Lens Replacement: From the very first appointment to the check up the following day Optical Express have been fantastic with their communication. On the day of surgery all staff from the ladies on reception to the surgeons themselves we friendly and reassuring talking me through every step in the process. A few hours after the surgery was complete the difference in my sight wasb unreal. I could not have asked for better results. If you are thinking of this procedure I can assure you you will not regret it.

I have Fibromyalgia and the constant flares and dry eyes interfered with my glasses with the result that I ended up using 6 pairs including 2 different pairs of varifocals. I tried varifocal contact lens but they were not suitable. I debated for 4 years about eye surgery and admit I was nervous about the procedure. The surgery itself was not painful and apart from feeling a slight pressure I was not really aware of what was happening. I am now 4 weeks post-OP and over the last 3 weeks I have been able to attend the theatre (Jersey Boys), watch a live football match (Newcastle v Man. City), go Blackberry picking and pluck my eyebrows all without glasses. But it is being able to do the everyday things like cooking, eating, reading the papers (in hard copy and online), watching TV, driving, walking outside, shopping, using gym equipment, using a mobile phone, putting on makeup and really seeing the plants and wildlife in the garden, all without reaching for my glasses that are the real benefits for me. I will admit the drops you need to use for the 4 weeks after surgery are a bit of a faff, but the only painful part of the whole process so far has been removing the eye protectors each morning during the first week( okay if you are bald, but I found putting my hair in a shower cap before sticking them on helped!) . The halos around lights were spectacular to start with, they are starting to fade but I am avoiding night time driving except for short trips at present. The unexpected benefits ? Feeling much more confident and relaxed when out of the house, being able to buy sunglasses I actually like and owning a small handbag.

Nice friendly staff at Newcastle, ran me through the procedure and looked after me after each stage. Left eye was done in 10/15 minutes, it was a bit uncomfortable and wierd. You cant see whats happening just a blurry outline. The right eye was different story. It was a lot more uncomfortable took a lot longer, maybe 25/30 minutes and when someone repeatable tries to reassure you everythings OK you tend not to believe them. Are they reassuring you or themselves. 2 months on I'm still having problems with blurry vision and light sensitivity sore and painful eyes. They are improving but very slowly. I've seen a couple of people the day after their surgery and they are fine. Trust me to be in the 10 percent club.

Absolutely unbelievable!!! Two hours after surgery for multi-focal lens replacement, I was sat doing a Sudoku at home, and I read a book before bed - all without glasses! Things looked a bit foggy at first, but this lifted by the hour, and by the next day things were almost back to (better than) normal. I was deemed to have better than 20/20 vision on the first day check up, and as I sit and write this (day 3), I keep forgetting that I ever had surgery. Still some slight halos at times, but the minor grittiness has completely gone, and I am beyond grateful that my eyes now remind me of how life was 35 years ago! Thank you so much to everyone at the clinic. I couldn't have been in better hands, and you lovely people made everything seem so easy and uncomplicated. My expectations have been surpassed, I feel that I've been given a new lease of life, and I am grateful beyond words!

Great,so professional,aftercare very good,surgery went great, 4 hours later I could see smallest writing on TV,game changer for me thankyou 1 month later even better thanx again Team only thing the surgeon wipes your hippy scrub off your skin around your eyes this was the worse part as under eye skin it’s like tissue paper gentle does it for us women as that skin is precious. Its 3 days after I had multi focal lens replacement and I am very pleased I had it done. Right from the first appointment all the staff at OE have been great. Attention to detail is impressive and gave great confidence in what was to happen. The day itself was quite long, over four hours, as checks are made, pre op prep etc all leading to about 25 mins in the operation. Its a strange feeling, mildly uncomfortable at times, but pain free. Compared to the worst case scenarios, I found my post op vision better than expected and discomfort less. Could anything be better? Yes. The reception and post op chairs are great, the ones in between for 3 hours could be better. Thanks

