Reviews of New Theatre Royal Lincoln
M. H.
Friendly staff, good selection of reasonably priced drinks at the bar that can now be taken into the auditorium. I went to see the Bowie Experience and thoroughly enjoyed it. The new owners have clearly invested a lot of time and money in tastefully refurbishing the theatre and the interior looks much better for it. There's even a bit of air conditioning in the auditorium now, which I'm sure will make the place much more bearable in summer.
V. H.
Lovely theatre, although not very accessible with pushchairs ( understandable as it is an old building). Staff are nonetheless very accommodating and helpful. Seating is comfortable. Great range of performances.
A. E.
Great traditional theatre. Obviously, limited knee space as most old places like this. The view of the stage from back of the middle circle was absolutely fine. So would expect other views to be good. Staff were all lovely and great selection of ice cream at the interval.
B. 1.
Recently started visiting alot. Staff are very friendly they're always smiling and seem like they are having a good time. The seats are comfortable and drinks are good value. Wish the foyer didn't get so crowded but apart from that absolutely gorgeous theatre
R. C.
Great show in a lovely Victorian theatre. As everything was all booked we had to go to the Royal Balcony which gave a lovely view of the stage. But all those stairs to go up and the steps in the theatre are awkward. The seats are very tight and high so not a comfortable 2 and a bit hours. But would definitely go again
D. F.
Spent a great evening at the theatre, such a wonderful Victorian setting with lots of grandeur and opulence.
Attentive and friendly staff ushered guests into seats swiftly. Would recommend
G. B.
Lovely little theatre with drinks, sweets, crisps and ice cream to buy.
Only 2 ladies toilets so quite a queue during intermission. All staff were friendly and helpful.
C. M.
Great little theatre in the centre of Lincoln. A variety of shows for all tastes and ages. Can't say enough about the staff, all really warm and welcoming. Made our night ☺️
M. M.
This a beauty old style glamour theatre with delightful professional staff.
The facilties are excellent. I saw the Jive Talking show. It was a fantastic evening of entertainment which I enjoyed very much. I would highly recommend a visit to this theatre for any show of interest.

Just had the most wonderful evening with my daughter at the theatre royal in Lincoln. We went to watch, ‘Rythem of the dance’, which was the most uplifting and joyful experience, what an atmosphere in the theatre. This was our first time at this theatre and we were very impressed about the whole place. The building is beautifully maintained having been refurbished by the latest owners, I am told. We we’re greeted by the friendliest and most helpful staff throughout, nothing was too much trouble for any of them, they obviously love working there because they were always smiling! It is a delightful small traditional theatre with added aircon, which during this heat wave was absolutely welcomed. We had a drink in the bar, served by equally friendly and professional bar staff and enjoyed the very needed air conditioning. We parked just down the road at Beaumont Fee car park, only a short walk on almost a flat level, £4 for all night and no climbing the steep hill tonight! We will definitely be going again and another visit to watch ‘Rythem of the dance’. Fabulous night!
J. H.
Lovely little theatre. Friendly staff. Seats are quite small. We were at a live music gig and there is a 'no dance' policy which was very disappointing. It spoilt the atmosphere of the gig. ☹
A. B.
very friendly staff :) had a lovely evening here on the evening of the unfortunate passing of the Queen. the national anthem & the minutes silence were a very respectful and appropriate way to start the show. thank you
r. c.
Lovely little place, friendly and helpful staff. Some great acts and tributes. Not a deal of room for dancing. Will return.
R. P.
I am a disabled person and was told there was no lift. There were 3 lots of stairs. The theatre is a lovely little theatre and I want to keep going there.
S. C.
Went to see be bop a lula this evening. The singers were brilliant especially " Buddy Holly". The band played well..however there was absolutely no enjoyment displayed by them which in turn made the whole performance boring for me unfortunately.
Just standing/sitting there like expression less statues to some fantastic rock n roll music made the whole performance boring!
Come on lads ..at least look like your enjoying yourselves and smile or even move a bit..🙄
The double bass player missed loads of opportunities to twizzle n spin his instrument..just stood there stock still..yawn..yawn and the keyboard player was too busy looking at a computer or something..🤷🏼♀️not even interacting with his fellow band members let alone the audience!
