This jazz venue is a true gem! Everytime I'm here I am amazed at the quality of the jazz performances. And the atmosphere is very intimate, the musicians are often up for a pint and a banter with you after they finished playing.

Nice club in North London. A bit cramped, but the acoustics were OK. Good local vibe in the area outside with good options for casual food and drink. The drinks in Vortex were reasonably priced, but not the best. Run by volunteers, who were all passionate about the place. The main downside is the poor connections by public transport. It makes an interesting counterpoint to Ronnie Scott's, the other main Jazz venue in London.

Very simple jazz club with good bar run by great people, mainly volunteers who make miracles inviting great artists and fantastic audience - we had a great pleasure to enjoy Espen Eriksen Trio with Andy Sheppard live!

We have been coming here fairly regularly for 8 years. By no means are we Jazz Savvy but we are in awe of talent and fascinated by extending the bounds of music to a width and breadth not previously imagined by us: and then we find both of those things covered here at the Vortex. There's no need to even mention individual artists at all as we have never seen anyone who wasn't a virtuoso at their best. Why only 4 stars? Sigh, the toilet situation....

What a great venue. It has all the good attributes for a good jazz venue, easy to get to, small and intimate, friendly staff, reasonable drink prices (for a club in this area anyway), tiny tables crammed in really close to the stage and great music! I went to the monthly Freedom improv jazz evening and it was fantastic; a very high standard of performers. At one point we even had a bass guitarist, a violinist, a vocalist and a tap dancer jamming together! It was great. I have a feeling I will be going back there many times!

Great place, nice atmosphere, great level of sound, so while you are listening you can share a word with your friend and you don’t need to scream in your friends ear and lose your voice. Great choice of blues and jazz mixed list during the evening. Thanks, I had a great time and see you soon!

If you like jazz, this is an amazing venue. The relative small size of the place makes the atmosphere intimate. Wood seats are confortable and organised around small tables. The sound is fairly decent. The band's invited here have always be excellent each time I went. It's not a fancy place though: the main room is a bit cheap and the bar is selling a small range of basic things.

Intimate venue (read: small) but usually with great upcoming artists performing. Prices are affordable but their drinks selection is light. Still, the small space makes it an intimate gig, you can actually feel the music and be hit in the face by the spittle of the saxophonist. No complaints, staff/volunteers are friendly, the revellers are usually older so you know, less coke-nosed youngsters.

Had many a fantastic evening here catching some great jazz. A small and intimate venue, frequented mostly by serious jazz fans. Highly recommended, as is the cafe downstairs, which does a nice selection of food and drink at reasonable prices.

One of the UK’s premier jazz venues. The Vortex is a stalwart of London’s creative music scene, hosting a wonderful programme of music for all to enjoy. If you’ve never been, pick up a ticket, support the venue (which a lot of volunteers work so hard to keep running) and enjoy a brilliant night!

Hats off to this jazz bar, it takes jazz seriously. However, a bit of (properly) food in the place wouldn't go amiss, as per eg the 606 club and I'm pretty sure they aren't too big on debit cards. Might help to increase profitability?

Vortex is my favourite jazz club in London. There is a lovely ambient during concerts with people who really enjoy good music. Prices are reasonable and you can also become a member. Concerts are always on the first floor so you can enjoy the concert with out any distractions. Thumbs up!

I'd give 5 starts for both the bar and the concert venue part of the Vortex club. The bar is quite small, has a lovely atmosphere and a very good selection of local craft beers. The concert venue is a bit small and the pillars right in the middle of the room are unfortunate, but the quality of the bands they choose make up for the small problems.

I've only been here in the wee hours of the night, so my review will present a different side of the Jazz Club! When we stumbled there at 3:30AM (Hallelujah, no North American-type last calls here!), I was eager to hear some funky jazz. Instead, there was RnB and hip-hop. But hey, it's open till 5AM and is one of the last resorts in Dalston, so you'll surely forgive the lack of jazz music at that hour?

Not yet been, but will be there on 25 Feb 2018 to see Dock in Absolute. Writing this from their set in b Flat in Berlin and this is World Class Jazz. Bound to be a 5 star evening on 25 Feb (I have no connection to the bsnd or venue). Time is now 4-6pm!
