Reviews of The Edinburgh Dungeon
S. P.
Positives: Easy to book and to find, helpful staff, well thought with great effects.
Now for the negatives: a bit on the static side, narration off at times, placing people on squares like naughty children (hello, we know how to keep distance 🙄) and ONLY cashless (we know you like the Great Reset but slow down a bit, we like options). Overall a bit deflated.
T. T. T.
Overrated! I’ve never been to one of these dungeon experiences before and it’s fair to say it was a bit disappointing! The various scenes and rides were excellent especially the drop tower at the end! I won’t spoil too much. And if you’re not socially awkward and like embarrassing yourself in front of strangers then you might enjoy it but that’s not everyone’s thing. The actors were very good however you could barely tell what they were saying because of the masks! You also have to wear masks which I thought ruined the entire experience! It’s obviously very hard running a scare attraction during corona times when they can’t jump scare you. I feel the place needs a maze or set of puzzles to complete by using the entire group rather than you watching some story. There was no ‘boat ride’ which I’d seen on YouTube and heard lots about so that was strange?! Probably wouldn’t recommend the attraction for young children under 12 and the main thrill ride requires a 1.4m height limit.
Takes approximately an hour.
Overall, would I go here again? No. It’s quite expensive. Save your money; there’s loads to do in Edinburgh that’s free and better value for money.

Absolutely amazing! Been to York dungeons, Blackpool Tower dungeons and this one was by far the best one! 👍
The witch was definitely my favourite one. You could see a lot of time and effort had gone into the performances which created a real creepy atmosphere for everyone there.
We were even running late so they happily moved us to a later time slot with no problem at all :)
10/10, would definitely recommend!
D. L.
This was a great experience! My youngest found it a little too jumpy but the staff/actors were fantastic. Such a funny, interesting tour. Well worth the money and would certainly look to go again.
L. L.
This attraction was absolutely brilliant I'd been on a similar tour in York with my boyfriend but I went alone but in the company of others on this one There were about 12 of us in the tour and as you enter each room there is a different historical setting and the staff get the visitors involved in some funny but sometimes gruesome stuff sometimes in total darkness At the end of the tour there was a ride that I went on that lifts you to the ceiling about 20 to 30ft and then lowers you very fast just be warned and smile for the camera coming down as it does photograph you and the photo after being purchased makes a great souvenir and there is also a maze which was Brill The gift shop was full of awesome Dungeon memorabilia which wasn't too expensive I highly recommend this tour as I had a Brill time and everyone else did who accompanied me. Cameras are not allowed but they do some photographs of you when you first get there and on the ride as your about to leave which can be purchased at the end of the tour 😊
L. A.
The tour was great and it had loads of different actors playing different parts. There was a nice surprise at the end of the tour which I won't mention as I don't want to ruin it for others! The reason why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because this is one of the experiences which is nice to once whilst visiting the city however I probably won't be going back as I know what to expect. Oh and you're NOT allowed to take pictures inside on the tour.
G. A.
It's okay, nice little walk around and history. It was about £60 for 3 of us.
Highlights are **SPOILER ALERT** the spinning room, the cemetery court with tombstone chairs and the drop at the end. Best for kids really, but still good entertainment for all.
In the end you can pay extra for photos they took of you, which are quite pricey! It is a business, after all.
J. W.
Didn't know what to expect at the dungeon tour when I popped along with my 10 year old son. Thought it was a bit pricey on entering at just over £40 for us both, but all in all it was very entertaining and both of us had a great time. The actors were fantastic and my son found it quite educational and fun at the same time. Would definitely recommend but only downside is it's a bit expensive.
B. K.
Very pleased with the experience. Every staff member and actor was professional and kept in character throughout. The locations you are taken through each tell another part of Edinburgh history. I don't know if the £2 book sold at the start is also available at the end of the tour, but my only thought would be to sell it at the end so that you're not having to carry it with you and you may then want to know more about everything you saw. Otherwise, it was a good scare with some laughs. Cheers!
E.
This place is amazing. Scary and hilarious simultaneously. Would recommend to all as we visited recently with 2 kids aged 16 and 7 and they both thought it was brilliant (especially when dad got tortured with the chappy chopper)! Loads of fun
a. s.
We loved the dungeons but my only criticism would be the sound level. A lot of people in my tour group could not hear what was being said especially when it was the room downstairs with the lady who was in the pitch dark room. Very difficult with the masks but maybe headphones and a discreet microphone would be good
C.
I had never been to the Edinburgh dungeon and always wanted to go. So it was my daughters 18th a few weeks ago and was taken her to Edinburgh for the weekend. I booked the tickets online, because I noticed they did sell pretty quick. The actors were amazing, each act lasted about 5 minutes, it was fun, and loads of entertainment. The only down fall is its not as scary as I thought. But above that we both had a really good day.
M. S.
This was a lot of fun! I was judged as a witch here 😂 I love how they include the audience and how much humor was sprinkled into the tour. If you don't like to be involved into the show you should not join this if you are okay with it you should definitely do this tour.
M. L.
Had a great experience in the Edinburgh Dungeons, honestly as good as, if not better than, The London Dungeons. We were called out several times for the experiences which were always good fun. There was one family that seemed determined to ruin the fun by constantly pulling their masks down, but the characters and other visitors all made fun of them and they were very embarrassed, so smiles all round 😂👌
K. H.
Dungeons were great fun, but the cannibal section could have been better. I remember it from a few years ago the guy did a great job plus lights were on so you could see what was happening. I was asked to sit on stage but the lack of interaction and the darkness made it a bit boring.
A. L.
Direct go in without advanced booking. Pretty dark inside and professional actors gave great entertainment to the customers. Great covid preventions without ruining the automsphere. Cannot take photos inside. Not scary and might need your English to be good enough to understand the show.
D. S.
Actors were brilliant. Experience was so funny and personal. The only bad thing is that apparently I missed out on a rollercoaster/drop and boat ride? Two seemingly major parts of the show. I was disappointed to find this out after the time but I still really enjoyed myself and had a great time. Be prepared to have some uncomfortable but funny and scary experiences. Very fun day out even without the extra parts!
K. J. (.
A fun and informative attraction detailing the more unsavoury characters of Edinburgh’s past. Great acting and special effects and be prepared to join in as an audience member! I found myself doing the highland jig in the courtroom after being accused of being a drunk old hag…good fun

"Thrills & Scares for All!"
A must do if you are Edinburgh but I probably wouldn't recommend for under 10s. The actors were funny, frightening and interactive. The sets were atmospheric and imaginative. The best part of the experience is the audience participation. Even though I'm quite the scardy cat I thoroughly enjoyed the experience especially when I wasn't hiding behind partner with my eyes closed.
C. F.
Had a great time with my daughter. The performers were brilliant and it was an entertaining and spooky journey through the city's dark past. Obviously, given the current situation with Covid restrictions, face masks are to be worn at all times (the performers have some rather grisly looking ones themselves!) but I honestly don't feel like it ruined the experience at all. If you're looking for some spooky fun and aren't afraid of potentially being embarrassed or scared in front of strangers (all in good fun though!), I highly recommend it. Also, don't expect to be able to take photos.
V.
My husband and I booked tickets for the Friday night. Looks like there is no difference between the day and night tours and ended up paying extra. Otherwise it was fun. Few parts were scary but we felt that it could have been better. There is a lot of talking and less scary stuff so felt like a bit of a drag. The last drop ride was fun. Overall an ok experience.
R. T.
Really worth the money. Absolutely brilliant acting. Interactive fun for the whole family.
Expect to be made jump…a lot.
Expect to join in and have loads of fun while learning interesting historical facts.
G. B.
Decided to try this tour using our Clubcard vouchers. Definitely recommend, good fun, the actors are really good and fully immerse you in to the story. I’d also recommend booking in advance.
K. H.
Even as a 29 yr old woman, I was scared. However, there were children there and I'm a wimp with these sorts of things!
Thoroughly enjoyed, the characters are brilliant and super informative. Love the fact you get to play parts, if you're picked!
C. B.
It was a good effort on all staff involved. Kept pulling up an Italian that couldn't speak English which was hilarious. Went to the London dungeon 15 plus years ago which have to say with Jack the ripper was far superior. Not a fair comparison but the actors/ actresses where on point. Only thing I'd recommend to improve was the witch table in main room and the autopsy room was pretty lame. But drop tower fantastic judge fantastic and the torture weapons guy great actor. Souvenirs where decent too!
d. k.
Nice experience, my 8 year old enjoyed it so much not super scary, staff are really doing hard work with love 💕 , but I think Covid rules affecting the show and may be better in ordinary days, I really expected more or something near to London dungeon level.
G. B.
Very entertaining!! The actors were good and full of life! Not super scary but they’ll give you a jolt! Visited 10.31.21
P. T.
Super fun, with plenty of jump scares. Actors are fantastic, and really funny. Very accommodating to my wifes mobility issues and on the ball with covid guidelines. Really fun
D. S. (. S.
Loved every second. I have been here twice, once with a group of friends and the other with my partner. The time with my partner seemed to have had a few stages missed out that were available before but overall a great experience and I got a laugh out of my partner turn white as a ghost lol!
D. G.
Great fun.. definitely one to visit when in Edinburgh the actors are awesome with audience participating. Not super scary for young ones but a couple did get scared.
t. w.
Absolutely fantastic attraction!
The actors put in so much effort and put on an amazing show.
