We came to see Six on tour. The queue outside was long but moved surprisingly quickly, we were in within a few minutes. The ladies loos had a strange layout (you'll know what I mean if you go...) but again we got through quickly. We had cheap seats but the view was OK and the lights /sound were spot on. My partner had an aisle seat and was very happy with his view-I'd recommend an aisle seat. He nipped for a cup of tea before the show started and returned a few seconds later, so the bar was obviously following the efficient theme of the place.
Car parking at Albion St was close and only cost a couple of quid, though I think it only takes coins so be prepared (who carries cash these days?!)
Great venue, will visit again. Thanks 👍🏼
J. J.
A lovely theatre, with a bar where food can be bought. Not my first visit but this time we had stall seats for Six the Musical and it was awesome. Comfortable, great acoustics and a fabulous view of the performance, which, by the way, was incredible. Will be visiting again, and again....😍

On the night we visited, was a full house but only to be expected for The Lord of the Dance but the staff (in masks) kept everyone well organised and people moving. First time visiting since renovations completed and would appear a job well done.
k. r.
Great little theatre. Only downside is the queue for bar especially in the intervals. Would be a good idea to have more staff or put a bar upstairs.
T. H.
Went to see Mama Mia 💕 best night ever .The cast were amazing such great singing and heartfelt acting . It was as good as the film and the added humour was super especially one young man who had everyone in stitches. Well done to the production team 👏. What a beautiful theatre too would come here again.
S. H.
Went to see lord of the dance/riverdance it was great. I am disabled in a wheelchair staff care for me so helpful my seat was easy to get too and the toilet for disabled was great it would have catered for all types of disability.
J. R.
Went to see snow white, superb. Not sure if the big kids or the little ones enjoyed it more
Seats were comfortable and we'll spaced out
n. r.
Great theatre recently refurbished. Easy on street parking within walking distance. Plenty of bars inside. Comfy seats offer a great view from anywhere.
Another venue that Hull should be very proud of
D. K.
Good location not far from town centre, bar staff were friendly and efficient. Good view of the stage from all seats. Good leg room between seats. Fantastic show The Jersey Boys...talented cast..
T. R.
Show was amazing, however the theatre was average at best. Card machines not working, staff in and out doors throughout performance, lack of direction to guests. Good accessibility and cleanliness were the stand out features.
J. O.
Went to see Everybody Loves Jamie with friends. The theatre is lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful. The show was amazing!
d. w.
I was disappointed as I have not been since it has been altered I believe a lot of money has been spent..to make it accessible l the toilet for the disabled near to the bar is very poor cant swing a cat in it,.not many disabled places in the theatre. The lift to get from the foyer to ground floor exit will only take one wheelchair God help if its busy. Also in stalls nr to row G on the right there is a steep slope which made my wife very nervous going to her seating area. Sorry New Theatre not got it right yet.
C.
Brilliant performance of the Addams Family! Sign posted well inside, friendly and helpful staff managing queues at interval very well. Straight forward to get you checked in and seated, plenty of toilets. Shame the seats are so uncomfortable but will definitely come again.
S. H.
I had a great seat, able to see all of the stage without any hindrance.
First time there, will certainly go again & would recommend it.
We saw Mamma Mia on opening night, absolutely brilliant 👏 👌
B. M.
Amazing production of Les Mis.
The Theatre has really give us a treat with this one.
👏👏👏👏👏
It's as if they have just dropped the West End into Hull 😃👏
J. C.
Beautifully presented theatre, recently refurbished, with friendly and helpful staff who really go the extra mile to look after you. We saw Les Miserables, which was simply awesome especially the lights and staging, but the whole theatre welcome and relaxed ambiance makes any visit special.
C. B.
It was a lovely & very spacious place to go watch the musical, Shrek. I loved ♥️it, but I just found, that my chair was uncomfortable at times. The facilities were not too bad & the ice-cream was just gorgeous. I was pretty satisfied with my visit to Hull New Theatre.
l. j.
Had great time at Hull New Theatre on recent visit to see the wonderful Marti Pellow. It's a nice mix of old theatre with new modern add on. The theatre spotlessly clean ,lots of toilets and surprised 2x coffees at kiosk only £3 ish.
Staff lovely too.
As I was with my disabled blue badge holder brother there are disabled spaces right outside theatre door. Bonus!!
Great visit ,would Def go back.
C. J.
Jersey boys omg what a treat. I don't no why I've not seen this before. Had a fantastic night. Also have to mention the staff how lovely they are and how helpful nothings too much trouble. Will be back again very soon n hull new theatre please please please book the jersey boys again loved it x
A. M.
We went to the Addams Family musical and it was amazing. The theatre itself was well organised, with bar and kiosks fully open. Seating was good, and the staff very helpful. Wonderful experience.
G. H.
Loved it ❤️ Very spacious & comfortable seats & a spectacular show!
S. C.
Wheelchair user friendly , lovely , helpful and friendly staff . Very good first time experience. Would visit again. The show - Jersey Boys was fantastic - amazing talent.
G. M.
Visited this venue for Les Mierables. Plenty of bars and places to eat. Very clean. Seats comfortable and theatre excellently presented. Sound quality awesome. Will be revisiting. Les Miserables 10/10.
J. S.
Not the most comfiest of seats but to be fair I am 6'5" and struggle to get comfy at most places. The performances are top notch, including our recent visit to watch 'Six' which I highly recommend. Unfortunately we didn't get to buy a program as massive queue at merchandise stall and only one person serving, we had dinner reservations and couldn't wait.
N. H.
The magic goes wrong show was very funny. Only negative is the seats could have done with a little bit more legroom.
A. B.
Amazing, first time I've been since the renovation - the stage is massive and the scenery absolutely stunning. Wow... I went to see Les Miserables and it was fantastic - I laughed, I cried, totally absorbing.
A. P.
Went to see Jersey Boys on sat 21st May. It was amazing.I would certainly go to see them again ,what a show I was captivated. Such a talented group of people.
K. B.
Went to see Les Miserable, what a terrific performance. We have seen the show in the WestEnd quite a lot of years ago. We really appreciated the show this time around as we were aware of some of the songs from the show.
I. C.
Love coming here it's a beautiful theatre. Only reason I didn't give it the full five stars is because the seats are uncomfortable after a while, and not very giving if your tall or have long legs.
C. B.
We love a good live show and theatre is really nice venue. Very good facilities and bar etc. Always come back here.
M. L.
Lovely place, went to see ‘Waitress’ and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Staff were all really friendly and the prices at the bar were not too expensive.
L. K.
Lovely venue, seats comfy, we had excellent view of stage. Only negative was lack of air circulation, it became very warm and stuffy.
C. S.
Went to see The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra- The music of Bond and we absolutely loved it! The theatre was well spaced out to adhere to covid restrictions. The seats aren't amazing for larger people (dig in a little) but we didn't care we loved it anyway. The grey that you see in the pictures were seats that no one was allowed to sit in so that people had their distance between bubbles.
D. D. O.
Loved this place we were upstairs in the circle very good access for seats and toilets upstairs bar and cafe were very good also good choice and fair price.
The stage production of Bedknobs and Broomsticks was fantastic.
N. H.
Kingston Square Gardens is a nice quiet place to sit and relax nice and clean new theatre just across the road with the old hull brewery site the maltings
M. B.
Bright clean and recently refitted. A warm welcome from staff. Comfortable seats with a clear view of the stage.
l. b.
Great shows over 2 weeks.
Tickets are expensive and don't really like the full rows of seats, liked them better split in the middle but still a nice night.
G. M.
Loved it and will definitely be going again.
J. A.
Love the shows we get here. Would love to see Wicked come . Just watched Les Miserables which was ace
M. M.
Excellent shows to go see .
Very hot in a summer doesn't seem to be any air conditioning in the theatre.
K. G.
Absolutely loved the Les Mis show tonight! Staff were lovely, the seats are comfortable and the snacks were good.
A. M.
