Reviews of Harewood House Trust

Great place to visit with or without kids. The house is magnificant. Would recommend buying a guide for £5. Staff are extremely helpful. Food in terrace restaurant is very good. Walk around lake is lovely.
Note they give discounts to English heritage and Blue card holders.

We have a membership so go fairly frequently, this is a beautiful place and we really enjoy taking the kids here for a walk and something to eat.
The staff are always very nice, and whilst - particularly in the cafe in the main house - we'd like some more vegetarian options, we do like to sit down and relax in the comfortable surroundings and think of the opulence of life for the rich here in former times.
D. S.
Although we visited as part of the food festival, this is still one of my favourite places to spend time with the family and mooch around the gardens. Would love to see the glasshouses restored one day!
I. K.
Such a great place for fun activities. In the summer I attended the Great British Food Festival and that was the perfect venue and gained us entry into the house as well. Then their Magical Christmas Nights was beautiful as well! The only thing I’d change about the magical Christmas nights is perhaps having the traders and the food stay open longer and allow people to explore the inside of the house and traders at the same time so that the queue doesn’t get too long going into the house. Loved the musicians and the brilliantly themed rooms though!

A beauteously prodigious property conveniently located within easy driving distance from York, Leeds, and the surrounding area. The property is dynamic and offers delicious food at several locations, much of it homemade and better than what one will find at other properties. There are also several walking options on the grounds, including a proper walk which would require wellies. The Christmas decor was fantastic and a must-see for locals who have visited before. It must be said however, the largest downside to this visit are two statues, particularly one of large marble upon entrance. I have never in my life seen an uglier, or more offensive statue. And right in front of a Christmas tree. Twice during our visit we had to divert the eyes of our girls who are under 10 years old, once at entry and again in the garden section. I strongly believe the property's trust should rethink the importance of two previous eccentric owners' artistic tastes (leaving a questionable impression), over posterity and civility. If you have young girls in your group, prepare to avert their eyes.

Great place to visit if you are into nature and exhibition! Perfect for hiking, it is such a massive place. The only down side is the entry ticket is a bit pricy and weather would have been nicer if it was sunny. Defo will come back with friends in summer
A. F.
Excellent farm area with a nice stroll through the bird sanctuary. The hymallian gardens are lovely with superb views across the lake. Fantastic adventure playground for children safe grounds for them to run around all day. Highly recommended it is pricey for admission but we feel value for money was achieved.

Lovely day out. Gorgeous and interesting stately home. Brilliant play area for kids and lovely birds and animals x
S. R.
Always a nice day out. A great play area will ensure the kids get exercised & tired too. We were there at Easter /Spring time so the gardens were looking great.
P. D.
Wonderful day. It seems quite expensive admission but this is understandable. There needs to be a lot of staff to maintain both grounds and house.
Easy to spend the whole day there. Recommended 100%.

