Reviews of Chinatown Liverpool
T. K.
Chinese New year is always a great event and no this year after covid lockdown is just great to see again.
If anyone with sensory issues to noise to bring their headphones or defenders as it gets very loud with fire crackers.
J. W.
Another great experience at Chinatown for Chinese New year. The dragon dance was the highlight and as always the entire district was full of red lanterns, fire crackers and cheer.
K. B.
Really nice place to visit being in Liverpool! Just need some street cleaning and fresh painting.
N. A. J.
Its not the typical China town you may have seen in other parts of the world. Its more of a nice neighbourhood where you will find authentic Chinese restaurants, also ropewalk is a must go if you visit china town.
L.
Visited for Chinese New Year 2022 and it was lovely!
G. U.
Really nice authentic structures. Proper Chinese feel about this place. Issue is cash only cards not accepted. But this is case with most if not all Chinese joints
I. A.
The area looked great. The big arch and the lampposts looked really cool. I went in the morning so I didn't get the full effect, but when I'm back I'll definitely have to call in to some of the businesses there
s. m.
Whilst in Liverpool see popped through Chinatown…for us nowhere was open it was a Thursday?? So not sure.. everywhere looked nice tho to be fair. Will re-visit in the summer.
J. H.
Great restaurants but visited today for New year's parade
C. P.
Interesting morning walking around Chinatown enjoying all the decorations.
C. M.
A place with a lot of good Chinese restaurants
A. I. S.
We only came to see the grand gate but we were not disappointed at all!
C. T. V. U.
I went through lockdown for something to do as I expected everything was shut but people can’t help that that’s life therefore I will not be downgrading in the rating
In Chinatown Liverpool it’s so great it’s like it’s it own little town in a big city with its own park, shop, houses, food eatery’s and housing association building it’s incredible
Everyone around there is there own little community and I don’t want that to change therefore I would recommend visiting Chinatown you can pass somebody in the street and there smilly they’ll say hello or ‘Ni Hao’ or have a sit down and admire the view or bring a picnic to the park
Chinatown is situated close to the Hustle & Bustle of the city centre I will definitely return again
T. T.
Being the first China town in Europe is what makes it significant. I was hoping for more Chinese influenced surrounds as Chinese shops, restaurant but it wasn't the case. It had been earmarked for more development but sadly that went to pot. Still I found the plaques interesting.
A. W. #.
China town is usually quiet during the day time but in the evening you will find people having quiet meals and singing karaoke. It is only lively during celebrations annually during the Chinese New year period. It's definately a tourist attraction with the arch and local family run restaurants.
c. l.
The oldest Chinese community in Europe is in Liverpool. A magnificent wooden arch, hand crafted in a traditional Chinese methods, sits at the entrance to Chinatown, guarded by two beautiful statues.
The range of food on offer in this area is exceptional and very reasonably priced. Many events take place in Chinatown throughout the year with the New Year Celebrations being a highlight involving all of the city.
If in Liverpool, a visit to Chinatown is an absolute must.
R. C.
A great place for family fun
R. A.
At this time of year the whole area is decorated for the Chinese New Year (Feb 2018 - Year of the Dog), which transforms the whole area at night.
Some of the finest Chinese food in the UK can be found here.
N. K.
Stunning felt i was abroad with the beautiful blue skies
P. V.
I visited on the Chinese New year and it looked awesome. All different events were there.
K. E.
Visited Chinatown many times over the last 30 yrs, great place to go if you love Chinese food. Great choice of restaurants to choose from.
A. D. T.
A perfect place to visit in February when is the Chinese New Year. A good energy and fun around the streets of Liverpool
C. W.
Beautiful lights, ornate lamp posts, dragons and some beautiful restaurants, lovely friendly people x
S. D.
Lovely place. Love the Chinese structure. Amazing restaurants.
D. P.
A mixture of run-down and wonderfully vibrant. Great people, superb places to eat and drink.
