Reviews of Leeds Grand Theatre
J. O.
Lovely theatre! Beautiful traditional architecture, really makes it feel special inside. The seating is spaced nicely too, sufficient legroom compared to some theatres I've been in! I've been to a few performances including opera, ballets and musicals - always a very special night out if you enjoy live theatre.
S. S.
Wonderful venue. Staff are so helpful. They have some fantastic productions & it's great to see a beautiful old theatre thriving. So glad it made it through the pandemic.
C. E.
A quaint, traditional theatre that is simply gorgeous inside! We went to watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks and what a show...well worth a watch with some quite fantastic scenery manipulation, top knock performances and a magical and poignant adaptation of a classic.
A. B.
Beautiful inside and out, with incredibly efficient and friendly staff who went out of their way to make getting everyone in and out as smooth as possible, at start, finish and intermission.
Only drawback for me was the heat as it built up through the evening. It became very stuffy on the 3rd out of 4 levels and unfortunately the lack of oxygen did make me want to get out as quick as possible at the end!
M. D.
A beautiful and historic theatre in Central Leeds, in close proximity to local amenities, eateries and vibrant places to have a drink. Wonderful show and polite, friendly and helpful staff make for a great visit.
C. C.
Saw Bugsy Malone and it was an excellent production! Brilliant cast and musical talents. Go and see it if you can, you'll not be disappointed! 👌🏾🙌👏

The Grand Theatre is a lovely traditional theatre. We visited to see the performance of Fisherman's Friends. The seats were comfy, the view was perfect and the acoustics were spot on. Would we go back to see another show? Too right we would.
K. L.
Absolutely amazing ! 5/5
I love the inside exterior -
authentic, stunning.
I've enjoyed the performances I've had the pleasure to watch at The Grand.
Dream Girls & Jersey Boys - 2022 !
I will be back in 2023 -
Sister Act ! 🎶

Went to see JTDC on Saturday with my beautiful granddaughter and daughter in-law. What a fabulous night. Lindzi the narrator was beyond our expectations such a super 🌟 star she bought the whole show to life.
The theater staff were fantastic nothing too much trouble. I have some mobility issues and they were so helpful, thank you.
J.
Lovely theatre. Plenty of legroom in the stalls. East to get drinks and snacks once inside. We went to see the nutcracker which was fantastic.
S. T.
An attractive old-fashioned, beautiful theatre in good decorative order. Efficient service at the bar, which coped well with a full house and never felt crowded. Reasonable leg room in the Dress Circle. Lovely informal atmosphere. Friendly staff gave clear directions and were discretely present at all times to offer assistance. Just what a theatre should be.
S. H.
Went to see Blood Brothers, the show was fantastic. The whole experience was as good as any West end show. The ambiance of the theater just added to a great day. Polite and helpful staff. All seats would give a good view . We sat in the stalls, row E, which was very close, but have alsob sat in the stall at row P, which was also good and not too far from the stage. I would highly recommend the Grand.
K. W.
The show was great. We had a person in a wheelchair in our party. Even though a seat had been removed, there was not enough space. The people behind asked us to move the wheelchair forward so they could move their legs. Her husband then had to climb over the back of the chair to get to his own seat. This happened every time someone wanted to get past, which was frequent.
N. T.
Nice venue
Comfortable seating and great view.
Excellent sound and lighting.
Wines could be better but reasonably priced.
Had to remove a star, because the staff don't allow a photo of stage.
A. S.
AMAZING performance of Les Miserables tonight! Thank you too, to the staff who looked after me when I had to leave the auditorium part way through the first half due to a coughing fit! They made sure I had a warm drink and let me sit at the back until I felt better. Fantastic start to the festive period. ❤️
E. D.
I always enjoy a visit to The Grand, I particularly enjoy the musicals as it's a great auditorium.
A. A.
Fantastic nostalgic Victorian era experience. Staff are all exceptionally professional, friendly, attentive and kind. Fabulous quintessentially English theatrical venue. Most enjoyable. However, the Victorians must have been much smaller in gait and stature than people today as the seating is somewhat snug !
m.
Exceptional staff but this is as it was in Victorian times. The toilets were clean but queues were quite bad. The bar is very poorly stocked and overly expensive. We go to theatre quite often but this is a first for here in maybe 5 yrs. It's a 50 mile round trip so will look closer for a more comfortable entertainment experience.
D. B.
We visited on Thursday to see Joseph and his techicolur dream coat.
Let's start with the staff they just can't do enough to help you, just excellent.
Merchandise, I bought a t-shirt £20, brochure for £7, and a tote bag for £10.
We sat in the upper circle about 5 rows back, we had a good view and could see the whole stage.
The show itself was fantastic, amazing orchestra, lights, scenery, the dancers and cast were fantastic.
But!
I think they over did it by casting children in adult roles. I'm unsure if this was a money saving thing or what. But for us it just did not work.
Also it was a little like a one woman show with the narrator taking on many roles, that she did excellently but there were other great cast members with smaller roles that could have taken on an extra character.
The energy and fun really bounced of the stage .
And of course Jason was fantastic, as someone who never got to see him as Joseph a dream came true for me seeing him in the production.
S. W.
Saw Sarah Millican last night amazing!! But I thought they would've put social distancing involved we were like sardines in a tin & seats were too small for chubby people But overall fantastic place very old fashioned very beautiful I wish I bought my camera
k. k.
Absolutely amazing staff so friendly and helpful. Beautiful building an very well organised in regards to covid restrictions and comfy seats and not over priced. I Absolutely love this theatre and have more events booked here
G. B.
Our first visit to see Opera Norths Carmen As newbies we got a goodie bag too. Carmen was great and the seats had good legroom which is a plus for tall people.
V. N.
I go here a lot so it seems strange writing a review. The loos are in need of repair/modernisation if I am honest but there's plenty of them and you don't queue as long as you do at other large local theatres. I feel that you get more leg room here than at other large local theatres. But what prompted me to write a review was VEGAN ICE CREAM. Thank you so much for stocking it, and not just in boring vanilla. I have a choice of flavours and none of them are boring. Thank you Leeds Grand and thank you Northern Bloc ice creams 😊
S. M.
Les Miserables yesterday was fantastic. The cast did the show proud. Beautiful voices and excellent casting, loved the landlord and landlady, they performed it to perfection.
My only gripe is the amount of people in the audience who had coughs and colds. Ridiculous. Don't come to the theatre if you are ill, it's not fair on everyone else.
My friend was also annoyed when someone's phone went off during a song. Huge praise to the performers who managed to carry on singing and not be put off.
Well done to the actors, the orchestra and the theatre.
C. W.
Great little Theatre.. Very convenient parking at the Q- Car park round the corner
J. B.
Wonderful staff so jolly and kind to us all. The performance was so good it had my 3 year old granddaughter entranced, and of course we thoroughly enjoyed it too. Top marks to all at Leeds Grand for making our day out so memorable.
V. T.
Always a pleasure to go to the grand. Sat in Upper circle for first time. Was directed to the bar as seating area wasn't open. Never been in the bar on the upper circle so was nice to go in. Could do with maybe a bit more seating in it but overall it was nice. Friendly staff. Clean toilets, could do with modernising a little bit though. Overall, a lovely time.
M. D.
Had an excellent night at a performance of Les Miserable. Lovely building, surprisingly good legroom and comfortable seats. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Looking forward to finding a reason to go back.
D. A.
Went to see Joseph and his technicolour dream coat, the Theatre is beautiful the production was excellent, totally recommend.
S. W.
Staff friendly and informative. Well organised and everywhere very clean, including toilets. Can choose/book own seats, so had good views?! Good leg room compared to some theatres and building so ornate and well kept.
A. A.
Lovely venue. Definitely deserves it's "grand" title. The balcony seating was confusing when we went, with the upper not clearly marked on the tickets. Arrive early if you're up top, to try and work that one out!!
B. A.
Went to see les miserables. Booked upper balcony AA row. We knew there was restricted viewing, but this had no view at all. We asked to be moved, and we were at the interval. Also, the couple at the side of us left altogether. But the show was great
T. P.
Saw Blood Brothers with a wonderful cast of 'unknowns'. Only criticism is that there was something amiss with the acoustics. Much of the dialogue was inaudible and often drowned out by the orchestra but it didn't seem to matter all that much because the whole thing was carried along by the atmosphere and the total commitment of the actors to their characters. The lengthy standing ovation at the end was richly deserved. My wife left the theatre with tears streaming down her face.
G. P.
I went to the 60s gold night .and WOW. What a night. Fantastic. The staff was so friendly and helpful. And anyone who has not been to the theatre should try it .hats off to all at the grand theatre. Well done .
