Reviews of Potteric Carr Nature Reserve
V. S.
Lovely walk.. very easy to get round.. Lovely scenery, and plenty of hides for bird watching.
£4 for concessions,£5 for adults.. they do child and family tickets as well..and free parking, really good value.
Cafe and shop to enjoy too.
N. g.
This place is amazing for a good walk around there's so much wildlife to see 🙂 it cost £5 per person but is worth it we had a good 4 mile plus walk round. It has a good car park but you can't take dogs there is a cafe which has nice food and is not too expensive and also a gift shop. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area xx
R. D. H.
Great for bird spotters. Also saw pony's and wild deer. About 5 miles in paths around lakes and marshes. Entry of bird hides to use. Nice cafe with some hot snacks available. Tickets £5 for adults, £4 for over sixtys. Members free.
A. L.
A real hidden gem near Doncaster. Several circular walks of different distances with lots of hides offering lovely views and the chance to see native and visiting birds. Great cafe too.
D. M. (.
Great place with lots to see and do with all of the family - nature walks, discovery zones, bird watching and climable animals.
Oh and there's a great cafe and shop too - the prices are a little on the high side in the shop but they are worth it as it is a charity.
Also, look at joining for the year as you can then visit other UK wildlife trusts for free.
A. R.
This is a lovely place to walk with miles of gorgeous woodland trails. For birdwatchers, there are around a dozen great hides, with plenty of really good birding. We've seen marsh harriers, avocets, water rail and (just once) a bittern, with dozens of other more common ducks and waders, and the sound of warblers along the shaded woodland paths is lovely.
And of course, now breeding black-winged stilts!
The cafe is fantastic, and lots of visitors pop in just for breakfast or lunch on the terrace, if the weather is nice. Great home-cooked food, lovely breakfasts and good catering for vegans too.
We've been visiting for more than 10 years, and it is always a great experience.
R. W.
Our family absolutely love it here. It’s peaceful and beautiful, a true wildlife haven.
The butterflies and dragonflies are stunning at this time of year, the tracks are well maintained and there are plenty of maps with ‘you are here’ in case you are a little lost!
There are numerous hides, be sure to take your binoculars and be prepared to want to take lots of photos.
G. W.
A really lovely place to walk and enjoy the wildlife! Just make sure you use insect repellant as the mosquitoes are a bit nippy!
D. C.
This is just an amazing place for nature lovers of all ages. There is a fantastic area for children to use their imagination and have fun. Also educational facilities. The different walks are good for those people who want a short or long walk. The cafe is great and there is a good shop. I would always highly recommend Potteric Carr for fun, adventure and relaxation therapy.

My second visit to this reserve.
It's so lovely to be offered free entry when you're a member of any of the Wildlife Trusts. I'm a proud Lancs member 😉
We were very lucky to spot two deer grazing in a meadow who posed for some photos!
I really like this reserve and the paths and trails are just brilliant - something for everyone, I feel. Lots to explore and plenty of wildlife and lovely wildflowers too.
L. B.
It's a beautiful walk longs you bring bug repellent spray, wildlife galore
C. A.
A lovely nature reserve with a few different walking trails. We did most of them and it took a few hours. There are a lot of observation sheds for bird watchers and photographers which overlook the various marshes/ponds. The cafe serves a small selection of hot food and drinks and there is plenty of seating indoors and out.
M. S.
Recently upgraded visitor facilities at the entrance make this wonderful reserve a truly dull day out. A lot of walking to be done but it's well worth it. Plenty of hides along the way. Wetland and woodland habitat dominates. The cafe looks well worth a visit for lunch.
B. B.
We enjoyed your walk round took some good pictures, but the map of yours
did not really tell us where we were
I. R. W.
excellent, afternoon relaxing. Lovely walk and yes some bird watching but mainly justcenjoying the peace and nature. Walks for all abilities and great visitors centre. Oh and superb sausage sandwich and what are indisputably the best chips this side of the galaxy!!!
A. W.
Nature reserve run by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, good visitor centre with cafe, toilets, and a shop, plenty of outdoor picnic tables dotted around the reserve. There are several bird hides in which you can sit to observe the wildlife but they are all situated quite far away from the various pond and marsh areas, so unless you have a decent pair of binoculars or a far reaching telephoto lens on your camera you probably won't get a good view of the various bird species that are there. Still a pleasant place to visit for a nature walk though
S. M.
Relax rewind, burn a few calories, say hello to nature.
Spend a bit of quality time with your partner, or some thinking time for yourself.