I had a really good time. Staff takes good care of visitors - always helpful and ready to share some interesting stories. I'll definitely come back as soon as they open new rooms for visitors.
A. F.
Lovely house, very helpful and pleasant house guides. Beautiful gardens. Ideal for family days out especially the little zoo.
J. W.
Fantastic visit here yesterday. The grounds are amazing for all ages to explore. The lakeside walk is easy to navigate and very pretty too.
We liked the fact that there is an accessibility bus/train/vehicle which can take you around the site. Although we didn't use this ourselves, this is well worth looking in to for those with accessibility requirements as I think it allowed access around most of the grounds.
There is also a large play area here and a truly massive lawn area before the main house. Both look perfect for those with children to use and enjoy, although again we didn't use them.
The house is fab to walk around and you're given plenty of time to wander between rooms. Tickets aren't timed so there doesn't feel like a rush to be in there at a certain time. Each room has a QR code to get more information about what you're seeing.
Nearly each room also has a more modern exhibit in, currently based on doing something radical! A very interesting and enjoyable way of adding something new to an old space. Also quite thought provoking.
The entrance board acknowledging how slavery built the house was also important and helps to explain some of the links to other exhibit pieces.
Altogether this was a fab visit and very enjoyable. Our one low point was we decided to get a drink at the terrace area. We hadn't pre booked but lots of others were sat eating and drinking. Unsure whether we had order at the counter on not, we checked the menu, heard someone else ask and then found a table. After waiting 10 minutes and being ignored by staff who took other orders, cleared tables and even immediately gave menus to a newly seated (older) couple, we left. Not sure what the issue was here, but even if this is the fancier place to grab a snack, staff shouldn't let preconceptions about age, buying power or class let their standards slip.
On the other hand, the other two places we ordered food and drinks were fab with great, friendly service.
J. H.
Lovely place to visit. We was most surprised to find penguins and flamingos! The adventure park is amazing too, if only I was 10 again. Beware though, apparently you have to stop even if the barriers are up. Oops!
a. m.
Been there twice, it was a great fun for kids big gardens, house was amazing. Park area for kids is a fun for kids. They enjoyed alot. Kids really loved the penguins experience. Will visit again in summers.
D. A.
Didn't go into the house, just had a walk around the grounds. Unfortunately, had to keep an excited dog on a lead all the time, but the walk was lovely. Stunning views. Had a cup of tea and a slice of cake at the Terrace Cafe, sat outside and took in the breath taking view from the terrace. The cafe doesn't have a large choice on the menu, but the portions are large and reasonably priced. You have to book to get in, already booked our next trip there.
F. M.
One of the finest stately homes in the country. Very impressive gardens - even in December! Nice gift shop.
M. A.
Been various times to Harewood but I brought my family this time and they loved it. Volunteers really made the experience, thank you to everyone we spoke to, no question was stupid in their eyes. Would highly recommend
W. S.
this is an incredible experience. one well worth spending a day at. its so rich in culture and history. absolutely loved it.
J. C.
Christmas wish experience was fantastic, the house looked amazing and lots to do and see, not too crowded. Very magical atmosphere.Would have given 5* but one of the festive activities was the special pie shop and they sold out which was a shame so we settled for a panini at the lakeside cafe (which was very nice).
E. K.
Great day out. The Christmas's event in the house is good but shorter than I expected. The rest of the grounds, shops, cafes, gardens were good. Enough on offer for a full day in dry weather.
O. Y.
Met friendly staff and ate yummy food. Also view is amazing! And remember book tickets in advance. We passed through the gate easily with E-tickets
J. B. C.
Beautiful gardens. Dedicated to conservation. Well kept birds and animals. Beautiful lake. Shuttle bus can take people around the grounds although the paths are in good repair. Tea rooms OK and will hopefully be back to a full service after covid.
T. B.
Great place to take kids. Well laid out play areas, and a good range of birds to see (especially the penguins).
N. H.
Absolutely brilliant place.
I took my 3 year old granddaughter, we had a good wander around the bird garden, then on to the playground.
She had a brilliant day .. and so did I.
B. B.
There were a few places that were excellent. The Hamalayan Garden and Stupa were fantastic and came as a brilliant surprise. The Bird Garden and Penquin Pool was definitely somewhere worth visiting. The house and terrace were interesting and amazing views. The walk to the walked garden was worth taking. The only things that let this day being fantastic was the walked garden had no soy milk, the ferry was not working. Students were painting in the Bird Garden, some of the toilets left a lit to be desired and signs mean communication and there were not enough to know where you were heading
A. P.
Always a place we meant to go but didn't for years. Wish we had sooner. Lots of grounds to walk around, small animal menagerie/zoo was really nice. The house is very well preserved and the guides friendly, approachable & knowledgeable
C. W.
Wonderful day out for family's with plenty of amenities, cafés and a picnic area. Beautiful house, gardens, lots of walks around the lake or can take a boat trip. There's a few farm animals, Penguins and an amazing sanctuary for birds from around the world that are listed as critically endangered. A bit hilly for walking, but will definitely be going again. 😊
L. B.
Went to the Great British Food Festival. Beautiful grounds, great stalls and entertainment and just an all round great day out.
C. B.
It was a horrible day but the house was well worth it. Of course the source of their wealth is vile, but they do at least acknowledge that. It's pretty spectacular inside, and the Princess Mary story is interesting. I DGAF about Downton Abbey, but apparently the film was made here and luckily not too much was made of it though clearly some people come just for that. We couldn't see the best of the gardens due to the weather, but it was still a nice walk around and at least the little chain ferry has a roof. Enjoyed the birds and animals, although a lot of maintenance is overdue. It was great value, especially compared to the non-member price of NT properties.
A. T.
The house and gardens are lovely, staff are friendly and had great customer service, very welcoming and happy to explain about the history. In a downpour there are some huge leaves opposite the condors which protect you from the worst of the weather, but the condors do get interested in you after a while... Nicely laid out lots of toilet stops and snack stalls.
S. D.
Wonderful estate. Beautiful home which is fun to see. We've been to the Christmas display which was brilliant. The gardens are beautiful with lots to marvel at.
The kids play area is very good and the kids always have a blast!
H. H.
What a fantastic place to visit. I went here with my 7 year old son and my girlfriend. We explored the woodlands, the terrace garden, the farmyard/penguins, the himalayan gardens. We had a wonderful time and could have spent another couple of hours here, without any problem. We didn't even get to explore the adventure playground or the house. Will definitely be back and would definitely recommend a trip here, on a sunny day.
D. B.
What a fabulous place! We really enjoyed the gardens and had afternoon tea after visiting the house. A great place for all the family to enjoy
K. P.
Went to a outdoor movie experience.. absolutely amazing, well done Luna cinema. Great location at Harewood House.. saw Downton Abbey..which mentions Harewood in the movie.
The house itself is spectacular, you must go for the tour inside. Grounds are superb.. ixwould recommended walking through the animal centre then around the river and lake and cross back on the boat.
J. R.
OK, so it's a tad pricey unless you are a member but this place is unrivalled.
Consider before you leave your first visit if you plan to return, as they'll knock off your first ticket value from membership if you apply then.
The grounds are fantastic. The gardens are lovely. Convenient facilities.
Friendly staff too.
D. G.
Had a great day out with the family. Had a good mooch around the grounds ,went round the house and the kids loved the play park .
M. T.
Went for the BBFF which was superb. Lots of stalls of lovely food and great demonstrations. The house was has spectacular as ever.
e. s.
Room Staff today were very snobby and unkind towards children (child asked a question about the house and the woman scoffed, looked them up and down then left) The clothing from the TV shows/ films (Downtown Abbey/Victoria/etc) filmed here are beautiful and it was interesting to read about :) A very lovely and beautifully kept house and garden but the experience was dampened by the not nice staff :(
D. C.
A lovely historic home with a nice cafe. The guides in the rooms are very informative. There is a downloadable guide available. It's a long walk from the road. The family has art exhibits and many examples of fine art throughout the house. The gardens are vast and lovely.
T. P.
Beautiful gardens, even in the rain and the ceilings in the house are marvellous. We loved the statue's cheeky bottom facing the house 🤗
B. O.
A beautiful house with lots of history. We'll worth visiting
H. E.
Lovely gardens with lots to see! The house was closed when we visited (out of season) but there was plenty to do outside for the whole family. There's a large adventure play area, a menagerie, a small farm with animals and lots of beautiful gardens. Would definitely recommend a visit there if there weather is nice!
M. B.
Great collection of birds and small animals in a beautiful setting. Great place for spending a day out with kids, with plenty of things to do. If you dont want to spend for entry tickets, the surrounding area also great for a walk.
A. L.
Went to see Mamma Mia at the open air theatre. Brilliant sunny day and the house and grounds as a backdrop was fantastic. Had a wander round the gardens afterwards, everything stunning.
P. G.
Full day out with the family. Lots to see and enjoy. Little bit on the expensive side but you can see that your money is invested in to the visitor experience so you don't mind. Cafe food was excellent. Red kites were a nice surprise.
C. E.
Just so lovely for kids. Had a bird watching activity today with a certificate at the end. My little one loves the boat ride! Great for a picnic, walk or just seeing the animals.
P. H.
Beautiful gardens lots for young children and older ones to do, plenty of picnic areas and toilets. Nature trails long and short. Great park in area and a good price.
d. i.
Very good ice creams. Feed goat through tube. Bird seed and goat food available from gift shop. Very picturesque. Lovely on a summer day. Cool playground.
T. B.
Good day out coupled with the food festival in June 2022, we’ll go again and see the penguins and friends for sure
T. V.
This is a beautiful manor house, as good as most castles we have visited. The rooms are beautifully decorated with magnificent ceiling painting in every room. The kitchen is one of the most interesting kitchens we have seen in all of UK. The staff were very helpful and informative.
A. H.
Really enjoyed our visit, despite inclement weather. A great house with a fascinating history and helpful staff. We really enjoyed seeing the collection of birds.
J. S. (. P.
wonderful place, good for a walk with kids and family
W. W.
Fantastic day out for the family lots to do and see
D. L.
Lovely place to visit. Himalayan Gardens are rustic and informal with lots of unfamiliar plants and trees. Bird and animal garden is very interesting with some friendly characters. A relaxing place to walk around and if the wild Red Kites decide to pay a call then that's the icing on the cake.
A. P.
Lovely visit to Harewood. Great playground for kids & animals /birds to see. Pretty lake to walk round. Multiple places to get snacks or a meal. And beautiful Harewood house
M. L.
Taking the opportunity to visit Harewood again after a few years absence we had a wonderful trip out.
A lovely, sunny day is always a good start and we were lucky with the weather. We had pre-booked but check before going with new rulings in place from the 19th.
A great cup of coffee was enjoyed in the Courtyard cafe and we then set off into the Himalayan garden. Shade from the warmth was offered and we admired the planting before setting off around the lakeside walk. Wonderful vistas opened up across the lake and we made our way round to the walled garden where we came across a surprising couple.
Up to the contrast of the formal terrace, again with great views across the landscape.
Finished our day with a visit to the old church and a walk along the edge of the woodland. It was good to return and enjoy this very scenic attraction.
D. C.
Nice day out with lots to do when you have good weather
T. B.
The exhibition Radical Acts is well worth a visit. It's woven through the house and parkland, often commenting on the history of the house and the people who built and furnished it. Mac Collins Open Code, a dominoes table set against the original card tables in the Cinnamon Room is brilliant on every level. The house, as always, is beautifully kept and the staff welcoming and helpful. Great places to eat, wander and play.
K. F.
Treated my grandson to the Animal Keeper experience today. He thoroughly enjoyed it. John the Keeper was superb. He spent a lot of time explaining everything about the animals + showing Finlay how to feed them. Huge thank you to John.
