Lovely trip on a steam train to Devils Bridge. Depending on times you can have a few hours at Devils Bridge to visit the falls etc. Or if you don't fancy driving to Aberystwyth go from Devils Bridge, again check times. The train has a 1st class carriage and open and closed carriages. The journey takes about an hour and you meander along a line take has some excellent scenery. I went with my 9yr and 11yr old they both enjoyed it as I did. There is a nice coffee shop/cafe in Devils Bridge where you can chill before your journey back. You can also get to drive a steam train but I don't have much information on that. But a nice day or half day out depending on what you want to do.

If you like historic recreation and preservation, this is an absolute must!
From start to finish, an entirely wonderful and enjoyable family experience. Authentic guards dress adds to the day, as does the platform decor and even the lavatories have a 'days gone by' look.
Carriages are well preserved and authentic, as proven by the fun, jostling ride they provide.
Every member of the staff are enthusiastic and helpful, in every way, making the journey as enjoyable as possible.
There are stops along the way, if you want to get off and walk parts of the journey, but the best way is to go all the way to Devils Bridge, where the trip terminates and you can get a good look at the engines.
Also at Devils Bridge, is another terrific little railway gift shop, with some smashing stuff for all ages including books, dad's, posters and railway liveried gifts.
Another reason to get to Devils Bridge, is the opportunity to see the Red Kite Centre and the lovely Two Hoots cafe, where you can get some super, homemade cakes etc along with hot and cold drinks.

Amazing experience through the heritage railway journey. This is one of the must have on the list to experience when you are in this area. If train is less crowded then you get option to extend the time to hike and trail in the Devil's Bridge area. There are two trails which can be taken, one for train passengers who can take 16 mins of trail. Other is 45 min trail which is difficult to do in 1 hour time given to tourists/passengers. As train was less crowded we were given option to return back through other train (the last service). So talk to the ticket agent at counter. They will help and guide accordingly.

Absolutely astonishing. Me and my partner concluded our trip to west wales with this rail journey in a beautifully restored steam engine and we were in awe of the beautiful scenery we passed through at a leisurely anachronistic pace. This is fun for the entire family undiminished by the weather and which will ignite passions within.

Came here today thought it was good but abit overpriced was £30 each adult and £2.50 a child. Train takes 1 hour to get to its destination there's some nice views on the way but there's not much there. There was a cafe and chocolate shop. Not much undercover If its raining like it was on our visit also you don't get enough time to explore as it's 1 hour until train departs back no one tells you anything you have to ask questions. Overall we thought was OK wouldn't do again tho.
L. B.
Great day out, highly recommend, staff knowledgeable, polite, friendly, the station and train were clean, including the toilets.
We had a great experience and so pleased we did this trip today.
Great fun for all ages!
R. W.
Amazing ride on this small gauge train. We got on at Devils Bridge to Aberystwyth, took about an hour each way and the views were amazing. There's a coffee shop and toilets amongst other bits. Great family day.
H. G.
Staff are very welcoming. the trains and station are kept spotless. Very impressed. I went with a group who had our own train and entertainment as well as a superb buffet lunch was provided for us a Devils bridge Station
I. B.
Really great day out. Staff amazing! Had two disabled members in our party and they could not have been more helpful.
My son loved driving the little engine at Devils Bridge. Real highlight of the day for him.
M. P.
Great experience. The staff were obviously passionate about the railway and the services they provided. Already planning to visit again giving ourselves more time to walk around Devil's Bridge.
R. M.
The first part of the journey on the right was not good it went through a industrial site but after that the views were great. It was not a good weather day and as we climbed high it got colder so I would advise you to dress to take this into account.
E. W.
Plenty of parking, good facilities (Food, Drink and Toilets) not too long of a wait...Offered open and closed carriage, with amazing views along the journey. Dogs are welcome too. Did see disability access onto carriages as well, with staff always around to help...
G. C.
While it seemed like quite a lot at £30pp return we really enjoyed the trip up the beautiful valley..we didn't rush and got the 10:30am to devils bridge and then the 2:15 back giving us plenty of time.
I advise wearing glasses if you in a carriage that's open at the side, being a steam engine it throws out cinders/soot and it hurts if it gets in your eyes which a few passengers experienced. Lots of excitable kiddies so be prepared. You can take dogs on .
R. C.
Lovely ride breathtaking views from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge 40minute ride.
You can either ride in the open cars which I feel needs padded seats or you can ride in inside cars which are padded.
It's not cheap, 3 adults 1 child £92.
Once you get to Devil's Bridge stop there's two hoots cafe.
A. C.
We came on a dull Sunday, the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful, the ramp on to the accessible carriage was wide and easily navigated as was the area for wheel chairs. The only down side is that the carriage is open sided and a bit exposed, the run up was lovely but the rain came and the temp dropped. We remained mainly dry but did feel the chill. I would recommend a coat for the trip on cooler days and a blanket for anyone in a wheelchair as all our legs got a touch cold. All said we enjoyed the trip and the views are pretty good. The falls at Devils Bridge are not accessible so can't comment on that but the hot chocolate and the chocolate orange cake at the cafe were a lovely alternative.
a. g.
Very much recommended, the route up to devil's Bridge is incredibly scenic. The facilities at the station and at devil's Bridge are ample. Very glad we made the trip.
J. S.
First time on a railway in years definitely will be going on it again but the open carriage up an down, the views are breath taking, and the birds and wildlife. Truly some magic moments, staff are super friendly and helpful
E. M.
Brilliant experience that I highly recommend. The views were fabulous and the wildlife we saw was great too (red kites!). The train climbs quite high up the mountain so it really is amazing what you can see. We didn't get a chance to use the cafe at devil's Bridge as the queue was quite long and there wasn't a huge gap before the next train, but we didnt mind too much. Its a shame there isn't a cafe at the Aberystwyth side as we would have enjoyed a coffee and cake or lunch when we returned. Another great steam train experience!
J. J.
This was an amazing trip, we went to see the devils falls at the other end of the railway. We travelled in an open carriage and saw so many great views, I really got a strong sense that the railway is a true labour of love among the staff and the locals! I would definitely do this trip again
P. W.
Lovely steam train trip, if a nice day, I'd advise anyone to use the open carriages, you get to see the views,so much better.
H. W.
Fantastic train journey, grit in my eyes and over me, just gives you the true experience. Wear dark colours if travelling in the open carriage 😂 Great views but for me it was all about the journey there and back, loved it, would go again.
C. O.
Fantastic ride, amazing views!
Only negative is avoid the first carriage as you get covered in soot 😂
Would recommend and do again anytime
E. S.
Great way to spend an afternoon, would expensive for a family trip, but I thoroughly enjoyed the journey. Great views along the valley, try sitting in a different carriage for both journey's
C. H.
An amazing day out and well worth booking in advance to make sure you get a seat! We have made many trips to Devils Bridge on the railway and have always enjoyed. Amazing scenery and views along the side of the valley. Trains are kept immaculate and the carriage/compartments too.
Staff are very knowledgeable and passionate about the railway and this shows.
No trip to Aberystwyth is complete without it, 10/10 would recommend!!
B. J.
Really enjoyed our visit to devil's Bridge on the train, we rode inside on the way there & an open carriage on way back. Would like to do this again in the sun & explore devil's Bridge some more.
Adult tickets are £30 for an hours ride each way, £4 for a dog, with 2 children a total of £69, quite expensive but appreciate the cost of maintenance & running of the Vale of Rheidol 🚂🚂
h. w.
Epic ride, lovely train. Makes a nice family day out. Stops at a station about 50-60 mins in to stop for coffee and good etc. Then returns. The views are incredible.
E. T.
Amazing experience! Steam train at its finest. Really a blast from the past. Majestic views and lovely clean toilets!
A. G.
Stunning scenery on the journey up to Devil's Bridge which is also picturesque. Steam train was a lovely experience run by volunteers who are very friendly and helpful
J. M.
Enjoy a nice leisurely train journey through beautiful countryside, slowly winding your way up higher and higher until you reach your destination of Devil's Bridge.
Well worth doing.
T. S.
Lovely trip up (and down) the valley from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge. All staff we met were friendly and cheerful.
Amazing views.
J. -. S. T. t. T. P. G.
Beautiful train ride, we've done it before and it was always a lovely day out, staff are friendly, helpful & professional. Definitely recommend for families groups & individuals (& dogs) alike.
I would only suggest that the stay at devils bridge is longer, we didn't have time to do much apart from have a drink. The dog loved the day out too!
P. H. L. A.
Great way for all ages to spend a few hours. Lovely views and a great way to visit Devil's bridge and the impressive falls. Make sure you take pound coins though as access to the falls cost £2 per person and there isn't always an attendant.
D. M.
Well... it would of been worth going if it wasn't quite so expensive. Almost £70 for two adults, one child and two dogs. 20 min of the initial journey is spend going through fairly boring flat Landscapes and industrial sites, further 40 min offer great views of the valley but it does get a bit boring 😴 by the end. Devil's Bridge and waterfalls were't that special after all and cost more money to visit. Overall the trip left us feeling a little disappointed due to the amount of time and money spent which, in our view, could be better spent elsewhere. If you've got money and time to burn 🔥 then visit but I'll recommend a beach ⛱ instead!