Join YWT, and get free access to numerous sites, and help conservation sites, goodness knows, they're needing help right now. Lots of work yo be done over the next few years.
L. L.
Just had a couple of hours here. The site needs a full day to explore it fully. Lovely Visitor Centre and Cafe with big outdoor terrace and a nice view over part of the reserve. Really helpfull and friendly staff too.
The paths I used were wheelchair and scooter friendly.
I will visit again when I can spend more time.
G. L.
Due to the severe drought many of the pools and ponds have dried up. There were very few birds to see and we only saw a number of dragonflies and other insects of interest. The paths are easy to follow and there are many hides and lookouts. The cafe was well stocked and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. Hopefully with a wetter autumn and winter the reserve will fill again and the usual plethora of Birdlife will return.
M. G.
Great off the beaten track Nature reserve. Excellent cafe and super friendly staff too. Well worth a visit, especially if you've been to retail parks just down road.
A. C.
A beautiful nature reserve site with amazing plant, insect, bird and animal wildlife. Welcoming and helpful staff and a nice cafe as well. Accessible for those with mobility issues and a great learning experience for children.
J. H.
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve with cafe, shop & toilets.
Large reserve with approx 5 miles of paths. Tramper available to hire for anyone with mobility problems.
Lots of hides. Mix of water, woodland & meadows.
Great wildlife spotted here including Hen Harrier, Avocet, Roe deer, Fox.
P. H.
Excellent place to visit. Start off with a cooked breakfast and coffee. Plenty of well defined footpaths to follow and bird hides to use makes a perfect place for spotting wildlife.
C. D.
Lovely wildlife reserve, well worth a visit, good for children. Strong footwear good idea. Nice cafeteria, clean toilets. Plenty of nice walks to keep you busy.
S. D.
Needed a bit of space and nature, this was perfect. Friendly staff and great menu choice. Definitely be back
T. T.
A great place to learn about our nature and walk whilst you do so.
S. C.
Stopped for a break and to show my friend where it was at its well hidden, no matter which way you come at it.
Entry prices have gone up since I last came, but ta least you can get into the cafe for free.
Had a great cuppa with a beautiful view.
If you're into nature or birds this place is for you.
J. H.
Fantastic place for twichers. Lots of hides, and some rarely seen water fowl. Or just a great place for a walk round. If you go anytime June or later, cover up or use mosquito repellent liberally, because if you go in the wooded areas you will be eaten alive. You have been warned!
C. L.
Beautiful for walks and got lots of blackberries but beware of being bitten! Make sure you have plenty of insect repellent on.
N. B.
Lovely place to stretch your legs. Went with my 9 year old, didn't get bored. Plenty of things to see along the way round.
I'll definitely be going back ☺️
K. G.
A fabulous wild place and the Starling murmuration was spectacular
J. M.
Love calm place to walk round, pleased to find the cafe open for take away food and drink .
K. H.
A fantastic place to be. So calm and plenty to see. So many different species of birds, water fowl, insects, animals, plants and trees.
I. M.
Love this place. Great for walks, plenty of wildlife and if you like trains a lot of old railway lines and passing trains on the national network!
Food is good from the cafe as well.
B. B.
£5 to walk round a duck lake with bad sign posting. Got lost. Dog had to have a walk elsewhere. Great jacket potato though.
H. L.
Beautiful place, really nice walks and bird hides, the staff were just lovely and on top of all that, the breakfast was just what we needed, great!
D. C.
Loved the day out. Very peaceful with decent walks and plenty of hides for the bird watchers.
S. H.
Lovely place, cant believe I didnt know about it until this week. Lovely walk & plenty of wildlife to see.
T. R.
A beautiful place to walk around and look at nature. We only did the short walk today but will be back!
J. T.
I went there to see the starling murmuration and have a walk around with members of open county. We walked around the nature reserve and we weren't disappointed it was excellent. The walking paths were really good for visually impaired people & people with disabilities. The cafe had plenty of choice at reasonable prices there was a little shop too.Its a great place for children & adults alike
M. S.
We have been here a number of times and always see something interesting. Today we saw roe deer, heron, egret, marsh harrier and most exciting of all a grass snake swimming in the river. All this just a short way from the motorway.
T. T.
My local reserve, Yorkshire Wildlife Trusts jewel in the crown in my opinion.Lots of varied walks, wildlife aplenty, good shop and excellent cafe.