S. A. S.
Great food, lovely location and a wonderful venue. Also I must say that as someone with serious allergies I can always rate a restaurant by their approach to allergens, in my experience the serving staff were excellent in this regard. Will be back.
V.
Bird Gardens and animal pens are great, plenty to see (and hear, laughing kookaburras!). Though I feel food in the cafe is overpriced, and not a great selection of sandwiches. Will be bringing my own in future. A good day out with children all in all.
V. P.
Loved it. Beautiful house would love a proper history tour but the Christmas themed walk was lovely. It felt like a home not just a big house. Gardens and views from the patio are also beautiful. Too cold to hang around outside ...looking forward to another visit in the spring
Staff were knowledgeable and cheerful at work.
D. S.
Great experience every visit. Came in for a walk today after a lockdown. Had some delicious launch after a great walk around the Harewood House and park with bird garden. Our toddler enjoyed it too.
In love with this amazing place!
C. B.
Enjoyed by both kids and adults a like, nostalgic and magical x Filled the day perfectly 😊
M. C.
A really enjoyable full day out at somewhere I haven't visited for years. I'd forgotten how much you actually get for your entry fee.
Some great play areas for my daughter, admittedly slightly restricted due to the current situation but not to the point of there being a lack of scope to play.
The small farm and bird area continue to be a great place to spend time, a little tired perhaps but presumably in scope for investment at some point. The penguins were difficult to see for kids as they're roped off for safety but we caught a glimpse. Their enclosure always seems a bit rubbish to be fair.
The one way systems in place around the birds weren't always obvious and despite trying our best we did end up going wrong a few times along with a lot of other visitors. To be fair many were ignoring obvious signs too though.
The grounds and gardens were great to explore and we had a great chat with a volunteer in the Walled Garden regarding all the produce that's there. Well worth the walk.
The Courtyard Cafe was nice, a good selection of items available and good social distancing in place. The track and trace was a bit haphazard though.
The house was stunning as always and the one way route worked well. Volunteers were friendly and helpful and there was lots to see. The feather sculptures celebrating 50 years of the bird garden were awesome.
All in all a great day out, if I lived slightly closer the membership deal would be a no-brainer.
The only weak part was other visitors who, in a lot of cases, acted like idiots, sadly something that's rife everywhere and not a reflection on Harewood who are clearly trying really hard.
J. M.
Visited this week and had a great time, the wife loved the Christmas decorations!
M. B.
Visited with our daughter and her children. Had a good lunch at Harewood House tearooms and then went around the interior, some spectacular decorations for Christmas in this lovely house. Unfortunately we were to late to see birds.
E. B.
Really good value for money, lovely house and grounds with lots of birds and flowers, would definitely recommend and visit again.
J. S.
The house and gardens are just stunning whatever the season
G. C.
Stunning day out with beautiful gardens and walks in the 1000 acre property. Wonderful to experience the opulence of the 17th century.
r. d.
Lovely house to go and visit grounds
Are very pretty
D. D.
My experience at the Harewood Estate was overhaul very positive. The only downside, and quite a serious one, was a ridiculous, woke exhibition which clearly aimed at ''spoiling'' the interiors, and the atmosphere, as well as criticizing the past of the house and ethos of its people.
One can hardly marvel at the amazing imagination, intelligence and harmonious craft of our ancestors while having a pile of garbage spread around every room.
I was really surprised that an estate of such historical and cultural significance gave in to a bunch of talentless, attention-seeking(and clearly hostile towards the western civilization) pseudo artists and activists.
The staff was very helpful and pleasant, and the grounds are well-kept.
I hope that the Harewood estate will not become the Woke wood estate, and will continue to be proud of its amazing heritage.
C. B.
Excellent to see the house dine up for Christmas. Not sure we really got our monies worth with the house as before we knew it we were at the end. So would recommend walking slower than we did. Really enjoyed the lake walk and the Himalayan and walled gardens!!
M. M.
What a treat. house well worth a visit as is the aviary area which is well designed and landscaped. A walk through the Japanese garden and round the lake completed a fantastic day
Y. L.
Terrace drinks with red kites and amazing vista was truly awesome memorable experience. Highley recommend to anyone who enjoys the historical architecture and natural world combination. Bird and animal enclosures OK but not to my taste esp. The penguins and larger birds like the seemingly solitary andean condor. Himalayian Gardens and buddha temple special too. Good range of places to eat and walk too.
R. S.
Great day for the family plenty to do and see, lovely walks around the lake and gardens. There is a cafe where you can enjoy tea and cake. Plenty of free parking. And the house is well worth a walk round. Best to book online as its limited spaces. We paid 13.95 each adult. Well worth it
V. H.
Came here on a day excursion to see the house decorated for Christmas. We approached through acres of lovely parkland with deer and flocks of geese. At the entrance we were given a free map showing all the places to visit and there were shuttle buses to help us get around. Entry to the house was in a timed slot but we could stay as long as we wished. Beautiful Christmas trees and decorations but the main focus of the tour was a Christmas story with light effects, so most of the state rooms were too dark to fully appreciate their wonderful plasterwork, furniture and art treasures. Some nice gifts in the shop and a Christmas gift marquee in the courtyard. Had a delicious leek, roast chestnut and sage roll with salad and homemade chutney in the Courtyard Café. Loved the penguins, exotic birds and rare farm animals in the Bird Garden, the free chain ferry ride across the lake to the walled garden (the two boatmen were really jovial and friendly!) and the lovely lakeside walk lit by fairy lights. Cafes and toilets are dotted around the grounds and there's an adventure playground and Santa's sleigh for children. Overall I enjoyed my visit but did not see enough of what I wanted to see of the house and its history so will definitely come again.
P. H.
Lovely day out !
I just wish the family card was more flexible.
It would make more sense "and profit for Harewood"
We as Grandparents can take our Grandchildren but Grandma cant go with her Daughter and Grandchildren because on my card its Mr and Mrs.
We are still 2 adults and 3 children who would've had lunch and icecream .. Harewood you need to re think . It's a no brainer to say 2 adults You would be making a lot more profit because families like ours would be making many more visits !!
D. H.
Wonderful experience plenty to see and do meals are a bit pricey so take a picnic
S. B.
Lovely day out. Good price. Social distancing in place so felt very safe. Loved the bird experience, think they had missed the visitors as much as we had missed the outings. Well worth a visit even though the house isn't open at the moment. Nice food on site too near the walled garden.
L. L.
Lovely trio of walks. The house was closed but the staff were helpful and friendly. Would definitely visit again.
M.
Lots to occupy you on a day visit if you are willing and able to walk the three trails which total 3 miles. They all start from the car park area so you can pick and choose between them. We enjoyed the Japanese gardens, walled kitchen garden and stupa. the house tour was nice and was included in the ticket price as was parking. All eating areas were really pretty.
D. L.
It's OK. Cannot take dogs in all of it. Very well kept. Nice penguin's and scenery is superb. Great to have on the doorstep.
D. S.
Very pleasant day out. Wonderful house and grounds and great food and views from the Terrace Cafe.
L. B.
Visited last weekend, because of the weather the woodland walk closed and the ferry to the island. A reduction in entry fee would have been a nice gesture.
J. O.
A great day out for the family, the house is really beautiful, lots to see and learn about; but the grounds are the best part; a beautiful lake, elaborate gardens, hundreds of rare and exotic birds to see (including penguins!). The tearoom is really elegant and there’s also plenty of places to eat and get a drink around the grounds. And lots of ice cream on offer if you’re there I a sunny day. A definite recommend from me if you are visiting Leeds
B. H.
Nice house to visit. Festive lighting very nice. Staff very accommodating. Worth a visit.
j. b.
Lovely Christmas decorations in the house, very festive
J. M.
We took our grandchildren to harewood house bought a family ticket, gives you access to gardens house and bird/animal garden .covid restrictions in place lots of hand sanitiser.kids loved the outdoor play area .The house itself is beautiful inside the guides explained the history as you walked into each room and answered any questions we or the children asked. The gardens are beautiful flowers in bloom.we took a picnic but you could get hot cold food from the courtyard.well worth the visit
I. P.
Great staff. Very knowledgeable and friendly, house is great to walk around. Bird Zoo very dated and enclosures small for this day and age .
A.
This is a fab day out, we really enjoyed ourselves just being able to be outside with such beautiful gardens and sceneries, perfect to get away from busy lifestyles and just spend quality time to either yourself or loved ones.
The house had staff in most (if not, every room) ready to answer questions or give information. Everything looked well kept and cared for.
The gardens were beautifully maintained, with so many flowers blossoming & well cut grass.
The farm/bird gardens, were a great place to walkthrough. There weren’t many farm animals to look at, but there was a wide variety of birds which all looked well cared for and look after. When we arrived, it was recommended to go to watch the penguin feeding which we did, and it was nice to watch.
Walking through a lot of the gardens or woodland areas, there was a lot of information points about what animals/insects you can expect to see, and I felt like some of it would be great for small children.
We didn’t eat in any of the cafes or purchase any food as we brought our own food, but looking at the prices it did seem overpriced, there are plenty of benches to sit at in the park so it’s nice to bring your own food and have a picnic. The shop was quite expensive, although most items were homegrown or handmade.
The toilets were clean, and the hand wash area in the farm was clean with all soap dispensers full and hand towels full too.
I definitely recommend visiting, it’s a great day out🙂
P.
5 stars for the outdoor facilities - our 3 yo loved the farm, birds and playgrounds. We adults want to go back and visit the house.
J. D.
Great christmas House tour! Beautifully decorated. Beautiful house regardless of christmas so would definitely come again! Wheelchair access wise we noticed and used the platform lift up to the main entrance so can see the level floor. They also have another platform lift past the gift shop to access the cafe. Disabled toilets available. Steep hills down the the courtyard and bird garden.
C. C.
Great day out. Loved all the bird's they had.
S. S.
Great christmas display inside and outside. 1st time visitor. Would like to visit again in the warmer months. Great adventure play area for kids and even an animal farm too.
P. B.
Great house to have a noesy around. Lovely gardens too, extensive. Boat trips, island, bird garden with all kinds of birds to look at. Amazing play area for the kids too. You can easy spend an entire afternoon or more here and staff are friendly and there's a cafe (2 actually) with seats outside with a beautiful view of the garden and landscape. Totally recommend a visit.
M. S.
Great day out plenty too do for all ages. Children will enjoy the birds and the farm area along with the play area. Adults will love the house and surrounding garden's. Food and drinks are reasonable and admission is 15 pound for adults and under 5s are free
T. G.
An ideal place not far from Leeds city center with lots to see and do,bird garden and farm experience, house, church and lovely walks
D. H.
Great place to visit lovely gardens and woodland park walk
A. F.
Beautiful estate with stunning gardens, mini zoo, fun adventure playground for kids and lots of picnic areas. Perfect for a family day out. Lots of hand washing and sanitizing stations on site.
K. C.
Always a fabulous place to go, we attended a food festival this time very well organised very clean, surrounded in a beautiful countryside estate setting, we had the pleasure of watching the red kites flying over head
P. F.
Loads to see and do, the bird garden is amazing. Just looking a little tired and in need of upkeep in some places, though grounds are vast
P. C.
Great place to let the kids be kids. Get them outside and exploring. Grounds, designed by 'Capability' Brown, are stunning and the house is nothing short of spectacular. Plenty of wildlife to see too. Red kites pepper the skies, red and fallow deer graze throughout the ground and woodland. The bird garden is very interesting. I would recommend a trip on the boat too. Most of the areas are accessible and good pavement / paths all around. Entry isn't too expensive, and lovely places to grab a cuppa and cake.