A very spacious feel with a lot of leg room with what appears to be no possibility of a restricted view unless in the box as viewed from the circle.
Watched the Russian Ballet, the Nutcracker.
Remember to pre-order your drinks for the interval.
M. L.
Thoroughly enjoyed seeing Rocky Horror and les` miserables. Could do with a bigger bar though. Always seems to be a queue for drinks.
J. W.
Jersey boys = A1 perfect, brilliant show nice theatre, a lovely night night out had by all, and that was 3generations 😊
S. L.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING - first time we've been here and not really a fan of musicals but WOW definitly will be coming again. guys n girls the performance was epic and a fantasic memory for my family so thankyou again 👍
r.
The recent refurbishment has made this one of the best theatres in the region. Lovely bar areas and a fantastic programme of west end calibre shows. Would go here over Leeds any day.
e. d.
Took our daughter to see Mamma Mia we arrived a little later than we wanted so missed the merchandise stand and pictures in the chairs with film print on, drinks were mortgage worthy prices, but the venue was easy 2 find, clean plenty of toilets and bars to manage ques and the show we watched was fab.
S. H.
Not been here for a couple of years but always have a great experience. The shows are of course great but the theatre itself is first class for its service, cleanliness and friendly staff. It’s beautiful too, and huge! Usually pretty easy to get tickets for big west end shows at a fraction of the price of London.
K. S.
Absolutely brilliant only problem is there's only one bar and the contactless machine wouldn't work.
a. f.
Great to have the Theatre open to live audience again, we took 3 of the youngest grand children to the pantomime ( we are from Barnsley!)
Magical night for them and us! Even ' real' snow falling inside! Lovely night.
D. L.
First visit since the refurbishment and pandemic.
We were impressed by the work done.
The seats we were able to get for SIX said possible restricted view but there was nothing in the way and we were pleased with the view.
R. D.
Well laid out, seemed good view of stage from everywhere. Staff pleasant and helpful. Getting in to Hull is a different matter. The town planners have seemingly lost all common sense.
D. N.
We found some staff a little over bearing while queueing at the bar. Not been allowed to prepay for drinks at the interval very disappointing. Mamma Mia was fantastic as usual.
D. S.
Great theatre and great show. The only thing I would so is stop people taking drinks inside. People were up and down going to toilet
K. K.
Fantastic night at the theatre for the School of Rock production we loved every minute so glad to be back at the theatre again can't wait to go back 😀
J. B.
Six the musical was amazing. The bar area was overcrowded and there was a really long queue to buy a programme but entering the seating area was fairly quick. Staff were friendly.
B. M. f.
Hull new theatre is a beautiful venue, with friendly staff and lots of parking available nearby.
J. H.
Great show. The show and stage itself are good. The bar situation was very poor. Way to long to be served. Almost missing parts of the show. Lemonade syrup must have ran out. Tasted nothing like lemonade. A whole bar closed? Surely that would have eased. Not the staffs fault. But should have opened it all up. I recommend going to a local bar first and getting there bang on time for the show.
R. G.
Lovely old theatre with a great atmosphere and comfortable seats (not crammed in).
Booked last minute to see a show and had a great time, reasonably priced drinks (for a theatre), friendly helpful staff and plenty of free of road parking (after 6pm) in nearby streets.
J. G. M.
Went to see Bed Knobs and Broomsticks on Thursday, was fantastic. Staff we're great and the beer not too badly priced tbh.
J. S.
Had a brilliant afternoon, the show was amazing, the organisation was great and although the venue was full, leaving was easy and nothing felt crowded. A beautiful refurbishment
J. H.
Well it's been refurbished and my wife, daughter & I think they've done a good job. We went to see Hairspray which was excellent. A couple of people have said the seats were uncomfortable, however we disagree. We were sat for 2.5 hours and didn't have any issues, unlike vue conema seats. The audio is fantastic with singers projecting their voice clearly. There is a large bar at ground level that was jammed, a small soft drink/snack bar on the first floor and a larger liscenced bar a floor above. As expected drinks are not cheap but you're not there for a session. Vidials to the dtage is great, unless you have a six footer sat infront, then you need to lean a bit. Booster seats are available for children as well. Overall, a great place to see a show.
T. W.
Myself & friend are both disabled my friend wheelchair bound, tickets were £91, the performance was great it was the way we was dealt with, we both have dietary requirements ie lactose intolerant, I emailed HNT to ask if I could take my own snacks in 2 weeks before the show, still waiting for a reply, whilst we was in there, where the disabled spaces were placed was fine until the interval, everyone was rushing & pushing to get there ice cream, but not giving a thought to ppl in wheelchairs, my friend was in severe pain by ppl rushing & pushing to get by & on the way back, I had to move the wheelchair forward to try stop all of this, we mentioned this to staff for future reference but was told can the carer stand behind you to stop the pushing, paying £91 to be asked to stand, really not good practice, she then said she was going to get a complaints form from the office but came back & said there wasn't any, the ice cream cart either needs to be in the foyer or placed somewhere else away from the disabled wheelchairs,
n. M.
I was left rather disappointed in HNT. After all that money spent on the refurbishments, there was no sanitary bins in the womens toilets. Such a simple thing to make people more comfortable ?
K. J.
Mamma mia, fantastic! Bar areas upstairs are much improved, very spacious. Toilets sooo much better, lots more now! Overall great experience
P. H.
I enjoyed the visit but the seats are a bit hard for 70 year old. The performance of Carmen was excellent.
J. S.
It was great lovely seats even on row X, it was a great view.
s. 2. (.
It was my first time to see the panto I was very happy going with a group of friends and family the place was a sellout I was so surprised to see so many families there this was my first time no doubt this is not the end I will be going and coming back again staff were friendly and and happy atmosphere I thoroughly enjoyed myself I'm taking photos
R. H.
It was absolutely fantastic we all enjoyed every minute of mama mea and the sitting arrangements were next to none thank everyone involved in the show
W. N.
Watched Vampire Rocks and it was fantastic
C. W.
Brilliant show. Would see it again. Enjoyed my night out with my girls. X. X. X .
M. G.
Great shows but a nightmare at the interval getting refreshments. You have to be quick
L. B.
Absolutely loved Les Miserables last night. What a show x
D. S.
Fantadtic staff and theatre was amazing comfey seats with good leg room in front very clean
Y. W.
Was great and unfortunately I lost my phone in the theatre, I rung at 9am and found it. Were great and very helpful.
l. b. m.
Went to see Jersey boys. Excellent show. But the bar prices are ridiculous.
S. C.
Fantastic show -Jersey Boys but the seats (row Y) were so cramped, very close together and my husband who's 6ft 3 couldn't move his legs
D. w.
A beautiful theatre . Was our first time there . Was easy to find . The staff where extremely helpful and you feel covid safe there .
P. F.
Very good, food excellent and reasonably priced, can't wait for the next show
S. O.
The theatre is a nice historic building just off the city centre. It's easily accessed from Albion Street car park (which is cash only). Entry was quick an easy to the venue and staff were helpful in finding seats. The only points I can think to improve are there did seem to be quite big queues for the ladies' toilets and they'd run out of vanilla ice cream at the interval!
J.
Rocky Horror Picture Show was fantastic, comfy seats Area for wheelchairs.
Extremely very little waiting space for downstairs toilets, very squashed area for all that caused Disability toilet door almost covered.
People did make there way in the Disability door to not have to wait squashed to use any toilet
Disability toilet on stage floor good size with hoists not well signed though
V. M.
One word....."Excellent "
Would recommend to everyone a trip to the theatre.....
Enjoy 😘
M. H.
Amazing facilties, staff very helpful. Seating is very comfortable. Definitely recommend the circle seating for great views :)
j.
Just been to see snow white at the theatre, absolutely brilliant, all the cast were amazing especially the magnificent 7, funny from start to finish.. definately recommend so book a ticket and go and have a laugh.. Ps, i didnt have any children with me, just me and my partner, pantos not just for kids 😉
B. R.
The theatre is always very clean & well organised with friendly staff. The show we saw was lovely (Siberian ballet).
J. H.
