service. Big thank you to Pete Saunders for keeping us marvellously entertained. All in all, highly recommended. Looking forward to trying the Jazz bar next time.
B. G.
I keep coming back here!
I love this place. The food is great and really well presented, the staff are always so friendly and nice, they always find space to fit us in when we decide to go there on the chance. And obviously the live music brings in the best atmosphere.
J. C.
What a lovely place! Rustic french deco and fin-de-siecle paintings from Montmartre, Paris…absolutely did not feel like I was in Elephant and Castle! Also the resident pianist Hugo Jennings was amazing on keys. What a night I had, will definitely be back! More people need to know about this place
L. J.
Intimate romantic dinner on 1st floor piano bar. Jazz singing was lovely! Will definitely visit again and look to see a show. I can highly recommend the creme brulee.
J. S.
Cool jazz club and restaurant with friendly, helpful staff. Good range of French classics on the menu and a good drinks list. Well worth a visit and great when there is love music.
C. D.
Pre theatre menu outstanding value for money. Food fresh & tasty. Great night of Jazz, fab prosecco & fantastic service. Loved our evening watching the Vince Dunn Orchestra. Highly recommended.
N. S.
We had a great night with excellent food and a great atmosphere in the piano bar. Jo Harrop sang and Alex was on the piano. The staff were friendly and the service was spot on.
A. L.
Very nice jazz venue on the top floor of a French restaurant. I liked the warm atmosphere and the quality of music, it really sets you in another dimension for a couple of hours.
S. V.
My partner and I visited yesterday afternoon (13/02/2022) and we really can't speak highly enough about our experience. All three courses were excellent, and the Crème Brûlée, so often a maker or breaker for my partner, was perfect, as was the beautifully cooked sirloin steak I devoured. We were looked after very well by Monica and we're both genuinely looking forward to returning. Easy, no-hesitation, 5 stars.
G. M.
Unassuming from the outside, and wonderful within.
Went for Sunday brunch so didn't get to experience the piano or jazz (though I hear they are great) - but the service and food were excellent.
We were possibly the first table that day so we're treated to the private dining area and our waiter was very attentive without being overbearing.
We had the Mont D'Or to start and were asked if we would like more grilled bread when it was getting low, which is nice attention to detail.
Definitely somewhere I will be coming back to!
J. C.
An absolute gem! I have been there twice. The performances on the piano lounge and jazz space (on 2nd and 3rd floor) have been very enjoyable and entertaining.. The food, very good. My only complain is, the service can be a bit slow.. Perhaps it's just logistics as the bar and kitchen are located on different floors?
J.
A great French restaurant which might get overlooked, but shouldn't. Food is very tasty, the baked cheese starter is especially good.
The service is friendly and attentive.
Recommend it and would go again
K. A.
Food was incredible. I had the French onion soup to start followed by the duck a l'oranage and then the chocolate fondant. My husband had the small charcuterie board, the cassoulet and the tarte aux fine pomme.
Everything was absolutely amazing, from the food to the staff to the live band.
E. D.
A fantastic little place. We ate upstairs in the small but perfectly formed Piano Room and enjoyed a Christmassy jazzy duo whilst we ate our delicious French light bites. We were served by the owner who was very friendly and informative on the history of Toulouse Lautrec. Highly recommended.
S. P.
Very cosy and intimate live music venue on the first floor. The music was great, the staff were friendly, and the food was delicious! Would definitely go again - 100% recommended
A. L.
A surprisingly pleasant place in the heart of Elephant and Council punching well above its weight. Good venue, good food, good music and you don't have to break the bank. What's not to like! Wouldn't be out of place in Soho.
N. K.
Not at all what you'd expect to find in the neighbourhood. We went along on a Saturday evening and it was buzzing but didn't feel overcrowded. Our dinner was accompanied by a talented duo singing some easy listening hits - Frank Sinatra and the like with accompaniment from a piano.
We arrived just before 7 and were a little concerned to hear that they'd need the table back by 8:30, but fortunately they changed their minds and let us keep sitting - a good thing, since we weren't even on mains by then!
The cocktails weren't too expensive and were masterfully crafted. The food was also reasonable (~£20 for a main) and delicious. The wine was perhaps a little more marked up than I'm used to, but a £30 bottle of Australian Shiraz was still drinkable enough.
Service was prompt and cheerful throughout, and they kindly invited us to take in the last half hour of the upstairs jazz show, ordinarily a ticketed event. Practically every table was full, but again a spacious layout meant that it didn't feel claustrophobic.
All in all, a very classy and highly enjoyable evening for much less than you'd pay in Soho or similar. This place is definitely worth a trip off the beaten track.
J. P. B.
Amazing place and music. The jam sessions from L'art are.really enjoyable and the talent that gets on stage is jaw dropping. I can't wait to go back.
N. L.
Had dinner at the ground dining floor so can't comment on the live music. Food was decent and service was friendly. One of the only nice sit down meals in the area but slightly overpriced for what it is. Great for locals who want French bistro fare in Elephant & Castle.
