Reviews of Kino Bermondsey
T.
Our favourite cinema not just in London but on earth, it's size makes for an experience that most others can't offer. The drinks are superb as are the snacks, easy to park by and close to Bermondsey Street and the Southbank is a short stroll. (Park just the otherwise of Tower bridge road to avoid congestion charge... whose hours reduce back down in February 2022.)
Staff are charming and real movie buffs.
Finally if you're social distancing in these times, it's not hard at the Kino as it's never too busy.
Finally they just need to make booking available through google movies etc.. and maybe add Apple Pay to their site.
H. D.
I came across this gem yesterday when I had a few hours to kill and felt like seeing No Time To Die again. Lovely cafe and stunning little theatre, a great experience in itself. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
N. S.
Was here for the Dreamers viewing and the experience in kino was good for private viewings and love that they have an outside area for the warmer months.
A. L.
Very friendly staff. Not too much selection of snacks, but the screen is really great. If you have a good bunch of friends you could get the whole cinema. Tickets are a bit expensive £15 but considering cinemas have been closed so long, it's all right.
M. S.
relaxed atmosphere, but crowded in places (near toilets) for covid distancing.
P. B.
We have used this Cinema for small promotional events on some of our films with 1968 Film Group, BFI etc. The staff have always been very good, helpful, and the general programming of films is 1st rate. Great location too.
D. O.
Quiet little cinema, lovely staff, nice refreshments
M. K.
Small independent cinema, good selection of local bottled craft beers and nibbles and small pizzas. Music is decent too - usually retro and cheesy pop. During the day it's a great place to work since it's got good WiFi and is not busy at all. Quiet a few outdoor tables so great in the summer.
T. L.
What a lovely little cinema this is. They show some good independent, art house type films here along with the block busters. My partner and I started going and have really enjoyed it. They usually have two for one Tuesdays so it is value for money. The bar has some nice snacks you can take into the film with you. This is a cinema that you could go and watch a film by yourself and feel very comfortable. It is located in Bermondsey Square.
K. J.
Our favourite little hidden cinema plays the best new movies and you never need to wait in line! We love this little place for its intimacy (only a few rows of seats and no seat has a bad view) and the ability to bring beers or wine into the theatre. The last time we were there, there was a bit of a smell in the theatre, maybe coming from the washroom, but hoping that's gone for next time. Cheers! We'll be back often.
S. W. M.
Nice little spot in the cinema to grab a quick drink and watch a movie. The cinema is small and cozy, and they offer baby showings where you can bring the little one in and not worry about making a noise which is great. Drinks are on par with the area, so not a place to go maybe for a cheap drink, but atmosphere is relaxed.
K. C.
When it's sunny you can't beat this place for a marvellous and peaceful drink outside.
The staff have been friendly since its Inception a few years ago and the wine list although not as extensive as in the beginning is good value and quality.
I have never seen a film here much to my chagrin but they don't seem to hold that against me
P. W.
I visited the King Bermondsey for coffee and a quiet corner. So, I can't say what the place is like for a film. I don't think I found the place at its best. The assistant was on the phone and seemed too busy to serve me. It was necessary to move a chair before I could sit down. On the plus side, coffee was decent. It wasn't a busy time for the Kino, but I noticed little groups of people dropping in. The Kino is obviously well loved, but I don't think I came on a good day.
N. G.
Great small cinema--nice bar/cafe and intimate space (there's only four rows of seats). Seats could be upgraded--they're not the most comfortable and some squeak--but otherwise a great place. Good selection of films ranging from independent film to mainstream releases. Very reasonably priced.
M. F.
Visited Kino for the first time , having lived in Bermondsey for 7 years. The atmosphere was good , friendly bar staff. The cinema was neat and cosy with a nice wide screen. The film played on time. Would watch a film here again .
J. B.
Great little independent cinema, responsibly priced. Don't expect a large screen though as there's only about 4 rows of chairs. Great that you can take drink and food into the cinema.
M. G.
Great small cinema with only a few rows of seats. Not a bad view in the house. Very relaxed vibe. Can bring in alcohol or coffee whatever you fancy from the bar. Would come here more if i lived nearby. Worth the trek though to try a different cinema experinence & plenty nearby in terms of bars & cafes.
