Reviews of 20th Century Flicks
A. G.
Booked the Kino for my boyfriend's birthday and it was such an amazing experience. Dave was so, so friendly and accommodating and made us feel comfortable instantly. I emailed him quite a bit before arriving and he was always quick to reply and always accommodating. He recommended us a local pizza place that we quite enjoyed as we were allowed to eat it during the movie!
A lovely unique little place inside too, filled with films I recognised and films I had never heard of before, so it was interesting to simply have a look around too! Decorated lovely, too. Perfect for any cinema lover, really. Will definitely be back in the future!

Fantastic experience, went for my partners birthday (who’s really into cinema) and we both had an amazing time - we were in the smaller room which has 2 cute little rows of cinema chairs with a big screen in front and cosy seats at the back. The service was unmatched - super friendly, easy and just all round a really nice guy ! We were also allowed to order takeaway to it which was the best - will 100% be returning and 1000% recommend - worth the money for an unmatched private cinema experience ! Thank you :))

Best place ever! I'm so happy that bristol still has such an amazing dvd rental store. The staff are very friendly and the twin peaks inspired viewing room was amazing!
M. F.
It's an amazing place; the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, the range of films off the scale. I rented otherwise impossible-to-find or stream Iranian classics....one on VHS !!
L. R.
Brilliant shop. The small cinema screens are perfect - a selection of snacks/drinks and like no where else I’ve ever been. Their customer service is also out of this world. Cannot recommend enough.
H. H.
One of the best experiences we've had, they're super nice and friendly and allowed us to watch the films we want, will be back before the end of the year! Hopefully early!! Big recommend!!
M. A.
My friends and I had a really fantastic evening watching Chocolat here last night. Dave was a friendly, helpful and very funny host, we ordered delicious pizza in to eat while we watched the film and the space was beautifully quirky, cosy and comfortable. Highly recommend.
P. U.
Great fun. Different to any previous cinema experience....but for the better! Informal and friendly. We have already recommended to friends and family.

A magical realm for small cinema and DVD borrowing. How do you borrow a film that you missed in the cinema? Who has the back catalogue of Michael Caine or David Lynch? Where can we all watch a film together and bring our own wine? 20th Century Flicks. Just love these folks. Just don’t ask about the Human Jukebox. Pride of Bristol.

Great to see a movie rental shop that has been a Bristol institution since I was a kid still around and trading. Took my 10 year old and his mates here for a birthday private screening of a marvel movie and they loved it. The staff were very friendly and helpful in organising.
J. B.
Unique destination for any movie lovers. An unparalleled selection of films - anything you can think of, old and new. Good rental terms and reasonable prices. The staff are friendly & helpful and can recommend choices. It's a great way to find something new, or dig out an old favourite. They also have a small cinema to hire.
T. S.
An amazingly well stocked video / dvd rental shop, staffed by friendly and knowledgeable staff. As an added bonus, they also have two large screen cinema rooms that you can hire to watch any film in their vast collection. We hired it recently for a work night out and it was great fun. Highly recommended.
K. S.
Insane collection of movies, really helpful and friendly staff. We used the little cinema in the back and it was great fun 👌
C. P.
It's a quirky little shop run by friendly staff and one fluffy shop cat. The screens for hire are both very cute with little blankets to keep cosy. The larger screen has tiered seating which is good if you're watching with a lot of people, although it's a little more expensive. They have nibbles and drinks for sale but are more than happy for you to pop down to the Christmas Steps to grab a drink before the film starts and you can bring your own food in.
There are a range of dvds available for rental that the guys will happily go find you, from documentaries to the latest blockbusters and some more obscure films. On the website they have a full list with a rating system.
Would definitely recommend.

