Went to the Elvis Costello gig here. OK but could easily have been better. The bar lacks seats, could have done with at least double what they have. Plastic glasses! Plastic glasses should be made illegal. Worse than even plastic pints was the sound of the band. You would have thought someone of Elvis' stature could have got an engineer to mix it nicely. But no, despite having a whole bank of computer screens and machines with flashing lights, they made it sound like a bag of peas.
The photos are of the support band. Who were very good. Being only three of them there was less for the sound crew to mess up.

The city hall is one of the best music venues in Newcastle in my opinion, the sound is great, the view is always good and it feels like an intimate gig when you are there! Iv been lucky to see some amazing artists here x
S. H.
We went to the O2 City Hall Newcastle to see Rick Wakeman who was excellent. The venue itself was lovely and was all seated which is ironical as there were a lot of pensioners there. My son had seen the Fratellis there last week and the seats were removed. It is a brilliant venue.

Fantastic concert at City Hall tonight. Deacon Blue were absolutely amazing. The only snag was there wasn't much knee room. My knees are killing me. I was so relieved to stand up to dance. Lovely venue though.

Great potential for entertainment! I just wish more was offered.
The bar downstairs has a great atmosphere when filled with people and buzz. However I feel a bit more can be added to decorate the interior. The posters are great, just add a splash of attention, so it doesn't feel a bit past its time. Doesn't need to be expensive.
The hall is better. I like the new chairs, only not much space between the rows. Even for the average size people. See my photo.
There are a number of car parks nearby, just make sure you have enough time to find space, because on some days you might have to try different car parks.
And... if you say the start is 7pm, but the artists appear past 9pm... I shall certainly not be there on time next time! Especially in times of covid...
However, I had absolutely wonderful time yesterday! Great music and fantastic stories from talented Seasick Steve. He used at least 8 of his guitars, all with different character fit for that very song he was playing on it. Included the famous haunted red guitar. I recorded a couple of videos thinking to share with friends but they just don't do justice to the atmosphere in the hall.
That's the atmosphere of a high quality artist creates, that what was the value for me! Invite more interesting artists.
m.
Strange seeing all the seats gone from downstairs, although view was from the balcony. Sound quality was good, blinded by the lights though! Ridiculous prices for beer, heard a guy say it was £6.50 a pint!!
R. S.
So much better with the new seats put in. There is actually leg room! Love this venue and it's packed with history, it's really neat to know that The Beatles played here. Sometimes can be a long wait at the bar but generally it's all good.
I. M.
Saw Keith Urban here on Sunday 1/5/22.staff really helpful, bar was quick service, toilets easy to find. No lift if you have mobility problems. Great view of stage from balcony. Sound and lighting brilliant. Small venue, much better in my opinion for a concert
W. S.
Always enjoy our visits to the City Hall, the atmosphere is better than big arena's, been going since the 70s, seen some great acts over the years, long may it remain open...
G. P.
Ru Paul's Drag Race series 2 was a brilliant show. We queued around the block but it didn't take long to get into the theatre.
M. N.
Another great O2 music venue.
I love the work they do to keep as much of the older architecture as possible in these old buildings. Floor in here is sloped so the view is good all around too.
It's awkward having to go down 2 flights of stairs to the bar and toilets. Also the prices behind the bar are predictably outrageous but that seems to be something we just accept now.
A good venue on the whole, love a smaller venue vs an arena!
A. S.
Went for a Chvches concert and absolutely loved the sound though sometimes the vocals were a bit muffled. Drinks are a bit pricey but the 2 pint cups are an awesome idea
l. s.
Excellent concert (Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets) Brought back fond memories! Staff brilliant, polite, helpful!
Bar prices a bit steep, but that appears par for the course these days! Toilet facilities not exactly adequate for large amounts of people, but everyone queued amicably and there didn't appear to be any issues.
P. C.
Classic venue in Newcastle now in the hands of O2. Seats are still very cramped but not a bad venue.
V. H.
Enjoyed the concert. Love going to this venue. The only thing that spoils it for me is the smoke from smokers that gets blown onto the auditorium when the doors are open, whilst people are entering. It didn't help that our seats were on the second to last row.
M.
5 star performance tonight from Mr Paul Weller! Even he told us that our beloved City Hall is better than the Arena!
H. B. S.
Went to see Less Than Jake, nice venue, cleanest floors I have ever seen at any gig. No stickiness whats so ever. Sloped floor makes it easy for short people at the back to see over people's heads. All round good night.
T. F.
A nice place and staff were friendly went to see the Jersey Boys here they were brilliant got front row seats which were even better .
B. S.
Another brilliant performance from the ever humble but extraordinarily talented Steve Hackett.
The City Hall still proves to be an excellent old school venue to view and listen to the artists.
Covid checks prior to entry were a requirement for all attendants. They were carried out diligently and rapidly by the facilities/security team as to not cause too much disruption.
Long live the City Hall, a regional treasure to remain proud of as long as we continue to support it.
S. B.
I cannot speak highly enough of the staff at city Hall. I had broken my ankle and thought I would not be able to attend the long awaited Ru Paul's UK drag race. They offered me accessible stall seating and allowed me through the accessible entrance with my poorly foot. I had a fantastic night out, much needed after a 6 week hermitage in the house. Thank you so, so much!
S. C.
Love the city hall, great experience gigs now seats are removed but expensive for drinks. Two pint glass will set you back £12
K. S.
Great evening here seeing Sophie Ellis Bextor. Sound was great, view of the stage from the balcony was unrestricted all the way round as far as i could tell. The venue seating is a little tight for the larger person, but it has remained this way for as long as i can remember. Bar/drinks prices are as youd expect, higher than average but at least not Arena prices! Toilets seemed decent enough, must have been renovated in the past couple years. All in all, great venue for shows.
J. A.
The gig was AMAZING, staff very friendly and helpful. Enormous queue which took forever to get through and staff not great at stopping queue jumpers which was irritating. During the gig the bar carried on serving in one corner which was SO noisy it was hard to hear the artist talking in-between songs which was a shame. Nice setting though and lots of potential with a few tweaks.
S. H.
All the seats have been removed downstairs and some barriers installed in front of the sound desk and either side. The price of drinks is atrocious so we didn't bother. The sound was excellent for TV Smith, The Professionals and SLF.
I. M.
A brilliant place to go to, to see your favourite bands/ show. The staff are absolutely fantastic, so helpful and courteous, in fact I cannot say their praises enough, especially about a guy called Mark, top notch person.
C. S.
Classic venue. Great sound. Only downside is you can't buy tickets for your next gig at the box office. They tell you to go online and pay a service charge. What's the point of the box office being staffed?
s. m.
Great venue for a concert, great view from the balcony. The only reason it loses a star is because they charged me £6.50 for a pint of ale, I felt wounded when she asked for the money. Next time I'll just sneak in a few cans on the sly. 👀
N. B.
Absolutely cannot fault the staff at the 02, the boys did meet and greet early but we were given our own private meet and greet, the staff bent over backwards for us. I had my professional camera with me to do some promotional shots for one of the promotors and the word was quickly spread amongst security that I was to be left to take photographs with no disturbance.
One of our party was unwell due to having had her covid jab that day and the staff looked after her impeccably.
Honestly couldn't have asked to be treat better by a venue, what a fabulous night for tour closing night and what a show by Boyzlife and their band.
