First time at this venue. I had heard negative reports due to the physical layout i.e. where the bar is situated on the ground floor. If there had been a full capacity crowd for Bob Mould last night, then I would have to agree that the bar is in the wrong position, from a punter's perspective.
The sound was good, staff were as friendly as can be expected. I'd say the location was great but as you are inside it doesn't really matter.
A. D.
Pretty intimate venue but don't expect to get served quickly! 25mins - just for a Coke too!
This was gig night so not sure what it's like during ordinary evenings.
S. R. F.
What a venue, we were here for Steven and karens chava chuunes cash for kids. Brilliant night out. Amazing sound in a small venue and the atmosphere was fantastic.
P. B.
Bar service was very slow at the start/middle of the night, waited 25 minutes for a warm can of red stripe upstairs. Improved later on, and the beer downstairs was much better. Staff were friendly, sound was pretty good, good night overall
S. T.
Venue is run down since sea nightclub days and has woodchip now all over. However that's what makes it good as its a bit more rough and ready and better for listening to gigs
M. T.
The layout of the place feels like it was just thrown together. The bar too close to the merch stand, which is too close to the sound engineers area. This creates a bottleneck if you need to go upstairs to the toilet or for a better view of the band. Stage area is well set up, you get a good view of each band member so you can fully enjoy the gig.
V. M.
Brill venue except for the poor bar.not much draught choice n too few staff
L. C.
Went to bounce on Fri was supposed to start 10 didn't open doors till 11 didn't get in till 1145 freezing cold inside, colder than outside! Drinks were crazy priced and different price each time we went to bar
Night was amazing but chucked us out at 3 when we bought tickets it was advertised 10-4 basically feel bit ripped of for £22.50 .
Overall good venue but stick the heaton on please.
m. x.
it was okay, permanently damaged my hearing though, prices of drinks are absolutely ridiculous, 6 quid i think for a pint; I ordered a shot of sourz and the bartender filled it halfway ,bare in mind the plastic shot glasses and tiny, he said he didn’t want it to spill and charged me £2.50. Toilets are absolutely disgraceful, i couldn’t see anything; they are disgusting, no toilet paper, only a few work so the queues were out the door, actually reeked. Safe to say i won’t be back. No problem from the bands playing they were fab!
C. M.
Great place for to see new bands. Not much good though if you are in a wheelchair as there is no place for them. Wheelchair users would just be on the floor with everyone else standing, so you wouldn't see anything.
I.
Excellent atmosphere well set out friendly staff
g. s.
Great little venue to watch Monster Truck and those dam crows. My main point of note though would be a raised jutting step that protruded in to the main hall area, just in front of where the sound guy was set up. I honestly lost count of the amount of people who tripped over it and me and me mate must've caught hold of at least 2 or 3 people as they went flying. It either needs marking up brightly with lights or even better removing completely. It's just a matter of time till someone injures themselves and sticks a claim in against the venue. Other than that, I loved the place. 😁👍💙
G. W.
This is usually a cracking venue, it was bloody freezing inside!. There was no draft beer or lager, just over priced bottles poured into cheap plastic glasses, this added to waiting time at the bars. No cash taken (ok, most places are starting this), The staff did their best. Toilets were not the best..
M. O.
But it was baltic on Thursday Liam Fender concert. I'm guessing it's not heated.. It's probably too expensive to heat, but somewhat took the pleasure out of the evening. Don't arrive early in winter months go somewhere else for a drink / chat with friends. I was cold despite having three layers on, s scarf and heavy boots.
R. L.
Great small venue with some amazing bands, many from my era so great to get close up, love the place can't say a bad thing as a venue
M. N.
Great little venue, view of the stage very good and 5 quid a pint! Happy days, hope to come back.
w. b.
Excellent venue. Sound is really good. Went twice in a week , both nights equally as good. Plenty bars if you want a drink. Can see the stage from anywhere, small balcony area with bar too.
R. B.
No soft drinks other than bottled water was pretty disappointing. The floor was sticky before anything started. Staff are great & the sound was good though. Just hire a cleaner, eh?
J. B.
Lush little venue for gigs. Up close and personal. Bar not badly priced either.
R. B.
Lush venue honestly, you’d think it would be dodgy but nah, to the security guard that took a pic of the set list for me you are a G I love you. There’s a big shiny cool disco ball, a good bar, a beautiful neon sign and at the gig I was at the crowd was mental so always adds to the experience. Defo would go back.
