Reviews of Battersea Arts Centre

Great evening out to see the Sleeping Beauty and the Beast panto. Great selections of drinks and crisps at the bar. The children absolutely loved it. Will be on the lookout for next year's panto at Battersea Arts Centre.

We saw We Are as God's. First time coming here. I like that the building looks like it has kept its original decoration although some walls are a bit worn (maybe intentionally shabby chic). The ceiling in the entrance hall is beautiful above the staircase. The cast were in each room performing multiple pieces at once which were passionate and energetic. How they danced like that for so long was an amazing achievement. It was nice to explore the building and come across performances even on the roof however at times we saw empty rooms and luckily by chance saw some big performances in the downstairs hall. I'm sure we missed lots of great performances being elsewhere in the building or waiting in a room expecting something to start.
Coming here for another show. Hope it's as good.

An amazing venue and the first to be a relaxed venue. A real treat to perform here. Wonderful facilities, staff so welcoming and helpful.

Took my second dose of the vaccine there. The staff was lovely and the place is amazing. I want to go back to see it working as usual. Look how cute it is!!
S. M.
Absolutely beautiful venue. We supplied our DJ equipment here for a film shoot and just love the rustic feel!
P. P.
Excellent venue for a family wedding apart from one aspect. My daughter in law asked for a quiet space to feed her baby and was directed to the disabled toilet which didn't have a chair to sit on. This is not acceptable. As major renovations are taking place some thought as to where nursing mothers can feed their babies quietly and discreetly should be given ..
K. P.
I was here for the "he's dead" play and it was such an experience!
The pub inside was really nice and I enjoyed myself a pint from their local brewery - freedom.
Y. M.
It is great back from all disasters in the past. I am very happy to see it is supported and loved by locals. I went a Xmas pant then met a lots of neighbors.

Newly renovated arts centre right by Clapham Junction station. It’s a hotbed of smaller but excellent theatre and performance shows but also has a large hall for big hitters. The bar is great and the overall atmosphere of the building is incredible. You can feel the history but also have a sense of latitude in creating something new and exciting. Wish I lived nearby.
R. D.
'We are as gods' was one of the most outstanding performances I have ever seen.
A great use of an amazing space
Bravo
P. S.
Saw Mark Thomas last night superb show great venue lovely bar easy to get to... Good night.
S. G.
Every where was filled with exhibitions that where different from other art exhibitions that I have seen. Nice building and was located on a busy main road, it was not on a busy day not many people in the building the day I visited and the weather was not good.
C. M.
Terrific multipurpose venue. Great event there this morning for Wandsworth Enterprise month. Eclectic decor throughout the building whilst respecting needs of contemporary businesses and arts patrons. Fun venue.
F. W.
We went to see a comedy show, which was brilliant. Comfy seats and all had a good view of the stage. Had a burger in the bar which wasn’t very good though.
J. N.
The show was amazing. The after show gig was perfect. The building looks gorgeous. The renovations following the fire have been done so well. All staff we spoke to were super helpful, polite and friendly. The roquefort salad was delicious.
S. M.
What an amazing place. The decor is shabby chic with original mosaic floor tiles and wall paintings.
We attended a beautiful wedding here last Friday and the main hall was decked in magical fairy lights. So lovely.
The food was delicious and the service was faultless.
I. L.
Newly opened art center restored after fire engulfed the building. Great place to spend some time with friends, have a drink or watch a performance in the main hall.
C. M.
Visited for the filming of Portrait Artist of the Year 2020. It was a really great experience, well organised and fascinating to watch. We received a drink and cake in the cafe which was delicious. There are good facilities and the location is easy to get to. The ladies toilets really need improving or cleaning more regularly as they were a mess and most had no toilet paper or didn't flush.
N. H.
Superb venue, great staff, very good looking bar and drinks choices, wide variety of shoes and events. BRILLIANT Daniel Kitson Keep Show currently on, January 2019

Closed due to COVID19 restrictions and used as a,vaccination centre but coffee shop is now open

Nice venue, saw an amazing show by Paper Birds. The bar is nice and has a good array of finger foods, including cheese platters and potato wedges- good gluten free choices.
