Reviews of The Y Theatre
G. C.
Amazing atmosphere during the concert of Wishbone Ash bands. Team in great shape. The band preceding also with the climate. Great selection of beers and drinks. A great place for small concerts.
M. C.
Great venue with fantastic sound quality, seats are a tad on the small side though!
H. D.
Lovely venue! Such a hidden gem of a theatre. Staff very friendly and helpful when we did a gig there on the 2nd April. Nothing was too much trouble. Great bar as well! Would definitely visit again and recommend others to support this great venue!
J. W.
Great little performance space, I'd recommend going in the balcony, more room and better seats
B. P.
Seats are tiny (I'm an average size 12) Place is very basic in all areas. I get that it's not meant to be upmarket however so that's to be expected.
Disappointed when covid rules applied and we were emailed prior to a performance to have our negative lfts/covid passports ready but on entering and asking if they wanted to see them got waved in with a "no you're alright" response!
Went to another show last night and was ruined by a bunch of foul mouth loud women literally SCREAMING because they had friends in the production, I get that they want to support but our ears are still ringing from their loud screams, literally was unpleasant for all close by. Hence the seats do need at least another foot between rows for comfort; leg room and ears! I know that may mean less seats but we need some comfort room too! At £18 a ticket it isn't too much to expect surely.
C. B.
Brilliant little theatre! Lovely staff. Parking nearby. Only issue is the chaos of driving in Leicester when you're not a local! Great place to see interesting shows.
C. S.
Good sit down venue the sound was good. Small bar with bottled beer , wine and spirits not badly priced. Friendly staff.
J. E.
Excellent little theatre, shame the stalls area not sloped, if you are short and get sat near the back not so easy to see. Great little bar and not too busy even when the theatre is full.
K. T.
Loved it here, never had a bad time. Everyone is friendly, lovely intimate venue. Will keep coming back.
O. S.
Good intimate theatre. We were here for a private event, but I guess there stand op shows is top notch excellent.
J. F.
Great traditional victorian theatre, right by the train station in Leicester. A good mix of quality comedy, music, theatre, new work, dance and spoken word. Reasonable ticket prices and seating upstairs in balcony and stalls available. Fully accessible for audiences and ncp car park next door.
D. B.
I went to see The Peacock Lounge Burlesque, a sexy riot of an evening! The venue was a little messy but still a great night time spot
L. M.
Nice theatre, and only let down by me being seating right in front of a massive pillar..
Didn't really spoil my view much though.
J. C.
Great little live music venue, soooooper friendly and helpful staff.
T. L.
This compact Victorian theatre has been preserved and well cared for by the YMCA in whose building it is located. It is a wonderfully intimate venue so you are not far from the stage wherever you are - in the stalls or in the balcony. It hosts a diverse range of acts from theatre, comedy, music, poetry and dance. It has it's own small bar adjacent to where you enter the premises. I have been here many times to see a wide variety of different acts and have always been pleased during my times here.
There is an NCP car park adjacent to it on East Street, Leicester as well as on-street parking in the surrounding streets.
The entrance is disabled-accessible as are the auditorium stalls.
S. R.
Lovely atmosphere. A great venue for arthouse wrestling
A. A.
Lovely small venue. Great view from the stage and other seated areas.
R. E.
Fantastic venue, easy to find and super nice
D. L.
Fantastic local theatre which hosts Aint it funky nights and the Leicester comedy festival
T. M.
An excellent music venue who sadly are still unable to answer the phone!!!🤔🥺🙄
K. T.
Very good show, well presented, nice little theater.
D. L.
Saw WiFi wars.
Little venue. Does the job, staff friendly
J. C.
Visited as a school comedy festival. Pleasant friendly staff, well organised.
D. S.
First time visiting this venue on 18th of this month. Covid friendly well organised. Show was absolutely fantastic great night had by all bringing friends with us next time.
A. G.
Fantastic small venue in the city, go if you get the opportunity, a hidden gem!
B. B.
Excellent small venue that puts on a good range of show's if you do go o avoid the NCP car park opposite which even with the discounted rate is expensive opt for the Dover Street car park around the corner which is a couple of minutes walk away.
C. E.
First visit here and am definitely going again. Quaint old theatre but full of character.
D. P.
Gorgeous old theatre, the oldest in Leicester apparently. Great staff and some amazing acts appearing. 😊
a. S.
Intimate space, fell in love with the place as soon as I walked through the doors. They have a vast and eclectic choice. Just check it out for yourself. We'll worth the visit
S. D.
Awesome venue great acoustic sound
k. h.
Enjoyed time here however has lost its spark now with new owners, place is clean, tidy and inviting, toilet were good size in males and didn't smell. The actual show felt rushed however had humour for both adults and children. I think with time it could improve. The seating area in bar is nice and spacious.
K.
Great local venue, friendly staff. Just seen Mark Thomas, who makes you laugh whilst informing and enlightening you at the same time - wrapped up with truly unrestrained insults directed at the government, perfect!