K. T.
Fabulous value for money, an hour long ride each way, if you don't want to be covered in soot do not book open carriage! Shame the stop at the Devil's Bridge only last an hour as there is no chance of having anything to eat at the lovely pub or explore a bit more but there is enough time to go and see the three bridges.
C. S.
I would recommend this train ride for anyone who enjoys the countryside. Very relaxing to take in the stunning views and a lovely cafe to have a cuppa waiting for you at Devils Bridge. Shame the stop is not a bit longer to allow you to enjoy the 45-60min walk at Devils Bridge.
P. P.
Certainly, one of the best of the narrow gauge railway trips in Wales. I've been three times over the years and will come back again one day. This time, I booked in advance, but due to traffic it looked like I was going to miss my train. I phoned ahead and Jeff, in the office was super helpful in putting me on a later train.
j.
Lovely train ride, stunning views, Aberystwyth toilets immaculate, great cafe at Devils Bridge.
f.
The train journey was expensive but well worth the cost as it took just under 2 hours to get to Devils Bridge and back. The scenery and views across the valley on the journey were fantastic (the photos don't do it credit) and we were very lucky to see a Red Kite soaring above. We sat in a closed carriage which was adapted to ensure passengers were abiding to Covid 19 rules. The station staff and locals were very friendly as we had many waves off all ages we passed on our journey. On getting to Devil's Bridge we had enough time to visit the bridge, smaller waterfall and bowl and have a comfort break. As a child I went on many steam engine journeys and the noise and smell of the engine brought back many good memories but the highlight of this trip for me was visiting the unexpected spectacular toilets on the Aberystwyth station which were a talking point for many passengers on the journey ( I heard a young child declaire that they even had posh toilet roll 😅). I would like to say well done to all the staff for taking pride in their place of work, being courteous and friendly and to the train staff for dressing up in period costumes particularly the Guardsman who kept us entertained with his jokes (he only did the job a couple of times a year) and to whoever maintains and cleans the lavatories 😀
p. m.
Wonderful railway well worth the visit staff very helpful and friendly and the veiws on the way to Devils bridge are lovely. Thank you to all involved.
D. C.
Wish we'd had the chance to do a round trip.
Lovely little railway. Fantastic views down into the valley.
L. P.
Great little train ride, next time we'll stay for the walks,
J. Y.
One of the most wonderful scenic rail trips I have ever been on. Everyone concerned were helpful and friendly. If you haven't been on it do it soon.
S. H.
Absolutely lovely railway. What a beautiful scenic route. Enjoyed the comfort of first class.
O.
Amazing landscapes, genuine steam train works with charcoals, very well maintained and professional staff. I will suggest booking closed compartment instead an opened one, only because of the Charcoal powder that will come out and seats which are more comfortable.
Make sure you get the last coach for best view.
FREE Parking/Toilets
2x Adult ticket = £55
Check timetable for planning a journey!
Enjoy ! 👍

The Aberystwyth station was worth visiting 'just for the toilets' which are immaculately (spotlessly) kept, and with wonderful architectural detail. That's a tongue in cheek emphasis on a trip up to Devil's Bridge, which rises up from the gentle slopes near the coast into a very steep-sided gorge with fantastic views of the valley including a dammed reservoir. Tickets a little expensive and best value for 4 or 5 in a party/bubble.
T. R.
We had a marvellous morning. We took First Class and it really was worth it. The carriage is beautiful with the best possible views. The scenery is incredible and we had time for the Devil’s Cauldron walk. We took tea and cake from the cafe to enjoy on the return journey. The staff were all enthusiastic, friendly and clearly loving their jobs. What a treat!
D. C.
Wonderful train journey with fantastic views, well worth the day out
J. M.
Very scenic valley which is seen to advantage on the way up as well as on the way back. There isn't time in the one hour allowed at Devil's Bridge to do the longer walk. The shorter walk is worth it and you have time for a snack in the cafe before taking the train back.
G. B.
Had a lovely trip on the railway, the scenery as you climb up the hills is breath taking.
A. S.
Really good train ride up into the hills. Devil's Bridge was worth seeing
J. B.
Super journey. Lovely scenery. Everything is in such beautiful condition, a real credit to the people who work there. Even the windows were cleaned between journeys! In addition everyone we met was smiley, welcoming and very ready to answer any questions.
We sat in the open carriages which the 3 young children with us enjoyed immensely, particularly when they could see several sheep on the line in front of us who were not going to give way!!
A short walk from Devil's Bridge station to see actual bridge and waterfall if you fancy all the steps when you get there!
Be warned, there are smuts! My hair was like a coal mine and had to be washed straight after. Wear a hat if you can.
Excellent day.
G. D.
A brilliant railway station and ride around the valley, beautiful countryside, well recommended.
S. P.
My partner and I went on the steam train and the views where incredible.
First of all there is free parking, we got their quite early so was nice to park up and have a wonder down to the pier.
The conductor was great and accommodating, given the current times, ensured that each group had their own seating area.
It does take around an 1hr to get the devils bridge but worth every minute with the breathe taking views of the hills and the lakes.
Once at devils bridge you have either 1hr or 1hr 15 mins depending on the time you get the train.
Their is a lovely little cafe/coffee shop at the station or you can cross the road an get an ice cream. There is about a 10 min walk down the devils bridge, where you can find what looked like a lovely restaurant.
Devils bridge has two walks to choose from the smaller one is what is recommended if coming by steam train.
Overall a lovely day and well worth the money.
l. w.
Amazing day and beautiful view and food and drinks were lovely .
C. O.
The train ride was absolutely breath taking
Trip to the top is absolutely worth it
B. S.
Great views, and a convenient way of getting to Devils Bridge from Aberystwyth
T. F.
It was lively to hear the steam locomotive working hard as we ascended the hillside. The views were stunning. The two hoots cafe at the top was friendly. There are no toilets on the train but they available at the top and bottom stations.
S. G.
Enjoyed our trip mainly for the ride on the steam train although the scenery was beautiful. On the way back sat in the open carriage and we found it quite cold. Outside temperature was 17c. Needed to be a few degrees warmer to be comfortable. Tickets fair value.
s. l.
The last time I had a ride on this train was before 1983 because the engines where blue,
The journey up the valley is fabulous and we took the open carriage ‘this was a fabulous move as you get a better view and also get all the smells.
My only disappointed is after arriving at devil’s bridge you only get one hour this is not long enough to visit the water falls so you end up just waiting around to go back down the.
I am really surprised that these two lovely attention do not work together.
To sum up
Definitely a great train ride.
J. T.
If I could give 6 stars I would. Fabulous journey on this railway. Beautifully kept station at Aberystwyth and Devils Bridge. Was well worth the extra for traveling first class. Staff are wonderful and friendly. Well done
S. C.
OMG!
Absolutely loved going on this train ride, we went from Devils bridge to Aberystwyth and back, we had a could of hours in the town between the trains, it was evident that the routes and times we went were less busy.
Being able to take the dog on here was a major plus and the views were just stunning, definitely recommend
E. J.
Great little train journey, went through the valley and up to the highest point. Amazing views. Only down side is if you sit in the open carriages you will get covered in soot. A very enjoyable day.
The cafe when you reach your stop to Devils Bridge is lovely. Perfect dor a drink and a bite to eat, and very dog freindly.
A. H.
Unfortunately we went on a rainy day which, on the one hand, kept us entertained for an afternoon but on the other hand, the scenic views usually available towards the top of the line were lost in cloud. Nevertheless we viewed it as money well spent. Quite an experience!
There's plenty of free parking at the Aberystwyth station.
J. C.
If you go first class, it has small, old fashion chairs and no beverage service. Plus, you have to return on the next service in 1st class which means you don't have much time to explore devil's bridge. Your best bet is to sit in the open bench section. It is far more economical and views are amazing.
S. D.
What a surprise! the scenery along this railway just gets better and better, as the train climbs and weaves its way around what can only be described as a breathtaking route along the side of a idyllic valley flanked by the Cambrian mountains. Even on a dull over cast day the views are to die for.
J. p.
Beautiful journey from Aber to Devils bridge by steam train.
K. P.
Loved it. Especially as it is super dog friendly
A. R.
Start off very helpful and informative staff members, odd thing to mention but the toilets are worth a visit, absolutely 5☆ immaculate, this is a well organised well kept well maintained station, fantastic journey with marvellous views, Devils Bridge very good too, had to rush as took later train, morning was fully booked, nice cafe and bar at Devils Bridge. Well worth a visit, dog friendly,
W. A.
A beautiful route from the seaside at Aberystwyth up to Devils Bridge. The railway clings to the side of the mountain climbing all the way up. Not a huge Great Western fan but the locomotives and coaches are turned out in a very high standard. A free car park right at the front of Aberystwyth station is always a bonus especially if you have a large family. All the staff very professional and pleased to help, may I mention Gareth went the extra mile. Locomotive staff very willing to answer the same questions that they get every day. The only down side was with pre booking and have to stay on the same train you don't have time to do the long walk at Devils Bridge to see the falls.
