What a fantastic place and our tour guide Simon was great with all the facts and stories from the past to the present I can't fault it any one wanting a trip to the prison go I highly recommend it

I really enjoyed my tour. The guide is very knowledgeable and you get a lot of information. It lasted about 2 hours and we walked around the outside grounds and inside some of the buildings, including the oldest part. I would definitely recommend it.

Site itself was absolutely incredible. Amazing indoor CQB games blended with external long sightlines for snipers. The guy who ran the site though was extremely rude, making inappropriate and offensive jokes, and mouthing off a lot of slander, including being racist to us for being Welsh. He singled me out for my size and wearing an SAS themed morale patch in front of everyone. There's just no need for it. The marshalling was pretty non-existent too. There weren't many rules in effect such as the "bang" rule not in use (which I don't mind) but then there seemed to be no effort by the marshalls to resolve on-field conflicts at all. Amazing venue, poorly run and poor professionalism.

Really fascinating place to visit. We went on the guided tour which was extremely interesting and our guide Simon (ex prison guard) was very informative. This is a truly brilliant place to explore but don't forget it's a decommissioned jail cold, gritty and unfriendly if I'm honest, but don't let this put you off go and visit while you have the chance.

Such an interesting place to visit. We took the guided tour which was value for money as it was 2hrs long and guided by a prison officer. Really knowledgeable. Blinking cold tho wear your thermals and hat. Got to go round pretty much all the prison and go in the cells etc.

Very interesting we spent almost three hours here with some young children too. No good for pushchairs really though, you'll find it difficult to see it all. It's closing in October so get your skates on if you're interested.

I was really impressed with the quality of this tour. It was originally established as a temporary attraction whilst the former prison goes through planning and consents for redevelopment. This now appears to have changed and the yours are continuing which is wonderful news. The detail and level of history covered in the guided tour is incredible and I'd highly recommend anyone with an interest to visit while they can.

A great experience. We did a self guided tour and the information could've been a little better. A guided tour is recommended to gain the most knowledge, unfortunately they were fully booked when we visited. A very interesting afternoon for both kids and adults. Staff were brilliant and very knowledgeable.

Very interesting place to visit, do it whilst you can, Julian our guide was very informative and talked from experience, as he worked there. I would highly recommend the tour. It would be great to perhaps do a historical tour as well? As the site itself has such historic value, originally being the site of Gloucester Castle and earlier prison buildings.

We had booked the guided tour and it was really good. Our tour guide Geoff was brilliant, he explained that he had worked there over the past 32 years and so knew all the ins and outs of the prison. There was tea and coffee available on arrival and the experience lasted around two hours. We had about eight people in our group so it wasn't too many people to have gathered around to listen to everything. At certain points there are places to take some brilliant pictures and it was amazing to see what it was like for prisoners and knowing what it was like to actually work there. Great day out with the family. Recommend to all

What a great tour. Very relaxed and informative the retired p/o had lots of stories to tell for the years he'd worked there and also good knowledge of the prisons history. If you get the chance to go, go. It's nothing like what I imagined it would be like, I've driven past it countless times so I'm glad I've actually been in but as a paying guest lol.

Worth a visit. Don't expect a polished exhibit, this is basically an abandoned prison but a great glimpse into our history. We didn't do the guided tour and finding your own way around whilst more tricky was very eerie eye opening! Look out for the old execution building (long demolished) but you can still see the outlines at the end of A Block near the Governors House....spooky.....

Really enjoyed the two-hour tour led by former prison officer, Steve. He brought it alive to us and we learned a lot. Highly recommended! This amazing historical attraction is only going to be here for another two and a half years and then it is due to be redeveloped, which is a great shame. Real gem and a huge site for you to explore at your own pace. Definitely worth the price especially for anyone who likes history or old abandoned buildings. The general rule here seems to be unless the door is locked or it says no entry, you're free to explore.

My firm used this for a networking event, but we also had a tour of the site and an interesting talk from one of the former guards. Shame to see it has suffered some deterioration since it was operational, and the former staff were keen to point it out, but you still get a feel of how the prison must have been. Not sure how many more seasons this place has left in it so see it whilst you can!

A bit expensive which seems to put people off but a very interesting site, had full access to roam free around the prison, i arrived early and had the whole prison to myself. The main wings are beautiful buildings externally. Have been past the prison thousands of times before and always wondered what was inside.

We had a really excellent family day out at Gloucester Prison! Would recommend doing the tour which is a real insight into prison life and the history of the prison. Steve, our guide was extremely knowledgeable and made it equally fascinating for kids and adults alike! Parking at Westgate car park was easy and is a flat rate of £2 all day on a Sunday.

When it was open to visitors, this was a must place to visit to have an insight of what prison life would be like. Very disappointing that Gloucester Council have decided it's no longer their money's worth to keep open, and it will now go to building developers to make profits to themselves.

We did the guided tour. Thought it would be good...it was superb. Having lived in Gloucester all my life I have now learned a lot about this part of it. Quite an eye opener to see how the prisoners were detained and what kind of things went on behind the bars.. Steve, our guide was a current Prison Officer in another prison. He knew everything first hand he had all the answers to all the questions thrown at him. Excellent for all the family.. They can only assure tours until April so I thoroughly recommend you go before it's too late and the bulldozers appear.

Really good place. The prison is starting to show it's age now but you still the get the see what it was like. Staff are very nice. It is quite an unusual place but I recommend visiting.

The tour was good, and the prison is well worth a visit. To make the experience better it would be good if the tour guide gave some more historical context of the prisoners held there, for example the story of Herbert Rowse Armstrong or the young children held there as referenced for stealing sweetmeats in the information cards within the entrance would add greater context to the visit. Also, the visit could be enhanced through the use visual displays, just here and there and this could be achieved through relative little expenditure, if they were able to go further sound effects would be a bonus as combined these would give a feel for the place. The prison itself is deteriorated it would be an absolute shame if its legacy and message were erased and the building demolished. Schools, colleges and universities alike could make use of such facilities for education purposes.

The tour around the prison is conducted by a retired prison guard, he was extremely informative and made the tour what it was. I would advise everybody to do this tour before it's destroyed and flats are plonker in it's place.
