Reviews of Alexandra Bohlinger Pilates & Osteopathy

Alex is nothing short of extraordinary. I was a bit broken when I met her at the start of 2021 through her Osteopathy work.
By March I signed on as a Pilates client. She has taken this overweight, back and hip pain riddled thirty something and through 6 weeks of pilates I am transformed.
I have lost over a stone in weight, been pain free most of the time and have learnt to connect with body. I am just at the start of my journey and I can't wait for what to is come!
From rolls of fat to starting to get real ab definition, the biggest change in those six weeks has been my mindset. Pilates makes me happier and I have Alex to thank for that.
How I hold myself has changed, my confidence is up and I count down to my pilates days. Alex makes it fun and the hour goes so quickly!
My advice for anyone considering it is just do it, Alex will look after you, teach you and push you in all the right ways.

I had always been fit and healthy - weight training, running, spin classes, pilates, swimming but after an emergency c-section for the birth of my twins in 2018 I felt like my body was destroyed. I had a very slow and painful recovery from the surgery, struggling to even raise myself off the loo, new pain in my joints and lower back and a whole world of pain either side of my scar from the surgery. My lower abdomen felt like it had been stitched back together too tightly and was pulling me down. Doctors told me it was normal to feel like this after my surgery and that I had to just give myself time to heal. So as a result, I put weight on, was depressed with how I looked and felt, couldn’t play with my kids as my body was in constant pain and I was scared they would bump my scar.
I tried a few pilates classes to try and build up some strength but I found that the teacher didn’t understand my body (I am hypermobile) and I would end up getting hurt which only depressed me more. I was a mess. Physically and emotionally.
I started to see an osteopath for my lower back and SI joint pain and after a few treatments she suggested I try attending a pilates session with Alexandra to build back some strength.
My first class Alexandra couldn’t even touch me around my scar to correct my posture. It was just too painful. She suggested we try stretching it out. Wow. Did it hurt! But wow. What a difference. My pain was significantly reduced after just one session. A few classes later and the pain was completely gone. Almost 4 years after my surgery! For 4 years I had been walking around with this pain!
I have now attended both pilates sessions and a couple of osteo sessions with Alexandra and through a combination of strength training and stretching, without over extending my joints, I have gone from strength to strength. The difference is incredible. The pain around my scar is gone. The tightness in my lower abdomen is gone and I actually have some feeling there again. My lower back pain is gone and I no longer wake up in pain. While I still have flare ups in my SI joint its much more manageable after a better nights sleep. Oh yeah - added bonus, I no longer wake in the night for a pee!
I feel taller, I play with my kids - I was even able to run alongside my daughter as she learns to ride a bike, and I feel like I have a new connection with my body and a better understanding of how to care for it. Alexandra reminded me that I am strong. It has been hard work but its 100% worth it. If you put the effort in you will see results.

Alex is an excellent teacher with unparalleled classical Pilates knowledge. Each private reformer session she has taken into account my body's specific needs whilst also making it a proper workout for me!

After 8+ years of searching for answers, being to 3 osteopaths and 4+ doctors (and almost lost hope of feeling better) I have found Alexandra and finally solved the issues with my health.
Alexandra has a very scientific and holistic approach. She explained how everything in body is connected, why this happened and I felt better from the first session. Moreover, she showed how to avoid it in the future and be a friend to your own body.
What we worked with and healed:
SIJ dysfunction, Snapping Hip Syndrome and TMJ alignment dysfunction and shoulder rotator cuff muscles tendinopathy.
I was with my clicking jaw to dentist and physiotherapist. With my joints at the bottom of the spine and clicking hips I went to orthopedist. Then a few osteopaths. More than 8 years of searching, tries and errors, and hearing: seems like there’s nothing you can do about it / you need surgery / etc. … I wanted to find the core of the problem, but me and doctors only saw the consequences: migraines, numbness in fingers, meniscus damage, back pain.. the list goes on!
And then I met Alexandra. Who found the roots of all of this. And showed the perfect combination of osteo treatment and classical pilates. I feel so good and strong now. Boy, I wish all people knew how awesome their bodies are if you just help to let go the “wrong way” and teach it the “right way” that you can implement right here, right now and be healthy.

This was my first time seeing an osteopath, but not the first time I went to a specialist trying to solve my health questions.
Finally I have found a specialist who:
- determines not only the localisation of pain, but also its true source;
- can not only determine the source of the disbalance, but also release completely the tightness of the tissues, which disrupts blood circulation and nutrition of that area of the body;
- accepts the work of the body as a whole, interconnected organs and systems, sees the mutual influence of the parts on each other;
- a specialist who strives to teach his patient the “this is how you can help yourself and be healthy later without my help” method, physiologically, in a timely manner, instead of making a client an addict of a “quick pills” or “only this services”.