D. P.
If you haven't done it, do it. It's worth it, especially if you're going to do the devil's bridge walks at the other end. I would advise sitting outside for the views unless it's bad weather. A true steam experience, with amazing views.
C. M.
Beautiful trip up a steep and picturesque valley. Well worth it. Nice walk to Devil's Bridge at end. Hotel, some gift shops and cafe there too
I. M.
.. A bit expensive, but it was a one off and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Train was spotless..would defo recommend this .
S. C.
Great little railway up through the mountains
E. S.
Great little train, stunning views.
K.
Best steam railway I have been on, friendly staff and well organised. Views were great too. Was also nice that you can bring your dog a along for a small fee and they even get a treat!
T. N.
Nice journey through the Welsh countryside, about one hour each way. If visiting the waterfalls at devil's bridge be aware that there are many steps mainly made up of the rock and some are very high and steep steps. If you're physically able though it is well worth a visit.
M. S.
Great steam train journey and staff are fantastic and helpful
S. B.
Lovely little railway! Beautiful views as you go up. Has a lovely coffee shop in Devils Bridge where you have about 20-30 mins to get a drink and food. Open and closed carriages. Friendly staff. Good shops on both ends of the line. Dog friendly! Worth a visit!
D. W.
What a ride. Wonderful scenery as railway hugs a niche on the valley sides. Good views of locomotive working hard too.
D.
Very basic carriages - bare wooden benches are not comfortable! 1 hour journey to get to Devils Falls, amazing views of the valley & red kites abound. BUT train only stays 1 hour, not enough time to see falls. Consider getting early train & coming back on later train. Nice pub around corner. Staff friendly & helpful. Dogs allowed!
A. O.
Went there with the family, including children 8 and 4 year’s old.
We all enjoyed the trip on the steam train.
It’s worth bringing some snacks and toys to keep the kids distracted in the train.
Landscapes and views are beautiful.
We then did the 10 min trip to the 3 bridges, bring £ coins to access the bridge area.
S. J. H.
Be meaning to do this trip for a while, as it was recommended to me for the views and photography opportunities.
This was early May, so the trees wouldn’t be in full leaf. It’s a great trip, highly recommend it and the whole place is run by great people
S. F.
Stunning views along the valley on a lovely restored steam locomotive and carriages. Great cafe at Devils Bridge and we'll worth a walk around the gorge and waterfall (steep climbs and lots of stairs, though). You can even be a 'driver for a fiver' at the Devil's Bridge stop 😀
T. S. H.
Aaaahhhh... Amazingly beautiful..
The weather was not that hot that summer time. Was having a cold breeze.. nice actually.. was sitting at the open air carriage area when we climb up... and inside when we going back...
The smell of the steam a bit strong when you decide to sit outside.. but it was quite a wonderful experience ...
Lovely!!!!!
A. S.
A delightful hour-long trip through stunning scenery to Devil's Bridge. The only - minor - negative is the brief wait time at Devil's Bridge before the return journey: 75 minutes was only just long enough for a very quick visit to the falls.
A. K.
Stunning views and amazing experience. We took the 1920 train with our dog, we didn't have any issues. The staff were friendly and they did everything for the visitors to make the most of this fabulous trip. And there is a free car park!
K. C.
Super trip! Very beautiful train journey. Takes about an hour each way. The views after about the first 20 minutes are amazing. Waterfalls, valleys and hills.
D. P.
We went on the stream train along the valley and the views are outstanding.
J. M.
Beautiful rail journey and the various stations on the route look great for stopping off either for food or beauty spots if you can make a day of it on the days with a more frequent timetable. The cafe at Devils Bridge also has lovely food such as the Welsh Tea.
L. S.
I was a bit unsure whether this would be worth the cost, but it turned out to be a lovely experience. The station staff were very friendly and the views along the way were beautiful. We saw Red Kites flying on one part of the journey and the experience of being on a steam train was also enjoyable. The trip is an hour each way, so if taking children with you then perhaps take something to entertain them as the novelty did wear off after awhile for our daughter. The Devils Falls the other end are also worth seeing, but you do have to pay £2 each for this. Overall a nice experience on our Welsh holiday.
B. S.
Thoroughly enjoyed our trip on the railway, staff and volunteers were great! Beautiful scenery along the way with quaint stations dotted along the track. The loco's are well looked after and are a credit to the crews and maintenance staff who work on them. Hope to return soon and highly recommend a visit!
A. C.
Great steam train experience. Once you get out of the town, you have some wonderful views. I liked the idea of the voucher to spend in the shop or cafe
I. R.
Another of Wales' great little Railways. Stunning views and friendly volunteers.
B. R.
Spectacular train trip last around one hour each way. The views are wonderful and it gives you an opportunity to see Red Kites in flight.
Cafe at the destination is also good.
Need to check departure times in advance. The trip cost per adult was £30 which is a little pricey but on the whole, definitely worth the money.
S. E.
Lovely steam train ride through stunning countryside on a railway originally built for transporting lead and timber to the coast. Amazing views as the train climbs the hillside to Devil's Bridge. Would recommend.
T. R.
A great experience for my daughter and the grandparents. Fantastic views over the valley, too.
D. P.
Really lovely views from a great journey on a beautiful steam train. Friendly helpful staff (especially Simon). Would definitely recommend, waterfall walk was beautiful
A. S.
It's a nice ride to devils bridge kids can get a bit bored as it takes an hour but they loved climbing the steep steps and they got to drive a steam train for a fiver each there's also a place to eat a chocolate shop and gift shop cost 60 for 4 excellent day out
B. K.
Worth the price. Enjoyable for all age groups. Would recommend Devils bride as boarding point as it is a bit more family friendly.
V. T.
Thought this was a bit expensive at first, but turned out to be well worth it. The open sided steam train was fun, even if we did get a little bit sooty from the coal. (Not too bad, but we did find it in our hair and on our clothes. It brushed off so it wasn't a worry.) The views from the train were spectacular. Nice way to spend a few hours.
C. W.
Brilliant fun for the whole family. Open and closed cabins available. A great day out
J. S.
Over 60 years since I last did this trip, and I loved it!
c. H.
Absolutely brilliant great value for money. Amazing views.
W. C.
Absolutely stunning ride, however if you have a fear of heights this is not the train ride for you. Silly as it may sound as you going to a waterfall it did not accur to me that we would be so high.I was petrified and had a massive panic attack. Thankyou to the lovely becs who worked in the cafe, who offered a car ride back down to earth. Forever grateful x
F.
Great little day trip up the railway and down the hill again. Only down side is the devil's bridge being blocked off and being asked to pay to see it. This should be made clearer or there should be some offer for train passenger. Great way to see the views
A. S.
A wonderful way to spend a couple of hours. You can either take the return journey straight away or visit Devils Bridge and take a later train back.
Z. L.
Not a cheap day out but an enjoyable trip up the mountains to Devils Falls..if you want to see the Falls I'd advise catching the early train up and the later one back to give you enough time to see the Falls.
S. H.
Loved it, managed to pick a beautiful day for a trip and the views were magnificent. We even saw a golden eagle we believe based on the markings on it….
J. N.
Amazing way to spend time when in Aberystwyth! Views are breathtaking and the whole trip is memorable. Definitely take glasses to cover your eyes and prepare yourself for a good shower afterwards! Ash is everywhere.
M. W.
One of the great little trains of Wales. A stunning journey with wonderful views. It takes an hour to do the 11 3/4 mile journey and you have an hour to view Devils Bridge and the punch bowl. Very impressive and a great day out. At £24 each it's not bad value once you consider the running costs of such a railway. If you do give aid you get a voucher and this can be used at the railway for food etc, so it does knock the price down. Staff are great very helpful and gave good information.
I. S.
We had a delightful trip along the valley to Devils Bridge. The Staff at the station and on the train were very friendly and helpful. Fantastic views along the way, especially as there were no leaves on the trees. The seats were a little uncomfortable but we were in Third Class carriages!!
D. B.
Epic hour train journey! Gorgeous scenery. Well worth the money. Everything kept spick and span.
J. P.
Amazing... Beautiful scenery... Very friendly and helpful staff... Well worth the visit, and definitely go again👍
P. G.
Like all the 'little' trains of Wales this one is brilliant. Great views at a slow and steady pace take you to Devils Bridge. You can combine the journey with some walling in a lovely valley!
C. D.
Great adventure fantastic scenery. Lovely cafe at Devils Bridge. Recommended
S. M.
Travel 12 miles in a steam train climbing 666 feet on it journey. Built to the narrow guage of 1 foot and 11 inches to devils bridge
P. L.
Great scenic miniature railway, fair price for ride, about an hour each way, fantastic view of rheidol waterfall from train,

A beautiful morning out. The sky was blue and steam was in full action! The railway winds through the stunning mountainous landscape where you climb as high as the red kites fly.
After an hours journey you have an hour to mooch around. It isn't quite long enough to walk down to the falls and bridges but there's a lovely cafe at the station for sandwiches, cakes and coffees etc.
On the way up it was quite chilly, although the sun was shining (April) but I'd recommend wrapping up warm if you've chosen to sit in the open carriage.