P. S.
Have seen lots of shows and concerts at the city Hall over the years. The venue has always been all seated, which takes some fun out of a rock concert, that has changed recently, and the atmosphere has improved as a result. The bar is downstairs, expect to waite for a drink, and to pay through the nose, for a beer. £6.99 when I was there.
H. C.
Brilliant show by Ross Noble, hilarious as always. City Hall - stall seats much tighter now so really don't appreciate people coming in with pint glasses and spilling it onto us, not on!! Is it really necessary to have pints and bottles of wine during a show!!!
l.
Been going to my favourite venue since 1973 and it's the first time without any seating downstairs. Went with my daughter to see Keith Urban. Absolutely amazing concert.
J. G. (.
Nice to see it's had a refit since I was last there. New seating was needed and I'm glad that's now in place, even if it is a little narrow. I still don't fully understand the policy of removing the tops from bottles of water before you're allowed to go into the auditorium, when you can go in with a full bottle of wine.
V. A.
Apart from the long, long queue to get in, which some time of it spent in pub!, once we found the end and get moving slowly it took us 50 mins to get in the building, but the show was so worth it. I've never waited so long to get inside a venue before, normally rock up, get in and get drinks and look around then settle for show. Slightly different this time but it didnt spoil our night, had a great time.
P S glad it was decent weather lol.
K. T.
Gorgeous venue but the bar prices are EXTORTIONATE! £4 for a pint of Pepsi from a mixer tap. £8 for a pint of lager. They search your bags at the door and confiscate any sweets or drink. Daylight robbery that leaves a sour taste after an otherwise pleasant experience. Boo.
C. K.
Attended a few gigs over the past 30 years at this venue but think modern life has outgrown the venue as the balcony seating doesn’t really accommodate for the chip munching bodies of today. Usually find me standing at the front but with a knee/ankle injury I had to choose the seats and felt so uncomfortable. Surrounded by sponsors of XXXL clothing and had a knee in the back of my head, a sweaty back squashing my knees and some non deodorant using beer guzzler practically wrapping himself around me.
G. R.
Still a great concert venue with good acoustics. Much improved seating recently installed.
J. J. (.
Great night (Keith Urban) at the City Hall. Great access for disability users. Staff I spoke to were all so friendly and helpful. Looking forward to more events there having a great experience this time.
P. A.
Fab. Went to see The Divine Comedy who were great! Been going to see bands at Newcastle City Hall since 1978. It's a great venue
D. B.
Brilliant venue. Small enough so it stays personal. Security are a little uptight and aren't keen on you dancing but apart from that a great place.
A. W.
Love this venue. I prefer smaller places for shows. Drink prices as expected. Plenty Staff available if needed.
A. H.
New standing stalls area much better than seated for gigs. Just needs to work on the bar area and it'll be a great venue once again.
S. A.
Great venue and great for what I'd call a cozy close up performance. It's one big let down is that the seats are designed for people maybe 100 or more years ago and are very cramped by today's standards.
M. A.
Great Gig re ABC 40th Anniversary of Lexicon of Love. However there were far too many people old in body and old in mind! Relax ladies and gentlemen life is too short!!
Have to say the Security Staff handled the situation brilliantly x
N. W.
Been here a few times recently, A Rock concert, Jason Manford and then Florence and the machine. An old venue with lots of character, mens upstairs toilets could do with being bigger, a bit of a squeeze during an interval of a show.
i. t.
Great gigging venue. Well staffed comfortable Seating. Drinks are a little expensive but great live music
S. M.
Great venue, most seats give you a good view of the stage, Saturday 16th April, Paul Weller, the city hall was very warm...no air con on....poor ventilation
P. W.
Decent venue, bar was slow and it took ages to get out. Overall it's great space and would definitely go to see something here again.
K. M.
Was here 27th May and left phone behind. Massive shout out to staff member Mark who went above and beyond his role and delivered my.phone to our hotel. Mark take a bow. Fantastic
S. R.
Went to see The ELO experience, brilliant night.
Like the new layout of the more comfortable, bigger seats.
Staff were great.
A. H.
At long last, they have invested some money in the building, the old saggy seats have gone(Thank the Lord), the gents toilet is no longer a health hazard. All good and makes it a much more pleasant experience. Mind you, drink prices are a tadge steep 😁Back to see Katherine Ryan, and the service and environment is the same, if not better
P.
Really nice venue and good atmosphere! But terrible drink options and expensive. £5.95 for a can of Carlsberg was absolutely shocking.
j. k.
I visited the 02 city Hall for a music concert it was a sell out but I wasn't surprised for who it was James arthur only thing I think needs improving is ventilation or some kind of fans air conditioning I know its a old building but quite a few people passed out with the heat
P. O.
Just had a night of Burlesque.... Not what I was expecting.. I was expecting, lots of dance, feathers, music ext.... The band should have gone down with Titanic, terrible, the Burlesque show was OK, beautiful ladies and man, 😍😍 it could have been much better, the man who did a spot with a bike n a straight jacket had no pont in being there 🤔🤔🤔🤔 have no idea why he was part of the show really, quite boring... However I think the Burlesque dancers were fantastic, a beautiful art, just feel they were a bit disappointing really 😳😳😳😳
R. C.
Great venue...set up great.drinks reasonable
P. J.
Much improved experience for gigs now the chairs can be removed from the floor if needed. Brilliant atmosphere.
D. B.
Love the venue inside for seeing artists
But queues are absolutely insane and the drink prices are astronomical and lack variety. take a few hundred quid though if you are wanting to get merry 🍺
J. J.
Great gig venue but not a great selection of drinks in the main hall- better selection in the downstairs bar.
K. C.
Great venue but the prices of drinks are rediculous. Nearly £7 for a bog-standard lager and £3 for a small bottle of water.
R. M.
An excellent venue. Saw Jimmy Carr who was hilarious as usual. Lovely staff and reasonably priced drinks.
P. A.
Fantastic..took the boring seats out ..my 1st gig rainbow 🌈 78 .
If them seats w ooot in82 i would have had blackmores cheap white smashed pretendy strat ...i was on top of it but some bouncer helped twatin front .... it was mine and 🤨🤣🤣🤣🤣
G. H.
Great venue for gigs, one of the old fashioned concert halls, sound is good and you get a good view, staff always polite and friendly
j. f.
Organised guidance and entry to theatre. Friendly staff. Smaller venue to arena type show making it pleasant to view entertainnent in comfort
S. S.
Great band Robert Cray band, wonderful night
G. D.
Another great night at the City hall. Nice to see the rock bands coming back. Bit of a waste of time having seats for a gig though as everyone stands or moves to the front of stage. Not great for viewing if you're disabled. They either need disabled viewing areas where you can see over people standing or to enforce seating which I doubt would work. Still it's a great venue though
P. C.
Fantastic show. My only complaint is that alcohol is allowed in the theatre.people up and down all night which spoiled the show for me.
L. B.
Great venue. Close to bus station and taxi ranks, only downside was the drinks were expensive.
R. H.
Went to a Michael kiwanuka gig...seating removed and worked well for the gig. Still the facilities are out dated (small bars and toilets, tight corridors). Expensive bar....6.20 for a can of cider
M. K. (.
Covid-19 passports checked before entry, very thorough and pleasant. Theatre 1/3 empty, Lindisfarne were brilliant though less impressed with the support - a brass band playing Christmas Carol's both before and during mid-session break. Great night out
C. N.
1st gig at City Hall since before Covid. Was a huge step for both of us & we were rather worried about new venue & being around humans again.
Shouldnt have worried though as all the staff were brilliant. Especially the lass on the new disabled platform & the venue manager.(sorry I'm rubbish at names) We had been regulars at old o2 since it was Carling academy so really pleased to get back into normality & gigs again. Idles were as always phenomenal. Bring on Gojira in March
S. R.
