It was my first time visiting last night to watch Deadpool 2 and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The screen looks great and the sound is deep. It was so nice to visit a cinema that don’t charge extortionate prices and the old school intermission break was welcomed. Will definitely be my cinema of choice from now on.

I recently hired this venue for five of us as a birthday surprise for my daughter's 30th birthday as she always wanted see her most favourite film in a cinema. What a beautiful, vintage cinema, absolutely gorgeous inside and out. All the staff who we spoke to on the phone and who where there were so fantastic, helpful and friendly. My daughter was absolutely blown away by the experience of seeing a photo montage of herself on screen with music we had chosen, to watching her film. There was just five of us, and it was so special. I had looked for ages to find a cinema that could do this and not only was this the most loveliest by far, it was far cheaper to hire than other cinemas. Thank you for making a wish come true, it was a magical experience.

First visit today with the kids and what a lovely surprise. This cinema is very special, I can see why the locals have campaigned successfully over the years every time it's been threatened with closure. Now its run independently, shows all the latest films, has old school charm a plenty, only one screen, a tiny office/ snack bar curtained entry into the main auditorium and even an interval halfway through the film! Friendly staff and charm makes me want to return again soon.
C. P.
Such a delightful place to visit. A good old fashioned cinema that makes it an experience to visit. Love the current festive scene they've installed at the front. The staff are super friendly and helpful, seats are comfy and the popcorn is tasty whilst not breaking the bank.
V. Y.
Lovely cinema that is one of the best and the seats are so comfy .going back many years .
P. H.
Beautiful. I love this cinema, might not have all the modern facilities of your multiplex but it has that special something for me that I can't explain. Maybe it's because it brings back memories of my dad taking me to the cinema when I was a kid and countless fun trips with my own children as toddlers and now as teens. Plus the interval, never fails to make me smile. Special place.

Great little cinema which retains the charm of old picture houses many of which are now sadly lost to development. The quirky establishment has a small bar serving hot drinks and beer and wine, and my favourite part is the intermission halfway through the film (standard on every showing) where ice cream is on sale at the front of the cinema stage. It also eases your mind if you've had a large coke and need to visit the loo.
The quality and sound of the cinema is great (I'm no audiophile though). Don't expect luxurious leather recliner seats - these are the original springy red material standard cinema seats, and in my opinion they add to the charm and experience of the place.
G. L.
A small family run cinema that still has the ice cream lady come out during an interlude.
Only 1 screen but that's made up for no kids
or yobs running around, & not overpriced like some of the big cinemas throughout the city.
A thoroughly nice evenings entertainment with plenty of pubs/ eating places nearby to suit most people's tastes.
V. B.
Fantastic old fashioned cinema that still has an interval half way through the movie. As well as serving popcorn and ice cream it also serves alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Tickets can be booked online or purchased when you get there.
P. F.
Almost exactly as I remember it from many, many, many years ago! The staff are really welcoming and friendly and the seats are amazingly comfy! A fantastic experience - especially with the mid film intermission to buy ice cream... just like the old days!! 😁😁
Highly recommended!!
E. C.
An absolute delight, Woolton Picture House is the oldest cinema in Liverpool and one of only a very small number of independent cinemas.
The seats are comfortable and there is plenty of leg room. The picture and sound quality are good. Prices are reasonable for tickets and refreshments.
S. P.
Lovely old cinema; a piece of history. Friendly staff, reasonable/cheap prices, and they still have an intermission - perfect time to buy an ice cream! Loads of leg room, slanted floor (not tiered seats), wheelchair accessible, suitable for all ages. A really great place!
T. S.
Charming single screen cinema. This place is so historic feeling and shows great films. I always try to make It's a Wonderful Life at Christmas as it's an amazing experience at Woolton Picturehouse!
The seating is comfortable and wide, with wide aisles that you can comfortably pass people sitting if needed. Prices are comparatively low and the staff are always friendly. Recommended highly!
J. C.
The ticket price is very good value for money compared to other cinemas in the area. It has comfy seating and the food/drink from the little shop is very reasonably priced too. It now has quite a large and very high quality screen compared to the one it had a few years ago.
A. T.
Went to see a film over the Christmas period and was a lovely experience. Bar menu is limited but that’s not what you’re here for. The cinema is a tad tired but full of history and nostalgia. As mentioned there is an ice cream interval which is quaint but I’d happily skip it. Fun film experience though.