Set off at 10.30, arrive at 11.30, lunch until 12.30 then all aboard back again arriving at 1.30.
Well worth the money, a really lovely way to spend our family time.
Thank you train🚂

One of the best train rides I have had a real good cafe at the end of the line I can recommend we had a great time 👍
F. P.
Fantastic nostalgic trip and great view of waterfalls on track around top station of Devil's Bridge
B. S.
Lovely trip from Aberystwyth up to Devils Bridge with our 2 dogs. Time to walk to the falls for a quick visit and get the train back.
I don't think our dogs were overly impressed as train ride is quite bumpy with numerous rattles.
W. T.
A pleasant trip up the valley lasting one hour. Sit on the left hand side facing forward for the best views ( the other side runs up against the cliff face for much of the journey).
All the staff were friendly and knowlegeable. You will have one hour at Pontarfynach(Devil's Bridge) before your return journey. Sufficient places to get refreshments at DB. Access to The Falls is £2; you need to be fit and have good balance to get up and down the access route. All the stations and facilities were in very good condition.
J. C.
Good trip out, bit on the expensive side but didn't mind too much when found out ot all goes back to the railway, would recommend nor sitting in a closed compartment in the heat, the stops didn't help
M. B.
The train ride is very expensive.... but worth every single penny. The views are breath taking and being pulled by a steam train is the cherry on the cake. And when you arrive at Devils Bridge, well that's an adventure all on its own. I can't recommend this enough. YOU WILL LOVE IT!!
C. B.
A bit on the pricey side for adults, but as it all goes to the upkeep of the railway a good investment.
The trip is an hour in each direction and the veiws are breathtaking. A must see/ride for visitors to Aberystwyth.
A.
1/3 is not much of a view but when you do get a view it's awesome. The train itself takes you back in time, which is awesome!
J. W.
Lovely steam train journey through glorious scenery to beautiful Devil's Bridge. Friendly staff.
I. S.
An enjoyable trip through Rheidol Valley in the Cambrian Mountains from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge.
N. B.
Beautiful steam hauled journey to Devil's Bridge. Make sure you have a look at at the be falls when you get there.
K. H.
This was great! Great that you can take dogs. Kids ans adults loved it!
C. L.
Cool little train with open carriages so don't wear your good clothes. Very attentive to time so you had better be too.
R. E.
Excellent ride on the train. Compartments with thick poly sheets between in the open carriage. Felt very covid safe. Thank you
J. C.
Took my 3 year old son and partner he loved it and we did too amazing experience great day out with the family
S. E.
Fantastic journey, incredible views. Would recommend staying longer than an hour at the top to make the most of the trip.
C. K.
Awesome steam train from Aberystwyth to Devils Bridge through some of the most beautiful countryside. Views are spectacular across the valley and a nice climb up to Devils Bridge. Cafe at Devils Bride for a quick cuppa before heading back.
M. D.
Beautiful trip up the valley with a choice of open or closed carriages. Friendly staff. Food available on the station at the Devil bridge end.
K. G.
Lovely journey up the valley. Shame that there is no free entry to the falls for people who have used the V of R R to get there. At least the scenery is free.
H. G.
What a lovely experience! Such friendly helpful staff. The view of the valley is spectacular. Just what we needed!
B. B.
Fab trip to Devil's Bridge, we really enjoyed it!
W. K.
A Great Day Out. Superb Scenery.
J. A.
Fantastic railway and freindly railway
H. C.
Great narrow gauge steam railway with friendly staff and good facilities. The views all along the route are epic, would go again.
C. T.
Beautiful scenery. Amazing day . Staff very helpful and polite ..just perfect
A. B.
Excellent and free parking. The staff are great and obviously enjoy their work there the journey is just the right length and there is a pleasant café at Devil's Bridge and a Chocolate Shop great for small presents
R. S.
Wonderful scenery and lovely journey. Everything is so clean and tidy, it's clear the staff take great pride in the railway
A. L.
Great value for money. A lovely experience.
J. D.
Very nice, takes you back to how it would have been back in the day, all the sight sounds and smells. 1 hour each way with an hour stop just long enough for a cup of tea.
T. E.
What a wonderful and well kept railway. Our last day of a week in Wales rounded off perfectly with a trip on this awesome old train and narrow gauge track.
It doesn't matter that the weather was over cast, once the train pulled us up into the hills, the valley below provide the rest. Stopping once to fill up with water and on other occasions to change points on the track. We finally ended up at the last stop of Devil's Bridge. We stopped for an hour, then back on the train for the journey back to Aberystwyth.
Perfect, would definitely go on it again.
We took the 10:30am train that returns at 13:30 there is another outing at 14:00. So if we go again, we'd likely stay at Devil's Bridge and do the long walk then return on the second train.
D. R.
Excellent little railway with some beautiful scenery. Well worth a few hours of your time.
D. S.
Very good railway and well run and maintained. The only problem we had was not enough time at devil's Bridge but that was due to the coach company we were with
B. L.
Excellent day out, aber to devils bridge then get an hour in devils bridge and then back to aber. Our little man loved it. Seemed like a lot of money for a train ride until you actually see how much effort the staff put in all very happy, friendly and helpful. If its on your "i may do this" list move it up to the "lets do this" list
T. A.
Excellent narrow guage railway with panoramic views of a National Nature Reserve and a footplate experience for a £5 at Devil's Bridge during school holidays; what's not to like? Ample free parking the cherry on top.
E. A.
What a beautiful day for a train ride - the views were spectacular! I had planned to leave and return on the morning train, but the waterfall walk at Devil's Bridge easily fills the hour the train pauses before returning to Aberystwyth. So take your time, do the walk and return on the afternoon train! Enjoy a lunch at the Haford Hotel (gluten free and vegan options available), buy some amazing chocolates from Sarah Bunton, and get some scones at Two Hoots Cafe!
I will definitely return and do some exploring of the intermediate stops next time.
G. R.
Well kept heritage line with comfortable carriages and beautiful locomotives. Good value for money considering the distance/time that you are onboard. Great scenic views along the way
M. A.
The railway itself was great. Lovely journey through beautiful countryside. The staff were helpful and cheerful. Just a bit disappointed by not having enough time to walk the falls at Devil's Bridge because you only have one hour there before catching the train back. You have to pay to walk the waterfall walk which we understand because tourism contributes much to the economy but there are better falls to see for less in the region. But as a steam train journey it is well worth going.
C. A.
Top class visitor attraction for those who may be intrigued about riding a narrow gauge steam train to Devils Bridge, with spectacular views of the local woodlands and valleys.
V. S.
A great ride up in an open carriage behind steam engine number 8. A fun day out.
A. J.
Amazing day out, well worth a visit
m. w.
A very nice ride up to Devil's Bridge. Shame you can only go up and back on same train with 1 hour at Devil's Bridge. £33 return seems a bit like some if hills around there I.e. steep!
r. m.
Great steam train ride to Devils Bridge. Great views and ticket can be used as a rover ticket for the day.
t. m.
Lovely train ride through the valley. Definitely worth riding in first class!
L. J. M.
Absolutely breath taking scenery. Loved the railway. Amazing experience, all the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend
A. H.
Lovely day out, beautiful views and lovely staff.
M. O.
Beautiful journey up to Devils Bridge, the scenery was breathtaking. An enjoyable hours trip each way. Book a closed carriage if you dont want any charcoal or soot blowing your way, or if you feel the cold. Such a shame there is not enough time to visit the falls and walk around them. The cafe was nice as was the chocolate shop over the road
R. W.
Well worth a visit good value brilliant scenery, very friendly staff.
M. S.
Lovely little train , great ride up to Devils Bridge, from Aberystwyth or the reverse... dramatic scenery! Friendly staff.
M.
Great experience with wonderful views on the trip behind a vintage steam train. Well worth a visit and the money. The cafe at Devil's Bridge station is a little gem. Great bacon baps.
T. E.
Took the train from Devil's Bridge to Aberystwyth. What a beautiful ride high up on the valley of the River Rheidol. Well worth doing.
D. H.
Really fantastic train journey, with breathtaking view! Well worth going to have a look.
R. N.
Another great little railway of Wales, spectacular views of the valley, if you're wanting a bite to eat at the other end expect a bit of a que. Also at the devil's Bridge end you can pay a £5 for a short ride on the footplate of a small steam engine.
P. M.
A little expensive for a family of 5, but a good journey up to the three bridges and the staff are really pleasant.
N. S.
Brilliant! Best views are from the middle if the train in the open air cars.
G. T.
Excellent trip up and down the valley.
Excellent staff.
Very friendly, informative and helpful.
Sit on the left of the carriage on the way up as it has by far the best views (on the right on the way down).
Sit next to an opening widow if you plan to take pictures, windows can mist up quickly.
If you plan to visit the Three Bridges & Punchbowl as well, have 2 x 1 pound coins ready for the un-manned turnstile.
If you plan to visit the Waterfall and nature trail, best be super fit/agile as you only have 1 hour till your train leaves to come back again.
During covid rules with 'secure' booked seating, you have to catch the same train you caught on the way up. Not much time for exploring.