A. W.
There's no faulting the service and atmosphere at this genuinely charming restaurant, bar and jazz venue. You can tell it's a true home for regular patrons and I can see why with its focus on real musical talent and great atmosphere. The house wine was very drinkable and there's no doubt they care about customer service and the food they serve. Perhaps it's unfair but we had the impression the menu hadn't changed for some time, though of course there will be seasonal variations and my asparagus was nicely cooked. Generally though, the food didn't live up to our expectations. The prawn starter was served in a somewhat chewy vol-au-vent. That's the most middle class thing I've ever written. The smoked cod was nicely cooked but not as light and tasty as we'd hoped. The cassoulet was good traditional fayre but is that worth £16 in 2019? The fatty cuts of meat in a bowl of soupy haricot beans didn't convince me it was. French cooking is really struggling in a city filled with more diverse, flavoursome options. In all, the bill came to more than £80 which we didn't begrudge but it felt £20 more than we would have paid. We skipped dessert and left a little disappointed.
G. I.
You have in one place, French restaurant, a piano bar with live performances (a very good one) and a bar with all kinds of jazz performances! The real joy for your soul! Highly recommended!
Z. C.
Best place to go if you are ever in need of a little bit of France.. Great food, great wine list, wonderful staff and the jazz club upstairs is the icing on the cake!
I. I.
Beautiful place, food was excellent, service outstanding, piano bar amazing!!! Jazz club OMG!!!
Definitely worth it...we will definitely be back and we highly recommend it...we had our team Christmas party....so much fun
A. M.
Great place to listen to live jazz! Food was very good too
N. F.
The main draw to this establishment is its live entertainment. What works well is its very affordable cover and the ability to listen to live jazz in a small restaurant setting.
F. d. C.
we only had drinks the service was friendly
Also there is live jazz music for a charge, best to check with the venue before visiting
A. Y.
Lovely restaurant, great jazz club. I'm came here to see the Green Street Trio in the club on the top floor, the venue is intimate and cosy. The restaurant is on the lower floors. A good bar with reasonably priced wine and generous selection of tasty bar food including cheese, charcuterie, merguez sausages and hot goat cheese salad. What's not to like? And the band were really good too. A great fun evening.
T. P.
This restaurant is a good France restaurant. Its decoration is lovely. Staff is very friendly. You can listen good live music. We went as a large group for birthday party. Everything was good.
J. K.
Very delicious food and extremely accommodating staff, the show upstairs really round off the night nicely. The pianist at the restaurant was very charming but probably didn't need the speakers as it was slightly too loud at times but that's just personal.
L. C.
Toulouse will never disappoint for entertainment. I've both watched and been in shows at this venue and it's always an excellent night. The staff are gorgeous and friendly and the shows are always top tier!
N. G.
Great value for money brunch menu. We had English breakfast, shakshuka, and a croque madame. It came with lots of baguettes and fantastic salty butter... yummmm. With coffee it was about £15 each. Very filling and great value.
L. C.
Great French restaurant with tasty food (the lamb and the cassoulet are very good!) and the live music makes it a nice romantic date spot! Really professional and friendly wait staff!
H. C.
What a night at the jazz club!!! Loved it! The music was great and we enjoyed some wine and cheese and charcuterie boards while listening. I'll come back for sure!
M. A.
Great restaurant! I'm glad we discovered it and got a chance to meet the amazing staff! First time trying oysters and I was delighted by the taste! Great place overall and worth checking out! Next time I'll wear a dress!
A. A.
This place is super unique - jazz bar, piano bar & french restaurant in ONE. The food was epic, can’t wait to go back and check out the music. Staff were super courteous, well informed and helpful - none of us were disappointed with what we ordered. You won’t regret going here! Being an icecream junkie I really rate the selection of flavours and consistency of the icecream.
I. E. B.
Great restaurant! The food is delicious and the staff members are incredibly caring.
A. B. (.
Went for a open mike evening to see my wife sing... Lovely place over 3 floors. Cosy, good food good service. Easy parking around in side streets for evening meal or events.
F. F.
A wonderful Christmas dinner! Our Christmas plans had collapsed and we were not looking forward to the big day, when we chanced upon this amazing French Jazz restaurant with a perfectly splendid 8-course meal. Excellent friendly service, delicious food well-presented, and wonderful music from the pianist Marcus Hill. Well worth the journey to “South of the River.”
R.
One of the best places in London for a classy piano with piano music. Great food, friendly service. Romantic and authentic.
J. L.
Fabulous venue lovely staff great food and the jazz is icing on the cake
H. H.
Hidden gem in vast London. The intimate atmosphere and sounds of jazz brings you back to the 70is, and the food to modern age. A perfect bland for romancy and a nice night out
A. O.
I often come here for Dr Sketchy, a brilliant monthly event combining cabaret and doodling (no actual artistic ability required). Recently I also tried their breakfast, and it is WONDERFUL. Everything is done just right, and in perfect amount, and the French toast is fluffy and delicious.
J. K.
Lovely place with great food and friendly staff.
They also have live music time to time, which is great addition to experience and authmosphere
T. C.
Good services and carefully prepared dishes. I suppose it's nice going during a concert or so, would visit again!
I. O.
The food was outstanding. The staff were amazing and the entertainment was spot on. Highly recommended
J. R.
Live entertainment every night and nicely cooked French food. The service is a bit depending on when you are there. On our last visit it was hard to get a hold of someone to get salt or refilled water. We will definitely go back through.
