I often played here as a child in the mid 70s when we lived on the coal pit estate in Kippax. It hasn't changed much. Great views and lots of meadow wildlife to explore. The walks are quite short but vary considerably in terrain. Be aware that there is no area specific parking and no refreshments/toilet facilities at all. So if you intend to visit then plan ahead and research it. I would say children up to around 12 would enjoy it but not much here for teens unless they love nature and rambling.

Great place to walk and head off in many directions via the lines way and good for biking and running. Plenty of parking at swimming baths.

It was our first time up here with our dogs and it turned out a lovely short walk from the sports centre. Lovely views of the countryside and will definitely be back.

Proper isolated nature reserve with woodland as well as meadow paths and space to explore. If raining can be extremely muddy, but that only adds to the fun.

I have not been, but my mum, who died in 1980, grew up in Kippax (Marchmont Crescent) in the mid 1910s. She always talked with great pleasure about Billy Wood, she and her siblings were always playing there. Halcyon days for her. I was amazed to see it still there, and not now a housing estate, and will definitely visit. I wish we'd had the web then, she would have loved this, and the photos. I've given it 5* in her memory.

Beautiful walk, not worth a drive over but if your local it's perfect. Dog loves it. Nature loves it.

Glow worms live here do I really need to say more, In July and August as the sun sets get your kids up to the top field and scan the long grass near the edge of the wood and be prepared for your kids to be fascinated by the residents To be honest we havent ventured much further only ever going at night but it looks like a nice spot for dog walkers too
