Reviews of Lunt Meadows Nature Reserve
J. R.
Peaceful Nature reserve on North Liverpool doorstep, good birdspotting opportunities , generally quite quiet. Parking available down gravel Road. Can't get very muddy in winter and floods regularly. No bins so please take rubbish and dog mess with you.

I enjoy coming here with my husband for walks.
We get some good photos of nature and birds in their natural habitat.
We would love to bring a family member here who is in a wheelchair but can't because of the gates throughout the place. I get why the gates are in place but this has also restricted disabled people from visiting and enjoying the nature reserve. It would be great if the gates could be swapped for wheelchair friendly ones.
The nature reserve itself is well maintained and we always enjoy our walks there.

Loved it. So close to us and not been before. Car park and a number of paths. We walked for 2 or 3 miles without retracing steps. A few hides to view the birds including a kingfisher
S. P.
Lovely place to come for a walk and distance yourself from it all for a while. It's good seeing all the wild life in it's natural habitat.

Lunt meadows is a local reserve to me there is plenty to see if you have a keen eye and patience I've seen everything from several warblers to marsh harriers bitterns buzzards the list is too long to write just get down there and see for yourself
M. F.
An amazing place for wildlife. An absolutely amazing reserve with well kept pathways and wildlife screens. Next to the River Alt. No toilets.
S. K.
Such a lovely place to go for a walk and see wildlife ( ps - don’t forget your binoculars!)
S. F. (.
Had an amazing walk around the nature reserve, it's well managed with clear trails marked and information boards available in locations to inform you more about the park and it's history.
T.
Great place for a walk, lovely nature reserve and free parking. Home to a variety of birds and some ancient history murals which teach you about the surrounding area. Lovely long walk however can get muddy in sections.
J. C.
Great place, lovely walk. Would've been 5 stars apart from NO BIN. Maybe that's why there's dog mess everywhere. We picked ours up but had to drive to the villiage to dispose of it. Council, please provide a bin, or bins.....
P. T.
Great news it's now 12th July 21 the area is now open and the bank on the River Alt is now repaired.
And work has been done on the paths.
So all is good news.

On my first visit I managed to photograph a Barn Owl, totally unexpected and so thrilled to see one. Will definitely return sometime soon.

Men please leave women walkers alone! I love this spot and like to walk here when I visit family nearby, but every time I've been to Lunt I've had male photographers trying to start up a conversation, and not in a normal way. Trying to talk to me from the bird hides while I'm walking on the path, or asking if I'm lost as I walk on the clearly marked, circular path where its impossible to get lost. It's a bit unnerving when I'm walking alone and there is often noone else around. I felt self conscious for the whole walk last time and sure enough, I had an awkward exchange with a bird watching man. I've not been back, I have walked elsewhere recently, I would love to go back.
M. R.
Lovely nature reserve, lots of wildlife to observe or just a place to relax and chill.

BE AWARE!!!!!!!!!
I was walking my dog earlier at Lunt and she stumbled across some suspicious dog treats left on the footpath near the 1st bridge. I managed to quickly pull her away but an hour later she was violently sick. She remains very poorly but luckily is still drinking plenty of water. I think they were either laced with poison or mixed in with rat pellets possibly. Keep an eye out for anything suspicious. Has anyone elses dog had the same problem today 01/01/22????