G. A. S.
It's a hidden gem. We had someone play the pianno and the atmosphere is really romantic and lovely. The service is impeccable and the food is really good! Shame the place is not more popular but guess this could be a part of it's charm. Happily recommend!
C. N.
Food was really delicious, and staff really friendly. Only negative was that bread didn't come with the snails.
E. H.
Recently moved into the area and second time at the venue. Lovely food downstairs (the three courses for £20 menu is a steal), levels staff, interesting drink selection and most importantly great music upstairs. We will be back soon!
a. c.
Great atmosphere, talented musicians and the most pleasant, accommodating staff to meet. Would recommend to anyone looking for a wonderful night away, jazz fan or not... Anyone who plays any sort of music would appreciate the ability and community at Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Tuesday's!
J. R.
All I can say is WOW!!!! First night taking my mum out after 2long years of lockdowns. She was so relaxed and the staff made us both feel so welcome and were extremely attentive. It was my birthday as well and the singer was fabulous as was the food. The king prawn starter in pastry with gorgeous sauce and non mums smoked salmon was out of this world and good sized portions. The wine was amazing also the wagu steak was beautifully cooked and tender compliments to the chef for putting up with me being fussy but he went above and beyond to make me happy and I really was. Just to add the red wine Jew is the best I’ve tried was so moorish. 10/10 for whole experience also great cocktails. Thanks team and can’t wait to be back !!!!
T. H.
Lovely venue.. Very quaint and charming interior. Went to a jazz gig on the top floor. Staff are very welcoming and really made the night special. Will definitely be back to sample the food soon!
H. F.
Amazing food and great staff. Owners, praise these lovely staff of yours. They’ve made the difference.
N. K.
This place never disappoints. They have fresh dishes for reasonable pricing, there is no waiting time even when the place is loaded.
T. R.
I'm a L' Art de Jazz regular on tuesday nights - love that gig!
S. R.
The food was really good, heads up not many vegetarian options
M. Z.
Best restaurant I’ve been to in London. Had my final time with my girlfriend before going long distance. The hospitality was so special and the food was delicious. Will come back ASAP!
D.
A real gem. Great food, good wine selection, nice atmosphere and interesting events programme. I also heard from an artist friend, who performed there, that they were treated well by the management
I. L.
Great night at the Lautrec. The jazz club on the 2nd floor opens around 9pm. Bar food and wines / beers and cocktails are outstanding and one can book a table for a proper à la carte French good selection. Definitely worth arriving earlier for. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Fantastic night all round. We will be back!
M. P.
Amazing place, the best experience I ever had for live jazz .
A. P.
I've been to the jazz bar here (there's also a restaurant part downstairs) a few times now. The space is beautiful, the music is spot on and the service is very nice. Highly recommend.
A. M.
We went for the first time for supper yesterday - what a find! Superb 3 courses & glass of wine for £29, fantastic value. We had quail with black pudding, I can't remember what the sauce was but it was lovely. My companion had lamb shoulder which fell off the bone. Starters of charcuterie and cheese were varied and tasty. The staff are friendly and attentive, the atmosphere is cosy and the live music was wonderful. Really nice acoustic cafe jazz style, not too loud as is often the case, everything just works really well. Will definitely be going very regularly from now on.
S. D.
Had a lovely evening listening to sweet jazz and the ambience was embracing.
Would definitely recommend
D. O.
Superb service! Efficient and very friendly... Food was so good too! Compliments to the chef 👏🏿
J. H.
Good jazz, great atmosphere and decent menu. Recommended.
C. C.
Favourite place. Good food, good music, great atmosphere, passionate owner
C. m.
Amazing service.
Polite staff.
Food was cooked to perfection. Overall a good service.
D. J.
Absolutely spot-on in terms of:
1. Delicious food
2. Service (all waiters are super charming, non invasive, and mindful of your requirements)
3. Live music
Everything contributes to a brilliant dining experience.
We have since been back and bring friends.
G. M. Z.
We spent in London a couple of days, and near our BnB there was this Restaurant, that from the outside did not inspired us to enter, but in the end we did. And thank god we entered! We had a beautiful nigh there, eating terrific food and having some entrateinament too!
S. M.
We went to Toulouse Lautrec for dinner a couple of weeks ago. The food was delicious, we had the cassoulet and special of the day. We also had creme brûlée which was the best one we had in London! The waiter Sam was very friendly and excellent at their service. Would definitely recommend this place!
K. T. M.
We have visited recently for a quiet dinner and found the experience of exceptional quality. Waiting staff has been very friendly and attentive, both the food, wine and the service has been of a very high standard. It is quieter than usual due to COVID 19. On that front, suitable measures are put in place to keep people safe without being detrimental to the quality of the experience, we would definitely return again. We understand music performances resume soon, too, so we should keep an eye on the programme.
G. D. V.
It wouldn’t be the first place you pop in when you see it from the outside, but we had great food! The foie gras and tartare were absolutely delicious and waiters on point. Would highly recommend!
R. A.
I loved the cassoulet. I really recommend and want to go back for the piano or jazz night
A. S.
A takeaway from Toulouse Lautrec is a magical treat. Everything is impeccably cooked and I especially love the fig tart - exceptional, not too sweet, delicious. These are grim times. We deserve the care this restaurant puts into its food, and we should make sure it can survive. Order or visit when you can.