P. N.
Impressive structure worth a visit but unfortunately everything was closed, need to visit in the evening.
M.
Very nice place. It is interesting because of its origin. The gate is nice both at night and during the day. It is also worth to cross the street where there are many restaurants with good Chinese food.
N. J.
Chinatown Gate in liverpool is one tourist attraction.i like it and in new Chinese year I was there.i saw a festival..
C. N.
Had a fab time in China Town for the lion and dragon dances/parade for Chinese New year. Lovely little stalls out and easy to access from town.
p. b.
Nice place for some Asian food and embracing the culture.
s. l.
Lovely place to go. Has a lot of interesting things
T.
Went to pick up some Evri parcels and took a detour through China town.
P. C.
Went for the Chinese New Year celebration. With the parade and myriad of performances, looked amazing. And so many Chinese restaurants nearby! Also, the arch happens to be the biggest Chinese arch outside of China.
M. B.
The gate was impressive but all the restaurants were shut at Saturday lunchtime (except for a bagel cafe😂). Perhaps it is more lively in the evening?
A. W.
It's oldest China town in Europe.
H. d. S.
Was such an amazing Chinese New Year festival.
I. “. D. S.
Unfortunately all the stores was close (on Tuesday) and it felt more like a car park than Chinatown
Y. S. (. G.
Nice old Chinese town
R. “. K.
A very great China town with a very nice looking arch, worth to take a look at day and evening time
G. T.
Could do with an injection of cash and more life. Needs some zhuzh.
M. S.
Great small Chinatown.
J. S.
I think my imagination of Chinatown is slightly different compared to what I've seen. In general, there's just nice gate, a couple of Chinese restaurants which are closed or under refurb. Manchester one is bit bigger but still autistic as the Liverpool one.
A.
Looked very nice at night, but was closed so want able to try the food.
S. M.
Down there for Chinese New year great atmosphere...
E. l.
Everything was amazing! Except it's really difficult to choose what to do. Because there is lots to do there. Other than that, everything was great!
E. C.
Go later in the day, not many restaurants we're open early afternoon. Thankfully the one we found was delicious.
J. D.
Brilliant meal awesome service 👍🏻
S. G.
Love the Chinese New Year celebrations.
G.
Admittedly I was just passing by on a tour bus but the gate itself looked fantastic. Next time I'm in Liverpool this will be a must visit place.
D. H.
2016 was our first visit to Liverpool for Chines New Year and it won't be the last. The celebration were bigger than in our home town and a great sight to see.
S. C. N.
It is said to be the first of its kind in an European city. Certainly has the feel of grandiose and the distinct Chinese influence cannot be missed. Iconic.
M. A.
Very nice place you can found a Chinese restaurants and groceries
J. D.
Good Chinese New Year celebrations.
L. J.
Nice but not very much to see. But the gate is worth taking a picture.
D. S.
Great meal out at Yuet Ben. Lovely food and people. The dry ribs are spectacular!
A. S. (. T.
I had a great experience here..the place is very clean and enormous..
J. D.
Great vibe here, really beautiful and great food. Not as elaborate as other China towns in the UK but it's a nice vibe in a good location in Liverpool
J. Y.
Not many Restaurants open in the day time.
K. P.
Very imposing monument but in a good way. Worth visiting if only for a great photo opportunity. It was quiet around there even though we were there on a Saturday afternoon.
N. C.
Everything seams abandoned it's beautiful to look at
H. S.
Too much town not enough China
K. M.
I only went to pick my daughter up from a restaurant, but just to see the gateway it was well worth it.
d. P.
Some very interesting shops and good restaurants
E. S.
Small neighborhood in the city center
K. G.
Very busy, lots of places to eat, reasonable prices
C. E.
Didn't try anywhere to eat and its not very big but still a nice place.
D. H.
Pervasive s I am spoiled with the Chinatown in Toronto
F. A.
Beginning to look a bit shabby!the area known as china town is a little away from.the centre of liverpool and is "run down"
J. S.
Best food ever
A. C.
Only 5% of the restaurants were open. Not really a oriental culture found there. Need more activity around.