Fantastic rework of the city hall, with the seating removed downstairs for most gigs it opens up the area beautifully. The bottle / can bar on the ground floor is also a bonus downstairs they still have the main bar with draft beers but no Guinness anymore. The downside that it is now run by the O2 group so the bar prices are now extortionate. £6.50 for a pint and £2.95 just for a bottle of water, and spirits are £4.95 a shot. Would give it 5 stars for the venue but the bar prices drop it down to 3. The other problem was it was roasting needs some blowers or some better ventilation for big crowds.
S. S.
Beautiful historical building, and perfect for large but intimate live music. Great views all round and brilliant sound quality. Unfortunately the rows of seats in the balcony are very narrow so be prepared to sit with your knees crushed against the chair in front.
S. P.
Great Venue easy to find. Seating is quite cramped and was very hot inside.
P. S.
Still one of the best venues I've been to. The atmosphere is always great in the perfectly sized (about 2,ooo) venue. The sound is good too without being deafening.
Lindisfarne can probably claim this as their own place. The Christmas shows are legend & rightly so.
Proud to be a Geordie.
D. W.
Brilliant night out, great covid measures in place, proffessional staff. Very friendly atmosphere.... paloma was absolutely amazing 👏 😍 🙌 ❤
d. h.
Simply one of the best music venues anywhere.
It's always been fantastic acoustically but since reopening after lockdown they've upped the ante by adding a bar and toilets on the balcony level.
A wonderful auditorium and beautiful foyer make it the ideal place to see and hear any artist/band.
Not the biggest stage or venue in the City but it's big enough and classical in features.
Only drawback is perhaps a lack of legroom in some seats, hence four stars instead of five.
j. b.
This place has lots of memories for me including my friend laughing so hard at Billy Connelly I thought she was going to hyperventilate!! It still has loads of character and is great for smaller gigs but the seats are so uncomfortable! On the up side there are now loads of ladies loos and it's such a change to see blokes queueing 🤣 bar downstairs is well stocked but bar on balcony only has a few lagers and cans. £9.50 for pint and half of lager. seats about 2,000
N. G. (.
New seats and lick of paint has refreshed the interior while keeping lots of the original charm. Staff and access are fine but parking can be an issue if don't live within the local are.
R. G.
Great venue for live music good acoustics very helpful staff only down side no lift to balcony area.
S. J.
Great venue, often a bit on the warmer side and the seats are rather snug but never had a bad show there.
C. M.
Brilliant show. Mark was a fabulous Manager on duty this evening. He was so helpful and friendly, an excellent ambassador for the City Hall.
M. G.
Nice Hall, but very cramped and ridiculously expensive drinks.
A. D.
Well organised, the refurb is good and Showsec stewards are pleasant enough, but the price gouging in the bar is ridiculous. £6 for a can of cheap lager or £6.50 for a pint is rank profiteering. You’d make more by selling it for less as punters wouldn’t be so keen to load up in the local pubs first.
V. V.
We were in the balcony. Seats are very cramped and I'm not talk but my knees were knocking on the back of the seat in front of me. As were the people behind. Staff were wonderfull. Toilets were a nightmare to get to with all the stairs and I have no health problems. All in all a good night if not an experience not sure if I'll be going back there ..but try it out its clean.the staff are great and very helpful and lots of them there to fit the size of the audience
K. R.
One of the best nights out I've had in a long time tho seats are a little on the small size if it's a packed concerr
P. F.
Good venue, but £6.50 for a pint.........rip off, you should be ashamed!!!
Currently sat in the Botanist, post gig, £4.75 for a pint!!!
L. T.
Beautiful building only fault is the limited leg room. All the staff are really friendly. Would definitely return in future.
R. J.
Great night with Jason Manford. My seat was comfortable though, as it wasn't flat, therefore no support was given under my upper legs.
N. G.
Great old venue, even better with an ace performance by the legendary Michael Schenker.
M. H.
Beautiful old theatre that we have been to many times. This was the 2nd time we had been to see Ross Noble here. Probably won't be the last.
j. m.
Always a good night.really nice venue, bar gets rather crowed before a show but to be expected
D. H.
Just love the City Hall. One of the few genuine music venues with superb acoustics and wonderful atmosphere.
Not the biggest music venue in the city but has the most character . So many legendary bands and artists have performed here and its easy to understand why.
Recent refurbishment post Covid lockdown adds to its resilience, long may it prosper.
V. S.
Went to see Russel Brand here. Easy to get to. Right in city centre. Nice and open. Staff helpful and friendly. Had a wonderful night.
A. B.
Great to be back to see a live show - the Whitney Houston tribute gave us fantastic memories and superb singers and band. The only down side was the audience, some seem to have forgotten how to behave at a live show - talking or shouting during the performance and kept going despite being asked to be quiet, too much alcohol!! We ended up moving seats to the emptier balcony where we could enjoy the show even more. Well done City Hall staff who dealt with the issue and were well organised for entry.
J. M.
As a venue it's fine but if you want a drink at the bar take out a second mortgage.
D. D.
Lovely place but not suitable for a sold out concert, at some point we couldn't even breathe properly.
G. P.
It was brilliant flashback to 1979 STIFF LITTLE FINGERS full album set city hall most iconic venue in the north east.
J. A.
Lindisfarne concert great, but spoiled by drunks. Now that drinks can be taken into auditorium there's a constant stream of people getting up and down to fill their glasses or empty their bladders. Two hammered blokes near us threw a drink down someone's back and were clearly up for a fight. Spoiled the festive atmosphere a little.
M. W.
Enjoyed the show but the seats we booked i couldnt fit my legs in, im over 6ft tall, i had to move to the end isle so i could have my legs at side then i could only see have of stage.
J. S.
Divine Comedy at the City Hall Newcastle just brilliant, if you get a chance to see them rake it you won't be disappointed.:)
P. G.
No leg room between seats. Daughter 5ft 11 and had to sit with legs to the side of her. Got relocated to different seats which was a little better but should be told when booking if space is limited.
J. B.
The venue was good but drinks prices were astronomical nearly £14 for 2 drinks
A. S.
Not so great sitting if you have long legs, just as well as the shows was good 👍.
j. c.
Ages since I've been but still a great, traditional venue tho' mostly tribute bands
D. H.
Excellent venue for live music. Everything about it was spot on. Miles better than Newcastle's academy.
I. M.
Not the best venue, bit pricey at the bar, cramped seating and very slow to empty at the end of a gig compared to other venues
G. P.
I have been going to watch punk groups at this most iconic venue since the 80, it is the to go place in the north east.
S. t.
Great venue but prices of drinks too high at £6.50 a pint
T. M.
Went to see SLF
Had a fantastic night
d. a.
Would have got 5 stars if the the prices at the bar were cheaper, as a venue for live music it is excellent.
I. D.
Expensive but worth it. Sort of hard to navigate at a music event. Beautiful venue and great acoustics.
J. g. w. f.
Good place to watch a gig but wow. 15 quid for a pint and 2 bottles of alch free beer. Robbed
L. C.
Saw James Martin here.Absolutely fabulous. Laughed all the time.He was so natural can't wait to see him again brilliant
M. L.
Love city hall - not too big, but big enough for a good atmosphere. No big screens needed to see what's happening on stage
R. C.
I attended this venue for the first time , and thought there was a better atmosphere than in the O2 Academy .
D. H.
Saw the hollies Saturday night.they were brill.shame about the price of ale's though.abit steep . one Star deducted for that
G. W.
A good venue for live shows, but needs more and better bar areas than the noisy crowded outdated prison that is the downstairs bar.
p.
One of my favourite venues in Newcastle. An historic building with lots of great gigs.
l. r.
Went to see Drag race uk and felt claustrophobic. Could hardly see anything and the seats were terrible
T.
the staff were amazing last night after informing them about my health issues in the middle of seeing gary numan gig 100%helped thank you .
C. W.
Great venue to see a band
R.