M. C.
Fantastic place. Great food and staff are exceptional!
J. H.
I went to Toulouse Lautrec restaurant to see a show on the top floor. It's a small intimate venue. I had the brunch and show offer which I thought value for money. The food was French style, served hot and quite tasty. Drinks menu had a diverse range of choices. As show's are few in number this venue is worth supporting.
R. K.
Fabulous food, brilliant staff, great entertainment. Don't think I've ever felt so looked after in a restaurant. I can't recommend Toulouse Lautrec highly enough.
E. v. S.
We held our wedding party at Toulouse and couldn't have wished for a better location or more helpful staff! Laurent and his team were very knowledgeable, food was delicious, karaoke included and the jazz band that we booked was all taken care off. Also very reasonably priced compared to other venues, and ten times more authentic atmosphere. Have visited several times for jazz concerts & food, always excellent service, highly recommend for an evening out or private function.
M.
Fantastic venue. Good food and Music. Friendly staff.
T. A.
Lovely place. I would say that they require more staff and better cleaners, as there was a strong stench upstairs and only 1 bartender for 20 people.. An extra person was called but they didn't serve anyone, just tidied up the glasses. It's a shame as I was second in line for a very long time. The jazz was incredible and attracted a brilliant crowed. The food looks good too, but I didn't get a chance to eat any unfortunately so I can't review that. I'll happily change my review if things improved here, as I will be coming here for live jazz again. Stay tuned.
Edit: the owner seems sweet so I can't help but give an extra star
O. A.
The beef tartar was really good. We also ordered the lamb shoulder, juicy and tender.
P. C.
I've been coming here since the week it opened and always like it. Traditional French restaurant with jazz. Even in covid times you can have dinner or a drink in the piano bar with live music, or if you just want food without music you can sit downstairs. I also know from lockdown times that their food travels unexpected very well for takeaway or delivery, which they are still doing, if you're scared of going out.
L. V.
Fine place, considering it has a pub, restaurant and event venue. A package might I say.
E. O.
We visited on a jazz night. What to say!
Food was fantastic (not cheap but definitely worth every penny) great cocktails, very nice wine list.
The jazz band was fantastic and the main reason we visited but one can't go wrong in visiting just for dinner or indeed simply for a little bite and drinks.
K. T.
Lovely meal, lovely staff, great live music.
V. F.
We loved this place. Good music while the dinner is served. The service is ok but the wine selection is slightly overpriced. The food is on average but if you pop up after 21 you will get the after theatre menu for 20£ which is worthy!!
Overall very nice experience
S. Z.
Another wonderful meal at Toulouse Lautrec. The staff were all friendly and attentive. The food was consistently delicious - the Duck a l'Orange was just so juicy with crispy skin. Crème brulee was one of the best I've had - I even convinced my husband who really dislikes creme brulee and custard sort to delightfully finish half of it. Sorry no picture - they were too tasty to stop eating!
It could be a bit busy at rush hours, but the nice ambient helps with the waiting in between courses. Although the piano performance is upstairs, you could hear it downstairs too - and I prefer that because I love being about to watch the chefs prepare the meals in the half-open kitchen.
They have taken suitable precautions for the COVID-19 by spacing out a lot of their tables and making sure everyone who enters uses hand sanitizer before sitting down.
It's the place I would go if I want to know for sure I'll have a good time dining out. I recommend to anyone who likes low-key and friendly restaurants with great food.
R. M.
Fantastic French food, amazing value for price especially when you get world class piano along with the meal. Highly recommended
S. W.
We had a really special evening here. On this occasion, the jazz entertainment was in the piano bar. We had the Lauren Lucille Jazz Duo. Lauren's voice was amazing and the piano playing was amazing. And on the restaurant side of things, wonderful staff, wonderful food, wonderful service. The only shame was we had to leave. Thank you for a truly wonderful evening.
R. B.
People working in this restaurant were warm, welcoming and helpful.
The place and the music was lovely.
More importantly, the cuisine was delicious. Products are really high quality.
Definitely recommend this place!
H. M.
Wonderful! ♥️ Spent a fantastic evening enjoying the food and music. Service was flawless. Great menu recommendations and after seeing out the other guests drinking wine and port we were treated to a private concert from Paul Shine on the piano. It was truly wonderful.
I. K.
Went here with my son and his girlfriend for Sunday dinner on a visit from Birmingham. What a wonderful place. The food was superb, we were made to feel very special and they managed social distancing really well. Please support these guys, they need you or you will lose them. That would be a tragedy,
p.
Incredible restaurant, the food is simply amazing and the service is impeccable. Highly trained staff and the manager who was looking after us was attentive, helpful and extremely polite. We booked for a friend's birthday and we were sat in the "library" room which was a treat, and also very private, without even asking when booking. I sincerely wish I was living nearer, I would visit as often as possible. I now look forward to experiencing a night with live music upstairs. 5 stars doesn't do the place justice.
M. O.
The venue is tiny and upstairs stage is extremely small. However, the range of musicians pulls in an admiring crowd, and the venue has an impact of intimacy which makes the place convivial. Bar food can be served during the shows but recommend you lay off the food for the need of elbow room during the show. Soft drinks can be very expensive and the food, all very well presented, can also be expensive too so expect club prices. Very popular with families and their well known celebrities on Sunday afternoons. Recommend for music lovers of jazz and soul.
