Great venue in the heart of Reading. The team here are excellent and we were served drinks pretty quickly even though it was busy. The sound is great with good view of stage. I saw Sham 69 on this occasion and look forward to going back.....The Kids Are United !!!
G. F.
Tight little venue, hot on a summers evening when full and when I say hot, I mean dripping... Reasonably priced drinks, staff very nice. Fabulous to see a 'big' band play such a small venue.
E. S.
Very good venue. Went in for the comedy night and it was well put together, with a variety of acts and a great host.
They said they were having some staff shortages due to COVID self-isolation, so the bar queues were moving slowly. However, everyone was nice - both staff and the public - which made it a great night.
I'll definitely visit again!
G.
Good local venue on a first floor level in a very central location in Reading Town centre. When full - good atmosphere, with the whole audience in close proximity to the band. Be careful on entry, so as to not end up in Popworld.

Came here 30th April for 'just the tonic' comedy night and me and the Mrs loved it. All the comedians made us laugh but the compere was actually brilliant, and so was Patrick monohan. We had a cocktail each which were huge. The 16.50 entry fee also gives you access to pop world downstairs where most drinks are 2.50. All in all it was a great night and will definitely be going back
P. S.
Nice venue. Staff both on the door and at the bar were friendly. Went for a gig and sound was great and good vibe.

Been going to sub 89 for years now, seen many great acts, bar is reasonably priced and quick service. Great sound system too.
I highly recommend 👌