Lovely day out seeing the animals and the gardens, not recommended for wet weather as the majority of activities are outdoors, unless your going to look in the House. Great helpful staff and all following covid guidelines with one way systems and PPE.
H. T.
Had a lovely day. Looked around the house. Had lunch and went around the bird garden. We watched the penguins being fed. Saw a wild heron and red kites.
M. M.
Beautiful place, so we'll kept. Lovely staff well worth a visit , plenty to do and see for all ages.
M. a. D.
It was ok, only saw downstairs, you couldn't go and see the bedrooms which I thought we would. Decorations were nice, didn't like the borbells in the pans in the kitchen, bit daft and uninteresting. Found some of the young staff quite unpleasant and need more training. Gardens and outside area was nice, the buggy vehicle was not running, the ferry wasn't either, so for value for the money, it wasn't and would not travel two hours again to go there. Prefer castle Howard out of the two.
S. P. M.
Walked around the outer part of the estate, near to the Emerdale film set, no charge.
Woodland walks, open grassland with the occasional sighting of deer, sheep and Red Kites.
Walked through the outer edge of the estate, no charge, and continued to Eccup reservoir, then returned for a walk through the estate
D. Z.
Always a great day out at any part of the year.
I highly recommend the walk in the woods too around the estate!
We come here once a year at least. The garden is very calming. the Bird sanctuary is always looked after. There is a great playground for kids and they can get very tired here (luckily).
the food is not a big deal, but you can get drinks and something to survive the day.
G. C.
Visited for the Great British Food Festival. Nice Tranquil estate. Joined because only 8 miles from us. Great children's playground. House tours and as a member entrance to a lot of events. Lovely Zoo, farm animals birds.
A. B.
One of our favourite places to visit with so much to offer. We particularly like what they have implemented to be Covid friendly. Lovely quaint walks around the countryside, lake and walled garden, take away café locations, beautiful stately home, plentiful play area for the kids.
P. H.
Managing the current restrictions really well. One way system around the lake and bird garden keeps contacts down. Cafe still open for takeway. Toasting marshmallows at the walled garden was really good.
J. A.
Very good playground and many different animals for kids to explore! Really nice panini as well :)
R. H.
Great place to visit - fabulous grounds with birds and animals gardens - 1st time been inside the house itself and very interesting and grand place
E. C.
Terrace Tea Room - Quintessentially Afternoon Tea: fantastic service on our daughter’s birthday. What could be better than great quality food, superb service and a lovely glass of bubbly. A special dietary requirement was no problem at all. What a totally superb step up from our experience last year. Highly recommend.
A. L.
An excellent day out with the Grandson. Plenty to do to fill the whole day. We payed for the grounds and below stairs - didn't think 6 year old would be too interested in the house. Very good adventure park for up to 14 yrs old grandson spent so much time running around and climbing he gave it 10/10. Visited the farm and fed the goats, the bird garden and took a boat ride round the lake (additional cost £3.00 pp). A nice new attraction is the free chain boat taking people across the lake to the walled garden giving a pleasant walk back round the lake past the cascade and Himalayan gardens. Plenty of ice cream kiosks , places to eat and toilets. Parking was no problem in very big car park. Ran out of time this visit to visit below stairs so will be coming back.
B. &. L. C.
Great house, magnificent gardens, matched by the magnificent prices, £30 for a few sandwiches and tea for 3 adults n 2 kids, expensive to get in as well
R. C.
A great day out for all the family with a beautiful house whih has an interesting history. It has lovely gardens, however the fountains in the garden weren't on when I visited. Their is a Bird garden and Lake which are great sights with a wide variety of Birds including penguins, though the brass rubbings could be kept in a better standard for those wishing to do that activity. Their is a very fun playground which will keep children occupied and their are outdoor benches near the playground.
R. T.
I have not been in the house its self but the grounds and park are beautiful with loads of different paths and routes to explore. Well behaved dogs can be off lead a lot of the time apart from round the livestock and in the deer park. The amount of dear in the park is incredible! Thoroughly enjoyed our walk here and have even managed to wear our spaniel out!!
c. p.
The parking is very good. The church is beautiful. Visit the bird garden very entertaining especially feeding times for the penguins. The heron joined in on this. The views are wonderful and the house is not just a museum it is a home changed to the taste of each generation. The Chippendale exhibition is wonderful.
S. R.
Harewood house is a truly stunning stately home, steeped in history. It is wonderfully well kept and there is something for everyone. We have been 3 times so far and recently became members as there are different events taking place throughout the year and being a member entitles you to free, or discounted, admission to these events. The house is stunning to look round with guides in all rooms to answer any questions. There is an amazing playground area for children. The gardens are spectacular! There are penguins, flamingo's, donkeys and many other animals to look at. There is a boat on which to take a trip round the lake (there is a small charge for this), there is the most stunning Himalayan garden and also a walled garden where all types of fruit and vegetables are grown. My only criticism is that the food served in the cafés is overpriced. I highly recommend taking your own picnic and eating it at one of the many picnic areas available.
p. b.
I love Harewood but the only thing that lets it down is the pricing on the food stalls. Just crazy prices. I imagine though that this is because Harewood are charging so much for them to be there.
C. B.
Pleasant and nice walk, wander round and play area for children. Cafe on site. Plenty of parking. A really nice playground for toddlers. A good walk for the family through the little farm area, bird garden and around the lake. It's a shame you can't walk all the way round the lake
A. B.
Such a beautiful place, didnt go to the house but had an AMAZING walk the the Big Dog Walk event!
D. E.
Very enjoyable lots to do and see the house very good staff excellent can recommend coffee and scones on the terrace.
G. C.
My first visit, lovely place, beautiful gardens to roam around, animals to see and the house is spectacular.
V. S.
A wonderful and worth visiting. Huge nice gardens also in the farm area all kind of birds from around the world. Possibility to go on the lake by boat, is not expensive and is worth having it, also the guys that are in charge of the boat are very pleasant and give insights about the house.
It a must see thing though!
Also Flamenco birds are an atraction!!
R. A.
Try the Alpaca walking!!
I have been a member of Harewood for a few years now, it's a magnificent area with stunning sites.
I truly love how they mix up the events making it a different experience each time.
Great food and perfect place for couples, families and friends!!
One of the new options is alpaca walking. By far on of the best experience ever! Such adorable animals and the fantastic expertise of Francesca made the experience all the more magical!!
C. J.
Fantastic place to visit with a family and have a picnic lots of picnic tables and beautiful countryside particularly enjoyed seeing at the penguins
A. R.
Really lovely house with lots of things to explore. There's so much outside space to run around in and the gardens are beautiful. There's an adventure playground for children and plenty of picnic benches. There are also a couple of nice cafe's
M. M.
Lovely walk around the grounds, the house itself and some other areas were closed (due to covid restrictions) spotted Deer in the grounds with Red Kites in the skies above. Spent 6 hours here and still didn't take it all in!
N. W.
There's lots to do at Harewood House and Gardens.
They have a great playground for children of all ages and the bird garden which is needing a bit of a facelift if I'm honest.
The House and Gardens are my personal favourite.
J. G.
I would like to thank all the staff who went above and beyond from getting me a wheelchair to opening different doors and ramps nothing was to much trouble outside in the grounds staff were
so friendly and with a smile I would highly recommend it they also have shuttle buses from the house to the gardens I haven't been for over 40yrs but I would come again now I know how accessible it's is thankyou
D. T.
This is a magnificent stately home north of Leeds which features the talents of Capability Brown, Adams and Chippendale. In the sunshine the house and gardens at the rear are magnificent. There are a large number of rooms to look through as well as the freedom of the estate. There is also an aviary and penguins as well.
M. G.
Harewood House in LS17 is a well presented day out for all the family. However you do pay for the pleasure. The grounds have a Cafe, Farm Experience, Himalayan Garden, Stepping Stones, Penguins, Birds and Adventure Playground plus the house which we did not explore. The Adventure Playground was v good. Appropriate for all ages, big and spacious. It had steps on and off at different intervals which means children can get on and off without a problem. The cafe food was £5 a sandwich and would recommend taking a picnic as there are sheltered benches near to the car park. There is a boat trip on the lake which costs extra.
M. R.
I liked Harewood House. It was quite beautiful and I can say I enjoyed our walks. It would be quite nice to bring in more birds but It was a nice go out
J. M.
Lovely to step back in time. Beautiful house and grounds. Can’t wait to see Christmas decorations again and enjoy coffee and cake on the balcony. Just love this place A membership very well worth having or gifting. Christmas coming up or even birthdays
I. T.
Lovely place to explore the grounds ahead of a time when the house might reopen
H. D.
Such a wonderful estate with so many things to do for all ages. The bird garden especially is very interesting with many different animals, including a farm with goats, guinea pigs, donkeys and rabbits.
K. A. H.
Hardwood house is a wonderful place to spend a day with the family. Beside the house, there is a bird park, animal farm, lake, picnic areas and tables, 2 cafes, and coffee and ice-cream vans, giant playground for all ages and a second hand book shop with a big and interesting collection of books. There is also a boat travelling from one back of the lake to the other.
J. S.
This place is just amazing, I thought I was visiting a stately house, think again, so many beautiful gardens to visit, a farm animal park, Bird Park, boating lake(wasn't sailing due to covid19) but it was there, stepping stones, playgrounds, cafes, and more....you could literally spend a whole day there, absolutely amazing.....
N. O. T.
Lots of animals, specially the birds variation. Its a great place! I had quick lunch and coffee here, it was reasonable price. Their sandwich were so good! Absolutely will come back again !
P. B.
They had a stupid exhibition on at the same time, about crafts??
Spoilt it for me, didn't want to see jeans with holes in or darned socks.
C. T.
Good Park for kids.
Mainly birds and farm animals.
Good walks too.
J. D.
Christmas at Harewood House, stunningly beautiful! Great visit plenty to see in the house and the bird garden was good but I bet it’s better in the summer. The cafe and gift shop are a little on the small side but food is good.
R. H.
Beautifully decorated for Xmas, helpful see staff, lots for the kids to see, house has some creative features/presentations. Plenty of parking, penguins fun at feeding time.
B. B.
Fabulous day out. You can have a great meal on the cafe grounds towards the animal enclosures. Stunning gardens.
K. N.
I would visit Harewood house every weekends. It's amazing place with full of experience for kids. Such a hidden (actually, it's not hidden for people in Yorkshire) gem we could find near our home. Lovely memories with my families. The restaurant offers quite authentic British and international cuisines.
Enjoyable: 5/5
Design: 5/5
Staffs: 5/5
I would definitely buy a seasonal pass if I could stayed in Leeds more. A perfect place near Leeds. The only problem here is to access here with family without a car. Riding a bus (#36) is quite joyful though. And you can ask the driver for the "heritage voucher" which will give you a huge discount for the entrance fee.
I think I can even work here!!
C. W.
Great day, we spent the day at the Great British Food Festival which was well organised with friendly staff and plenty of facilities.
J. H.
Harewood House is an incredible stately home. The facade is one of the most attractive that I can think of and the interior is full of Robert Adam ceilings, an extensive collection of beautiful Chippendale furniture, a major collection of Renaissance paintings and fabulous decor. The estate was landscaped by Capability Brown and you get magnificent views out over the lake from the rear of the house. The grounds also include beautiful gardens, an aviary and a children's playground - something for everyone!
N. G.
Harewood house was a beautiful experience! So much to do on a spring day. Firstly the grounds are great to walk around going from one attraction to the next. Lots of history in Harewood house. Next you have the animal farm with alpacas and exotic birds and flamingos! Flower gardens, stepping stones and ice cream ! Absolutely wonderful.
A. E.
We had a lovely day weather was fantastic views are beautiful house is stunning , kids loved the adventure playground and I fell in love with the little second hand book shop , all in all a great family trip out , we will be back again in the near future ❤
I. W. (.
Very Pricey... Luckily we only paid £19.50
Instead of £30 each would have been nearly £90 for 3 of us.. Not worth it tbh.. Most of house not accessible due to covid nonsense but nice walk around grounds. Thought it would be bigger than it was..
A. M.
Fantastic place we visited today under the rain it was Amazing experience
For these how want to came here by bus you can take bus number 36 it stop 200 meter away from outer door
There is a bus shuttle take you from the outer gate to the main gate the distance about 1 km , 1.5 km
The bus for free
Between the outer gate and main gate very big green space and they make some event in these spaces so today the event was dog championship show it start from yesterday tell tomorrow (28/jul )
We were family of 4 adults and 3 kids
The entrance cost for all of us was 74 pounds
I advice you to start your tour from the palace because it close earlier than the park
Additionally there is a boat take you from place to another for free ( on the lack )
In addition there is a flower garden, bird garden and Penguins
B. S.
Lovely place for a walk, nice food and good to look round the house. Shame ferry wasn't running.
R. B.
No longer any information boards or sheets in the state rooms. You must either buy a guidebook, or rely on very patchy mobile phone reception to allow you to download information from a QR code.
A. S.
Great to see how the Royalty lives, the level of sophistication and the number of people needed to take care of them..The antiques were nice too. Had a great afternoon tea in the courtyard under the sun!
C. T.
Great place for the day, kids playground is fantastic and not just a token playground. Great to learn about the estate and the house. Would recommend a picnic as the cafe is very expensive for what you get, i had a panini that was no different to many other café s but no crisps on the side and price was high.
C. W.
Beautiful house, staff were all very friendly and helpful.plenty to do for everyone.the little gem that we should have given more time too was the second hand bookshop.i would probably recommend you get a season ticket before you go especailly if your a family , 1 it will save you money and gets you discount on other things there ,2 its well worth a second visit . Theres a couple of place to buy food or plenty of places to picnic, plenty of toilets and a lovely play area for the kids.the little boat that takes you across the lake gives you fantastic views.well thought out for familys or individuals .
B. R.
Nice grounds, wonderful house and classic gardens, poor maintenance of toilets.
J. Z.
The best place to visit around Harrogate/Leeds with family or friend. I think autumn is the best season to visit for photos, specially a sunny day after rains.
R. D.
A great day out. Loads to see and do. The outside play area is absolutely huge and kids love it. Great gardens to walk around. The house it nice but some wierd exhibits don't seem to fit with the astetics of the place
A. D.
A really excellent day out with something for everyone. The gardens are beautiful, the formal gardens are quite spectacular especially when viewed from above from the terrace. The walled garden is always interesting, more so this visit with a sound installation in addition to the well tended crops of vegetables and flowers. Some of the produce is available for purchase in the courtyard shop which is a nice touch. I was impressed with the newish addition of a ferry across the lake, it makes the walled garden much more accessible and is fun and free! It's good to walk one way though because the himalayan garden is well worth exploring. The farm animals and bird garden are good for a browse around. The adventure playground is popular with the children too. There is a choice of places to eat and plenty of toilet facilities. Check out the second hand bookshop, it's worth a look.
Best of all for me though was the house which is really impressive inside. The Adam ceilings are fabulous and there are many beautiful examples of Chippendale furniture. Lots of splendid paintings and beautifully proportioned formal rooms. So much to see. The only downside was the Why Craft Matters exhibition which was incongruous in this setting. Interesting I'm sure, but not what I visited to see and it just got in the way. Thankfully it's not permanent.