An absolute must when visiting Edinburgh.
Worth every penny!
C. M. (.
Decent , audience participation is guaranteed 50/50 chance you'll be picked for something , some jump scares . Good expierience and the drop ride was good fun at the end , once you've done it no point going again
M. T.
Interesting bits of the darker side of Scottish history, great actors and fun for the whole family. Suitable for kids, not too scary and had a good laugh.
S. T.
Very inactive and fun! Far better than we were expecting. All characters were 💯 in their roles. Definitely recommend
D. M.
A must when visiting Edinburgh. This is a great way to spend 11/2 hours. The experience from start to finish you go through different rooms which interact with the audience. The actors are fantastic and all have a story or two. The last room has a great surprise and don't wish to say much more as it would spoil it. Just a little negative you're not permitted to take photos as there is an opportunity at the end to purchase photos. One photo costs £10. The more photos you buy cheaper it is of course. Great family experience👍
V. J.
The place was so nice!! We Gad a lot of fun, the toilets were even funny to. We learned a lot about the history. And on top of that it was also really entertaining. It was also a little bit scary. I would probably not recommend it for children under the age of: 12. Because it was so scary. There are flashing lights. Me and my best friend sat together in a room were a man came up to us while the lights were flickering and when it turned back on he scared us.!
Also amazing guides!! I lovedddd itt 😍😍😍😍
10/10 would really recommend. It’s a bit expensive but worth all the money! Definitely go visit it if you are in Edinburgh!!

Great attraction, marvellous staff/actors and well engined rooms/pantomime! A bit pricey though, but I assume it goes along with the marvellous craft! Recommended, especially in a rainy day!
S. 1.
Fannnntastic!
My partner and I really loved this experience.
The actors are amazing and absolutely hilarious! Very interactive with the guests which was brilliant!
We loved every minute guys, keep up the great work!
Hang 'em High!!!!
C. J.
A good thrill and jump scare, all done with the safety of the public in mind. Clean and well presented each room keeps you guessing as to whats going to come next.
L. M.
This was my second trip down into the dungeons, the first being years ago pre-Covid. Glad to be able to say it’s as enjoyable as ever, even on a return trip! Still scary, still immersive and, best of all, still surprisingly funny despite the horror theme. Seriously - I found myself laughing out loud! If you’re in the area, be you tourist or a long-term Edinburgh local, it’s a remarkably gripping tour through some of the city’s dark history. The climactic finale involves a drop ride that I hadn’t had the guts to try on my last visit, but this time I faced my fears and the thirty odd
foot drop beneath me!
A couple ways to improve the experience (just to put a cherry on top) would be to offer a lanyard for people who want to go on the tour but who’d feel a bit intimidated by the audience participation. My partner felt nervous at times and was worried about getting made to stand up in front of everyone (meanwhile, I was crossing my fingers that I *would* be chosen!) Just a way of making sure that everyone can enjoy the scares in comfort. Also, would really love to see the return of the cannibal boat ride! It was the highlight of my first trip and I was gutted to walk past it this time. The minute I hear that the ride’s back up and running, you’ll see me running down Princes Street to delve into The Dungeons for a third time!
J.
Good experience but I think its the sort of venue that you'd only visit once as thr suspense and surprise element is gone after the first visit. Nevertheless I do recommend this place for families with kids as they will enjoy this a lot. Blue light card allowed me to get discounted tickets which is a plus.
P. C.
What a chllling and fun experience.
The staff put on a fantastic frightening show. Performance and story telling was brilliant. Won't say no more as you need to visit yourself to get the amazing experience .
L.
Great attraction, I didn't know what to expect but great effort from staff to create spooky experience with Edinburgh at the heart. not suitable for nervy kids I think.
P. Q.
The experience was amazing even my 12 year old girl enjoyed it although she was scared the whole way, sonny bean the witch judge mental the green lady and more I'll be back for the adult Version
J. B.
Great family day out. Kids and adults will love it equally. Actor's do a great job.
K. S.
Amazing as always staff are super friendly helpful and always in character we got lost and one of the characters had to come find us made it into part of the act and stopped me from feeling like a idiot 🤣 loved the witch part and the torture chamber was a highlight would have loved to take pictures but understand why it's not allowed 🤣 fantastic for a good scare
L. F.
Me and my partner had a great time!
Couldn’t fault anything with the experience, great actors!
Would come again.
M. N.
Hilarious show. If you like somewhat childish yet fun horror humour then this is for you, I’m definitely trying the 18+ show soon.
L. O.
Wouldn't bring kids here I found it pretty scary but it was so much fun, I had a great time :)
p. s.
Good experience - probably best suited to families and young adults! Actors were excellent
C. J.
Superb creativity. Very good characters and plot. Worth every penny. 70 min long trip including two rides. Very talented actors and you wont get bored during the entire show. I have been to other dungeons across UK but this is the best I have visited so far. Highly recommended.
A. W.
Went here on a recommendation and had an absolute blast! Part history, part horror, part play, but all 100% engaging and enjoyable!
M. K.
We absolutely LOVED Edinburgh Dungeons. We have visited almost all of the dungeons except for Edinburgh and London and were looking forward to this one. It did not disappoint. We had such an entertaining 45 mins or so and didn't expect this one to have both a boat ride and the drop dead ride 🥰🥰 We definitely recommend to others to visit. For us, we have Merlin passes, but if we didn't, this is definitely worth paying for. Even got a cute photo frame from the shop at the end. 👍👍
C. E.
Brilliant! The actors are great 😂 Had great fun and learned a thing or two aha
P. M.
This is good Tour. Has to be taken as a fun Tour. £21 per person.
K. D.
Some great acting and good to hear some of Scotland's more gruesome tales. Shame they don't mention the height limit on the drop ride at the end as the kids were disappointed not to be able to have a go.
E. C.
Had an excellent Halloween visit here. Wonderful actors and staff with very cleverly designed sets. Plenty of audience interaction and you're never bored moving through the rooms and floors. Was quite busy but had a brilliant time nonetheless.
B. G.
A fantastic yet haunting experience through Scotland history. Actors were engaging and terrifying. Must see attraction.
S. B.
Brilliantly funny with the horror of historic story's of pain, plague, judgment, cannibalism, witchcraft and Murder.....
The new part for 2017 on witchcraft is very well done with great effect. The story's are great and well told an give an insight into Edinburgh's darker past...
Staff are great, my partner has a sensitivity to strobe lighting and we were warned which parts contained strobe effects and was guided to a safe place to avoid them during the tour.
B. B.
If you manage to use a voucher or find another discount this isn't bad value for the entertainment provided. The staff are enthusiastic and animated, the sets are decent. There's a very brief 'drop ride and there's various areas where there's interactive parts to the seats etc... If you like your history embellished and twisted, this is for you.
A.
Good location as only a few minutes walk away from Waverley Station so managed to squeeze this in before heading back down south.
Interesting historic stories and great actors. Was hoping for scares but didn't jump at anything unlike the rest of the group.
Have to say I prefer the London Dungeons as found it more entertaining but still a good excursion none the less!
D. C.
Absolutely loved this experience. From start to finish, everything was such a laugh and very informative. The actors really put their heart and soul into it. It is definitely worth going to the dungeons, when visiting Edinburgh. Will definitely be back
f. f.
Amazing place! We enjoyed our visit very much, the show included lots of fun and laughter and a few screams and squeals! The staff was very entertaining and did a fabulous job. My family and I had a brilliant time and that final drop was scary but SUPER. Definitely recommend visiting even though it is a bit pricey, but it was worth the fun!
N. C.
This is a fun way to learn about Scotland's history that the entire family will enjoy. The staff is so enthusiastic and the witch that is on trial is amazing! We completely loved this experience. We bought front of the line tickets through Viator (online excursion business). +Also, for Americans, watch putting up the peace sign in Scotland, depending on which way your hand is facing it either means peace or F.U. Big difference. #LOCALGUIDES
J. W.
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience with my partner, the actors portraying various characters did a great job making the experience fun and safe.
D. S.
Brilliant activity. My 11yr old son describes it as "a spine chilling experience". Great fun with laughs and jump scares.
J. P.
Acting and interaction with cast was very good. Final ride is worth waiting on and there is a good build up to it. Definitely worth a visit, as a lot of preparation and rehearsal has gone into the show. It's a one-time, worthwhile visit. A little expensive at over £21 per ticket for the hour (approximately).
K. G.
Oh this place was fantastic I loved every minute of it. The guides are dressed up and are brilliant at what they do, there is a lot of interaction with the crowd, not to many people go round together. But masks must be worn it's mandatory in Scotland indoors. It's very warm down there so would advice a warm coat but not a big winter one like I had on I was perspiring 😊 and ended up carrying my coat. It's a great tour and so well worth going to have a look. And it's not scary at all. Good guide very knowledgeable.
R. M.
Great time in the dungeon, spent a while waiting. Definitely worth it if you're into your scares and comedy, less so if you want to soak up the city!
C. O.
Very interactive, interesting family friendly (despite a bit of gore) and a highly enjoyable experience I would easily recommend - to a tourist or even a citizen! It's enjoyable for all. Only unfortunate thing is that the history was a bit inaccurate and I never seen any disabled entrances for wheelchairs - we went down a lot of stairs in our experience
R. L.
This is a Amazing attraction! A must to experiance if you have never sone it before! It is kind of like a haunted house with real actors doing the scaring. It is one of the best haunted house I have ever been to. There were rooms of many different themes. The entire tour took about 1:15 hrs and it was really worth it!