A. A.
My favourite place in the area. Work, chat, drink and eat, take pictures, whatever you want - this place is quite diverse and relaxed. It’s always welcoming and artsy. I absolutely adore the ambiance ! Another good thing is that there is always something new going on. In a word, LOVE.
A. O.
Atmospheric architecture with heaps of character , where creative people can come together and commune in theatre arts and social unity . Lovely building and great cafe. Not just for the hipster in you ....
N. M.
Great centre. Also used for COVID19 mass vaccination
J. B.
Great hall, strong arts vibe, good bar, friendly staff. Attended Proms concert 3pm 27 July 2019.
M. S.
Great small theatre! Saw one here and found it really enjoyable! Nice area to sit down for a drink beforehand as well.
T. M.
Fantastic venue, great crew working there and the building fabulous inside, go see the place well worth a look inside.
M. M. D.
If you want your wedding day and after party contact the B.A.C for the details
l. g.
Superb offering and great setting. Will be back
i. g.
The art centre itself gets you to appreciate what the building has gone through, being involved in a fire, the building still stands strong offering a wide range of programmes for recreational and entertainment purposes
V.
Yep, cool af venue, shame about the beer.

It is a really nice place. My first visit. I went to see Bucket List, a risky play depicting the current situation of Mexico and U.S.A. with NAFTA agreement. Unfortunately there were a group of people sitting right behind me with a low volume radio playing for almost the whole show. At first I thought I was going schizophrenic because no one seemed to be annoyed by it. Then, l realised it was coming from a backpack behind me. I told the woman and she totally new what I was talking about. Why did she stopped it then and not before? Anyway, very distracting not nice. Please next time be sure to remind people to check on their mobiles before the show begins. 😒🙂
M. M.
Got the COVID vaccine done here and it was perfect. No queue, not much wait time, kind and informative staff. The inside also looked pretty and welcoming
O. M.
Very nice venue, amazing live big band swing music when we were there
l. T.
Fantastic venue, great atmosphere and brilliant staff
I. E.
very very cool place. been there to see tank on March 2017.
b. m.
This is a fantastic historic building. It suffered from a fire in the great hall a few years ago but it is all restored and open again. Great place to see theatre. They also hold other events such as art fairs. It also has a lovely cafe/bar with high ceilings and vegan options. You can hire rooms here for events. Thespians hang out here.
H. B.
Still carrying out restoration work during my visit, january 2022.
S. B.
Beautifuly festive and welcoming.
M. M.
Lovely place, was there for UK Beatbox Championship 2018! Staff are friendly and place is beautiful!
B. W.
This is a wonderful multi-purpose venue. With gorgeous old halls for the theatre productions and classes, the venue is fully accessible with lifts, ramps, accessible as well as gender neutral toilets and even a "chill space" for sensory overload situations. Really thought through and beautifully done.
The café has reasonable prices and lots of space as well.
D. W.
Wonderful to experience live music again in a acoustically superior venue. Staff so welcoming as always. X
C. C.
Excellent facilities met the catering manager good guy
L. H.
Fabulous, newly renovated since the fire! Beautiful theatre space.
M. M.
Election rally for the LibDems. Jo Swinson is a charismatic speaker.Interesting to see how the Battersea Arts Centre has recovered from the catastrophic fire.
M. Z.
Thank u for the immersive dance performance last week, it was amazing!
M. Z.
Very interesting old building, its massive and you can get lost in the corridors. Great place for live performance.
H. K.
The refurbishment is great! BAC is even better than it's former self. The main theatre is a glorious space with excellent sight lines from the raked seating and good acoustics. The bar serves tapas and is well priced. The quality of production here is always very strong. It's a big space so there's often more than one show going on each evening so make sure you're in the right ticket collection queue!
