Reviews of Crawick Multiverse

An amazing place, even on a windy, showery day.
Well worth a drive out to. The views from the top are incredible so I'd recommend that route. It's a gradual climb but nothing strenuous.
Good footwear advised - walking boots or wellies. Lots of muddy, slippy areas.
Come prepared and it's not a problem.
Well worth the entrance fee.
S. W.
What a beautiful place for a walk and a unique setting.
The drive was great heading there, such an isolated feeling.
The place was closed, but you can still access it, and parking is plenty (donation only online)
Small shop and toilet facilities when open.
Easy to walk around and a number of unique places sculptures of rocks.
Great view from the top.
Slippery when muddy and wet so bring suitable boot or shoes
Was mid afternoon on a Friday and nobody else around.
Definitely worth a stop on your journey

I thoroughly enjoyed my time visiting. It has a really peaceful and serene vibe which I liked. Plenty of parking space and areas to have a picnic and watch the world go by. There is a small ticket booth come cafe that sells hot and cold drinks and snacks. Bring your own sandwiches if you are visiting over lunchtime.
The art installations are really cool and you can appreciate the work and effort that went into constructing them. The view from the Belvedere and Void is beautiful especially on a clear sunny day.
If you are looking for a high tech attraction then this isn't for you but if you want to chill and appreciate what they've done to reclaim the land from what mining did to it or just to walk your dog then this is for you.
P. R.
A little bit satisfying very peaceful but also very made. The landscape neither looks really or fantastical. Great design but still needs time to blend. Great for a picnic or private time. Fiver to get in
P. B.
Blimly, no sign post to this place, post code stops you 1.5 miles from the site, please sign post more clearly...Great views from the top end of the location and some lovely structures. But the paths around the location are not secure in my my opinion and not thought out well. Really uncomfortable under foot and very slippy. Nearly fell a couple of times. Certainly not suitable for wheelchairs or those with walking disabilities.

Spur of the moment decision to visit. Well worth the trip.
The site has been landscaped, inspired by astronomical features. So there are spiral paths up hills representing the Milky Way and Andomeda galaxies, comets and the Multiverse. The Sun amphitheatre has a mosaic representing the solar wind and earth's magnetic field.
All this is second to the peaceful nature of the site.
We spent a very peaceful hour just wandering
a. i.
I loved this place and it seemed magical to my 5 year old. She loved exploring, something different and unexpected on our trip. Cheap and good value for money. Dogs allowed and free.
T. R.
We all loved it here! Make sure you bring lots of energy! Amazing views! Our daughter Andromeda particularly enjoyed climbing up Andromeda!
R. H.
Great place for a adventure, free parking, can get refreshments and there a toilets available, advise if visiting to take sturdy Boots and warm jacket as out in the open, definitely worth a visit. Nice staff
G. B.
Was amazed by the size of the place, great place to bring dogs. There is a small entry fee though with what's available on site it's fair enough. There are toilet facilities a very small gift shop and snacks at also available to purchase.
A. H.
What an amazing site. Land reclamation at its finest 👏. Good facilities, parking toilets, snacks and coffee etc. 🐕🐕 welcome. cheap entry.
V. B.
Really loved the Multiverse. Views were spectacular and I loved the Sun Amphitheatre, milky way and all the other constructions. Lovely walk to the top rewarded with a fantastic landscape. You should go.
R. J.
This place is amazing! Great land sculptures and plenty to see. Interesting designs of the planets and my favourite was the milky way. Walks around the area are suitable for those who can manage small walks and those that like a challenge. Very good price of £4 a person and love a place that you can also get a brew and biscuit as well.
Would highly recommend seeing this as it was amazing!!
S. J.
Crawick Multiverse is a unique location which is an art / cosmology installation set in a former open cast mine. It is great fun and different people will see and take different things from the site . For me it came across as a cross between Stone Henge and Teletubby land. Great for kids as well with spiral paths up hills, vantage points and great areas for running and hiding in plain site 👍👍👍
L. F.
Brilliant, a beautiful place to walk around. The muscles ws great too
A.
Nice walk for the dog. We went on a dry hot day, paths were great. But unsure how some of them would be in the wet as there is quite a steep walk to the highest point but a couple of different ways up. Fascinating.
C. H.
Very well maintained, a nice walk round and details for each section in the booklet from the ticket office. Something very different.
I. W.
Best day out I've ever had. Beautiful artworks and interesting landscapes..would recommend anyone to visit. Kids will love it.
