Quiet on a Saturday afternoon but filled up after 6pm. Table service was being provided in the afternoon. Not sure if they do food. Toilets are unisex which I’m not a fan of in a pub as they’re usually not very clean later on at night.

First time I was at the venue and it was fantastic. Small enough for an intimate stand up gig but big enough to have a fantastic selection of drinks
D.
Comedy venue, small but great place, close to the centre & places to continue with a night out. Had a fantastic time laughed until my jaw hurt...bar serving drinks & snack food before venue start's.
G. H.
The "Green Room" has a good range of craft beers to satisfy those who prefer these products.
B. G.
Great gig at intimate venue
C. M. G.
Such a great venue for all kinds of events! I hosted an art fair here, I've seen live bands and musicians both locally and from around the world. Friendly staff and great location. Highly recommend!
C. G.
Superb venue, friendly staff and great selection of beers.
P. A.
Great venue. Good space and sound. Great bar next door too.
E. M.
Nice wee venue, a bit small and dark but they do get some good acts.
O. M.
The staff were incredible for a Tech meet up group. Very welcoming and provided a great experience
P. M.
Great small gig venue, with a bar upstairs and beside the seating.
P. L.
Initially I was disappointed as my two choices of bottled beers were not available.
Also you had to arrive very early to get a seat at a table. At one point I sat on the ledge in the entrance lobby as I desperately needed to sit down.
I went to see Dr Feelgood , and I was not disappointed one bit by the size of the room to accommodate the audience, and the acoustics were brilliant.
Exciting being able to stand a few feet away from the stage , and be able to view the old distaneful punk expressions and the excellent guitar playing of Steve Walwyn.
A great gig, and the band members actually smiled at the end of their performance, after an encore, as they seemed pleasantly surprised by the warm Belfast audience and their appreciative reception .
G. A.
Is there a nicer place to have a beer and listen to live music? Love the feel of this venue.
S. K.
Have always loved coming here. Can't recommend it more
J. P.
Mostly come to this venue for jazz gigs. Friendly staff, decently priced drinks. Great wee music spot
j. g.
The preference art theatre standup comedy/ singers /circus carbeart and many more events right in the heart of the Cathedral Quarter for a night on the tiles definitely a place to look up for night out with friends or just a night out. When it's over theres a few good bars to carry on the rest of the night easy to get a taxi as well
W. M.
Loved it in here great beer selection
R. N.
Excellent nite with manuka honey. Danced all nite. Vvv good band. Nice place.. Rita Newberry and company Greenisland. Thank you
B.
Excellent service, staff were so friendly and attentive ❤️
R. B.
The center of Belfast contemporary culture. A must see. Look out for one of the many festivals that they host.
s. d.
Great venue in the city featuring folk/Americana and bands from other genres that may not draw a crowd big enough for the Ulster Hall. Bars feature reasonable selection of drinks. Toilets are ok too.
C. C.
Great venue, fantastic welcoming staff and easy to get to from Central Station/Lanyon Place train station.
G. P.
Been to the Green Room 3 times now and is a very intimate and cool venue for live stand up.
K. F.
Great Venue. Brilliant selection of beers and great bar staff.
p. r.
This a great venue. Last week was my 5th visit, I have seen live bands play here, a spoken word book reading and last Friday a film and DJ set by the legendary Don Letts. The door and bar staff are great here, its an intimate place, and I would highly recommend going if any artist or band you like are playing here. 5 Stars.
J. M.
Been many times to both the cafe and in the venue. Staff are always really friendly, the cafes fab and the venue's great for catching lots of different bands. It is a bit pricey at the bar, halence the 4 out of 5.
D. M.
I was here for an awards evening. The place is central which is handy. It has a bar and the toilets are better than some bars. The space isn't massive but not tiny either. I would guess there were over 50 people at the event and the place didn't feel crowded.
G. M.
Great variety of choice which has thankfully reopened from Thurs-Sun 5 to late. Great provision for visually impaired.
j. “. o.
The main hall puts on a wide range of shows, from poetry to heavy metal. The staff are very pleasant. I haven't spent much time in the green room, but they do ales so I might pop in at some point.
C. D.
An underrated gem in the Cathedral Quarter. Usually great music playing with a wide selection of beer and wine. It's a bit run down but that adds to the charm. I'd recommend it as a place to catch up for a few drinks with friends as opposed to somewhere for a big night out.