J. c.
Lovely place for a walk shame not many birds very friendly and helpful staff well worth the visit
H. O.
Great place. Friendly and efficient staff in visitor centre. Reserve is wel managed with several well placed hides at good intervals along pathways over looking water and lots to see. Paths are in good condition and some with hard surfaces but still recommend walking boots/wellies especially in winter. Starling murmurations amazing and apparently reach peak in January. Charge for entry is £4.50 for non Wildlife Trust members. car park closes at 5. Well recommended if you are into nature - or not!
B. R.
Went for the first time yesterday - what a wonderful place. Far larger than I'd imagined with lots of hides. Great visitor centre and friendly staff.
C. L.
Great reserve at the edge of Doncaster, great wetlands to see some great British wildlife. Many scattered hides throughout available to use.
D. B.
Can't believe I lived nearby for so many years before coming here. This is such a well cared-for nature reserve which makes appreciating natural beauty effortless.
A. L.
What a fantastic wetland area, absolutely loved visiting. Top drawer bacon butty also 😍
B. R.
Love it great staff very knowledgeable friendly and advice given on entry to the site smart cafe on site well maintained paths all round the reserve plenty of hides and plenty to see
L. C.
Always a fab day here...other day I just went on my own to paint in sunshine and have some of their yummy food and drinks♡
C. P. (.
Friendly staff and usually not very busy so can get away from everything. Café open. Reduced routes and one-way system in places/COVID.
E. G.
Really lovely nature reserve to walk around, we didnt see much different wildlife, but it was a nice setting to have a relaxing walk. We did come across a lovely little bank vole sat eating a mushroom.
It was our first visit but we will definitely be back
S. D.
Lovely big place, lots to see and do, great for walks and nature spotting
D. B.
Beautiful spot with the added bonus of an excellent cafe. Make the most of it and get yorkshire wildlifetrust membership.
N. T.
An extremely peaceful place to take a walk around to say is surrounded by main roads with the motorway close by.
C. H.
Cafe and outside area nice place to have coffee and reflect on lifes events. So peaceful
W. B.
Plenty of parking with cameras, nice new reception with with somewhere to get some food and drink. Nice big area to walk around. And you done see that many other people about. Hides are dotted around , and have seen deer and mice on the last visit. Very peaceful place. Worth a visit.
M. M.
Fabulous place for those who want a quiet stroll or to enjoy nature. Well maintained paths throughout an area of outstanding beauty. Viewing hides and a cafe and shop. Plenty of parking and toilet facilities.
A. L.
Lots of easy walking trails, most buggy/ wheelchair accessible. A map is given to you when paying. Lovely, clean cafe and shop. Free parking.
J. J.
We went just to meet family, have a walk and lunch. Clearly marked pathways and maps available. We saw people using mobility scooters and wheelchairs on the pathways, but a few areas have steps. There is a shop and a cafe with indoor and outdoor seats & tables. Hot and cold sandwiches, soup, chips as well as hot and cold drinks. There are plenty of clean unisex toilet cubicles each with washbasins (with hot and cold water) soap dispensers and hand dryers. Did we enjoy it?... we stayed five and a half hours.
J. D.
Excellent reserve. It's a large site with different trails with which you can spend some time taking in all the wildlife it has to offer. A mix of woodland, meadow, pools and marshland. I spent a couple of hours here and from one hide highlights included Marsh Harrier, 2 Hobbies & A Bittern! Highly recommended.
G. L.
Did a lot of walking as its a vast reserve. Didn't see many birds today but did see a Marsh Harrier in late afternoon sunshine. Also saw a couple of deer and on leaving we just caught a starling murmuration which was great for the grandkids to see as I'd told them previously what one was but they had never seen one.
H. M.
Good walk around reserve. Some hides were open. Lovely cafe and toilets were available.
B. K.
Great walks. Added bonus with the birds , if your a twitcher. We were casual bird fans. But still joined the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust after this visit. Seems excellent value and lots of places to visit as members
r. s.
One of the best nature reserves in the UK. Plenty of alternative paths and hides and excellent for fauna and flora. Superb new ecological information centre, shop and cafe. Plenty of parking but can be a bit rough in places
D. P.
Wonderful piece of heaven on earth.
You'll meet some real characters in the hides. I never want to leave, the banter is hysterical!!
W. 0.
Lovely walk around. Plenty of different routes to take and lots for the kids to discover.
S. M.
Great variety of habitat and plenty of walks and hides. Good food at cafe (5*). The only thing missing would have been latest sightings at entrance to help those looking for specific birds.
M. W. (.
Lovely reserve, good cafe and the Forest Tots monthly session is wonderful, my daughter loves it and would go every week if it ran!
