Reviews of Equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington, Glasgow
This is one of the must see sites when in Glasgow. Despite the best efforts of the city the cone always returns to the Duke and it makes this a whacky and bizarre site that will be one of the highlights of your trip.
This beconed statue has become a symbol of Glasgow's quirky sense of humour, and generally jovial outlook on the world.
The council have repeatedly tried to remove this iconic cone but it is always replaced. They even thought about adding an additional 10 feet to the plinth. Glaswegians were having none of it.
Popular culture holds that if you see him without his cone it falls upon you personally to replace said cone as a matter of urgency.
A must see when walking around Glasgow. Close to Buchanan St so easy to get to and grab a quick photo.
10/10 would visit again. Makes me smile everytime
Cool statue with a funny hat.
Good place and gallery is awesome no fee at the basement you have free library ,I really liked that
Glaswegian humour at it's best
Beautiful, especially the hat 🤭
This is a Mandatory visit to check the cone of the moment!!
An unlikely landmark in the centre of Glasgow which has become famous due to the traffic cones being placed on the Duke of Wellington head & on its horse, Glasgow city council has repeatedly removed the cones but after a public outcry they decided to leave them on as it sums the city & its inhabits up with regards to their sense of humour, you will always tend to see tourists taking pictures or selfies with the famous statue
Some great folks.
Really, it is easy to love a town that takes the micky out of the famous and dead. Plus, the traffic witches hat makes a nice contrast to the usual seagull roosts. Put a smile on my face.
Top tier photo location
Good visit spot.
Wellington looked better for wearing the Glasgow against Closures flag.....
✊✊✊
Amuses me every time
The cone is quite disrespectful. I’m sure that the cone is pretty disrespectful.
An iconic Glasgow landmark, as long as Wellington has a traffic cone on his heid!
Make sure not to miss the Duke!
haha it so funny with cone, never mind mate
Amazing. Was impressed to see two traffic cones on the statue, rather than just one.
Loved the cone.
The traffic cone really does well depicting the overall mood of the city. :)
Love it whenever am in town I get a selfie.....
It's a nice statue with a road cone on its heed simply as 😂

Public meme?
It's just a statue that often has a traffic cone on it. Nobody really cares.
Quality statue with a parking cone as welk
Very quiet. Almost no one there.
He only had two construction cones on him today.
Nice monument, interesting history about the cone in its head.

Statue of the Duke of Wellington. Located in the central area, directly in front of the Gallery of Modern Art.
Legend has it that in the 1980s, a drunken Scotsman pranked the poor duke with a traffic cone. (Damn Scots, they ruined Scotland. Quote: Willy). The city council removed it several times, and it was repositioned as many times. Now the statue, with its strange hat, is considered a unique work of art.
The statue was created by Italian sculptor Carlo Marochetti and was placed in 1844, outside the Museum of Modern Art. The Duke of Wellington's hat in Glasgow's Royal Exchange Square has stood for some thirty years now. Once, a drunkard thought it was a good idea to put a traffic cone on the head of the man who defeated Napoleon at Waterloo. The cone was removed by City officials, but groups of cheerful Glaswegians, under the influence of alcohol, insisted on putting it back in its place. For the people of Glasgow, the statue with the orange cone is now the emblem of the city
Duke of Wellington Statue
It seems that someone, at some point unguarded, played a practical joke on the Duke's solemn memory, and that joke became institutionalized until it became one of the most representative icons (if not the most) of this great Scottish city. The sight of the bronze statue and its bonnet in front of the superb neoclassical architecture of the Gallery of Modern Art is a picture that no one can resist. Not seeing it is like not having visited Glasgow.
The iconic Glasgow image is now the Duke from a conflict hundreds of years ago with a traffic cone or 2 on his head , sums up the local sense of humour very well
An iconic statue of Glasgow. The cone began as a joke, probably by some drunken student, and the city council spent thousands of pounds removing it each year. Today, it's part of the monument after a Facebook campaign collected signatures to have it installed. The cone's color or decorations have been changed on various occasions; now it bears the Ukrainian flag. There have been over 20 cones!
Equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington with traffic cones on his head. Located in Royal Exchange Square, opposite the Museum of Modern Art. A true symbol of Glasgow. A must-see.
Equestrian statue of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, directly in front of the entrance to the Gallery of Modern Art. The statue was sculpted by Italian artist Carlo Marochetti and erected in 1844. It currently has a blue traffic cone with yellow stars on its head.
A beautiful statue of Major General Arthur Wellesley, later the Duke of Wellington, who defeated Napoleon in 1815 at the famous Battle of Waterloo. Since 1985, some people, for unknown reasons, have decided to put pins on the head of the Duke and his horse. Every time the local authorities tried to remove them, the pins were back in place the next day. In the end, this went viral and it was decided to leave the pins on the statue, which is why it is in this condition. The Scots have a strange sense of humor...
The story behind this attraction is very funny and the Scottish people's move to feature it on a keychain is very smart! Otherwise, for some, it would be just another "indifferent attraction".
Nice place. Wellington always has a bad haircut (a well-deserved haircut, some would say).
A first-class photo opportunity
Beautiful
How interesting!

❤️
Located right in the centre of glasgow, the iconic statue is worth the visit. It normally supports the cone but with what’s happening in the world right now it has a different cone. Go have a look