Drinks a little expensive but not really more than other places. But it's always such a great night there, their live performances are always amazing!
J. K.
Went there last night, 1 July, to see Motley Crued and Poizon. Excellent venue, great music, very helpful friendly staff, disabled assitance and facilities second to none.
S. D.
Went to see anti nowhere league here last night. Great venue, sounds were epic, whether right at the front; or right at the back. Will definitely return.
I. F.
Great little venue been going for a while, well organised and great selection of acts - looking forward t ACDC UK again coming up this week.
H.
Lovely atmosphere, great concert! Drinks were served quickly.
J. G.
Great venue, lots of space, seating and the toilets are nice too!
D. S.
Grungy comedy and music venue. Not bad for a Saturday night out. Has some blasts from the past coming through
J. C.
Brilliant venue, lovely staff, great bar prices and Ultimate Coldplay were the BEST! 🌟
D. H.
Best live venue in Reading; just don't stand by the speakers
B. D.
Great venue for bands, good selection of beer. Friendly staff
S. C.
Pretty good venue for live performances in Reading. Quite small so its easy to get up close to the performers. Some good acts so its worth keeping an eye on the website. Can get very hot and sweaty and the bar is crowded.
D. H.
Great little club venue with the biggest glitterball I can remember! Looked likequite a tight stage, narrow.
J. C.
Great place I never knew was here in Reading. Little live music place with great staff
S. O.
Great venue for gigs, bar service was spot on even when it was packed. Security guards were on point which is always reassuring.
A star knocked off cos the toilets were awful.
L. L.
SUB89 is an amazing spot, such good bands, punk, rock even hip hop and great atmosphere when it's busy.
Bad Manners, Max Splodge and The Skangsters were more amazing'er! Cracking evenin'
J. H.
Absolutely brilliant loved my first experience at sub89 garage brunch....
R. H.
My last review was overwhelmingly negative, but things seem to m to have improved a lot since I was last there. The bar was staffed adequately, the sound was really good and it genuinely looked like it had seen some of the TLC it was severely lacking the last time I was there.
M. L.
Brilliant live music venue. Wouldn't want to be stood in front of the side PA speakers though
K. C.
Good little venue. Ticket prices good value. Bar, toilets and a bit of seating here and there. Been a few times and always been a good night. [Jan 2018]
G. M.
Superb venue, great night out.
C. W.
Ultimate Bowie was brilliant they are Best tribute you will ever see the Dutchess was at hear Best singing Under Pressure superb
S. B.
Great venue, all sorts of music and good sound
S. P.
It does what it says plays music and serves beer. Couldn't fault my night watching the ANWL.
S. J.
A really nice venue but bookings need improving.
the location, bar, venue and facilities are great. but sadly most of the acts that perform here are cover bands. I've nothing against cover bands but I'd really like to see more original artists.
S. B.
excellent live venue. not too big but has a superb sound system which is a must a live music venue but this exceeds what I would normally expect in a venue of this size and they have cider on draught and not that Blackburn chemical s#$t
R. N.
Good venue, just please get some good beers for the bar.
J. M.
Great rock venue in the centre of Reading.
P. W.
Great small venue in town
P.
Always great at Sub89. Good staff, but they need a few more behind the bar sometimes. There is wheelchair access, don't know if there is a lift, but a chap in a wheelchair was there to watch Bad Manners. Very reasonable prices too, both bar and event tickets.
A. N.
Although I only go occasionally it does get a good variety of music. The queue at the bar is never too bad. Manages to maintain a steady reasonable temperature even when busy, which is something a lot of venues can't manage. Let down by the sorry state of the toilets (but that may be the clientele) and the sometimes lack of cloakroom.
H. F.
Great venue, fantastic bar staff and the best venue toilets that I have seen in a long time. Reasonably priced drinks for a change. Very close to bus and train. Top marks.
C. z.
Dare i say its probably the best venue in Reading unfortunately
R. F.
So glad Reading has got this great little music venue.
P. F.
Cool venue, good sound system, beer not to expensive, toilets cleaner than most! Stairs up to venue from street level are fun on the way out when you're half-cut
D. S.
I really like this venue despite the fact that it’s bloody inconvenient for me to get to. I’ve see John Cooper Clarke, PiL and Sham 69 here. All old timers (like me) but all much better than I expected (especially Sham). Great atmosphere and superb sound. Could moan about the bar prices but no worse than usual for this sort of place.
d. a. p. j.
Friendly staff fantastic security great sound n engineering always looked after at this venue love working here
A. L.
Great atmosphere, great sound.
J. B.
Glasvegas @ Sub89 - Great place to see a great band
Sub89 is a great place to see a band. Getting served at the bar can take a little while but once you've got your pint; it's not too difficult to get near the front with a great view of the band.
Unfortunately, more often than not, they put on tribute bands but every few months there's a gem as was the case with Glasvegas. A great night.
T. W.
Great place to watch live gigs staff friendly management friendly and door staff amazing highly recommend
m. m.
Great venue for live music (and I believe comedy nights) shame it doesn't have car parking as Reading really knows how to take the p**s when it comes to that!
Venue ticket £20
Parking £18 for just over 4 hours in the evening from 7pm
Somebody please have a word!
W. L.
Have some great bands on here. Tributes from a particular era seems to be a speciality. Used to like it here a lot, but last visit not up to scratch (16.10.16). Lack of bar staff meant massive wait at the bar. No cloakroom attendant, so had to carry jackets all evening. I'm back again on 23.10, so will see if was just a blip.
Returned on 23.10. No improvement :-( Band were great though.... Resurrected, a Stone Roses tribute.
A. H. A. A.
Had a great night out, Thank you, yes it was busy, yes the queue at the bar was not unreasonable, it was what it was but a chance to see The Dualers, when are you and Si back for a Tribute.
J. “. S.
Good sound , nice crowd
D. G.
Love this venue often have great bands on
K. B.
Floor needs a bloody good clean!!
A.
Great place for live music, sound quality is pretty good and there is plenty of space to move around. Drinks are fairly decent in price but nothing unexpected.
G. P.
Great venue for live music in Reading, c. 600 capacity. Good sound, fairly efficient bar, civilised security people, lots of good shows on.
D. C.
Love this place it's smelly and dirty but that's more down to us the guests toilets have been refurbished recently though. Great atmosphere and up close and personal to the bands
d. e.
I regularly go out in reading and this has to be my favourite place, sub 89 for the best gigs and dj led nights, but for a mad cap chilled night we go to its sister venue next door Rewind, real fun night, they have fire breathers, stilt walkers fridays too. no pretensions, just a great friendly crowd.
A. G.
This is a great small to medium venue
P. D.
Not enough bar staff. Annoying pillars. Saw The Smyths. They were fine, but the source material is poor apart from 6 or 7 songs... Sorry Smiths faboys, I prefer Morrisey solo...
C. B.
Great venue for bands but a horrendous bar...ended up missing the first 2 bands to go back to wetherspoons because overpriced cans of beer could only be bought by cash
S. Q.
We saw Sham69 tonight at Sub89... They were brilliant ! Lots of people there . And lots of pogo dancing . ( And pushing ) but a good night . They sang 17 songs ! And lots of energy !
T. W.
Great venue, with so many live music venues gone Sub 89 is a great local venue for less mainstream rock and a bit of nostalgia.
D. M.
Fantastic little venue, see Ed sheeran a few years back here, no comparison to shaum ryder and happy Mondays though, great place
A. W.
Smaller live music venue, bring ID no matter your age, as those over 18 will get a hand stamp allowing them to buy alcohol. No stamp no beer!
L. F. (.
Came to see The Specials Limited. Disabled provisions not the best. But everything has a learning curve
T. N.
Visited regularly over the last few years...lots of good gigs, always have a Red Stripe (you get it in the tin, not a plastic glass!)...5 stars from me!
C. M.
This has to be one of my favourite gig venues. Really small and personal. Bar gets very busy.
K. P.
Great venue for live music, good sound...a little gem
Y. M.
Great venue; large enough for a good atmosphere but small enough to feel suitably intimate and connected with what's happening on the stage.
n.
Intimate venue for seeing guitar bands, good rock from local and international bands alike. Easy access to Reading train station.
A. G.
Great venue staff are brilliant and sound is awesome good place to get close you the band
A. L.

A. O.

C. H.
Have been a few times now to see tribute bands, excellent small venue
A. L.
Great small sized venue. Plenty or space with bar at back. Access up stairs so not suitable for all.
C. W.
Fantastic evening seeing the Bon Jovi Experience. All staff were friendly and had a laugh, clean and tidy, great atmosphere.
p. p.
Very poor beer. No biter and the Guinness is very bad
But the music is good. And come 10 o clock. All out.
A. C.
Although it was quite it was a nice place to be and have a drink even when no events on.... The door charge is bit steep when it was quite but was still nice
p.
Great venue for Reading, need to sort out their beer selection though as they always seem to run out of decent beer!
P. B.
Great sounding venue in the centre of Reading
R. S.
Great venue, good bands, polite staff and drinks prices are very reasonable.
D. S.
Good variety of bands and music here. Great live sets. Pricey bar though.
B.
Great small sized venue where you are up close with the bands. Occasionally get to see bands play here that normally play much bigger venues.
E. G.
Cracking sound, friendly staff
B. C.
Great night of comedy! Leo Kearse and Damien Clark were brilliant! Great night out to start your evening on a high!
S. M.
Depends on the band and the sound engineer... Obviously it can be brilliant and can be average... so far so good. :)
P. W.