L. M.
It was really good and surprising on how large an area the nature reserve was. The paths were very well maintained and it will be worth a visit again when we can take a picnic and sit out on a warm day. Hopefully the next time we visit the trees will be in full bloom and more birds will be about.
N. W.
Great place to spend a day walking and taking in yhe wildlife
S. R.
A beautiful haven for wildlife and lonely helpful staff,
F. W.
Beautiful place, lots of wildlife and a nice cafe.
A. B.
Nice walks and cafes are friendly and have good food.wonderful wildlife .
r. c.
Nice walking but Take mosquito spray/cream there biting
S. H.
First visit for two years and it's still as welcoming. A few people there to see the starling murmuration. Unfortunately we missed most of it as they passed over the hide we chose.
B. r.
Relaxing place to visit so many different walks to do so something for everyone. We've seen deer and lots of other wildlife kingfishers if your quiet and lucky! The children can walk around safely although lots of water around but we've never had a problem. Nice cafe but we preferred it when it was in its original place lovely homemade cakes so don't usually bother now
K. B.
Dawn chorus walk excellent morning listening to the bird's excellent breakfast then back on reserve 55 species
m. m.
Boys luved the critters n beastie luvly place
W. C.
Lots of different routes to take around this lovely nature reserve lots of hides for bird watchers
R. H.
Good price cafe and good walk. Even better value if you become a member at a small monthly subscription.
D. H.
Great reserve. Friendly staff. Huge wetland and woodland areas. Loads of birds to look at (mainly ducks!) Vegan options in the Cafe.
G. P.
Nothing on website I can find to say dogs are not welcome, however sign on gate. Also no sign of entry fee. Great place for birds though, will have to visit again.
P. R.
Delightful Yorkshire Wildlife Trust reserve, including cafe and small shop
G. C.
Great walks and plenty of wildlife to spot, cafe is really good with plenty of choice and all reasonably priced
G. D.
Fantastic reserve. A great place for dedicated birdwatchers and casual visitors alike. Lots of events on offer, a lovely shop and cafe and a great venue overall.
B. O.
Saw the Starling murmuration at Severn Arches Carr on Sunday 12th Dec.
G. W. (.
Open at the moment to Yorkshire wildlife trust members but will soon be taking timed visit slots. Check the website. Our visit was on a chilly Misty day and was nice to see the area in a different light. Excellent walk along the red route. Back in time for a coffee and cake in the cafe. All COVID safe
w. m.
First time we've walked all the way round the reserve, fabulous sightings of Marsh Harriers...and a very speedy badger running about in the middle of the day!
C. A.
First visit for a while and since the new visitor centre/cafe established. Great all day breakfast served quicker than expected as it was busy. Staff friendly and efficient. There is a shop, toilets and car parking is close by. Plenty of walks of varying distances and the paths we walked on were generally quite sound and safe despite the recent wet weather and fallen leaves.
J. N.
Great reserve with a good cafe and friendly staff.
R. M.
Very impressed on our visit today, our first since the pandemic, never seen it look this good, a lot of attention and hard work has taken place here, lots more opportunities to explore, sit down and take in naturea sights and sounds, the quality of the water that guides your walk is so much better than before, fish including chubb were the obvious proof. Doors of the hides have been taken off for covid regulations so you could easily see how many people were in. Lots of wildlife to see, good facilities, a great day out.
P. S. (.
Nice place although not much wildlife the day we went , it was very quiet.
V. S.
Amazing place, love the new eco friendly visitor centre, join Yorkshire wildlife trust and come here for free entry all year round, it's well worth it. Explore all the walks of varying lengths. Observe the deer if you are lucky and find the mud kitchen with the kids. Cafe is a must with delicious food on offer. The shop is great for bee friendly gifts and bug houses + lots more. There is so much to say about this fantastic place, if you like wildlife, birds and nature in general then you must come here.
G. d.
Went late afternoon when the sun was going down. Staff were really helpful. Advised us to take a map of take a photo of it. Spent 2 and a half hours having a fantastic walk around it. Don't be put off by the location near a motorway. Will go back.
S. A.
Lovely place to visit for some Fresh air and to be surrounded by lots of nature. The Cafe is okay, the lady that runs it as always been a miserable person. Why cant they serve hot food right up to the place closing. Majority of people who visit like to take time wondering around the reserve and want to get back no matter how late and be able to order some hot food. They would make more money.
J. W.
Such a beautiful place. Had a lovely walk around.
c. a.
