Reviews of The Spa At Oulton Hall

Great Spa and Gym. Good sized pool, hot spa, Sauna and Steam Room. Sauna really hot which was good, and Steam Room really steamy and warm too. Decent sized Gym with enough equipment and free weights

£89 Serenity Spa Day at Oulton Hall included a 50minute treatment, 2 course lunch and use of facilities.
The spa is marketed more on the luxury side (or at least that is how it appeared from spa break websites). The pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room were all of good quality, however what made the experience "fine" rather than "good" was the lack of seating or ability to relax by the pool. There was a relaxation room which was intended to be used only after your treatment however we snuck in early to actually find some restful space and somewhere to sit (putting your feet up during kid-free moments is a must!) It was completely empty, nice enough and comfortable. A lot of natural light but very chilled.
Spa lunch held in the main restaurant was average. It was a buffet, not what i was expecting, with salads that were "fine", a selection of slightly stale buns, soup that was actually quite tasty and scones which were also "fine".
The treatment itself was...you guessed it..."fine". I had the Rebalancing Ritual, an express facial and foot ritual that was intended to last 50 min. It lasted about 40min. The beauty therapist was 3 minutes late, then she had to chat and check my consultation form. Once ready and lying down she began. It felt like she was going through the motions - the end of the day, possibly last treatment. I felt like my feet were being stroked rather than massaged and everything felt rushed rather than relaxing.
I wasn't planning on saying anything to reception however after the other half said that his treatment was really good (Fit For Business Treatment - back exfoliation, back, neck, shoulder, calf massage and mask. He actually suggests a name change of Back to Business - they have missed a good pun!) I was obviously jealous and a little frustrated.
They dealt with my queries very well and discounted my experience. Receiving the discount definitely made the afternoon more value for money. I just can't decide whether I would have preferred a decent experience from the start - which is what I was looking forward to - rather than an in hindsight experience.
So if you want a spa day that is "fine" Oulton Hall Spa is the place to go.

Beautiful design of the hotel, decent room sizes but rooms could be a bit more modern. Food really tasty, jhmust portion could be a bit bigger but can't complain. Beautiful area, nice to rlax. Golf club mates this place even more interesting. I'll come back here definitely again.

We had an absolutely fab pamper day here. The facilities were clean, well kept and really pleasant to relax in. The staff were friendly, helpful and polite and the treatments were wonderful. I'd recommend here to anyone.

The spa was fantastic, there were a variety of facilities to utilise, all of which were clean and well maintained. We didn't utilise the gym and mainly spent time in the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, with the exception of when we had our scheduled massage.
Elemis massage was around 50 minutes with the remaining ten minutes spent on a questionnaire/consultation, preparation and changing clothes. After your hour session, there's some time in the relaxation room which you could stay as long as you wanted to rehydrate and chill out. Massage was very good, I tried the back massage and my partner had the back and face massage, during which she fell asleep because she was so relaxed. During the consultation and massage they ask you if you're comfortable with the intensity, so you can customise it to be more gentle or deeper tissue.
We stayed a night in Oulton Hall as part of a package, in which the rooms were not as a high standard as the spa in terms of cleanliness and feeling a bit tired (rather than elegantly period decor), however the general hall and gardens were much closer to expectations of grandure and quality. It's important to note in the small print, you are able to access the spa any time on the day before check in and after check out, so don't be hesitant to get there early and leave late.

Staff are delightful and can't do enough to help make your experience great. Would definitely visit again and again, great swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and so much more all included in the price of the rooms.

Lovely hotel. Could do with a bit of updating in areas. Pool and gym were great to use. Staff were friendly and breakfast was yummy
A. D.
Really friendly staff and the equipment is good quality. The pool is a little cool but the spa facilities and changing room are excellent. Will definitely be a regular user

Ii was a lovely break and the people who looked after me were great. It's the first time I have had any treatments and it was very relaxing. The food was lovely and tasty and the room was large with comfy chairs to sit in and all the normal things you would expect such as TV, tea and coffee, iron and ironing board etc.

Went for a Spa day for 2. Staff is welcoming, 50 minutes treatment was good. However the place is in great need of renovation. Spa Bath had tiles missing, changing rooms were freezing. After the treatment we were sent to relaxing room and it was awful, very uncomfortable chairs and room was cold too. Overall not so relaxing. Do not recommend, there are better places for a Spa day

Treatments in the spa we're good but place very difficult to negotiate. Lots of different levels lots of steps and ramps. Lunch was very poor indeed.

The massage was amazing and the facilities clean and hygienic.
BUT my friends day was marred with a broken shower (had to use one in changing rooms down stairs and across long corridoors) and her heated massage table was broken. At these prices I expect equipment to work.
The lunch was delicious, but badly let down by disinterested staff. We had to ask 3 times for our prosecco, twice for cutlery between courses, good job we chose salad as it took a good 5 minutes to appear, whilst staff chatted at the bar and I had to search someone out for our dessert.
Very poor service indeed.
On leaving as we said goodbye, there were 3 members of staff at the small reception, not one of them lifted their heads to either acknowledge or respond.
Overall we prefer to spend our money with other establishments because of the levels of care and attention we received outside of the massage.