S. H.
Popular place for all ages, place looks like a massive pop up bar with classier festival toliets, right on the waterfront, lovely views, lager in plastic tumblers due to covid
K. R.
Seen Astroid Boys live here March 2018, lovely little venue overlooking the river. Sound quality is brilliant and stage lights looked great. Downfall is that the card machine only accepted payments over a certain amount meaning you had to buy more than one drink at a time which was awkward to carry around while trying to enjoy the music as well. However still a nice venue and would definitely return. Parking is limited for this venue as well which was a little tricky so getting there early is important if you want to get parked!
C. M.
Great venue, one of the best in Newcastle. The balcony has limited viewing area of the stage, so stay downstairs if you want to get a good spot for a band.
S. T.
Great little venue, we came from York to a gig and it was easy to get to and free parking, ifcthetes space left.
S. D.
Great little venue, although whoever was responsible for promoting... Or failing to promote the Combichrist gig earlier this month should be ashamed of themself!!!
S. C.
On the one hand this is a very cool venue, you can get nice and close to the stage and the whole vibe is excellent. On the other hand you stick to the floor and the management throw the band (Magic Numbers) off stage at 10.15pm as there is a club night on after the concert. Really should have let the band finish !
M. V.
A great place to see live music, large enough to get a good crowd in yet it still feels intimate like a smaller venue.
p. a.
A really good proper gig venue.
H. A.
Plywood seats !! And flooring to the upstairs floor ... NO WINE ??? limited selection of drinks .... I must be getting old lol
K.
Great city apart from "for your eyes only" venue absolute sham of a club
R. B.
Fantastic little venue. Went there for a wrestling show and it worked well. The drinks where cheep and the staff where helpful.
J. T.
Great venue but far too packed for future heads gig
C. G.
I went here for a concert. The sound was good. The place has two levels so you can see a concert from a balcony. The toilets were awful...
A. P. P.
When to the 2000s party sober. A very cool venue. The venue was filled and the atmosphere was bouncing. Will visit again! Was able to park right outside for free.
J. D.
Very good venue
Good parking near 👍 …
R. D.
Amazing gig, Twin Atlantic killed it as always, venue is lovely 💕 …
P. J.
Great gig venue, never too far away from the stage even when away from the main crowd.
S. C.
A great place for a relaxing stroll and a coffee or wine.
P. W.
Good venue. Long walk to toilets and they aren't the best and definitely more bar staff needed according to numbers.
O. R.
Great venue but didn't have the ale taps on and even ran out of lager by 9-30
K. S.
Intimate venue great for getting up close to your favourite artists. Beware though, the floor is very sticky, if you fall, you'll loose clothing or skin!
P.
Great venue for music. Take a deep breath before you use the toilets though.
C. T.
I was in the R2 a small upstairs bar venue. That said the sound was excellent and suitability loud enough for a Heavy Metal (Thrash) gig. I had a bottle of cider that was reasonably priced. A pleasant evening. I will go back should I be in the area again and there is a suitable band playing. Maybe in R1 if I'm lucky!
K. R.
Very comfortable, central location, food is very good. Staff all very helpful and friendly.
M.
Great small venue for bands !
Y. R.
First time at this venue. Great place for gigs, nice big stage, good views from everywhere , has a balcony running down one side which is the best place if you can get a spot like we were lucky enough to. Bars upstairs and downstairs, decent range of beers, not too expensive, small seating area to the rear near the merch stand. Really liked the place, looking forward to going back 🤘🏻👌🏻👍🏻
D. H.
Great venue, though £5 a pint
K. R.
Great music venue, but the sticky floor makes it harder to dance. Not many people wore masks or bothered about distancing.
M. E.
First time there the other week (amazingly). Great venue. I don't drink and it was a solo jaunt; free soda water is always a good sign. Nice balcony upstairs for those of us too old for the mosh pit. Space at the back for those of us who are tall, old and like to lean. Great location down on the Quayside too, nr the swing bridge
d. m.
Great sound and lighting on every occasion I've seen a live band. Door staff were helpful and respectful. Nice choice of viewpoints for gigs, balcony, rear of crowd to mosh pit. Also near some nice quayside pubs for pre and post gig drinks.
J. C.
Great venue, the sound guys were spot on and drink not over-priced 👍 …
H. R.
Good venue for real live music
W. O.
Had a great time for my first trip out of lockdown and some good laughs with friends. Service Great and drinks on draught were decent. However the outdoor seats were uncomfortable.
D. B.
This is a great venue with a reasonable sized space including a balcony area. Sound quality was good and the bands were fantastic. Drinks are not cheap but also not ridiculous.
A. S.
One of Newcastle's larger music venues (and clubs), it has a good sounding PA and good looking lighting set-up. From the floor, you get a good view of the stage, however, if it's a sell-out, it can be a bit of a tight squeeze.
