Reviews of The Pleasance Theatre
R. B.
This place is amazing. 3 floor pub with a chill vibe and good beer. Also the food is really tasty (even there is no that much vegan options) I always try to go here when I can. A truly hidden gem, don’t miss it!
N. H.
A selection of fantastic shows, loved Tim Key's work in progress show recently. Great spot with The Depot next door for food beforehand. Enjoyed the ease of table service via the app.
D. H.
Fantastic space and layout with great bar featuring a forest staircase. Staff extremely friendly. Good choice of pub adjacent for pre-theatre food as well.
I. B.
Great venue. Glitches with booking tickets and scanning the code to get program. Sure they will attend to it. Also the support they give to young artists is commendable
s. s.
Fantastic evening watching Please Do Not Touch by Casey Bailey

Dog show review:
What a INCREDIBLE SHOW!!! I was not sure what 2 expect exactly but I was up 4 a treat!!! Absolutely amazing take on seeing life thru Dogs Eyes = very intertaining, funny, smart!!! Super Energetic = it's must Ben Super Hard 2do 2nd show l8r on 4them as its weekend. Level of performance & singing was very high... Thx 4 making such a unusual topic soooo cheaky fun... MUST SEE!!!
C. O.
Oh my goodness! I had never heard of this place, but it was amazing! I absolutely loved the vibe inside and the staff were super nice and friendly. Love the tables inside the theatre and the view wasn't obscured by the balcony :)
M. R.
Went here for a Suspiciously Cheap Comedy night. Had some issues ordering through their app for table service but that's not really their fault - if it had been bar service I'm sure it would have been fine. I highly recommend these nights. They are a chance to see great comedy from well know names at a low price, and in a great venue.
C. M.
Great venue with very interesting shows, staff and service is excellent especially Chef Robbie and his amazing and tasty sandwiches, my friend Sophie recommend the Chicken club sandwich!!!! Michelin ⭐️ coming!