You can never tire of seeing bands at the city hall, so many memories of the place. Only downside was the over priced beer downstairs.
C. M.
Great place for a concert. The only problem now is it is standing only downstairs.
D. H.
The Hollies were fab good seats, drinks dear.
H. R.
Fantastic show from The Bootleg Beatles Fabulous sound and lighting Reasonable prices at the bar but the queues at the interval so long We waited 15mins to be served Another bar wouldn't be a bad idea
A. D.
Great venue but be better if there was a standing area
F. M.
Went here to see Keith Urban perform - great experience from start to finish!
A. P.
A great venue for a great concert last Saturday with James Morrison....both brilliant!
m. h.
Great venue for a live band... old school.. love it
L. S.
I was there for Laughs4kids. What fabulous afternoon of comedy I saw. It was a welcome release from worrying about my husband who was in the RVI with pneumonia. The theatre is beautiful and all the staff were great
d. s.
I seen Robert cray last night. He was amazing. The staff were very accommodating. It's a great venue.
J. B.
Good venu. Easy to get to the bar. Me and hubby went to see Gary Numan. Good size venu and staff on site to help.
A. B.
Awesome night at keith urban more intimate great venue friendly staff xx
A. J.
Brilliant gig with Nick Mason et al. New seats not very comfortable!
C. B.
No air con so v warm.
Also bars around the stalls area make it v noisy.
S. B.
Newcastle City Hall, many a good night seeing live music.
Tonight the mighty Level 42.
This venue is the best in town for a band to play at. Forget arenas where you are to far away from the act.
The bar downstairs is massive and no long wait, plenty of drink options.
Lots of staff on hand to help.👍
S. C.
Fantastic sound, great venue. Bar service was really slow, though
B. L.
Still one of the best music venues in the area. A good size so you can see the artists without the need of screen, comfortable seat and good sounds
M. K.
The 2 bands we went to ‘See’ sounded great.
I said ‘sounded’ great because we couldn’t see the band.
If people want to pay for a seat then spend the entire time stood up in front of somebody else, obscuring their view, then stand at the side so other people can see. Very inconsiderate!
Totally put me off going to Live concerts in the future.
Really ruined our experience.
I. B.
Way better than it used to be. No seats. More bars. More like the Academy than the old City Hall. But the sloping floor gives a better view. Very warm once the band started up.
D. C.
Great experience, seats out and standing for concerts is such better.
Bar was limited upstairs, but saved having to queue to ages downstairs. The trade off works. Great evening.
A. R.
Went to see Ross Nobel we ended sitting behind the projector but the manager came and moved up to better seats near the front a great experience
P. C.
Went to see kasabian last night. 6th time but first time in a smaller venue than an arena. Absolutely brilliant. Best yet. Been to the city Hall lots of times over the years going back to Howard Jones and Depeche mode in the 80's. Forgot what a great hall for a gig it is.
k. w.
Best entertainment tonight Dr Hook you were Brilliant. All the staff were really pleasant, love this old Building.
L. S.
The Sir Rod show some guys have all the luck was brilliant.
S. S.
Great venue. Seen so many bands here over 40 years. Strange to see no seats downstairs
R. T.
Leg room leaves something to be desired, unless you're under 5 foot 7 then it's fine.
D. D.
Nice venue, not a bad view from any seat really but the decor is a bit dated
E. P.
Great for shows. Doors usually open snout sn hour before performances. Bar downstairs.
T. M.
I first attended City Hall 44 years ago and its never changed...a theatre of dreams, steeped in rock n roll
R. H.
Great acoustics. A classic venue.
M. C.
First ever visit, great venue you are close to the stage. Will go again to another gig.
A. L.
Good venue but you need to sell your house to afford a drink.
T. P.
What a great venue this is. I much prefer it to huge arenas. You get much closer to the artists. This time saw 'Seven Drunken Nights' story of the Dubliners. Fantastic show. Would highly recommend.
C. A.
Great venue and great to see the gig there I waited on for a year and a half!
D. B.
This is a lovely old venue which is used for music, comedy, plays, musicals and even graduation ceremonies! The staff are really helpful and access in and out was very quick and easy.
Unlike most venues like this, there is a very good view of the stage from all angles and just about everywhere. I was sitting by the side doors on the right hand side of the stalls and my view was unobstructed.
I was very happy with every aspect of my visit yesterday to see Dave Gorman (I went years ago to see The MIghty Boosh) and will keep an eye out for future events.
P. A.
Been going here since late 70s. Always great sound. Since 02 took over, the facilities have been at last upgraded. Great auditorium.
S. M.
Great venue with the seats removed. £6 for a can of Carlsberg though. 🤢
N. D.
Well organised, comfortable seats and you feel closer to the acts than you do at arena venues.
H. K.
The venue is looking lovely but the seats are far too small. Leg room is very restricted, and I'm only 5' 6".
A. J.
Still a great venue to be entertained at . Has a lot of history in its 4 walls . Recent upgrade to bar area which is now more accessible. Just went to see Jack Savoretti and its a perfect size of venue to watch him 👍
S. H.
Good venue, with for once, plenty of ladies toilets!
P. S.
Great venue to see live music. Seats downstairs were removed. The drinks (can bar only in the venue bit) are really expensive for what they are.
D. G.
Loved to see question of sport, venue needs serious update chairs are not comfortable and people are not that size anymore seriously maybe after the war when every one was on rations people are much taller on average and obviously bigger city hall do something
S. I.
Nice venue but the seats arent great for anyone taller than five and a half foot
M. A.
Always a fantastic venue and very pleased to see the latest investment in auditorium seating, toilet facilities and bar area.
J. W.
Bit cramped, no leg room at all. Great concert night went
k. r.
Good venue but drinks are very expensive and had to find my covid pass when I'd had a,drink was not cool
S. A.
It's a great venue; however as it's an old building the seats don't have much leg room.
D. M.
Love the venue even more now that they take the seats out for selected gigs and the introduction of a bottle bar in the concert hall. Minor gripe is that it's always so hot in the place!
G. J.
Another trip to Newcastle and the City Hall, tonight The Human League were fantastic and really worked the crowd. Clean toilets and easy access to fet in and out.
H. C.
Seen Halestorm here was a great gig but with all gig venues the drinks are extortionate
D. K.
Saw Steve Hackett at the O2 City Hall last night 40+ years since I first saw him at the same venue and had a great time.
The atmosphere in the place has never changed just the age of the fans.
To me the City Hall remains the same as my first time in 1979 with a few coats of paint added over the years. It may be small compared to the Utilia Arena but to me packs in more atmosphere and actually being able to see the faces of those on stage even when right at the back instead of watching video screens to make them out. That's why this Newcastle music icon will always have a place in heart and louds of great memories from all the bands I've seen over the years.
If you haven't been before try it for that close up and personal touh which wins all the time in my mind.
T. H.
Really like this venue for live music. It was amazing!!
R. C.
Great atmosphere, good seating, limited drinks at bar.
A. M.
Lovely place but not enough toilets for the size of audience
D. P.
Good venue, refreshments on the expensive side but to he expected. Nice staff.
H. W.
Beautiful venue but they did not impose the Covid rules when I was there, even though they stipulate them on their website!
S. H.
Staff were really helpful.
Hubby is a wheelchair user and I'm not good on my pins they couldn't have been more helpful. Delightful venue will be back up.
A. L.
Fantastic, Keith Urban was excellent and the crowd just wanted to party
M. K.
The venue itself is fine, but the security staff is a little intimidating and strange.
D. W.
Some great bands and solo artists booked, in a venue that holds approx 2000 making it a very intimate performance, bar is overpriced with terrible beer and the seating leaves you doubled up with no leg room, packed in like sardines
M. V.
Really good venue and location. Beer is really expensive mind.
C. N.
Been twice this month to see two bands. Great historical building.
Drinks are far too expensive though else I would put 5 stars
G. B.