The massage and facial were absolutely amazing, but the steam room and jacuzzi were not working when I went. Also the drinking fountain outside the sauna wasn't working so was a pain having to ask for water. When we asked staff for water they seemed unaware that the fountain wasn't working and confused why we were asking them for water, despite a sign being up above the fountain explaining it didn't work...

Fantastic spa experience and facilities. We had 2 treatments each and came out totally relaxed. Beautiful location too and easily accessible from the motorway.

I booked a spa day for myself and my partner a month or two in advance of a date, and called a day in advance to double check a few things. It took approx 20 minutes of calling before I got through to anyone, which was frustrating. At the end of the call, I was informed that they had no slippers and I had to bring my own, which makes me wonder how they planned to let me know had I not called?! Why did I have to call the spa for them to tell me this? It is clear by the many people in the spa walking barefoot, that they hadn't notified anyone who hadn't taken upon themselves to call them.
When we arrived at 10am we were seen to quite quickly, the lady on reception advised of our massage time and showed us the facilities before we went into the locker rooms. When we returned to reception for our glass of prosecco, we wanted to sit outside to enjoy the nice weather, so the lady took us outside and said she would bring our prosecco to us. After 30 minutes of waiting, we still hadn't received our prosecco and it was almost time for our massage, so we had to walk around the outside of the building back through reception. When the lady saw us, she apologised for the delay and said she was looking for some glasses.
(Bearing in mind that there were only 2 other people in the spa, it was not busy).
The massages however, were fantastic. The heated beds felt great (for my partner it was a bit too warm) but in general cannot fault the massage whatsoever.
The facilities such as the pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi were all great, and the pool was a perfect temperature, not too warm and definitely not too cold!
However the lunch was a let down - we were served our 2 courses - tomato and basil soup for starters, pepperoni pizza and Caesar salad for mains. The soup was nice, however the chicken in the salad was very dry and not flavourful, the croutons were just toast sliced up, and the pizza appeared to have been from the freezer.
Given that it had been described as a light lunch, the options for the mains were not light at all (I.e. 12" pizza) and we couldn't eat it all as we didn't want to feel bloated after a nice, relaxing spa day.
Overall, the massage and facilities were great, but the service was terrible - it was so hard to find someone to help as there was hardly any staff around. We also felt as though we were a burden to the staff, which is not a nice feeling when you know how much money is spent on the day.
Sidenote:
Don't expect to see a nice view of the hall, as you won't see it on your drive up to the spa!
J. W.
Love it here, lovely state of the art new gym equipment, lovely pool and jacuzzi, sauna and steam room
N. F.
Facilities and treatments were lovely
Organisation of the staff and food was basic

What can I say.....Fin was an amazing host. He was there just when we needed him. So professional and so friendly. He made my birthday that bit more special
M. M.
Went with friends on a day visit via discount voucher, upon first foot through door at reception we were treated no differently to full paying visitors , very friendly helpful staff. We had breakfast , lounged in the pool & jacuzzi till our massage ( 1 hr) pure bliss in singular rooms great ambiance and skilled masseuse. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute and would definitely be visiting again .

Went on a guest pass to aqua fit. Class was good however, changing room was lacking. The lockers didn't work, hardly any of them locked and when I found one to lock, it wouldn't open. Decent showers and complimentary fluffy towels were welcome.
P. H.
Very good in terms of staff, cleanliness, pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and towels. Not so good gym equipment with too many old machines, too many broken and too little choice (only one rower and one cross trainer!). Will be back but some easy wins would make it even better.

We've been here twice for a couples retreat. I can't praise the staff enough for their professionalism and just altogether being nice. I love the location too, it's quiet, even when there's been a wedding on, somehow the noise doesn't seem to get out.
Another highly recommended spot.

Was ok,paid £32 for me and my sister. Not really much to do a small swimming pool and a tiny Jacuzzi with a small steam and sauna. The sauna and steam room were not very hot either. Been to better spas and If I had paid anymore money I would have felt very wounded.
S. K.
Heard good things about this place but didn't agree. The pool, steam and sauna rooms were fine. The changing rooms were tired and needed a good round of maintenance. Won't be somewhere I'd return. We went on a Groupon for use of the spa facilities
T. B.
I can strongly recommend the hotel and althought the staff at the spa are nice, I'd avoid. After racing up the motorway to arrive on time, they forgot me and my treatment was 3 hours late. Massage was meant to be firm but a baby could have applied more pressure. 30 minutes pedi was just a change of colour. It wasnt until I was outside that I notice that when taking off my blue nail varnish she covered my toes in it. I now have the feet of a smurf.

Had an amazing spa day, meal and stay. Staff couldn't have been anymore accommodating

Mixed reaction. Not disabled friendly. I bought a voucher for Christmas for my terminal ill mum, she was refused treatment due to her health. None of this was explained when booking when id explained my mums condition. Id written a complaint because I had all the pampering and my mum could only gave a head message which was an expensive £90 treatment and only 1x sessions when I'd bought Wowcha voucher 2x90 treatment. Needs to be more training for this type of topic.
Also could do with larger gown, im a size 18 it didnt go round me, was told one size fits all, sad because they where larger ladies who came in towels to the pool area.

Best massage ever thankyou will definitely come back x

Had an overnight spa stay, upgraded to superior room which was worth it. Although spa was busy the treatments where both good. As a package I think it’s value for money and the hotel and restaurant lovely