T. L.
Unfortunately the only seats available were right at the back, just in front of the sound/lighting desk. The guys on the desk were talking throughout the show. I could appreciate if it were the necessary show related matters but they were discussing personal issues.
Staff at the theatre were friendly.
Follow spot Q’s were off, usually lighting up the actor several words into the song.
Good production but lacked some professionalism.
S. Y.
Saw the NutCracker on Tour, Lovely clean theatre with happy staff and fair FOH prices.
C. P.
Outstanding venue. Great location, friendly and efficient staff and a beautiful venue. The choice of shows is really eclectic, which I think is important, and getting refreshments is relatively simple from a few different bars.
S. P.
Went to see Jane mcdonald, other night had a fantastic time and the theatre is such a wonderful place
C. H.
Staff were fantastic and helped me so much. Thank you so very much. Especially Hue so sorry if name not right. Thank you grand theatre for making our visit special. And your kindness and support xxx
L. C.
We saw Bugsy Malone! at the Leeds Grand and it was superb. The theatre is clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. Drinks and snacks are available, but are quite expensive.
The theatre lost a star as the seats are quite uncomfortable and worn.
M. R.
Great show. But upper balcony was poorly lit and quite cold. Seemed to be Aircon vents in the ceiling that were too efficient for December
A. E.
What an iconic gem. This theatre 🎭 is a marvellous magical place and if in Leeds wanting to see a show this is a MUST visit, you will not be disappointed.
D. B.
I went to see Les Miserables - the whole production was fantastic, from the cast, the staging, special effects, orchestra, everything!! The theatre staff were very friendly and welcoming.....couldn't ask for more.
C. L.
Very good production.
Some staff off-hand, but when pressed were helpful enough.
Standard seating from our vantage point. Venue and security well organised for a matinée show.
P. S.
Been today to see sixties gold was absolutely fantastic , I assisted a wheelchair user and a blind person the staff were absolutely brilliant, especially a young lady called Steph. She assisted us to get to our seats and made sure we were all well looked after. Steph even made sure we all managed to get to the lift ,to leave after the show ,a really credit to your company thankyou
J. S.
Bought last minute tickets really enjoyed the show.
Clean and tidy in all areas. Staff very helpful.
N. R.
I have visited The Grand several times this year and thoroughly enjoyed it every time. My only reservation is the seats are quite tightly placed and awkward if someone needs to pass, especially for myself with a mobility problem.
J. S.
Love the Grand Theatre. Its a wonderful building. If you've never been you should go see a show or a play there.
A. B.
A beautiful Grand Victorian theater with oodles of character! Lots of bars, and centrally located.
One of the very best in the country!
G. P.
What a theatre this is, high Victorian, beautiful inside, the staff are great, we ordered drinks for the interval which were brought to our seats, I have not been to the opera before but this was a treat , we saw La Traviata the whole experience was great......much enjoyed....x
K. E.
Loved the way everything is organised. The building is beautiful inside. The booking system is easy to use. And the performance 🎭 was excellent.
J. F.
Amazing performance. 👏 lighting in first bar on the right was dreadful though ... they need to revise this as it spoilt the evening atmosphere of theatre ... felt like I was in the office lift
A. C.
Gorgeous auditorium with great performances! Tickets cost less than an average football match or pop gig when booked on time - super inclusive!
T. F.
Went to see the nut cracker, it was packed, so says a lot for the quality of the performance, which was fantastic will be going to see something else in the future
H.
Amazing show, but toilets not very clean and some staff were bordering on rude.
L. W.
A beautiful theatre and Les Miserables was fantastic.
J. D.
Lovely old theatre, bang in the city centre close to parking and places to eat & drink. Have been to a few productions here, we usually get seats in the stalls which for an old theatre, are reasonably spaced and cushioned - although I was starting to get a 'numb-bum' during the wonderfully long, School of Rock production this week. Sound quality from the stage and every seat we've ever bought has had a fab, uninterrupted view. Only gripe is related to the stepped walkways leading around the Stall rows. Watch your footing as it's easy to trip or 'go-down' as I've witnessed several times with people. They have them lit, but even so - watch your footing. Apart from that - always a good experience.
A. B.
Went to see school of rock. Amazing show! Easy to get to from train station.. staff are. Organised and helpful. I love going to theatre there and leeds is a good one. Easy access.
P. D.
Grease was brilliant. My wife was pleasantly surprised. Turned out to be a good birthday present for her.
l. H.
Lovely place but the usherette was a bit keen bought some sweets in the theatre and got told off for trying to open them said (was rustling) why sell them if you can't open them!
J. W.
Visited to see sixties gold show, lovely theatre, but I found it a bit lacking for wheelchair users as they appear to be put at the end of the rows of seats next to metal pillars, plus the ladies loo was put under strain after the show ,but overall a great place to see a show
C. T.
Excellent show 👏 great performance 5 🌟
Only one gripe more ladies toilets 🚻 needed please 🙏
J. B.
I went to see Disneys Bedknobs & Broomsticks a few nights ago with my little man (8y) and my mum (pensioner).
The opening act is 'setting the scene' and explaining the story, it's also not spoken. I have to say as this went on i was worried that my little man wouldn't persevere or wouldn't enjoy it.
My worries were forgotten, my little boy was completely engrossed! The actors did a fantastic job considering all the covid upheaval. The actors were all really very good, but the leading lady was amazing, she really was outstanding! Her voice was perfect.
The other thing I was very impressed with were the 'magic' parts, the flying on the Broomstick, the bed and the dancing shoes etc. They were done so well my little boys mouth hung open lol, he said "Mama, they must be real magicians too" after wracking his brain trying to work out how it could have happened 😁
The whole production was brilliant, it was good wholesome family fun and I would definitely recommend you to go see it before we're locked down again!!
One thing I did find disappointing, was the audience at the end. Only one couple and my family stood to applause. Considering the work and quality of the production, I found it very disappointing and quite rude to be honest. Had the production been mediocre then I could understand it.
For the show itself I give 5*, for the venue I give 4*. On the website they advise of their recquirements from the public regards mandatory face masks, and also their covid measures in brief. Besides a couple of 'sanitiser stations', that was pretty much where their covid measures ended!! There were at least 30% of the theatre not wearing a mask, and many that did, took it off when they sat down even if they weren't eating or drinking! They also state due to covid restrictions that snacks and beverages would be made available through an "in seat refreshments service"; that was non existent!!! Everyone piled out at breaks for toilets and refreshments. To be honest, I didn't see a single member of staff smile, and one older lady with blonde hair who was quite short, seemed quite irritated when I asked her if our seats could be accessed from down a corridor that was free of people. We had already been directed by her earlier where we could go, but we needed to use the bathroom before we sat down.
I completely get that things are stressful for many businesses at the moment, but when you pay £146 for 2adults and a childs tickets, you aren't just paying for the show itself, you are paying for the whole experience, and I felt the latter lacking.
If you are a more vulnerable member of the public and potentially taking risks by going to the theatre, I would definitely rethink before attending. The show as I have said is brilliant, we absolutely loved it. But you need to consider the environment too, because no-one within the theatre was made to wear masks.
P. C.
The grandeur of the auditorium is breathtaking. What a place.
You must go at least once in your life.
D. C.
Lovely decor, good views of the stage from most seats, pleasant staff.
Cold drafts in places, pricey drinks.
M. M.
Leeds theatre is old decor of which i expected. Service inside for drinks and showing you where you should be sat was very good. Prices for drinks are on par with pub prices so not so bad. We was on the 3rd tier balcony in around tye middle. This place is 2nd highest of the theatre. I had a normal size people sat in front of us and our view of stage was still good. The seats them selves were not very comfy for me (im 5ft 6inch tall) and it is as if they were made for smaller people. If you are on the large size you will find the seats very uncomfy. I would still recommend going to this theatre but perhaps get better seating than being so high up as i like too see the actor's facial expressions of which you can not see being so high up. The sound was very good so hearing was no problem.
M. C.
The place is lovely to walk round, a lovely place for culture but the space between the seats is a nightmare, went to see les mis and I couldn't get comfortable all night
B. H. (. C.
Amazing experience, the staff went above and beyond to help out and make us feel welcome. Can't recommend enough, fantastic accessibility support!
S. C.
Old characterful theatre. A tad cold which I prefer, the bar is well priced. Ladies room dated.
V. G.
Beautiful theatre. Ousing character. Only thing that would make perfect is air conditioning. Very hot for customers so can't imagine what its like for the artists.
Still was very enjoyable. Proud its our theatre in Leeds.
S. F.
Gorgeous theatre with a fantastic atmosphere. Saw Chicago here and the production was amazing. View from the upper gallery was phenomenal and the acoustics were ideal. Definitely looking forward to seeing a show here again soon.
l. b.