Great venue, helpful staff and comfortable seating, bar and nibbles are available. Would normally be a 5 🌟 rating but disappointed that whilst we all feel for venues and the pressure of getting back to shows post Covid-19. However they didn't make it a requirement to use a face covering inside with a near capacity audience, clearly several people felt this was an unsafe situation and left before the show started.
H. S.
We attended the Hull New Theatre to see the Rocky Horror Show. It's the 2nd time we've seen it here... Its a lovely place and friendly too. It was quite cool in the foyer/bar area, due to the doors being kept open, probably for covid reasons. Only gripe was over interval drinks, we didn't get what we ordered and paid for.... Had to queue anyway at the interval, which is the whole point of ordering in the first place! Other than that incident, it was a fabulous night!!
P. W.
Went to the ballet last night, lovely theatre with good acoustics. Bit disappointed that there were a few people not wearing masks but, what can you do???
C. H.
Excellent show & atmosphere,
Was great to be back to normal!
L. M.
Went to the Rocky Horror Show here recently, all the staff were very friendly and helpful the seats were very clean as were the toilets you seemed to have a great view from wherever you was sat but leg room was a bit tight and the prices for snacks and drinks were laughable and no chance of sneaking your goodies in because the security did a very good job at checking all your bags, which in todays world made you at least feel safe.
P. T.
Absolutely brilliant place and the staff were extremely helpful.
G. L.
Went to watch Waitress. Excellent venue and really good show. Parked at St Stephens which is less than 10 minute walk from theatre.
R. P.
Still advise people to arrive 90 minutes before the show starts due to covid precautions but once bar seats are full then you have to stand. Wifi is not secure so can't connect. Show was brilliant though.
C. W.
Great venue and friendly staff. Loved the panto we went to see. Shame there was no ice cream due to a van break down.
C. L.
Saw Les Miserables there. Stunning and outstanding performance
M. G.
Absolutely brilliant night, food, atmosphere and show - Jersey Boys 😁
T. B.
Lovely helpful staff, very clean. Chairs a bit uncomfortable after a couple of hours
A. G.
An amazing venue newly modernised so access to seats and easing of queuing is much improved. Along side this, the theater has kept its traditional feel as the auditorium is still very classical. We went to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show which was a lot of fun! My only criticism of the evening was that we had to queue outside in the snow as they wouldn't let us in to the bar for a pre show drink 🤷 which we were really disappointed by. Then during the show interval the bar was under staffed meaning lots of people were late back for the second half or didn't get a drink. This aside, the theater is a great place to visit. We will go back frequently.
P. B.
Much better since the recent upgrade. The addition of the new entrance and new downstairs bar have really helped and it is now not so cramped once you are inside the venue. Parking can be found all around the venue.
H. B.
Wonderful performance of Nutcracker ballet preformed by Russian Ballet the Theatre is well spaced out very good wheelchair friendly a lift and toilets very nice seated area to eat and drink would recomend
Y. G.
Lovely theatre. Very comfy seats and sat in the stalls, Row C and loads of leg room.
D.
Went time see School of Rock and it was fantastic. Staff here are excellent. Lots of hand sanitiser dotted about! 10/10
M. M.
I went to see a few groups of dance classes which some of the young people I work with were part of, it was an enjoyable evening.
L. H.
They tried there best to make sure there covid protocols where followed & everyone tried there best to wear masks at all times the pantomime was very good in places but Granddaughter didn't like the Wicked Witch & her zombie dancers but as a whole it was great entertainment & its the 1st time i've been since it was refurbished with the pantomime not been on the year before but it looked excellent & everywhere very clean & had a great bar area for having a drink before & during the pantomime well worth a visit
M. J.
Lovely theater. Pricing for snacks and beverage are reasonable. Will certainly be back
G. G.
Great theatre, comfortable seating friendly staff. Good views of the stage.
M. S.
Great venue, clean, friendly staff, saw SIX on 6 April, brilliant.
V. M.
I love the theatre and this one is very modern and very clean as it has been re decorated recently! The shows are always amazing too!
a. h.
Brilliant went to see Mama Mia was amazing toilet needs to be cleaned more often though
S. R.
Very nice venue but a little hot inside bordering uncomfortable once the show got underway.
C. L. P.
Comfortable and attractive venue, friendly staff, good facilities, easy parking in Central location with good acoustic.
K. T.
Good productions and decent views in most seats but the seats themselves are some of the most uncomfortable I've encountered
K. G.
Went to see the Snow White panto. Seating was comfortable, toilets were clean and good disabled access. Staff were friendly too.
a. c.
First time we have been back since covid 19. We went to see the panto, we met up with family and we all had a great time. Fabulous thank you 😊
A. L.
Went to see Mamma Mia, excellent show, great to be back at the theatre after over 2years.
J. G.
Great venue, friendly staff and of course the production was very entertaining. Good to see national big acts playing at these theaters and hope many more will follow.
w. n.
Brilliant show from start to finish 😊 x
D. B.
Clean, comfy seats, bloody awful lights blinding you during parts of the show we watched, refreshments weren't too dear either
J. B.
Watched Chicago yesterday, afternoon show. Superb, really was. Venue was efficient getting people in, seated and out afterwards. spotlessly clean, lots of friendly staff (wearing masks BTW). Highly recommended.
K. H.
Decent theatre, some good productions
L. P.
Brilliant show only problem was how cold the theatre was like uncomfortable cold .
M. B.
Saw mamma mia here ,brilliant show ,and great place to watch the outside world in the bar x
P. H.
Fabulous show, Jersey Boys. Really enjoyed the whole experience
p. h.
Had a lovely time watching shrek with my daughter and grandson the show was amazing
S. P.
Great theatre,good bar,plenty of looks,friendly staff
L. D.
Friendly, helpful staff, fantastic shows
R. C.
Even though it’s called the Hull New Theatre it’s a lovely old theatre building and quite compact see even the cheapest seats get a good view of the stage. Knocked a star off as the seats are definitely in need of recushioning to prevent a numb bum.
D.
I came here to watch Derren Brown and it was lovely! There weren't many covid restrictions in place, every seat was full and the queuing for the bar was so packed but then theatres weren't built with space in mind. It didn't bother us as we are both vaccinated and I wore a face covering, although I think I was the only person wearing one including any of the staff. Like I say it didn't impact our visit negatively just in case anyone is worried about that! We didn't visit the toilets so can't comment on that, the theatre itself is a lot larger than I thought it would be.
C. K.
Visited 15th January to see Two pianos. Amazing show. Seen many musicals
M. K.
As always everytime we go we have a great time i strongly recommend this place to anyone i thought with covid restrictions in place it was gunna take the fun out of it but we still had a fantastic time snow white was hilarious 😆
L. P.
Went with friends to see ELO the experience last week great place no queing!!masks were worn by most !!Great night
M. C.
Matinee of the Nutcracker, not too busy and plenty of air changes in the auditorium. Nice place to go.
M. T.
Sat on the front row of the balcony, amazing view it showed as restricted view....but if your over 5ft should be no problem
J. K.
Wonderful performance.. But the seats were so uncomfortable it spoilt the experience..
c. a.
Excellent show tonight, everyone's talking about Jamie. Full house and a standing ovation. It's a shame that not many where wearing face masks especially with it been so full.
S. F.
Well designed. Parking both on the street adjacent as well as a car park few minutes walking distance.
L. S.
Great venue, good customer service, covid measures in place and great bar :-)
L. G.
Went to see bednobs and broomsticks it was excellent show definitely recommend it to go see
A. J.
Very lovely theatre - spacious and beautiful architecture
k. p.
The production -everyones talking about Jamie- was amazing ! But the bars in the theatre were terrible. Not enough staff and extremely slow in serving that many people in such a short time ! Should have had double the staff
p. m.
Fabulous afternoon at the pantomime with my 2 great grand children,, never disappointed with the entertainment and all the staff are very friendly
D. W.
I love the refurbished theatre, the performance of Hamlet was awesome especially with the Sign Language Interpreter (Becky Barry) as I am Deaf.