P. W.
Stunning scenery ,well worth the money .
h. S.
lovely journey staff friendly and helpful weather keeps fine
C. H.
A lovely trip up to devils bridge, takes around an hour, beautiful views across the valleys, well worth the money, £24 return per adult with gift aid.
P. A.
A lovely little line with some great view up there and a lovely little line with some great staff who were easy to to talk to the train was nice and clean it was well worth the money for the trip
C. T.
I took 3 of my kids on the train last week and they all loved it. Excellent journey through the mountains and some brilliant views. Due to covid you only get an hour up at Devils Bridge which meant a quick walk to the "Punchbowl" and some ice cream. We still thoroughly enjoyed it but it will be so much better when all the covid restrictions are lifted and you can fully appreciate the walks. Excellent for taking the kids.
T. J.
Wonderful scenery on this excellent train trip - worth every penny of the fare. The Toilets at Aberystwyth station are not to be missed - fantastically restored! Well done to the many volunteers for all your hard work.
t.
Stunning trip up the valley. Beautifully turned out engines, and coaches.
J.
Great ride through the valley thr train driver stopped to save a sheep, nice
L. S.
Loved it well worth the money weather was sunny which made it even better.
K. B.
Stunning views and a very enjoyable experience. Not suitable for people who don't like heights.
L. H.
Lovely day out. The route the steam train takes is beautiful with so much to see. Takes just under an hour from devils bridge to Aberystwyth. You are able to admire the steam trains at both stations. It's a little bit pricey but worth the money.
r. S.
Lovely ride to Devils bridge
Beautiful scenery and the train travels high level
L. D.
We really enjoyed our trip up to Devil's Bridge. Lovely to see a genuine steam engine in action. Staff are really friendly and welcoming. Even a good downpour didn't spoil the day. Highly recommended.
C. 8.
Well worth a visit. Brilliant views and scenery.
F. M. N.
Wonderful journey up the Rheidol valley with great scenery at every turn. Staff made us feel very welcome and loved them coming out to wave us off. Every thing was well presented with brass work gleaming on carriages as well as locos. Cafe at Devils Bridge was good value and we enjoyed a jacket potato before rejoining the train.
K. K.
Lovely views and can take a nice walk to devil's Bridge. Nice but if the train is busy there are a lot of you queing for a drink or to go to the falls. I would have have coffee in the cafe then go to the bridge when everyone else is walking back
C. L.
Loved this trip
b. h.
Can't get over the work that has gone on in making this a good tourist attraction. Just look at the Ladies washroom. Spotless.
The staff are welcoming and helpful.
K. O.
1 hour (each way) trip on an old steam train - quite expensive but run by volunteers on a non profit basis so worth it.
V. H.
Fantastic little trip through the valleys. It is expensive though. Due to covid restrictions there isn't currently enough time to do the Devil's Bridge waterfall walk which is a shame. You have to travel back on the same train in the same carriage so only get 1 hour to explore. Beautiful well maintained steam locomotive.
S. P.
Fun ride. The walked to the bridge. Did the short walk this time, will be back to do the long walk.
M. S.
One of the best little railway trips we have ever been on. Staggering scenery. Recommend the open carriage to get all the sounds and smells of this brave little train. It would be nice to have longer at the top to walk the longer Devil's Bridge path. (10 mins down, and an hour to come back up with these ancient knees! 😁)
T. O.
Great, very enjoyable experience, travel in old fashion
A. H.
Beautiful authentic and scenic railway for families and walkers alike.
S. P.
Great train ride enjoyed by all.
R. W.
Well worth a visit, a really nice day out!
L. H.
What an amazing journey! I would highly recommend this.
We chose the open carriage as it was so warm and also thought it might be better with covid.
My husband loves trains so was fascinated by this experience. The views are stunning.
Plastic perspex sheets between each family unit so felt comfortable and organised.
We had an hour at Devil's Bridge before we had to return. It would have been nicer to maybe have an hour and a half, as we could have done the longer walk. I understand that would be difficult.
Also it isn't made clear that the price of Devil's bridge isn't included in the fare, although I understand they are different attractions. Considering Devil's Bridge is cheap, it wasn't an issue at all.
Would recommend.
k. C.
Great little steam train.
G. A.
Absolutely fantastic day out. Scenery was amazing. A highly recommended visit.
r. s.
Very well run attraction. A good day out for children of all ages.
A. M.
Beautiful drive through really spectacular countryside, can also been seen from a different angle by riding their steam railway.
M. C.
Great day out. Different pace of life. Shame the Covid restrictions mean that you can't spend more time at Devil's Bridge, but still a nice experience with fantastic views of the Rheidol valley. Well maintained and professional with multiple trains and good access at each end. The small stations along the way are very pretty.
m. H.
Nice steam railway. Nice journey up into the Welsh hills. The chocolate shop at the top sold amazing ice cream. The devil's waterfall was not that impressive but the railway was much enjoyed by the kids
S. H.
Absolutely brilliant is all I can say
B. V.
Really enjoyed the trip although the weather was too hot
G. T.
The train ride was great, nice old steamer up the mountain with nice views, even getting to see red kites soaring up the valley, the bridge itself was good to.
If I were to gripe about anything it would be the time you had to spend at the bridge, the chance to take in all the bridge had to offer you is far to short, as no sooner do you get to the top you have to come back to the train to return 😔
A. S.
Nowhere nice to wait for the train, limited history but expensive book shop, lovely cafe at Devil's bridge...
M. R.
Wonderful railway with stunning steam engines. Beautiful ride and lovely facilities. Honestly, the toilets at the station in Aberystwyth are something out of grand designs. Just like stepping back in time. Highly recommended.
G. C.
A 45min jurney with a steam train. Very nice views. Does not worth £30.
a. m.
Very nice steam railway.. a bit expensive to actually ride on though
M. S.
Great steam railway with fantastic scenic journey with beautiful views.
A.
Excellent place to visit
M. S.
Stunning views of the valley for half the ride, but the other half of the ride is very unscenic, and boring for children - so be prepared to play I spy a lot...
The staff were impeccably friendly and helpful, the little engines and carriages very clean - but the track is somewhat bumpy, again making a rather uncomfortable, long ride.
The views of the valley do make up for it, for grown ups, as they really are stunning - but my boys aged 4 and 9 weren't particularly engaged.
It's a pity that the restrictions mean you don't currently get time for the walk around the waterfall, but the area does seem somewhat commercialised from decades ago, which is a pity, as the cabins spoil the experience for me.
The tea room at the station is still excellent, however!
C. R.
Beautiful ride to Devils Bridge on a historic train. A must do if you are in Wales.
J. B.
A better journey than expected with spectacular views as the train climbed to a considerable height. The disappointment was that there were no sandwiches on sale at Aberystwyth station (despite the web site saying there would be) so we had to join a slow-moving lunch queue at the Devils Bridge cafe which left inadequate time to view the falls.
S. E.
We had a lovely afternoon in the railway. My husband said the Gent's Toilets at Aberystwyth were best he had ever been in.Very helpful staff.
J. B.
Great railway experience. Beautifully looked after railway, and a lovely ride up and down the valley.
M. K.
Good expirience just seemed a bit expensive as it said on the website that the ride is 1h, then 1h to explore the place and 1h back. When we arrived the conductor said that we have approx 45 min to explore, 44 min is definatelly not enough as on of the devil's bridge trails takes around 45 min to walk. To pay 85 pounds (3 adults and a child and a dog), apart from couple of good sights on the way there and back didn't really covered that cost.
J.
A must do if visiting the area for stunning views from Aberystwyth to Devils Bridge.
m. c.
Great day out, well worth the experience, stunning scenery.
R. G.
A unique and lovely way to see the mid Wales Valleys!!
Well worth the price of admission!!
This is a well maintained Narrow Gauge Railway, boasting the Legend that is the Great Western Railway!!!
It's a clean and tidy environment, that encourages you to look out of the carriage, rather than in it!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the journey, there and back!
I will return next year, when I come for my annual holiday in Rhayader!!!
J. E.
Lovely trip from Devils Bridge to Aberystwyth and back through the mountains and countryside
i. h.
Fantastic journey through stunning countryside.
M. G.
Fabulous heritage railway, with friendly knowledgeable staff, original rolling stock and dog friendly!
C. U.
If you like the narrow gauge, you won't be disappointed. The first couple of miles are uneventful, then the line starts to climb steeply, twisting and turning as it clings to the valley side. The views are great and the sound of the engine working away is fantastic.
C. W.
100% recommend great steam train, views absolutely breathtaking, massive thank you to Barney for making our experience that little bit more special. Definitely worth visiting. Great it's dog friendly too.
J. W.
Beautiful day out but I'd suggest a luscious picnic instead of queuing for the cafe, you only have an hour between trains
K. S.
Brilliant trip even though weather a bit rainy.
d. f.
My Son and Daughter in law took my grandchildren and their Grandma and Great Grandma on and said it was very good They let my Grandson's up on the footplate of the Steaam Engine and they let them blow the whistle
B. B.
We've booked for the next day, but fantastic staff found available seats for us, so we could go.
Worth every penny. Fantastic views. Great day out.
J. C.
Beautiful place to visit loved the steam train amazing view really worth a visit
S. B.
Beautiful scenic and well worth a trip!