Agh. So. Let’s start by saying we are members of Harewood. We’ve usually had good experiences, and we thought the Christmas Experience might be good. Let’s be honest. It poured down. Really wet.
Started good though. Even though there were no lights on at the entrance at 3.00pm, or down to the house, (not working as they weren’t on when it was dark either) the lady in her box who lets the cars through was lovely. Sadly after that. Down.....hill. Eek.
The toilets were horrendously muddy. Looked like someone had wiped their wellies Along the sinks and had half dried. Yuk. The Xmas market in the courtyard was very dark inside, lighting terrible, and the folks selling their wares were very miserable (it was wet and cold to be fair)
Went for a nice soup in the cafe, no soup, then got told to step away from a member of my party. To be fair she may have assumed we shouldn’t have been a good together due to Covid, as there were us 3 adults and then my friends hubby came to join us (we all live together at the mo cause we lost our house due to Covid - but I guess they weren’t to know that? Felt awkward though) staff, extremely miserable, they were young though, and did t look like they’d had much customer care training.
Chips - good!! Tick! Though we were quite rudely told to leave to eat the chips...rules are rules. But manners are manners (we were just putting salt on)
Went to the light trail. Was wet. The lights were sweet, at the end after a half hour walk was apparently a huge fire pit. Nope. We have a bigger one in the back garden at the moment. Had a latte, offered us one of those small milk carton things, asked for real milk, said no as the real milk is for the hot chocolate. Great.
Last 5/6 minutes of the light trail is in pitch black.... literally. huge huge fail. And also very dangerous.
Went up to the gardens by the house. Beautiful!!! Inside the downstairs house but, some nice trees, but half decorated bits, very strange, like they half wanted it Christmassy, and half wanted you to not stay very long.
All In all. Pretty poor I’m afraid. Went to stockeld straight after, sadly, which was actually, pretty good. Awks.
I. I.
Well worth paying a few extra pennies and getting a season ticket. So much on all year round.
Incredibly well preserved house and gardens, but the staff inside the house are extremely helpful and informative.
Often the house holds events that show the public how history can actually be interesting.
M. M. (.
Beautiful gardens and birds gardens. In the bird garden it does have some steep slopes so can be a little struggle if you have a wheelchair etc.
Lovely little boat crossing at the bottom to go over to the walled island.
A. I.
Adam interior decor with Chippendale furnishings set in a Capability Brown landscape. Extensive play area for kids and snacks.
J. C.
Lovely place, lovely house, we did a Craft fair here, we sell Handmade Pens and Handmade Razors and Handmade Shaving, lovely people in the area very welcoming,
L. L.
Always a great place to visit. The grounds are great to walk around with plenty to see in the bird garden, even condors. Penguins are always a favourite. Adventure playground is probably the best my grandchildren have ever gone on. The food in the courtyard us of a good standard and reasonably priced.
J. S.
Well, to be honest, I am biased... I just went for the penguin experience (we didn't have enough time to explore the entire place). The feeding experience is truly amazing! The carer John is very friendly and he gave us so much info about the penguins. I had so much fun! The penguins are very adorable! So totally worth it!
S. B.
Beautiful gardens. I am in awe of the gardens. The staff are wonderful even in the pandemic. I 100% recommend and 100% would go again.
C. R.
Fabulous house and gardens.Staff are Brilliant. Birds and animals are excellent.Abundace of wildlife and Red kites made my day.lovly place definitely recommend. Go see this awesome place.😍
s. i.
The most Elegant, beautiful, home, that i have seen, the grounds are beautiful, and just go on and on,lots for children to do,my grandaughter enjoyed dressing up as a little maid,a lovely boat trip, and small animal encloser, and to see the penguins feeding, just topped our day.
m.
Beautiful house, beautiful room, beautiful grounds. Not the best high tea ever but it was good nonetheless. I'd go again.
A. A.
A nice old house with Adams ceilings and an interesting history. The grounds and gardens are a pleasant place to walk and have a picnic. I didn't go to the bird garden as I don't agree with caged animals for public entertainment. But to be fair they do a lot of excellent work with endangered species.
Ideal for all ages
K. P.
What a great place. We loved the grounds and the house that is all set out for Christmas now. Food was also of a very good standard but a bit pricey. A great place to spend a day
N. C.
Thoroughly enjoyable day out, plenty of parking. Staff were all friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming.
I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of things on site- the house itself was impressive, followed by the cafe's, shops, the grounds and of course all the lovely animals.
But I was a little shocked that no tickets were checked upon entry to the house, when it was an expensive admission price.
All in all, great day was had by all and I would love to revisit.
A. W.
We visited to see the Christmas decorations on the house. Absolutely gorgeous and well organised. Will be returning to see the house properly in the future 5*
T. o.
Its nice but not super nice. House is nice. I think the bird section could be upgraded.
S. T.
Well worth a visit but slightly disappointed that I couldn't see every room inside the house as we only got shown half. The garden's are really nice and a great place to visit in summer. Not worth getting a membership for.
T. L.
The house itself (not the Below Stairs section, which is good in its own right) is grand and perhaps bigger than you'd expect. The cafe near the penguins does really good food at a reasonable price. I'd also recommend getting the ferry across to the walled garden but but walking back around via the Himalayan garden.
S. F.
We had a lovely time doing the Christmas light experience and lovely walks around the grounds. Very well organised and felt very safe
L. H.
Spent the day at Harewood as a birthday treat. Was really looking forward to the Christmas seasonal extras which officially started this weekend but was a little underwhelmed on the attention to detail of the whole experience, disappointed several times during our stay and felt not value for money on the ticket price. The house decorations were beautiful but the story of the installation was lost on me let alone my 4 year old child so didn't really inspire children. There was a young staff member who was quite abrupt, bordering rude and very unhelpful when asking about food at the pie shop saying she just didn't know but gave us no help in finding out about our query. When we finally got some food there was no carrier bags to carry it to a picnic bench and only had cans of water which my son struggled to drink and then you'd have thought there would be some recycling bins to recycle the cans but only one seen all visit which was full to its brim at the bothy cafe across the lake. The ferry was such a disappointment as it stopped running at 3pm just as we were about to get on. We met one dad with a child crying as she was desperate to have a ride on the ferry but missed the last boat. Then when we made the trip walking we arrived only to find out they had run out of mulled wine to my dismay and others who were looking forward to a hot toddy as the colder air drew in as the sun went down. I had a flap jack instead but it tasted very stodgy and was very expensive at £2.50. The gifts in the gift shop were super pricey too with £65 seen for one cuddly toy!! The two toilets at two different locations at the bothy cafe and the house were not to a good standard. The bothy cafe one was dirty with a poorly placed hand dryer to not enable me to change my baby easily and the house one had no soap and both had dodgy taps and poor hand dryers. The lighting was basic around the walkways with some areas not lit up at all. I feel it was unfortunate the experience wasn't better and maybe a more Christmas feel would come with time as we edge closer to December as Harewood make extra provisions maybe but feel other Christmas experience have much more to offer and just a bit more would have been nice for the price. Overall it was an OK visit but key aspects that could have made it what we were hoping for were neglected.
E. K.
Lovely house and garden. Upstairs and downstairs rooms are partly historical and partly an interesting exhibition on Mr Chippendale, what we would call today a furniture designer and interior decorator. A small avian zoo is a nice addition, but not worthwhile the visit for it alone. The park and enclosed garden offer relaxing walks. Parking available. Facilities to snack and eat.
L. T.
A magnificent house, lovely gardens and so much to see and do. A fantastic playground for children and the volunteer shuttle service is the best if you have mobility issues. Parking great. We'll go back.
A. H.
We loved our visit to Harewood House. Good parking with lots of space. We took a long walk round the grounds and areas around the lake. For children, there is an adventure playground. There is an interesting bird garden with exotic and British varieties to see.
Included in the admission was the opportunity to see around Harewood House with the wonderful state rooms and Chipendale furniture on display. The best bit was the family history and below stairs which was fascinating. All in all we spent a good day here, which is great value for money. Highly recommended.
A. D.
Lovely visit. Beautiful grounds and well thought through for social distancing.
c. b.
A great day out with loads to see. The full £16 ticket is good value but can be discounted slightly if booked in advance online. It covers both the house, gardens and aviary which is a bonus. There is also an extensive play area for children. We also took the 20min lakeside boat trip which at £3 each was both informative and good fun. All in all a great day out and real competition against any local National Trust site.
A. L.
One of my favourite days out with the kids. Lots to see and do, although I'm not a fan of the birds in cages. Really worth a visit especially at Christmas time.
a. m.
Lovely place for the family to relax. Xmas inside the house was lovely too. Always nice to visit.
J. H.
Great family day out.
K.
Great place for a walk. There have some New walks too
J. T.
Stunning gardens, nice walk around the lake. Nice tea rooms and lovely house
A. H.
Had a great day out here with lovely walks though the bird zoo (aviary?). The formal gardens and the view across the landscape was stunning. The walk across through the Himalayan gardens to the stupa could have been better signposted as we almost missed it. Would recommend a visit without hesitation.
C. D.
Nice old elegant country house near Harrogate in Yorkshire. It’s a reasonable scale - not baste - and very walkable. Nice gardens. Busy while we were there between Christmas and new year.
M. M.
Really spectacular place. Gorgeous gardens beautiful interior and nice to see the animals.
D. M.
No amount of rain appears to be able to spoil the experience the kids have here. The play areas area really quite something. The grounds are lovely and the animals well looked after. If I lived closer I'm sure we'd have an annual pass to pop in and spend an hour or so regularly.
C. A. D.
My friend and I had a lovely day at Harewood House visiting the state rooms, terrace gardens and extensive grounds. The paintings, furniture and ceramics on display in the House (including a large collection of Chippendale exhibits) were very impressive. However, I was disappointed that details about the source of the wealth that contributed to the Lascelles family fortune (I.e. substantial profits from enslavement and sugar estates in the Caribbean) did not feature prominently in the interpretation literature about the history of Harewood House.
m. s.
Lovely to visit this venue, with its royal connection. Hopefully visitors will keep coming to help maintain its historic charm. The grounds are fab, there's lots of historic letters on display from royals and so interesting to read. Well worth a visit.
A. S.
Very nice place to spend the whole day with family
s. a.
It was a great day out if you enjoy walking
W. M.
Wonderful day out
B. M.
We visited harewood house for the VW festival. We have been for the past few years. The kids love the show but they also enjoy visiting the park and grounds.
C. K.
Great place, loved my all of us, the children loved all the birds and the play area
D. K.
The actual place is very charismatic. The bird garden and farm area are organised with a great number of fascinating species. However it is so overpriced. A drink and a bread roll with cheese in cost £10 😱. The admission is pricey enough that there's no need to have such inflated prices within. Everything in the gift shop is so expensive that a souvenir is not worthwhile at all.
A. C.
Wonderful Staterooms which includes Britain's most important art and furniture collection, set within Georgian interiors. BRIGHTLY Autumn colours, a pleasure to visit.
I. G.
Really enjoyed the site. Gardens are stunning, house was interesting and staff was well informed and knowledgeable. Loved the birds.
T. L.
Beautiful house and gardens, I personally enjoyed the animals and the nature trails the most.
J. R.
The play area is really good with a variety of equipment for different ages. There's lots of extra outdoor space for picnics and running around with a football, etc. We enjoyed the bird and farm area too, as well as walking down near the lake. There's lots to do with young children.
Preciously I have been to the cafe, which had a reasonable selection, but we found the bread quite dry, which was disappointing considering the cost. I don't know if this was because they'd been prepared in advance, which may be due to covid. The fillings were nice though.
Generally a good day out, although slightly let down by the food.
N. H.
Beautiful terrace and Himalayan gardens and lake. The walled garden needs further development work.
P. S.
Due to high winds. Our visit was cut short
Love what little we saw. Hopefully will get back later this year
P. K.
Wow. What a place. Huge house, grounds, park and zoo. Fantastic day out for all the family.
T. C.
A brilliant place.
Stately Home - TICK
Historic Formal Gardens - TICK
Amazing Landscaped Grounds - TICK
Boat trips, exotic birds, petting zoo, Penguins - PENGUIIIINS - an excellent play area, café, shop, terraces, archery, wildlife, Red Kites - RED KIIITES - plus we were very lucky with the weather.
One note of caution if you are pushing a wheelchair. Harewood House and the Bird Gardens ARE wheelchair accessible, but, and it's a big but, there are some very steep footpaths. In places I found it alarmingly steep.
Also, parking was a bit rubbish and too far away from the main areas of interest. To be fair, there was a huge food festival on in the grounds and, I suspect, the parking had been altered to accommodate it. Again, though, the parking was at the top of a long, relatively steep drive, so pushing the wheelchair was quite a workout.
A. F.
The house is amazing, the bird garden is beautiful. The staff in both places are knowledgable and approachable.
My only complaint is that we had a drink in the cafe near the bird garden and the tables were not being cleaned in between customers.
h. H.
One of the best stately homes to visit in UK. I suspect it will be more beautiful in summer when the garden will be in its full glory.
s.
Beautiful gardens but to be honest the bird section was very tired looking especially for how much you pay to get in! It's not the cheapest!
P. S.
I was a little underwhelmed about my visit to Harewood House. There appeared to be too many instructions, arriving at the correct time, last entrance to the house at 3.30 and we must get back to the car park for 17.50.