C. L.
Good food good service on top of live jazz
L. A.
Fantastic food with a very nice wine list. All the staff were superb - very friendly and welcoming. It was our first time visiting but will be back again as soon as lockdown 2.0 ends.
R. S.
Nice quiet place with a lovely live music show. The staffs were all very friendly and quick service. The food was soo good. The wine was also super nice. They apparently have jazz vlub show 3 times a week. Would recommend this place for some cozy lovely dinner or just a chill evening.
K. M.
Small and pleasant club. My first time and was worth my one and half hour drive as had a great time. The show was good as musicians and guest acts ware well prepared. Drinks at reasonable prices and they also have a terrace to satisfy the needs of a smoker where you can sit out with your drink .
S. D.
This a fantastic restaurant. Great atmosphere friendly staff serving tasty food.
G. S.
Very good place!
Nice guys tasty food enyojable music....
A. J. K.
Visited this place with a girl friend. Had an amazing time. Fish fillet was well made, starters were nice also. I would like to say special thanks to the staff who were very professional, friendly and attentive to our needs. It was our first date night and it was very memorable. I wish we could visit it again as they have a nice jazz club which we have not visited yet unfortunately but I think it should be awesome.
P. P.
Brilliant staff, super friendly and lovely atmosphere. I recommend and will be back.
J. L.
Very posh. Excellent table service and albeit a pre set menu they were still able to adjust the individual dishes as i explained a bowel condition with an intolerance to certain ingrediants. Indeed the waitress was excellenty knowledgable with the dishes and took over my meal with strictness that i appreciated as a customer. The food was gorgeous with compliments to the chef as often french food is too rich for me but the duck la orange , i could of eaten another plate it was very nice.
N.
A little gem hidden in Kennington. We have been there 3 or 4 times already, to the cabaret (comedy club), not yet to the restaurant & we love it. The most striking aspect of this venue is how incredibly friendly & laid back the staff is, & very professional too. Quality wine is served. The premises themselves are pretty, welcoming & have a lot of character. We really recommend this place.
D. W.
Amazing atmosphere and excellent food. Really enjoyed the live piano music while having my meal but the have other seating if that isn't your thing. Would recommend to anyone to go there. Definitely a repeating customer. The best places in Kennington for a romantic or date night
T. Ç.
Visited yesterday for the Fallen Heroes. Stepping in without any actual ideas, it exceeded well beyond our expectations. Great ambience, great musicians; absolutely enjoyed our time. I have to say this was the greatest value-for-money experience that I've ever had in London. Will definitely come back again for another jazz session . Thanks!
Q. C.
Super friendly and sweet service, authentic decor and probably one of the most famous Jazz or live music destination in London. So why 3 stars? The food is a bit... normal. It’s like an adopted UK version of French dishes. Very home taste, nothing remarkable but also not to complain as well. It’s like the food from a hotel chains restaurant- no surprise but definitely not bad.
R. L.
Had been a quasi regular for several years. Visited Saturday March 16 for dinner and music in Piano bar. Quality of food and wine excellent as usual. Unfortunately, only half of the main course order we made arrived and then had to wait half an hour for dessert (...sorbet). Longish break between excellent music sets as well (about 45 mins to an hour). Thought the waiter and chef did a food jov catering to vegans as well, two very good off menu items. Overall enjoyable and recommended for patient people who enjoy good food at a decent price and occasionally checking in with their waiters.

Came here for dinner and a jazz performance. The decor is very authentic and nicely done, and has a distinct French feel to it. The food is excellent and appropriately priced - the cassoulet in particular was superb.
The jazz show was also very good. Would definitely recommend.
M. P.
The music is always high quality and it's a lovely venue. The food is good and the service has always been attentive in my experience.
A minor suggestion would be to have more summery dishes - there's a fair bit of 'meat, gravy and potato' style dishes which I must stress are still very nice but seem more at home in the winter months. Either way it's a great place, well worth visiting.
M. R.
Always a good treat; recently got there before they closed the kitchen, the young Host and the Head Chef kindly agreed to prepare and serve me & my friend a Sirloin Steak while we had our Armaniac Thank you, once again!
It's was my fourth time dining here! Always impressed! And to top it off they have a terrace and rooftop if you desire some fresh air or if you are a smoker this is a huge plus!!
J. B.
Great little jazz club with nice wines and super nibbles. Very reasonable prices
A. M.
Cozy place with live music and tasty food. Was not crowded on Sunday evening.
A.
We had an enjoyable evening at this restaurant. Excellent customer service, nice music & great food, esp. the meat and the crème brûlée. I would recommend to book directly on the website than on Google as Google doesn't show you all the booking options.
M. A.
Wonderful restaurant not too far from Elephant and castle station with a great menu included fine wine and cheese. You can find three different spaces included a quiet restaurant, a jazz club - upstairs - and at the top a bar with a little stage where some cabaret acts or others small shows are often performed.
Well known for open mics, this place is very friendly and everybody can speak French if you need to. I highly recommend.
K. D.
Once again the food was wonderful and the staff are fantastic. We were there to see Louis Messenger does Doris Day and it was superb
J. Š.
Fantastic food and even better service. Definitely try their brill sharing plate, it's delicious!