R. M.
Fantastic! Pay the extra for first class if you can - well worth it.
l. h.
Lovely train ride ,take a cushion, its an hour each way and the seats are quite hard. Beautiful views , an hour at Devils Bridge is not long enough.
S. C.
Too expensive and for how long you are seated on the trIan they are not comfortable at all .The staff were friendly
A. W.
Good site all amenities where good ......bar, swimming pool and bar meals and amazing location
L. L.
Brilliant excursion to take, and a bit of history to truly appreciate the steam railway. Breath taking views, across the vale of rhediol which leads you to the devils bridge. Ensure you have a few pound coins to hand to use to get in to view the devils bridge
J. S.
Great experience. Steam journey through lovely Welsh countryside to devils bridge. Don't wear white as plenty of authentic soot in the air.
S. L.
£23 per adult and 13.50 per child and £3 doggie ticket. Worth spending the money. First class carriage doesn't allow dogs so if your not a dog person maybe go for that carriage as it seams people love to take their pooches for a trip on the steam train, and why not. The views a truly beautiful even on a wet rainy day and when the sun comes out be prepared to be stunned. Once at your destination there is a little cafe and gift shop selling an assortment of sandwiches, cakes drinks and sweets at very fair prices. Devils falls is just a short walk down the hill and is well worth the walk at £4 per adult and £2.50 per child, dogs are welcome on leads. Please pick up your dog's mess and take it with you, don't hang the bag in a tree as that makes picking it up an utterly futile exercise. The walk consists of a very large amount of steps down to a small metal bridge where you cross a small gorge. The views both down and back up are epic, getting back up the steps is fairly strenuous. Anyone with walking difficulties or lung capacity issues could struggle. There is a short walk on the other side of the bridge for just £1 each but there are still a few steps to get down to the water. Back up at the railway you can have a go at driving a steam train for £5 or have a foot plate ride for£3. Trains leave at 10:30am and 2pm and take an hour to get to their destination, of you get the morning train you can stay for an hour and get the next train back or stay for afternoon and get the last train at 4:15pm train back. All in all a fantastic day out.
R. N.
A bit pricey, but you can see where the money goes to give a quality experience
C. C.
Great fun family day out, well worth it!
D. R.
We enjoy our trip to see Devil's Bridge. Spectacular sceneray all the way.
P. A.
This is the most authentic of many old world railway experiences.
S. C.
The views are so amazing traveling behind the steam engine going to and from devils bridge
r. m.
Lovely experience in a steam train and the views were so beautiful.
G.
Coming from a map guide, Best railway you can visit in wales.
S. J.
Little busy but great
Ice creams at the top
L. A. T. C.
Firstly: top staff: happy, helpful, friendly and very efficient 🙂 We had a delightful day here. The train ride was delightfully nostalgic on this narrow gauge steam train, with stunning and beautiful scenery. Lots of great views down a deep and steeply descending valley. There are closed and open carriages and I particularly enjoyed my return journey in the open carriage, which provided great opportunities for photos and video...... loved it ....... we'll bring a different batch of family next time 😎
J. C.
Great experience for the family. Staff were very friendly and chatty too.
The trip itself was great, we took the open sided carriage and the views of the countryside were great. There was enough time to walk from the station to the Devil's Bridge and back without rushing. Check the train times if you wish to take the longer walking route though.
M. P.
Wonderful journey on a great little train. Beautiful scenery.
R. H.
Some wonderful views and a worthwhile experience.
S. J.
The history of the railway is fascinating the staff go out of the way to be helpful, the journey to devils bridge is very scenic with amazing glimpse's of the river & valley below. At devils bridge are the falls that are not for the faint hearted but a must to do, the descent into the valley is brilliant. Jacobs ladder, all 100 uneven steps was done with heart in my mouth but very satisfying to have done. The assent along the side of the waterfall with viewing areas was breathtakingly beautiful. Definitely a must to do, as is the punch bowl across the road, a hidden gem that is a must to visit, I will leave you to find out why.
A. W.
I enjoyed this experience not least because the staff were all really friendly and very helpful. The views are lovely and I found the carriages comfortable. The family ticket was nearly £60 which seems expensive but I recon their costs running this line must be high. Bear in mind that entry to the falls is an additional cost. Overall I'd recommend the experience.
L. M.
This was one of the most beautiful scenic sites of Wales I've ever witnessed. Firstly it is pricey at £30 a ticket, however, even for a miser like me I don't think I would pay £30 anywhere and get the Cambrian mountains jaw dropping views. If you do go for the outside carriage option be sure to wear something warm as it is quite cold even in the middle of August. If like me you were consoderong not paying it then stop fighting your scrooge side and pay it. I can't give you an opinion on devil's bridge as I stayed and had a coffee instead of visiting the bridge. In a nutshell it's amazing go for it.
z. m.
If you're in this part of Wales definitely go on the train it's fantastic. The staff are also fantastic and helpful shout out to Will Smith who is a gives a fantastic welcome. Also dog friendly 🐶
S. W.
The best steam railway I've been on and some spectacular views, especially on the last ascent towards Devil's Bridge. The journey lasts about an hour, covering about 12 miles of varying countryside; open fields, woodland and spectacular views of the valley. The railway is narrower than the usual railway, which means the train and carriages are also narrower, but this didn't affect the space inside as even on weekend in the middle of summer, there was plenty of room. You also have the option to upgrade to first class, however, there's not much difference to be honest. A really good day out and you get time to explore Devil's Bridge, which is a really lovely location.
W. C.
Great views all the way along the trip. Tickets allow you to travel on all train trips that day. The Steam engines are great, stopping at the other end so you can view and take pictures. Wonderful coffee shop at the top which do fantastic paninis. Great shops and walks at the top also. All in all a great time!
C. B.
Beautiful trip through the valley on an old steam engine, wonderful way to spend the day. It would be better if the train times allowed for a longer stay at either end before returning, it would allow chance to take a proper walk around devils bridge or have lunch at the Hafod pub
A. R.
What a fantastic experience, as the train climbs higher and higher, the views get better and better. The volunteers are friendly and very helpful.
J. G.
What an amazing trip we had to Devil's Bridge!! The scenery was stunning on the way up. Would highly recommend taking this journey on the steam train.
Z.
Amazing all round. Staff were amazing, helpful and so happy. Beautiful train ride, worth every penny! My son loved his first train ride. Thank you for such a wonderful time.
B. M.
A nostalgic experience, whether or not you are a steam train buff. The scenery en route to Aberystwyth is spectacular. As this is a popular attraction, be mindful of the fact that you may not be able to just turn up and purchase tickets. However you could always grab a drink in the on site café or nearby pub. You also have the option of visiting the waterfalls. An adult return ticket for the ride is about £25.00.
D. M.
One of the most beautiful experiences of my life, the scenery was breathtaking. The train itself felt like you were going back to older better times. Absolutely beautiful experience so glad I got it into my life.
P. &. A. H.
Excellent railway journey up a beautiful valley
A. S.
Lovely little train ride, stunning views of the beautiful Welsh hills and valleys. We travelled from Aberystwyth to Devils Bridge and finished with an awesome tour/trek around the Devils Bridge. Amazing
d. r.
Great hotel, helpful staff. Good car parking next door. Handy for night out in Swansea
r. n.
Best narrow gauge line in Wales. Brilliant scenery and excellent locomotives. Good coffee shop at Devils Bridge. Recommended
J. H.
Loved it. However, only just about an hour at Devils Bridge allowing only time for a very short walk down steps to a waterfall. No time for the longer walk.
C. W.
I love this trip on the steam narrow gauge railway. Takes approximately one hour in each direction with a break at the top where there is a lovely cafe
S.
It was a lovely trip up to Devils Bridge, only had an hour there as we all had to catch the same train back due to COVID. This meant we were unable to do the woodland walk etc.
S. S.
Lovely experience, friendly staff. Toddler enjoyed it but did find it long.
Would be better if they had some sort of commentary about the place and the journey and the train.
L. H.
Nice excursion however I thought it was very pricey and if you are doing the punch bowl you only have about 45mins to walk from the train to the venue ticket area. So if you go on the last train do not be late and allow time to get back to the train. Not for the faint hearted its a rather brutal 40 min walk if you have any health problems. However if you go to the devils bridge it's a much easier walk and less time consuming. However both are stunning... Plus the view from the trains are second to none...
A. M.
Excellent value for money, and well organised.
The ride was smooth, and Covid measures in place, were better than I expected!
It was a pleasant journey from start to finish.
M. M.
What a wonderful experience.
Friendly staffing, everything so beautifully maintained.
D. B.
had agood day for it interesting going up fantastic comming down sit at the front carriage going up which becomes back carriage going down clear 360% veiw back down ,like a different train journey.

Excellent trip on the train. Went in an open carriage as it was a lovely sunny day. Great views & fun for all the family.
P. H.
Absolutely superb railway line and throughly recommended 👌
J. B.
Great day out at gala yesterday will be back once museums are open. Very friendly staff too.