G. P.
This is one of the oldest independent cinemas in Liverpool. It has a quaint charm, with 1 screen and the habit of pausing a film midway for an ice-cream interval, which freaks people out on their first visit as they often think the film has broken :-). To be honest, it has seen better days, but the locals love it and support it. We don't want to lose our wonderful cinema. The staff are friendly and helpful and it has a license, so you can enjoy a drink with your film.
L. S.
Incredible place. We went on Halloween night to watch The Shining, so couldn't have been a better setting! The interior and old features of the building are absolutely fascinating. The surround sound isn't ideal (doesn't drown out noisy eaters or talkers), but this is to be expected!
J. C.
Great old fashioned picture house. Staff could try and be a bit friendlier. Should take a leaf out of the plaza in Crosby book. Much friendlier place and down to earth prices. But still a nice cinema.
L.
Historic venue and a real blast from the past for anyone who remembers going to the flicks in the pre-Odeon era. Tucked away on a side street the understated exterior gives way to an enormous theatre. I love that they have an interval. What better excuse to buy ice-cream! Word of warning though - they don't show trailers so make sure you're there at the advertised showing time or you'll miss the start of your film (like l did)
H. E.
Visited a couple of days ago for the new Mama Mia Film...which was excellent!
We had pre-booked tickets, so were efficiently crossed off a register as we entered.😀
When my friend booked, no seats were allocated, so we queued up outside for about half an hour before opening, to ensure that the 4 of us could get seats together....however, when we got inside, blocks of seats had been reserved, so rather than taking our first choice of seats, we simply had to choose the best of what was left....somewhat frustrating!😡
Still like The Woolton though...comfy seats & old school ice cream interval!😀🍦😀
L. G.
Fabulous old fashioned picture house, lovely comfortable chairs with lots of leg space. Still has an interlude half way through the film with ice cream sold by staff from a tray. It's great.
I. M.
Step back in time, one screen cinema with comfy seating and, best of all, a mid film intermission, with ice cream seller's coming into the auditorium. Makes visiting the cinema an extra bit special
G.
Great little old cinema but only let down by not having it's own car park. Go back to the days before multiplex. Just watched It's a Wonderful Life. Lots of tears in G8/G9. Fabulous Christmas atmosphere and a great crowd of people. Will be going again next year.
J. B.
Great example of cinemas of old. Single screen, velvet curtains. Run by enthusiasts. Shows current films. I recently saw Stan and Ollie here. Since the film was set in 1950's Britain, the vintage cinema was an ideal setting.
I think this cinema dates from 1927
I think it's about the last surviving single screen cinema in Liverpool.
So use it..or lose it.
G. F.
Amazing place. A landmark in Woolton Village. It's like going back in time when you go in (in a good way) plenty of leg room, Very comfy seats, serves beer and wine and still has an interval for a loo break or grab an icecream. The popcorn is lovely too!
C. T.
Proper old school cinema with nostalgic atmosphere. Cheap cinema tickets and good range of drinks : coffee, beers wine and soft drinks ; and snacks. Limited to two showings a day and very popular around Christmas for the classic film collection showings but we'll worth it!
m. G.
Hello staff at woolton cinema,
I went to the showing of Downtown this evening , have been few years ago but because you don’t have a loop system for servere hard of or people that wear hearing aids I was sadly unable to hear, not your fault.
But you still a wonderful cinema with fabulous staff.
Maybe you could appeal through Facebook or other ways to generate the costly business of fitting a loop system.
I still very much enjoyed the evening anyway.
👍👋👏👌💐🏆🙏
D. P.
Fantastic old fashioned one screen cinema. They even have an intermission.
C. O.
Great picture house, staff friendly and helpful. Could do with a member of staff in for the film to try and cut out bad behavior during the film. Can't believe people think its OK to just drop rubbish on the floor and allow their kids to mess about during the film.
R. “. K.
Friendly family run cinema. Awesome price compared to others. Intermission is great. Little gem hidden away. Only problem for me was the sound isn't very loud.
V.
Lovely night out with friends to watch Bridget jones baby.. the picture house is perfect it's a traditional cinema with leg room, comfy seats,, and a great atmosphere it's lovely to see that there are still proper cinemas left. I will definitely be going back to this iconic beautiful place again thank you for a lovely night of comfy seating, a chilled glass of wine and a room full of ladies laughter it's a night to remember perfect...