A. P.
Went there for my second jab,i wish i have taken the names of the people who have been took care of me,i can't tell them enough how much I'm greatfull for them ,with my bad anxiety they all of them took a good care of me stayed there with me ,i have been so scared but they didn't left me alone even for a minute! Thank you so much once again🥰
S. L.
All of the events/plays I have seen here have been great! This is definitely one of Battersea’s gems, the bar downstairs is really cosy and offers a wide range of drinks, the building itself is beautiful and worth seeing and last but not least they have many ongoing programs supporting the local community which is always a plus :)
A. B.
Great building & facilities. Recently underwent a big refurbishment.
J. S.
An absolute local gem with a great line up of arts and music programme to go with it. A definite must to visit and have a drink at scratch bar. The bar seems to have lost its charm a little with takeaway box style food on offer..
K. B.
Went to watch Society of Alumni and they were amazing... The venue is a nice space also!
Q. D.
Possibly my best theatre experience in my whole life. The production of Orpheus with Little Bulb Theatre was simply amazing. The humour was cleverly done, the props were designed with a minimum style but super effective due to actors’ acting skills. Every single actor could sing and play at least one instrument. A simple story, but was told with immense emotions of music. The music selection were a feast from classical to jazz to French jazz to soul to omg I can’t describe. I cried and I laughed. I don’t usually laugh at slap stick joke hence why they have a very clever humour style. I would love to go back and watch the same play any time again. The seating were simple folded chair but with super comfort to it. Highly recommend front row from row 5/6. Go for it.
s. m.
really organized staff and fantastic experimental theatre. it was really cool crowd and an interesting show in a unique space. i went to see one by bert and nasi and really loved it. the beer was great and the bar staff was really awesome. all around positive experience.
S. M.
Great Spot! First time performing there with the gang!! Lovely presence and feel. It gives a great connection to any performing arts...performed there!!....? I can't believe I just used the word perform in a sentence twice...my English teachers are flogging him/herself thinking he/she failed me .....darn it 🤦🏾♂️😭
P.s. in other news....Brilliant venue 😊 and would definitely recommend anyone to go see whatever performance the future holds in there.
A. P.
One of London's great venues for fringe theatre and performing arts. Always great value, full of surprises, and a wonderfully eccentric atmosphere pervades the many halls, corridors, lounges, theatres, and bars within the imposing Victorian structure.
Thoroughly recommend going regularly.
S. &. J.
We absolutely love this place as an arts venue - unique atmosphere, always great and interesting shows. Plus, they've done a fantastic job renovating it. But the food is NOT GOOD. So go, just don't eat here!
c. j.
Theatre at its best, multi media play, thought provoking.
BA is an amazing historical place. And not expensive most shows have a discounted night and some even have relaxed performances.
W. C.
Used to come here for work all the time, not seen it since it's refurb but I love what they've done to it, it looks amazing. We watched a charity comedy night there, loved every minute. The bars did get a little over run but otherwise great.
R. M.
Fantastic funny musical entertainment with return of Orpheus by the little bulb Co.as part of the Phoenix season in the Grand Hall largely restored after the fire of 3 yrs ago. The old town hall is a beautiful building put to good community use. Do visit.
D. H.
A bohemian performance space. Welcoming, laid back, a little mysterious and magical. A trendy cafe, child friendly. Come and see both polished and rough drafts of shows called 'scratch shows'. The building is an example of architecture rescued from a fire with a magnificent staircase. Free talks with refreshments about the history of the building are held every month. It's got a wonderful website. Check this out for more details.
S. W.
My favourite arts venue in London.
It's probably the best fringe theatre in London, with a long history of promoting intelligent, innovative theatre and new writing. It's a vibrant community hub, showcasing local artists and working with residents and schools. And the building itself is gorgeous and steeped in both the history of the area and of the shows it hosted. When it was damaged in a fire a few years ago the outpouring of grief and support was deeply felt and real.
Love coming here either for a show, food and drinks, or just to hang out. Go. It's lovely.
C. A.
An extraordinarily beautiful space with interesting craftsmanship and design features. As a first timer to BAC, also felt a very good vibe snd the staff I encountered (bar and ushers) were friendly and efficient. Kudos too to the programming staff for bringing 'Daughter' to the stage. A masterpiece in the work that has gone into its creation and on going development. A privilege to experience and to be at the post performance talk. A real discussion with real issues, brilliantly facilitated.
