Super interesting, but without a guided tour a bit difficult to grasp for a tourist. Reading everything takes long but is worth it. A very important part of Glasgow history 👍

Visited today 29/06/2022, was made very welcome from the staff and we had a wee chat before my guide Jim gave me a quick but informative tour before leaving me to wander around on my own. The restoration of the building is fantastic, especially the main reception with the marble columns and stairs with the big chandelier. The boardroom is a real trip back in time and very grand looking. The museum itself was full of great information and the interactive telivisions were a great help, I even saw and heard story's about guys I knew from my time working in the yard. Would definitely recommend a trip to the museum in Govan, it doesn't cost anything to get in but donations are very welcome to help with the upkeep.

Stunning restoration of a stunning building. I was last here around 10 years ago, and the once-magnificent rooms were in a dilapidated (bordering dangerous) state. The painstaking restoration must have taken years. But my, it was worth it.
Presenting the history of Govan shipbuilding must have been another mammoth task, but again, I was very impressed.
Everything was laid out in interlinking rooms with artefacts, details about famous ships, historic information and recorded voices of shipbuilders themselves from times gone by.
An absolute jewel of a place which everyone should see. Within these opulent walls, ornate cornice, and marble pillars, this shaped and formed the very heartbeat of Govan.
Credit also to the dedicated staff members, knowledgeable, warm, and friendly.

If yopu want to know the history of shipbuilding on the clyde this is the place to go. Fairfield heritage museum has modern mix with old traditional museums, 3D presentations on history of the firm, some great displays on model ships from past to present.
The building alone is worth the visit the stunning boardroom shows shipbuidng at its best on the Clyde. Fairfield is open from 1 -4pm Monday to Friday. small gift shop selling gifts. Big thanks to local guide for showing me round telling us the history of Shipyard.

The guide was an absolute star! Seemed genuinely pleased we came and was so enthusiastic about the building and Govans shipbuilding heritage. Quite possibly the most engaging tour I have ever had. Being from the area, it was fantastic to see how important the yard and it's history is to Govanites. I learned a lot on this tour, particularly about the amazing Isobella Elder. Would 100% recommend.

A fantastic opportunity to learn about ship building on the Upper Clyde. And a walk down memory lane.

Fantastic place. An excellent piece of history. Well laid out panels of story of shipbuilding industry. Opening hours are a bit limited but understandable if it is voluntary workers who run it. Would make better use of boardroom area would go back a million times 👍👍🌞

A hidden gem, we heard of this place during our visit to the Govan Stones, which is just nearby. Sauntered over and we were very pleasantly surprised by the museum here covering a shipbuilding history of Glasgow.
Very modern refurbished space, covering social and industrial areas of local history. Some excellent interactive touchscreen modules, scale models and real memorabilia.
Great experience.

What a brilliant day out in Govan. Shipbuilding was the heart of Govan for so many people for so many years. We need to celebrate it. Innovation. Industry. All brought to life by the really enthusiastic volunteers. Can't recommend this highly enough.

A wonderfully restored building which was once the offices of Fairfield, the largest ship builders on the Clyde. A really good history of the building of the shipyard and the people who worked there as well as the ships built. The guys who maintain the museum are really helpful and give their own accounts of the area. If you are in Glasgow this is a lovely museum to visit. Open from 1pm to 4pm weekdays. In Govan district on Govan road a few minutes walk from Govan subway. Highly recommended.
A. M.

(Translated) It really is an excellent museum. The collection is very complete and has very good technological resources.
Due to its history, the architectural space is unbeatable to get an idea of what was the importance of the shipyards on the Clyde, not only for Glasgow, but for the world. It is really worth coming to this little visited area of the city just for this building.