J. M.
Great comedy night here for £5. Attentive staff and had a great evening
C. L.
Excellent small venue. We went to see a BBC comedy event here and was no problem at all. You need to remember it is small and you might have to queue to get a drink at the interval but was still well run and a nice little venue.
A. S.
Quirky little theatre different from the modern main stream ones in the area, but as it's 100 years old this is to be expected and added to the experience. Full of character, with a pleasant bar in the foyer staffed on our visit by 2 very attentive and colourful barman. We sat in the front row on the balcony, the only issue was restricted leg room, all of our party mention even my daughter's who are 5ft4, but we did have an excellent view of the stage.
s. 9.
Absolutely fantastic venue and thenshowtwe went to see was stunning (india Starr burlesque)
R. K.
The Y Theatre is a quaint little venue with lovely traditional interior and external architecture. The staff are polite and more than willing to help and they have a wide variety of shows on offer. Definitely worth a visit if you're in town and fancy a spontaneous trip to see something different!
A. B.
Lovely old compact theatre just opposite Leicester train station - visited a while back to see Ellie Taylor in a sold out show.
There is a small bar that gets packed before the show.Really impressed and have already booked for another show in the new year
G. S.
A delightful theatre with lots of beautiful original features. Bar is a little pricey (as you'd expect) but staff are helpful and welcoming. Little leg room on the stalls seating.
E. A.
Love it here. Charming old building, great entertainment
W. R.
Best kept venue in the City
P. M.
Always good to visit with great variety of performances on offer. Nice bar with friendly staff all around. I've had a few issues with pre ordered tickets not showing as registered but I've always had these satisfactorily resolved. Good venue!
B. H.
Great little theatre and oldest in Leicester worth going to watch groups play
L. H.
Saw a great comedy show for Black History month. Very funny, very naughty! The Y has been updated bar area modern now. A few issues, no bottled water in the interval, a long queue for the ladies so used the ones in the changing area but no loo roll & toilets wouldn't flush. C'mon Y, when people have paid to see a show make sure the facilities work. This is 2019 after all!!
J. H.
Enjoyed a great tribute gig at this venue. Plenty of space for those who want to dance on the ground floor, and for the those who need to sit up on the balcony. Good acoustics. Friendly staff. Straightforward to park nearby.
A. T.
What a lovely celebration of good old fashioned gaming. Our grandchildren loved it which meant so did we. Glad we found you
S. I.
Got to see my first show (WiFi wars, fantastic show) and the staff were really nice and helpful. Small and simple theatre you can tell it's an old theatre... built 1900! It has a pleasant atmosphere though sometimes has... groups of questionable folk hanging about outside from their homeless shelter programme. Once in its great.
P. S.
First time I've been here. Very attentive staff. A great wee theatre but be careful about the parking next door. £13 for the evening because we didn't pick up about the theatre discount.
S. S.
Watched Geoff Norcott, great show, nice small cosy venue
F. A.
Quite a small place but good for amatuer theatre or a stand up, but dont expect much luxury either, basic seating, go for the show, not the atmosphere, seems to have an old school feel to it
C. C.
We came to watch a comedy show. Not what I originally thought I'd booked lol but we were very welcome by all that was there and the show was so funny! The room was very spacious and alot of room for all the belly laughs :)
D. M.
Nice small venue kinda looks like a scaled down dmh.
O. G. G.
A great little venue retaining many original features and not a bad view from anywhere in the house. Wheelchair accessible to stalls area. The staff are very helpful too.
L. M.
Great little venue. Enjoyed jenny éclair with my daughter
C. M.
Great night at the peacock lounge...lovely old theatre ....queues at the bar were v.long and wouldn't serve during end of first part as we're getting interval drinks ready but other than that a great night ..
A. M.
Brilliant venue to see Jenny Éclair...checked gor double vaccine before entrance
T. B.
Great venue for a'int it funky 2019. Really liked the atmosphere. Friendly staff and clean toilets. Good place for medium-sized function
M. R.
Very nice venue indeed. Has an upstairs view which has comfy seating. A well equipped bar and service is quick. Wheelchair accessible.
l. l.
Stunningly exquisite as the oldest surviving theatre in Leicester. Petite but boisterous amid it's many revved up gigs and performances. Indulge you must!
A. A.
Really like this venue, make sure you book in the middle for best views, friendly staff will visit again
P. B.
Excellent venue with very helpful staff. Michael H-W provided terrific service.
H. P.
Wasn't happy that at the panto, we had to sit by the doors and my children were excluded from sweets as we weren't seen!! They were very upset. Could also hear the guys doing the lights talking/making tea etc. Poorly organised but, you get what you pay for.
E. Z.
We went to see CSI crime scene improvisation! It was great! It was about an hour long and the guys were sooo great, totally recommend it! This was my first time at The Y theatre and it was a great experience