K. M.
Always a great selection of entertainment, arts and markets coming through this place!!
J. S.
Great area with both a large room and a side room.
Establishment often runs comedy shows and other entertainment with access to drinks.
Price is great, staff are incredibly friendly and an overall great place to go.
S. M.
Great place for all types of entertainment, small and intimate atmosphere.
J. M.
Friendly vibe means it's ok to be on your own. Lots of lone travellers. Some enjoying a beer from the large range. Others just reading a book and drinking tea. Very relaxed and it's like having a drink in your living room with friends. Check this place out!
N. B.
Excellent venue. Intimate, excellent sound and you can get decent beer (e.g.cans of the very decent Galway Bay/Begyle Goodbye Blue Monday). Would get the final star if you didn't have to walk through a mighty cloud of cigarette smoke to get in and out.
D. K.
Really good for events such as a story evening (tenx9) and the bar being there helps make the atmosphere very convivial. The Green Room next door has a nice selection of drinks too and is great for smaller group's or events. Afterwards you are perfectly placed to explore more of the Cathedral Quarter.
A. C.
Have been here many times for live music and I love it. It is slap bang in the heart of Belfast Cathedral Quarter and is licensed. The larger room is the Black Box. The smaller is the Green Room. There is a bar in both. This is the venue of choice for many of the music and arts festivals that take place annually in Belfast. Not to be missed.
D. H.
It's a decent sized venue but certain things annoyed me about the place with my last visit. For example, we were queuing outside waiting for the doors to open into the larger room. Meanwhile people were trying to get into the Green Room bar area so having to squeeze past everyone. This meant that there was a lot of queue jumping going on. Should be better organised.
C. W.
Venue in the heart of Cathedral Quarter that hosts lots of art events. I’ve attended during New Years Eve one year and also delivered a WorldHost training session here and attended Belfast city council and Cathedral Quarter BID business events in this venue.
Some nice quirky areas and a shout out for the comfy sofa area inside the Green room - the separate room which is found at the front right hand side of the venue.
Both rooms have bars and toilets and there is an entrance hall/foyer as you walk inside.
M. J.
A quant little pub in the cathedral quarter. A small but cosy area with a very relaxed and chilled atmosphere.
There are plenty of events held here from comedy nights to NI Science Festival nights during February.
Well worth a visit
N. B.
Small but good gig venue with wide range of artists. The decor in the main room is basically erm... A black box. Or you can visit the small attached public bar 'the Green Room' for pint and a tasty pizza slice.
D. K.
Too noisy - the only "arts venue" I know where people actually go nearer to the stage to have a chat. A pity the bar isn't in a separate area from the performance space. Basically it's a bar with a stage - which is a shame because they get some really good acts.
F. T.
A fantastic venue with a great program of events. They also do a great pizza. A nice spot to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with a selection of specialist beers and alternative music.
G. H.
It's not a bad venue except for some of the punters who insist on talking loudly throughout performances. The bar in the main performance is usually open. it might be better if it was sectioned off.
f. m.
The is always a variety of interesting events hosted here, from intimate gigs to interactive events like magic shows and drink and draw evenings. Great venue in the lovely Cathedral Quarter of the city.
B. M.
Just had the best night's craic last night at the British Sea Power gig - hadn't seen them in years, so wasn't sure what to expect but it was class! The gig was bunged and the music was great, a polar bear even came running out at one point! Thanks Black box, great night all round :)
P. D.
The Green Room has a great range of, mostly local, craft beers, both in draft and in bottles/cans. The staff are pleasant and friendly, and the place has a wonderful boho vibe. It’s the anti-Wetherspoon!
S. C.
Have been to the Out to Lunch series of (obviously lunchtime) events over the past few years and found them highly entertaining. Light lunch served too so the whole hour or so works really well.
S. M.
Lovely open space for an energetic yet intimate gig. Friendly staff.
J. K.
Excellent place to see quirky entertainment. Some very interesting stuff on during the day as well as evenings! Cosy atmosphere and cheap alcohol
What's not to like?
S. O.
Didn't know about this venue until I attended an event there about beer and cheese. Hidden gem with a good selection of beers. Could be a 5 star, but I didn't get to experience it outside of the event
f. d.
