Reviews of Croxdale Woodland Trust
L. H.
Beautiful and peaceful walk through young woodland with beautiful views of Durham and lots of paths.
S. B.
Lovely peaceful place; a nice way to spend a few hours listening to the birds and have a stroll beside the river. I got absolutely lynched by horse flies in certain spots but there’s nothing you can do about that, then rewarded by seeing two deer passing beside the Wickerman! Lots of different small routes to take around the area
D. h.
Nice walks, some steep.
Paths & car park being renovated at the moment so will be better.
Great views.

Excellent place to walk the dog. Loads of open space, lots of tracks to walk, a hide to sit it, watching the birds and the occasional deer. Then there's the river with its 'beach'. Fantastic. Our Labrador couldn't keep out of the river, he loved it. Highly recommend for nature lovers or dog walkers.

Small car park , lots of trails to choose from , few things to look out for, the wicker man his wife and chickens, willow tunnel and hide, stone circle , or just sit and listen to the bird song , lovely peaceful place .
T. H.
A hidden gem. Well worth a visit. Car park could be bigger but work is being carried out for a few weeks at the end of June so hopefully they're extending it.
C. N.
Easy way for wheelchairs & scooters, or narrow Riverside walk for more adventurous!! You can spend as much time as you need, as the walk seems very extensive. We need to return and investigate!!!
N. B.
Great extensive walks among newly planted native woodland linking to Houghall and beyond. Although people need to start picking up their dogs poo!

Didn't realose this was here! Little hidden gem. Muddy in places and slippery under the foot but it's been torrential downpours for months.
Stunning scenery. Will be visiting again.

Superb , excellent place to walk.

A small carpark with dirt paths only and no facilities. However, good for dog walking and a breath of fresh air.

Absolutely fantastic river and woodland walks.

Very scenic, but take your boots in Autumn.

A nice walk
But unsuitable for anyone thinking of going there with a pram...
A lot if the ground is boggy and muddy underfoot and very narrow in places.
The wicker people are lovely 😍

Finally found this place and we'll worth it. We spent a couple of hours exploring and will certainly return to explore further. Peaceful surroundings with plenty of bird life. A great change of scenery.

Didn't realise this place was even here. A great find. Lots of woodland and so many different paths to explore. Ended up down by the river. There are some giant figures like a straw man dotted around. Lovely to take the kids for some fresh air.
S. B.
It's really beautiful, has lots of different routes, close to the road and empty in winter. Perfect for dog walks and bird watching.
p. w.
Good for walking the hound 🐾
However main carpark closed so have to park on the main dual carriage way in the lay-by and this makes it a big uphill walk to wicker man
R. W.
Lovely walk with dogs or kids. Different tracks to take, some which lead you down to the river. You can try to find the wicker man or wicker woman (now with chickens).
S.
A lovely Woodland trust site. Walks through established as well as new woodland. Riverside walks too. Part are steep but well worth the walk.
N. N.
We struggled to find parking, I think some people end up parking at the street side. But we find lower Burnhall parking which is easier to access, the view is lovely
N. B.
Lovely open space. Short on parking no toilets or other amenities but plenty of trees, open space and scenery.
E. A.
Enjoyed a lovely 2 hour walk in the snow. Even managed some sledging on the hills with my daughter.
B. H.
Good walking but steep in parts. Muddy at this time of year (January). Some traffic noise from A167.