A. H.
Amazing atmosphere, often multiple music gigs going on each night. The food is fantastic, though there is a price tag to match. The food and evening is value for money, and the service is really first rate and friendly.
L. B.
We found it by accident and now going there every Sunday. Very good food, good drinks selection and live music.
a. M.
It's an amazing place that travels you back to the good old France! I would definitely recommend it!
D. B.
Awesome food and entertainment. I play there occasionally as a pianist singer but I went once (off duty) with four friends (two of them French) and we were treated to tartare, truffles and delicious steak. My French friends were genuinely impressed. This place deserves considerable props for the way it treats its staff, its customers and its artists. At a time when most venues are dying or going to DJs its somewhat remarkable there is a place like this that not only sponsors live music but also prioritizes excellent service and tasty food with great presentation.
C. B.
I certainly enjoy the dishes and service, awesome location next to my home. The staff members are always kind. Will come visit again.
L. K.
We had a wonderful evening. Atmosphere was cosy and food was tasty, icing to the cake was the entertainment live Jazz music, they were brilliant! My husband was impressed of my choice and will definitely revisit again, overall 5/5.
H. B.
Had birthday dinner here, It was fantastic, the food the everything!!
A. P.
We enjoyed an excellent pre theatre lunch. For £20 first class menu, food was great as was the service. This is also a live music venue which we intend to try, jazz, blues, big band. Should be fun!
D. H.
Great food.you taste exactly french tastes. really liked the atmosphere ;They also have live music on specific nights. The staff are friendly but the service is slower than normal. Satisfied overall
C. R.
Lovely meal. Very tasty sauces. Staff fantastic. Couldn't do enough for you
L. P.
The live entertainment is excellent and the service very friendly. The food I’m sorry to say is mediocre at best and very expensive. Steak, chips and pepper sauce (all sold separately) are beyond average and not one of the steaks was cooked according to how they should have been (a French restaurant that can’t seem to do rare should be avoided). The cheese plate is also very meagre and stingy - served on a small side plate for over £8.
E. Y.
Lovely little place, feels very authentically french, cosy atmosphere and incredibly friendly and excellent service. Delicious food and wines! Cool jazz club upstairs but it looks like pre-booking for jazz shows needed. However, the restaurant serves both pre and post-show meals! Excellent little-known gem in Kennington. Highly recommended!
r. d.
We enjoyed one of the jazz nights here recently, which was a truly wonderful experience. I had booked the restaurant before the jazz show, but had to cancel at short notice. However there was bar food served at the jazz club, along with alchohol options including wines, cocktails etc. The jazz club is quite cosy and you feel quite close to the band, even speaking to them during breaks.
Also the staff and service are excellent and make the whole experience enjoyable. Definitely keen to go back.
S. S.
Great music by The red stripe band and lovely food staff very friendly and helpful.
N.
Ok... The comedy night was very nice. Staff was nice. I heard a bit of the piano singer on the second floor I am glad I did not go for the piano cabaret dîner... It sounded boring. A man sitting Next to me whom had eaten here previous to the comedy night joked about my food being late in saying that it was maybe for the best... I understood why just by having French fries and the not so homemade mayonnaise.
A. D.
Amazing vibe and a very interesting cultural programme! A place where to go again and again....
S. O.
Food was absolutely delicious. Music was great. Authentic French restaurant experience except for the staff who were friendly, courteous and helpful ;)
K. K.
We were searching online for a reasonably close at hand venue for an evening of jazz, and came across this place. We cannot comment on the food served in the restaurant itself as we juat went for the music in the upstairs club area, but it was a great evening. The band, Fanjazztyx, was excellent, and the audience appreciative. Would recommend highly.
S. A. M.
Great ambiance and the live entertainment was brilliant to the setting of good food options and quality.
The only mild negatives from my experience were a delay in having our orders taken and the place having run out of some of the foods available but these very much pale compared to the positives!
R. S.
Great restaurant. Classic French bistro type food, good wine and great jazz. The prices are reasonable the service is pretty good too. Just a shame I don't live anywhere near it these days.
D. J. K. A. a. L.
The best Piano Bar | Jazz Club - in London and the people, food and music are amazing! We flew from Aspen, Colorado USA to London and our first stop was at the Toulouse Lautrec. Our good friend Samuel Ferman met us at the door and sat us next to the amazing piano player Scott Bramley for great live jazz piano music. Sam recommended an amazing French wine and the Rib-Eye Steak, with Truffle Mashed Potatoes. My wife and daughter explored the cassoulet, quail salad and loved everything. This joint is the "real-deal." If you want authentic food - off-the-tourist-strip? This is you go-to restaurant in London. Best food and music available. It is a five star restaurant at two star prices. I feel bad about leaving such a good review as this place is really a hidden secret in London. Enjoy.
B. B.
Excellent - service and food was fabulous (cod), wine and beer selection very good and jazz from Jo Harrop duo was icing on the cake. A memorable evening out. Thank you
r. s.
A very nice french cuasine offering live jazz music. Jacobe was a grate waiter =)
R. S.
I've always had a very warm welcome at Toulouse Lautrec. Looking forward to when live jazz is allowed once again (food is lovely too).