B. K.
First time to the Edinburgh Dungeon. Really impressed with it all especially the unexpected surprises. Great fun and all the characters were great. Will definitely do it again
S. J.
Was so much fun! I can see why they request people not to video or take pictures. Going in not knowing what will happens makes it so much fun and is so crucial for some parts. All the works were lovely and worked so hard! Even the gifts hope gentlemen was extremely polite and helped us out 😁
J. H.
Absolutely amazing tour , best I have ever been on . So much to see while on this tour , you won't have a dull moment .😁
M. L.
Absolutely amazing! The acting was brilliant, thrilling and funny it really brought life to history. They involve you in their tour of the dungeon which I thought was great it was very interactive. Would 100% recommend!
J. N. (.
Had a great trip today to the Edinburgh Dungeons. Even better than Tesco Clubcard vouchers covered the entrance fees!
The actors were all really fun and clearly enjoyed their moments.
Would recommend to anyone visiting.
A. S.
What a brilliant experience so unexpected. I don't want to give any spoilers but if your into horror and not afraid of a good spook definately to this
N. V.
Lovely experience.. Definitely a MUST experience. Its very well designed and the whole story line and acting by cast is phenomenal.
N. G.
A good experience. The scary level is in the medium level
S. V.
Great experience.. fun .. the actors were great getting everyone involved .. definitely recommend
B. W.
Entertaining and perhaps better suited to pre-teen and early teenagers than later teens but definitely something different
R. J.
Great tour. Fun and unexpected till the end. Definitely not for kids though! Thoroughly enjoyed it till the end! Only thing that was annoying but we can blame covid, was the fact that the ride at the end you have to wear a mask and cannot see our reaction. So because of this we didn’t purchase any photos. Also the masks the staff have to wear, we also can’t see them talking properly. But I thought the acting was good and I’m glad that we did the tour.
E. R.
Great fun. Well worth the money. Be aware that this is probably not suitable for kids
S. P.
Very spooky and great live actor's making the experience come to life. Highly recommended 👍🏽
m. l.
Absolutely loved every minute of this experience. Did not know what to expect which makes it better. You learn the history whilst having fun. Definitely worth the money. I actually want to do it again .
L. C.
Been before and it's been wonderful yet again! Kudos to the actors and staff who bring this experience to life!
G. M. (.
My son and I found this experience to be unique and captivating. Not sure what I was expecting, but it was really entertaining and I thoroughly recommend it.
P. H.
Had amazing time my first experience here. Actors were top class especially my nephew kyle Murphy.
Felt sorry for poor actress that was manhandled people just dont listen, I hope she was okay. But we had a ball, will come again that's for sure. Love fae Glasgow. Xx
A. F.
Staff are hilarious. Really good at getting people involved. Wait time was A little long but worth it for the experience. I put the wait down to having to reset the activities
c. d.
We went to the adult Halloween show last night as I love Halloween 🎃 we were not disappointed was fabulous . fabulous costumes characters and props the staff work hard and are great .It was lots of fun .
Will definitely go back .
g. o.
Totally fun day for our family , really great hour
c. l.
Excellent. Well worth a visit, loved all the historical information and the actors were brilliant
L. W.
Excellent. Something teenage kids enjoyed too. Staff very engaging and professional.
J. V.
Had a blast! Definitely recommend booking tickets if visiting Edinburgh. The crew were excellent, scary, creepy, funny, just fab! Best to book a head online as it does tend to fill up fast
S. H.
Expect the unexpected - can't give too much away but be prepared for a humorously terrifying experience with fantastic cast!
D. A.
Really fun entertaining and well paced tour. Very interactive and the actors were great. It's very similar to London dungeons.
b. d.
Always wanted to go since being young, it wasn't a disappointment. If I come to Edinburgh again, I'll be going back on the tour.
A. C.
Had a great experience, fun and the actor's were friendly
B. A.
Really great show, despite getting picked on numerous times 😂
L. J.
It has been 4 years since we were there and we still always quote the lady saying "Muuurrrrdeerr' it was sooo good! A must!!
r.
Lots of fun, characters were interactive! We had a great time and would recommend
B. P.
My family and myself really enjoyed our experience here. The involvement between the actors and the peasants (you) is really well thought out. Highly recommended if you enjoy getting scared.
R. A.
Always a fun time.
Booked for 5.30pm so there was no queue.
m.
Fun experiance and well worth the laughs.
Small group so was totally interactive and laughs abound.
Good actors oh did i mention the laughs
Wont spoil the ending if u want to visit
M. E.
Took my grandchildren and we all loved it.

Hits
> Great Acting
> Some scary, fun and funny moments to be had.
> Helpful and friendly service at the front desk.
> Souvenir Guidebook is great.
Give it a Miss
> We thought there would be most history and information made available. It’s a fun morning out but lacks a little bit of substance.
C. B.
Had the best time !!! Not what I expected but so much fun
I. L.
Very nise acting and we had realy good time.
J. H.
Didn't know what to expect going in. It was an absolute blast! The actors/actresses were amazing. A great mix of humor and scares. Really inspired me to find a career with this company to give back the same fantastic experience I received. Well done!
A. O.
I've done a lot of these Dungeon attractions across the UK and Edinburgh's is by far the best.
The actors are incredible, the set pieces are fantastic and the atmosphere is brilliant.
I can't recommend this highly enough.
K. H.
Went here two years ago with my sisters and HAD to take my husband when we were in Edinburgh this past June. It's such a unique thing to do while in the city and tons of fun. Just don't be a Debbie Downer--be ready to play along with it since it's a very interactive experience! Buy your tickets on their page online to save some money.
A. W.
Great fun, with a few scares thrown in - and the drop ride at the end was quite something! Expensive, but the actors do a great job!
Z. A.
We didn't know what to expect 😅 given minimal reading up haha ! However we had a fantastic time the actors where spot on and the ride at the end was just brilliant! Great experience for all ages !
R. A.
I give this 3 stars because I'm comparing it to York dungeons in regards to the actors and the value for money. Yes you get a little ride at these dungeons but apart from that it isn't much different, apart from the price The jokes were the same, most rooms were the same aswell but York overall was better. I think it was expensive for what it was. I wouldn't go back now I've done them but it was enjoyable. My children aged 7 and 9 loved it.
N. F.
Super fun, super spooky! Definitely scared me good a couple times whilst my wife laughed at me! And the gift shop was great! Not too exorbitant with some quality merch
J. F.
Really enjoyed the dungeons as haven't been for nearly 15 years. Staff are doing a great job of scaring and story telling and although it's pricey for a family of 5 it's a great trip. Personally don't recommend for kids under 10, but each to their own.
P. L.
Amazing, interactive and soooo much fun!! Ride at the end is completely optional 😀
M.
Very good tour, worth the full money completely. Actors were great and overall interaction was really good. If looking for something fun and entertaining deffo worth your while
B. T.
We absolutely loved this experience. It was different than we were expecting but definitely in a good way. Really interactive, funny and scary at times. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting Edinburgh

Took my 3 kids here and we all thought it was brilliant. It was scary and hillarious. The actors were amazing. Have to admit I hid behind my kids most of the time because I'm a big scaredy pants. We would definitely go here again when we next visit.
O. F.
Very well thought out and quite scary and disgusting at times. A bit pricey but is expected. Not for the squeamish!!
S. “. S. D.
Absolutely loved our visit to the dungeons, highly immersive scenes with incredibly talented actors. Edinburgh dungeons pulls on some real life local stories for some unique scares and spooky tales. Excellent and well worth a visit
D. G.
Good fun, could be too scary for younger ones
F. M.
Great way to spend an afternoon. Worth every penny of the entry fee. Lots of laughs and scared out our wits... look forward to visiting again
N.
By far the best one I’ve been to, the acting is spot on
S. “. F.
What a super fun place to visit a laugh a minute and the people to talking were awesome at what they do .. Wife and I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it if u want a good 90 minutes of murder and torture ( Joking ) ... Thanks for the tour round the dungeons all involved ...
J. D.
Loved it. Highly entertaining and funny with a few thrills thrown in. The actors are brilliant and it's definitely worth the trip. If you're in Edinburgh, I would recommend The Dungeons
R.
Fabulous place, great value for money 👍
H. S.
Great attraction, did not disappoint. Covid precautions in place but didn't affect our enjoyment as well organised.
Staff really helpful and the storytellers did a great job scaring the kids! A highlight of our weekend in Edinburgh, thank you
A. B.
So much fun! The actors were all amazing, and were especially good with improvisation. The experience was really immersive so it's worth a visit.
G. O.
Fantastic experience.
Been there twice now, both times with friends
b. s.
Learn a short history of Edinburgh though a mixture of enthusiastic characters and Edinburgh spring water 💦
Everyone gets letdown at the end ( in house joke ) 🙄
j. H.
Excellent experience actors very good at their job and very knowledgeable
F. C. H.
So much fun all the way around the dungeons. Interaction with live actors. By far the best attraction in Edinburgh. I wouldn't recommend to children under 12 years old.
C. H.
Had a fantastic afternoon at the Edinburgh Dungeons. All the actors were great and the place was really well managed in line with covid restrictions. Well worth the money!