Had the best time!! Brilliant seat. I just love this production of jersey boys. It's magical. I watched it twice in Bradford and just had to go again!
C. R. (.
Attended the opening night of 'Let The Light In' 2021 Tour with Jane Mcdonald. I was up in 'the gods' on The Balcony so, not the best views but sound was Incredible.
S. C.
Beautiful theatre, good seating, unfortunately we found the bar staff rude and unfriendly.
D. W.
Had a fantastic afternoon in this beautiful Victorian theatre with "The Jersey Boys" It was so good I could have gone straight in to the next performance. Singing and choreography better than the real thing by far!
M. H.
Lovely old traditional theatre, looking a bit tired but understand plans for refurbishment. One of the best shows we have seen ever. Joseph and his amazing technicolour dreamcoat, fantastic cast, brilliant production
A. N.
Went to see Dreamgirls last night with my Wife and we both enjoyed it great show. Lovely old theatre with very attentive polite staff who showed us the elevator so we did not have to climb all the stairs as we had a balcony seat, but still had a great view 😀
P. L.
A cultural diamond bejeweled in history : industrial, social and theatre history. So much special stuff has happened above the footlights and under the autitorium's grand chandelier. Millions of imaginations have been coaxed and ignited into private animations. Bravo Leeds.
S. B.
Very courteous staff would've liked opera glasses for a better view as my seat was in the balcony
D. R. S.
Really great theatre, friendly staff and good all round atmosphere for a great theatre experience
M. D.
Great traditional theatre, with friendly staff.
Derren Brown brilliantly performed Showman in a manner fitting of its name.
Seating is quite cramped in the upper circle
E. H.
Been there last night, watching “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat” it was so amazing, good to see Jason Donovan still fit& handsome 💚👏👏, beautiful young Josep and rest of the cast, they all so extremely good 👏👏👏❤️
K. R.
Beautiful venue and the staff are organised... no issues with getting in or out of the building, and they have enough toilets in the ladies to ensure that any interval queue moves along quickly.
G. S.
Dream Girls on the 1st July did not resume after the interval. The audience were only told due to a technical issue the show was cancelled. It would have been nice to be told the cause of the technical issue.
V. G.
I took my Daughter and her family to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat on Tuesday 19th July 2022 at this wonderful heritage Leeds Grand Theatre. (If you have not had the chance to go and have an interest in architecture and historical decor / engravings you should it is amazing). It was the hottest day on record. Given the weather forecast predicting that the theatre actually sent email offering the chance for people who had booked to change the night of performance to later in the week. We didn't take this offer up due to family commitments. However I want to give a massive shout out to the theatre staff who, when we arrived offered us free bottles of Harrogate Water and free ice lollies. These were on offer throughout the performance. Whilst the lollies did not taste exactly brilliant because they were organic it was the care and availability of theatre staff in case of anything going wrong on what was a very hot night at their theatre which stood out last night! If I could give more than 5 stars I definitely would. Well done the staff of Leeds Grand Theatre!
Re the show itself:- it is amazing, full of colour, energy, brilliant songs and music. The cast especially the narrator were unbelievable and excellent given the costumes and lights in what was a very hot evening. The performance was impeccable the dancers and cast must have performed every dance possible. However I need to give a shout out to the Musical Director and members of the orchestra. I have to say they were brilliant. At the start of the 2nd Act they played an overture of songs and they got the audience clapping and cheering so they played louder with the Musical Director acknowledging and encouraging us It was perfect! At the end of the performance the cast gave us an encore. Well, what can I say? The audience was on its feet clapping, cheering and singing but the encore was not just a song from the performance they must have sang all the songs! What a brilliant show and night at an amazing theatre. Thank you to the theatre staff, back stage production crew, the cast and especially the Musical Director and his orchestra!!!
c. w.
We went to watch Kevin Bridges! Great show, great staff, great theatre in a great location.
R. J.
Absolutely awesome experience went to see Derren Brown. Beautiful building great atmosphere and the staff were fantastic very welcoming friendly and helpful. If they were my staff I would be very proud. Thank you. Rob and Yvonne x.
m.
I havnt seen a show here but I was working on maintenance so I got walk round the theater. I havnt been here before so walking in was breathtaking it is absolutely stunning inside. I'm really looking forward to eventually seeing a show.
S.
we had seats at the top of the balconey, was restricted view and stairs very steep. would NOT recommend fir antone who has difficulty walking, young children.
Spund was not good, couldn't hear everything that was sung.
m. m.
A wonderful old theatre. Every show is much better in this theatre. Atmosphere is amazing. Well stocked bar and plenty of ice cream
J. F.
Fab afternoon's theatre entertainment watching les mis. This theatre is a beautiful venue.
p. w.
Been to see Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat it was fantastic. All the cast were excellent but the star of the show for me was the narrator, Linzi Hateley.
I first saw Joseph in 1991 at the London Palladium when Jason Donovan played Joseph, Linzi Hateley was the narrator then. She is just as good now 30 years on in fact she’s better!!! What energy and fun she brings to the show. The show is pretty much the same as it was but maybe slightly modernised and Linzi is a bit more cheeky this time round. Excellent show I could watch it again.
C. B.
Was in balcony and every member of staff went above and beyond.
Was a pleasure to be back in a theatre.
Great and old theatre, beautiful venue.
Thank you.
c. w.
Friendly and caring staff the shows are Brilliant there are places to park wheelchairs the bar is good for a pre show drink a very good experience if you've never been before...
S. M.
Lovely performance staff nice but seats very cramped disabled was in pain most of the night due to being restricted. No matter how good performance is difficult to think of coming back due to pain
E.
E36 upper circle dont book this seat pole in the way
r. e.
Very nice theatre that is worth the visit, not very big but good sound even from the balcony where we were seated.
D. A.
A beautiful theatre that has a fantastic history and dedicated staff. The stalls are a great place to view the stage, on the condition that there is not a tall person sitting in front of you. The simple design of staggered seating would alleviate this problem. However, a brilliant atmosphere is created by the building in which to be entertained and enjoy an evening out.
r. w.
Box D, great view, but you need to lean over if you wish to follow all the activity, dráma, orchestra etc. Next time we might go for the dress circle, end of row.
s. f.
The Shows. The history. The beauty. Leeds Grand is a special place as are the staff. Excellent Excellent Excellent 👏 👌
C. H.
This venue is absolutely stunning!!
It's such a beautiful setting and most of the seats have a fabulous view of the stage.
I have never had a problem with the sound either.
Yes the bar is a little pricey but it is no matter where you to these sorts of places.
Location is great as you can easily tie on dinner and show.
They have such a range of performances- something for everyone
B. R.
Went to see Opera North's production of the classic Orpheus given a new twist. Claudio Monteverdi masterpiece has been given an Asian twist byJasdeep Singh Degun and the fusion of tge two was simply mesmerising.
R. G.
Great theatre, always organised and some fabulous shows.
S. D.
An impressive theatre with exquisite detaiked decor. The Opera North performance we went to see was fantastic with a mix of contemporary dance and Opera.
I like the venue though the seats we had didn't give us a great view as they weren't high enough to get over the heads of the people in front. Anyway with a bit of head bobbying we could see. We were in the upper circle and I wouldn't choose to sit there again.
The bars were nice and efficient, so there wasn't a long wait. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
k. y.
Lovely theatre, friendly helpful staff, nice relaxed atmosphere, thoroughly enjoyed myself.
F. M.
The theatre is amazing and the shows are always fantastic!
Love going here then on for a drink in town.
S. L.
Always a fantastic experience, the staff are always friendly and incredibly helpful. They really help make the experience more magical. Such a beautiful building too, it truly makes going to see all the wonderful shows even more of a memorable night.
G.
Lovely theatre I have attended for a few performances over the years. My only criticisms are that it can be a bit cramped for seating if it is busy and can be hard to see the full stage if sitting level to be stage or on the side balcony.
Also buying drinks and refreshments are a little bit expensive so eat before or bring your own.
A. H.
Have been many times over the years. Elaborately decorated theatre of it's time. Wouldn't hesitate to see other shows here in the future.
P. W.
Beautiful old theatre and opera house.
Staff were excellent, booking / ticket collection very easy.
This is an old theatre, so expect small, old seats that may lean one way or another - all adds to the charm!
L. F.
Bar/drinks quite expensive but there are jugs of water and disposable cups near the entrance doors. Very helpful staff and enjoyable experience
G. S.
Fantastic show. Lovely theatre. Bedknob and broomsticks is a must if you get the chance to go.
H. H.
Beautiful theatre - it is indeed, 'grand' as the name suggests.