B. T.
Awesome venue for small concerts and great pub food! Went to see a friend play and was pleasantly surprised to find very cool hub with nice vibes. The pub is very cosy and the perfect atmosphere for a group meal or a solitary reading session :)
A. M.
This is an out standing place for trying new and experimental theatre. Many shows are only an hour and only a tenner. Even if it isn't to your taste, you've got the rest of your evening to enjoy and it hasn't cost you the earth! Always worth taking a chance on theatre... and a perfect place to give artists a forum for new work. Many of which will meet you in the bar after...
P. J.
A fabulous, vibrant hive of creativity beautifully refurbished to reflect its unique history and heritage. A venue for belonging - belongs to its community but with open doors to welcome everyone. Love it! ❤️
J. C.
Wow, great place, well renovated, bringing out the features and not over doing the modernization.
R. B.
I've been here to see Orpheus (1930s hot-club-jazz-reimagining of the classic Greek myth), and a couple of times just to the bar to meet friends for a beer - both experiences were great. They have some interesting beers on tap and in bottles, and the bar food (we had a few little sharing plates) is good. The building is very cool to look around too.
P. M.
Renovated town hall where I watched "Always infinity", a highly recommended comedy sketch. Great venue with a bar and ample space for many small events. Well worth the visit.
D. D.
A truly unique and remarkable space for performance art and community engagement activities! Have been to a number of shows here (before and after the fire) and have loved it every time!
M.
Got my vaccine done here. The building was very pleasant and clean with amazing rooms
A. M.
Great theatre, poor quality bar. Warm glasses and badly gassed beer makes for a flat experience. However, one could always drink wine.
M. P.
It's quite a quirky building, long queues at the bar but nice places to sit. It was a little bit cold when we went, so would recommend a coat in winter. Lots of shows on simultaneously using interesting spaces. Reasonably priced tickets.
R. W.
Great to see this place restored and open. Saw a performance with previous drinks in the bar great prices freak atmosphere brilliant performance. Love the architecture and how the building has been restored
J. N.
A fantastic building, marred by a devastating fire in 2015. They now have a great vision and the re-build is very much underway. We saw a great little play in the internal open air courtyard. Wooden benches and standing room. Very intimate.
C.
I was called last min as a ticket became available and I had put my name on the waiting list. I threw on my coat ran out the door and ran for the train. It took me 1.5hrs to get across London and unfortunately as I was around 15mins late I wasn't allowed in. If the person selling the ticket would have told me this I would not have chanced it (I did say I lived 1.5hrs away and hopefully I'd be on time). There was lovely staff on duty though when I arrived - cashier and manager were both really helpful - excellent customer service. Although I never got to see the play I was told I'd be at the top of the waiting list...fingers crossed for next time
Z. B.
One of the best places in London for a quality theatre experience. All the shows I've seen were top-notch - you can always buy a ticket to a BAC show without even reading the description and know it'll be good. Kudos for supporting emerging performance artists and young theatre companies. Also, the bar offers great cappuccino with almond milk.
S. W.
Gets better and better as a hub for arts, cafe, children and creative activities in Battersea. Lovely restored elegant building has a friendly buzz about it. Always helpful staff.
R. C.
Great historic architecture which creates a great atmosphere and feel ... has a buzzing bar with friendly accommodating staff. Nice place to be. Good bar, great food & theatre. Perfect, def recommend!
J. W.
I had been meaning to visit and kept forgetting, but I finally made it there and absolutely loved it! Really beautiful building, staff were friendly and we had a delicious salad lunch. Will definitely go back soon.
L. C.
I absolutely adore the thought provoking theatre they have. It’s a must see for anyone who enjoys being one step ahead. Theatre of the future! I miss the one to one festival!
r. s.
Love this place! They have some really interesting and unusual shows, with an eclectic blend of drama, comedy and performance art. Food at the bar is good and the service is always super friendly.
K. W.
Beautiful old building that has gone through many transformations, and change of uses.
Attended a production by Chickshed Kensington and Chelsea Youth Theatre.
Other productions were also taking place in different parts / spaces of the building.