Just watched 50,000 starlings murmurating, brilliant! At other times we've seen hobbies catching dragon flies. A decent sized reserve too so a decent walk is possible. Good cafe and clean loos.
I. W.
Fabulous wetlands smack in the middle of industrial Doncaster, but you'd never know! Saw an amazing starling murmuration tonight. Fantastic!
R. R.
Lots of space to wander and a fun spider themed trail for kids. We went when it was free entry in lockdown, but more expensive if you go normally
J. D.
Great reserve with a variety of walks and a good cafe.
C. B.
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust's flagship reserve, just off J3 of the M18 is a fantastic place to spend a day getting lost in nature and it's easy to forget how close you are to civilization. The cafe does fantastic bacon butties. There are options for the vegetarian too. Miles of paths take you round ponds and through woodland where you may be lucky enough to spot a deer. It's kid friendly and a great place to visit whether a veteran wildlife spotter or total beginner.
B. S.
Nice peaceful spot for a hot drink this afternoon.
K. D.
We went for the starling murmuration - an awe-inspiring spectacle. Late afternoon/dusk is the time. The reserve is a mixture of wetland and woodland with a large variety of bird species to be seen. There are a number of hides you can use. If you are a member of the Wildlife Trust then entry is free.
P. H.
Great place to commune with nature; lots of hides to watch the fauna.
D. G.
Nice Visitors Centre with Cafe & walks to see Birds.
M. A. M.
Much larger than we expected, it will be fantastic to visit when the trees are in full foliage and the water birds are there in larger numbers but a great place to visit.
j. m.
This nature reserve is absolutely marvellous with lots to see
C. R.
Lovely little shop with different paths to follow around the reserve. The murmuration spectacle is worth the visit alone. We can't wait to be back with more day light hours!
m. g.
Good place to visit for a day out, friendly staff, good walks, plenty of wildlife.
P. G.
Potteric car is going more commercial, more interested in making money ,than a true nature reserve, and doesn't open till 9.30am,would only visit once every few years from now on,do not think it is worth £4.50,imo, disappointing.
M. D.
Not bad. One of us had a scone qhich was ok and the other had tomato soup which was very watery. The tea was a teabag in a mug and not a pot. Disappointing.
k.
Great place to visit for all ages.
The staff are friendly and helpful and there are different walks so something to suit everyone. We have taken the pushchair on a couple of routes so definitely pushchair friendly.
J. H.
Great place, lovely shop, fantastic cafe, splendid novel items in the gift shop and an ideal way to spend a day walking about in nature. Shame its so close to the noisy M18
T. H. (. H.
Stumbled upon almost by accident and so glad we did. Lovely place with plenty of parking and good access all round for the pram. Excellent Cafe and shop. Now members of the Yorkshire Wildlife trust and looking forward to exploring more venues.
P. K.
It's a lovely place for a walk and see the wild life . And the cafe is nice for a cuppa.
B. G.
This area is very beautiful. Very clean and well looked after. It's a beautiful place to walk round in the summer. A good place for kids to explore however am very confused on why you have to pay. You park and go through a small building and have to pay....but it's a nature reaerve...is it a private reserve? Still nice.
K. W.
Great for spotters wanting to see what's parked up at GBRF old post office sidings
M. R.
Was ok , tucked out of sight would never know it’s there
P. G.
Fantastic place to visit, willbe back soon
K. B.
Great place for an afternoon walk, very peaceful. The staff were very helpful at suggesting routes. Would highly recommend.
W. D.
This is a great chance to relax and see the wildlife 👍
And the bacon butties and cuppa is a must 😁😁
A. J.
Great place for birds, insects and fungi. Lovely cafe and shop.Allow at least 1/2 day to walk around and visit all the hides before tea and cakes!
A. W.
It's been a few years since I last visited Potteric Carr Nature Reserve and it's still as great as it was then, the facilities are great, the staff were very polite and helpful. It's well worth a visit and won't break the bank (even the gift shop was reasonably priced in my mind!).
The onsite cafe was clean with a brilliant seated table area outside.
Will definitely visit again.
A. L.
I'm a member of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust and this gives access to any Wildlife Trust in the UK.
Potteric Carr Nature Reserve has just had a new visitor centre built with new shop, cafe and toilets.
Many different walks around the reserve and you can pick one depending how long a visit you are having. Many hides available on the different walks too.
They also have many events, some you have to book, check the website to see what is on.
C. J.
Entry price is unfortunately a bit too high for what you get and there was a big queue on arrival. How do most other nature reserves operate with no entry fee..