We love to visit here regularly.
G. S.
After the last few years we’ve all had, great to be back at Leeds’ premier theatre venue sat next to real people and listening to incredible live performers and amazing live music. Nothing quite like live theatre. Nothing quite like The Grand.
S. M.
Amazing show. Lovely surroundings. Had a great view. Security did a good job of removing a lady who was spoiling the show for others. There was no interval. We didn't have a drink but the queues at the bar were small so I presume service was quick.
G. O.
Amazing place. I just wish the seats were more comfortable..I always leave with backpain after a 2h30min play. Social distancing not really applicable.
J. S.
Top notch theatre. A good range of touring shows.
The building and the auditorium are a magnificent example of Victorian architecture. This does mean that facilitates such as the bar are a little cramped.
The bar prices are very reasonable.
Worth a visit.
J. W.
Fantastic venue to see amazing shows.I've been here several times before and have never been disappointed.
T. S.
Drinks are over priced and definitely need to add air con but stunning venue!
Derren brown was out of this world!
M. R.
Orpheus was fantastic!!!
Want to watch it every night till its finished its run! Was absolutely brilliant... 🤩
M. J.
The safety checks were exellent ,with bag checks, electronic security scanning for bodies,,plus personal scanning. The venue had plenty of security staff, general helpers, cleaners & paramedics .The toilets were plentiful and spotless. The bars were very efficient. The Barry Manilow concert was amazing.
N. S.
Great show. Great theatre. We were warned in advance by email about the temperatures but they did a great job in keeping it cool
T. F.
Fantastic to be back seeing live entertainment again after lockdown.
Only disappointment was the limited selection of drinks in the bar but understand the limitations at the current time.
F. K.
Saw The Curious Incident of the dog in the night-time at the theatre. From Row J the view was excellent and the seats were comfortable and with good leg-room. Looking around the theatre, it looks as if most seats would have a good view.
J. L.
Brilliant production and staff couldn't have been kinder and more helpful when I needed to change my seat having recently had a knee replacement.
N. M.
The show was great. The seats are absolutely awful..... I know this is a historic building but there's literally no room between rows.
J. W.
Great building. Seats a bit too small. Quite high up. Great show. Would go again.
L. C.
Absolutely beautiful inside. No queues for the bar or the toilets. A lovely place to visit. My favorite theatre
G. B.
Have been here a few times now, it's clean, always a brilliant atmosphere.
D. L.
A beautiful old theatre and a wonderful performance. Only criticism was our view from the back row of the circle. The seats were not off-set so I was looking at the back of someone's head or leaning to one side in order to see the stage. Shame really as all other rows seemed to be off-set.
c. r.
Great venue with original features and amazing ceiling!good acoustics and fantastic Northern atmosphere would highly recommend
M. R.
Lovely building great view of the stage acoustics really good. Staff very helpful only criticism the seats could be bigger.
L. R.
Last Mis great show but theatre too small was much better on west end....
B. G.
A beautiful place, super staff, easy to park nearby, plenty of places to eat near.
P. S.
It is an historical building. So expect tight seating in the upper aisles. Toilets on most levels. Clean seating and helpful friendly staff.
n. c.
Great venue. 1st visit and thoroughly enjoyed the show "Bugsy". We will be back.
C. F.
Always a great place to come. Staff jolly and the overall atmosphere amazing
J. I.
A great theatre, very good show. Seats a bit squashed together. Friendly staff .
p. c.
Love the theatre. Very beautiful inside, true to its "grand" name. Has toilets on every floor and a bar. Has lifts for easy access as there are a lot of stairs. Will be returning again.
K. D.
Very well organised, staff really friendly and helpful especially bar staff. Show exceptional, would certainly recommend a visit soon.
G. F.
As always a pleasure! What a performance too - 3 performances actually!! Love going every time.
Slightly disappointed by the staff asking people to wait outside for taxi's and lifts while there was a blizzard outside. Come on guys bigger picture!
T. M.
I love Leeds Grand Theatre. They present a varied range of operas, plays and musicals throughout the year catering for all age groups and tastes.
Opera North, in particular, put on some brilliant operas with some superb principal performers and choruses. However, the acclamation should go to the superlative Opera North orchestra who are a delight to hear on every occasion.
M. B.
Lovely staff, beautiful theatre, amazing show (Jersey Boys).
A. W.
Very nice theatre but not very easy access driving wise to get to with a disabled person when you have to park far away
R. B.
Amazing theatre. We came to see Book of Mormon, a covid delayed birthday present for my wife. She loved it (not really my cup of tea) and the whole experience was great, even though the bar prices were astronomical.
c. s.
Fantastic night the Jersey boys were great very hot in there tro no air con but good night in all
E. R.
Such a beautiful, historic theatre - I cannot recommend it more highly! I've watched brilliant performances by Opera North and Northern Ballet, and the acoustics are excellent. Additionally, the staff are friendly, the facilities clean, and most areas are accessible/have lift access. They also have lots of extra events on like discussion panels, kid-friendly events, comedy shows, etc. It is such a versatile venue and a wonderful part of Leeds Culture. Treat yourself!
S. S.
I visited here to see my daughtert in carmen, this venue is absolutely amazing, the theatre is beautiful the old days knee how to build thing better, the decor is amazing the whole place is amazing
J. D.
Great theatre shame the seats aren't a bit more comfortable
R. H.
Fabulous performance of Fishermen's Friends. Good bar staff.
M. F.
Great experience, cozy theatre, good views from the dress circle and good acoustic.
J. P.
Always a warm welcome nice atmosphere in a beautiful unspoilt theatre. Well done to all involved. Welcome back
1.
Great theatre with friendly staff. The show was very good.
G. S.
A beautiful theatre, unfortunately the Victorians were a great deal smaller than most of us are today so a bit cramped!
L. H.
Came to watch Cluedo. Fabulous- loved it.
M. H.
For a grand theatre, it really was grand! The seats are very comfortable, there's plenty of legroom too and there's a wide variety of refreshments. The toilets are large too so you won't be queueing. Would highly recommend watching a performance here when you can!
J. L.
Audience not allowed into building on a cold evening. Once in had to wait in corridor. No seating plan visible to enable people to know which doorto enter auditorium. I opened door and was shouted at by a member of staff and told to wait in the bar. Three people fell on slippy steps at the side of the auditorium. Not enough seating in bar so corridor outside was crowded. Suggest theatre invests in a cafe which is open well in advance of production and can seat people comfortably. Otherwise an enjoyable production.
B. W.
A gorgeous theatre that puts on a plethora of performances. I have seen comedy gigs, musicals, drama etc etc at this venue, and I always enjoy myself.
Lovely staff, great atmosphere.
S. S.
Excellent show Lost in Music! Brilliant performers, we were dancing and singing in the isles all night.
J. L.
Excellent old time theatre,great productions.
R. W.
Went to see fishermen friends... staff all very helpful. We will be back soon.
J. M.
We went to the matinee to see the Jersey Boys, fantastic production. We really enjoyed ourselves
C. B.
Incredible experience watching The Band Musical away from the performance Leeds Grand is an incredibly impressive building that’s clearly had an outstanding upkeep. Great bars that are reasonably priced. A superb experience
L. B.
Always have a great time here. Such a lovely building too
C. H.
Great show. Good view except for some woman in a hat jumping about in front of me ☹️
M. B.
Went to see solid gold sixty, great bands Went in box C upper circle bit of a restricted view.
S. T.
Watched Les Mis there. Fabulous show in a beautiful theatre.
T. I.
Great venue and amazing shows. A bit small but good acoustics and you are closer to the stage.
D.
Watched an absolutely amazing show today would highly recommend a visit.
A. H.
Went to see the book of mormon - really loved not only the show but the facilities! They had options for snacks for allergies as well which was amazing! Great evening!
T. B.
Went to see Shrek, a fantastic production fun for all the family. Only draw back was at interval, we qued for drinks and had a bell rung in our face saying we needed to go back immediately to our seats. We left with no drinks and did as instructed, only to then wait nearly 15 minutes for the show to then resume! It felt a little premature of them and rude.
G. H.
Great place for live shows ,just seen sixties gold concert
C. P.
What an amazing Theatre, original features, lovely staff, just make sure you get a box. Unbelievable experience
S. z.
I just want to say a massive well done to all the staff at the Grand Theatre especially the staff at the box office. I witnessed them been shouted at and spoken to very rudely by some customers about issues the staff had no control over. Absolutely great show and social distance measures in place.
A massive thank you 😊 I am grateful for your hard work and the staff deserve medals 🏅 xx
M. B.
The Grand Theatre is a lovely place to visit. We went to see Benidorm Live.