A. S.
Used to go to this cinema as a child. Always wanted to visit again. Went to see Downton abbey which I thought was great film to see at this cinema. I like the fact that nothing much has changed. Please keep it going. I look forward to visiting again.
L. c.
Beautiful place. Gem of our city. Brilliant you can now have a cheeky glass of wine.. live visiting here for special films especially at Christmas
M. G.
By far the best cinema in Liverpool, if not, Merseyside. Far cheaper and cleaner than other cinemas in the city. Fantastic area and cheap food, good selection of showings and they always have an intermission (make sure you get an ice cream)!
J. P.
I have been attending at this cinema for more
years than I care to remember so totally agree
with all the positive reviews.
Recently both my wife and I and indeed a number
of other cinemagoers have felt that the film has
been spoilt by the volume of the film.
It is our intention to take a number of friends with
us on saturdaynight to see "Mountain between us"
and see if they feel the same.
I would be grateful if any other cinemagoers feel
the same and ask they let the Cinema know
many thanks jp
H. P.
Recently discovered this does the mum and baby screenings, what a wonderful idea! Gorgeous little cinema and the staff are always so lovely and friendly. Plus the area is beautiful. Love it!
K. S.
Still the best place to go to see a film! No adverts to bore you with! It shows all the new films when they come out. It's clean, comfortable & you get an intermission to get more snacks & drinks 😁
S. j.
I've been to this cinema many times over the years, and it never disappoints. Am posting a review after my mum and dad went last week. My dad has Parkinson's, and froze in the foyer while my mum was getting the car. The staff could not have been more helpful, stopped him falling over and helped him down the steps and into the car when my mum arrived. Thanks very much to all concerned!
S. B.
Fantasic little cinema in the heart of Woolton Village. Popcorn and other snacks seem very cheap compared to any chain cinema I've been to and the single screen gives a really nice traditional experience. The cinema also seems to draw a really good crowd of people which only adds to the experience.
D. R.
I love watching films in this historic building, the last single screen cinema in Liverpool. There's an interval for ice cream like the old days and the price is much less than a multiplex.
D. B.
Loved this place, first time visiting and would definitely return, we went for the christmas showing if elf, great selection of snacks and even a intermission! Highly recommend
t. r. d.
Old-fashioned values maintained impeccably; warm, cosy, wonderfully atmospheric; toilets INSIDE like all old cinemas, so NO nasty draughts with people constantly going out of auditorium as at the soulless multiplexes--once in, you're IN, settled in comfort, and big heavy drapes are fully drawn over the two doors to the foyer just before the show starts. Bliss!
It has survived intact and is unique on Merseyside, for even the remaining old Plaza cinema, Crosby has been divided up with several screens.
Loyal, discerning patrons understand the value of what they have and make sure the Woolton Picture House will survive another 90 years.
M. D.
Went to see an "old film" with my daughter. Lengthy queue so glad we booked ahead. Still has an interval old decor but lovely building.
H. C.
Apparently it's the oldest cinema in Liverpool. Comfortable seat, good range of drinks and snacks. Woolton is a great place for an early evening meal.
R. H.
Quintessential retro cinema, when you're in there it feels like it's war time and you're doing your best to survive while also having a great time. I walk out of therr feeling like Gatsby the next time I go I might wear a tuxedo.
J. D.
Great old picturehouse! It has an interval which is never seen in modern cinemas but makes the cinema experience superior, namely as it's an opportunity to buy ice cream +/- toilet break!
j. n.
Have been attending this cinema for a life time (literally!) The seats are better but fundamentally it's the same cosy place to watch a film.
H. W.
A good traditional cinema, comfy seats, room to stretch your legs and there's even the good old interval for refreshments etc. Lovely atmosphere and period surroundings not souless like most modern cinema complexes.
P. H.
Great local cinema, slightly eccentric and tired but very nice comfy seats and good prices. Often very busy for popular films but can book on line.
A. P.
It was a pleasant evening thoroughly enjoyed it from the moment i went in a smile appeared on my face to the moment the film ended took me back to my childhood. And was cheaper than going to the odeon .Will be going again soon thankyou woolton cinema. X
P. J.
Classic picture house experience. Original seats, kiosk in the foyer, intermission, usherettes and won't break the bank. Screen and sound good too