C. K.
Lovely level walks, but traffic noise always in the background. Lots of mosquitoes this week. Staff always helpful.
d. v.
Not much wildlife to see at this time of year. (Nov) need to go a few times to get your bearings for the different colour coded walks.
A. C.
Love this place, on the edge of a major town, Doncaster, right next to a major road, M18, and a haven for wildlife. Went today to see the murmuration of starlings which was pretty spectacular even in bad light.
H. M.
Little overpriced at £4 per adult. The gentleman that served us in the office was polite and helpful, so was the male member of staff we bumped in to whilst walking. However, the lady that served us in the Kingfisher tearooms was a bit unpleasant and just seemed to be in a rush. She barley had any manners and didn't take any pride in what she was doing. Had a nice walk around and would more than likely go again in the summer/spring next year.
S. j.
Quite a surprise can't wait to go back
T. M.
It's a beautiful and quiet place to take a leisurely stroll around. Plenty of bird wildlife to see at the lakes. Cafe on site if you need a bite to eat
J. B.
Can be a bit muddy when it has rained but excellent areas for all to walk.
S. C.
Great place had good views of a Bittern
R.
Been a member for a few years now, love walking here, if you want peace and quiet this is the place to visit perfect. Friendly staff, lovely cafe just a really nice place.
D. D. Z.
A cracking place to nature watch with an excellent cafe. Run by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, well worth a visit and perhaps you might even decide to become a member.
S. “. P.
Easy access, plenty of parking, good marked trails. Enjoyable afternoon out. Café as well.
S. G.
In these times I've been thankful of being a member and being able to escape too mother nature we felt safe and we had a coffee and something to eat
So we had a great day many thanks stay safe 😷
J. S.
Fantastic walks, perfect for nature lovers of all kinds. Mind to wear something long sleeved for the mosquitoes!
G. U.
No child parking but has empty disabled spots often. Loads better than the old building. Requires mirrors in new building I.e toilets if your muddy or covered in insects etc.
L. J.
Really good place to visit, just watch out for the mossies definitely need to wear protection anywhere near water there.
P. S.
Jaw dropping and Awesome! peel yourself off the sofa, don your boots and coat, and head for Potteric Carr. You won’t be disappointed, highly recommend late afternoon to capture the starling murmuration 😊📷
The Starling emanation! somewhere in the region of 50k plus Starlings begin to gather in this remarkable natural event. Taking place at Potteric Carr Nature Reserve, which straddles both rail and major road networks.
At around 16:00hrs small groups of Starlings begin to merge with others in flight. As if magnetised together the group takes shape. Within minutes the mass resembles a swarm like ball, which continually morphs shape as if acting as one. This whale procession begins to swirl around the sky and Mexican wave as it pitches and rolls.

Great nature reserve with a variety of habitats. Good facilities including very clean toilets, good cafe and shop
A. B.
Lovely walk and lovely food and drinks at the café. My two young children had a great time exploring.
L. G.
Great nature reserve with some well placed hides, a great little shop and cafe. Lovely place for a walk.
J. M.
Well set out and we'll maintained yet still more a nature reserve than a park. Staff always willing to answer questions. I will be back in a few days time.
M. C.
One of our best walks this year! We decided to do the long route and saw plenty of wildlife even though areas where out of bounds with Covid
M. E.
Very large area with multiple bird hides to visit. Can be pot luck trying to find where to go to see any wildlife but the staff are very helpful and will direct you to the most interesting locations if asked.
P. S.
Nice nature reserve with a smart new visitors centre. Kingfisher, Marsh Harrier. Some bits were flooded so couldn't walk all the way around. Wish I had more time.
M. F.
Lovely scenery and a nice walk around the reserve, there is also a little cafe in the main building that sells vegan cakes (when in stock) and has a vegan breakfast option!

This Nature reserve is situated in quite an industrial area of Doncaster which makes it a haven for a variety of wildlife. It's very easity accessed from the M18 at junction 3, then just off White Rose Way.
There are breeding birds (particularly Kingfishers) , summer and winter migrant birds (Bitterns), dragonflies, butterflies and small mammals galore.
There is also a brilliant education program for schools with a variety of workshops and an extensive events program throughout the year. There are Family events run in the half terms and summer holidays.
The reserve also have many volunteering opportunities from helping out with the management of the site, to helping in the wonderful Kingfisher Tearooms situated in the middle of the reserve surrounded by lovely scenery.
Pay a visit and don't forget your binoculars!