It was a brilliant show and the Grand theatre is an ace theatre.
P. J.
What an amazing historical building! Went to see Joseph. What a fantastic show 👌🙂 Entertainment personified
J. C.
Love the grand theatre, the seats have loads of leg room , just a beautiful theatre , just been to see the dream girls and loved it ❤️
R. P.
Nice big theatre. And if people are being rude and talking during the show, the staff have no problems telling them to shut it
H. L.
Loved the atmosphere and the show was amazing. Staff really friendly and helpful.
R. M. F.
I just love this theatre. None of the shows I have seen so far were disappointing. The opera season is always remarkable.
The theatre is close to the city centre. The atmosphere is very nice, staff is helpful, and seats are generally comfortable.
A. B.
Excellent traditional theatre. Good sightlines audience to stage.
D. G.
First time at the Grand excellant show Blood brothers. Woll deginately book again.
R. B.
Absolutely fantastic would recommend to anyone. First time my 12 year old daughter had been to a theatre she could not believe how beautiful it was inside . Thank you for a memory created. Oh yes the show was a major contributing factor thank you the cast of HEATHERS you made a dad and daughter very happy.
Y. L.
Went last month with my family to watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks and had an excellent time enjoying the musical 🎶 💕
D. S.
Saw Alcina yesterday. It was a stunning performance with excellent singers and the usual superb orchestra, even in its cut down form. Staging has had some criticism but was entirely in keeping with the narrative. The back projection fitted well. And most audience members considerately wore face masks. Altogether a most enjoyable evening. Well done Opera North!
D. B.
Went to see Jersey Boys last night - the best musical I have seen in a while. Just Brilliant!!
P. D.
Wonderful building, enjoyed watching South Pacific musical ❤
l. c.
A truly spectacular evening at the opera Rigolato. I was cautious about this trip to Opera North as did not enjoy the Carmen interpretation at all. No worries here - the casting, direction, acting and singing were all impeccable. Act 3 was ‘edge of the seat’ stuff and setting it in a seedy end of town added to the atmosphere. I particularly enjoyed the the duets but what an incredible Gilda !
A. S.
Loved it, beautiful venue to watch anything
B. k.
Went to see les miserables great show and venue
C. S.
Steeped in history, super welcoming staff & a brilliant show 'Grease' amazing young artists.
g.
Really lovely theatre, watched Blood Brothers which was superb.
S. G.
Lovely theatre.
Friendly staff.
Great show.
J. G.
Exceptional evening with the help of very polite tkt office and stewards within the Theatre itself.
R. D.
Nice theatre, in generally good condition. Seats not bad but not great and probably ready for a refurb. Noticed a few people fidgeting. Toilets and bar etc OK, and staff all really pleasant.
K. R.
Well worth a visit to see a show staff are lovely helpful and pleasant we went to see rocky horror show I would definitely go to see another show here
J. B.
Very enjoyable evening staff very friendly and helpful . Great show
A. J.
Went to see Derren Brown. The theatre is well kept and staff are welcoming.
S. M.
Lovely old theatre, not too large, well worth a visit.
J. P.
Such a beautiful theatre. Thoroughly enjoyed watching Jersey Boys.
p. w.
Great time had. You can not beat live entertainment. Do not miss
D. B.
Beautiful little theatre...upgraded for free so had an excellent view of Dream Girls....
A. L.
Stunning, from the stained glass bar windows, original features to the lovely staff. Fabulous theatre with a fantastic varied line up of shows
T. M.
Delightful theatre, seeped in history. A true feast upon which to set the eyes. Very good sound-system. Recommended to all lovers of the Arts.
J. A.
Been here a few times in the last 6 months, absolutely gorgeous theatre. Staff nice. Wish the ice cream lady would come down the aisle with a tray of cornettos though
A. P.
Great venue to see a show. Everything is straightforward and being able to order drinks for the intermission is a great choice.
K. M.
Visited for first time with family members to watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks .
Fantastic show .
Lovely old theatre , like stepping back in time , friendly helpful staff and a bar area .
Amenities slightly limited due to Covid restrictions but the experience was very positive .
We would all visit again .
J. S.
Great Theatre..Grease was fantastic..
Unfortunately disappointed
With the ladies WC area, not clean at all. Ordered our wine at the bar for intermission ( Emerald Bar) unfortunately the cap would not open, staff were not helpful at all, ended up taking the bottle home!
z. E.
I wanted to say a big 'Thank you' to a lovely usher we met on the 9th Dec 2021. She is 'Mariyah'. So helpful , smiling even at very busy times and keeps patron's satisfaction on top of the agenda.
My daughter and I were moved by her kindness. Thanks Mariyah !
The venue is amazing as always and all the performers and crew are so talented.
E. W.
saw joseph and his amazing technicolour dreamcoat, it was very good and the theatre is a very interesting building
p. T.
Fantastic venue backed up by a great act in Derren Brown
L. I.
Fabulous venue in the city to watch some amazing productions that never disapppont.
J. B.
There is definitely Something about Jamie. Fabulous show, amazing cast. This was the first of 8 shows we have coming up in the next year. Live theatre is back - and not before time !
S. M.
Beautiful theatre, seats are a bit snug
W. P.
Well organised nice experience. Could have left theatre doors open during performance to improve air circulation. It got very hot inside at the upper levels
G. W.
Le Mis Great show lovely theatre.
D. W.
Loved it. Les miserables
Fantastic. Xx
A. H.
Excellent performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Lovely staff.
J. M.
Lovely traditional theatre with a great stage
views and atmosphere. Very similiar to London's west end type theatres
Y. Y.
Awesome!! We went to see Everybody's talking about Jamie. It was very very busy but we'll organized, although it's the first time we had to queue all the way past the back stage door we were seated in plenty of time for the show.
M. R.
A spectacular theatre providing live shows. Of course with all theatres ratings depend upon the shows you see. However, Leeds Grand theatre is a breath taking building, and the shows are usually top notch. Support live theatre and see a show at this beautiful building.
P. K.
Fab performance of Dreamgirls tonight. Grand old theatre still staging great performances and shows
K. F.
Excellent show! A bit chilly though.
P. B.
Sorry but I can sit in a pub with no mask on for 2 hrs but I can't sit I a performance where there isn't a single person within 14 seats either way?? This is the venues choice which is fine I follow rules. I like the sort through different doors. As for ordering drinks and food in an interval I saw a girl walking round and round with ice cream trying to find the app place. Better app maybe.
J. P.
Blood brothers was amazing. Theatre staff fantastic and friendly.
J. R.
Beautiful venue and great performance. Staff are warm and friendly, only comment was it was a hot day and the hallways were to hot.
I. D.
Great show. Comfortable seats. Good view
H. Z.
Saw Ed gamble live, great venue, great show!
X. I.
I went to see Carmen last night 21/10/21 brilliant performance though it was a modern twist on the story I do recommend this to anyone even if you don't like Opera there are English subtitles on two tv screens
The Grand itself is a wonderful lovely building and as far as I can tell is original and the staff are very helpful and friendly and great service. I love seeing shows here and I'm glad to get back to The Grand Theatre, I've missed going due to covid19 they ask you to wear a mask if you can. But they don't force you.
J. M.
Lovely old fashioned theatre it was a pleasure
P. S.
Lovely show, beautiful theatre fantastic company
G. R.
Went to see Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat. Amazing show with decent prices.
M. L.
Les Miserables what can l say
AMAZING 👏 FANTASTIC
K. G.
A lovely family visit to enjoy the imaginative theatrical interpretation of Bedknobs & Broomsticks. My nieces two children sat enthralled & were blown away with a bed that floated in the air! Thanks to theatres
J. C.
Went to see Jane Mcdonald which had been put off twice. She was absolutely brilliant. Packed theatre as well but her performance and her personality was awesome. She got a bit emotional in a couple of songs which you would expect with her loss but would definitely go see her again.
S. C.
Beautiful old theatre..Staff helpful ..2 nice size bars .
D. S.
Fabulous venue, fantastic staff.
The Theatre had to quickly reorganize seating due to covid rule change, our seats were pretty much where we booked them. Food and drinks could be ordered on the app. Wow great service, arrived within 5 mins of payment.
G. B.
Just a fantastic building. Staff are amazing
A. B.
Great to be back in live theatre again. Theatre is a lovely building that lives up to its name.
Take advantage of the pre drinks booking system to make life easier when you visit. You can pre book drinks up to 10 minutes before the show starts so there is a QR code you can scan at the theatre.
M.
Lovely venue, reasonable ticket prices and small enough to be well seated no matter where your tickets
E. P. W. (.
Just love the theatre and this one is at the top of the list
A. P.
Fantastic old theatre. Great to see live shows again.