Cool venue, old school well laid out and a classic building in Newcastle. Had a great night coming here to see Ant Middleton's show
c.
Was there to watch deacon blue .great venue for small-ish gigs (2.500)? But really nice old place and a bar downstairs what more could you want .😂
J. P.
A nice, if somewhat unremarkable, venue. A good sized bar area downstairs for before the gig and pretty good sound during
O. R.
Brilliant venue. Shame about the bar prices but 10% off the bar prices if you pay with a barclaycard.
I. H.
First time at this venue and really impressed. Top night
p. k.
Fantastic to be back at the City Hall. Years of memories came flooding back. Seen Michael Schenker Group tonight but 1st gig I saw was The Scorpions of which Michael Schenker was lead guitarist back in 1978... Great venue
R. A.
Very good. Not too crowded. Shows are good
A. G.
Great venue for who we seen. Drawbacks - when in a gig the ventilation is so limited, especially in the downstairs bar. Not great when it comes to getting ventilation during a pandemic.
P. B.
It's a classic venue, just don't sit in the stalls at the back.Itd freezing!
G. P.
Nice venue with somewhat over cautious security.
J. B.
Great night at Queen of the night. Very clean . Bar very very busy and very expensive.
Didn't ask to see COVID-19 passport or prof of negative test and they said we didn't need mask on so what was the warning email about 3 days prior
T. T.
Great show bar prices crazy and don't even sell brandy
A. K.
What's not to like. Iconic music venue
G. F.
Good standing venue with balcony for those who want a seat. Medium-sized benue so you can get close to the band.
D. A.
Great venue that hosts even better events. Been here multiple times throughout my life to see a plethora of different bands and shows, and I'm still going back. Staple of the toon.
C. C.
Went to see Frank turner, really nice establishment, had a very theatre like feel. It is all seated so bare that in mind. Seats weren't massive, I'm 6ft 5 and I struggled a bit but anyone under 6'2" will probably be fine. Can't speak to the drinks as I didn't get one but all in all a nice place with a really intimate vibe.
Just wish the seats were a little more roomy.
J. M.
Another great performance by The Human League and a good up and coming support band Ekkoes
e. J.
Great views all round and brilliant sound quality. Even better now with the new seats.
N. K.
Loved it there. Went to see Tim Minchin
I. M.
Awesome venue, perfect for Gary Numan with The Skaparis Orchestra. My only negative is no lift to bar and I am disabled and can't do stairs.
K. R.
Much improved venue but why do they have to massively overcharge captive audiences at the bar I mean £6.65 for a pint of Carling tantamount to theft
D. W.
fantastic placefor gigs, seen the best here over the years ,great atmosphere far better than arena,s
M. C.
Amazing staff and set up, came to see Texas, sharleen didn't disappoint
d. f.
Newcastle City Hall is a really great place to see bands with a really good view of the stage and the sound is amazing. Always a good atmosphere
t. t.
Seen Jimmy carr last night and he was fantastic what a talented man think the city hall could do with a makeover and £6.50 a pint is a bit steep when you think we pay £40 for a ticket not a cheap night
P. A.
Ticket said 7pm start when the act didn't come on till 8pm
L. W.
Great venue. Extortionate prices for drinks. £16.00 for two pints and a water. Always expect a bit more expensive in such venues but this is extreme!
M. S.
Seats are a bit snugg...but great venue
D. L.
Cold.Everyone sat with coats on.When people are standing up dancing people who can't stand all the time or not at all can't see a thing!
k. g.
New seating since last time here. Jimmy Carr outrageously funny. Still massive queues to get a drink or use the toilets at the break as usual
J. R.
This is a great venue! I've been several times both as performer and audience member. Perhaps not the best back stage facilities/mod-cons but absolutely no bother with that side of things overall.
As a paying punter the hall sounds good and many a major name has graced this stage. The bar gets rammed as expected, so if you can, leg it to the boozers next door and fire a turbo interval pint down. You need to be quick mind.
I'm not impressed (absolutely nobody is) with the 'handling fee' you must pay when buying tickets online. Absolute garbage. However, the e-ticket option is fast and convenient and the staff ship you in in double time. No messing about. In many ways The Sage destroys this hall hands down, but there is still a great deal to enjoy when you pay a visit here.
J. G.
Loved the Gratson Perry Show. Rather disappointed that when the tickets came through 7 days before event vis email it didnt mention bringing vacination cert with you. Couldnt get mine on line (in fact forgot the password) so had to take lateral flow test. First test I've done. No real help, thankfully fellow eventer could help
A. T.
Have not been there since the 90s all the old memories flooded back great place and great for concerts loved every moment I was there
V. S.
Show was good but feel like everyone's crammed in like sardines here, not much room between seats made even worse with no cloak room at the time of writing. You also have to have proof of a negative covid test before they let you in or proof that your double jabbed.
D. C.
Good venue but the seats are in line so if you have someone tall in front of you, your view is obstructed!
D. H.
Lovely historic building. Seats are rather cramped and toilets are very shabby with no running water.
D. M.
Took my wife to see UB40 as part of her birthday present....music excellent throughout evening.... however....think it's amiss to let patrons bring drinks into the auditorium....several worse the wear...some being downright stupid....in my view there is plenty of time to have a drink prior to the gig starting, either at the venue or at the many bars within walking distance of the City Hall. We still had a wonderful time....the venue, itself, is excellent and the acoustics superb....sorry to be a tad negative.
l. h.
Enjoyed Paul Weller gig with my husband.
p. m.
Billy Ocean fantastic, went to bar missed 2 songs, ,lager flat as sheep dip and not cheap, ,when I got back from the bar ,2 Jackie's in our seats, wouldn't get out of them, security stood like lemons, eventually they did manage to remove the squatters ,who by the way had done the same thing to several members of the audiance, we got our seats back, the security team ,then stand in the middle isle blocking my view ,asked them if the could move ,reply was they had to stand there ,so had a great view of Billy's backing singers,Billy Ocean fantastic stage presence ,voice amazing,
Good place to see your chosen artists, couple o things on the night, spoilt our experience, would go back, maybe in balcony to avoid the view of a security man stood in front of me all night.
P. S.
The venue's great, shame about the covid passport-like entry requirements. Thankfully they didn't take a pound of flesh as well...
N. B.
Great atmosphere,staff very helpful
M. R.
Ridiculously expensive for drinks, no need... toilets are tiny too
J. J.
The City Hall staff made it easy to get in and get to the seat despite the potential complications of Covid. Michael Bolton and the atmosphere from the crowd made it an excellent night that just flew over.
t.
Amazing with the seating removed and the sound is outstanding 👌🏼
J. S.
This is a brilliant little venue. We came to see a band perform here, and the acoustics were fantastic. It was large enough to feel like a “proper” gig, but also small enough to give us an intimate experience. The only complaint we have is it can be tricky to see the whole of the stage from certain seats, but that’s par for the course with most theatres (and is also helpfully reflected in the ticket price).
M. J.
We were there on a hot night and nearly died from lack of air. A bit less comfortable than newer venues but that's outweighed by the beautiful building
J. H.
Tom Odell. Bloody amazing! What a performer. Such passion. A+++++++++
K. “. s.
I can only describe this as a strange venue. I visited Saturday to see Paul Smith. The queues to get in were big, but the bar queues were astronomical!!! A warm can or carlsberg was £5.25. If you got water you weren't allowed a lid and the seats were uncomfortable.
Overall it was a great night but the venue didn't contribute to that although it was pretty.
c. h.
Love the City Hall, but be warned there isn't a lot of space in the seats ... and it can get very warm!
G. J.
Delightful experience...even though.the queue was way round the block due to covid checks we were amazed at how efficiently and quickly we made our seats
..and Q of S was just 10/10
C. F.