D.
I went here for drinks with a friend, we didn't try the cinema.
It was clean, easy to find a table, drinks were reasonably priced and it has a nice outdoor seating area.
Id go again if we were in the area.
E. T.
Excellent staff, very efficient. The seats comfortable but the heights of the front seats are not good enough cause people ahead of you don't allow you to watch properly the screen.. fortunately small room wasn't full and we decided to move just in the first row, just in front of the screen.
M. M.
This was terrible when it first opened - couldn't book films via the website, wine displayed in the window where the light ruined it, etc.
It seems to have gotten much better recently. The bar is much improved, no wine in the window, staff are helpful and they've got a proper web site. You can take drinks in from the bar to the cinema, all seats in the cinema are good and sound quality is top notch.
R. M.
Affordable cinema near in the neighbourhood!! There is always a few films showing there but usally they are good quality of them. You can enjoy a good glass of wine before of after the film. there is also seats in the square in front of the cinema. The best familiar environment cinema in the London south area.
K. L.
Cozy independent cinema in Bermondsey Square. Nice bar with decent coffee. Could do with fresh popcorn but they have a range of other snacks that you can crunch noisily on whilst watching a film. Well worth a visit for locals
C. M.
Good venue for impromptu meetings. Comfortable seats and enjoyable environment. No issues having just a coffee or a drink over a friendly meeting.
C. M.
Lovely little cinema. Always showing a couple of the latest films a maybe some oldies. They have a nice bar with good beers and snacks and £6 tickets on Mondays!
S. D.
Tucked away in a quiet square, this cinema does brilliant bar food (filled bagels for £3.50, pizza for £8), the usual range of booze including the odd fancy drink like Aperol Spritz, and has a small but comfy cinema room in the back which can be hired out for events.
e. b.
Loved this little cinema! We watched three billboards, and I think the cosiness of the room added to the humour. Having a pint with your film also makes it that much better!
A. E.
Fun independent cinema, with a pleasant cafe and bar, although with a tiny screen. My favourite feature is the monthly parent and baby screenings at lunchtime - adult films shown for parent who bring their babies along.
R. W.
Quirky little (52 seat) local movie theatre. It has a bar at the front which opens up on to Bermondsey Square. You buy your tickets at the bar and can take your drinks through to the cinema with you. Recomended.
A. V.
A great local cinema, they show new releases mixed with more art house releases. One screen, its tiny and intimate.
Food and drink is good with a wide range of food options and beverage options.
P. C.
Opened as the Shortwave a few years ago and recently renamed the Kino. Small but comfortable screen and good bar where you can buy your drinks before and/or after.
H. H.
This is a great local cinema for me personally. Cheap Mondays (£6) and while it's my go-to because it's so close to home, it may not suit others because the capacity isn't large and there isn't a great selection of films that's regularly available.
S. O.
Love it here. Great for casual drinks with friends or working on the laptop with a coffee. Nice little boutique cinema.
Z. B.
Nice staff, small and unnumbered seats in the theatre itself. But a lovely independent feel to it. Good cinema if you are local.
A. B.
I really love this cinema; the chairs are comfy and it's so small that showings feel kind of intimate. They also serve brilliant local ales which always gets a thumbs up from me.
J. L.
Fantastic venue even when invaded by Qype-loving zombies.
This cinema sits within a square near a new hotel and bar//lounge, across from a Sainsbury’s so you can pop in to the supermarket for your movie snacks then grab a beer or wine and get in there.
The cinema is small and intimate - perfect for showings of cult classics such as Shaun of the Dead or The Rocky Horror Picture Show which I think should be the next movie Qype gets hosted there. I just need to remember my newspaper as the seats are close and in the velvet darkness of the cinema one never knows what one may encounter.
The sound needs improving but once you get involved in the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane you’ll know this is the perfect cinema within which to do the Time Warp AGAIN!
T. R. P.
Great little cinemaa. So happy to have it in my neighbourhood. I just wish there were baby cinema sessions to attend on Sundays too and maybe a coat hanger in the men's bathroom
D. E.
Nice little intimate Cinema. Good little bar that serves some nice beers and coffes too. Staff were friendly.