I was told that it was cheaper to book online and it cost me £29 for the two of us.
But, I was pleasantly surprised. There were no extras, nobody bothered us. A fantastic walk around the lake with some wonderful trees and flowers. Entrance to the house was free, some beautiful birds on display. An absolutely charming day.
We will definitely go again.
J. M.
Absolutely brilliant day out for the family. Huge play area catering for different age groups, a fantastic bird park and lovely gardens for a walk round.
Even better was the amazing service provided by the catering staff with a range of delicious food.
A. M.
What a great place to take children and enjoy the lovely walks around the grounds and lake.
A. M.
Such a nice place. It has a great house, little zoo with more birds in it, very beautiful garden, nice plants, flowers, little lake with a boat crossing if you wish, statues, art, plenty of picnic areas, restaurant, cafes and good walking tracks. Good for family or individuals. Lots to do and you could spend hours in this perfect place with great joy.
S.
Really good place to go with family, to learn about the history of part of the British Monarchy. Plus the food they give there is delicious 😋😂😂
J. J.
Visited for the food and drink festival and had a wonderful day out!
M. C.
Harewood House is a great day trip and they have taken many measures to make it easy to stay safe with one-way systems and booking times.
J. W.
Brilliant day out & with the gardens & the boat trip well worth the money would highly recommend
H. O.
Lovely gardens and house. Quite expensive for just the gardens and bird gardens. Lovely on a sunny day. Perfect ground's for a picnic. Easily Accessible. Would recommend and visit again hopefully!
J. B.
Lots of walks around the grounds. Great on a nice day. Plenty of picnic tables and places to sit and have a picnic. House is interesting if you like that sort of thing. Staff brilliant
C. B.
Impressive Statley Home. Friendly welcoming staff. Good dining areas. Recommended. Half price admission as I came by bus. Delighted.
H. B.
A fascinating piece of Georgian architecture! This ancestral home is worth a visit whenever you are in the area. The grounds are lovely for a walk. Overall a lovely place to be.
K. O.
An absolutely amazing place to walk around! The house is stunning, the grounds are awesome and well worth the visit! Will be going back one day to make sure we got to see everything, and have another huge ice cream at the end.
R. E.
Amazing place:). My son loves going all the time. We go to the penguins then farm which if you go to the shop they sell goat feed and wild bird seed :), then the bird garden which has a variety of birds including flamingos :) then back to the cafe or the ice cream hut for an ice cream & then the playground :). And at Christmas the house is dressed up amazing & has amazing scenes around the house during Christmas:). Well worth the trip to go and have a membership :).
L. C.
Nice place. Bit small for the price though, was in a car of 4 and it cost over £50. Flamingos and penguins a highlight.
S. F.
Great day out. Best for picnics and let your kids run free
S. V.
Far from city noise and busy culture. This place has the best relaxation spots to enjoy the weekend.
E. E.
Really enjoyed the visit and the aviaries are brill! Slightly over priced sandwiches in the house cafe - some crisps on the side or larger portions would be more appealing but other wise great service. Definitely a must for visiting.
M. C.
Great grounds and museum which is now showing a black history exhibition. There is lots to do and well worth multiple visits. Be sure to check out the birds and farm animals.
T. H.
Only a few miles out of Leeds. Beautiful landscape designed by Capability Brown. Spectacular stately home. Also a bird garden of that's your thing.
L. M.
Absolutely gorgeous we sorted becoming members so that we can keep coming back. See you and your splendor again very soon
D. S.
Great place to visit. We'll organised House tour. Lots of space in grounds and things to do for all ages. Good parking plenty loo opportunities and lots of picnic tables
J. T.
Friendly and helpful staff, grounds were amazing to walk around especially the Himalayan gardens. A lovely farm and play area for children. Had afternoon tea on the terrace...definitely a must. Would recommend a day out here to everyone!
S. P.
Great place, parks good for children .7-14 yrs
Good selection of birds and a few farm animals, old allotments interesting and old farm house.enjoyed all round
Only disappointment was mobil coffee shop not to goid abd drinks are from machine
A. G.
We went for the Great British Food Festival but after lunch took the chance to look around part of the house and gardens. The volunteers in the house were great for information about the rooms. Great to see the penguins and a fantastic collection of exotic birds round the front of the house.
A. C.
Visited the VW festival that was hosted here. We visited the cafe located in the main building which was nice if not a little expensive (prices may have altered because of the festival). They have a playground for kids as well as a penguin sanctuary. The festival itself was pretty good and would definitely recommend it as a day out even if you aren't into cars.
K. A.
Safe, well organised one way system. Lovely helpful staff, great Christmas atmosphere. Wonderful visit.
A. M.
It was a shame the shuttle and ferry weren't working so we weren't able to visit the formal gardens. The house is stunning with a first class art collection. What a shame we'll have to visit again to see more of the gardens.
I. T.
Magnificent house and gardens, well worth a visit.
M. B.
Food festival good as ever, been a few times and been really lucky with the weather which pretty much makes or breaks it.
L. B.
Lovely house and grounds. The bird sanctuary is very interesting though the cafes could be a bit larger. Very exciting to see the flamingos! The food in the café was really delicious.
W. M.
Great place for day out with kids. Been many times and always a great day if weather is good
S. S.
great fun looking for penguins
P. B.
Walled garden not worth the long walk. It's more a veg patch and most is closed off due to unsafe wall structure and unsafe glass house. Stick to the house, terraced garden, bird garden, and the rock garden which were very good. Terrace garden very peaceful with fine views and small cafe and seating outside to admire the views. Only ground floor of house available to view. Difficult access to house for disabled but staff there to help with chair lift and ramps.
D.
Stunning house and beautiful grounds. Unfortunately we didn't get the opportunity to experience the interior of the house, so a revisit is needed.
A. C.
Lovely setting and very seasonal. Well managed and safe.
L.
Modern art exhibition going on at the moment which sort of spoils the historic art around the building, and a huge horrible sign right outside the building reading “we are what we make” also spoiled a good photo ..
Exotic birds kept in cages which are often not noticeable, garden is well kept and maintained., but didn’t think it was worth the £15 per adult fee. More to see in temple newsam for £2 quid .
M. B.
Always a great day out. Love the boat around the lake, food is nice, outdoor play area is always a success with the children
C. D.
We were here for the Great British Food Festival, but also got to look round the house. Well done to however keeps all those copper pots in the old kitchen buffed, amazing. Capability Brown's gardens as brilliant as ever
M. S.
It was the first time we have visited Harewood House, and we had great day.
The children's playground is second to none to the ones I have seen, and we had a big job getting the grandchildren off it
We had a good lunch at the courtyard cafe.
The only thing that could be improved in my opinion is the information signage to help visitors to find their way around the site.
H. D.
Regular visiter once a year for the vw Festival excellent place to go with family and friends beautiful scenery, animals roaming wild, acres of grounds to walk and when events are held top quality entertainment every time
L. T. E.
Great Christmas experience! Definitely a wonderful place to visit over the festive season!
e. v.
Lovely afternoon. The gardens where lovely and the animals where great. Would do it again. Missed the house since we where late getting there.
D.
A well cared for beautiful house. Well worth a visit.
Unfortunately on our visit it rained so check the weather before visiting if you want to do the walks and enjoy the well attended gardens.
R. K.
Lovely place to spend the day with the family... staff really knowledgeable. A real gem. YORKSHIRE!!
F. C.
Love this place. Beautiful house , grounds and bird garden. There is a children's play area too
V. O.
Worth a visit.....just wish we could have seen the upstairs rooms
K. 1.
Harewood House is a country house in Harewood near Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Designed by architects John Carr and Robert Adam, it was built, between 1759 and 1771, for wealthy plantation and slave owner Edwin Lascelles, 1st Baron Harewood. The landscape was designed by Lancelot "Capability" Brown and spans 1,000 acres (400 ha) at Harewood.
Still home to the Lascelles family, Harewood House is a member of the Treasure Houses of England, a marketing consortium for ten of the foremost historic homes in the country. The house is a Grade I listed building and a number of features in the grounds and courtyard have been listed as Grade I, II and II*.
T. _.
Wonderful grounds and a very pleasant walk around the lake. The bird garden was fascinating (though tbh, we spent the most time with the chickens than any other bird, haha).
M. K.
Wonderful place. The children loved it. Try to visit the little book shop, and obviously the flamingos.
A. M.
Very fun day out with the family. Large outdoor play area. Very nice gardens.
P. P.
The house is a good example of an eighteenth century country pile. It has a lot of portraits and ties to royalty, as expected, on display throughout. I'd hoped to find more information on the "downstairs" staff but the focus is on opulence. The view is incredible (as to be expected) but the grounds are a little disappointing. There is an aviary that talks about how endangered some of the species are but you are left with the feeling that this house is one of the reasons why.
K. M.
We spent three hours here and we did not visit the interior of the house. All in all it was good. A large play area for children and the gardens were small but pleasant. Walk around the lake was beautiful. Would recommend for families. Better value than castle Howard in my opinion for a day out although gardens are smaller.
E. T.
Park and house is beautiful. Was closed unfortunately when I went but otherwise brilliant
C.
I would have put higher but was told the house was closed and still paid full price. That was not mentioned on the website and already booked. Family from abroad came to visit so thought it would be a good touristic attraction... only visited the down below but not as great as the whole house...
D. S.
Always great to be here for a walks and afternoon teas. Amazing family day out, beautiful nature and fantastic bird garden for little ones.
J. B.
We loved the house and gardens, however when we went to take a look at the birds the cages looked overgrown and we couldn't see many of the birds. I am prepared however to think because the weather was cold the birds had decided to stay in their hutches
D. H.
Great play area, and animals. Kids enjoyed the boat ride. The staff also try to make the house interesting for kids with activity sheets as they go around.
N. M.
Great day out, lots too do and try the afternoon tea it's great.
M. P.
Nice day, lots of photo opportunities. Little pricey so might be better take a picnic if on a budget
M. G.
It was so well done. Every room came alive it was Fabulous .. wonderful Christmas experience
A. B.
Absolutely beautiful grounds! I cannot fault them and the house too is wonderful, not too much to see inside but it's okay for 20/30 minutes. We also arrived by bus and walked onto the grounds so we got a half price ticket instead of paying full price. This is a great insentive to make people catch public transport there. However, I am giving 3 stars for the animal enclosures. The penguins looked completely bored in a small enclosure which was pretty sad to see. The bird enclosures were small and it doesn't give them a lot of room to fly. This all was upsetting to see. And I see I am not the only one who has noticed this. To say that your enclosures are in line with the zoo policy or whatever it is you adhere to is beyond a joke. They are in the bare minimum of space allowed. The grounds are huge! You could've given them more space to be humane.
B. B.
Wonderful place excellent for kids to burn energy and exploring 😜
C. W.
Fantastic day out, lots to see and do. The house is stunning and the grounds are beautiful to walk around. The lake is lovely and the farm well worth a visit.
S. W.
Well worth a visit, a beautiful and interesting house with plenty to do and see.
m.
Venue for Northern Counties Cross Country 2018, well organised and planned event. Good access on day for us from North. Good parking and great Venue - more athletics meetings to come here I think. Tough uphill start though!
J. M.
Nice but not many rooms were open due to BBC filming disappointing ! and ferry not operating on the lake due to covid . Gardens are nice to walk around and bird garden.
C. h.
Great for family day out, lovely garden with a well maintained garden
E. C.
Absolutely wonderful place! We stayed the week in a cottage on site, and had access to the house during our stay. The cafe in the courtyard was lovely with very friendly staff, and we had a lovely surprise on the Monday when they were taking part in the 'Dine In To Help Out' scheme. The ice cream kiosk was quick and efficient by the park.
The grounds are so well kept, and we felt a little sorry for the gardeners today in 27 degree heat, especially the gent raking the stones in the garden. All still very friendly and welcoming though!
The park is fab and the one way system round the gardens by the lake is great.
Our only criticism is that the toilets could have been cleaner, but the soap and hand sanitisers on site were always topped up.
The cottage we stayed in was perfect. It looked like nobody had ever stayed in it before! Felicity and the team at Harewood Holidays were wonderful. Thank you all. We have loved our break away.
r. w.
Great place to visit. So many rare breeds of birds you would never imagine. Recommend a visit . Steep in places if you're not a good walker. House lovely too .Helpful staff
C. S.
We had been given tickets for the evening outdoor theatre event, Alice in Wonderland and so were able to purchase discounted entry tickets for the afternoon. We didn't go in the house as we were with our 2.5 year old grandson but we did enjoy the grounds and the all the birds and other animals. Our grandson loved the playground. We all thoroughly enjoyed the show which was very well put together and organised by both the Chapterhouse Theatre Company and the Harewood House team.
T. M.
I highly recommend Harewood House for its breath taking scenery. Its a lovely place to take children with a good play area .it has farm animals and birds including penguins. I have visited Harewood over many years.
A. C.
Lovely day out with plenty to see, lots of adult and kid friendly activities.
S. G.
Nice bird garden and small farm area. Good walk around.
Cafes are a bit of a tight squeeze for pushchairs but no other issues
F. O.
The house has a lot of historical value. It needs an access fee of £15 which would be halved if you come by bus
D. M.
Great play area for all ages of kids. Bird and animal attractions are closed at the moment, but we'll be back when they open. Having to book online means it quieter than most playgrounds.