Alexandra, all I can say is she is wonderful. I had a rotator cuff injury and was sent for physiotherapy, after 2 phone calls and 1 face to face session I was discharged, and left with continuous pain and discomfort from the same injury. I decided to seek help myself. That's when I met Alexandra. After the 1st session I felt completely 'new,' the pain and discomfort had gone. Alexandra is so welcoming and professional, her hands are honestly Magic! I highly recommend her.

When I first started training with Alex, I was straight away impressed with her great expertise in classical Pilates and her challenging but cheerful classes. After a while, I began to have one-on-one sessions with Alex and a friend, and I really loved how Alex was able to focus so exactly on our specific abilities and concerns and to work with us to make us stronger and more flexible in the relevant areas and overall. I don’t think I had ever had the chance to work in such specific detail and with such expert guidance on all the little connecting muscles in my body, taking care to train them to work together harmoniously, as well as working to improve my posture and general strength in ways that felt holistic and like a fantastic long-term investment in my body. Alex has changed my entire outlook on how my body works and how to challenge and heal it in a healthy and sustainable way, and for that I will always be grateful to her. I currently still try to attend Alex’s classes whenever I can, and hope to have one-on-one sessions with her again as well in the future. I wholeheartedly recommend Alex as a teacher for anyone interested in classical Pilates and for anyone just trying to become stronger and healthier – she is outstanding in what she does.

Alex is so knowledgable and really helps me to understand the areas in my back which have pain & why. She always explains why the area is potentially hurting & ways I can stretch to help combat the pain. I am so glad I found Alex & will forever be grateful to her for helping me sort my back out!

Alexandra Bohlinger completely changed the way I feel about my body through the excellent method of classical Pilates that she imparts in her constantly encouraging, "tough-love" way. She not only talks the talk, she walks the walk. She inspired me not only to change my body through Pilates, but also my lifestyle. I have tried almost everything - but my go to workout is Pilates. It's not just a workout, but an essential part of my daily routine. I could never have imagined being so completely absorbed in Pilates. I have to say truthfully, it's all because of Alexandra. If you want someone who seriously knows TRUE Pilates (the original, classical method as taught by Joseph Pilates), change how you look and how you feel, how you carry yourself - you can't get any better than Alexandra Bohlinger.

I started having 1:2:1 classes with Alex about a year ago and am now continuing online with group classes during the pandemic. She is an excellent teacher who creates a personal routine that pushes you creating confidence whilst ensuring that your body can cope. Which is very important for me, as I suffer from longstanding RA and flare up easily if I am not careful. The classical pilates training Alex is doing is very personalised and I feel amazing after. My body is a lot stronger and healthier and is starting to show results, which I am thrilled about. Her osteopathy background also gives her a great advantage to adjust the excercises to suit personal changing needs in clients with health conditions, like me. A personal investment worthwile. I can not recommend Alex strong enough and just wish I had found her years ago!

I knew Alex from her private sessions and mat classes. All of what she teaches involves classic techniques, so the sessions are as effective as possible. Some of the moves seem "crazy" and we use a lot of "toys" but that's what keeps me interested in continuing. The way my body feels afterward is incredible - I'm strong, flexible and continue dancing, doing aerials, and generally doing other "crazy" activities that I dream up! The focus is on core strength which has helped me eliminate knee pain and completely heal shoulder pain from injuries. The value in having a smart teacher is clear. She can explain what you should be feeling so well that it feels she's there with you coaching. One-on-one attention in a zoom class is hard, but she's creative enough to manage to do it!

I am a Contemporary Pilates teacher, dipping my toe into the Classical reportoire for personal and professional development. I wanted to deepen my undestanding of the original Joseph Pilates exercises. I could not have found a better teacher! First off, to have a second generation Pilates teacher to work with is worth every penny, and so worth the 5 and half hour round trip.
Her depth of knowledge of the exercises, the tweeks are incredible. I have found her to be understanding, professional and approachable. Each week I learn so much more about the reportoire.
I would not hesitate to recommend Alex, its worth the trip, whether you are in Blackheath, central London, or even the South East.

Even though I spend hours in the pool each week perfecting technique and building strength and fitness, doing Pilates with Alexandra helps in ways that the gym and pool cannot. Pilates, as intended is incredibly hard work! I can state unashamedly that my Pilates sessions are the hardest workout of my week.

(Translated) My experience as Alexandra's student is fantastic. I suffered from psoitis - an inflammation of the ilios psoas - for more or less 3 years. I have gone through several doctors, physiotherapists, Pilates teachers, but it was only with her that I managed to heal. In the first session, she took about 30min to interview me to find out my health history since she, apart from being an experienced Pilates teacher, is an Osteopath, so we started the class. For the first time I came out of a Pilates session without pain and with a wonderful "loose leg" feeling. Detail: the session was online !! Since then I have been training with her and I feel better, stronger and learning this wonderful method. I highly recommend this professional.