N. W.
We had the best night ever here watching the west end musical Kinky Boots. Would highly recommend others to go and see it.
A.
Great place, great atmosphere, cracking shows. What is not to like.
S. M.
Had an absolutely fabulous time at the Leeds Grand Theatre on 30th December 2021, what a beautiful setting for bedknobs and broomsticks. The cast and set design were fantastic. Thank you x
l. o.
Amazing proformance, good production, comfy seat with great view
R. S.
Seats are narrow but leg room is good for such an old theatre. As long as there isnt a pillar in the way the any seat has an acceptable view of the stage
A. G.
Built in 1878 this theatre reflects what was good in its day. Today it looks astonishing with its ornate design. Compared to a more modern theatre access can be difficult although the viewing is good
D. S.
I saw 'Carmen' and loved it. It's many years since I was in the Grand and it was absolutely lovely to be there again. The building is beautiful and the staff welcoming and helpful. I'll be checking the schedule and looking forward to my next visit.
D. M.
Good range of shows throughout the year. Just wish there were more boxes available for that extra special touch to a theatre evening ☺️
G. B.
Great theatre with outstanding decoration.
I. J.
Brilliant stunning place. Staff are great and sooo helpful.
N. H.
Superb show great theatre.
J. R.
We had a fabulous night at The Grand. Everything was well organised and ran very smoothly with the covid restrictions. The show was brilliant very uplifting and the band with the live music was excellent. Well done everyone.
A. W.
Everything about the experience was 5 stars enjoyed the day
B. B.
I went to see lost in the music ,it was fantastic haven't danced so much in a long time .
A. G.
Great evening but the theatre was uncomfortably warm
R.
A beautiful theatre very well maintained. Loved the quirky volunteers.
M. S.
Beautiful and big Theatre in the city centre with a great variety of shows, in particular ballets and musicals. Average prices (balconies are quite cheap and the view is good)
R. D.
Jersy boys.oh what a night,.great show don't miss it
D. S.
The show was amazing so well done. What an amazing production and acting crew!!!
The venue was well organised and I felt COVID safe with all the precautions in place.

P. S.
Lovely old theatre,fantastic atmosphere
M. S.
Great Building with real atmosphere ! We watched the Northern Ballet Perform Beauty and the Beast there. Worth a visit .
s. s.
SIX The Musical. My 14yo sez it was the best night of her life and I thoroughly enjoyed it too. Staff were fabulous.
d. d. h.
My daughter and I had a Fabulous night watching Grease last night As I am hard of hearing I struggle in a theatre hearing The personal service given to me by Jessica in the Foyer who helped me and Ian the Manager who not only provided me with a hearing loop but came to where I was seating and made sure it worked It made my experience so much more enjoyable Everything was so Covid safe in the Theatre A Brilliant night first night out in 18 months Thank you
A. M.
A really nice theatre. Came here to see dirty dancing on stage. Absolutely no hassle getting in, parking nearby, reasonably priced refreshments and more importantly, a brilliant selection of shows from the west end.
Definitely a nice theatre inside, seeing the architecture inside is wonderful. It's so aesthetically pleasing. The staging of dirty dancing was incredible! The set was really nice and fairly realistic
H. C.
Brilliant venue. A must visit. The decor is lovely
K. R.
Brilliant location and stunning interior.
R. H.
Lovely old theatre. Lovely staff.
M. J.
Lovely staff. Relaxed, intimate feeling theatre.
P. B.
Howard Rooms makeover good. Looking forward to restaurant/bar opening. Caitlin Finch and Seckou Keita superb
R. M.
Nice plave to see a dhow, comfortable decesnt carpark about five mind away
s. i.
Great theatre. Good size and decent sound.
R. H.
It's all about the show you're seeing really. I've seen phantom of the opera here and book of morman's. Both were fantastic.
R. B.
Beautiful theatre, a bit cramped for the larger gentleman, especially when sat next to another random larger gentleman. Book of Mormon was really good.
L. D.
It is a lovely place. Organised very well. But bar prices are expensive.
M. C.
Parking and arriving close enough by car is always a challenge in Leeds. Added to this, roadworks directly in front of the theatre funnelled people close together on the pavements making it gard to get through to collect tickets and prepaid programmes from another entrance. Whilst the performance was pleasant those arriving late (many arrived for 7.30 without realising it started at 7) entered during the show to some noisy seat banging noises. Hence the 3 stars
M. S.
Beautiful theatre with excellent views from almost all seats. Dress Circle row a offers uninterrupted views.
I. G.
Great theatre with brilliant staff. Some seats could be more padded and comfortable with more legroom but overall I love Leeds Grand Theatre.
P. H.
14/7/
Went to see Joseph and was Brilliant ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ superb cast .....
K. O.
Great show, really enjoyed it. The tickets were bought for my Christmas present (last year).
Worth waiting to see, the cast we're really good. Top marks. The only reason for 4 stars was my wife said that the ladies could do with a refurb.
T. T.
Was here for jane mcdonald good night friendly helpful staff
E. S.
Loved the Grand Theatre, great view from the Stalls, generous comfy seats with lots of leg room.
S. B.
Amazing staff and facilities. Took a group of school students and the team made it so simple to do- will definitely look to plan another trip!!
c. m.
Joseph was absolutely fabulous. Brilliant cast.
A. G.
Top show Lost in music great atmosphere everyone up dancing
G. P.
Lovely old theatre comfortable seats nice bar area friendly helpful staff 5* venue
D. W.
Beautiful old theatre that hosts some fantastic shows. Even on the top tiers you get a good view of the stage and if you are higher up, you get a better view of the massive chandelier. Win win? There are bars too for drinks and nibbles and of course, ice cream. Enjoy.
N. A.
Love it here, really special feel in the building that feels like it holds a lot of history.
The main room can get extremely warm, although there are some , what look like fans under the chairs. There's a bar, with a wide range of beverages and snacks to enjoy too.
Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for something a bit different to do in the afternoon / evening. Really enjoyable day,.
V. D.
Lovely theatre but do wonder why they decided to do away with a centre aisle. Can't imagine how they would cope if the theatre had to be evacuated. The staff are very pleasant and helpful.
The air conditioning is pretty well non existent and in this hot humid weather people were fanning themselves in order to try to keep cool.
H. I.
Lovely theatre. Crowded on entry and exit but that is due to the original building. Helpful staff.
m. l.
Lovely old theatre but seating very comfortable and plenty of leg room. Saw king and i - wow superb set, full on show. The asian cast brought a new dimension and the cultural aspects, dancing and messages really made this different.
J. W.
Been numerous times & never tire of visiting..great times🥳
C. G.
Amazing venue loved the show.
A. T.
Never been to a theatre before, my daughter paid for me to see Dirty Dancing. I loved every minute, really good show and atmosphere, comfy seats and not bad leg room, had a few drinks in the bar, everyone looked to be enjoying themselves. Can't wait to go again! 👏
R. E.
👏👏👏🖐️ totally ENCHANTING, the little ones melted my heart from the moment they appeared. The performance's were outstanding, never missed a beat, and voices of Angels. I can't wait till it returns, the cast obviously enjoy performing the show, you could see the chemistry between them. 👏👏👏
D.
We were here on the evening of Tuesday 6th November to see the Motown the musical Show. A lovely old theatre with very helpful staff, good facilities and it was a full house with a great atmosphere. The show was fabulous with great voices from all the singers and great acting from all the characters in it. A very enjoyable evening for all.
C. M.
Professional courteous staff, very patient but do not hesitate to ask people to put their phones away during the performances - great! Good facilities, may be old but comfy theatre hosting amazing shows. A real gem of a theatre.
A. H. (.
Fantastic theatre. Brilliant staff and interior is lovely. We had a great time and we would definitely come back. There is ample space in the seats and everything is very well organised. Even the bar wasn't terribly busy.
A. L.
Beautiful theatre, fabulous shows, friendly and professional staff, very clean, toilets available which again are very clean. Snacks and drinks available.
A. G.
There are some really good productions being shown in this theatre. If you are under 30 - subscribe to Opera North newsletter as they give discounts for under 30. The venue itself is very beautiful. It is not the biggest opera house and the atmosphere feels more friendly. They have screens that show subtitles, but I found that they were located not in the most convenient places - our seats were close to the middle, but I still had to turn my head all the time when I was reading subtitles. The sound of the orchestra was very good and vocal abilities of the actors were great. A good and pleasant experience overall.
a. c.
Very elegant and a great experience, I never been before and I wasn't really looking forward to it. As soon as the show started I started to enjoy it, better than watching TV.
I must say I am nòw planning to go back in 2019 with my own family because it's an experience I never had as a child.