Spent nearly £100 tonight including taxi..drinks and tickets.
A huge amount of money to watch competent musicians NOT enjoying themselves!
Theatre however is beautiful 👍

Went to see The Billy Joel Album show as performed by Elio Pace and his band which ,what a performance that was, exceptional. I'm not sure why they call it the "new" theatre as inside it seems an old, quaint and very small intimate type theatre,I loved it,we were near the front but looking round it seemed that everyone would have a pretty decent view, the lighting for this particular show was amazing and the staff seemed helpful and welcoming.Wish this theatre was nearer to us so I could go more often. If there was anything to criticize it would be that at previous theatres I know people have taken a photo or two and they had someone with a sign walk the front of the stage before the performance started saying no pictures or filming when was a little disappointing to me as I would have loved to take a short video on my phone just to show friends family and interested parties just how brilliant this theatre, lighting and performing artists were which in my opinion would only serve to advertise a great place and a fantastic show. Anyone who likes Billy Joel cannot fail to love Elio.
A. I.
What a lovely theatre, a step back in time to yesteryear, how things used to be, small a cosy, the seats are very close together, we booked seats in the Royal circle, great view of the stage but no legroom to the seat in front, it's our only complaint because everything else is just fantastic, we are going back in October.
L. A.
Brilliant theatre. Lovely staff too.
S. S.
We just love it here. Friendly and intimate. Wish the seats were a touch more spacious:)
S. D.
We went to see The Classic Rock show last weekend, super show, would highly recommend if you love your rock music. Staff at the theatre are very helpful and friendly, lovely small theatre in the heart of Lincoln
A. S.
Lovely little theatre. Very friendly staff with a warm welcome.
R. S.
Slightly worn around the edges but I just love old theatres. This ones great plus it has friendly staff. Great atmosphere during my visit. Couldn't fault it.
G. M.
Diana Ross tribute show was fantastic. Will try to carefully book seats with more leg room next time. Royal Circle seats C 7 & 8 had very little room
F. I.
Went to an evening with Ranulph Fiennes...it was my first visit to this theatre and I was pleasantly surprised by the amazing decor
M. N.
We came to watch the panto on Saturday and ooh myyyy gooood godddd it was incredible!!!! My nephew loved it, seeing him shout, sing and dance along filled my heart, but most of all he had a smile from ear to ear the whole way through. The whole cast were insane!! It's the best panto I've ever been to see. We loved how they interacted with the croud and all their funny one liners. Honestly it was the best for both the children and the adults. Hats off to each and everyone of you for working so hard and putting on the most amazing show🎉
A. R.
Such a lovely place, friendly staff, bar not overpriced either, end seats give better leg room
R. W.
Lovely small and old theatre! Lovely Staff, great location.
L. C.
Lovely old building, but not very roomy.
They have some very good shows. Easy to access website, where you can book the tickets and time, or phone in during the day.
A lot of the staff are volunteers, but they are usually really helpful and polite.
For disabled, if you let them know at the front door, they let you in the side door when there are no steps.
No many spaces for wheelchairs!
a. L.
Lovely Theatre, feels cosy and good view of stage from where I have ever sat. The staff are always friendly and polite. They are also really accommodating with children. Would recommend this as a venue. (They had a no photo policy so can't add any)
J. M.
Gorgeous Victorian theatre, beautifully maintained. Friendly, welcoming staff. A good variety of shows. A lovely venue for a good night out.
M. T.
Went to see Bee Gee s tribute last night worth every penny were brilliant one if the best tribute acts I have seen. Staff were all smiling and helpful great night
R. W.
Interesting venue but the bar areas are way too small for the amount of customers and the seats are really packed in tightly, so you'd better get friendly with your neighbour.
K. B. C.
Love this theatre in my home town.
Great staff and really good shows
My wife and I love the 60 s shows and try to arrange our visits to Lincoln to enjoy this wonderful place
Thanks
Keith B

Money for Nothing tonight in Lincoln New Theatre Royal... THAT was AWESOME!!! I'd say better than the originals!!
r. w.