This is a good walking area. Lots to see! Best not to go on a cold windy day though unless very well dressed for the weather.
P. R.
Pleasant open spaces with a variety of habitats. Some viewing platforms to observe birds without disturbance.
M. M.
Lovely place. Plenty of wildlife and open space. Can get very muddy so wear appropriate footwear. Some parking. The car park shuts at 5pm.
M. W.
Fantastic place for a walk lots of different birds to see
P. D.
Superb place for wildlife. Especially the short eared owl's.
J. T.
A lovely place to spend a bit of time enjoying nature. We saw lots of birds and also saw our first Black-necked Grebe. We would definitely recommend a visit but wrap up, as on colder days it can get pretty windy!Having never visited before and seeing an item on Northwest tonight,we decided to go and explore.Fabulous

Bittern here with young if you are lucky to see it, but you will see a Swan Goose and lots of other birds too, lovely walk paths bit lumby just take care it is country side.👍👍🐦🦅🦆🦉
A. S.
Free parking when the gates are open. Good walks around the edge of the reserve. Boots recommended in winter - not your £100 Nike's!
Plenty of birds. Saw Stonechat (M&F) today, but owls not up whilst we were there.
Lots of birders, but they are all pretty friendly and happy to share knowledge.
P. S.
Maturing nicely. Nice walks of varying lengths and good mixed habitats.
D. S.
Only walk around the short route, but lots of bird species to see. Really enjoyed my first visit. Although dog walkers (not all) are not following the few simple rules, keep dogs on a lead and take dog muck with you and put it in a bin, it ain't difficult.
I. D.
Had first walk there today beautiful will be back.
P. K.
Lovely place. Path could do with some work as I know my car doesn't like it!! Shame some people cannot follow simple rules and keep dogs on leads.
w.
A really great place but multiple limited opening gates across the paths make it very difficult for cyclists (you have to lift your bike over each gate) and impossible for wheelchair users.
D. B.
Superb Lancashire Wildlife Trusts Reserve not far from Sefton Village and Liverpool. Fantastic spot for insects and birds. Being close to Martin Mere lots of migratory swans, geese and lapwings .
Only visited for the first time today but it will be top of the Nature walks list now - cracking spot and well recommend.
S. S.
Great place to walk. Watch out for dog muck. Friendly people to get good bird updates plus the board at the gate. Catch the short eared owls during winter is a must
C. C.
Lovely place. Loads of different birds. Post code on website takes you to an entrance in the village without a car park. Car park is just outside the village
B. D.
Nice enough for a good walk, plenty of parking, good paths. Site of archaeological importance due to finds of Messolithic arrow heads. Worth a visit.
J. B.
Beautiful & peaceful place, shame about thoughtless dog walkers letting their dogs mess the place up. This is after all a nature reserve, any wildlife present is soon scared off by dogs.
M. H.
Beautiful place, hard to believe it's just a 10 to 15 minute drive from home. Plenty of wildlife to see aswell.
S. S.
Such a escape from the city. Wonderful wildlife especially early and late when the dog walkers have returned home.
P. T.
A great reserve comprising water meadows by the river Alt. A daytime car park. Good for wildlife, dog walking and peace and quiet
D. T.
The folk who volunteer here are wonderful!
Thank you.
D. A.
Great nature reserve for photographers and bird watchers. Good walks for family's and dogs, also. Free parking!
R. K.
Lovely peaceful retreat from the busy roads. Swans on the River Alt and lots of other birds to see.
n. T.
Fantastic place for a afternoon. Saw 2 barn owls and 2 short eared owls on my first visit although they didn't show on my second visit
n. b.
Newly acquired Site that is steeped in History and already an important migratory and residential site for hundreds of waterfowl and birds of Prey. Please select Satellite Image Map for more detail of the Reserve.
A. B.
So near to Liverpool but great nature reserve for birds, bit empty of other amenities
H. S.
Excellent place to visit although it was a bit muddy after all the rain
C. S.
Beautiful, peaceful, lovely walk to see the wildlife ❤ on the doorstep.
P. D.
Nice walk, wetland and woodland.
Watch where you step, lots of dog muck, some thoughtless owners not prepared to pick up the mess.
M. S.
Quiet walk, plenty of birds. Reachable by bus (plus 10-15 minute walk).
D. H.
It was a great, new experience. If it wasn't for Storm Ciara we'd have explored more.
L. W.
Lovely unexpected find after lunch at the Punchbowl.
J. M.