K. I.
Harewood House is a state home in the beautiful countyside of Yorkshire, minutes away from Leeds and Harrogate.
It is an absolutely brilliant day out with wonderful views of the surrounding fields with plenty of room for open air events.
They also have a playground, café and a mini zoo where you could feed the goats & chickens. They have a few exotic birds too.
Could comfortably spend a whole day and more.
A. K.
Buy a year's membership - you'll want to go back! Beautiful house and estate, absolutely fantastic children's playground for younger and older children and the cafe and shop well worth a visit. Beautiful walks and well organised events.
L. J.
Brilliant range of gardens and activities, the food was lovely and the ferry was a real treat. Staff couldn't have been nicer, would definitely go again.
B. W.
Great day very friendly and helpful staff in the house and cafes. . Good market and atmosphere in grounds with the Christmas lights xx
C. A.
Beautiful walk round the lake and sunken Gardens .Enjoyed the ice creams .But dissapointed to see the greenhouse in the walled garden in a bad state . the capability ferry not running that day Friday also disapointed in .The cnourtyd foid cafe excellent shepherds pie .lovely staff .Main house covid safe 1 way .brilliant .Bird Zoo lovely ..
Z. L.
Very quiet and beautiful place.
Ticket price maybe little high (14.50 online, 16.50 at the entrance) but it's worth paying for it.
I will definitely go back there.
A. E.
Very interesting property. This was unfortunately let down by a very gloomy lighting decision that dulled the premises so much in places that items were simply invisible - a great shame!!!
M. T. P.
Allot more than meets the eye. This is fascinating voyage through history and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an interesting day out. I was under the impression that it was just a big house however there are penguins and a huge range of birds from across the globe. Needless to say I was gobsmacked by this as I was NOT expecting it but it was so cool, I particularly enjoyed looking at the vultures. But at the end of the day that's just my opinion and I hope you enjoyed listening to my 2 pence on the matter.
That's me signing out
Peace, love, and happiness y'all
✌️
P. R.
Fabulous place, especially the house and formal gardens, along with their views.
B. B.
Good place to visit, with the family.
J. B.
Unfortunately the cafe was closed, as staff were isolated, per Covid. The guy from Mobile Jaz Cafe was very pleasant, efficient and coffee was good. The staff in Harewood House, itself were very helpful and pleasant. The lady on the door was lovely. The fact she had to repeat the same information to everyone as they entered, she was very up beat and looked like she enjoyed her role. I couldn't access the virtual guide, but I was helped to access the guide on my phone. Thank you for your help. The virtual guide was good, as it made us look at items we could have missed by just walking around. Each member of staff was lovely and had a lot of knowledge about the house. We were disappointed that the names of the rooms were not displayed. Even with the virtual tour we did get a bit disoriented. We looked at some pieces (they were not mentioned on the VT) and they had a notice saying do not touch. A note of what the items are would make the tour more interesting. Thank you for a lovely day.
S. C.
Excellent beautiful grounds and wonderful house
E. H.
We go every year for the vw festival. Great place and beautiful grounds
H. P.
An incredible place! Magical inside and out. The House itself is well worthy of a pass, mainly we go for the Himalayan gardens and the adventure play park. It isn't a cheap day out, so if you aren't an annual pass holder be prepared to splash out! That said, you can take a packed lunch and make a full day of it. Limitations apply currently due to Covid, so you will have to pre book well in advance. Enjoy!
A. I.
Relative place for all activities. Lovely gardens and bird house. Incredible place.
P. M.
The weather was fantastic so that helped but the house is beautiful - especially the long gallery - & the gardens, bird garden, lake etc are equally as beautiful. Lots of wildlife to see & lovely to see a couple red kites effortlessly soaring above the place. We had a great day out 🙂 👍
C. S.
Stunning house and beautiful grounds. Unfortunately we didn't get the opportunity to experience the interior of the house, so a revisit is needed.
J. S.
Very fun, had been a member for years.
J. H.
Ok we enjoyed it but a lot of walking prices very high but a lot to see.
B. B.
Alfie Boe and his band, with special guests, was great. He is so funny.
On entering the event one of the security staff was extremely rude but the marshalls were helpful and really friendly.
The seating wasn't organised well. We thought we would have a designated area marked out as the "Mamma Mia"" concert had, but I'm afraid not. As long as you stayed within your row, it was a free for all which meant no social distancing at all !
Traffic management worked really well. We were in and out in 5-10 mins.
Overall we really enjoyed ourselves.
Thank you x
M. G.
We had a great day with the grand-children in the Adventure Park, viewing the Bird and crossing the lake to the island on the ferry.... despite the drizzle.
L. W.
Beautiful country house in Harewood, Yorkshire. Full of history with beautiful grounds, gardens and lakes. Well worth a visit but allow plenty of time to explore.
D. T.
Another great VW Show. My favourite location so far for the event.
S. S.
Lovely, expansive gardens. Worth bringing a picnic and enjoying on a warm day between viewing the sights.
House also worth viewing - free online mobile guidebook and WiFi throughout a great touch, especially in the age of coronovirus.
a. p.
Beautiful stately home in a stunning setting . Great family day out at all times of year. Large , safe play area for all ages . Cafe with a view over landscapes garden . Small bird zoo with penguins and flamingos . Superb woodland walks and you can have a leisurely boat ride across the lake .
C. P.
Well worth a visit even in the pouring rain! The bird garden is fascinating, & great fun to see the penguins being fed. Pleasant walk alongside the lake, also a boat trip. The house is very interesting without being over the top. Good cafe & children's playground. Easy parking.
E. M.
Place of outstanding natural beauty well looked after was in absolute top condition on our visit a must go to place if you're in the area
E. W.
Nice day out. Lots of nice things to see including pigs, goats and cheeky parrots. Lovely gardens and the house is nice too.
E. E.
Visited the house and gardens, which were lovely. Could do with more information on who the people were in the paintings and pictures. Very nice and helpful staff.
N. S.
Loved it!❤Architecture, Interiors, Grounds. Plenty of Friendly, Knowledgeable, Non intrusive staff. Only understairs & ground floor open to public, Expected to see upstairs...Travelled by bus & got 50% OFF entry👍🏾
C. H.
Stunning country house in Beautiful surroundings lots going on we went for the Christmas shop in the main house some very unusual Items for great gifts the food was good to.
R. T.
We spent 2 hours in the house alone. So many fascinating stories well presented. Such good value but do book on-line.
M. W.
Great show, very well managed by security staff who were kind and considerate and polite and helpful, can't thank them enough for their consideration of my Wife's heart problems and helping us to get closer to the event.
K.
Beautiful house & grounds. Well worth the entrance fee, great little farm with animals, well looked after. All in all a great visit
S. H. O.
Lovely house to visit. The curators are also knowledgeable and passionate about the House and it's heritage. With it's many connections with film and TV, it is an interesting place to discover.
H. R. B.
Beautiful gardens, great for kids with the play area and farm.
A. D.
Play area is so good our grandson was worn out afterwards, quite a feat!! Went around the penguins & birds then the house( recognised from Downton film) super day out.
N. H.
We enjoyed visiting this place. Possibly a tad expensive at £13/person, not too bad for a full day but if the weather if bad your not going to get your monies worth. Saying that though, excellent social distancing in place. Lovely little animal/Aviary area. Luckily for us the weather was OK. Fantastic views from the house. Would defo go back, with a picnic though !
T.
Treasure house of delight. Beautiful location with some fantastic works of art in the gallery. Perfect sunny day we loved walking in the park around the lake too
S. C.
A fabulous place to visit, even on a wet day there is so much to see and do.
The courtyard cafe was excellent in every way, with impeccable service from Josh and Corinne.
Great place, great prices, great food. Need I say more?
H. W.
A fine example of a byegone era, the christmas display for the young privelidged boys of the 1920's was superb. Marvel at the huge solid mahogany carved doors. Walk the grounds and see " The Good Life" taken to its extreme. Self sufficiency to the N'th degree.
F.
Lots of things to do for all the family. Lovely accomodating staff. Plenty of clear signage and sanitiser available. Highly recommend booking for the afternoon tea, well worth it, especially if the weather is nice and you can sit on the terrace
S. T.
Lovely day out, informative guides, biggest scones I've ever seen.
E.
Visited Harewood House for the first time at the weekend and absolutely loved it! There's lots to see; the house itself and many beautiful gardens, as well as the animal area and lake.
We also sat outside at the Terrace Tearooms which is a lovely spot overlooking the gardens and surrounding countryside. The staff are very professional and accomodating and the food is delicious!
D. D.
Had a great day out with 2.5 & 5yr old. Lovely walks, birds and animals, courtyard cafe reasonable prices and good food. Will definitely go back!
K. H.
Wonderful if you love historical places. Plenty to do and see. Well worth the money. Good facilities and animal park, playground, excellent second hand book shop catering for all ages and likes. Boat rides and 120 acres to explore. Needed more time as you could spend a whole day there. Facilities for picnics which would be ideal on a lovely summer's day.
E. L.
My favourite place to visit any time of the year with kids.
G. R.
Awesome place!
C. R.
Perfect!! Great online booking procedure, excellent tea/coffee/ snack cafés. Fabulous house and gardens, and friendly helpful guides and staff throughout the venue
A. F.
Visited the place with the children, everything is fine
J. M.
The setting and music were excellent as was the staff. The food was too processed and fussy which was a shame as a lot of effort was put into the evening. Despite this we enjoyed our evening.
M. L.
Nice day out. Animals weren't bad. Kids park could do with been on all seasons. When it rains it's like been at Glastonbury. Could do with shredded tyres putting over lawn to make it all seasons and safer for kids to play. Shop is expensive for what's inside it.
S. G.
Lovely place, lots to do.
B. S.
Wonderful place beautiful grounds knowledgeable staff . Beautiful grounds with beautiful terraced cafe overlooking the gardens
V. S.
Very interesting history. Tour got interrupted by fire alarm (false)
N. M.
Most beautiful setting I've been to
R. V.
Wonderful Adam ceilings in a gorgeous house. Amazing paintings in the lounge/gallery with Julie as such a knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteer guide. Hard to imagine better 😁
A. M.
Lots to do there are very large grounds with a number of different gardens and woods as well as a lake and small Zoo with Farm Animals and Exotic Birds. Could probably spend a couple of days here and not see everything.
The food is good quality and very nice and I believe a lot of it if not all is from the estate itself. You might struggle with children how are not keen on fancy food. All the more for me (lol). Its not really just good homemade food.
Didn't go in the house.
The price for what you get is good, although definitely get there by midday to get the most out of your visit. You can join for the year which works out at the cost of three visits. I think this would be worth it if you lived 20 mins away and maybe went 4 times in a year.
J. N.
The grounds have great range of things to see. Aviary, farm animals and lovely garden. We made a family visit with my 18 month old nephew and he enjoyed looking at the animals.
D. G.
Viewed the "Night at the Mansion" Christmas Event. An excellent show, atmospheric and well worth a visit.
a. s.
It's a magnificent house and lovely gardens. Not been there for a few years. Doesn't seem to have changed at all. Some new things would be good.
J. G.
A very enjoyable and interesting day out but bitterly disappointed with terrace cafe - the staff had no customer services-very slow - a long queue to be seated despite free tables to be cleared - coffee served but we left without the meal as it was not forthcoming too late
M. J.
Expensive entry but great experience for kids and adults alike. Joining membership gives massive saving on entry prices if you go more than 3 times a year.
S. W.
Well worth a visit. plenty to see and be sure to make this a full day visit
R. W.
Good day liked the house and decorations weather not good so didn't see much of the grounds but had a good lunch 😋
D. H.
A beautiful place and a great day out. Ashamed to say I've lived in the area most of my life and this is the first visit. Spent an afternoon only, and it's nowhere near enough. Back soon!
M.
Fun day out, and massive estate. We loved the Himalayan gardens, well worth a visit
S. R.
Expensive but just about worth it! Stunning grounds and the bird garden is brilliant.
T. W.
This is a beautiful historic house and we'll worth a visit. The rooms are wonderful with lots of unique items and full of history. There are lots of staff around to provide additional information and I found them all to be very knowledgeable.
The gardens are also great to explore and there is a great bird garden as well. There are also areas where children can run around and play.
If you book tickets online the previous day then you can save a little on the entrance fee.
d. s.
Beautiful gardens and lots to see and do.
h. b.
I think Harewood House is a wonderful place with many beautiful gardens and animals to see. However, i was disappointed that I didn't get to see the bedrooms and certain parts of the house. The staff in the house weren't very welcoming either and certain activities were cancelled due to Covid-19. I think they should lower the prices as we didn't get the full experience. Overall, its a nice place for families.
N. M.
Beautiful, worth a visit and a bonus if the weather is good too
S. T.
Harewood House is magnificent! There is a guide in every room and they are very knowledgeable, making the visit interesting. The gardens are beautiful, even the walled garden over the lake, where they also grow their own produce. This can be reached by the little ferry, when operational, as well as by the well-maintained lake path. In fact the whole estate is very well cared for as are all the fine gardens. There are various places for light meals and teas, or you can take your own picnic to the area next to, and inside, the walled garden. Having not been here for a few years I wasn't sure if my son would enjoy it or not (8 year old). We paid on the gate as didn't have time to book online. Discounted ticket on line. Went round the house which is beautiful. My son did a kids challenge which he enjoyed in the house. Lovely gardens. Also enjoyed the birds, penguins and seeing the farm especially with the baby donkey! Food was nice although, I wouldn't leave it late if you want a meal as hot food stopped at 2.30pm I think. We were there 4 hours, up to closing time and didn't see everything. Lots to see and walk round. Playground to suit all ages up to 14 years. Really enjoyed it!