The event was great, as for the theatre itself however its very antiquated needs a spruce! And the temperature when the show was happening was close to unbearable. More aircon needed!
L. R.
Watched Gyles Brandreth. First time here. Has to climb 50 stairs to reach our seats. Not the best with my dodgy hip.
Gets very warm inside on a hot evening.
S. D.
Fantastic afternoon/evening, staff were amazing really on it, bar not too busy but ladies loos were extremely busy at interval. All great otherwise 😊😁
B. C.
Went to see Gyles Brandreth. Loved the show &, most relevant to the review, liked the theatre very much! Cute, good size & kind staff.
C. B.
Lovely old theatre. Friendly staff. Will go back
K. J.
Lovely venue, very friendly, helpful staff.
Atmospheric! A bit pricey hence the 4 star.
B. B.
Stunning venue, great staff. Varied full year programme of events and shows. A gem - use it
N. A.
Lovely Victorian theatre. Staff welcoming and helpful.
B. B.
Great place to take the kids. Price's are simular to the Cinema, but good fun.
G. G.
Brilliant well kept Victorian period theatre. We attended a backstage tour conducted by theatre manager Ian Marston who was extremely interesting and is an absolute mine of information about this stunning place.. well worth a visit to keep local live theatre going.. check out their website for shows coming up or join Ian on one of his backstage tours there's lots of steps involved so you need to be able bodied, though there are hand rails at all but one flight of about 5 steps..
B. G.
Just seen the brilliant Guitar Heroes show, Wowsers that's what playing guitar 🎸 is all about, Especially liked listening to the Bass, was blown away how many guitars are actually used in the show, definitely recommend you getting a chance to see the show, 2nd time visited the theatre went to see the Carol King musical just before Xmas very recommend also, the theatre is showing it's age but these days the cost of refurbishment would put the ticket prices up which would stop people going, shame really, great show's and very friendly hospitality staff, yes enjoyed our night time at the theatre,
T. M.
Lovely little theatre, great intimate setting and fantastic staff. We went to a Friday night show which we thoroughly enjoyed. Parking was also easy and close by.
C. t.
Beautiful old theatre with great acoustics and lovely setting in Lincoln
K. M.
Lovely atmosphere for Al Murray gig. Drinks a bit pricey but adds to experience.
D. S.

Lovely old Theatre built in 1893 in the centre of Lincoln
Very helpful and friendly staff made us feel very welcome
M. G.
Beautiful old theatre. Make sure you book to see a show to experience the magical atmosphere of Lincoln Theatre Royal and help preserve this magnificent building.
L. K.
I know its a old building and its built on a hill. but there more can ve done to ensure the safety specially the elderly walking around. There are hidden steps and slopes which can be highlighted. The amount of people that i seen trip up in one night was unreal. Can be provented if steps and slopes are is a diffrent colour then the carpet. Maybr a sign or two.
t. p.
Beautiful theatre with a very friendly staff
g. b.
Great little theatre, lovely staff. very traditional atmosphere, and a great range of shows

Just been to see Vampires Rock and what an amazing show. The singers had fantastic voices and the atmosphere was great with the audience singing and clapping. Well done to all the cast. Tickets bought for the next show on 14th May.
N. W.
Watched Jive Talkin amazing show, fantastic performance and very like the real group....would definately recommend them.
A. B.
Lovely theatre had a great night watching a performance by Centre Stage theatre school
J. W.
Well run with friendly staff and good service both pre-show drinks and interval ones.
The theatre is small so seating is pretty cramped, if you have long legs try to choose an aisle seat!
B. E. (.
Very good band the seating is awful too close together and uncomfortable upstairs. And very hot
S. B.
Love the atmosphere of this grand old theatre, catering for our modern world in great and sympathetic way, obviously been managed by people with an eye on it's future.
Lovely place, friendly, helpful staff, a pleasure to visit and a great program of events coming up in 2020
Looking forward to seeing several of them...
K. E.
Beautiful theatre which is well maintained and looked after. Performances are brilliant offering a range of shows to meet all ages and needs.