Theatre itself is nice but not sure about some other things. Some people sat around us had certainly had too much to drink and the security stood in the aisles. We go to the theatre a fair bit and not used to this. Bars are usually only open before and at the interval of a show and used to having discreet ushers. Also didn't expect to have my bag searched and seeing other people patted down.
D. M.
Nice venue , compact , good view from any seat
H. D.
Enjoyed the show and the city hall, but drinks are very expensive
T. M.
No beer during performance.
Might seem a little... but. Hey..
D. H.
The cider is far too expensive. Nearly £12 for two cans. Great venue and sound.
J. A.
Loved the new look City Hall, with ground floor standing
Brilliant
R. r. 1.
Fantastic theatre like venue having great acoustics. Very small (can seat 2000) for that up close and personal gig
Opened between the two world wars (1927) it’s since gone from council to private ownership
J. W.
Really good intimate venue. Fabulous
R. S.
Saw the Human League here. The best music venue in Newcastle. The arena is too vast. The city hall is small but great for seeing bands etc wherever you are sitting. Small bar which is always busy. Great atmosphere every time.
S. K.
Brilliant night.. Sam fender live 👌
m. g.
Love the city hall. loved the show. Didn't love the drunken middle aged women
P. D.
Great venue....just dont drink there (£6.75 pint) go to the five swans round the corner....
e. d.
Love this place, just big enough for my liking, friendly staff. Great for a more intimate atmosphere, will certainly go again
h. s.
Very well organised and safe (you need to provide a valid covid pass to get it) really friendly staff but bar was a bit pricey. Def would recommend tho
A. W.
Sound was good, can't wait to get a ticket for the stalls now there is no seating downstairs.
R. S.
Legendary venue for good reason. Now with all the standing room downstairs the gig-going experience is taken to another level.
S. B.
Me & my partner had a fantastic night seeing Michael Bolton. Our first gig back since February 2020!
J. R.
Act was great, Jasper Carrott as well as the band supporting.
Although the venue is a reasonable size, the seats are very small and packed in closely to one another. Being small, I found this barely acceptable so for larger people this most certainly will cause problems.
The toilet facilities were also poor, with the bulk being in the bar area. Two additional toilets were found on the landing, but this is in one small room.
The bar is OK with prices reflecting that of a concert hall.
Would I return? Well the act would have to be decent, and I'd have to be unable to find a closer location.
Not bad, but certainly not great.
M. L.
Great concert spoilt by too many drunken people, standing up so no one could see, spilling drinks allover, talking and shouting throughout the whole time the performer was on, felt sorry for the staff trying to keep order for everyone to enjoy the concert, don't think I'll return to this venue much unless they put something in place to control the disruptive people
M. J.
Great place took my boys for the first time to see astronaut Tom Peake they loved it . Great venue and close to buses and car parks 👌
R. W.
Canny crowded but comfy seating areas.
Reasonable prices for a gig venue
J. J.
Great venue just too warm no air con switched, couple hundred people in there and it soon gets hot
R. E.
Just seen steve hacket play to a packed hall with everyone ushered in and out with no fuss by professional people that know there job. Well done brilliant night.
k. p.
Awesome gig, Halestorm were unbelievable !
S. M.
It's a shame this venue is so cramped, because the acoustics are great. However, the seats are so tightly packed that it's impossible for anyone of average size to be comfortable for the duration of any show. Goodness knows how tall or plus size people manage!
G. R.
One of the nicest pizza I've had in a restaurant in the UK and I'm a fussy Italian who loves pizza, pleasant surroundings and friendly service
A. M.
Easy to get to. If you're going to use the bar take cash as they don't always take cards. On cold nights if you're sitting in the stalls towards the back you'll need to wear something warm as the doors are constantly being opened by people going to the loo or the bar during the show! But the venue itself is really good.
A. F.
Not what it was but still the best concert venue in town with perfect acoustics.
J. S.
The queue to get in (due to people not having covid passports ready) was wrapped around the block. However, the queue moved very fast and meant that the bar and toilet queues were stretched and smaller than usual.
N. I.
Nice venue in a good location, very easy to get to from the town centre. Went to a show with seats and they were very closely packed together, making it a bit uncomfortable. Lots of different types of shows/events on throughout the year so lots of choices, something for everyone.
E. W. D.
Love it. Witnessed some of the greatest bands in the world
J. R.
Went to see Roy Chubby Brown. Chubby was great. Staff were helpful & respectful.
S. M.
Friendly staff, very helpful. Great experience
P. C.
Love this venue more for fond memories of the wonderful bands I've seen. Staff incredibly helpful with a member of my party with physical problem but not enough bar staff means you either have to get in 2 hours before the show starts or stress about getting a preshow drink or missing the start of the show. Access not great, seats not wonderful but the memories wonderful
D. M.
Been going for years and look forward to many more. Excellent music venue
A. S.
Great show Billy ocean and band . Ques for the bar absolute disaster people allowed to push in security and bar staff allowed this and drink prices astronomical through the roof.
M. F.
Ive been here twice and it is a really nice theatre. Ive never seen a play here only drag queen shows but its still nice none the less. But be fore warned that they dont allow you to bring your drink or snacks in
T. T. J.
Excellent venue. Much, much better than the arena for sound, and much better for visuals. Knocked one star off for ludicrous drinks prices, would've only taken half a star but can't do that 😃
Overall still very good, and my preferred venue.
K. B.
Very helpful staff. Just a shame the bars shut early or we had to stay in bar area after a certain time with drink when the gig was on till 11pm.
P. W.
Great small venue for gigs only down side is drinks are little expensive
M. N.
The seating can be awkward here, not all seats face the stage, particularly on the balcony. But there aren't very many obstructed views anymore now that they removed the columns from the stalls area. We've seen a couple if shows here, audio is pretty good. And from the stalls you're out in no time at the end of the show.
M. N.
Fantastic old building, love the decor, been to a few gigs here, right in the centre of Newcastle, not a huge venue, but, just right, good facilities, looking forward to going again sometime soon
l. s.
Pretty good venue ,just a nice size so that you get a decent view of the stage looked like a nice bar area toilets down a few flights of stairs if you are sat in the balconies, about 15 minute walk from train station.
S. D.
Finally, they got some new seats in the stalls !!!
Excellent concert by Deacon Blue last night
M.
Situated within walking distance of car park, was clean with seat that had plenty room. Staff were friendly drinks bit expensive but that's normal for theatres. Long queues for loo as normal x
D. E.
Good venue. The Neil Diamond Tribute band was excellent. Nice to see good musicians, violinists, chelo, drums, keyboard and brass section. Would definitely watch again.
Pity about the audience who would get up to buy drinks part way through the performance disturbing not only the people in their row, but also the people behind. Person in front of us kept filming the show, and also twice put his torch on his phone to search for something! So inconsiderate.
A. D.
No leg room in side balcony therefore a very uncomfortable experience. Toilets need updating as there are too many stairs to go up and down if your mobility isn't too good! Used to love going as it's a better experience than the larger venues but probably wouldn't go back now as mobility not suited to this venue
M. R.
Classic city centre venue that has hosted everyone who is anyone in music, comedy and entertainment in the last 5 decades. Basement bar is very busy but essential at show time, toilets have had a long overdue refurb downstairs. Sound in the auditorium is a bit iffy at the back under the balcony. O actually prefer upstairs due to superior view and audio.
C. J.
This venue is run by the best people! I worked here with a touring production, and everyone we encountered ... Security/front of house/tech team were first class! Professional, friendly, helpful and useful - a thoroughly positive experience for all users 👍👍👍
S. C.
Fantastic night at the jack savoretti concert