T. B.
Fabulous scenery. Very professionally run. But would be a little expensive for a family
B. P.
Train coach's can become quite cramped almost as if it's been overbooked. Bought first class tickets and spent the hr long return journey sat on half a seat with my grandson on my lap due to the fact he had no seat even though I'd payed for one for him. Other than that it was a great trip.

What a lovely railway. A fantastic journey on the steam train. But I must mention the toilet facilities at Aberystwyth. Wow! I have never been in toilets so posh. Love all the GWR fittings especially the loo roll holders!! Also lovely baby changing facilities, by far the nicest and cleanest I have ever used. Well done.
E. D.
Love this train journey up the mountain to devil's falls, second time we have done this, I really reccomend riding in an open carriage so you can take everything in
B. B.
What a fantastic and friendly railway. I was on a very brief visit to Aberystwyth and unfortunately did not have time for a ride on the train. I had enquired about visiting the museum which is actually not built yet, after leaving the booking office the lady came after me and asked if I would like to join a tour of the workshops for a voluntary donation. I was more than happy to do this and had a great tour with a history of the line thrown in and all the future plans for the railway. Great customer service & I am definitely going to make the effort to make a return visit in 2018 for a proper return journey along the line.
S. H.
Really fun day out, closed carriages better on a cold day the toilets where you embark we're immaculate too. Little one loved it.
R. L.
Great little railway, various engine types in use. Beautiful views and the trip to Aberystwyth and back is long enough to feel like you have had a good outing for your money. Stop off on one of the stations and try some of the valley walks.
H. M.
Excellent steam train experience - worth the money - not cheap but good 1hour train through beautiful valley and back again, with a stop in the middle - nice cafe. Devil's bridge - which is the stop in the middle -disappointing that you have to pay and also not suitable for toddlers/carrying babies. Lovely carriage and train ride though.
C. B.
Beautiful journey up to Devils bridge .. touch expensive but worth it.
R. H.
The journey starts at Aberystwyth station and winds its way up to Devil's Bridge. Views are great. Can be crowded so upgrading to 1st class not a bad idea. Good cafe at Devil's Bridge station. Only a short walk to the bridge itself.

Superb trip to Devil's Bridge!
20 years ago, while in Aber for University, I never had the joy of riding the VoRR to Devil's Bridge but was very glad to do so in April 2019.
We (me, my wife and 6 and 3 y/o daughter) rode the train on a beautiful sunny day up to Devil's Bridge. The train is immaculately kept, the new station is fantastic to use (no need to get stuck in traffic at the town end of the road), the staff are friendly and welcoming and the train runs to time!
We took the 10:30am train to Devil's Bridge and returned on the 2:15pm train back, with just enough time to visit the various attractions in Devil's Bridge. We were a bit pushed for time prior to departure so the cafe were able to serve us our lunch (baked potatoes) in recyclable takeaway boxes which we were able to eat on the train.
Our girls really enjoyed the railway and it was a brilliant day out.
It is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for here and is therefore good value.
A. H.
Had a lovely time on this steam railway. Fab scenery, nice time spent at devils bridge before return journey. Highly recommend
C. B.
Fantastic railway, amazing locomotive and carriages
M. E.
Just beautiful. The engine's are so special, you can't beat the sound and smell of steam.
Views on the trip to Devils Bridge are memorable. Get there early if there is a group of you to ensure you can sit together, it's worth the wait.

Amazing ride on the steam train..
Felt very reluctant to pay the money for the train ride but in all fairness, its a train ride I'll never ever forget!
Steam powered train for 7 miles? It was an absolute pleasure to ride along with, and the train conductor was so amazing, the amount of effort he put into making people laugh, have conversations with and even let some kids try out the train horn..
Best money I have ever spent!
Ride along for that amazing feeling, eventually steam powered trains will be a thing of the past but proudly say you tried it 😍😀
S. M.
Social distancing in operation. Staff friendly & very helpful. Secenary fro railway breath taking. Walk to Devils Bridge hazardous, no footpath in places. But well worth the walk from the railway station.
J. K.
Really great day out, on a bonus side the cleanest gents I've ever seen.
A. L.
GOOD day had by all weather was perfect and a nice resting around at devils bridge one hour 40 mins stop over while your @ devils bridge nice cafe there and pub for quick pint or book prier for meal
S. H.
Historical train, authentic and nice. Not sure about the first class tickets, might be a bit of a rip off. The benches are nicer but if you don't sit in the very front, your view isn't much different from second. Bit pricey, but worth it. At devil's bridge you only have one hour before the train returns to the station so you won't make the longer, nicer walk.
R. M.
Great steam railway, really enjoyed the ride thru the Welsh countryside
L. G. H.
A super ride on a gleaming steam train through the Vale of Rheidol and up to Devil's Bridge. Fabulous!
S. H.
Awesome train journey , views of the mountains, river and valley stunning . A must
N. B.
Took the family on the "Fish & Chip" special last week. Despite the rain, the journey to Devil's Bridge which takes an hour has some amazing views. Great value for money. Even the teenage girl liked it!
S. C.
Really enjoyable train ride to devils bridge and back, only downside is you've only got about 40mins if you wanted to go in to see the devils bridge and gardens, which is not enough time, fortunately we have done devils bridge so we just enjoyed the train ride through some wonderful scenery, although you could do the smaller walk called the punch bowl but be prepared to go down and up a lot of steps.
P. B.
If you love steam trains and scenery you will love this. I did the journey from Aberystwyth to Devils Bridge and back through the vale of Rheidol in June with a wheelchair bound friend. The car park at Aberystwyth is free and although disabled access isn't easy the staff were really helpful in getting us through to the platform. The ride itself is wonderful starting off through the low lying area outside the town but slowly wending its way up into the vale of Rheidol which is a magical place. We couldn't access the Devils Bridge area at the end of the line due to time constraints but having visited by car it is worth delaying the return journey to see it in all its glory. The little cafe at Devils Bridge station is also worth a visit good food and reasonable prices. To sum up a great day out and a super little railway.
T. P.
Brilliant railway very friendly staff, great views.
S. D.
I have enjoyed many trips from Aberystwyth and Devil's Bridge over the last 15 years and never tire of the sense of wonder that comes from a mixture of nostalgia, having grown up next to railway line and having dad who worked on the railway, and the ever changing, but always beautiful scenery.
Although a little expensive, I still cannot resist forking out whenever I am in the area. It's good to see some of the profits going towards upgrading and improving the station. The new layout is better as it involves less walking between the ticket office and the boarding area on the platform. Not to mention the fabulous new toilets. They are so authentic and in keeping with the steam era.
The staff have always come across as helpful and friendly. In particular I would like to mention one specific member of your team. Mary has an exceptionally lovely manner on the phone, making customers feel both at ease and important. What a lovely personality! On 2 separate occasions, she has gone the extra mile to make the trip even more special on a friend's 70th birthday and then on my sister's 60th birthday, adding to their enjoyment of their big days. You must be so proud and privileged to have her working for you.

Winding it's way out of the seaside town of Aberystwyth, this quaint narrow gauge journey soon has you navigating the rocky edges of the Rheidol Gorge where you are looking down on the Red Kites hunting over the fields, rivers and lakes below. The scenery is spectacular, the staff are friendly and and hospitable.
Spend a few hours in Devils Bridge to take in the waterfalls and chocolate shop. It's a very enjoyable day out for all ages.
C. M.
It's lovely being on a steam train, a bit expensive but worth it.
A. C.
The train etc is lovely... But it goes to devil bridge and doesn't stay long enough to visit the falls! They don't tell you that when purchasing tickets..
S. A. M.
Definitely worth the ticket price. The views are spectacular & Rob was a font of knowledge whether it was about the train or eating in Aberystwyth.
P. R.
Probably my favourite small railway. Stunning views as you wind your way up the valley. It's not cheap but you're supporting the railway. The ticket office queues can get long at busy times just before train leaves, and first class tickets sell out fast so get there in plenty of time.
M. L.
A great one hour train journey through beautiful countryside with stunning views. Wheelchair users must be able to leave their chair, get on the train and use one of the seats in the carriage. There are no disabled carriages or space to sit in your wheelchair on the train.
P.
It was very fun the veiw was amazing and beautiful
D. K.
Was wonderful with my 2 year old. Lovely view and easy boarding and getting off, would go again
H.
Lovely steam train and beautiful views. Open and closed carriages available. Have around 30 mins when you reach the top to grab a snack. It is slightly expensive though so bear this in mind!
B. C.
The trip is really nice but too expensive. You have to pay more when you arrive to the devils bridge if you want to see something...
A. G.
Great thing to do!
Scenery amazing along route and dog friendly :0)
S.
Me and my family have been on this railway quite a few times. The first time we did was when we went with our dog Lilly. She was very obedient and loved the trip. My brother was a bit overwhelmed, especially by the train's whistle. On the whole, this was an amazing day out for all the family.
N. T.
Brilliant ride on the train with stunning views
T. F.
Great! I go every year and catch it at the halt
N. S.
Sitting quietly near the edge of Aberystwyth, this lovely heritage narrow gauge railway starts alongside the main line. Nearly 12 miles long, taking in breathtaking Welsh hills and valleys up to Devil's Bridge, where there's a nice café and a gorgeous ice cream shop. Well worth the ticket price.