A. H.
Great place to walk around with the dog (must be on a lead) and families. The exhibits are intriguing and the history of the origination of them is good, although could be included in the handout. The garden and forest aspects are well maintained and the paths are good throughout with a very informative cafe area for the beginning/end of the walk around.
D. B.
Remarkable place featuring striking landforms and incredible views over the Nith valley.
Quite a walk up and down all of the hills, with some of the paths quite narrow in places, but very rewarding all the same.
Would not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems, though an off-road wheelchair would be able to tackle much of it.
C. M.
Fascinating place to visit. Warm welcome from staff and lots to see.
S. C.
Lovely place to walk around with the family. Beautiful scenery and sculptures. Minimum cost, toilets were good and has a little tuck shop selling coffee and cakes. Highly recommend
L. K.
We stopped on a short detour up from Cockermouth toward Biggar taking the scenic A76 in crossing the river Nith a few times, and the B740 out following Crawick Water up a pleasant less-trodden valley.
At Crawick Multiverse we were blessed with with blue skies, big clouds and bright sunshine. The nice weather certainly adds to the effect of the pleasantly mysterious and artistic landforms. It's a good space with nice views around over Crawick toward the Lowther hills.
There is a new visitor centre and toilets, with a kiosk selling tickets for the park, and offering light refreshment from the kiosk; cake bars, sweeties, crisps, bean-to-cup coffee, etc.
M. J.
amazing gardens, so we'll looked after with some amazing plants
D. J.
Nice little hidden gem, lively short walks on well made paths. Great views and plenty of stone structures to explore.
Can be muddy when wet and slippy. Car park is small and gets full quickly.
A. H.
Excellent outdoor art installation. Allow about 2-3 hours for your visit. Friendly staff, nice clean toilets, refreshments available. Very interesting.
G. S.
What a find! I was really impressed with the imagination, creativity and work that went into this. A grand scale fusion of art and science that really achieves its ambition and our dog loved it too! Walking around takes about 90 minutes and feels like a slightly surreal journey of archeological and scientific discovery. I found the combined effects of the dramatically changing landscaped views, Neolithic inspired installations and deep time cosmology a very rewarding experience. Recommended to anyone with an open mind.
A. M.
Great outdoor space, gorgeous on a hot sunny day
N. G. (. G.
Awesome little stop in the countryside of Scotland.
G.
Exceptional day out, peaceful and interesting, a great way to exercise as well, those hills were so steep!
M.
Amazing place to walk
O. D.
The views from the highest point on a good day are breathtaking. Very muddy so a good solid pair of boots is essential. Really enjoyable. Very windy too at height, wrap up warm if it is anything less than baking outside. But so worth it. Shortly after taking the snowstorm came in!
M. M.
Nice place for a walk(not much to do besides that), was not busy at all even on a nice weekend afternoon.
M. I.
Very nice place is impressive.
You can walk and have a good time.
S. A.
See website for opening times & prices. Great space. Friendly staff. New toilets are a welcome addition.
D. T.
What a lovely place. Well designed. Out of something so dark, as an open coal mine, is recreated something so beautiful. Sad to think how much employment was also created by the mine previously. A real juxtaposition of thoughts and feelings. Fantastic scenery
r. m.
A must see if you in the area. Plenty of fun for everyone. Even on a rainy day. Car parking. There is an entry fee, but not everyone was paying it!
T. A.
Was a bit dubious about the value for money before we visited but so very pleased we opted to go.
The gardens were lovely and really well landscaped. Loads of exploring to do for people of all ages.
It was dog friendly too and we saw a fair few dogs with their owners.
P. A.
Great walk & views. Sculptures are interesting and there's a picnic area, toilets and basic shop/cabin
P. a.
Brilliant place not bad if you like to walk up hill's
M. A.
A great wee place well worth a punt! Don't listen tae the folks bleatin on aboot the portaloo! It's a portaloo get a grip!! The actual place is braw it needs an hour or 2 tae take in. How ever make sure ye have on good boots if the weather has been naff the day before
A. P. (.
Really cool and intresting
H. M.
Brilliant place to visit. Great walks (can be muddy so take your wellies) Views are amazing on a good day.
P. B.
Brilliant walk along the comet route. Great view at the top. Very dog friendly and wasn't too crowded.
H. C.
The scale and the engineering skill to produce this place was undoubtedly immense and in a few years I'm sure it'll be more settled into the landscape. Was a bit muddy on the day we went and the navigation aids were minimal. Honestly, I didn't quite get the artistic meaning behind it but I was a fun and unique day out.