S. s. 3.
Great visit , staff are well into roll play loads of interaction with the public
P. K.
Great experience. Lots of fun but also interesting historical facts. Suitable for kids and adults
S. G. (. G.
Great fun, we all had a great time
J. H.
Edinburgh Dungeons in a must visit, the characters are amazing and the stories really interesting. Definitely worth the money and covid safe. lots of fun had by all.
A. E.
Had a brilliant time at the dungeon. Well worth the visit
M. S.
Really top quality experience, far exceeded our expectations. Factual but also the involvement of the audience and the witty humour of the actors with a few jump scares made this worth every penny!
G.
Queues can be massive. Some actors (the judge especially) you can clearly see they are just rushing into the act to finish fast but the vast majority of them are really digging into the role. Some plots are almost identical with the other dungeons across England. (doctor, plague, judge, torturer).
A. B.
First time here and we got the 2for1 offer with Kellogg's cereal bars. Was really good and scary in the right places. We got wet too haha and the ride at the end was smashing! I'd deffo recommend if you want a laugh! The actors are brilliant and very covid safe throughout.
S. M.
Had an absolutely brilliant time .. great experience, wonderful cast and hilarious photos !!
J. R.
Our 4th Dungeon and as good as ever. We even managed not to get picked on!
G. S.
Good! Very interactive and informative. They will also provide jump scares, which is great (for comedy value) if you are with someone who gets scared easily!
N. K.
Been coming here for over 14years and never been disappointed. Well worth the money always a fun and positive experience. Staff are fantastic. Well stocked gift shop with interesting buys
D. A.
Great experience would do it again and recommend everyone to visit staff very passionate and very entertaining
L. h.
Absolutely loved this, factual whilst still having fun and trying to scare you. Great actors and staged brilliantly, would go again. Bit expensive but so good, did end up screaming
B. M.
Staff are fantastic and it's funny and creepy. The gift shop doesnt cost a fortune either, I was really surprised
p. l.
Great experience. 2 kids enjoyed it thought it was a wee bit scary. Well worth a visit and staff very friendly and great acting.
j. a.
Such a fun time! My third Dungeon experience. It's new and exciting every time. Love seeing the dark side of a city's history.
M. S.
I'm not going to post any spoilers, but it's fantastic and well worth the admission. Just go!
K. M.
Great value for money, had a great time.
D. E.
A fantastic day out.
Parking is a nightmare but it's the city centre....you kinda gotta expect it to be.
The dungeons are dark...like low lighting the whole time, so be aware.
The actors are great, they rely make history come alive with fact and humour.
A great day out for kids and adults alike.
Merch photos are pushed on you, it takes a while to get started when everyone has an individual picture taken which yiu are offered at the end of the tour but if you politely decline you are ok...there's no pressure.
S. A.
Wonderful experience especially as in Edinburgh. Had seen the London one previous, each unique and catering to the local history. Son enjoyed it thoroughly.
M. H.
Fantastic place took my grandchildren age 10 and 12 they loved it full of history ,scary and 2 rides lasts for about 2hrs well worth the visit
w.
Awesome experience, apart from one staff member called Aaron who was very rude to myself and my partner on two occasions. Our first encounter with Aaron was at the beginning, I thought he asked what time we were booked for, I said 0215, he huffed and said how many of you are there, which we answered and followed him through. It then came to getting our first picture taken by him, he had made myself and my partner feel uncomfortable already, so we opted to skip the photo, obviously people saying "no thanks" annoys him for whatever reason. 🤷🏼♀️ Our second encounter was at the end, again, when it came to collecting our pictures. Because my partner had "swore" in the picture (V signs), he took the pleasure in telling us that we couldn't have the picture and then proceeded to call my partner a child in front of everyone, obviously we responded to his bizarre behaviour, he then called her childish again. If we had known that it wasn't allowed obviously she wouldn't have done it, but we thought it was a private picture that we would have been paying for regardless. 🤷🏼♀️ Dealing with the public is obviously not his forte when he feels the need to name call people for something that has zero effect on him. It would have been good enough to just say sorry, you can't have the picture. I specified the details of the complaint to another staff member who will hopefully follow this up. Kinda put a dampener on a great experience.
J. H.
So much fun. Would definitely recommend it. Everything was just packed full of laughter from the beginning
I. C.
Great show. The best dungeon encounter. Fantastic acting performance
A. H.
If you love to get the socks scared off of you and know how to have a good laugh then it's a brilliant place to visit! It's nice to learn some of the darker history of Edinburgh and have fun while doing so!
D. R.
I've been to about four Dungeon experiences now and this one is easily as good as the one in London! Lots of fun, but i probably wouldn't bring children below the age of 12 here, cos it's pretty jumpy. An exciting way to learn some of the local gruesome history. Do yourself a favour too - go to a local supermarket and buy some cereal or cereal bars. They currently have a BOGOF offer for tickets to Merlin attractions INCLUDING the Dungeons. You can get a ticket for a couple of quid. Happy Dungeoning!
B.
Brilliant, but sadly I missed one bit, cos of strobe lighting warning and my Husband knowing me well, said I would have been OK, but I guess they were being over cautious.
A. D.
Excellent, great fun really enjoyed it
A. K.
Love this place been so many times but it changes and adapts so always a surprise.
V. U.
Fun experience, especially on a rainy day!
S. H.
Great fun! Definitely recommend a visit here. I jumped a few times but also had a great laugh. You can't take pictures in the place but that would just be a distraction anyway.
S. L.
Really good attraction, the performers really get into Thier roles , history humour and a scare kids will love it , took about 90 mins altogether 👍
N. S.
Great time. I had a smile the whole time, she was freaking out.
D. M. X. r.
Lots of fun. Great work by the staff . Amazing day out
L. F.
Really great experience, it's a shame the boat ride wasn't on as that was a great feature of the show. Hopefully it returns in the future. Everything else was really interesting and scary, especially the ghost room
C. D.
Went to the over 18 version on the Friday night. They don’t do it very often so check if you want to do. Wasn’t much different to the normal version we did in York a few years back. Just some swearing but it was still a great night and I think the staff do very well considering the restrictions that were still in force at the time of our visit.
Y. K.
The actors were amazing!!
But adults will not be exited, maybe children about 10y.old
But guys doing amazing job if you like theatre scenes it’s for you.
S. G.
Great performance by the actors and a good way to spend an hour or so doing something fun in the city centre
J. H.
Great fun although very strict. Actors and performers were Very entertaining!
The final ride/ drop is exhilarating!
G. D.
Usual combination of good fun and mild scariness or maybe not so mild.. 👀. The characters telling the tales were excellent as usual.
M. T.
Was OK enjoyed it especially the ride at the end but it didn't seem as entertaining and fun as the London one or even York
O. W.
Not as big as London but still excellent and informative
D. C.
Well, I was a bit nervous about heading in here but it was amazing. Well worth going in
L. M.
Fantastic. Took my 12 year old daughter. It was so much fun. Equally scary too. I've been to a few dungeons but this one was the best by far
R. S.
Amazing!!!! Hilarious, educational, and very scary! Screamed my head off on many occasions but had an absolute blast. Great value for money as it was well over an hour of fun. The audience interaction kept everyone engaged and the rides were an unexpected bonus. Will definitely be recommending to anyone who visits Edinburgh, of any age.
D. N.
Had a great time, the actors/actresses were fantastic and interactive during the experience.
V. T.
An awesome experience! An entertaining combination of history and theatre and surprise! Well worth it. (No photography allowed)
E. B.
Amazing all the actors are funny the whole experience is great good after a night out or to do with your friends not one boring part full of scares the boat ride is deffo the scariest had me shaking lol bit expensive but is worth it 100%
J. K.
Spookily entertaining! Fun way to experience Edinburghas history from trials of witch hunts, cannibalism and torture methods used to get folks to tell truth. The last bit, a roller coaster type drop to experience the hang!!!
If you buy tickets online, you can skip the ticket purchasing line and save a few pounds!
C. R.
I had a great experience at the Edinburgh Dungeon. I would definitely recommend it. It is a bit scary but the actors and storyline is really funny... I had a great time.
H. W.
Visited last year with a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids we all absolutely loved every minute of it, thanks to all the actors for making our day so enjoyable! Were going back today but this time adults only 🤣 Cant wait.
c.
Very fun experience,l. Fantastic & enthusiastic actors & actresses! Just a shame about the extortionate prices for the photos!
A. S.
Gimmicky. Thought there would be a bit more educational elements to this, but it was really just an expensive jump scare entertainment gig with a drop ride that only happened once. Visitors are not stupid, don't treat then as such.
B. M.
Was fun, mainly for kids but it gave me anxiety when they were picking people to take part! That dreadful feeling of anxiety from school came back!!
That rise at the end.....I SCREAMED!
S. L.
An intense experience with some major theatrics. The scenes are great, but not always used fully - the tour is rather based more on the actors' performances, which are mostly great as well. Be prepared for some audience participation, and think twice about bringing kids!
C. F.
A bit pricey but great fun.
Only thing to be aware of is the height limit for the drop ride(1.4m) minimum
B. O.
Good fun, entertaining , not my favourite dungeon tour , I didn't enjoy it as much as the London one .
Z. E.
Fantastic place had lots of fun
Highly recommend. Also best to book online as you get it cheaper. Also if long cue to get in you get priority and also a guide book free.
L. O. B.
Brilliant experience 👏 definitely worth a visit even if I was "Sweaty Betty " said with a Scottish accent 😆
R. C. (.
Brilliant day out. Me my Girlfriend and my young brother. Fantastic to the end in here.
s. r.