J. V.
Nice track, easy parking
R.
Beautiful picturesque journey on an old steam train. After going on the Gwili Railway near Carmarthen which was absolute rubbish, this was a refreshing delight. Authentic locomotives going at quite a pace. Friendly staff, clean and well looked after with free parking too. The only negatives would be the prices are quite high and they don't offer any discounts for the disabled unless you have someone with you as a carer.
I. W.
A bit pricey on the train ...but beautiful
L. A.
Great trip, views were spectacular, would highly reccomend a ride on the Steam Train to Devil's Bridge.
A. J.
Absolutely stunning views. One of the best railway I have ever been on. An she walk to devils bridge to bottom of the waterfall was breath taking! What an experience!
N. W.
A very leisurely journey through some beautiful scenery. Went on a very wet day but didn't spoil the journey. Nice cafe at Devils Bridge but does get very busy.
P. C.
Fantastic rail journey through stunning scenery from Aberystwith to Devils Bridge, where you can get fabulous chocolate and wood carvings.
To view the falls you need to be fit to negotiate the steep paths.
J. E.
Wow what amazing value for money. Beautiful train journey. Amazing staff and the best public toilets I've ever seen!!!
C. L.
Lovely trip first time here since 1978
J. W.
This is a grand way to spend a morning or afternoon. The station is located near the main railroad station, just behind the "mall" and super market. Ask any passerby. The train goes through beautiful Welsh mountains and valleys at a leisurly pace, stopping often for the crew to change switches in the line. Be sure to check on departure times from Aberystwyth -- we missed the morning trip by six minutes. Take the time to chat with the line's employees, very knowledgeable young men and women apprenticed to the railroad trade.
T. H.
A couple of hours well spent. Take care in thw open carriages as you can get covered in soot from the engine. A pleasant trip up the steep sided valley to devils bridge.
M. R.
Too expensive, didn't travel. Train is nice though.
G. M.
We have been going to Aberystwyth for years and it's the first time we've been on the rheidol railway but we have never seen what is in the vale it's full of surprises and the ride to devil's bridge amazing
S. “. P.
Share an unforgettable experience of travelling by steam train through the green Welsh valley. Great place to stop at the end at Devil's Bridge and enjoy your companions company in the Hoots Cafe not to be missed 😁
B. B.
Great steam train, ride staff were helpful and friendly. Train delivered passengers on time at both ends of the journey. Beautiful scenery and lovely old engines. Try driving the small engine Margaret.
N. S.
Good experience, friendly staff, great steam train trip up the valley, not much time at top due to covid turn around of the trains.
B.
Great ride out with fabulous views.
J. S.
Lovely scenic rail trip
S. G.
Great experience, lots of fun and the views are immaculate.
C. H.
Brilliant great value lovely ride on a steam locomotive through beautiful Welsh countryside. Devils Falls is at the end of it, which is great to walk around. Really worth it.
D. M.
The views from the train are stunning
J. D.
Very overrated. The train ride is very long and not very interesting. The train coupes are rather uncomfortable.
R. A.
Fantastic views ..helpful friendly staff at gift shop and guardsman..wonderful experience..
D. i.
Had a great day out and enjoyed our journey to Devils Bridge and back.
Some great views on the way. Some lovely autumn colours.
j. c.
Lovely train ride on narrow gauge railway through Welsh valley. Real old style steam train and carriges. Twelve miles of track about one hour journey. Very enjoyable day trip.
C. E.
Fantastic ride and views
H. T.
A thoroughly enjoyable day out on the Rheidolrailway from Aberystwyth to Devils Bridge. A nice idea is the "Gift Aid " thank you voucher, which paid for delicious scones and tea at the "Two Hoots" at Devils Bridge. The scenery along the valley is spectacular.
R. D.
Well worth a day out 🤗
D. V.
Was expensive but well woth it can ride inclosed carriage or outside even took our dog Jess
L. W.
A lovely experience the whole family enjoyed
J. G.
Nice train ride
P. L.
What an adventure....steam train journey brought back great memories. Unfortunately return train cancelled due to fire, in fairness the company could not do enough to assist on organising alternative transportation. Special mention for guard given the task to inform us of situation, went above call of duty ensuring customers kept up to date, sorting out drinks where needed... credit to the company, also refunded ticket...well done to all
P. M.
The new(ish) station and ticket office is lovely and the train is a great trip. Staff were all friendly and really helpful. The website and ticket price information could be a bit clearer but overall a good day out.
P. W.
Great day out had a good time.First part of trip going out of aberystwyth not great but soon going up hill into countryside with great views up and down valley.Nice pub when you get to devils bridge or go and see the waterfalls. If you like steam trains this is the trip for you well worth £20 will be going again 🚂
i. c.
People running the railway are very helpful and friendly
j. j.
Fabulous, I enjoy a good old fashioned steam railway ride and this is what this attraction is, so when in Aberystwyth you just have to ride this train.
G. E.
Excellent couple of hours on the train.. beware the paper cups, paper plates, and the cling film cake in the cafe at the other end .....££££****
U. S.
Amazing 1 hour ride through beautiful scenery. Staff in amazing mood, obviously enjoying their job. Great experience, I can only recommend.
L. V.
Amazing views, was a little pricey.
M. T.
Lovely scenary nice way to spend three hours
R. P.
A wonderful journey, winding along an up the steep sides of the valley from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge with frequent sightings of Red Kites, a marvellous way to spend a couple of hours.
n.
Well worth a visit. Spectacular views through the valley. Stop of at devils bridge for the waterfall walk but be aware there are hundreds of steps down to the waterfalls
B. G.
It's gone expensive now but still a good trip watch the open carriage for coal dust getting in your eyes
J. S.
Absolutely amazing experience, staff very friendly. Drove all the way from Bristol just to ride this train and it was worth it! Daughter loved it.
M. C.
Lovely trip very friendly staff
P. A.
Amazing views from the railway. The steam engines and coaches are in exceptional condition, having been recently restored and lovingly looked after.
M. G.
We took our 3 grandchildren on the Halloween train, they really enjoyed the evening. Very well organized, lots of scarry volunteers, we'll go again.
J. G.
Nice trip from Aber, through the valley and up to Devil’s Bridge, with some walks, a cafe and a chocolate
Shop.
P. C.
Quaint old narrow guage railway from Aberystwith to Devils Bridge. First class and Third Class carriages, but not sure what the difference is, we paid £22 for First Class; there is also an open carriage which would have been better for taking photos.
The scenery is stunning and, along with a sunny day, made it worth every penny hence the 5 Star reviewew; highly recommended.
D. C.
Worth it for the views!
S. G.
Very windy but beautiful, people need to be more friendly
J. G.
Stunning scenery. Right good steam train and journey was fine.A great day out.
U. D.
Pleasure to visit, staff very helpful. Trains & carriages maintained to a high standard. We'll worth a visit if you have children.
C. P.
Very nice ride on the train
h. w.
Wonderful ride and views
G. B.
Great Attraction, Fabulous Views and very friendly staff
I. E.
Absolutely fantastic. Thoroughly recommend.
M. G.
Lovely line, very friendly staff. Due to the gauging of the line the coaches are quite narrow, and the ride can be a bit rocky at times. The seats are a little hard and uncomfortable
R. J.
Very friendly and helpful staff (especially Mary) spectacular views and memorable trip on narrow gauge railway. Stock and stations well maintained . Slightly expensive but well worth a trip with exceptional food at the hafod hotel
C. B.
Fantastic attraction, friendly staff with amazing scenery. Dog friendly too. Must do: visit the toilets at the Aberystwyth Station, they were astonishing!
S. H. (.
The views on the ride up, the cafe at the top and the views on the ride down, even though the weather had gotten worse, were all absolutely amazing
A. D.
I've ridden most of Wales' preserved steam railways by now and this one is still a favourite. Mostly because of the scenery - there's just nowhere else to compare with clinging to the side of that valley with the river far below you.
Do try to plan a trip with plenty of time for a break at one of the stations - even in the middle - and a walk too.
H. P.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic scenery on the journey and at Devil's Bridge. Enjoyed this enormously even in damp weather.
K. B.
Narrow gauge steam railway journey from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge through some stunning countryside. Buzzards and Red Kytes abound! One hour each way. Devil's Bridge Falls are wonderous but the pathway and steps are not for the feint hearted.
J. L.
Beautiful trip up to Devil's Falls
L. B.
Excellent attraction.. beautiful scenery and Devils Bridge is well worth visiting. Look out for the fantastic red kites on your journey.
C. B.
Great fun for the kids and some spectacular views as you ride up a beautiful valley. Take some time at the top to go and have lunch at the Hafod hotel. Avoid the railway cafe.
J. C.
Travelled on my own, great steam train and lovely friendly staff
C.
Fantastic day trip. Great scenes and a fun family day out. Love this part of Wales anyway but this is a MUST!!!
M. P.
A wonderful day out. Great staff and super soup at the end of the line!
V. M.
One of the best things to do when you visit this part of the Wales. If one can afford it is a "Must" journey in the narrow gauge railway. Some of the scenery is breath taking.