V. W.
Went to see whitney queen of the night brilliant show staff were really friendly the only thing that I would say is the theatre is not very clean and could do with a good clean as you could see loads of dust and it smells fusty
N. W.
Perants loved the show but extremely disappointed with the cleanliness of the place. They said they could taste the dust in the air and seat smelt.
K. K.
Amazing staff very well organized for a pack out venue brilliant time drink prices are cheap as chips very happy experience
A. H.
Quite an old style building. The seats were very comfy the sound was good and the staff were pleasant and helpful.
P. R.
Great show, staff friendly and reasonably price for a beer and coke, the only thing is the old theatre seats don't much leg room.
D. H.
Lovely theatre. Even better staff. Looked after us brilliantly
S. N.
Great old fashioned theatre with everything you expect from the experience. Very friendly and helpful staff and atmospheric
P. V.
Lovely atmosphere. Prices reasonable but seating a little cramped
R. B.
We just watched Jungle Book. It was far too loud. We did enjoy it but very amateurish. Our 4 year old adored it, which was the main thing.
G. G.
Beautiful old theatre right in the heart of Lincoln.
A. M.
Nice little theatre, would go again
S. H.
Drinks were very reasonably priced and plenty of space when sat down. Show was very entertaining. The only downside was how hot it was in the theatre. It would benefit from air conditioning.
G. A.
Really is a step back in time, lovely place
M. S.
Excellent cosy, late Victorian Theatre, friendly bar service, nice atmosphere (though leg room in the stalls somewhat constrained).
G. M.
Absolutely love the place, met some snooker legends and thoroughly enjoyed the night
D. B.
Beautiful building! Seen a couple of shows here now and have enjoyed each one. Seats are a little snug and you are packed in a little tight, but the atmosphere and original surroundings more than make up for it.
P. W.
Fascinating Aida - brilliant show, a show not to be bne missed. This theatre is beautiful. Get a drink/coffee before hand in their little bistro. Very helpful and friendly ushers. Highly recommend.
P. T.
Been to see The Ladyboys of Bankok absolutely fantastic. The costumes were amazing having had alot of work put into them.
C. F.
A great theater with friendly staff and a very comfortable atmosphere.
D. S.
Lovely old theatre. Some would say it needs an interior refit. Me, I say leave it be, character speaks volumes, so long as it's safe. First visit and looking forward to the next.
S. D.
What a wonderful night from walking through the doors to walking out,the staff were so up beat and helpful. We had such a wonderful evening with Les Musicals what an amazing show.
M. T.
Lovely venue & great live entertainment!
P. B.
Everything about this lovely old theatre is brill - Great Prince Tribute to boot

J. M.
Excellent product love the shows

Fantastic evening watching Celine Dion Tribute an amazing Band and the lead singer, superb 🥰
J. P.
Fabulous evening watching this show 😎
M. R.
A great old theatre with a good choice of shows. The staff are always so helpful and friendly.
R. M.
Beautiful theatre and great show this afternoon
M. B.
It had a fantastic atmosphere! Beautiful setting and features
D. B.
Really nice place, We have just seen Francis Rossi here. The seating wasn't cramped like we were expecting. The staff wer helpful,I couldn't show them anything on my phone a quick look up soon rectified that problem. Pre ordering drinks is a good idea so it's on a table waiting, only drawback to that anybody could pinch your drink. Will be going back to see the pantomime later on in the year. Would highly recommend
J. G.
Love this theatre shame bar isn't open for a little while after show.
F. S.
Lovely tech crew and nice ice cream
S. B.
Always love going here, it's like stepping back in time! They have loads of fun shows, and acts ranging from ballet to rock shows... I'm really looking forward to seeing the Vampire rock show early next year, it looks brilliant! The staff are really friendly and helpful, and you can get drinks, snacks and a nice hot brew if you want while you watch. Came here to watch the Christmas panto last year and it was fantastic.
A. B.
Great night out as always here, people working at this venue are always friendly and helpful. Just wish I could give them an extra star rating for not banning the amazing Roy Chubby Brown as some other places have
I. N.
Loved the experience and the show. Backside fast asleep after an hour, the old seats are really the only let down.
