If I could give these guys more stars I would. I've been going to a previous opticians where my parents live for over 35 years. Decided to change and go local and try Wanstead Opticians. Thoroughly impressed with Greg, his knowledge, honesty and his team. It's very refreshing. With late opening hours to accommodate traveling back from work it ticks another box. Seriously good.

Very nice small, independent opticians. Greg really knows his stuff and gives honest, unbiased advice and won’t try to rip you off (unlike some of the High St chains). The ladies are really friendly and patient as well. Highly recommend.

First time I had use these guys. Amazing! I unfortunately broke my glasses and they were my only pair, panic set in I rushed to them to get advise. With my leases being a 1/2 week wait, the gentlemen in the shop fitted my current lenses to at least 20 pairs. I settled on a new frame that I wouldn’t usually go for. I love them and to be honest everyone else does too. They all went above to help me, really appreciated it! Would recommend

Excellent advice and pricing. They care about customers and don't trick them into buying products or services they don't need. I was tricked by both boots and specasavers over the last year into paying for extra tests I didn't book and had hours of my time wasted on customer service. Forget the big franchise stores and go here. Their prices are more competitive than the chains as well.

After years of going to other opticians I decided to try Wanstead after hearing so many positive reviews. My experience was first class, Greg took time to listen to my concerns and reassure me. Karen was equally as brilliant helping me choose glasses. I will only go here in future and will recommend them to anyone looking for an optician with fantastic service and the bonus of a good sense of humour.

Speedy service, friendly staff. There was a smudge on the optometry machine that made judging lens clarity a bit challenging. Otherwise, a decent opticians centre.

Excellent opticians. Greg is a super nice guy and made me feel very comfortable throughout the eye examination. He also explained everything (what different parts of the eye do and so on) which I absolutely loved. Highly recommended and would definitely return next time I need a check up.

Excellent optician. Greg is very helpful, thorough and professional. My family have all been seen here for eye tests, glasses etc (from young child to grandparents) and Greg has always seen us very quickly when needed for emergencies (any eye problems / concerns). I highly recommend Wanstead opticians. They're genuinely interested in getting the correct lenses for the customer as proved when after 4weeks of receiving my new glasses I felt they weren't quite right, they quickly reassessed my needs and gave me another set that work much better. Wanstead Opticians My past experiences of chain store opticians had, at best, been cold and functional and my experience of independent opticians had been very variable so my eye test was long overdue when I walked into Wanstead Opticians. Greg, the optician, made me feel instantly at ease with his engaging conversation. He did all the eye tests with professional efficiency, never forgetting that he was dealing with a human being – not just a pair of eyes. He also offered invaluable practical advice for a non-sight related eye condition. He then handed me over to Karen who speedily produced several pairs of very flattering glasses and chatted about how each of them worked so I could make some very good decisions on my two pairs. Seamlessly Sue moved in, taking measurements and talking about how each would work in practice - all the time creating an atmosphere of warmth and welcome. I’m delighted with my glasses and very pleased to have found such a great independent optician. As for the chain stores, I can say only one thing – should not have gone to Specsavers!

Superb service. I wandered in without an appointment and was seen instantly for an eye test. They have superb staff (ophthalmologist, optician, administration) who gave a great eye test, help me choose fantastic prescription glasses and prescription sunglasses with excellent taste and attention to detail, and no hard sell at all. Glasses were ready within a week and I’m very happy with them. Edit 2021 - I’ve got a third pair of glasses now and have to confirm that each time the service is impeccable. Greg does great check ups and Karen is a great stylist.

Incredibly friendly staff, Greg was very kind and helpful with picking frames that fit me well, both in the sense of style and comfort. Everything is done smoothly and it only took a few days to get my new pair of glasses ready, during the New Years period where a lot of other businesses in the past have been far less efficient. (Plus, the option to get notified by both email and phone that your new frames are ready was very appreciated.)

A truly fabulous experience! Greg is a great optician and goes out of his way to make sure you feel like youre getting the best service. He is genuinely interested in you and wants you to feel comfortable and relaxed whilst having your eye test. His team were great too. Knowledgeable and super friendly. Very impressed. Just had my first visit to this opticians following excellent reviews online. I was early for my appointment but got seen within a few minutes. Greg is very professional and explains everything well. Had pressure test for glaucoma (runs in the family) and was a little concerned about the reading, but Greg reassured me readings were all within range. Also had images taken and he spotted a mole at the back of one of my eyes and this will now be monitored at future check ups - again he reassured me all was ok as it was flat and not raised. Am so happy with the service, I have already recommended him to my family for their next check ups. Initial booking over the phone was very professional too - as I was a new patient I just needed to answer a few questions and my appointment was made.

Wanstead Opticians is absolutely fabulous. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and can’t do enough to help - whether it’s an eye exam, picking fashionable frames or getting advice. The selection of frames is excellent and the contact lens delivery service makes reordering really easy. I commute an hour for my eye tests as I won’t go anywhere else!

Absolutely brililant. I had an emergency visit after my daughter poked my eye and caused a lot of pain. I was clearly distressed and in a lot of pain, but was seen really quickly after just walking in. I really appreciated being looked at, and for having my mind put at rest. Whilst I was incredible pain, the whole experience was really lovely, friendly, helpful and brilliant. I cannot recommend this place enough!!! I made the same mistake as a lot of people probably reading this review and visited an high street chain opticians and left mortified. Made an appointment with these guys. Got one straight away, didnt need to wait weeks then another few weeks to receive my glasses then another few weeks to receive my trail lenses. Thanks to Greg, everything was done so punctual and on point. Their not like other opticians who advise you on whats best for them and their business account, but whats best for you!! This was first time I visited this optician. What an amazing experience! Gregg was fantastic, checked my vision and an eye health very thoroughly. Care and time was take to listen to my medical history and every procedure and findings were explained in details. I felt I was in really good hands! I previously used Specsavers, but not any more. The big difference is it's a local business where you see the same people every time and they do a fantastic and highly efficient job. I was seen by Greg today who was very professional, experienced, knowledgeable and skilled at his job. I used to go to Specsavers and Optical Express, but after a bad experience there, where the opticians would see their customers as a 'number' instead of a person, I thought it was time to go to a smaller optician, who would actually listen to what my concerns were. And this is exactly what happened at Wanstead Opticians. I was made feel welcomed, was treated with respect and it all happened in a very friendly manner. I am highly recommending Wanstead Opticians, as they are all very professional, customer focused and make you feel at ease and relaxed. I will be definitely returning there again.

Greg, the optician is amazing. Helpful, friendly & professional. The lady on reception is a dream and their range of frames are great. They could not gave been more helpful in helping me chose my new frames (moving away from an old style you're used to is incredibly hard!). I don't usually leave reviews but I wanted to as I've been so impressed with the service. I've been going to Boots for years who seem to have been prescribing glasses where it might not be needed. The person who did the test was really friendly, I've never had such a thorough eye test before so I will be continuing with this opticians without a doubt! Excellent stuff!

This is an updated review. Wanstead Opticians are under new management and in the months since the change they have changed the atmosphere of the shop to a professional and clean environment which isn't as visually cluttered as it used to be. The best part is the updated tests that include all relevant and quite important tests currently on the market done with skill and very positive customer focus. Having been a customer for the last 9 years I am happy to say I very much recommend supporting the local independent optician over the chains who try to up-sell you to make up for the initial low prices.

What a breath of fresh air it is to walk into an opticians and be treated as a human being and not a number as many of the high street chains seem to do. The staff are friendly and cannot do enough to help and advise, they go out of their way to order in frames to try with no obligation - this wouldn't happen at many other places.