There is an exhibition area, which is currently home to a community project aimed at, and made by local secondary school young people addressing the issues that effect them... Technology, knife crime, climate change race, religion.
Relaxed, art inspired creative atmosphere..
Scratch Bar provides the usual bar snacks and hot food menu in spacious surroundings.
Recommend checking out its upcoming events... Or just popping in for a few drinks with friends...
A. M.
Nice place for weddings and private party's 👌
S. S.
Didn't go before the fire, so not sure how it's changed since the refurbishment, but the decor is pretty amazing in this place. I recently heard that someone had their wedding here - makes sense because the building is insane!
Been a couple of times, one for Edinburgh Fringe Trials and another for a play. One of the Fringe Trials was a performance called 'Always Infinity' by Tom Neenan - it was hilarious and really cleverly done with a projector screen and audio recordings. The play, called Goldfish Bowl, was a really unique combination of spoken word, acting, music and visuals. It was then followed by a thought-provoking discussion with the production team and actors behind it.
It's a great weeknight activity if you are up for a dose of culture and doing something different!
S. K.
Such a fabulous old building. Feels very historic. Went there for an event but will be returning to take more time to appreciate this space.
R. B.
Great building - bit far from all public transport - nice bar and friendly staff puts on interesting theatre shows more fringe than mainstream
J. l.
Currently being refurbished, which is estimated to take 4 extra months. Contact them afore planning a visit
P. S.
A lovely and warm place to enjoy arts
S. B.
Lovely places and friendly staff. Went to see No Kids - show. It was really good - acting, sounding and choreography and even the theme. I really enjoyed.
D. D.
Great Panto and lovely venue.
M. D.
It's an excellent venue with a lot of character. The bar is also a great place to hang out before/after a show.
J. L.
Really lovely heritage venue with lots of performances each night. Soon due to fully relaunch after the fire in 2015 and will have a modern courtyard.
3. M.
Really gorgeous building with a diverse range of performances.
B. D.
Nice play area, although a bit overcrowded during family days.
The service at the café was very slow. At certain moments there was only one person taking orders, serving food and making coffee. He also served his friends first before the people waiting on the queue.
M. M.
Historical, atmospheric with great performances
P. G.
Beautiful venue - Went for a vaccine and couldn't have been a better experience
D. B.
Great theatre/venue showing a range of different things. Amazing facilities for children.
D. H.
Beautiful multi functional building, will be back!!!
J. S.
It's brilliant! Great drinks and it's somewhere that is just that little bit different to your usual drinking establishment . I've not been to a performance here but am hoping to in future.
G. C.
An old town hall is transformed to a creative hub that hosts theatre/dance/music performances. A historic building open all day, with 2 bars for coffee & drinks.
B. L.
Excellent service for vaccinations - well done to all NHS staff and volunteers
S. S.
The most beautiful building in Clapham, this theatre holds a lot of history.
I've been to 3 performances and I loved each one of them. So original, interesting and unique for reasonable prices.
The only thing I don't like about it is the bar, because the service is extremely slow and disorganized.
Everything else, highly recommended
T. S.
Went for the lina cinema was beautiful
A. A.
The cafe/bar in BAC has become my regular place for coffee. They consistently make a good latte for £2 and their small selection of baked goods never disappoints. They also do a small lunch selection from 12:30pm. The cafe seating area is large and welcoming with a mix of tables and sofas and they have no problem with me hanging out for two hours getting stuff sorted on my laptop. If you're in the area and want a cuppa try this place.
V. P.
Nice venue to catch a comedy or musical performance. Interesting looking building with some quirky decor, and a bar where you can get a drink and snack before a show.
A. S.
Beautiful building although I have been there just for my second jab :)
J. R.
Welcome back to this beautiful building, a peony coming from the fire. There's a great artsy feel to the building, though I was underwhelmed by the food on offer so I wouldn't necessarily plan to eat here.
C. W.
I've seen some of the most interesting and creative performances here, so I can say this place definitely worth a visit. The building is quirky but I like it. There are beautiful murals and stained glass everywhere and the people that work there are really nice and friendly. The tickets are reasonably priced as well.