Great grounds and at a very decently priced family ticket.

Beautiful buildings and gardens but quite expensive. The food in the Courtyard Cafe was very poor quality, save your money and eat at the Bothy Cafe.

Fantastic day out. So much to do. The house gives you a good opportunity to see a snapshot of an earlier time. The gardens are beautiful, with both formal and informal areas which you can roam around for hours. And finally the bird garden has a range of exotic birds in natural enclosures and a handful of small animals that young and old will enjoy looking at. Well worth the entry fee.

What a great place to visit! The house is fascinating but that's not all there is to see and do. There is a lovely play area for the children. An area with alpacas, rabbits, goats and pigs. There is a penguin area, boat on the lake at weekends and little ferry across to an island and much more. Well worth the£15 entrance fee. You can also have a yearly subscription which gives you free entrance anytime.

So much to see here. Great value compared to other historic stately homes. Really good for toddlers and young children. Loved it!

Great day out for any age, lovely house to explore with great helpers who knows lots about the house and the Earls. The gardens are beautiful to walk around, with lots of birds and even some penguins!! Great for kids with a huge play area and lots for them to see and do. A good car park and very friendly staff

Well maintained house, lovely grounds for walking, several caged birds on display including penguins and flamingos. Good play area for children up to and including early teens. Admission a little pricy but yearly pass good value since it is a great place to pop to for a quick visit.

Best historic house I've ever been to and I've been to a lot! Fascinated by the history of the house and the servants quarters. The little farm was a lovely surprise as we were just expecting an aviary. There were rabbits, lots of guinea pigs, goats, a pig, rheas, chickens, ducks and alpacas. The walled garden was incredible with how many fruits and vegetables they were growing, and we loved the bridges by the lakeside and himalayan garden. This would be a wonderful day out for couples and family. You could definitely spend an entire day there soaking up all the beauty and history.
PS. The Kate McGwire sculptures dotted around the inside of Harewood House are interesting but a bit weird. You can't help but wonder how many birds died for her art pieces... (Let's just hope no animals were harmed)

Great place to run or walk around. Best bit was a deer was running straight at us, until it actually saw us. Good job otherwise it would have landed on us!

A lovely day out for families. Beautiful gardens including a large lake (boat trips available in summer at £3 a person, £10 for families), adventure playground (separate, adjacent sections for 2-7 & 7-14), bird garden with penguins, lots of places for the kids to run around - and of course the stately house.