We watched a comedian and small personal venue is perfect for this type of performance. Staff excellent!
J. P.
Enjoyed the panto this year but the only bug bear are the seats ,I am only 5ft 2 inches and my knees touch the seats in front very uncomfortable!! Pity any 6ft 2 inch people !
D. M.
Great night, lovely theatre, seating a bit tight though. Lovely helpful staff
P. C.
Very traditional small theatre lovely atmosphere
A. K.
Well organised event staff very friendly 👏and welcoming very old just how u expect a theatre to be only down side not a lot of leg room but as people were a lot smaller in the olden days its what u Ave to expect well worth a visit throughly enjoyed our visit 😀👍
C. S.
Lovely traditional theatre.
S. K.
Lovely small theatre, staff are brilliant. We enjoyed the show we went to see and looking forward to the Christmas pantomime next.
S. C.
New to the area and found this theatre a lovely place to be with extremely friendly and efficient staff..a joyful experience.
D. H.
Bowie Experience show disappointing due only to front man relying on costumes rather than voice.
Theatre staff amazing.
J. E.
Nice place clean and tidy. Friendly polite staff. Good show.
B. 6.
Great little place was appearing in Age UK talent event along with 9 other groups. Got to understand what goes on behind the scenes. We didn't win though we didn't disgrace ourselves. The 3Gs were brilliant and deserved to win.
M. B.
The quality of entertainment is really good .A number of the bands are musically excellent.
E. C.
Went to see Beauty and the beast, thoroughly enjoyed it, well done to the cast and all the Theatre Royal staff 👍
A. C.
Super little theatre. I can count the amount of times I have been in a theatre on one hand, I booked tickets for Vampire Rocks as a gift for my mum. Having never been to the theatre Royal we didn't know what to expect. The theatre is small and beautifully stuck in a time warp. The performance was fantastic, as the theatre was small it gave a sense of intamacy and a connection between the audience and performers. Excellent friendly staff too.
L. B.
Excellent experience visiting this theatre, beautiful venue and staff very friendly
G. E.
Wonderful venue, staff are superbly accomodating. Great selection of shows that should not be missed!
T. M.
Is a very nice theatre, enjoyed the band playing thought that was great. Got into my seat,I'm 6ft 3 tall, and large build certainly not designed for the likes of me,I was absolutely squashed, was torture.my legs were aching, managed to get too the break. I saw an usher and asked her for a normal chair to sit on,told her my situation she duly obliged. Staff were very friendly, just think it needs an upgrade to make it a pleasant evening experience. Certainly won't be going back there in it's current state.
N. S.
Great little theatre with a very intimate feel. This is probably because nobody in the audience is more than about 50 feet from the stage!
The place has 3 tiers with boxes for those who like to get up close and personal with the performers. To be honest, you don't need to spend the extra cash on them as even in row L in the stalls, you can almost shake hands with whoever is treading the boards.
I'll definitely be keeping an eye on the website for details of future events...
E. K.
Was a good night seeing the magic of Motown
P. S.
Lovely theatre great show seats a little on the small side probably me overweight. Well worth a trip
D. H.
Went to Wizard of Oz, absolutely brilliant. A must see for all the family. Can't recommend it enough.
D.
What an absolutely lovely theatre. Front of house staff were all so very friendly x
A. G. (.
I really love our Theatre Royal lovely friendly staff. Excellent shows and good prices. Going again this week to see Evita from CAODS. My daughter took me in April to see Walk Right Back and loved it. Need to come along more often its a local treasure,
P. R.
Well organised Theatre, with good artists entertainment, can buy drinks, snacks and ice reams, well worth a visit, but you might find legroom a bit restricting in some rows.
M. D.
The Theatre is an asset to the City. A historic venue. It has recently been lovingly & sympathetically refitted. The staff are superb & extremely professional. There is a richly diverse programme of acts & performances. All in all a very well run, welcoming venue.
P. S.
Great experience. Seats are a bit uncomfortable and feel cramped in. Friendly staff though and all round an amazing experience. I don't usually do theatre but really enjoyed this show and the cast did an awesome job..