M. R.
Great place. Good view and sound. The only problem is the wait at the bar. 30 minutes to get served and that was with all told open. No option to pre order drinks for interval but there was someone selling drinks in cans or bottles and card only but didn't know what they were selling.
J. S.
Went to Laughs 4 kids. Great night. One of the better organised venues in Newcastle.
A. H.
Jimmy Carr was brilliant! Shame the seats were small and cramped! Pretty limited bar too!
A. F.
Lovely old entertainment hall.
The seating is not suitable for some people quite uncomfortable as very narrow and low.
We couldn't see the show a lot of the time as late arrivers were allowed to be shown to their seats well after the show
Commenced . People were getting up and down for drinks throughout and it was annoying if you want to have drinks throughout the show go and sit in the bar or at the back.
I. P.
Very professional without the staff intruding on your night out.
J. R.
Love the shows Soul Legends tonight fantastic but I was stood up dancing in my little space where I was sitting like lots of people , also people were dancing in the aisles loads of them some drunk one trying to climb on stage and security asked me to keep my right foot back in my seat space was laughable !! Ridiculous have some common sense, Understand health & safety but they are so over the top spoils the atmosphere..
N. B.
Really lovely staff nice venue
P. P.
Excellent venue. Even better when seating downstairs is removed.
s. c.
1st time here to see the johnny cash road show and loved it. it has a lovely feel and good atmosphere about it. some seats are a little short for leg room so id always check b4 booking futre tickets. overall though a good place to see a show/act
J. W.
We seen the 80s band here and it was fantastic.
d. n.
Great venue, something special about the city hall. Plenty of parking if you look around but too many bus lanes and cameras so be careful.
L. F.
Great venue for comedy (been many times but always comedy we've seen). Sat in stalls and balcony in various positions and it's a great view wherever you are. Only downside is big toilet queue during interval (even the mens).
M. T.
Went to see the comedian Paul Smith, queues for the bar were ridiculous so I gave up. But it seems unlike many venues they allow people to enter after the shows started, so there were constantly people getting up to go to the bar or coming back from the bar during the event which was a huge distraction. Seating was par for the course, very cramped and uncomfortable but that's no different to any other venue.
P. V.
Fantastic night.
A. W.
Super staff team . Good safety protocol . Awesome show
L. B.
Its a pretty small venue and you really have to make sure of the seating plan before you book tickets. Went to see kevin Bridges the comedian but only heard him as our view was pretty restricted. The bar is pretty expensive so take out a loan before you go or get your drink in the bars before you go.
V. C.
Recently went to see the lighthouse family. Whilst there the seating wasnt as good as we expected since my dad is disabled it was a bit awkward for him to sit in the seats provided and even more awkward for him to try and stand back up to let someone out. I asked if we could get him a proper chair to sit on at the side and couldn't have asked for better response from the staff who immediately sorted us out with 3 chairs to sit at the back away from others leaving my dad with plenty of space to move and stand up easier. Let alone the manage who was constantly checking on him to see if he was ok.
M. B.
Nice small venue, however bring money as there are no card transactions in the bar. Typical of most theatres the leg room is atrocious, be prepared for some discomfort! However staff are friendly and helpful, and the venue is clean and tidy.
C. F.
Excellent night of comedy. My only complaint was the lack of leg room in our seats. We were sitting on the balcony in the central section and I had to sit sideways during the whole performance. I am quite tall 5"7 but not unusually tall. There were a lot of uncomfortable people sitting near us. I have never had this problem before at the City Hall.
D. A.
Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters, 24th November 2017 City Hall, great stuff Great musicians and Robert as good as ever . We were in the middle balcony ,had a good view, sound was decent with a good atmos .5 stars so far . Unfortunately, the evening was marred by very cramped seating and no air con ,not what concert goers expect in 2017, especially at 2017 prices !.£61on this occasion. We were glad when the encore came, not because the gig was coming to an end but because the audience stood up. Funny that, paid for a seat but were more comfortable standing ! I know funds are low but come on City Hall ,please do something about that very cramped seating.
M. W.
This is a great venue. Just about every important popular artist and band have appeared here. The first ones I saw were The Beatles in 1964. I had to queue up all night with my sleeping-bag, but I managed to score with a girl. The ticket price was 15 shillings and I got 4 tickets. I saw The Rolling Stones not long after and had to queue up again. Once again I scored with a girl and got a ticket for 15 shillings. In the 1970s I saw Pink Floyd, they played the whole of the Dark Side of the Moon album. It holds 3,500 people if some sit on the stage. There was that many when Reinhard Bonnke the evangelist appeared in 1986. The concert bar is an interesting place to have a drink. I used to go there sometimes during my lunch hour when I was at University. The bar and passage is crammed with framed pictures and memorabilia of just about every top artist you can think of. I have some very happy memories attached to this buiding.
J. M.
Beautiful building but as it is old, the rows of seats are quite close together so even those of medium height struggled for legroom. As ever, huge queues for the ladies but even saw one for the gents which is unusual. Biggest bugbear was paying £6.80 for 2 half litres bottles of water. That is seriously taking the piss!! But Eddie Izzard was fab, as ever.
D. O.
Awesome music and fantastic energy with Jools Holland's Rhythm and Blues band.
S. F.
Fantastic venue
C. A.
Seating is cramped. No lift. Friendly, helpful staff. Great acoustics.
C. E.
Desperately needs air conditioning as it was unbelievably hot yesterday in the hall
Security guards seemed to want to spoil the whole reason you go to a gig and stop any body from from enjoying the experience.
On a positive note the acoustic are excellent and the city hall is a great venue with plenty of music history behind it.
G. H.
A very historic venue. I've never had a bad night at the venue. It has a great feel and I've always found great sound quality. Some fond memories of great bands.
L. R.
Could not fault it!
S. S.
I am disabled and I'm in a wheelchair but I have never had any problems with my chair at this venue. There are plenty of spaces for people in wheelchairs next to the other seats in the main hall. Getting in and out of the venue is very quick and easy as well and there are disabled toilets not too far away either. If you're in a wheelchair then you will be able to get in to this venue easily.
L. W.
Great atmosphere 👌 love it here 😊
J. B.
Bar was small, and very crowded. The seats were just as small. My arse could barely fit in them. Views from the side balcony is pretty bad and even though we were on the 2nd row we had our view obstructed by a small woman in front of us. I’d go again but wouldn’t go on the side balcony, either the floor or top middle balcony.
G. F.
Great venue for bands. Old fashioned seated music venue with a history of famous bands from the 60s to the present day. Revamped bar arena, drinking allowed in the auditorium, great acoustics and great ambience.
N. M.
Great place to go for a great show. I've been going there for a few years and the decor is mostly the same. Maybe a little dated but once the lights are down and enjoying the show it's all good.
E. C.
Amazing night love this venue
A. R.
Great concerts and facilities
J. T.
Friendly and polite staff: great covid safe measures and good beer. What’s not to love?!
K. P.
Nice venue but the heat was ridiculous. Many, including myself, were unbearably hot! :(
R. “. J.
For the amount of people where, 2,000 I believe the bar and the toilets moved along quite well. I had plently of tume in the interval of the show to go to both. Seats a bit of a squeeze and couldn't see all of the stage from where I was sat but I also bought the cheep tickets.
Y. S.
Il divo - what a show! City hall is a pretty decent venue for different types of entertainment. Good acoustics. Seats a bit hard and uncomfortable but...if you're enjoying the show you forget.
J. H.
Love new upstairs bar and toilets