I would love to see more plays in the future and commend Hull New Theatre for finally putting on this signed performance after years of being restricted to pantos.
T. C.
Saw Jersey Boys and it was amazing. Stuff friendly and helpful
L. L.
Fantastic show very hospitable staff. Lovely evening.
C. S.
Lovely staff and brilliant venue.
C. B.
Great venue with a brilliant line up of shows and something for everybody.
R. H.
Good venue.. Great staff.. friendly bar team. Bit pricey on the wine for the quality and size though.
C. A.
Mama Mia was brilliant. Shame about.the queues at the bar and unable to pre order drinks for the interval
M. R.
Yet another wonderful experience at the theatre Great to have quality entertainment Thank you for our new theatre and the wonderful shows it can now attract Just been to see two shows in the last week both absolutely fantastic. I watched That'll be the Day which was amazing and then the musical Cher which was something very special
W. R.
Great evening fabulous atmosphere and really friendly staff.
J. S.
Visited here after the refurbishment and was pleasantly surprised how nice it looked, the bar area and lobby was busy but staff were on hand to help. This is local to me so try to
wait for shows etc to come here, there is always something to see.
J. H.
Very well organised and friendly staff great gig too.
T. G.
Any trip to Hull New Theatre is always a pleasure for me. With car parking so conveniently located, it makes for the perfect evening out. The choice of events is varied and offers everyone the chance of finding something to suit them: having most recently thoroughly enjoyed the dramatic An Inspector Calls, my next trip will be to take my 10-year-old grandson to Billionaire Boy. Literally, something for everyone and it's never too early to introduce the next generations to its delights. 09/04/22 Another highly entertaining evening at Six with my 15-year-old granddaughter. As I said, something for everyone. A little chaotic in the foyer as queues for merchandise, refreshments and entrance to the theatre collided. Not very Covid-friendly.
s. k.
Great place. Watched Elf the musical. Friendly staff and good food. Only gripe was not being to buy an elf hat and pen on card, was cash only !!
L. R.
Nice place , good productions , reasonable prices.
g. w.
Great night great music well worth the money
m.
Clean tidy once but the food/drinks and ice-cream are are redicelously over priced, to the point its totally unacceptable
S. C. (. M.
Pleasant venue, comfortable seats, helpful staff, great show
W. S.
Everybody was helpful and I felt safe. Also enjoyed the show
L. G.
Been twice recently comfy Seats and fantastic views of the stage
T. B.
It was great and very well run and I can't wait to go again
m. g.
Jersey boys was worth the money an amazing show..
S. G.
Absolutely fantastic panto this evening! So many jokes and lots of adult jokes! We laughed, danced, boo'd and cheered....exactly what a panto should be and more!
C. E.
Went along with a group of friends enjoyed the show school of rock however hardly any leg room for taller people. staff really picky on seats didn't seem to have anything better to do. it was an ok experience but venue and staff need to be changed.
S.
Jersey Boys - what can I say... PHENOMENOL. Beautiful theatre 🎥 ❤
M. R.
Absolutely amazing theatre. Staff were very reassuring during covid procedures. However their tickets are misleading for some small prints but definitely a great and fantastic experience. Definitely support your theatres during this time!
V. P.
Awesome stage and auditorium, but the seats could be much better! Really tight with zero leg room. Still, great shows can be seen at this location.
J. J.
No lift after all the alterations to the top floor
F. B.
Excellent show. All staff really helpful. Drinks and snacks reasonably priced.
D. S.
had a great night went to see cher fabulous.
T. P.
Great show, very helpful staff 👏
J. P.
Loved the show (Rob Brydon) and the New Theatre is great but it was my first time at the theatre since lockdown ended and I found it very frightening that a full theatre had no spacing and no one wore masks even when moving about. I won't be back for a while.
K. P.
Saw Le Miserable in a fantastic venue, can't wait to go back
K. W.
Always enjoy my visits here. Door staff are very approachable and friendly. Still very covid aware. Cannot fault the venue
j. h.
Lovely place only got 4 stars as it was so cold inside the theatre
A. Q.
Great night & atmosphere, staff excellent
l. n.
Great theatre, friendly staff, fantastic production of The Nutcracker ballet...absolutely mesmerising! ❤
L. P.
'Magic goes wrong' light hearted slap stick humoured show with some good illusions. Really funny
Aton & Erin huge disappointment more like an old fashioned variety show with singers. Orchestra was brilliant. Aton sang a duet ! First half was very good watching them dance. 2nd half when they were answering the audiences questions was so boring. We was expecting to see them dance more
p. r.
A really lovely theatre tucked away in a quite corner of the world!
S. L.
Great night out, i like weeknight shows especially as it breaks the week up. Not to expensive either so it all good
S. C.
First time I ve been in years and loved the panto. Very accessible as a wheelchair user and staff was brilliant
P. T.
Great place for a good night we watched mama mia fantastic 😀
P. B.
A Great Experience 👍
We watched 'Chicago' which was really good.
The facilities are very good as well.
We will definitely go again.
A. W.
Went to see Cher show . Wadma great night
G. G. B.
A great theatre, with a full-size stage to accomodate West End productions. Very comfortable, & friendly place. Hull is very lucky to have this place of entertainment & culture.
E. N.
Brilliant theatre. Great ambience and very comfortable seats.
T. R.
Great view from any seat. Very modern and clean having being done up last year. Only downside is that the food is very overpriced so would recommend eating elsewhere.
A. H.
Wonderful experience.very well organised, friendly and efficient staff and mamma Mia was amazing.😃
m. m.
1st ever visit amazing venue and show.
K. W.
Went to see Six, one epic musical.
Seperate entrance and exit.
K. C.
Excellent afternoon out watching local people performing...
New theatre staff brilliant...relocated our seats for us with no problems so we didn't feel so claustrophobic ..thank you. X
C. P.
Fabulous visit to see Mamma Mia after a two year wait with covid.
W. C.
I'm going to the Derren Brown show here in a couple of days and really cannot wait to go. I was quite concerned about going at first with the pandemic still causing misery, but the staff presenting the video of their safety measures that are in place are very reassuring.
H. W.
Fabulous show - everybody's talking about Jamie but chaos at the interval as you had to use cash for drinks and ice creams
J. G.
Haven't been here since the renovation and it looks lovely. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Service is now all done at the table and brought to you (due to Covid).
Seats were corderned off so that nobody was very close together which was nice. Felt clean, safe and well managed.
M. B.
Tastefully updated and an amazing performance of SIX The Musical
K. L.
Went to see Chicago and it was 5 🌟 such an amazing performance by everyone involved, the outfits was unreal and the atmosphere was fantastic. Highly recommended, go and see CHICAGO 👌🏻👏🏻😬
m. r.
Nice place just needs better seating (new) numb bum by half time
M. F.
Fantastic show Cher brilliant costumes well worth going to see x
m. s.
Saw school of rock. Felt Covid safe mainly. Not many mask wearers. Great show and venue, free parking down street on evening.
T. S.
Fabulous evening, The Addams family ,woz absolutely brilliant
A. S.
Lovely staff on the door and throughout. Clean theatre
D. G.
A proper theatre in the old tradition, not some multi avent hall.
S. H.
Beautiful building. Sadly not enough leg room when seated if you're over 5 foot!!!
M. E.
Excellent afternoon at the panto. Great to be back in the theatre and felt very safe.
N. W.
Reasonable prices for food and drink, which was a pleasant surprise.
J.
We wet to see Chicago. We loved the production. Friendly staff at the bar and guiding guests to their seats. Recommended
G. S.
Exceptionally great experience at theatre today...mamma Mia...brilliant performance
J.
A good theatre, all seats have a clear view of the stage. We'll maintained and modernised. Good variety of performances.
J. F.
Absolutely amazing. Had a fantastic time seeing "Peter Pan". Amazing cast creations, music, lighting and most of all very comfortable seating.
S. H.
We recently visited to watch Iain Sterling's stand up show, and was incredibly impressed with how the whole team made everyone feel safe. Just a shame that almost everyone wasn't wearing a face mask.
G. B.
Went to see the Rocky Horror show, very nice theatre and drinks were reasonably priced and big car park very close by
C. W.
Lots of really nice songs and colour full outfits really good
S. M.
Excellent and very funny production of Snow White, already booked for next year 👍😁
R. A.
Amazing show just very uncomfortable seating for the taller people.
M. C.
Always a magical experience.