B. J.
Great show! We were in the Royal Balcony on the back row. Not enough room as only bench style seating, very uncomfortable and too high up to see the screen behind the show. Have booked Royal Circle for our next visit so will be better.
M. K.
Excellent atmosphere, excellent staff and an absolute pleasure to attend. Best theatre experience I've had, anywhere!!
Thankyou.
A. D.
Nice old style theatre but it is what it is, a little cramped and there is no legroom; the seats are small and a bit tight. However, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the productions are varied and very well presented.
D. H.
Lovely small theatre in Lincoln city centre. Watched Robin Hood here at Xmas 2019. Great performance and I think we enjoyed it more than the kids! No photos allowed in the theatre. Parking may be a problem for early showings. Great fun!
D. G.
Excellent venue. Well worth a visit. Great volunteers keeping it going. All staff very friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere as not a massive theatre.
B. M.
Absolutely fantastic such a great night seeing Roy chubby brown live but the seating was a bit tight and squashed up
C. R.
Couldn't see all the stage from my seat so there should have been notifications about that when I booked them. It would be ok if someone was in the centre of the stage but when trying to watch dancers it was disappointing. Otherwise a lovely little theatre.
A. E.
Victorian-style theatre that has been refurbished and is in good condition. Seating is tightly packed in in stalls, circle and upper circle but the variety of shows and events put on is worth visiting. A cafe bar is available for refreshments. Worth a visit. Staff are friendly and approachable.
S. H.
Absolutely loved it , staff brilliant and the theatre, was beautiful made our night very special
S. C.
Watched cher tribute , very good act
Theatre built pre 1900 , seating very hard for tall people
A. Z.
First time visit. Saw BeeGees tribute band. I will say, the seats are a little too close together, and I'm only 5'5" but knees hard against seats in front, so any 6-footers, as is my partner will suffer. Ambiance excellent, acoustics very good, bars and all staff good. Certainly will o to another production, but will choose different seats.
A.
Always a treat to go to this Historical Theatre.
R. W.
Uncomfortable chairs but nice theatre
L. P.
Absolutely fantastic, 5 stars for everything! apart from the lack of Disability aids. My Mum booked us for the Royal stalls as she was told this was ground floor, no stairs! But we managed somehow and we had the best afternoon with my husband and our 10 year old little boy!
V. B.
Great atmosphere...a little cramped...but it was built for smaller people... easily seen stage. Fairly priced tickets.
Z. M.
Great to get back to live performances. Great staff and place to visit
a. b.
Cosy theatre with excellent staff. Clean and tidy. Ice cream ladies at interval for a bit of nostalgia. Lost 1 star only because decor could do with a refresh. Other than that, highly recommended.
R. F.
Enjoyed a pre-show bite to eat at their new eating area. Enjoyed the show also. The theatre is charming, a real piece of history. The only slight issue is space, the seating can only be described as snug!
H. R.
Aladdin was fantastic. All the cast were amazing,so funny!!! Thought all the younger cast done an amazing job as well. Really good to see local children being involved. Would definitely recommend a visit 😀
S. S.
Fabulous theatre, watched Forbidden Nights, was a fab show and the theatre just gets more nostalgic every time we visit. Little gem of a theatre and a super night out.
R. H.
Really nice little quirky theatre and had a good time.
C. H.
Great panto beauty and the beast with jake quickenden my kids loved it and my son is special needs and noise sensitive but really loved it too
J. H.
My daughter and I took my 4 year old autistic grandson to see 'walking with dinosaurs'. It hadn't even started and he had a meltdown. The staff were absolutely fantastic. They were prepared to do anything to accommodate us, even offering to open the 'God's. In the end they gave us tickets for the following day when we remembered his ear defenders. I couldn't be more impressed with the service we received.
L. C.
Smells as dated as it looks. Apparently it was recently refurbed but seemingly by someone stuck in the 70s?? It' unbelievably tiny, which is good but my major problem here is that no matter where you sit, the price is the same for a ticket. Fine if you can see from everywhere but on the top royal balcony there's big metal bars or the lights blocking your view. My sis and I spent the whole show bent forward awkwardly trying to see. For 30quid a ticket, it was awful, I've paid less in the West End and had better views.