F. H.
Nice place but not so many things to do. A few Chinese restaurants and take away.
J. C.
Great place to take the whole family and very friendly shops
J. H.
Rather disappointed. Other than the gateway which is in need of painting, there is nothing but a street of closed Chinese takeaways.
K. M.
The best Chinese community in the country best restaurants New capital amazing food
L. D.
This gate is beautiful and intricate and came as a lovely surprise as we were a bit lost at the time. It is worth a visit.
A. K.
Absolutely brilliant place to go for Chinese quasein, staff members are so helpful and friendly towards customers they always give generous portions of food a real pleasure and experience evrytime try it you will love it.
C. T.
Didn't go down the road but it seemed all closed, I was expecting a large outside community... outside dining.. street food... etc but it seem a road of restaurants.
J. W.
Pass through here on the way to all you can eat buffet in Liverpool lovely area just a standard District mainly inhibited by Eastern people according to one local resident when I asked about its origins and history and there is also a lovely oriental themed statue at the start of Chinatown it's large and it's lovely to look at
P. T.
Went to Liverpool for a couple of nights what a fantastic place really enjoyed it fantastic shops people really friendly
C. C.
I was there for the highly captivating Chinese new year celebrations very impressive to watch and noticed a whole string of great eateries and restaurants along the way and you're always guaranteed a warm welcome from our oldest community.
P. R.
A great photo opportunity if visiting Liverpool. Well worth a visit and not far from the City centre. Plenty of restaurants to choose from Chinese New Year is a must see and celebrate if visiting Liverpool.Enjoy the party for Year of the Rat 2020.If you enjoyed reading my review then don't forget to like it.
D. H.
Decent enough gate, street beyond does not really live up to the grand entrance. The restaurants maybe very good but we did not try them.
A. S. (.
Not much there apart from the entrance. Close to the cathedral which is worth a visit
H. s.
The place becomes more interesting when you get to know its customs, its parties and its people. The place becomes more interesting when you get to know its customs, its parties and its people.
The celebration of the Chinese new year is very good.
A. S.
One of the largest Chinese communities in Britain, with huge historical importance, the area is well worth the short walk from the city centre.
A. E.
Excellent place to visit Chinese New Year is a must
M. T.
We all had a really great day seeing the Dragon dancing and the fire crackers going off as well as all the other things going on around us.
M. P.
Huge! We had lovely food and the farm is wonderful.
D. R.
Lovely area of Liverpool. You know you're in Chinatown but the street furniture and of course the gate.
S. G.
Gate looked good but the street wasn't worth the visit. Especially not in the rain.
G. D.
Only walk through did not visit any shops or restaurants
A. B.
Not the smartest or the biggest China town but my favourite
S. P. M.
Its really beautiful but they haven’t refurbished it for years and in my opinion it need some touch ups
J. V.
I was there on 10am and everything was closed :(
G. I.
Impressive - largest Chinese arch outside mainland China. Also a nice added touch that nearby Street signs have both English and Chinese on them.
N. B.
Worth seeing, it's huge. Look out for the pulse giving all the information about it
A. W.
Stores and restaurants still close
T. G.
Wasnt very much open when we visited but love the main gateway
N. R.
It's been there for as long as I can remember and the people have always been welcoming and warm hearted in resent years I've strolled along with my daughter and the Chinese women always make a fuss of her they are lovely people!

Full of history, the oldest Chinese Community in Europe. The arch is a sight to behold especially in the evening.
M. S.
Was shocked how it looked really the last time we visited China 🇨🇳 town as gone down hill what a shame 😢
S. J.
Has a nice Chinese monument, definitely could do with some more work though, not much of a town though more a very quiet strip of road.
K. W.
We enjoyed Chinese New year festivities here.