T. S.
It's a place buzzing with creativity. The best off west end plays. Beautiful building recently redone after a fire. A cultural hub. About 10 minutes slow walk from Clapham Junction Station. You can have a beer, wine, coffee. Highly recommend a visit.
G. L.
I visited in the evening for a comedy performance. The interior of BAC is really stunning. Nice bar for pre and after show drinks and really friendly staff.
A. M.
The Battersea Art Centre (BAC) is a massive old building just up the road from Clapham Junction. I’d often passed by it and wondered what on earth goes on in there. Turns out a number of things from community meetings to Zumba classes and in my particular case, small theatre productions!
I went there for a modern take on the Greek tragedy Orpheus. I say modern in that it was a blend of present day Paris and historic Greece with the actors/actresses affecting dramatic French accents whenever they needed to speak. As this was a special preview, we promised not to spoil the surprise but I will say it was a highly enjoyable evening and one of the best elk portrayals I’ve ever seen.
The centre itself is gorgeous with a graceful airy structure and beautiful murals and stained glass everywhere you look. It really gives you a feeling of the grandeur of an age gone by and I can’t think of a better setting for a theatre. Ticket prices are quite reasonable being around £15-20 so it’s worth a punt. You’ll definitely be laughing in your seats – or if you need some fun juice to get you going, there are two bars with excellent ales, beers, and wines on offer!
T. H.
First time back in the main hall since the rebuild. The space is absolutely stunning and the mix of modern and original features is beautiful.
Great events here throughout the year, from comedy to drama, weird and more avant garde to the standard stage fayre.
Really like the bar(s) and highly recommend coming early for some food and drink.
M. K. H.
Very historic buildings and recently opened after the great fire 4 years ago now. Lovely place for a good drink and pizzas with live music.
E. D.
Really good vibes and excellent performances. Amazing building with loads of history. Good beers, wines and events.
Worth paying a visit.
R. H.
My first visit since the terrific restoration of the Grand Hall
A. P.
This place has so much to offer... Amazing performances, a nice atmosphere and reasonable prices. Renovations look great - can't wait to watch this place grow!
G. S.
Saw a play with friends. It's a beautiful building - an oasis really. A little tucked out of the way but worth the effort. The show was a treat too!!!
A. P.
We'll thought out, helpful and interested staff, and the kids love it (1 and 3ys old). Shame the 1yr old had to come home for a nap as there was beat boxing and disco in the afternoon too. Thanks BAC!!!
W. D.
What an atmospheric place! Orpheus was a real joy to behold funny, touching and tear jerking in equal measure. A lovely place to visit over the festive period.
M. D.
Juliet and Romeo was a great show to watch on February 14th. Loved the reimagined, step into my memory take to it. Engaging acting, a great stage show overall
A. D.
Music on Thursday was great. However outside is a pleasant seating area inside needs a makeover very dissapointing
E. P.
The Scratch bar in the Battersea Arts Centre is a fabulous little bar with great staff and a relaxing atmosphere. It's a slight trek from Clapham Junction so is refreshingly not overcrowded, and they have an interesting range of beer at great prices - a pint of imported Kirin Ichiban was only £4! The decor was quirky and comfortable, with a good amount of seating. They were playing catchy old reggae and similar type music all night which made a nice setting for drinks and conversation. The staff were amazingly pleasant and fun. The only drawback was the closing time, but I'm sure that is down to location. I'd definitely go back if in the area.
H. C.
excellent - a long way from home but an unforgettable evening - [Caitlin by Gwynn Emberton]. Really nice place - fascinating building you just want to explore great staff and comfy bar
R. H.
Stunning building. The only teeny downside is the information sent on collecting tickets didn't match what the staff said, so we wasted 45 minutes to trek out and bacon to not be able to collect tickets.
C. H.
What a lovely welcoming place 🥰🥰🥰
k. s.
best place to see new and exciting art- theater and music.
Have seen some of the best stand up here.
Great cafe, nice cake and coffee..
Amazing place
N. M.
Beautiful building that equally and successfully blends the old and the new. Easily acxessible by public transport and has a fully functional bar that also serves hot food.