The bar could be better, stocking up on the usual luke-warm cans you see in other bars, helpfully poured into a plastic cup.
B. M.
Good venue great bands, bar shut at 9.55 so get your drinks in early! Heather Findlay and Hughes Taylor on 15 Jan 2020. Two great bands, look out for them next time.
M. R.
It grows on me every time I go. It's a great venue. Steve Mason tonight. Excellent.
L. W.
Excellent venue for music.
Small capacity makes for a great gig.
Handy location for car parking too.
M. M.
Great venue, toilets not so great. Live music brilliant - Red Rum Club give them a listen.
N. R.
Absolutely stunning venue. Love how they've modified their clientele and style, saw Romare and Dan Shake here and the venue blew my mind at how perfect the lights, room sizes, club layout were. Can't wait to go back
P. L.
Needs some work done on it as getting tatty at the edges but still a great venue for gigs.
S. R.
Great for concerts so I guess the star rating depends on the bands
J. G.
This place is great for music but when i visited they ran out of certain drink and need to sort toilets out upstairs!
R. D.
Went here for the first time for pressure vs sopranos, absolute beauty of a night and a smashing venue, definitely recommend 😎💣🙌 …
M. B.
Absolutely fantastic live music venue, 5 minutes walk from the station. I've been to Riverside in its hay-day, it wasn't nice. But several years have passed and what to me is a newly done out interior make for a fantastic music venue with balcony. Sound was fantastic. My only gripe is lack of nice beer, it's 2018 let's have something other than Red Strip and the other famous 4 on tap. Only reason why not 5 star.
L. K.
Brilliant venue for live music. Had a great day/night.
J. M.
Nice venue for smaller gigs. Downside is the 10.00 curfew, the sticky floor in front of the stage and the dingy toilets!
P. J. W.
As music venues go, it's better than most!
P. C.
Excellent, the old riverside was dingy and dirt the ideal venue for bands like mega city four and therapy. Sadly that's gone replaced with a newer cleaner venue. Small queue to get in great sound. Would recommend this place.
S. S.
Small venue but great atmosphere. Got there early and stood upstairs on the balcony as it got very crowded downstairs.
S. R.
Decent venue, first visit and not too much to complain about.
B. E.
Excellent live music venue.
D. P.
Watched Sleeper. Gig was fantastic and the review is about the venue. So it was lots of areas to see the band, there was one bar open. Toilets we're functional but not anything special.
S. N.
Has reopened but with COVID it is now only an outdoor bar. It has had a good makeover and is a nice place to visit! Very well done and it serves Camden hells beer. Winner
v. j.
Loved the seating area with the fire pits and a beautiful view. Very well organised with table service and contact less payment. We will definitely be returning soon.
A. M.
Great Band, lots of people, not good when you're short. But sounded great.
M. S.
Great gig venue! Great selection of ales!
I. M.
Nice venue and easy to get to from the train station (10 min walk). We've been to a death metal concert in this venue and the acoustics was really nice and enjoyabe.
S. C.
I was a regular feature at the old Riverside new venue just isn't the same having said that it's a great venue all the same been there a dozen times or so good sound good views OK beer.
With this Think Tank and Boilershop live music thrives once again in Newcastle
G. K.
Great gig venue 😎🎶 …
N. A.
Went there to do photography stuff for the performers. Atmosphere was great. Drinks were decent, bartenders were friendly. Overall a great place to spend time.
A. k.
Benches were uncomfy but the set up was great and what a great atmosphere to watch the footie 👌 staff were polite and drinks came out fast …
T. A.
Nice views. Just need a good management or renovation. The pub has a great potential to attract people
A. P.
Wonderful little gem hidden away. Menu is sparse for now but what you get is always well made. The staff are from the local college and all have some sort of learning disability. I thoroughly recommend it
B. W.
Nice little venue. I've seen a few people mention drinks prices. A bottle of Desperado was £4.20. Decent choice of drinks for a small bar.
C. R.
Big and located nicely opposite the river of the Hilton hotel.
Parking does charge however.
Lighting is great and the venue even has a balcony to make more space for guests
M. A.
Strange venue for a band the size of the wildhearts. Far too small but since the Mayfair went this is the best rock venue in Newcastle. Beer on tap is garbage but they have some decent, expensive, cans in.
J. H.
1994 was the last time I visited this small concert hall, but had a great time watching the drummer from Queen trying to deafen me. Heading back in December, hope they've got rid of all the black interior.
D. P.
Good venue. Over zealous fans. Just because the band is playing acoustic doesn't mean that everyone has to be silent! Be cool people and enjoy.