Having been to London dungeon a few years ago and thought it was good, took my daughter yesterday and she enjoyed as did I, I did not think it would be as good as London but Edinburgh dungeon was much better than I expected and definitely tops London , Edinburgh dungeon well worth going too.
J. S.
Very well organized for social distancing. Staff were excellent: friendly, engaging, and made sure everyone had a great time. The tour itself was better than I expected, especially the special effects. Several laugh out loud moments!
B. M.
Staff their are great really make the experience, even with rude grumpy tourists around
A. M.
Excellent fun, definitely worth a trip
k.
Had a great couple of hours in the dungeons. Expensive but lots of laughs and frights. Would definitely recommend if your stuck for something to do on a rainy day.
C. D.
Brilliant! Right level of scary and funny! Took our 7 and 9 year old. Great afternoon out.
M. K.
Was absolutely amazing both my wife and I loved it!
I cannot recommend highly enough that you go
It will make your Edinburgh trip
A. M.
Amazing experience! Some fab jump scares but nothing too bad. The staff were brilliant with a great sense of humour and loads of knowledge. The information provided on the website about each section was also really useful and accurate.
Н. Д.
Absolutely brilliant! Loved every minute of it!
E. C.
This was absolutely brilliant. We booked as a group of 15 and had a fantastic tour. Both fascinating and equally frightening.
M. G.
The Edinburgh Dungeon was one of the highlights of our trip to Edinburgh. We hadn't been before so didn't have a clue what to expect. We thought the actors were brilliant and seemed to have adapted to the current COVID-19 restrictions amazingly well. There was quite a lot of interaction with the crowd and the actors were funny - my favourite part was when one of them commented on the size of my boyfriend's "massive heed"!
We were able to see the photos taken throughout the tour on the way out and were given the option to purchase one, which we did.
I won't be too specific about the tour in case I spoil it for anyone but we would definitely recommend doing it if you're in Edinburgh!
D. A.
Such a great experience, staff were fab very clean and covid guidance followed well.
L. M.
Have visited a couple of the Dungeons now and have to say really enjoyed Edinburgh, won't spoil it by saying what's in there but it's good. Would go again.
H. M.
Absolutely brilliant. Hilariously over acted! Thoroughly enjoyed, would definitely visit again. I got picked out of the crowd and was tried for witchcraft! Great involvement. Also some great little surprise features which I won't spoil but they are amazing! Good prices on photos etc...
Y. K.
This was my first time participating in any dungeon experience and I loved it! Unfortunately I did not get to do the one in London when I last visited, but learning about Scottish history in a thrilling, fun, humorous and interactive way was fantastic! A more creative way to learn of the spooky Scottish tales/ghost figures.
The staff and scare actors were amazing with their approach to social distancing measures, was reassuring to see many hand sanitiser stations in the attraction for guests.
I like how the actors get all peasants (ahem, participants) involved. I was picked out by the judge and accused of being a witch 🧙♀️ which was a lot of fun. The banter with guests and the scare actors is brilliant.
If anyone is staying in Edinburgh, then check out this attraction you won't regret it!
U. (.
Loved it, the guide was an awesome funny dude with sense of humor and spits so many facts that sensitive people would get offended. Nonetheless it was an awesome and frightening experience in the Dungeons, would recommend you without any doubt worth every penny. Took us around around 80-90 minutes to finish the tour.
M. H.
Don't visit Edinburgh without visiting the Dungeons, a must see for a family trip. A little pricey but worth it as it lasts a few hours and they are very professional in what they do in terms of the performance and the exhibits/rides.
c.
Brilliant deffo try. The actors were amazing loved the whole experience
I.
My favourite place to take visitors to Edinburgh. Always good fun.
B.
Fantastic actors great for a rainy day
W. O. m.
Absolutely brilliant! Highlight of our trip to Edinburgh would definitely recommend the actors were brill and was so well done especially with the current restrictions.
S. D. M.
Visited yesterday with my partner. This was my 3rd visit and like my previous visits I had a great time. Each time I've been it's been different and never disappointed. The actors are brilliant and keep you entertained. Would definitely recommend for a fun filled hour or so.
T. o. G.
Although I don't feel like it was much of an educational experience, I had lots of fun and would surely recommend it to others! The actors were absolutely amazing, especially the witch and the girl in a cave. I also enjoyed the actors' humour, personally I think the judge cracked the funniest jokes.
K. C.
Very entertaining but lasts just over the hour. Not as good as the one in London.
T. R.
Super spooky gory tale of Edinburgh dungeons. Scared the pants off us . A truly great experience. Thanks guys you were a-mazing!
s. r.
Having been to London dungeon a few years ago and thought it was good, took my daughter yesterday and she enjoyed as did I, I did not think it would be as good as London but Edinburgh dungeon was much better than I expected and definitely tops London , Edinburgh dungeon well worth going too.
A. W.
Great fun, with a few scares thrown in - and the drop ride at the end was quite something! Expensive, but the actors do a great job!
k.
Had a great couple of hours in the dungeons. Expensive but lots of laughs and frights. Would definitely recommend if your stuck for something to do on a rainy day.
S. C.
Great tour with excellent presentation and performance.
J. M.
Put the fear right up my cousin and I
C. A.
Fantastic journey into Scotland's horrible past.
S. M.
It was a great laugh.
t. a.
Good light hearted fun. Well worth a visit
J.
Very fun, well worth a visit
D. F.
Went here recently with my partner and the care taken to ensure they met covid safety standards and yet still gave the best experience was fantastic. The actors were all amazing and it was a terrific experience even if we do scare easily.
D. S.
Came across this place having never heard of it before. Looked interesting from the outside, the man behind the till was very friendly and easy to remember.
Really exciting place if you're into dark history. Actors really embraced their characters through-out (though some were stronger actors than others) and got the audience involved as well.
My favourite set was the lady who played a member of the cannibal family, she was excellent!
The boat ride and drop ride were nice touches and generally enjoyed the whole experience. Would recommend to anyone!
G. M.
This is a great attraction. Interactive, with rides, lots to see and heaps of information about Edinburgh, it's really a lot of fun. The Dungeon itself is very close to most transport links so it's very easy to get to. If going by car though make sure you plan your route and where to park as it's restricted parking in this part of town. You'll be in here a while though, at least a couple of hours so bare this in mind if using a parking meter. Also wear appropriate footwear. You'll be on your feet most of the time and there is uneven floors and stairs. This is not suitable for people with advanced mobility issues.
It's also reasonably priced but being part of the Merlin group you will find it easy to get money off vouchers if you know where to look.
The actors throughout the exhibit really give it some gusto and you will find that you get more out of the experience if you join in. The group's can be quite large so it's luck of the draw as to who will be going around with you. You can take kids in but this isn't the place for young children and there are height restrictions for some parts.
At the end of the tour you will leave via the gift shop. There's plenty to buy and you will be able to purchase pictures of you taken during the tour.
Overall, it's a thoroughly enjoyable place to visit.
K. C.
It was amazing and my kids loved it.
Lots of jump scares and creepiness. Great family day out.
N. T.
Very well done. Wife and I were very impressed.
M. S.
It feels like a touristy place to go but put away your cynicism and think of it as more theatre than museum and you'll have a great time. The actors put everything into it and you feel like you are the first visitors of the day (we were the last group). Sometimes scary, sometimes funny and always gruesome - worth a visit.
H. H.
Super fun!!! A lot of jokes, surprising us and histories about Scotland. But it's not just a history lesson about Scotland. It wasn't boring for me at all because of the environment of the place and the well made attractions. It is one hour but I didn't get board at all. You should definitely try going there.
K. G.
Was ok! Was not overly impressed with it. My partner and 2 kids enjoyed it though. Plus the boat ride was not on.
I found it boring at the beginning followed by some good scary stuff and really decent effects. Would I go again? Probably not just felt a bit boring at parts.
P. J.
An Interactive history which entertained the adults and children, whole family had fun, would highly recommend a visit, good value for money
N. E.
This is an excellent all family trip to do it is a lot of fun as well as full of information about Edinburgh City. Wished we could of stayed longer .
E. I.
I and partner went on this tour on our last day and we loved it. The actors are amazing and clearly, love their job. The price is more than worth it. And it is definitely not for the faint-hearted. We weren't in there 10 mins and it was already well worth the cost of entry.
I am not a person who scares easily and i jumped and screamed like a stereotypical girlie girl. You never knew what was coming around the corner, sometimes literally.
For us, it was the perfect way to end the holiday and we are very happy we found it. It was 1 of the highlights of our breakaway
K. F.
It was so much fun to do as a family on a cold windy day. We loved it!
J. D.
Good fun and not very scary
S. D.
First time ever going to Edinburgh. We came across the dungeon and we have never been in one or seen it before. We had an amazing time!! Brilliant actors and they were so funny!! Loved each second of it. Lovely staff she gave me a discount as it was my birthday!! I had a brilliant time. I would go again!!
E. B.
I am a complete wuss so this was terrifying for me. The characters were fantastic and played out very well! Covid rules were followed to a T and we will definitely be back!
M. W.
Loved it. Even though they had some kind of flood that knocked power out in a couple of rooms it was still great. Interesting as well as funny and the actors in there were very good. Prices are reasonable and you can expect to spend maybe an hour to an hour and a half in there.
C. E.
Nice scary place. Actors are very good.
D. H.
It's my first time in Edinburgh and I had no idea where to visit. I'm a huge horror fan so the dungeons stuck out massively to me.