Some wonderful shows.
Well run venue.
R. C.
Excellent Show, seating needs updating
L. L.
We really enjoy the theatre
A. P.
Good seats even though towards the back
D. B.
Went to see Lord of the dance. Fantastic!!!
S. S.
Great show only seating was problem too squashed together no leg room for disabled people had someone's elbow in my side all through show
C. P.
Brilliant theatre. Friendly staff. Quality productions. Great sound system. £3 for an ice cream! Is even better after the refurbishment.
c. w.
Fantastic performance all the family had a great time
Deffo recommend to any1
B. B.
Came to see derren brown who was mesmerising and brilliant. Would definitely go again, the atmosphere is amazing it's just the seats that let it down, slightly uncomfortable
S. S.
Excellent. Safe. Good staff. Easy parking
J. B.
Brilliant production and loved the old hits
J. N.
Chicago is an amazing show and this cast is probably the best I've seen including on Broadway.
P. B.
A brilliant night, well organised keeping the chaos to minimum before the show and during the interval resulting in us having a great night. Looking forward to returning
K. P.
Carmen was very good the bar was well organised
g. D.
Went to see Cinderella, brilliant production for all ages. Fantastic night, staff lovely, great atmosphere. Recommend going
W. L.
Watched Dirty Dancing the musical here amazing performance from start to finish. Would recommend!
K. S.
Not been before, lovely place, bar and snack areas, seating comfortable and leg room which is a bonus as am tall, staff very pleasant and helpful
I. M.
Very clean and very nice building with great seating!
S. J.
Great place, great panto. Disappointed that a lot of people didn't wear masks 😕
J. D.
The theatre has had a major refurbishment since I was last there and looks amazing. There are more bar areas, beautiful toilets and more of them. Everywhere was lovely and the staff were all friendly and helpful. I still think they should have a cloakroom though. It was very uncomfortable to sit with my wet coat on my lap all night.
J. A.
A good overall experience, although all the bars and cafés were quite busy with very few spare seats.
J. M.
Brilliant performance. Coean building. Cov8d satefy takin into care
E. H.
Great showing of the Rocky horror picture show, staff quick to check tickets and let people through, seating was comfortable and we had plenty of leg room, I was on the end of the isle so had plenty of room to get up and dance the time warp. Others seemed to have plenty of room too. Toilets seemed clean even with a packed theatre. The show itself was awesome and will definitely go again the next time it's here.
W. D. (. A. S.
Lovely modern theatre, great staff, good availability of drinks (house Cab Sauv was actually surprisingly good!) and snacks. We watched the ballet (Cinderella) which was outstanding, especially the prop work which was the best I'd seen! We got "restricted view" seats which were hardly restricted at all for around £10 I think which was an absolute bargain for the quality of performance - comfy seats too! Overall a great evening for very little money!
g. c.
Great Show Jersey Boys - Brilliant
E. W.
It is a long time since I last visited, it has come along in leaps and bounds, Hull should be very proud of such a lovely theatre.
D. D.
We watched the Nutcracker last night! Top class production...excellent performers, ballet and supporting orchestra... The stage sets and costumes were the best I've seen to date.
The theatre has several bars where one can meet before the show..and the circle bar has a stylish enclosed balcony overlooking a park...which I wasn't able to sit in but hope to oneday soon! I also enjoyed the clean and spacious restroom! A top class night out!
J. D.
Lovely little Theatre.
E. L.
A very nice amount of leg room at the seats. I'm 5'4" so don't usually have an issue with leg room, but this theatre has significantly more leg room than other theatres I've been too. Decent amount of toilets and multiple bars and lounges. Nice temperature throughout the Theatre as well.
L. H.
The new entrance, bar and snacks facility has improved the arrival experience. The theater is clean, with comfortable seats and not a bad view in the place due to its steep sloping floor and roof design. The sound system provides a warm rich atmosphere. Parking close to the theater is on street and free after six there is a large pay for car park within 800 meters Eating before theater options close to the theater are limited so look further afield if you wish to do this.
D. B.
Excellent theatre, refurbishment has expanded the foyer area beautifully.
B. P.
So great to back in theatre again ! A great place , lovely staff, all very professuonal, would not hesitate to go to another shoe here again and again
K.
Great Show and lights but the sound system let down the singers.
C. F.
Went to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show here. Well organised venue, great performance.
D. F.
Refurbished in 2017. Stage area expanded from how it was previously, resulting in a great range of shows being put on that would not have visited Hull prior to the improvements. Retains its friendly atmosphere and has two nice bars. Only issue I can think of is that some of the seats might be a little cramped for a taller person. Thoroughly enjoy going there.
S. R.
Jersey boys excellent 10 out of 10.😁😁😁
C. G.
Beautiful big theatre
Great friendly staff
Good leg room
P. D.
Very nice place to visit staff very helpful would recommend.
N. W.
A very nice place after the refurb it has had. Lots of hand sanitisers available and other Covid avoidance measures in place.
L. G.
Theatre itself is great. Here to see Derren Brown who is positively mind blowing!
H. H.
Love it, went to see Dirty Dancing and it was so good to be back in the theatre.
B. B.
Came to see derren brown who was mesmerising and brilliant. Would definitely go again, the atmosphere is amazing it's just the seats that let it down, slightly uncomfortable
M. K.
Brilliant show. So funny.
k. p.
The production -everyones talking about Jamie- was amazing ! But the bars in the theatre were terrible. Not enough staff and extremely slow in serving that many people in such a short time ! Should have had double the staff
C. F.
Love it. Feels like a small theatre, but has everything you need and more. Great staff.
C. M.
Chicago was amazing... The venue is fantastic.... 🎷🎶👏
D.
I came here to watch Derren Brown and it was lovely! There weren't many covid restrictions in place, every seat was full and the queuing for the bar was so packed but then theatres weren't built with space in mind. It didn't bother us as we …
L.
Great panto, and staff very nice
M. D.
A lovely venue, with a gorgeous interior and some fantastic shows throughout the year. Theatre staff are friendly and helpful.
Though there are two bars here, they do get really busy during the interval; it is a REALLY good idea to pre-order your interval drinks. That way they will be ready when you come out.
Hull New Theatre is a great way to experience the best of this City of Culture.
Helpful review? Hit that like button!
J. H.
Sound poor upstairs. So loud it was ringing and vibrating. All of our party said the same. Reasonable panto but poor vocals from princess. Clearly not up to the job. Enjoyed the night but have seen better in Hull. £120+ for 4 people + £10 for 4 ice creams not a cheap night out and was a bit disappointing.
l. e.
Excellent venue and great seating layout, not too squashed and good view of the stage.
L. M.
Easy to find. The staff were very helpful when we needed them. The show of Aladdin was amazing. Sound quality was really good. We went on a 'relaxed performance' that was suited especially for disabled kids, so it's only to be expected that there's lots of noise and movement from the audience. What shocked me was the amount of parents begging their kids to stop running up and down the aisles but we're happy to feed them sugary snacks all night. I could see staff trying to intervene but in the end there were too many kids bouncing off the walls during the second part which drowned out the play. Shame really as I felt these irresponsible hull parents ruined it.
P. G.
I took my wife there as part of her 60th birthday, we saw The King and I and what a fantastic production it's not to be missed. We found the theatre quite easily and parking was in a big semi circle in front of the theatre, once inside the bags were searched which was very comforting we found our seats easily which were very comfortable and spacious, the staff were very friendly and it was a lovely time from start to finish. If you are disabled you don't pay for parking as long as you show your badges time is unlimited.
A. H.
Really good theatre, we try to go at least 3-4 times a year.
M. S.
We will rock you was absolutely brilliant. Found the seating a bit difficult as no centre aisle.
The staff were very helpful and kind. And definitely looking forward to my next visit.
A. G.
2 pianos excellent local artists terrific performance...
V. S.
Panto 2021 was brilliant. Theatre was lovely and clean.
H. D.