My favourite place in London. Not theatre—place. Please go and enjoy.
C. A.
Great first time at the Pleasance Theatre! Close to the Caledonian Road tube station. Really nice space, long comfy benches with a great view of the stage wherever you are. Staff were really friendly and welcoming.
M. A.
All seats have a great view of the stage and are extremely comfortable. The bar is small but well designed. We had a lovely evening.
H. L.
Great theatre with nice mix of comedy, plays and new fringe productions
f. c.
Cool old building with intimate spaces and lively atmosphere on Fridays
A. M.
Went to watch The Suspiciously Cheap
Comedy show and it was absolutely amazing. Staff at the venue were very friendly and helpful, especially when securing my ticket. Great venue.
I. C.
Best fringe theatre in London. Stunning productions and performances. Great bar and relaxed vibe. Such an affordable night out.
M. S. B. H.
Love this wonderful performance venue. It’s very welcoming and they have done well to meet the current needs of this pandemic world. So good to be back!,
R. R.
Genuinely cool vibe. Good show too
N. R.
Seat comfortable, but very warm. Good show 'the night of the living dead'
A.
Watched a showing of Night of the Living Dead Live. Theatre space is fabulous and show was truly immersive. The seating is continuous benches but with enough leg room to feel comfortable. Bar staff were very helpful, though the drinks were a little expensive (it's the theatre what do you expect!). Overall, a very intimate space with a lot to offer. They love what they do here and they do it well.
Toilets are a little uncomfortable for women, and not too friendly for wheelchair users. Though they have a dedicated disabled bathroom.
n. e.
Went to see a wonderful production of 'Mustard doesn't go with girls'. Funny, poignant and brilliantly acted. The theatre has a lovely foyer area with a nice bar, wall is adorned with past acts of some very familiar faces. Really friendly staff.
P. R.
A fantastic night out. Great entertainment and drinks in a lovely venue.
K. B.
A great theatre space with a good vibe. Lovely restaurant next door too.
M. A.
Recently came here to see a show in the main house, and was really impressed. The seats are really comfortable and there’s plenty of room for a big fella like myself. The bar area is a bit tightly packed but nice enough, and the staff are polite and helpful. Would definitely come here again in future, as it’s very near a tube station (Caledonian Road) and not a busy area due to not being central.
M. “. O. K.
Nice theatre that feels quite 'homely', especially on the day I visited for To Catch a Krampus. Didn't try the theatre bar as the intermission was relatively short and the queues massive.
Staff were very friendly and efficient. Will definitely keep an eye on future productions as it's nice to go to more local venues than the West End.
K. L.
Great comedy night with beer orders delivered to table!
B. D.
The Pleasance is a great venue for comedy and theatre. I’ve seen loads of work in progress shows in various rooms in this building and everything has been managed very very well. I’ll advise you to pick your tickets up and then head downstairs to the adjacent pub. It’s much much roomier than the rather cramped bar area nearby.
S. B.
Great theatre, easy booking online and staff are communicative and enthusiastic about the shows. The pub downstairs is good as is the theatre bar. Could really do with some bike parking, as there isn't any on the street or near the venue.
N.
Very compact theatre with just two rows of fold-down seating. I saw the tragicomedy 'Bismillah' here and it worked very well as an intimate venue. The details on the actors' faces were very apparent and so their performance was open to scrutiny. However, this proximity also created a deeper connection to the content and made me want to see more theatrical productions in similarly intimate settings.
The box office is upstairs and there's a restaurant/bar outside on the ground floor where the patrons' rowdiness will often leak into the performance space and break the immersion somewhat. Otherwise, recommended for small productions.
F. S.
It's a very place and has good bar
J. G.
Quirky venue hosting small and unique arts events
T. W.
Great not so little theatre tucked behind the Depot. Staff are really friendly and helpful and the show, Night of the Living Dead Live, was equally scary as funny! Will definitely go back to see another show here.
D. A.
A brilliant theatre near Canonbury. Hidden in a mews up a set of stairs, you would hardly notice it from the main road. The staff are friendly and relaxed, probably something to do with all the comedy they see. The bar is well price for a theatre bar and has comfy seats. I was in the larger space when I visited, the seats are long benches but they are very comfortable so you don't get a numb bum. Recommend seeing a show there, the tickets are very well priced.
C. F.
Great surprising little find, its certainly not on a well trodden pathway, so is hard to stumble upon, but now we know about it we'll definitely be coming back. It's an enjoyable intimate space for comedy and theatre with a nice bar and space to spend time in both before and after the performances.
S. W.
Great little theatre. Saw an excellent all female cast of Posh and the venue was perfect. Staff were excellent and the overall atmosphere was great. The handmade tables and chairs in the bar area gave it a really good feel.
A. C.
What a great theatre. Really great spaces which are large enough but not too intimidating. There is the ability to split some of the spaces in half which is great for having more intimate performances for reviews and previews. The bar is relaxed and comfortable.
C. H.
Tucked away joy, at back of old sta les with pub
S. R.
Nice and comfy family theatre. Friendly staff! Went there the see Peter Pan.
R. G.
My first time in a theatre in London...amazing.
K. E.
Great venue great comedy
J. B.
Amazingly clever and funny The Dog Show this afternoon here
G. M.
Nice small venue that holds about 200 people. Feels intimate and everyone can see from front to back. Saw Ricky Gervais here which was incredible value, to see a living legend for £15.. Top venue, shame about the baby Hitler. ;)
a.
A great venue. Highly recommend going to see things you haven't heard of before. So good. Great bar and a pub next door that serves food after as well.
M. L.
The theatre is above a spacious bar. The theatre itself has several rooms for small intimate plays with an audience of circa 50. There a private bar for theatre. Well worth a visit!
c.
I found this theatre to be a tucked away gem it has a social cosy atmosphere a nice bar and then a small theatre room with comfy sofas and theres also parking after hours I will definitely be signing up to visit here more often.
S. H.
Lovely venue for preview shows for Edinburgh. Seen so many good acts for very little money, and the bar is cheap and cheerful. Well worth a look
R. s.
Lovely theatre once you get in the space but the bar area is a total nightmare, is small and gets packed quickly especially when there is two shows going on at the same time. Bar staff aren't particularly speedy either.
M. M. (.
The theatre has two separate sources the main auditorium which has visiting shows and seats over 150 people and the smaller studio space that has more fringe and WIP performances.
The public spaces such as the bar and reception are small but not overly cramped.
Both performance spaces sir their purpose but sometimes in the smaller studio space there can be a problem with outside noise seeping in. Not so bad during a comedy performance but more distracting watching drama.
Overall the quality and variety of shows that pass through the theatre more than make up for any minor qualms.
M. M.
It may not look much from the outside but it's a nice little theatre with often good plays and comedy shows. In particular, famous stand up comedians try our their new material here. There's a pub downstairs that also serves food. It's about a 5 minute walk from Caledonian Road station on the Piccadilly line.
P. R.
Really lovely theatre. Great space good view from seats with a nice spacious bar and staff really friendly well worth the visit and supporting smaller theatres rather than just the west end
A. C.
Best-value theatre in London. Catch ex-Edinburg Festival hits and genuinely funny stand-ups trialling new material. Bar area has recently had a make-over which makes it worth turning up early or hanging out post-show.
J. T.
Very comfortable sits, small theater. It can be a bit packed at the star/end of the performance since there is just one small entrance by the bar area. Overall experience was great.
D. W.
A small independent local theatre with a great atmosphere, and free of pomp. Innovative programme of shows which I hope to support and enjoy over the year.
J. O.
Came here to see the very funny Pappy's flatshare.
Nice small theatre with bar and there's a pub next door. Does a range of comedy and shows.
A couple of flights of stairs. Quite close to Caledonian Road tube so easy to get to.
f. c.
I like this venue but it was a production of Don Giovanni that took my breath away. Mozart opera works well with a small orchestra, just 3 after the interval! Best Leporello I've ever seen.
S. M.
Saw Frankie Boyle here a few weeks back. Great little venue with a little bit of a hipster feel. Sitting on the side tends to be a good choice as you have unobstructed views and usually no one next to you!
A. P.
Dog Show was amazing!! So fun! So good!!!!
k.
They have warm up gigs for big tours of well known comedians. We saw Michael McIntyre with only a couple of hundred in the audience.
S. F.
Went to watch Ali and Dhalia.
The actors were fantastic got lost in the performance.
The theater had a great atmosphere staff were pleasant.
Would recommend
J. K.