When I arrived it looked super creepy and dark. Felt like it was going to be like a saw movie!
It was amazing from start till finish. The actors were great. They try and involve you as much as possible respecting the covid regulations.
I fully recommend it to anyone, even adults!
R. M.
All welcoming staff were very friendly and helpful and the set up of the whole building was amazing! Some of the acting was a little poor and was hard to believe and therefore lost the illusion previous actors had built up which was a shame. However, overall it was very enjoyable and it was decently priced.
C. B.
Not what we expected but not necessarily in a bad way! Tickets were very reasonably priced and you could tell the staff/actors were giving it their all. Left with a big smile on our faces. Not as scary as anticipated but a funny and educational time!
S. D.
Good bit of fun to kill a few hours. Would definitely recommend booking online to get the reduced price. The staff acting was really good and created a scary atmosphere at times; however, some points were anti climactic. Good involvement of those on the tour. It did make us jump a few times and was good to gain a bit of history knowledge at the same time!
E.
We had so much fun on our visit yesterday!! It was our first day in Edinburgh and I knew I wanted to visit the Dungeons! They've always been a favorite of mine. I was really impressed with the design of the attraction, from the sets to lighting, sound and even smell, everything was well put together. But the stand out for me was the performances! You can tell that the actors really love what they do and every character is so different. Every member of staff should be proud of themselves as they all do an amazing job to ensure their guests have the best possible experience! We'll definitely be back (even if I did get accused of being a Witch... AGAIN!) Loved every minute!
H. V.
The experience it self was great. The actors were fantastic and we were thoroughly entertained.
The only thing was the timing. As there are no set booking times we were expecting to walk in and go through, unfortunately we were held up in the waiting area for over half an hour in a quite large group. This impacted on our other arrangements, causing us missing the next activity and being out of pocket.
B. K.
Would recommend for anyone who loves history and having the pants scared off them. It is a really creepy experience and well worth it. All the actors are so convincing and you really feel like you have been taken back in time.
K. H.
This is a great attraction! The history of Edinburgh being shown in that way is interesting and a little scary (but for some people it may be more than little;))
I, as a foreigner, have been able to understand everything the actors said so the accent wasn’t too heavy, which I was really relieved about.
Other than that, the little rides and actors were great, very believable and I would get in there any other time again!
C.
Great fun for the whole family! Much more like horrible histories than a horror show! It's very funny and the actors are all believable and enthusiastic. The special effects are much better than I had expected and it really is a good time
J. N.
Had a great time today in the Dungeon. Great experience, would recommend it.
Z. W.
Amazing fun. The staff were brilliant in their roles and the whole experience left me smiling
D. A.
Great experience, actors were very fun... Enjoyed this, as a hairy Englishman
Only thing I would say is that if you're squeamish like me, there are a couple of bits that are a bit tricky to get through. On balance, this did not detract from the experience however.
W. H.
If you don't like dark small spaces this probably isn't the best attraction for you! However if you do, even if you're a bloke and you think well I ain't getting involved you probably will. It's a great laugh, there are bits that are slightly challenging but it's very clear how safe it is.
Think of it as moving theatre, it's more of a show than a dungeon. The actors and actresses are very good, you can see how seriously they take their job, which must be demanding and repetitive.
If you're pregnant or have beck/neck issues you can opt out of certain things but it's more fun to do them, all sections are good fun, certainly worth going.
M. T. S.
Really enjoyed it, had so much fun. The actors but in a great deal of effort and you can tell they live their jobs. Book online rather than paying on the door to get a discount.
N. W.
Great experience, the staff were great and really made the show exciting. Would highly recommend.
E. D.
Loved it! Hilarious, educational and a little bit frightening all at the same time! Didn't think it was wholly appropriate for kids (innuendos and a bit too scary - we had a crier who had to leave the group) ... but, personally, thought it was great fun and well worth the money!
K. S.
Great experience would highly recommend
D. S.
Good fun, definitely more suited to a family but there's a few hidden jokes for adults :)
G. S.
Fantastic family day out. The actors make the whole experience come to life. May be a little scary for the very young, my boys are 8, but I think any younger would be too young. All in all a great few hours.
D. A.
Good fun a bit scary actors are good worth a go
R. W.
Very entertaining with excellent actors, actresses and staff. Not as many jump scares as expected as we were closer to the back of the group. Would definitely recommend, especially for those with mid-age children (12+).
I. W.
Actors are great really made me jump out my skin
R. K. R.
This was one of the places I visited in Ediinburgh. I visited the place in 2015 and I'm sure they would have made some good changes. The Edinburgh tour package included this as a part of it. It was a memorable experience. The guys there are very entertaining and funny! :) They will surely give you some good experiences and you get to learn a few facts about the history of Scotland too.
You can keep this on your list while you explore Edinburgh :)
S. M.
Phenomenal, the actors are brilliant and move around the set pieces with easy and stealth they seemingly appear from nowhere and disappear back into blackness. A great mix of comedy, fear and also a few learning experiences along the way.
S. D.
Visited the dungeon with my mum and sister who had never been before and it had been about 5 years since I had been!
Live actors were absolutely brilliant and noticed my 13 year old sister was a bit nervous about being scared so they backed off and made her laugh instead. She absolutely loved it. The whole group on the tour screamed laughed and had fun.
Will definitely be back with my partner and hopefully do the late dungeon experience and see how scary it is!
j. “. B.
Great for anyone who likes to join in with the acting/role play. Not enjoyable at all, No reflection on the place just not for me I'm afraid. I knew this before having my arm twisted into going. However my partner thoroughly enjoyed it. Wouldn't recommend for younger children, the socially awkward or anyone suffering with anxiety however that's just my opinion, everyone is different. Upon other's recommendations a must visit whilst in Edinburgh
S. S.
This place is so fun! The actors are really good and the story line is engaging and (semi) historically accurate. It isn't a must see if you're only in Edinburgh for a short time, but if you can make it, you'll have a great time!
A. A.
If you love history, shows and horror then this is the perfect place to visit. The actors are funny and they really are in the character. It is not just walking and listening kind of show but it is like involving the visitors while telling the stories in a really nice way. The decoration is awesome and the shop at the end is lovely. I really recommend visiting this place and it worth every penny
T. R.
Absolutely amazing! It is really scary... But not as scary as I'd thought it was going to be... Doesn't mean I wasn't still terrified the whole way! Actors were really convincing. Only problem was we were a small group and it was the same volunteer for everything and eventually she started refusing to participate. Don't know if it was intentional or not. Thankfully it wasn't me so I didn't mind!!!
(I visited back in September for my birthday but it wasn't... The girl certainly wasnt 40!! However the fact that you do that is hilarious and I appreciate that more!!!)
A. T.
What a fun experience this was, I went with my two kids aged 14 and 10 and they both loved it. The actors are fabulous and really funny too, they are very good at suddenly appearing in front of you threateningly lol. It definately feels like you are in a dungeon, and I particularly enjoyed the use of lighting effects to create atmosphere and tension. The boat ride is very scary and the drop ride, it took me a while to recover from! Good value for money and interesting to learn about the darker side of Edinburgh’s history too.
K. H.
Great fun experience! The actors did an amazing job making you feel like you're living in the dark ages when everything was bloodier and little less civilized. Theres a short boat ride and a tower drop ride included in the tour.
R. M.
Good fun and a bit scary. Had a great time at the dungeons. Nothing could beat look on partner's face at the drop ride finale. Good for older kids. Younger ones might find it a bit too scary.
C. M.
Had an absolutely great time despite having visited the Blackpool Dungeons, it was similar but different enough to be just as entertaining. Great fun acting and very interactive. My daughter even turn into a ghost in the attached photo lol.
R. T.
Our show began at quarter to the hour. After 5-10 minutes of queueing/waiting the journey ended 30-40 minutes later. So it was less than half the stated 80 minute duration. Don’t expect much from the “rides”. The acting and stories were good, and I’d recommend this if you like theatrics; otherwise, I’d suggest spending the £15-19 per person elsewhere.
R. Q.
Had a brilliant time here with family. Well laid out rooms with different ghoulish tales told in each by an enthusiastic staff. Would highly recommend this attraction. The 'drop' at the end is something else!
Thanks to Edinburgh Dungeons for a great experience.
Z. V.
Actors were really good. Didn't break character. Scary enough but not too much - a few jumpy bits. The witch and the cannibal were played really well! Worth every penny.
L. M.
My group and I chose the VIP experience at the dungeons and it didn’t disappoint. We had an absolute blast! The team is very good at what they do and so funny! It made for a very entertaining afternoon! At the end of the experience we got keepsake pictures that ended up being an absolute riot!
A. W.
Literally stumbled across this on our way to the castle and didn't really know what we were getting ourselves in for! From start to finish this was really enjoyable. I would consider myself a bit of an easy scare and this had me jumping and shrieking throughout. Although it was a bit scary and certainly for the younger kids in the group, everyone who got to the end had a big smile on their face and the adrenaline rush would really leave you feeling either ready for a nap or a stiff drink. The guides and actors are so enthusiastic and energetic they really make this experience special. It was definitely a highlight of our trip!
D. R.
Big fan of this attraction. Priced very reasonably at £13 per adult. The Mrs jumped at practically everything which was fun to see. The actors in the parts were absolutely brilliant, wasn't a poor act on show. Was educational and funny to boot. Some great one liners! Couldn't recommend this place enough. Great way to spend an hour and a half!