J. N.
China Town was a bit quiet at 11am, but the food In The Bagelry was amazing, wasn't expecting such an awesome little place with 5 star service from amazing staff and unique food
L. M.
The largest Ceremonial Arch outside of China! Beautifully painted. Chinatown has been thriving over the past few years. The Bagelry and New China are especially recommended.
A. L.
Great Chinese food available through variety of shops and restaurants. Interesting Chinese sculptures are also a feature of this area of Liverpool.
C. B.
Looked interesting, but sadly everything was closed when I went, due to lockdown
n. w.
It looks an abandoned place. It is necessary some investment in the area.
r. a.
The gate is very nice. Good place to take photos even if you don't fancy Chinese food, like me.
J. E.
The front gate is magnificent, I know it's some history on that street but whit this covid19 everything is shut during day.
J. D.

H.
An area with a Chinese influenc with a concentration of Chinese owned businesses.
C. T.
Proper heavy merch active at early bells, best place to acquire merch, heavy times just chilling getting baked and seshing in China nowhere better for a good old sprayed haze.
N. S.
While a pretty gate.. the Chinatown itself is very small. Still a nice monument to represent Chinese cultures.
A. S.
It looks very grand to the entrance to some Chinese restaurants
h. f.
Nice Chinese food, the gate is amazing although there is not much movement here but in Chinese New year...
J. N.
It's a bit tired now, but it's a significant part of scouse sightseeing. Massive tourist must see, especially at sunset if you manage to get a decent pic of it!! If your here - might as well go to jumbo city for some food and deffo visit the little jazz bar on the corner opposite it.
G. Y.
You know you're in Chinatown as all the street signs are in both English and Chinese 😁
I. F.

S. C.
Just walked past.
d. e.
Whet past with my face mask on, on the way to the cathedral.
P. M.
Very clean and very tidy, but I don't understand Chinese and many places have no English interpretation, and I thought the Chinese were clever, lol.
Otherwise 5 stars all round.
m.
Visited here for Chinese New Year and it was great! Don't go if you have sensitive ears because they have firecrackers!!
P. G.

Spectacular gate at Entrance to Liverpool China Town, well worth a look, with some nice restaurants and cafes nearby, try the Bagelry.
S. D.
Friday 25th July 2014 when the Giant's descended upon Liverpool's Chinatown,it was estimated a million people saw the spectacular display through the streets of Liverpool,Grandma, the Young Girl, and Xolo the Dog were a huge success
T. M.
Always a lovely place, but be wary of the young boys who are often up to no good
A. L.
There is no market in Liverpool's China Town which is on Nelson Street through the magnificent Chinese Archway but you will find many restaurants there.
Some upmarket with quality linen table cloths and one with formica topped kitchen tables but all offer really good food .
There are some more Chinese Resaurants and Supermarkets in the area.
The largest Supermarket is near the bottom of Nelson Steet on the left as you walk downhill. This is the Chung Wah (entrance on Hardy Street) and is highly recommended. It is large and well stocked with its own car park. By comparison I recently found a small Supermarket on Berry Street where I buy my Jasmine Tea Bags in packs of 100. Really good!
If you are visiting Liverpool visit the area of China Town. Not everything is on Nelson Street.
G. W.
Nice place to visit and eat
E. L.

Chinatown Liverpool is a very nice place to go for a meal.
E. C.
The Chinatown Gate in Liverpool is the largest Chinese arch outside of mainland China.
Standing at 44 feet tall, the arch, or paifang, is one of the most striking landmarks in Liverpool. Adorned with over 200 dragons and guarded by two bronze lions, the Arch bears the Chinese characters for the simple message of "Chinatown."
The Arch was a gift from Shanghai, one of Liverpool's twin cities, in time for the Chinese New Year celebration in 2000. It was shipped piece by piece and carefully reconstructed on site.
Liverpool has the oldest Chinese community in Europe. In Liverpool's Chinatown, the street names are bilingual and even the street lamps and bollards are decorated to match the gate.
D. A.