T. R.
A terrific little restaurant, seemingly relatively unknown. An absolutely lip-smackingly delicious cassoulet, so flavoursome and hearty fare. Good wines (chosen by customers tasting, I'm told), good service, and live jazz music every night to boot. Not cheap, but it was quality dining experience, in very nice environment. Will definitely return.
b. p.
Jazz on the 2nd floor very enjoyable and great ambience. The supposed French fine dining restaurant downstairs, not so fine.... The food was lukewarm when it got to the table, the vegetables were on the other side of al sentence. My friend would have only given one star because her salad was looking limp with bitter red onions and her blinis was just about lukewarm and slathered with tartare sauce. I'd go again for jazz but won't have food.
D. A.
A brilliant brasserie on the edge of Elephant & Castle with a buzzing atmosphere. The food is top rate and worth every penny especially the pork belly which I think they put crack in, could have eaten that for every meal for the rest of my life. Jazz plays upstairs so after you;ve finished your meal you can wander up and they will find you a seat. Excellent place to go to on a date, one tip is make sure you eat downstairs, upstairs is only bar snacks which are incredible delicious but small and pricey so you may as well get a full meal as will probably work out cheaper.
T. B.
Very nice friendly staff and great food.
A. B.
Lively place for a romantic dinner
L. H.
Totally exceeded my expectations. The foie gras and escargot was great. The bread for the foie gras could be less sweet. The pricing was reasonable. Loved the duck and brill, it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. On top the that, love the atmosphere and the service. Very attentive. Would definitely come back and recommend to friends.
J. C.
Quirky French restaurant. Hearty meals, well cooked, if not the most inventive. Great jazz bar upstairs. My one complaint is that other than specials, the menu never changes. I've been coming here for 3 years, and all the mains are exactly the same as when I first came.
D. M.
Didn't go for the food or drink, although from what I saw of the restaurant it looked great, I went with a friend to see some live music upstairs, jazz/blues. We had a great time and I'd definitely go back for the intimate, dimly lit surroundings and the many, many Negronis that we sunk.
S. H.
I've updated my rating having been back again recently and having had a great time. It's a very lovely atmospheric venue, with great French food, and the service is excellent.
A. K.
Fantastic food and atmosphere. There was also great music playing when we went. Not a place to be missed.
C. A.
We had the best confit duck burger before heading to a jazz concert upstairs. A bit pricey but the food was good. The atmosphere was quite "neutral", i.e not noisy, good service, no particular ambiance.
A. P.
Loved the atmosphere here, and so much selection.
J. H.
Great atmosphere. Amazing music. Party time
Y. D.
Been there to see a can can cabaret act, which was on for one night only. Had an absolute blast and laughted uncontrollably throughout!
The venue stretches a few storeys tall, and each floor ornamented with works of the great Henri de Toulouse- Lautrec. While there, had the feeling that I have finally found that special venue to brag about to my friends, or better off, keep the secret all to myself. An amazing experience all round!
R. C.
Absolutely fantasic! Great service, Great live jazz music in the evening. Decor is beautifully rustic and the food was 5 star. It was not expensive at all as I thought it was going to be. The staff are extremley polite and professionsl! Top marks!
J. C.
We popped into this restaurant as we have always passed it by. At first I was sceptical as it looked a little commercial, but the food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was romantic and intimate. We ate the raclette, rib eye, lamb and cheesecake and it was all delicious.
S. S. V.
Absolutely loved this place! The atmosphere is very jazzy, the décor is great and the food... Omg the food is gorgeous! Coming back for sure!
C. G.
Great food, great music, great staff.
M. M.
We had a conference meal there for a large group and the staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. the food was great and we all had a wonderful time. Highly highly recommended.
R. R.
I was pleasantly surprised about not only the well made food (which is a rarity in London) but especially the service! Absolutely delightful :) It's not a 5 star restaurant as it is small, but for what it is, this was great! My compliments to the chef on the guinea fowl
a. b.
Good jazz, much cheaper than Scptt's Upstsirs
h. j.
2nd time here in 3 weeks (once for dinner and another time for dinner and jazz club) very friendly and professional service, excellent and decently priced food and great music if you are into jazz or blues. Will definitely be back!
O. H.
I chose to host my 40th birthday party in the Top Floor of the Toulouse Lautrec, and every aspect of the service I received far exceeded my expectations.
From organising the food, music, a sound engineer for my Drag act and for my guests' Lip-Sync competition, Nolan and the team at Toulouse Lautrec organised it all with a smile, and no fuss.
I found the quality and quantity of food provided as part of the catering package to be superb, and the drink prices very reasonable. My guests and I really had a fantastic time, and this was owing in very large part to the service at the TL.
Thanks guys, you really made my 40th a night to remember.
V. B.
Lovely, special evening at Toulouse Lautrec Brasserie, Sunday 12th Feb.
Cosy, relaxed ambience; friendly, attentive service; uncomplicated, delicious French food. Last but not least, delightful entertainment from the equally delicious Harriet Eaves accompanied by Nathan Jarvis. Memorable - can't wait to visit again!