D. H.
Small gig venue on Newcastle quayside. Nice venue with friendly staff.
m. s.
Great venue - great band!
B. B.
I'd only go here to see bands I love. Decent sound system and nice intimate size for watching a band but a bit of a dive and over priced drinks. Like a small O2 Academy.
a. g.
Nice concerts place. Quiet confined in some places for a nightclub event
J. J.
Authentic pub with great selection of beers and splendid views of the City and river Tyne
K. W.
Was an ok night, some of the clientele where not particularly friendly. It seemed someone wanted to start a fight with me which was a little irritating. This hasn't happened at other clubs I've visited so I can't say Riverside attracts a great crowd
A. M.
Went to see ugly kid joe, it was absolutely fantastic and the staff couldn't help us enough. Great atmosphere, great staff, great venue and to top it off I got a pic with the lead singer
Would recommend this place to anyone .
u.
Small & intimate venue, really good sound system, drinks a bit pricey but that's normal for live music venue's.
C. W.
Great to see that Sea has opened a beer garden, you can also get food from there. Great to sit by the river and have a cold pint.
T. B.
Good performers on. Decent size.. could do with some TLC
M. S.
Good venue with upper floor overlooking the act. Drinks prices on the hefty side and don't get me started about parking nearby! Friendly staff.
A. P.
It's almost an hourglass shape inside and quite snug. Can make it difficult to get a good view.
L. W.
Absolutely brilliant gig.
d.
Great for watching a live band but over inflated drinks prices.
No draught beers on when we visited and expensive cans and bottles that were 2-3 times more than the shops.
Q. V.
Cool venue for live music etc, not too big and decent acoustics. Drinks prices are about what you'd expect on town
f. 3.
Really great venue for live music.
Went to see against the current and supporting act the faim. Very good.
J. M.
My son had a gig here. Great place for rock and metal music. Very loud though. Bands here play there own stuff.
P. R.
Always a great party night every Saturday I'm there.... Love Voodoo Saturdays at Riverside.
Great crowd, great staff, and great door team, and great prices too!
P. C.
Brilliant place, really good atmosphere...could do with a makeover but when they do it tends to ruin these places some how, so just leave it the way it is please ..prices for drinks were ok
R. B.
Great venue, had loads of fun, great energy, bit dirty, sticky floors etc. But to be expected
K. D.
Great venue for live music
R. J.
Excellent venue for gigs with great atmosphere. Easy to see the stage wherever you stand and with seating on the balcony.
G. E.
Good venue, been here several times for various gigs, always a good atmosphere.
C. R.
A great venue, I have seen some great bands here and the sound quality is good.
H. S.
Independent gig space in a great location, awesome line-up of bands - can't wait to see it back open!
D. M.
I've been going here since 1996. Pick your vibe and you're laughing. From Roni Size Shindig, Bury Tomorrow to Crossfaith... I've always been entertained for almost 25yrs :)
R. W.
Great venue & superb gig tonight
L. C.
Very well kept and perfect to see any band live this is the place I always go too when I see my favourite bands and is defenatly worth your time
O. C.
Nice and loud, Good amount of space for performers, Bar service and bathroom clearly marked. Outdoor closed off (fenced off) smoking area.
B.
Enjoyable experience. Games consoles available for free use at the bar. Would recommend for any music lover.
N. H.
Great venue for live music ,but once again ran out of all draft drinks then ran out of bottles and cans.when they did try and use a pump they didn't have a clue how to regulate the gas.this should never happen,It's putting some people off going.
A. J.
First time here and will certainly be looking to come back in the future. A good size venue with a good sound and good drinks . A decent position in town to get to .

S. B.
Great for Live music, Beer is a little pricey, £5 for a pint of Guinness
M. N.
Was here for the Idles gig. When this place is packed and the band has some energy, it's a great little venue.
L. S.
the venue is nice, but beer selection is rather mediocre...
M. S.
Great place to party and drink. Only problem is the space. Not spacious though.
M. W.
Excellent venue staff were brilliant
Disabled toilet needs to be made accessible more door swing wrong way making it hard for wheelchair
B. C.

Small venue. Nice balcony. Music is a bit rubbish though
I. S.
Cracking venue / good bands uk subs /gimp first /angelics etc pricey beer though but!

D. W.
Awesome place to go for any gig or nite out will be visiting again
M. L.
Really cool space. Big enough for some well known bands and small enough for not so well known.
P. B.
Good bands but drinks were expensive for Newcastle and the gig ended at 10pm!
O. M.
Great tunes, but you need to take out a mortgage to buy drinks.