C. T.
Amazing space with lots of potential. Went to see Ferris & Sylvestor play last night. Great venue with good beers and friendly staff.
E. P.
Beautiful place to go and visit. Very unique in its design and gives a real theatre-like vibe to it's visitors
P. W.
Amazing arts and entertainment venue still in renovation and repair following the fire a few years ago. The centre has a variety of events for all ages.
M. L.
Very quirky lovely place ..
J. E. B. Z.
One of the best Arts Centre in London, in my opinion. I've enjoyed every show I've seen in there.
A. W.
Always a great selection of things on and glad to see it being restored. It's a shame they never seen to be able to sort out the bar service, with long waits before shows and in intervals.
J. G.
It just oozes history a fabulous building and a great bar the only reason it doesnt get 5 stars is that the ladies toilets took an age to find I passed 2 sets of mens toilets trying to find them
0.
A lovely space with some really good shows. I went with my partner who is disabled and they really couldn't be more accommodating.
P. T.
A great space. Really trendy and well placed. Lovely programme and quirky little venue. Can't fault it.
T. “. M.
Despite the state of repairs taking place to rebuild the grand hall, it is still a great venue. There is a good "vibrant" atmosphere in the place.

T. B.
BAC is an inspiration. I love that they programme some of the most inventive, creative and experimental performances I've seen in a very relaxed unstuffy way. Great venue. More please.
R. M.
This is a great place to visit in the day for a coffee, cheap salad, quiche, potato etc. The BEES KNEES is outstanding for toddlers especially on a cold or rainy day. Its an indoor slice of the English Countryside, with a grass hill, bridge and cave!
M. D.
I only visited the coffee shop and it is a nice place to relax, get a cup of tea/coffee and browse your emails. Full of mums and students it is clearly a nice place to hang around on a lazy midweek afternoon
M. S. (. I.
This place can get attractively busy with activities it definitely inspires visitors but it needs make up to support the artists there and their contributions
C. A.
Saw The Paper Cinema's Macbeth which was amazing. The play was great, the staff are friendly, and the bar well managed.
B. M.
An iconic place, full of history - colourful mosaic floor, marbling and paintings on the ceiling, beautifully preserved - like walking back in time.
A. P.
Fantastic venue, atmosphere and full of history. Also a place you can eat and drink prior to the show.
D. J.
Went to see the tv filming of portrait artist of the year. Well presented venue with a lot of interesting historical building details visible.
R. T.
Amazing theatre with fantastic programming; in 15 years I've never seen a bad show here.
K. W.
What a stunning dance hall, wonderful event location and general stuff are really helpful and polite, but watch out for their hired security, super rude and dismissive.
C. H.
My toddler loved the Bees Knees such a creative space for kiddies. I think it's now under renovation so hopefully will open soon again!
P. P.
Very inspirational place. Good to ask the history of the building. Have a course in the bar and of course be updated for the events happening in there!!!
D. A.
Lovely historic building, it was great to have the opportunity to go behind the doors. Also great coffee.
s. g.
Awesome play Juliette and Romeo, they didn't die, but went on to have a dysfunctional marriage. Very funny, interspersed with dance, brilliant!
The bar is great, very rustic. The building is as ever beautiful and the repairs from the fire to the roof are coming along nicely.
The black cat who lives there is, as ever, a vicious thing. Beware!
J. B.
Surprisingly great music drama and live performance space. With a pub. Go to an event here. It's great.
N. T.
Amazing place, shabby and creative. Good bar too.
A. L.

D. B.
Pleasant space , great audio. So an acoustic duo perform there. Friendly staff .. pleasant night
K. W.
Always enjoyable, engaging and unexpected to see a performance here. And always worth visiting the bar afterwards.
M. C.
My first evening of volunteering here, a large art center. .Lots of performance spaces. A number of places to eat and drink.
R. M.
A beautiful, grand, yet delapidated old building, full of art, theatre, a bar, and strange, wonderful happenings.
e. d.
Working here today is a lovely place and lovely atmosphere.