At least try it once and see how you react to live entertainment.
W. C.
Great show as always, ordered drinks for the interval, very organised.
R. G.
Been tonight to see Chicago. Lovely venue but the show wasn't very loud
J. B.
Lovely theatre, I've visited several times and the shows are fabulous. However, I do think their ticket prices for the not so good seats - balcony and upper balcony in particular - are exorbitant. Price difference with stalls was only £8 but the seats and space is no where near as comfortable or roomy. A bit money grabbing I fear 😠 The group's decision; if we can't get seats in the stalls or dress circle we're not going! Potential loss of business here Leeds Grand, take note.
t. s.
The venue was fantastic, the staff were lovely, the show was good enough. The night was ruined a little by the lack of a policy on children. One family had a baby and a toddler that was too young for ballet cried, stamped and ran around.
N. H.
Ornate decoration, loved watching the opera.
m. w.
I was lucky enough to watch SIX last night after cancellations due to the pandemic. What a fabulous show, highly recommend, the singing and performances were exceptional. The Grand theatre was an outstanding host
S. S.
2nd wonderful experience this year.Lovely old fashioned theatre with friendly efficient staff.Cluedo and Chicago great !!
J. B.
Saw cats here with my wife. Is old building with clearly a lot of history. Good stage setup a high end production. Everyone was friendly enough aswell. Could do with an updated bar area as it does feel a little working men's club. The show was well produced and enjoyable.
R. R.
Excellent afternoon at the Grand watching Les Miserables.
C. W.
Beautiful theatre that gets decent sized acts playing there. There are bars and toilets on each level, and a lift for disable access.
The seats are pretty old fashioned flip down ones, so not comfy for long performances, and leg room is pretty poor.
J. W.
Went to see Heathers the musical tonight and it was amazing! The cast were fantastic and the theatre staff were great as always. Looking forward to coming back
D. C.
A great building historic theatre beautiful decor ceiling is amazing. Our balcony view to stage was fantastic we were on the front row aa 46 and 47. We missed food etc on way in as we were only just on time, but got into the bar and served quickly at the interval also got I ream relatively quickly at only £2 a pot beats cinemas hands down. A great night a good show a nice theatre. As ever with old buildings new seating better leg room but huge investment eh, so patience.
A. B.
Honestly, a trip to the theatre is always a treat. I'm sure the seats have got more comfortable too.
D. H.
Normally a 5 star but last night was a 3 star as we had to share a box with another unrelated party. Didn't feel over covid safe and would have preferable if we'd been contacted 1st
m. g.
Enjoyed the show seats a bit small but then again we were in the cheap seats
J. H.
Superb theatre, brilliant view to the stage, sound excellent. Staff go out of their way to be helpful. Easy access for wheelchairs and good views.
Sweets and ice creme are expensive.

Went to see lovely show postponed with Covid . every one staff lovely lots of hand sanitizer places .had to wear masks unless eating or drinking, most did .
O. P.
Fantastic experience and the show was just out of this world. We went to see bedknocka and broomsticks and I am still wondering how they pulled it all off.
L. M.
1st time visiting and the show was amazing. The building is lovely the staff friendly. Would go again
P. M.
Came to watch a ballet of beauty and the beast. The venue has a real old school vintage theatre feel to it. Pros the seats give you a good view of the show and sound quality is also great. Cons the seats are not the most comfortable and drink prices are high.
P. H.
Old fashioned but very nice recommend

So.......Cabaret. Frankly, think it was the best theatre experience I've ever had!! The show was AMAZING! The cast fabulous and the production brilliant! Seriously emotional and thought provoking. Just wonderful- go and see it!x
S. A.
Nice venue. Please have more events and a wider range of menu if possible.
R. M.
Great performance of "we will rock you". I'm on crutches at the moment so the floor level lift was appreciated. Beautiful theatre and very comfy seating.
V. P.
It was good to see a live performance again. The staff at the theatre were excellent providing reassurance of a safe environment at these challenging times.
R. M.
Always a lovely experience at this fantastic and intimate theatre. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
The decor is amazing and really turns the evening into a wonderful experience, regardless of the show you are seeing - the show is an added bonus!
C. C.
Very nice venue. Particularly liked it when someone on the balcony dropped a drink on to some poor woman below. Bar and snacks are priced ridiculously high. £10 for 2 bottles, £5 for 2 tiny tubs of ice cream.
B. I.
Went to watch Chicago after being at plasa for the morning,
Very friendly staff and was a great performance, only downside is the seating, it's very cramped together with little leg space
M. B.
Last night was my first visit to the Leeds grand theatre. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole atmosphere, everyone seemed so friendly. There were a couple of small bar areas (we didn't use them), ice creams and chocolates were on sale. Not sure what they do with disabled visitors who are in wheelchairs as there are quite a few steps and stairways. I would visit again.
N. P.
A lovely old theatre with impressive molding and paint work on the ceilings. Shows are a mix of touring West end shows and musicals along with local fare such as Northern Opera and Northern Ballet. Uncomfortable seats though!
J. B.
Lovely old traditional theatre. The staff couldn't have been kinder. My friend was taken ill before an earlier performance which was then missed. The box office staff came to help and also got us in for another day. Brilliant and thank you all.

Good variety of shows.
Gorgeous decoration inside and beautiful chandeliers.
However steps are very steep to the balconies and railings don't go all the way along.
Also the bar is very expensive for pre show drinks. Eg)£5.20 for two cans of coke.

Two Amazing Shows Motown and Jersey Boys

Beautiful theatre, friendly staff

This theatre is amazing. Beautiful repisentation of our Victorian history. Most seats have a good view and it is reasonable prices. Staff are friendly and professional and the entry and exit always runs smoothly. The break can be busy but there are plenty of points to get refreshments, only downside is queing for the ladies but can't be helped.
The productions are always fab, beautifully and cleaverly put together, they make you feel you are the only person present when they glance out into the crowd.
Would highly recommend this place to share with family and friends.

Great traditional Theatre!! Loads of places to park nearby. Went to watch Escape to the Chateau which was brilliant!!
K. R.
Such a beautiful theatre. The decor is gorgeous. We sat in the upper circle, which was more spacious than the balcony and the seats were comfy. It is such a beautiful theatre with top performances.
A. B.
It's OK, we've been twice this summer and it got very hot inside. It does not appear to have air conditioning and I was sweating behind my knees considerably. Lovely building décor, excellent location and great lounge bar on the first floor.
C. U.
Really helpful staff in the box office...all booked to see Joseph😁😁
N. F.
We went see the jersey boys which was amazing and highly recommended to anyone. The problem i had was as a large man the seating was so uncomfortable to tthe point of at the interval i had to leave my seat and went in search of something more comfortable. I was ever willing to stand for the rest of the performance as the seats were that bad for me personally .
R. W.
Brilliant atmosphere and that qas just in the bar. Photo is Beverly Callard in the Rocky Horror Show
R. S.
Well organised, front of house staff very welcoming and helpful. And enjoyed a superb performance.
N. S.
Nice building but needs air conditioning as it gets very warm in the auditorium. Great shows. Facilities a little dated but it is a listed building so probably limited as to what they can do. Would go again when next event I want to see visits.
N. M.
Went to see blood brothers, the staff could be friendlier and the seats a better standard... I've back issues and to sit in those sits for as long as I had to caused me real problems... the show it's self was really great. I suggest taking your own drinks, £2.60 for a can of coke was ridiculous...
T. D.
Loved it, went to see Joseph & it was brilliant.
C. L. P.
Great Parsifal and Gurnamanz but Kundry stole the show.
Fab evening.
H. K.
Always absolutely red hot in here No matter what time of year you go. Make sure you dress for the warmth. Also recommend pre-ordering your interval drinks - saves so much time and you can relax while every else queues for the bar.
K. B.
Staff were really friendly and helpful. Venue was gorgeous
B.
Visited to watch benidorm the show. Had a fab time, could have done with a few more snack options at bar. Drink options grill, bit pricey. Have visited before and will visit again. Lovely if your a theatre goer!
C. C.
Nice building could do with air conditioning as it gets very warm in the auditorium. Brilliant shows. Facilities a little dated but it is a listed building so probably limited as to what they can do. I Would visit again when the next event I would like to see visits.

Gorgeous theatre, years since I've been. House On Cold Hill, good actors, could have been more spooky, such a shame Rita Simons couldn't be there tonight - I booked months ago, unbelievable, the 1 night...
A. B.
Lovely old theatre - a jewel in the crown of Leeds. Victorian and beautifully restored throughout. You can get a drink in the original bars, still with the old tiles and stained glass - and the performance was pretty good too! A lovely night out.