Beautifully refurbished with spacious bar, well staffed offering reasonably priced refreshments. Good toilet facilities always clean. Seating comfortable, quality of lighting, stage scenery and sound very good. Have seen some wonderful performances here recently including Let it Be and Dracula. Will be returning soon
M. A.
We went with friends to see the Peter Pan pantomime just before Christmas and it was a great experience. The show was really good and the theatre is beautiful. I had not been to this theatre before the renovation, so can't comment on how it compares to the previous look.
M. S.
Staff were polite and plenty of sanitised stations and was within covid restrictions shown to our seats easy parking.
A.
The work on the Theatre has really improved it whilst keeping the art deco feeling. Not sure the stage is any bigger or the sound improved. Shame about people who insist on filming shows on mobiles instead of actually watching the live action.
P. S.
Really nice venue, well kept and spacious still when crowded. Staff helpful and friendly
K. J.
Fantastic evening, my little boy lived every moment of it!!!
D. J.
Great place, great views of the stage
A. Q.
Drinks reasonably priced, food nice and reasonably priced, the show was fantastic. Staff polite. Only reason not 5 stars is because it doesn't have parking although it's not a deal breaker as plenty of parking a couple of minutes walk away.
M. P.
Fantastic! Went to see Dirty Dancing on Monday night ,what a night. Staff where great in fact everything was spot on.
L. R.
Went to see Shrek..absolutely amazing
s. s.
Little cramped for legroom but a pretty venue. Seen a few shows here now
P. H.
Great to see the old girl with front face lift and an enlarged back stage. Hull New Theatre looked really good. Probably the very first theatre I was ever taken to. Good to see up graded facilities, but a very poor selection of beers, but the Old English Gentleman pub is very close. Hopefully the New Theatre will now be able to accommodate the big West End shows for the first time. A good experience.
N. W.
A very nice place after the refurb it has had. Lots of hand sanitisers available and other Covid avoidance measures in place.
T. W.
Myself and my sister attended tonight's performance of The Bodyguard. All I can say is WOW, what a show, fantastic from start to finish. Both myself and my sister said it's the best show we've ever seen. Fab venue too with friendly helpful staff.
J. N.
Absolutely loved Jersey Boys
C. M.
Went to see Chicago last night...
Amazing absolutely loved it, blooming fantastic.
A. L.
Brilliant show I loved it
J. J.
Was brilliant went to see dirty dancing, bar prices wer gud, toilets clean, in all a great pkace
E. S.
What a great night seen many pantomime ,peter pan was the best well done to all the cast and back stage members and many more involved. What a great show from start to finish. I would recommend you go and see it for your self well done to you allcast and crew merry Xmas to you and your family .Can't wait for 2018 booking .
J. K.
Went to see Mama Mia & it was absolutely superb. Better than going to London! The theatre facilities are good. ..can be a bit disorganised queuing for drinks & I think that could be improved. You just have to be super patient & be happy with plastic cups. Unfortunately, there is a slight smell of drains in parts of the theatre, which is a little unpleasant...just be prepared... major works will be needed to address situ! Those daft comments aside, the theatre overall is good and the seating arrangements are set out well. Persons with disabilities are looked after & there are excellent facilities to accommodate them. Staff are helpful.
K. S.
Lovely theatre, easy parking & fantastic show!
H. R.
Nice big new bar area entrance to the left of the theatre. Then I don't really see what else has changed to be honest. We still really enjoyed ourselves and see the old entrance doors where only used for exit. But that area looks old still. I was a little bit disappointed that we couldn't tell what else might have been changed during the refurb. We saw the pantomime on Christmas eve and give that 10/10. The 3D part being amazing! Well done to all the staff around on that day (matinee performance)
S. S.
Excellent food and great staff
h. b.
Great revamp, the whole building looks fantastic. I do however dread coming to any show here. The auditorium is so hot and its extremely uncomfortable, it also wouldn't hurt to fit some drinks holders too!
J. H.
Me and my husband were privileged to see the jersey boys tonight at the hull new theatre. It was the most fabulous show I have ever seen. Wonderful acting and singing, brilliant and highly recommended.
B. C.
My fave place to go 😀 x
T. H.
The show and the refurbished sound and lighting arangments are fantastic. The new entrance lobby and the refurbished reception are very good. The new seating plan does concern me because they have removed the side isles and the removed the central isle in the first few rows making it very difficult for people to move around the autorum. Moving around during the interval was difficult as was leaving after the show, it concerns me how long it take to evacuate the autorum in an emergency.
G. O.
Layout not thought out very well , going in New doors (only ones open ) up new steps to old area very congested as people queuing to get in to auditorium and at new sweet bar . I'm not an architect but I'm sure the old building could have been incorporated with new better . However that theatre, seating and stage is excellent , seats very comfy
S. B.
Visit to New Theatre to view a performance of Hedda Garbler, after a major refurbishment. Place seems bigger with more seats.
A. L.
Amazing performance this afternoon for we will rock you. All the cast were just wow! Only reason i didnt guve 5 stars was the new kayout was very confusing, people not knowing where to go. People waiting st the bar while people trying to get in, not very organised. Show was fantastic!
D. M. B.
Great theatre and show , unfortunately , some people near us had no respect for others and where irritating throughout the performance.
L. P.
Absolutely amazing show tonight. Would definitely recommend going to see Peter Pan!!
C. B.
Accessibility can be an issue for wheelchair users but the staff are on hand to help in that event. The theatre has just had an overhaul improving a lot of the facilities, the only holdover from what I can tell are the seats in the front 3 or so rows, while noticeable, isn't detrimental
L. C.
We went to watch billionaire boy today. The show was fantastic! The 1 thing that let it down was my child's sealed fruit shoot being taken off him at the entrance Only to see fruit shoots being sold at the theatres shop at an extortionate price!!
You pay enough to watch the show to then be forced to buy their drinks at their ridiculous prices! Next time I will be taking In sealed bottles of water as that's apparently allowed. More information about this needs to be readily available on the website!
E. B.
Amazing place definitely recommend it for anyone any age
C. S.
Merlin was superb. Well done to all the dancers and musicians. Brilliant.
A. F.
Went to see Jersey boys here and it was fantastic. Theatre was nice lots of leg room and comfy seats. It has plenty to choose from to eat and drink. Parking free after 6pm around the theatre..
M. Y.
Clean, well presented. Excellent seats and views of stage. Wonderful performance of The King and I. Coffee & tea tasted good and reasonable price.
L. N.
First visit since refurbished.
Panto was brilliant. My partner has had his first experience of a professional panto and "enjoyed the silly fun".
Only comment is make about new lay out. Getting in and out via entrance near the bar and toilets was congested. Would have helped with those public areas been a little wider.
Others wise a tasteful modernization whilst been sensitive to the existing theatre.
R. H.
Great show, kids loved panto.
A. J.
I visited last night 26/02/18 to see Jersey Boys. We got some food from there beforehand and it was so nice! There not many places that do burgers that aren't messy to eat. The seats in the theatre itself are so much better than they used to be, they used to be hard and narrow to sit in because they were so old but now they are spacious and incredibly comfortable.
M. H.
Lovely ballet performed. Thought we wouldn't have a good view, but was great.
j. h.
Fantastic place for many events
K. T.
Had a visit recently ,very helpful staff ,brilliant show ,rocky horror ,loved ut
a. v. d. t.
I wasn't at the theatre I was picking my grandson up from Ron Dearing but HNT is great and I hope it is up and running soon with plenty of patrons to keep it financially viable.
D. H.
Nice Theatre which is recently renovated. A strong performance of Cabaret seen here with an excellent cast of talented actors including John Partridge as Emcee. Dark ending had the audience spellbound.
C. I.
Wonderful production of The Nutcracker by Northern ballet. Great to be able to book a table in the restaurant for a pre theatre meal. The revamp is a boon for those with mobility problems as the lift takes you down to the lower ground floor so no longer the climb up or down the steep steps at the front
D. C.
Saw a great show this afternoon The King and I it was amazing and although we had seats on the left hand side facing the stage we could still see the show well Staff were efficient so we didn't have to queue long for anything Had a really good afternoon.