R.
Definitely a must see! £5 an adult is slightly steep but going towards a good cause. Beautiful to see.
m. l.
Wonderful venue for festivals, meeting up with family or just a quiet time
H. S.
Really lovely. Sculptures .Good day out. Would recommend it .
J. C.
Give yourself 2hrs to thoroughly explore..terrific use of a disused open cast mine- take a picnic
J. M.
Always an awesome day here. Like Stonehenge times a thousand
M. P.
It looks better in the pictures, but the view is amazing from the top. It really needs a toilet, I hope the visitors centre will be ready soon
E. B.
Great place for all ages. Dog friendly 2. Very interesting..
T. C.
This place is amazing. The sculptures from metal and wood to the spiralling mounds are breathtaking and its all free.
I. B.
Great atmosphere, and creative installation. Need good walking shoes (and energy!)
m. s.
Well worth a walk. Love it.
K. G.
Very interesting place. Great place to visit with the kids.
S. C.
A surprise treat. Beautifully executed modern take on stone circles.
L. U.
Loved it! We'll definitely be back
J. A.
Interesting place to wander around. Manageable even for those of us who are not the fittest! Fabulous views from the top but not for the feint hearted or those scared of heights steep slopes in places and narrow paths. Definitely worth a visit though as plenty to see and wander around at lower levels too.
R. C.
Lovely walk and amazing sculptures and natural art.
G. E.
A lovely place to go to relax and unwind.
A. D.
Such a magical place, litterlay from another universe. Thank you for this adventure of pure eye joy!
T. M.
Beautiful works of land art by Charles Jenks, fantastic walks, and scenery.
C. B.
Great day out. Good facilities. Easy to get to. Will definitely come back
M. A.
Took the whole family and it was absolutely awesome, a lot to look at and truly beautiful views. We had a great time and the kids had a blast climbing all the hills, overall a wonderful experience. 10/10 would go again
m. f.
Visited on a cold wet day but still impressed with this interesting landscape art.
S. b.
The place is unique and we got a beautiful sunny day to visit and had place to ourselves!
There are lots of rare flowers, insects(dragonflies and damselflies), birds(swallows) etc.
However it is a wee bit austere and could perhaps do with some sculptures, like Greek statues in places eg Zeus holding up the Cosmos or Aphrodite emerging from one of the small lochs!
Just a personal opinion!
J. B.
Great place to walk the dogs regardless of the weather
I. D.
Nice place to walk and think about the cosmos. Well worth a visit
D.
Amazing place with fantastic views. Give yourself a good couple of hours for a proper visit.
M. M. (.
Most enjoyable & informative walk/place to explore. Toilets & picnic benches available. Cost £5.00
A. N.
Lovely visit and walk, Heidi loved it 💕 …
K. T.
Well sign posted easy to find and get to. Great views and walks
P.
An interesting place to look around, very quiet and good for a picnic. Portable toilet is a bit grim as is the lack of bins and let's be honest, five pounds is a fair bit (no student entry) but still a good outdoors walk with some lovely views
A. M.
Great place to see. Can get very muddy so I recommend wearing walking boots. Ideal when not busy if you want to see it all and walk to the top of all the hills/pyramids. I believe the season closes on 27th October and is closed until spring (best to double check)
K.
A great day out for all the family. We were there on a beautiful afternoon which helps - three generations had great fun exploring all the very imaginative and evocative landscape sculptures.
We were glad to have taken water with us, there is nothing to buy on site.
N. C.
You sometimes find a place which turns out to be both deceivingly huge and unexpectedly fun! This is it! Massive open area filled with the strangest structures you will ever see, strange but amazing. A 3d world of fun and as it turns out great exercise at the same time! Quite a safe place to go during this covid 19 pandemic and safe distancing is not a problem. Also free at the moment which is a bonus!
J. S.
Amazing and inspiring place! Free parking, cheap entry and dogs go free. Great for a wander.
M. L.
Interesting outside exhibit...its literally taking a country walk like no other. Main complaint is that they dont post the explanation of each exhibit often enough so by the time you see some you've forgotten what they are supposed to be and there is no reference nearby. Take a photo of the explanation sign at the entrance and reference it as you go around!
S. J.
Very picturesque and interesting place. Great views and lovely for a picnic on a fine day . Nice walk .
M. H.
It would be unfair to properly rate the experience based on my visit today, as it was wet and windy but I expect it would be a very nice place to visit on a good day.