This has a lovely main auditorium with great character to it. That said, some parts look a bit tired maybe. The bar has generic beers at the bar, both in fridge and on tap. Honkers is as adventurous as they get. The queue for the only girls toilet was massive at the interval, but it did go down quickly. No such problems for boys of course!

Fantastic atmosphere for live music, extra helpful staff is you use a wheelchair just hope people in front don't stand though! As long as Lindisfarne okay Christmas gigs I'll return.

The seats are crammed together with no leg room at all (I'm only 5'5) as the seat in front comes right upto your knees. We sat on the balcony (row L) and it is not vert steep so if there is a tall person in front of you, you won't see a thing! I did not use the bar but it was packed with not alot of room to manoeuvre to the bathroom. Make sure you look at the plan of the theatre, I think row G on the balcony would be best in terms of leg room and being able to see over people's heads.
It is however very clean!

Great sound, pricy drinks

I've seen 5 groups at the Newcastle City Hall. I've seen Paul Weller Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Stereophonics and it's a top venue and the fact it's an old school venue of exactly the right size and shape. The music floods over you. So much better than big concert hall venues.

Great show with the comedian John Bishop. He had us all laughing and clapping. First time we've seen him live. But would go again. Support act was comedian Jason Cook. Local to the north east very good.

Great atmosphere, good acoustics, but the lack of legroom is a massive drawback. I'm 5' 10" and could barely move, knees jammed up against the seat in front of me. Poor, given the prices they charge for tickets. Also, the gents is like a swimming pool, more water on the floor than in the toilets!

Great venue as stage is visable so no screen needed like some of the larger places drinks were a bit pricey 2 2pint largers and a 2pint cocktail £36 but worth getting so you dont need to keep queueing for 20 minutes each time

The best concert venue I've ever been to, keep going back and it never disappoints. It's old, quirky, the stage is high and there's a huge ornate organ. Its brilliant!!

Cracking old venue, some of entertainments finest have graced those hallowed boards. Seats are a bit cramped if you're 6ft + so book an end of row seat for that bit extra legroom.

Thank you so much for organising an interpreter for my daughter to see Ant Middleton. It was brilliant. The staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough for us. She thoroughly enjoyed the show. Cannot thank you all enough.

Absolutely amazing night watching fast love. Staff great. No problems at all.

Cold, and tickets didn't state doors open at 6.30 so we sat until 8.15 till show started.

Still a great venue and I personally think better without the seating.

We were sat downstairs at the back of the hall for the Kevin Bridges show.
Was VERY VERY warm! The seats are very tight and deffinitley NOT the comfiest!
Also, the bar queues were so bad that people had to queue for 30mins and then be told the act was about to start so they couldn't take their drinks in. This was extended for 2mins due to Kevin allowing it!
The bar area looked amazing and new, same goes for the toilets... really nice!
The staff were brilliant... especially the American/Canadian doorman!
Overall a brilliant place!

Saw dara O briain live here. Brilliant show, really enjoyed it. The hall is a smaller venue but it is well equipped and I think it was better than being in a huge arena. Will definitely return at some point. Would love to see a band here.

Small enough to get a great seat wherever your seat is. This place has a lovely shape for sound to reverberate to every crevis too. The staff are also concious of the times we live in and check anything thats goung in with you. This is done very profesionally which keep the crowds moving swiftly in doors. Well done staff

Fab venue ( not too big) loads of loos and quick service at the bar. Please note you cannot stand or dance on the first row of the balcony. Concert was double bubble Midge Ure and Human League.

Love the City Hall. Every seat has a great view. Great atmosphere.

Too many seats crammed into too small a space. Only a midget could be comfortable with the lack of leg room. Wont be back. Shame really as a gorgeous venue for live music. Just not worth the cramped conditions.