H. H.
Love it, went to see Dirty Dancing and it was so good to be back in the theatre.
J. C.
Hull New Theatre what have you done? Cramming everyone through the door to the bar and not taking advantage of what is an absolutely stunning front entrance. Over the years of coming to shows and even being in one in my youth, there is something special about climbing the stair and endearing through the grand entrance. It feels like a cinema now being funnelled through a side door past people having a drink in the bar. You need to revert it back. Despite this change, the Aladin 2019 show was amazing and the staff were fantastic and helpful. They don't get the credit that they deserve. They are as important as the performers.
G.
Looks great after it's refurb. Stage looks bigger too. Enjoyed "Benidorm," even though I have not seen the TV series. "Dracula" was also enjoyable, the special effects were great. This new seasons shows are a lot better than the last few years which seemed to be nothing but musicals. I like plays better.
B. C.
The theatre is getting some really good shows and We Will Rock You was excellent. However the seats are so uncomfortable, particularly the front stalls. All the money spent to refurbish the theatre...pity the seats were not part of that
Otherwise a lovely building
P. T.
An excellent theatre, the money they have spent on the refurbishment has certainly not gone to waste.
I was sat front row of the circle, had an excellent view, and even for someone like me who is definitely on the larger side there was plenty of legroom.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful and I really couldn't fault them.
A. F.
Jersey Boys - fantastic - volume needs turning up though - struggled to hear every word - and the new seating is poorly planned - we were on the end which was OK but seating was from one side of the theatre to the other without anotger access isle - so my advice is go fur seats at each end or further back!
Lovely experience non the less - highly recommend anyone to book a show!
w.
I visited The Hull New Theatre just before Christmas (2014) to see Aladdin and what an amazing laugh a minute show. I did not know what to expect when visiting, because the last time I visited the Theatre was with school when I was young, and it was as funny then as it is now.
The Theatre is still looking as good now as it did then... even though its always been called "Hull *New* Theatre"..?
Lovely staff, lovely service, lovely show... and clean!
We are planning now to go every year... Yes it can be seen as expensive, but when you compare it to a cinema movie that's not got any "Character" to it, it's worth paying that little bit more. You know the old saying.... You get what you pay for and it's never been so true in this example.
I recommend coming a little bit earlier, as next time we would park in "Prospect Shopping Centre" car park and walk over instead of the council pay and display as we did, that way no worries about the show going over your time, as the shopping centre is pay for length of stay when you exit.
Hope this helps people's decision's in visiting Hull New Theatre...
It won me over... simple. :)
Rich.
K. W.
Excellent performance of Jersey Boys
E. B.
It's such a good theatre... back in 2017 I experienced my first professional show on that stage, it was the best moment in my life especially as I am currently wanting to do musical theatre as a job...
A.
Great venue. Clean spacious and well organised.
L. B.
Love this place 🥰 however hate the way they look in your bag to prevent you taking your own snacks
l. n.
Went to see Two Pianos which was fantastic by two local lads trio backing group a singer and guest appearance of Jonny Pat another local legend. Comfortable seats and a good view.
D. M.
The theatre has had a major face lift and a new cafe restaurant to the front this building has only one tiny lift and way to little access for disabled people I couldn't find a seat and ended up having to sit on the stairs to drink it as the seating in the bar is mainly high bar stools no good at all to someone like myself no seats left in the cafe and no seating in any hallways very disappointing after the money spent no one offered me a seat staff or otherwise it was a very disappointing place indeed
L. J.
Was at New Theatre last week, you have to have your bags checked for security which does not take long, the bar area is not very large but you are not waiting to be served and staff very friendly. The theatre is very well layed out, good vues from all seats with plenty of leg room, so Swan Lake which was fabulous.
S. N.
Very friendly and helpful staff easy access and enjoyable programme will certainly go again
C. E.
Great venue and some fantastic shows. Only downside is that during the revamp they got rid of the centre aisle in favour of more seats. However, still a lovely theatre.
S.
Watched "Dinosaur World Live". The theatre was nice and clean and seats very comfortable with more leg room than other theatres. The drinks and snacks were what you would expect, more than they should be!
M. R.
We went to see Mama Mia which was a great show. Since the theatre was re-vamped I do have some issues with the layout. Downstairs the front rows are in one long row, I would think this could be a fire hazard, also you now enter via the bar on the ground floor, this causes a considerable back up of people as one is ushered through to where the old entrance was to gain access to the Circle and Upper Circle which is where I prefer to sit. You can exit from this area so I don't know why one can't gain access too, especially if you are on the aforesaid seats on the ground floor...Unless you are familiar with the layout you could find yourself at the wrong end! Therefore, everyone will have to stand up to let you access - or you will have to go back and around to the side you want to be at. We sit in the dress circle and sometimes the air conditioning can be a bit chilly!
M. K.
Brilliant show. So funny.
L. R.
Didn't like were we were seated tonight row x29 and 30 as there were wheel chairs in front of us and it was very uncomfortable get comfy, would seat in other rows, but the show itself was fantastic
S. M.
Only marked it down because only 10 people were wearing masks to prevent covid, in the whole auditorium!!!!
S. R.
The Calender Girls musical is fantastic! Worth a visit to watch it. Just wish there where some little chairs in the foyer to sit down while waiting to get into see the show.
D. M.
Great theatre and nice new bar added. Photo is the setting for ‘The Kings of Hull’
L. b. M.
Good theatre. But don't like the sinks in the toilet , they probably thought they were stylish, but what you need is usable. Watch out if you don't want to come out with water down your front.
M. T.
Love how they have reformed the seats to slightly sloped so you should always be able to see the stage no matter where you are HOWEVER if you suffer from hot flushes I reccomened you only buying seats near the Isle because good lord they love to keep there heating on and there air con off and you will pass out... Be sure to take a fan, an empty bottle so u can fill it up when your there otherwise pay the price of 2-3quid for a piddle luke warm bottle and also a flannel or hankie u can run under the tap and pay yourself with! Staff can be less then helpful but the performances tend to be pretty blooming marvellous! We went to see kinky boots last year and what a show! 👠 ♥
L. G.
Theatre itself is great. Here to see Derren Brown who is positively mind blowing!
J. B.
The air conditioning was so loud it spoilt the performance today and it made it very cold. So much so we needed to put our coats on! Also in the bistro it would have been better to have proper cups and not paper cups for a cup of tea. The Carol King show was good.
H. M.
Came to see Rocky Horror which was amazing. Getting inside was not to bad, I already knew about bot being able to take in your own food/drinks. The wait for the bar and the merchandise was long though. They could have been slightly more organised at the merch set up.
C. x.
my experience at hull new theatre was very comfortable, members of staff where very friendly and the seating in the theatre made my experience very enjoyable. however the layout of the building is not very functional and could be improved. an overall positive experience.
P. O.
School of Rock fantastic. HNT brilliant venue, felt very comfortable and safe, sanitizers everywhere, excellent
u.
The show (Made in Dagenham) was fantastic, however there were several issues with microphones so a lot of dialogue couldn't be heard by the audience - well done to the actors though, they stayed professional and didn't let it affect their performance, I can only imagine how frustrating it must have been for them. The only other negative thing I can say about HNT is the seating is uncomfortable, tightly packed to where you feel a little claustrophobic, and poorly laid out so you have to lean side to side to see past the person in front of you - I'm paying to watch a show, not to admire the back of someone's head! Other than that though it was an all round good experience.