R. B.
A lovely 120 year plus old theatre, that deserves its place on the long heritage list of Lincoln architecture. From the outside, it really doesn't look that grand and as theatres go, this one is on the smaller side. Because it is smaller, you don't feel too far away from the action where ever you sit. The big downside is that it is cramped, with narrow walk ways, making it difficult to get around, especially if someone is going the opposite way.
There are three seating levels, with the upper balcony feeling very steep and not for the nervous.
It will go down well with anyone who likes a traditional looking theatre hall but the lack of space does detract from the overall experience.
M. B.
The new owners are trying their best to bring this small theatre up to date, and doing a good job despite it still needing more work on the decor.
It's cozy, friendly and has good views from wherever you may be sitting.
Well worth a visit.
M. B.
Went to see Robin Hood and Barney Harwood stole the show.
What a fantastic pantomime, what a great treat over Christmas. We love coming here it truly sets up our Christmas.
V. C.
Loved this theatre. Small little local place, but beautiful and historical building. All staff, from the doorman to the barman were friendly, polite, and professional (not to mention the amazing show we watched!)
I. W.
Enjoyed it parking is hard to find close by
A. P.
A lovely "old style" theatre that is operated in the way theatre should be!! Staff are very friendly and helpful and the Stage Door Bistro can be recommended for pre show meals.
We watched Bee Gees tribute band "Jive Talkin" last night...it was a "sell out"...and wow!! What a show!!.
T. J.
Beauty and the Beast is just great ,nice show.Big respect to Hugo. You are great .♥️
M. W.
Took my grandson to see The Wizard of Oz, fantastic performance my 4 yr old grandson was transfix, I also thoroughly enjoyed it. No need to go to the West End of London when you have a fantastic venue on your doorstep.
S. P.
Beautiful old theatre with lots of charm and a great atmosphere, not a lot of legroom but that doesn't spoil the occasion, worth visit and they seem to be getting quite a few reasonably big stars again now. Friendly staff too
J. F.
Just love this place brings back so many happy memories! Great fun at the panto this year.
J. S.
Fantastic atmospheric little theatre, went to see Charles Dickens, The Signalman. Wow great production and what a perfect theatre to see it in. Some seats are a little tight if you are tall, so select carefully when booking, but I'd absolutely recommend a visit, and the staff are super helpful.
L. B.
We really enjoy the whole experience of the Panto.Had a brilliant time with Grandchild and friends.wonderfully interactive. Top marks we now are looking to attend other entertainment on offer at this theatre.
p. r.
Bye bye baby - excellent show. Sang all of the Frankie Vallie & the Four Seasons numbers. Well worth seeing. NTR staff very friendly, attentive & polite. Only down side was in the Royal Circle great view but my knees were pushing against seat in front & had to sit with knees apart (wearing long skirt) or sit sideways. I'm 5ft. 4ins. NTR magical place.

A Foreigners Journey, Feb 8th.
Booked the stage left Royal Box for my sister’s Christmas present.
The boxes have four seats but in truth, really seat two comfortably.
Plenty of staff on, pointing out the idiosyncrasies of the flooring (little raised steps under carpet etc) @newtheatreroyal, why don’t you install a band of different coloured carpet?
Since I was last at the Theatre Royal, the upstairs bar has moved sides, Chris Moreno’s (former manager) office is now a lounge area and there is the addition of The Prosecco Bar and cafe. on the ground floor.
I was pointed in the direction of this bar for interval drinks which at £10 were reasonably priced for two double G&T.
Also, the tech box has finally moved and is at the back of the circle, wow! Wonder if the perilous wooden platform is still there above the stage managers desk?!
Now to the gig.
The band opened with Journey’s Wheel in the Sky and I wondered where they could go from there as that’s pretty ‘up there’ as an iconic classic.
So then they just got better and better! A very tight band, all the musicians seemed to be having a ball on stage and it was hit after hit, then we were treated to some Journey for the hardcore fans - fabulous instrumental with the guitarist, Ricky, playing with such skill that Neil Schon would have been proud.