I have had multifocal lens replacement at Newcastle April 2021, even though I have stigmatism & rugby ball shaped eyes. I am so pleased with the results, I was told I might need reading glasses for close up work but actually can see very small print. I still have some blurred vision but doesn’t stop me doing anything & is improving, but it has only been 6 weeks. Still have another follow up appointment. I had refractive lens surgery two days ago 2nd October 2021 on both eyes and I am currently typing this with no glasses which was unachievable before. The whole process from start ( consultation at York with Rachel) to finish (surgery at Newcastle) was faultless. My surgeon Dr Manu Mathew was very professional and reassuring as were all.his team including reception staff. I am a Fire fighter and this procedure is life changing for me and it is difficult to comprehend the overnight change in my sight was achieved in such a short painles operation. My advice to anyone thinking of eye surgery is take time to.make the correct decision with guidance during consultation. We are all indviduals and require different levels in procedures do not let the cost enter in to your decision process as the results for me are remarkable and I wish I had done it several years ago. After 30+ years of wearing lenses and varifocal glasses I decided to take the plunge and get lenses replacements as laser wasn’t an option because it would only last 5 years with my current prescription. On my first visit We had the unfortunate experience of being evacuated just before my tests began because of a fire alarm and had to reschedule my appointment. My second visit was more successful and a lovely lady called Jean did my tests and talked me through the finance options and procedure. The day of my surgery I turned up in a blizzard and all the staff had made it in too so my surgery went ahead . The procedure itself only took roughly 15 minutes , it’s odd lying there knowing someone is operating on your eyes as you can’t see or feel much, and the staff constantly make sure your comfortable, The aftercare is excellent too with regular check ups and a phone call . To sum it up... the team at Newcastle are friendly and professional from the reception to the surgery room. DidI make the right decision ? ..... 100% my only regret is I didn’t do it sooner and I can say this only 3 weeks after my surgery . Anyone thinking of having it done... go for it , you’ll not regret it .

Just excellent from the start. Would say from start to finish except I am in early stages of treatment having just had two lens replacements over a week ago and have just had a weekly review. I am so pleased with results to date and encouraged that it will just get sharper as time progresses. Customer service is excellent as is professionalism of all staff as it was a big decision to go ahead there was lots of opportunities to discuss exactly what could be done, what the risks are, consultation with the surgeon prior to operation and the ability to contact that at any point with any other questions or concerns that I may have. Having worn glasses for over 50 years the lens replacements are fantastic, I may still need reading glasses for very fine text but everything else is excellent. I have just had my three month check up for cataract removal with optical lens replacement which was performed in October last year. Had iDesign Laser Eye treatment yesterday and after a couple of hours of stinging, I could see almost perfectly! The procedure was quick and the staff were assuring, talking me through the whole thing. The tools used to keep my eyelids open were slightly uncomfortable whilst they were being put in but the laser itself was pain free and over before I knew it. The service was excellent and when I had to wait for a couple of hours for my lift and the staff were very friendly offering me drinks and ensuring I was comfortable. Staff were lovely and helpful from start to finish, and my surgeon was quick and had gentle hands. While I found the procedure traumatic (as one would, having lasers zapped into your eyes), it was over quickly and my eyes have recovered very well. I'm almost two months out from my Lasik iDesign, and am still amazed at how crisp and sharp the world is. To have been 20/20 at my one month check-up, when before the procedure I was -10 and -9 is something I'm still struggling to grasp fully!

One year update: I can safely say that this has been one of the best things that I have ever done. By now I completely take for granted that I can see perfectly and any insignificant side effects have essentially melted away. The light halo effect at night is no longer noticeable (probably because I'm competely used to it rather than it disappearing altogether). Original review: Finally decided that this was the year I'd fix my eyes so I booked a consultation at Optical Express. The whole process was smooth and efficient. The eye tests were soon complete and I received confirmation that I was eligible for surgery. At this point I must say that Jean was so helpful and supportive during the discussion on my options going forwards. Having made the decision to proceed I was given a date for a call from the surgeon and for the surgery. I was really happy with how quickly this could all be arranged. Fast forward to the day of the procedure and although there was an initial half hour wait upon my arrival I had the surgery and left within the estimated 2 hour time frame. The surgery was quick and pain free. There was moderate discomfort afterwards (like chopping strong onions) but this subsided after a few hours and was treatable with cocodamol. I have followed all the aftercare instructions provided and 4 days on I couldn't be happier with the result. My eyesight is sharper than it ever was with contact lenses. I was in for the procedure on Monday and returned to work without any issues on Wednesday. So happy that I took the plunge and went ahead with the treatment and have already recommended Optical Express Newcastle to family and friends who have inquired. Thanks