N. B.
Cute little cinema, one screen with only about 25 seats. It's perfect to go by yourself and if you want to avoid noisy large groups.
W. C.
Best cinema in Southwark!
J. Q.
Nice independent cinema with a great bar. Quality of the movie was not amazing and it was so warm inside. But would go there again!
V. T.
Really authentic cinema and bar. Prices are a bit on the expensive side so try and book on a day there is a deal on.
M.
I really like this cinema but preferred it before they redecorated as now it looks tacky. Feel as though many people don't realise it's here, but I guess they must not have the budget to market...shame as I would like to see it survive and thrive
M. M.
I loved this little cinema - quite old school but with good facilities. In a nice square in the heart of Bermondsey. Definitely recommended
J. L.
Great little independent cinema! You have to check they have movies that you're interested in but then it's nice to be able to drink your beer watching it!
-.
The cake and tea is good, the film projection is amateur but will intentioned, the film I watched was very good.
I hope that they become more professional in the way they go about projecting films.
C. B.
Very small and seats are a bit uncomfortable but incredible sound! Also being able to take drinks from the bar in, the price and the whole convenience of it all - big plus!
C. G.
Very cool local cinema in Bermondsey Square. All serve coffee and cakes as well as a fully stocked bar with many nice beers on tap.
B. G.
Great personalised experience
K. S.
Friendly bar /cafe with seats available outside. Great place to sit at bermondsey square and some co-working space users are spotted along those who wait for their soiree time
K. P.
Very cosy local cinema. Sometimes the air conditioning is ruining my movie experience but otherwise, good place to avoid crowds and enjoy a movie.
D. E.
We stopped in here for a couple of drinks. Not sure about the cinema quality, but it's a decent place for a beer.
M. N.
Amazing local cinema with drink and food bar for before or after the movie, or even just to enjoy a drink sitting outside at the Bermondsey sqaure.
Fully recommend !
M. G.
Alright little cinema. Not amazing, not terrible. There was an off-putting line down the whole screen.
Clientele were very noisy. Some people KEPT knocking glass over.
A. H.
Cute little cinema that combines an intimate film watching setting with a café that also serves alcohol. A fine case study of gentrification at work.
A. R.
Small independent cinema with a bar. Showing all the new releases in a more intimate setting. Great service and prices.
K. M.
Great little boutique local cinema. You can take your drinks in. Very small so be sure to book.
M. M.
Lovely single screen cinema. Two for one on Tuesdays. Quite a nice bar too.
F. A.
The staff make this place. Their prices are much too expensive but you find yourself going back because it's such a good space for everyone. Parents with kids and prams, workers, etc.
G. F.
Great little cinema and bar. Lovely cakes, friendly staff, and they have baby cinema too for mums.
R. H.
Fab little cinema. Only has about 50 seats so very intimate but has a bar next door and a great feel to it.
L. R.
Nice local cinema with an enjoyable bar and outside area. Always have a great time
t.
Nice little cinema, great staff, good beer and a bar with an outdoor terrace.
S. M.
This tiny little cinema has 3 rows only....such a refreshing wsy to go to the cinema and definitely much nicer than those awful multi screen cinemas.....
E. W.
Loved this place! Cafe was very sweet, and the small movie theater was also a treat.
P. T.
I absolutely love this place because it has almost everything I need: cinema, coffee, children and dog friendly, cocktails... And so close to my home.
L. H.
I did not believe there is actually a cinema inside a bar/cafe.
You could bring in your drink to watch a film, feels like at home watch a film.
G. J.
Cafe bar and cinema not always all different facilities can gel in one place here it succeeded better than most
R. F.
Very cosy cinema and always playing off the mainstream movies. They also have a bar attached to it although not that inspiring...
C. P.
Probably the best and most consistent in the area for dirty glasses. I assume the previous owner took the dishwasher with them.
M. K.
Cinema is nice for the size. Overall sound and screen quality was also good.
L. C.
Loads on offer, comfortable seating in the cinema and lovely atmosphere..... Not to mention the drinks! :)

(Translated) Cute little cinema with a bar in the front area, where you can pass the time to film. Not very cheap compared to German cinemas, but that's generally true in London. We can recommend it anyway!
(Original)