W. 7.
EXCELLENT! The actors do an amazing job taking you through Edinburgh's dark creepy past and like to get everyone involved. It's great fun with plenty of laughs and a few scares along the way. Wouldn't recommend for young kids or anyone easily scared.
S. H.
All the Actors where great. Well worth a visit
p. s.
Took my 14 year old daughter and had a great time we both loved it, well worth a visit
G. D.
Well worth a visit. The actors are very talented. A few of the scenes your involved in get a bit jumpy and creepy. I've never done anything like this before but I would definitely try others, though something tells me this one will be hard to beat. A little girl of around 10 who was in with her parents had a hard time and got a bit scared so I wouldn't recommend anyone bring their kids unless your confident they can handle it. They say it isn't suitable for anyone under 9 but I think maybe use the movie ratings system. It's dark, noisy, creepy and graphic. Think PG12 for guidance.
M. L.
Not my personal favorite. Actors doing recreations of gruesome historical events. Seemed more amusement park-like than historical. May be fun, just not my cup of tea. N.B. This attraction came highly recommended. Many people love it! I should reveal that I also hate musicals, so maybe I'm just not a fan of theatre. I'm a straight up facts kinda girl. Could be great for a very soggy day or for those that aren't interested in the night-time tours that discuss the same themes.
F. A.
So much fun!! Went with my boyfriend and was one of my favourite dates ever. It was funny, spooky, scary, and educational all in one. I learned a lot about Edinburgh’s history and got a huge adrenaline rush while I was at it.
The only drawback to this company is the merchandise is ridiculously expensive. Wouldn’t stop me from going though!
P. J.
My wife booked this for us, it would not have been my immediate choice. It was however hysterically funny!! The actors and their interaction with the audience was hilarious. It's not the sort of thing you do twice, but I might very well be tempted to do it in another place. In Edinburgh, the local dialect made it so much more authentic, but that might be an acquired taste 😁
If you are considering this, I can only recommend.
M. L.
Great fun. The staff / actors really get into the parts. They had us laughing through the whole tour. We were jumping at all the scary bits ! Our 12 year old son loved it. Don't take little girls or boys that scare easily...2 families had to leave half way through due to this. It goes dark a lot during the tour and there is great lifting and special effects. Really enjoyed this. Thankyou
I. E.
Amazing actors, fun experience
V. R.
We had a fantastic experience from star to finish with the staff and service at the dungeons.
I wanted to propose to my girlfriend as part of a big surprise and it turned out perfectly. Management was very helpful from my initial email down to the tiniest detail on the day. The actors were extremely good and professional. We had a terrifyingly brilliant time and memories to cherish forever. Thank you to all the staff at the dungeons and hope to see you again 👍
S.
Great fun, throughly enjoyed it.
K. S.
I went as part of a large group (~22 people) and had a pretty decent time. I'm not into horror attractions, but I appreciated the acting and the brisk pace. I'm more of a historical tour type of person and this was more showy. Overall, a decent time, but more for people who like shows than historical tours.
L. M.
We had a fantastic time the actors were very good my wife was scared to death a few times. We will be visiting again. The ride at the end was also quite good as you can see from the picture and our faces.
I. W.
Absolutely loved all aspects of today's tour. Never laughed so much in ages. Actors were great and stories told were amazing, a few surprises along the way, well worth the money, would definitely recommend ☺
B. H.
Very fun dungeons, probably the best of all the ones
N. J.
Went with my girlfriend yesterday having bottled it a couple of years a go as a child. I'm so glad we went. Actors were amazing and have some awesome banter with you. Also there are some amazing jump scares in there. I think it's definitely worth the money. Even though one of the rides in height restricted - it's still awesome. Would definitely recommend it!
M. L. H.
Very, very good and left me chuckling? We did scream but learnt a lot of history. Great guides.
C. N.
Excellent show, enthusiastic actors, entertaining and informative! If you are pregnant or have health conditions they do warn you before you go in and before the relevant sections. You can still enjoy the experience overall and just miss the bits that might be too much for you/your health without feeling judged.
T. S.
Very nice attraction. Good actors and the rides were fun.
I really enjoyed being used in the story and being able to play a part multiple times. The actors have great humor!
The scene is scary and unsuited for little kids. That is the only thing I find annoying, some people take their children even it is not advisable for younger ones as said on their website and the entrance. Still they take their kids and when they cry it really annoys me.
But overall a very nice experience, thank you!
T. M.
Second best dungeon in the UK (yes I've been to all of them) after London. A great storytelling experience with some scares so careful when bringing your young ones.
Boat ride is a bit disappointing but the rest of the shows are great with some amazing performances from the actors.
P. B.
Awesome time, the actors were amazing and they all played a fantastic role. From start to finish I very much enjoyed myself, I was even amused by the sound effects playing in the toilet at the gift shop. A must for anyone visiting Edinburgh.
M. K.
Fantastic family day out. Kids 9 & 12 loved it.
C. C.
Absolutely hilarious!

Brilliant kids loved it very friendly staff highly recommend!!

Great place to go even being a local.

Great 1 & a half hours 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻☠👹👺

Very entertaining and a good laugh.

A little expensive

We had a really good time. A little something different and a lot of fun!

I've been to about four Dungeon experiences now and this one is easily as good as the one in London! Lots of fun, but i probably wouldn't bring children below the age of 12 here, cos it's pretty jumpy. An exciting way to learn some of the …
A. M.
Amazing experience! Some fab jump scares but nothing too bad. The staff were brilliant with a great sense of humour and loads of knowledge. The information provided on the website about each section was also really useful and accurate.
S.
Totally enjoyable hour and a half. Booking tickets on line is cheaper and saves waiting in a queue. The staff do a great job setting the atmosphere and using the public as victims bringing some humour to proceedings. You also learn a little bit of history. Scared the kids a little and gave us a laugh. Money well spent.
F. B.
Quite expensive unless you can get the 2 for 1 offers but good fun nevertheless. The actors seem to get into the spirit of things and the overall ambience is good and gives a good impression of being underground in a dungeon. The boat trip ride is short and not that interesting and the drop ride is obviously not very high but entertaining enough.
If you don't like wandering around in the dark this probably isn't for you and the drop ride has a 1.4 metre minimum height requirement as well as being restrictive for anyone overly large (lap bars need to be engaged).
Overall a decent attraction to visit and ideal if you arrive by train since it is right next door to Waverly station.
K. G.
Good for a laugh. We jumped a few times due to noise/other people screaming, but we wouldn't classify it as scary! The actors were great, very passionate which we can appreciate given that they do it so many times in a day. The themes are fairly intense so I wouldn't recommend it to people with kids under 11-12, unless you're trying to scare them senseless/punish them ;)
J. B.
Horrific & terribly amazing experience! Not for the faint of heart or those with certain ailments, but this dungeon experience is suitable to make even the biggest strongmen soil themselves in fear. All jokes aside, this is an excellent tourist attraction for all types of groups.
S. P.
Thoroughly detailed and rich in environment and enthusiasm. Had a difficult time hearing what the actors said though, so I felt I missed out on much dialogue. At certain spots the audio was quite loud, too. But my family and I had a good time! The viewer interaction with the play was funny and enjoyable.
S. M.
Been about 6 times now and still love it.few small changes due to covid cuts the tour down a little bit.still a fantastic attraction
c. j.
Oh man, the Dungeon is so much fun! Exceptional value, at that! The staff immerses you in each situation, includes the group as part of the process, and just overall everyone has fun. If you like being a kid again, or if a child wants to be an adult, this is for you.
J. B.
I LOVED this - the actors were first class entertainment and quite scary at times. The scariest bit was waiting to see if you were going to be picked on!! You get money off the tickets if you buy other tickets such as the tour buses which makes it really worth the money. Just enjoy the fun of it all especially with the actors and actresses who really get into their parts. Brilliant.
d. s.
Fantastic as all the deungeon tours are
R. J.
Been a few times but this most recent visit was something I’ll never forget with the new attractions but especially one of your actors, Sam, who made it absolutely incredible for us. I’m so proud of him! Love you Sam!
J. H.
Awesome!! Scary for our 6 year old who loves Harry Potter 😆 Actors were amazing. Would definitely visit again. Well done guys 👍
J. L.
Really enjoyed this interactive museum experience. There is a nice slow boat ride and an "executioners drop" as the rides. These you can opt out of of you want. The rest is basis tour guides dress up to play their part. All across were great and really made the experience amazing for us.
F. M.
Had a great time - quite scary in parts but lots of laughs 😊
C. T.
Very well organized. The staff were very friendly and the dungeon is pretty spooky! They interact with the guests when they can, make it fun for everyone, and use simple technology quite well to make it fun. I would prefer if they had additional staff here and there hiding to scare people once in a while just to go the extra mile but very well done nonetheless!
t.
Pretty good tour. Saved £5 each from bus ticket to musselburgh which was handy. Very friendly staff who play a huge part in the experience and their enthusiasm and banter is the highlight among a well set up story. Not hugely scary (i can be a bit of a chicken) but all well set up for a fun hour in Edinburgh.
S. D.
Had such a great time today! Even if my partner was sweaty Betty and danced like a fool! Good fun and full of a few scares! Character actors were amazing and really helped us escape reality and exploring the gruesome past of scotlands and Edinburgh, even with a camp flare! Would certainly recommend and return!