K. W.
I found it to have somewhat tired and dated furnishings and to be a little cramped. The toilet facilities are inadequate for purpose in full theatre, so it's best to 'go' before you arrive. The theatre has a pleasant ambience about it.
o. a.
A lovely nice place to see great shows. Great staff and facilities
M. P.
A wonderful old theatre. On this visit we saw "Shrek the Musical". Unfortunately, I wasn't blown away with the performance, which was disappointing as I had heard such positive reviews, my wife however did enjoy it but she hasn't seen the film. On previous visits we were wowed with the performances such as "Wicked" and "Calendar Girls". We will be returning. 😁
P. W.
Great place and has great venues
We went to watch Paul Smith who was an outstanding comedian
Downside the price of drinks which worked out at £4 for an half can of larger and £2 for a half can of coke
But we will still continue to go venues here
Lovely friendly staff always ready to help
L. I.
I haven't actually been to the theatre yet, but when booking tickets I experienced some difficulties. I emailed the box office and they were incredibly helpful. Got a response very quickly and they sorted everything out. The member of staff who dealt with me (Susan) was very professional and friendly. Thanks very much!
V. M.
This was our first visit since lockdown began, I must say to everyone one involved a huge thank you you all should be applauded for the efforts made to make the evening flawless. We can not wait to visit again
L. B.
Excellent show Jersey Boys.
Staff friendly
J. S.
During my time at the Grand, it was the miracle of my day and the well acted out comedy-like play(Nativity the musical) was flowing with talent. The actors and actresses played their roles well, the whole place was well looked after and everything was worth coming to see; I can't wait to go again!
M. G.
A Leeds classic. Astonishing decor following refurb. Friendly staff. The bar gives you the feeling you'll never get served, but the staff are quick and observant with fast turnaround. Seats well structured - I'm quite tall - 6'2", but have plenty of legroom. And I always try to check if I'm blocking the view of the person behind me it's never been a problem.
Of course your enjoyment will depend on what you go see - but my wife and I go here a few times a year and always float out on a high.
K. A.
Had a fabulous time watching Bedknobs and Broomsticks as a nice pre Chriatmas treat. Staff was polite and professional and the show was brilliant.
M. S.
We will rock you - superb production. The whole cast were top drawer. Special mentions for the band and set design - absolute class. Live entertainment at it's best ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
j. b.
The theatre is delightful & such a lovely old building has a lovely atmosphere. The production of Wicked was amazing. Great singing & acting with fab stage sets. Definitely recommend.

Leeds Grand Theatre is a theatre and opera house in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It was built in 1878 and seating capacity is about 1500. The overall impression is Victorian Grendeur. At the entrance the house staff after checking the tickets provides the direction of seat. Seating arrangement and sound system are good. The architecture and interior design are beautiful. On 06/12/18 myself and family members enjoyed " The Nut Cracker Ballet" . We really enjoyed the beautiful performance of Northern Ballet.
R.
I've been here three times in the recent past and had a great time on every visit. Very helpful staff (on the whole). One recommendation to the venue is to have someone in the steps making it clear to people if they have to queue up in a certain place because they have paper tickets or not!
S. S.
A fabulous evening here in what can only be described as glorious surroundings. It was my first time to Leeds Grand Theatre to watch Oper North's production of Tosca, however that's not what my review is about. I always wondering anticipation of what a theatre may look like inside, will it give me that feeling of excitement for what lies in store. Will the surroundings add gravitas to the production? And I have to say yes it does, it made dressing in my finest all the more worthwhile, no complaints, and will most definitely be crossing the pennies to visit again.
M. R.
This theatre is very old, very grand and nothing less than magical. Went to see 'We will rock you' which was truly amazing. Nice to see that the theatre has been kitted out with modern stage equipment, whilst still keeping it's oldy worldly charms. I've been to Broadway shows in New York, but those theatres have nothing on Leeds Grand.
Also, (correct at time of posting) the Manahatta restaurant a couple doors down gave us a tasty 30% discount off our food bill for showing them our theatre tickets, nice bit of pre-show grub.
N. B.
Watched a great show in a great theatre.
M. W.
Best refurbished old theatre
A. C.
Always an excellent show when i go to the grande and been going for quite a few years
B. J.
Fantastic meal friendly staff.
d. g.
Really nice old building very friendly staff bar prices reasonable and a great show!!
P. W.
Motown the musical was both educational and entertaining. Surprising how many songs we could remember. Grand Theatre looks fabulous though more ladies toilets would be a good improvement.
L. B.
Beautiful venue, great location and the staff are really friendly
S. K.
Went to see Benidorm which was brilliant want to see it again. But this review is for the theatre we was on the top tier right to back. When i booked the tickets over the phone i was made to understand we was on the second tier. I dont like heights it was very daunting. So for that 3 stars. But dont let this put you off its still a lovely old theatre. If you don't like height make sure its not the top tier.
L. C.
First time I have booked stall seats at this venue, but so glad I did. There is so much more leg room than sitting in the dress circle. Will book stalls only from now on!
J. O.
Really good , always enjoy it here . My only moan is that the seats are uncomfortable after a while but its worth it
K. D.
Great seats for an amazing performance of School of Rock! Definitely recommend.
F. K.
I love this theatre, it's got a great mix of old and new. They've updated the auditorium seating so it's more spacious but kept the Victorian decor. The staff are always friendly and helpful.
A. L.
One of the original classic theatres in the UK. Great atmosphere and choice of shows.

Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat!
S. S.
Easily located at the top end in central Leeds. Great online booking system. Has some big name actors/actresses, good selection of shows, comedies, plays and northern ballet which can get well booked up especially at Christmas and matinee shows. Helpful staff and various price points.
J. S.
Attended 30th March to watch the full monty but became too hot and had to come out before the half time interval. Staff were brilliant, very attentive, gave me water and a chair. After everyone had gone back in after the interval they found me an end isle seat by the exit door which had a breeze coming in and enabled me to still see the show. Well done and a massive thankyou to the staff who went out of their way to help me.
B. H.
Love the grand great performance they ask people to wear face coverings but disappointed that less than half complied, its not a lot to ask if we want things to open.....
K. O.
A really nice theatre, been a few times to see a variety of different things and have never left disappointed with the venue.
A small bar but the staff serve you really quickly and you can order drinks for the interval that will be waiting for you.
G. L.
Saw Beautiful here. Awful creaky chairs ruined the experience, nobody sits still the whole time so it was like an orchestra of awfulness throughout the whole show! Also, we were sat at the back of the stalls and so right in front of the technicians and they were distracting too, noisy! Those seats to be avoided and surely should be cheaper?
A. K.
Had to book a premiere afternoon show as Wicked had totally sold out. Deffo going back, brought back great memories from my childhood. Had isle seats as friend ill but wouldn't recommend it as alot was covered by speakers. Amazing all the same.
c. h.
Had a fantastic time at the Fat friends musical afternoon matinee with my good friend. The theatre is amazing and the musical was even more amazing than we expected. Once again Kay Mellor gives us a five star experience. Laughs from beginning to end
E. H.
Love this theatre but do object to paying booking fees when getting tickets from the booking office as I understand it, the service fee (also called booking fee) is what's added to the ticket price by the agent to "cover their costs". I understand paying these if going through an agent such Ticket Master but not if I physically go to the theatre box office to purchase my tickets
J. W.
Packed the chairs in so not much leg or arm room next to people you don't know. Otherwise, great antique gem in the city!
A. S.
I am proud to call this place my local theatre that I visit frequently! I'm disabled and it's very easy to access and all the staff are lovely! I've had many happy times and memories each and every show I've seen there!
H. S.
Great theatre, amazing FOH staff and a great range of shows available for all
P. D.
Went to see Nativity the Musical on the 29th of December 2017 front rows seats but I had an onset of saticar couldn't sit down so I had to stand throughout the show the manager came up and said I could stand at the back with the option of a pull out seat to see if I could seat for a short period of time.
The show was absolutely brilliant (lot better than Annie in the West end) and all the staff we're fantastic will definitely go back when there's another show we like are on.
Well done the Grand your a credit to Yorkshire.
J. O.
Excellent place to visit, still has the old time atmosphere, enjoy every visit. The staff are always welcoming and friendly.
The only bad thing is the pricing could do with lowering and the £3 charge they put on for each ticket although people only do one one transaction is a rip off and needs changing, if not by them then the banks and or government should step in and stop all institutions that do this unacceptable charging
J. A.
Fantastic night. Staff good, show brilliant. Seats at the back of the stalls not as good as where we usually sit. View not as good because floor not as sloping, so person in front restricts view mor. Didn' spoil a great night though.