The ability of the vocalist to switch between the very different singing styles of Journey’s Steve Perry and Foreigner’s Lou Gramm was impressive, Andrea’s vocal range is phenomenal, and we were treated to a master class in audience engagement.
This band were the epitome of professional, the theatre definitely should have been a lot fuller and I don’t know why it wasn’t, but we were privileged to be at the best gig and night out in a very long time.
S. D.
We went to see Joe pasquale tonight it was so funny we had a great time. We just love going to this theatre the staff are very helpful and happy on their work. I would recommend it to everyone as an entertainment place to be.
C. T.
A Victorian music hall, now used as a theatre. We enjoyed the pantomime, which was full of enthusiasm by the performers. Alas, the interior is sadly neglected by its owners, whoever they are. Front of house staff, work with care and serve the City of Lincoln well.
P. A.
Nice show of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin tribute....known as Purple Zeppelin
S. D.
Went to see the searchers at Lincoln theatre royal..would highly recommend a visit to this beautiful little theatre
C. L.
Great shows but leg room is tight!
V. W.
Our first visit to your theatre we went specifically to see Pickwick Papers. Cast, Direction, and adaption great worthy of any west end theatre. Staff at the sharp end of your theatre friendly and helpful. Theatre freezing we later found out on enquiry that there was a problem over heating no surprise there. I would like to suggest that the next time this occurs an apology on stage from the management and the offer of a complimentary hot drink at interval would be most welcome.
S. A.
Brilliant! Second visit to Aladdin this season and it's just great. Well done to all the cast and everyone involved. Please support this wonderful Theatre 🎭
J.
The pantomime was excellent only thing was not a lot of leg space but suppose it and old theatre
T. R.
We saw beauty and the beast for my daughters 3rd birthday. We all loved it.
G. C.
Small and cosy theatre. Production enjoyed by our group.
S. C.
Very nice restoration of a traditional venue, tastefully redecorated, but still remains that if you are over 6ft tall, you may find seats in the circle somewhat restricted for leg room
R. M.
Great evening, drinks are reasonably priced to!
b. d.
Fabulous place even after 60 years.
L. M.
Helpful staff and a good show
A. M.
Al Murray was fantastic. But the building is in need of repair.
There are holes in the walls and the back wall is peeling off with mould.
I know a guy who can fix this though. Give is a shout when the tender for the repairs is released.
L. D.
I could be classed as bias as I'm a member of the new theatre royal Lincoln but recently went in to book a show and as it was a sell out managed to book the royal box and as it was for 4 of us didn't cost any extra the staff we're fantastic showed me the view we'd get which was perfect I also reserved seats in the royal lounge with a drinks package they couldn't do enough but I know that regardless of being a member they treat everyone the same a fantastic venue which I know any visitors to lincoln would fully enjoy
S. R.
Great little venue for a panto!!! Lots of stairs to the top and steep. Seats friendly as you're all squished in. Love it and look forward to 2019 panto ;)
D. F.
Terrific as always. Very nice welcome and felt looked after
G. W.
Great choice of shows for all the family. A lot of hard work has been done by the staff to keep this venue open and it has been nicely refurbished to its original decor.
H. H.
I attended with my mother and disabled grandson. The staff were so helpful and kind I really can't thank them enough for ensuring we had a wonderful afternoon at their theatre.
J. B.
What a beautiful treasure this is for Lincoln. A traditional theatre that is putting on a variety of excellent shows. It has a lovely ambience the current owners are working really hard to improve and restore its facilities.
H. G.
We had not been to the Theatre Royal for some time but were bowled over by what an attractive little theatre it is. It seems to be in good condition and the seating spaces are generous for a theatre of that era.
m. a.
Great little theatre. Friendly staff. Good shows.
L. W. (.
Gorgeous old theatre with amazing shows. Highly recommended for all ages, with good access for all and plenty of facilities including new cafe and spots for refreshments.

A lovely old theatre but beware the back seats on the top tier are no more than a bench despite being priced the same as the seats in front. Not for the height wary either