This place is one of my favourites in Bristol! The shop has films from all around the world and the staff are extremely helpful, especially if you struggle to make a choice between the thousands of films they have. Extra mention for the cute cat who is always sleeping and looks like is enjoying the vibes of the shop as much as I did.
F. F.
It's just the best place, with the best people, and the best cats, and all the flicks you could watch. And they do a movie pub quiz at the excellent Christmas Steps pub next door. And they do very reasonably priced film screenings in the little kino at the back. And they remade Point Break!? It's all wonderful.
C. R.
Great place for holding a small private gathering at a private cinema in the centre of Bristol. They have an unlimited range of films whether on DVD or VHS tape. If they don't have it in stock they can get it for you. Had a private viewing of Ghostbusters. Fantastic! Nostalgia unparalleled.
M. P.
Love the little theatres, super friendly staff, amazing selection of movies... This place is awesome. We hired the Kino for a Monday morning but because there was no one booked later they gave us the bigger theatre for free. We will absolutely be doing this again
N. D.
Amazing little cinema room out the back with brilliant sound quality and comfy seats! In-house cat who we could stroke was also lovely. Huge collection of DVDs and VHS, I wouldn't know where to start!
C. D.
I've been going here for years and my partner and I absolutely love 20th Century Flicks. The staff are really knowledgeable and friendly. The DVD collection is broad but also up to date and the staff will always have a good suggestion for a film to watch for any occassion. Plus, they have cats!
A. B. K.
The choice of movies here is great. We were looking for international films with English subtitles and this place is a gold mine for that. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the movies and directors from all around the world.
K. M.
Have been twice already. Dave and the team are super friendly, very responsive and extremely knowledgeable about film.

20th Century Flicks is tucked away on the Christmas Steps in Bristol centre, but is worth seeking out if you’re interested in browsing and renting from a massive collection of DVDs and even rare VHS tapes. The inside layout and poster-covered walls preserves the wonderful (and nowadays very rare) feel of the old video rental stores, which is great if you love to physically search through DVD boxes until the right cover art and title jumps out at you. The staff are friendly, talkative and knowledgeable about films. And to top it all off, they have a cute 11 seat cinema room in the back which is designed to look like the Red Room from Twin Peaks, complete with black and white zig-zagged floor… I didn’t expect too much from the cinema as its quite small, but my family booked it for mother’s day to watch E.T and the blu-ray presentation on the projector was perfect, the sound was like being at any cinema, the seats and blankets were cosy and I just had a general feeling the staff truly cared about us enjoying our time in their cinema.

I love 20th Century Flicks. It's been a while since I was last there, but I always leave feeling lucky to be able to go and chat to someone knowledgeable who can recommend films and in contrast to streaming at home, have a decent human experience with.
Today I considered renting Inherent Vice. The idea was validated and I was given loads of other good recommendations. Was also interested to see the new Videodrome screen. Good also to hear NIN on the stereo.
Friendly, cool, and something really rare.
S. M.
Superb film knowledge, delivered with passion and friendliness. Great little cinema.
P. G.
Amazing variety of movies includes many world cinema titles. Staff are incredibly knowledgeable - I get the impression sometimes that they've seen every movie in the shop!
S. B.
This venue offers an 11-seat reasonably priced screen to watch films in and it's a great venue. A gorgeous cat on site and friendly owners add to the appeal!
C.
I like how it's both a video shop and a cinema at the same time. We're trying our best at hiring the Videodrome cinema for a screening of Astro Boy for my 17th birthday. So I would be looking forward to that!
R. S.
Lovely, quirky and unique. Guys there can't do enough to make your visit what you need it to be. Reasonably priced and wonderfully personal. Would highly recommend!
M. C.
My granddaughter had her 8th birthday here, she had an amazing time, the film was brilliant and the staff so lovely, Highly recommended.
S. K.
If I were religious, I would worship at this temple.
C. A.
Cosy video shop that has two screening rooms for private parties. Rented from here for years and enjoy finding out about movies from a human rather than an algorithm.
M. C.
If 20th century flicks do the 21st century version of "going to the cinema" then bring on the 21st century is what I say! What's that you say, Sooty? Oh, it IS the 21st century. Well, bring on the popcorn is what I say! Just make sure you choose a good film.
A. W.
Great video rental store in the heart of Bristol, with two screening rooms and an incredible back catalogue. Well worth a visit.
K. B. (.

(Translated) The owners were excellent, they allowed us to see the small private cinema they have there with only 11 seats. They know a lot about cinema, only in English but they are very nice to chat
(Original)
Excelente los dueños, nos permitieron ver el pequeño cine privado que tienen allí de sólo 11 butacas. Saben muchísimo de cine, sólo en inglés pero son muy agradables para charlar