V. P.
A mix of jump scares, witty banter, suspenseful music, pseudo-history lesson, and well-placed special effects. Funny actors. Friendly staff. I was hoping that it'd be a bit more scary, but it was still entertaining. I think if it had gone on any longer, I would have gotten bored, but I found the experience overall worthwhile.
I. O.
This attraction was so much fun! Extremely entertaining! I went with my family and we all had a blast (all grown ups). The tour was incredibly entertaining and engaging.
Had me scared a few times but very thrilling!
L. M.
Great place to visit. Worth booking tickets online as slightly cheaper compared to walk up price. It’s pretty scary & is set up really well to tell the dark tales of Edinburgh’s past with some humour added in. The actors play their roles great. Worth the money. Highly recommend
E. H.
This was one of the highlights of our visit to Edinburgh. The performers were absolutely outstanding, hilarious, talented, and super interactive. It was really cool to get such an Edinburgh-themed horror experience; would pair very nicely with one of the many ghost tours in the city. I hadn't realized there were little ride-type portions of the Dungeon either, it was very cool and so much more involved than what I expected for our money. Cool gift shop too. I found an optional survey in the gift shop and actually stood there for awhile filling it out, I was so impressed by this place.
Seriously, go check it out!
M. B.
Great place to spend an hour and a half. It's an interactive experience with live actors talking you through the tour. And they are really funny with it. I recommend booking online as it's £4 cheaper than on the door.
G. M.
Great visit to Edinburgh Dungeons.
The actors and actresses were really great and took to their roles.
My son loved it although the last couple of sections were a bit too scary for him but overall he enjoyed himself.
J. L.
Went there twice with my boyfriend and his family. Actors are great and it's really interesting to learn more about the city and the old Edinburgh. It's a bit scary sometimes which add to the atmosphere and we really liked it. Recommend this place for English speaker as it's only in English (with a strong Scottish accent :P). Will be back again
s. b.
Had a great trip here, what an experience. the actors were fantastic had so many frights. defo recommend. only reason I never gave 5 star was I felt there were too many people in our group there were around 30 ppl. in some of the rooms this made seeing difficult. would defo go back.
A. T.
If you like history shows then this is your thing. Incredible place to visit and wonderful staff. The entire day was spent mesmerising at the items and story’s on offer. Truly magnificent day for all the family and kids. Try this if you are any where near the area to visit while in Edinburgh. Truly marvellous and magnificent and can’t rate highly enough. Come visit even for the half day as it will be well worth your while.
Thank you to everyone who made the day special for my elderly mother and our little boy. Jack enjoyed himself so much and my mother wants to visit again next year please. On that note do you do any seasonal admission tickets perhaps? This may be a way to invite more tourists in and keep them coming back. Just a thought and an idea.
Thank again
Mandy Taylor
J. S.
Well organised
It's really for kids but it's fun at the expense of adults which is fine
They were very friendly and good at keeping groups apart.
My little boy was 7 but he was fine
D. C.
Literally didn't stop laughing! The actors are superb, the tour is awesome and would highly recommend to all - don't forget to get your photos at the end, they are just as shocking as the dungeons!
C. f. (.
I was on my own as partner ran the marathon. So made welcome as soon as I arrived. The acting in this place deserved an Oscar. They make you feel part of the show. Picking audience members. Making you jump. Very theatrical. Great effects and rides. I love it. A* DEFO value for money
J.
Very fun, well worth a visit
L. J.
I'm a cynic and hard to scare, but I really enjoyed this place. Lots of history, 3-4 really interesting "rides" that you end up on without realising. Despite hating gift shops and staged photos, they edit and retouch them to make very cool souvenirs, we bought two.
Go when it's quiet, weekdays if you can, too many tourists and kids who are not taking it seriously would really spoil it. If you go at the weekend, Skip-The-Line tickets will save you some time!
c. w.
Went in without researching anything about it and I LOVED it. The actors were all entertaining. A little history mixed with terror. The rides were fun and fright worthy. I will definitely return.
A. M.
Me and my partner went here on Halloween, it was his first time and my second, however it had changed quite a bit since the last time I was there. It was such good fun, a little scary at times. It's definitely worth a look in if you love hearing stories and getting cheesy frights (I mean that in the best way). Only thing I wasn't keen on was just before it started we were to get pictures done now I hate getting my picture taken I'm usually the one taking the pictures but this guy was pretty pushy. Other than that it was great would definitely go again didn't put me off.
L. “. M.
Once the tour got started, it was very good & the kids loved it. After being admitted we waited half an hour in a crowded corridor for the tour to start, this spoilt it for me. Dread to think what it is like in August, this was November!
M. J.
A really brilliant experience, extremely immersive. The actors really make the experience what it is, they are excellent, would recommend to anyone. It is good for children however I would hesitate to bring children who are quite young as it is a bit frightening at times.
J.
Loved it! But felt they could choose more people instead of the same 3 all the time. That was the only disappointing part. The total number on our tour around the dungeons was 10, so thought it would be easy to choose people that hasn't been chosen. But still good.
a.
Been to 3 dungeons around the uk and this is my favourite! Lots of it is built into the original stone work making it look and feel more authentic. Good actors great stories too. Try the rides they are fun!
P. H.
Not bad, but not good either. We had better overall experience in London. The only scarry thing that you can expect here is that they will shout at you and turn off the light on various ocassions. Also it seems that our group had to skip the last part of this attraction (the falling bench = drop ride) with no explanation given. Also any pictures you take before the attraction are seriously overpriced. I therefore can not recommend this to anyone.
N. C. (.
Perfect!! Absolutely looooved the dungeon experience. The actors do a fantastic job and the ambiance is slightly spooky. I'd definitely recommend! Very many thanks and a bow from one pleased peasant!
J.
Went to Edinburgh at the weekend and visited the Dungeons during my time there, absolutely fantastic. Amazing acting, the actors/actresses don't break character no matter what you say or do they can adapt well to anything that happens. It's full of suspense as you make your way around. You can expect some some jump scares during the experience that will get your heart racing. The scariest and freakiest part out of the whole experience is the boat ride, it is truly terrifying, I won't go into detail about it, you'll just have to go and find out for yourself.
Worth the money, I highly recommend it!
G. C.
Great, great great. The actors are great. They managed to give scares to several people including me. Theres are several rides including a boat and a drop ride. It's a great way to get a great of the dark ages. No photos are allowed otherwise I would have added some.
C. S.
Visited here about a year ago! It was our first time doing the dungeons and we absolutely loved it! The whole thing was well acted, funny and insightful throughout. If you’re visiting Edinburgh then visit this place along the way!
S. C.
Great tour with excellent presentation and performance.
S. H.
Absolutely loved this place!
Took my wife here a while back and didn't know what to expect. Growing up in Edinburgh I was pleasantly surprised to know all the characters being talked about at this attraction. The tour just got better and better and all the actors were excellent really engaging and well rehearsed in there parts. The rides included in the tour really made it work for me and gave it all some variety. I would recommend this to everyone. 5 stars from us 👍🏻
D. S.
Excellent tourist destination, well worth a visit!
S. K.
Very atmospheric and entertaining. The tour took about 2 hours and the group size was just right. The actors were awesome and made it a memorable experience. Also learned a lot about the dark history of Edinburgh. We had 3 families with kids (younger than 12/13 I guess) on the group. Two of them had to leave in the middle of the tour because it was too scary for the kids. So maybe not suitable for younger children. Aside of that it’s worth every penny!
I. C.
Great place to visit. The actors are brilliant. Highly recommended.
L. D.
If you're looking for something to do with teenagers, you've found it. A really good trip out, full of laughs, scares and history. Younger children may find some parts too scary so be aware of that. Good for couples and groups of adults.
C.
Brilliant fun. Have spent birthdays here and it has always been a laugh. Be weary about bringing young ones as on one of my trips a young girl, maybe 5 or 6, cried not too long into the tour and had to leave with her mum as her brother and dad went on.
G. O.
Good fun with some good actors, but quite limited in its scope. Scenery was a bit naff and beaten up. Some of the 'rides' weren't very good or did not work. It really needs some significant investment to justify the entrance price. I wouldn't visit again, but I am glad I went once.
A. C.
Fun filled and informative!! Maybe not for younger children though!!
N. P.
Came here expecting a museum light hearted take on prisons and the are of torture, it was not what we got. Very entertaining and very professional but be ware, things get very scary if you are a bit squeamish! If you can handle it I would really recommend it
j. g.
We had a really good time. A little something different and a lot of fun!
A. W.
Where do I start with the Edinburgh Dungeon. The staff were wonderful and the wait was most definitely worth it. The whole experience provided a great balance of fright and comedy. The tour was very well laid out and the actors/actresses played the or parts extremely well. I would highly recommend this tour to anybody travelling to Edinburgh for a short or long stay.
S. K.
Really enjoyed this. Have been twice, first time was far better than the second as there was only a small group and it felt very personal. In future I would try to make sure it was off season as I would definitely go again. People played their parts very well and added to the experience greatly.
G. S. T.
At a level suitable for both older kids and adults, this experience will take you back through the history of Edinburgh with a supernatural twist.
Probably not suitable for younger children as it can be quite scary at points. We took our scouts along here (10-14 years) and they all loved it.
M. K.
We had a great experience here, thank you
J. M.
Great fun for all the family
T. M.
Great experience and very unexpected.staff were all fun .We are going back up next week to take the kids .highly recommended