Definitely will be back had the best kind of night... Start a like gems... The show was brilliant... Small area so you didn't miss a thing 😁❤️✌️
D. G.
nice spot, green room has plenty of good beers and a nice place to go for a quiet drink. gets busier at weekends obvs but still nice, some good music on there too. worth a visit!
M. B.
Perfect venue for what we needed it for. Made some great memories here and had many laughs. The Black Box will always be high on my list when reminiscing about my time in Belfast.
k. t.
Great arts venue. Lovely welcoming atmosphere. Anyways something on if you're in town and want to see some local music, comedy or theatre.
a. h.
The black box can be considered as a cultural center... Or a school open for everyone. Amazing how many diverse/interesting events are organised here from local to international music concerts, movie screening, beer testing, temporary art exhibitions... Love this place...
K. H.
Absolutely fantastic venue and very fair prices for the area. If there's a decent band on you'd be mental to miss out.
R. A.
Superb venue. Very well maintained and brilliantly run. Excellent for both audience and artists alike. In a great, buzzing part of the city too.
A. T.
Utilitarian 'art bar' has a lot of events on, I was their when a toddler meet was on, lots of ruddy faced kids called Zebedee with scarf wearing parents.
Outside of the toddler events I can see the appeal, the beer was canny and minimalist inside
R. Q.
Full weekend at the end of the Belfast blues festival. Saturday afternoon rocked with a three band line up.
Sunday was a Thin Lizzy tribute. Very impressive indeed, thank you Tinn Lizzy, big Phil would certainly approve.
The evening opened with an acoustic set by Melanie Wilson, the daughter of our own Speedo Wilson. A very talented young lady. She played and sang some covers AND, several of her own compositions. Well done Melanie.
L. C.
Relaxed venue, all about the gigs, efficient friendly staff. Pretension free space in the city centre. Always an interesting choice of performers
M. B.
Great music/arts venue with a good bar. Actually spilt into two different parts. The smaller green room bar at the front is very different and has free live music sometimes.
S. J.
Good acoustics, comfortable, good bar
L. B.
Went to see Dom Martin Kaz Hawkins and Sam York Belfast Blues Festival. Great atmosphere and good acoustics. Friendly bar staff
J. M.
Friendly staff and a great selection of beers. Definitely worth a visit.
A. M.
It is a place were u sit at tables instead of the usual seating and I find this very rewarding because it brings you closer to to every one which means you can chat to people who u don't know and make more Friends it also has a stage and a bar
J. M.
Love this place! Intimate venue with great acoustics, very friendly staff, and a well stocked, reasonably priced bar!
D. M.
Great venue for all types of events. Attended many events over the years, most recently Nerina Pallot 2 nights on the trot.
D. Y.
Love this venue, just wish we could get comfy seats lol... Programing always first class, tonight wasn't any different.
P. N.
Great place for events like meetups, small conferences or gigs. One small thing to improve is lightning not directed straight into presenters eyes.
S. C.
Great guest beers, ales, and stouts on tap. Good live music, a hub for artsy culture stuff
J. M.
Various nights of comedy, music, poetry and everything in between. 2 rooms, good selection of beers and offers. Nothing really like it anywhere in Belfast
D. W.
Great gig Peter Perret
K. M.
Probably the best venue in Belfast for live entertainment. Friendly crowds and reasonable prices. Check it out if you're ever in the vicinity.
P. G.
Cold beer on a hot evening great stuff. Bar staff a little big on lectures but low on common sense. Otherwise 5 stars.
R. B.
Have been to this venue several times and enjoy it's ambiance and intimate nature. The staff are always friendly and helpful.
E. M.

E. B.
Nice venue in the middle of Belfast's Cathedral quarter. Nice staff and various artist and event scheduled.
J. L.
Like a community club, maybe the reinterpretation of a working men's club, it offers something completely different and as such can be hit or miss. But get a good show and you're in for a good night.
K. J.
One of favourite venues in the city
R. W.
Always an excellent venue. Relaxed atmosphere and the best of live music.
G. L.
Went to see Hazel O'Connor absolutely brilliant concert but disappointed for a lady that was there early & was asked to move because someone arrived late accompanying a Lady wheelchair user & hadn't notified the Black Box. The man in question made us all feel uncomfortable.