Being a bit of a wimp I was grateful for the nurse holding my hand throughout the procedure! The first few hours after surgery were quite uncomfortable with a gritty scratchy feeling. I followed the advice of the clinic and slept for a couple of hours as my eyes were streaming too. I was much more comfortable afterwards and saw rapid improvements over the next few hours. 2 days after surgery and my vision is better than 20/20. I am delighted with the results so far!

I did enjoy the experience of having Natural Lens Replacment with mono focal implants,I was nervous and excited at the same time .(the unknown).all the team were very professional.I did fined you were in and out of what felt like 10 different rooms ,The waiting can make you nervous but they have to be sure . I have been a customer with Optical express for over 7 years now. I recently found out at 42 years of old I had a steroid induced cataract. This was found by a member of the Optical Express team. I have then had this removed with laser and a new lense inserted. I know I have a one starting on the other eye and will return to the Newacstle surgery centre without hesitation. Have recently had Multifocal Lens Replacement surgery at the Newcastle upon Tyne branch (17th October 2021). I only wish there were more stars I could give this review! I arrived at the branch at 7:00am for my 7:15am appointment and was in the car being driven home by 10:30am with my "space goggles" on (see pic)! Fast forward less than 24 hours and I was excitedly removing my new fashion accessories at 6:00am and reading the ingredients on the toothpaste tube in my bathroom without specs. Now OK, the procedure to get from A to B was very weird, but I can not stress enough (even as a self proclaimed Phobic of all things eyeball related) how PAIN FREE the whole process was. The best way I can illustrate this is that if you have ever been in hospital and been asked to describe your pain on a scale of 1-10 as the nurses and doctors do, if that question had have been asked in this instance (it wasn't!) then I would have had to respond MINUS 10!! I had absolute trust in the surgical staff and to put it simply, only around 20-30 minutes of the 3 hours I was in the building was actual "procedure" time and the discomfort was minimal and almost all in my head! Superb staff, extremely friendly, great value (appreciate this is relative), reassuring after care and above all outstanding results. I loved this clinic. The staff was very kind and really dedicated themselves to making sure I was comfortable at every step in this process. I felt really well informed leading up to the procedure, there was literal hand-holding during the procedure, and they are here to support me now after the procedure. I'm only subtracting one star because there was an annoying rescheduling of the procedure, which was due to a technical problem, but it was really inconvenient and I had to wait a few more weeks in the end.

I have just undergone Multi Focal Lense replacement procedure, From the start with my first consultation with Jean it has been a very professional experience, everything was explained what would happen with the procedure and the costs, my doctor Mr Teenan rang me two weeks before the the op to explain what would happen and did I have any questions, on the day of the procedure I was met by Karen , Hilary and Dean who put me through numerous eye tests which there are many, the nursing staff were brilliant they explained everything they were doing and at what stage you were at , after the op which I felt no pain whatsoever I waited for my wife to pick me up Janice who is on reception was looking after all the other patients as well as me getting us tea and coffee and making sure we were all comfortable. The same happened on the second day of the procedure, the team at St Nicholas were excellent they all got on well together and this reflects on the patient, it is three days after my op and my distance sight is brilliant, I still need reading glasses for small print I can see the print and read it but it is clearer with glasses Dean has said this is normal and my eyes will adjust with time. Overall I am glad i went ahead and had this procedure . Well done St Nicholas Team

Would recommend this procedure ( lense replacement) to anyone , don’t be put off that you still might need readers I have better than 20/20 vision in distance and also in reading the slight visual problems like halos and dry eyes for me only lasted 3-4 weeks I am 52 am my sight was going down hill rapidly I have also shared my experience with work colleagues and two of them have also had there’s done with the same results , great company now take the plunge and see again .