Love the refurbishment and love the shows at the moment lots to see although have a look at prices and what ever the price is add 1.50 on top per ticket and that applies weather booking at the booking office or on line and also checker the carer status as the concessions on tickets may not apply anymore

Absolutely amazing show kinky boots. Go see before it goes or you will regret it. Hull New theater has had a beautiful revamp since I was there last. Its just gorgeous

Nice to be back at the theatre after such a long time due to the covid virus

I'm very impressed. The new extension part of the theatre is fantastic. Not sure though if there are notices on the old entrance doors that say they are now only for exit as quite a few patrons tried to get in that way.

the theatre itself was great, comfortable seats and plenty of room. The restaurant however is a different story, my advise, don't bother. Restaurant is a loose term the only thing I fancied on the menu was a burger and that came out stone cold. The young girl on the counter seemed to be doing everything herself and fair enough they didn't charge us for it but my husband had eaten before mine came back. I can't figure out how it makes any money? only three dinners and so many empty tables? they turned two couples away who asked if they could get food because they hadn't pre booked???

Theatre beautiful, but the cost of drinks etc extortionate. Hull city council need to evaluate their parking around the theatre. As no production only lasts 2 hrs x ridiculous

Great upgrade. Comfy seats, very few/no blind spots

Hull New Theatre recently refurbished and stage made made larger for bigger productions
Was impressed with the theatre. Entrance is now at the bar just to the side ideal for disabled and the toilets more accessable. Inside looks nice and clean. Went for ' The play that went wrong' brilliant production from start to finish would recommend if you like a farce with a twist. Get there early or you miss the pre performance before the curtain goes up.

First of all when was arrived was greeted by a lady who said you can't take drinks in. Which was fair enough but went 4 months ago and it wasn't a problem to be told that they have changed the rules 3 months ago. We had a bag of sweets to be then stopped by a bag search and once again was told we can't bring them in we said it a new bag so just won't eat them. we also have parked 20 min walk from here so would miss part of the show. To be told you should have checked the terms and conditions. After we got rid for our stuff. They started letting other people in with drinks. I think everyone forgot to check the terms and conditions so must have gave up. The show was was amazing and the bar staff was nice. Just put a downer on the night was we travelled two hours to get to the show.

Saw the Mamma Mia performance today, absolutely amazing. However, some seats seem cramped to how they were before the refit and also there were massive queues on arrival and it was very cramped and confusing on arrival in the new entrance space

Good location for parking. Lovely well kept Theatre. Toilet facilities excellent. Nice bar area. We had great seats and the show spot on. Enjoyable evening.

The main receiving theatre in Hull, it has quirky history, and can boast of a diverse legacy: Charles Dickens and Laurel and Hardy performed here. It was transformed in 2017, during the city of Culture and is now state of the art. It's still a little utilitarian, though and it seems to lack a bit of confidence. That's a pity. It has huge potential and could become a regional cultural powerhouse with the a little dose of hope and inspiration.

The shows ive seen here have been spectacular however the seating is very cramped if your above 5'3. Dont expect any leg room or comfort, however the shows and atmosphere is phenomenal

Great show at the Hull New theatre I didn't see all of the refurbishment so didn't feel could give it 5 stars but overall what I did see was very good clean toilets helpful staff an a great production saw the Peter Pan panto.

Excellent show ruined by drunken women. Staff came to them on and off all night yet waited till 5 minutes before end of show before taking them out . Spoilt the show for so many people . Why did you let them carry on for so long.

Hull New Theatres prices have increased greatly since the renovation. This now has made the theatre to pricy for a lot of local residents although I can understand the price of some events.
One complaint o have until recently you were able to take in your own sweets and drinks this is not the case any longer. You would think if you were having to buy from the theatre they would at least have enough people serving customers. The ques are to large to get served, spoils a special night out.

The Bodyguard was amazing!! Alexandra Burke and cast were fantastic........however, don't book seats on the front row if your over 5ft!!!.......to say I was snug was an understatement!!😂

A pleasant theatre, with good views of the stage from almost every seat. However the removal of a centre aisle in the front stalls and side aisles in the rear stalls, since the refurbishment, makes access and egress unecessarily difficult; I worry about what would happen if an emergency occurred.

Beautiful theatre, great friendly staff

We will rock you nothing will come close to this updated musical in this town ever, if you can't get tickets this year you must go see this show whenever or wherever you can stunning, first class, amazing stage effects, amazing professional cast nuff said

saw "The band" musical absolutly amazing fantastic sound and comfortable viewing

They've done a good job with the renovations. They need to get a more efficient bar/drinks service. You have to wait far too long in the ques its hardly worth trying. Overall still a great experience though

Went to watch Menopause The Musical. Great funny show, but seats so close together with no leg room in front. Not very comfy at all. Expect a numb bum.

Loving the layout since the refit. Stage so much more visible. I always find theatre seats uncomfortable, and these are no different. Seen classic plays, comic plays, ballet and light opera. All superb. The loss of one star is for the intrusive sound of the air conditioning. Such a shame.

Fabulous... lovely old building with some wonderful shows and entertainment

I enjoyed the show. I found staff were friendly and the process of going in and out was well organised
I didn't like the seating though
I had back pain on leaving because of the seat

The 'king and I' was fab. The singing was outstanding and the costumes were beautiful. We had a drink before which we could have taken into the auditorium if we had wanted to.

Enjoyed the Jersey Boys here, good view, great sound, brilliant show. The refurbished theatre makes it more accessible to the less able, even providing written dialogue. Well worth a visit
C. H.
Lovely theatre, you get a good view from every angle doesn't matter where you sit the staff are nice and friendly too, I've been a few times now and have a few more booked I'd recommend going
J. H.
Great theatre. Plenty of leg room. In the circle, the incline between each row is enough to make it easy to see the stage without heads getting in the way!
M. B.
First visit since the refurbishment and I am impressed. Comfortable seating and good basic food offering. Good views of the stage and sound was excellent
V. S.
Beautiful theatre, friendly helpful staff. Fantastic performance of Bing. I've knocked a star off for the over priced merchandise and the £4 helium balloons at the exit, so kids thought they automatically got one.

A great night out seeing, "An Inspector Calls". An imaginative (Dali meets Gilliam) set, solid cast, and a good venue to see theatre. Friendly and efficient staff.