It was free to get in with a fairly small car park. The ground was largely grass and so trainers or boots are recommended. I think you would struggle with a pram.
The actual attraction is some, presumably, man made mounds and stone circles, along with an 'ampitheatre'.
A nice place for fresh air and to stretch the legs and I can imagine kids running around having a great time. There's some very nice views as well, just not really the weather for it when we went.
A. M.
Amazing place to spend an afternoon walking around- amazed by the rock facts and use of landscape as sculpture. Nice hot chocolate too
R. S.
Loved wondering around this place. Was nice to just sit and take things in at each land form. Very peaceful.
M. X.
Interesting way to use groundworks and much preferred to an ugly quarry. We visited in autumn so very wet - sturdy shoes essential.
The views are stunning, as is the surrounding countryside. Wcs in the car park and no cafes etc..but plenty of places to have a picnic.
I get the impression the park is still being worked on as some areas seem unfinished and rough. Cosmic contemplation out the door as the ground staff were there with grass cutting equipment.
Great idea though and for £5 worth a day out. We spent a good 3 hours there.
J. M.
Great place to visit for a walk around, it's strenuous in parts but mainly good paths, staff were very friendly and informative.
J. S.
An awesome place to visit. It is amazing to walk down the avenue of stones. I will definately visit again.
m. m.
Always a good walk.. mind get a coffee it's awfully good. Get there sharp when it's quiet..
D. M.
Amazing ! I love standing stones and this place doesn't disappoint. Great walks and any photographer's dreamscape full of photo opportunities. I can see it featuring in a Hollywood movie.
It has the cleanest portaloo I've ever had occasion to be in.Personally I think the £5 entry fee is fair considering the work that has been done and upkeep.
S. T.
Stunning 360 views from the top and interesting concept art.
J. M.
Great wee walk. Not too long, but over steep and uneven terrain. Excellent views and interesting content.
L. M.
Amazing place. Feels totally different in the sunshine and
when the bracing wind is whipping around. Wear stout footwear and allow a couple of hours. No refreshments but there is a good cafe in the petrol station in nearby Sanquhar.
S. D.
Excellent place to visit. The day we went was special in support of Maggies centre. This meant one of the astronomers who designed it Steve Owens was there and was fascinating to speak with. The other big name here is Charles Jencks who was also involved in the design. The landform structures are amazing. You can walk up the Milky Way and Andromeda. A brilliant way to teach kids a bit about space astronomy etc. And a lovely peaceful magical spot. Well worth a visit
p.
Quirky wee place, free of charge.
M. M.
Super place to visit, most interesting. Super views.
R. M.
Excellent space to run free fascinating landscape look out for special events
B. W.
Plenty to see and photograph, excellent walk and climb. Good exercise.
B. L.
This place is fantastic it will move most people with it's breathtaking views and Neolithic style architecture this is a place to savior and spend time to explore take a picnic you'll want to spend at least a couple off hour's here and it's free to visit so what's not to like so give it a try you won't be disappointed
P. W.
An extraordinary magical place. It is wonderful how Jencks has taken what is obviously a quite profound knowledge of astronomy and carved it into the landscape. It deserves to be much better known: I'm incorporating it into an astronomy course I teach.
D. R.
Well worth the visit - a unique experience.

L. B.
We just stopped to have a quick look and get info. Sounds amazing, quite cheap to get in, will drop be back to see it all.
D. M.
Fascinating depiction of astronomical bodies in land and stone. Great outdoors and learning experience, particularly dramatic in the Dumfriesshire weather. Not very well signposted, but definitely worth a visit
C. D.
Really lovely place. There are very few facilities here but if you go prepared for it then it really doesn't matter. The small town of Sanquhar is just 5 mins drive away.
C. M. N.
An interesting place for family picnic with lots of amazing stone works.
L. P.
Liked the maze, climbing up hills, spiritual atmosphere..
S. T.
Very nice for a family. Visited during Covid closure, so no information available on the structures, but on the plus side, it was free to enter

Find a nice day and go !!! Find a slightly less than nice day and go, …. go unless it’s belting down with rain, or snow up to your ears, …. Every other time …. Just Go !
J. B.
Great place to take the dog but gets a bit wet with all the grass. Some parts are hard to believe they are man made and not part of an archiological dig.
G. H.
Really great day out. Peaceful and inspiring.

Very unusual. Definitely worth a visit just to say you've been there.