A. M.
Wonderful to see this place back after a bad fire. We watched the Paper Cinema's production of Macbeth. The chairs in the room were horribly uncomfortable after about half an hour but the performance was really good. Prices in the ground floor bar were very reasonable but both drink and snack options were limited and we kept being told they'd run out of stuff. That said, it's a great venue, offering everything from baby and toddler groups to performances.
P. M.
Great renovation of thr Grand Hall, lovely building, put on great plays and the staff and bar are lovely and reasonably priced respectively!
M. O.
Lovely public space with character. Bar/restaurant looks inviting.....next visit!
C. C.
For local Batterseans to people afar, this is a lovely modern theatre that shows some real theatrical treats set in the backdrop of the Battersea old council building.
S. B.
Really nice venue with great staff and quirky decor. Hope they rebuild quickly!
J. W.
Terrible show but I love the venue: Honeywell productions ruled in 1997!
A. D.
Great night out in this quirky and attractive venue which is worth supporting. Good cafe on site too.
N. A.
Great theatre, lots of character. There are very interesting shows for a reasonable price
O. R.
Really nice place, good sound, good atmosphere, just too bad it's so difficult to get a drink.
P. W.
Went there to get my first covid 19 vaccine
C. C.
Very good venue, interesting alternative theatres and events!
J. M.
The play space is really magical and encouraged lots of imaginative play. Great menu reasonably priced and tastes great.

Wot? No Fish!!
When writer and performer Danny Braverman inherited a shoebox that belonged to his great uncle Abraham ‘Ab’ Solomons, there was nothing for it but to share its contents with the world. Because inside that shoebox lay a lifetime of memories, an honest expression of love, and a witty and perceptive artistic talent. Uncle Ab had provided a chronicle of married life in London’s East End Jewish community, drawn on little brown wage slips. In Wot? No Fish!!, currently playing at the Battersea Arts Centre, Braverman shares this insight into Ab’s life.
One week in 1926, shoemaker Ab Solomons decided to doodle on the wage slip that he gave to a girl called Celie Brenner. Celie was Ab’s wife, but she was also his muse and his audience. Over the next sixty years, every week, Ab would draw snapshots of their life together. Humorous, tender, sober, even raunchy (!), Ab’s doodles to Celie give a glimpse into their relationship, their faith, and their community. As the years passed and the doodles became detailed miniature artworks, major events punctuate the drawings. Celie and Ab have two children, they survive the Blitz, and their son gets admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Their relationship is tested to the limit and they endure heartbreaking loss, but throughout, Ab continues his pictures for Celie, even graduating to Technicolor on his retirement.
In Wot? No Fish!! Danny Braverman carefully sifts through the 2,500 or so little brown wage packets to present snippets of his great uncle and aunt’s history. Using a projector to show each drawing, Braverman’s one-man show and tell is simple in its structure, taking us from birth to death and everything in between. His show is a mixture of lecture and performance, with Braverman including his audience in the story from the outset: handing out cooked fish balls for them to eat (delicious!) and throwing questions to those watching.
Braverman is an excellent storyteller, knowing how to please and enrapture his audience. He has clearly carefully studied Ab’s drawings, and offers his interpretation of what Ab might have been thinking and feeling. He masterfully presents his chosen selection of wage-packet drawings, turning over the envelopes like a fortune teller revealing life’s cards. Braverman also enlightens his audience, teaching them about religious and cultural traditions.
Wot? No Fish!! is a creation of the Bread & Circuses Theatre Company: a collaboration between Danny Braverman and director Nick Philippou. It runs at the Battersea Arts Centre until 19th July. It’s a fresh love story told through the eyes of a man who understands that every day matters, and is a delight to watch.

The B.A.C. has provided a home for the creative development of theatre companies like Punchdrunk, Kneehigh, Coney and Fuel to name but a few. Housed in the stunning old town hall near Clapham Junction train station The Battersea Arts Centre is a little national theatre for developing artists and theatre companies. It houses 3-4 theatrical spaces, a trendy bar and a team of producers with their collective finger on the theatrical vein of British and occasionally International Theatre.
