I did a 4-day Introduction to Improv workshop with The FA and absolutely loved it. The teaching, games and techniques were enjoyable, fascinating and enlightening. I could not recommend them enough for anyone interested in performance, improvisation or just looking to build their confidence, listening and interpersonal skills.

Got a lot of love for the FA. The shows are consistently great, their house teams have so many brilliant performers. If you’ve been thinking about giving a class a try, the FA has a really great course and additional classes. The teachers are friendly and knowledgeable and I’ve met so many great people whilst doing the various levels.

This theatre is one of the best in town for improv comedy. The performers always put on a really fun show, and the training is top-notch. I've learned so much & enjoyed myself even more in the time I've trained and performed here. It's such a fun, heartwarming community. Check it out <3

Love this place. Always such a lovely atmosphere, so many incredible performers and loads of different shows. Great for a night out but even better for classes - if you've ever been slightly curious about learning improv comedy... DO IT HERE! You'll meet loads of fun new people and get to do ridiculous things for laughs, fun!

Love the FA! Teachers are incredibly talented, masters of their craft, supportive, lovely and create a wonderful learning environment. Shows are hilarious. Can't recommend this school enough. If you love comedy improv, you HAVE to train here.

Truly unique comedy community in London in two locations - Haggerston and Camden - that is well worth checking out, including if you're completely new to comedy or improv. Similar style to UCB in America but loads of variety too. Saw a show way back in 2016 then took their beginner's improv class and haven't stayed away since. Great way to meet people, laugh, and have fun.

One of the friendliest (and funniest) places in London to learn and enjoy comedy. I did my first class here with zero comedy experience, and it was so fun and easy, even for a shy person such as myself. I've been coming back ever since!

I recently started an Intro to Improv course and quite simply it is the best thing I have chosen to do, like ever! I love it😍 The classes are small and structured, and the teachers are so friendly, caring and understanding (and amazingly talented🤩) as they gently guide you to let loose your imagination whilst working with others, and have a good LOL. And the laughs are endless in classes!
I have also seen 4 shows and they take lols to cheek hurting, tear shedding, ooops i just snotted, levels🤣 😂🤣
I can't recommend the FA enough.

When I lived in New York I did a lot of improv (classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade, The PIT, performed w a team for 2 years) and never have I had such a good experience as I had at the FA. I was not expecting much when i showed up for Level 2, but the instructor (Lola) was fabulously supportive and on-point with constructive feedback, and the level of play that others brought to the room was surprisingly high. Clearly the FA is London’s gold standard, evidenced by the caliber of people it attracts both as students and teachers (I took Level 3 in July and was again impressed). Definitely worth the trek, if you’re not fortunate enough to live around the corner in Islington ;)

If you’re looking for a sense of community in London mixed in with some of the funniest people this is it! The FA is incredibly welcoming space and you can tailor your experience to get out of improv/sketch writing/comedy viewing exactly what it is that you are personally looking for!

Was a bit wary to go see improv that i had no idea about, but was extremely, pleasantly surprised. The members of the troupe were all very talented and we ended up having a riot. (And a plus, it's the good kind of improv where they don't try and make easy targets of the audience.)
Plus, it's just upstairs, held in an intimate space, from one of the best local pubs in Islington, so that is always a bonus.

Long form improv is growing in London and if you want to see some high level examples of Chicago-style improv, this is where it's at! Shows are great, the training is consistent and thorough, and the people are a right laugh and super friendly.
K. B.
The best improv theatre in London! They also do super fun classes so you can do all the funny stuff you see on stage.

I've had many a night laughing my face off crammed into the tiny theatre upstairs at the de beauvoir arms! One of the best places in London to see improv comedy

Such a fantastic place to learn the art of improv . I started at intro level and got the bug. Now at advanced Harold and all thanks to the fantastic teachers and vibe at the FA .

Updates: I confused the Free Association with another institute and booked a wrong class. But they kindly helped solve the issue fast, when I was angry and unaware of it was actually a mistake at my end. I'd like to say sorry to whom was involved in this accident. Having attended one session, I find the tutor very professional and learners very eager. The courses follow a strict structure which is great for serious learners!

Their improv shows are original and extremely funny. They do traditional improv forms and also invent their own. Great actors and great crowds.

Excellent comedy venue. There are shows most nights, and the quality is outstanding! Even the student shows are so much fun to watch

Just took the class Page to Pitch taught by Monica Heisey in lockdown via Zoom and it was a really great time. Educational, hilarious and formative.