M. L.
Came for a night of food, wine and jazz and we were not disappointed! The food is excellent; very traditionally french. We had the gratinated goats cheese and fois gras with brioche to start, followed by the cassoulet for two. That cassoulet is one of the best things I have ever tasted! A 'must try'. Dinner was accompanied by a live pianist, and the jazz up in the loft afterwards was excellent. The waitress was friendly and very helpful with the wine list (let me try a few before I settled). Highly recommend!
E. O.
We went to a cabaret type of Jazz performance here and it was top notch. There is a restaurant, a bar/ cafe and a small bar with stage at the very top of the building. The prices are good and everyone was really welcoming.
S. J.
Excellent service from the staff (although d note my waitress was spanish) and great atmosphere. A real treat! The food wasn't the best French food in london but I would still recommend it. Try the steak!
Main complaint I have is they don't do skinny fries (frites)
E. M.
A small corner of France in the middle of Kennington with brunch served at weekends, also on an outdoor terrace. Delightful music club evenings on the first floor. The dinner menu features some classic French and British dishes.
M. W.
I found this to be a really nice venue. This was my first time attending. I came to visit the jazz club as they were hosting concerts for EFG London Jazz Festival. I will be coming again more regularly as it very local for me. 👍
D. K.
Great food, great staff in Kennington area. If you're in the neighborhood you should consider dining there. They also do live music on certain nights.
F. C.
Really nice for breakfast/brunch. Very nice evening menu too, though unfortunately it never changes. Great jazz bar upstairs on weekend evenings, with live performances.
K.
Great food and lovely atmosphere. Looking forward to coming back when there is live music.
B. D.
This is such a great find - lovely little restaurant just five mins walk from Kennington. We just had the bar food, and there was a great selection of items to choose from. I would say the sourdough is more like "salty granary bread"
R. G.
Very lovely food and good sized portions. We were charmed by the beautiful singer. Service was attentive yet not intrusive. Would recommend.
D. P.
Sunday lunch. 45 pounds for three course meal for two. Excellent duck confit and chocolate fondant. I'm sure it would be better on one of the live jazz evenings.
A. M.
Food was superb - service very attentive and music was excellent. We'd just popped in because it was near the theatre - but we'll definitely be back!
I. D. L. S.
I knew the place so i took my friends there and i must say was quite desappointed over all
first the server was sweet and polite very pleasant but clearly had no training at all
I ask for a specific wine been told they don't have it where in fact they did he just did not know it
Then my friend ordered a main that came burnt they changed it but was not of a good standard .
I had a dish that was not what it suppose to be instead of a chicken chasseur was a taste less tomato sauce with 2 of the bird pieces of your regular saturday night take away from a well known fast food restaurateur.
The starters were good.
So it is a great shame and you can only improve from there.
K. H.
Went here last night for our Anniversary and it was absolutely amazing. The food was incredible, staff so polite and friendly with an idyllic atmosphere. Couldn't recommend this place more. A real gem in London.
L. P.
I ate their food via takeaway. And I must say, it's the best takeaway I ever had - not trying to exaggerate. It's so good I decided to write this review, something I usually can't be bothered to do.
P. M.
A lovely venue for jazz. Much needed anywhere in the world. Good atmosphere and great and surprising mix of artists. Good food too.
J. 1.
Went to the jazz club, drinks were a reasonable price. Pretty cosy environment (Not too much). Could do with a revamp of the decor
L. K.
Really enjoyed everything about this place. Great food and wine. Piano bar was busier but preferred the restaurant for eating. Definitely will return.
N. D.
French Bistrot meets Jazz. Great authentic french traditional.memu. piano bar on 1st floor and stage on top.floor.
O. O.
Simply French food. Very lovely French beer and cider or cidre as they csll it. Hoew did they manage to attract those lovely jazzplayers.
Best French food place. (Just my opinion)AmI allowed to commemt on the location? Quiet Douth London lovation.quiet and stress freee.
R. B.
High quality food, amazing atmosphere. Definitely a special place for a nice dine out.
V. F.
It's very nice to have fine jazz bar there)
M. S.
Had a great time at Brasserie Toulouse Lautrec. For starters I had 6 burgundy snails in garlic butter (never had snails before) which were heavenly. Main was slow-cooked british pork belly with antillais black pudding, confit apple and truffle infused red wine sauce which was delicious though a bit underwhelming. For dessert (Homemade Apple Tart) we moved upstairs, adding jazz to the mix - it was a lovely evening overall.
Hint: The Wine List is extensive, almost all French (of course!) and very reasonable.
i. b.
Great atmosphere and 10/10 food!
A. H.
Lovely restaurant and amazing food!! The staff was very friendly also :) Will definitely return!
L. S.

Cramped,v good food,expensive,in restaurant
Jazz room on 3rd floor is booked separately from ground floor restaurant
Archipol young French singer..very authentic French chanson feel, and nice backing quartet..but I missed the contra basse
You can get some bar food in the jazz room
O. N.
Entertaining regular live music & quite good food. Expensive for the area but not for central London.
i. d.
Great music, cool location, decent food.

A nice, cosy restaurant with friendly staff. Apparently they have good live jazz there but I haven't been to any yet

Great food, staff and very good wine list.
E. D.
Nice brunch. Only people in there and the waitress as a bit innatentive/ got some things wrong. But nice food
D. C.
This is a great little venue for a romantic date. The Jazz makes it a cozy, cool venue but you have to book ahead, as it is an intimate space.