S. C.

S. N.
A very intimate theatre. A number of small theatres.
The staff were very helpful and polite greeted with smiles arriving and leaving. A good night out that was done improtu.
R. R.
A lovely setting with cafe pub and 3 performance spaces to choose from. An engaging and interesting program of work championing new writing and emerging artists.
D. S.
Great fringe theatre both to visit and work. A comfortable auditiorium with a great stage space and technical facilities.
Lovely bar too.
G. P.
Nice intimate theatre with great tiered seating ensuring everyone gets a good view. They also do Brewdog IPA which is yum.
V. C.
Went to see Nick Helm, great atmosphere at the venue with fun and lively staff, comfortable seating close to the stage, really enjoyed my visit and would go again in a heartbeat
S. C.
Saw "Godot is a Woman" - absolutely fantastic, and the staff are all lovely
D.
Great venue! Loads of leg room, good stage and fantastic shows. Good beer on tap too
I. C.
Saw Night of the Living Dead. A little disappointed with the show but this was my first time at this theatre and I really liked it. Small but not cramped, clean and very friendly staff.
C. G.
Nice venue, close to the tube. Bar area gets terribly packed before shows and it seems to take a long time before staff open the theatre.
A. S.
Definitely less cramped and hot than many of London's small theatres. Bar staff very good.
G. M.
I loved it, The nut cracker was brilliant suitable for all. Good singing and dancing . Bar well priced and staff still friendly. I shall return next year for more ...👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
U. M.
Russell brand did his Trewly live event here. The theatre was horribly hot. It was awful. But Russell Brand did his event here so it gets 5 stars. But really, they need to invest in air conditioning...
A. A.
Great little venue. Seems to have a good programme of up and coming comedians and fringe theatre.

Saw Frankie Boyle testing out his new material, was very funny. The theatre is really well kept and pretty intimate.
S. P.
Great venue to catch stand-up. Often do really good deals on work in progress shows, sometimes for really big names as well.
p. r.
Warehouse style venue ... friendly approachable staff...but beware of the last step on the staircase I took a nasty tumble as it appears as not a step at all ...my friends also nearly fell but I was the unlucky one ...be aware take good care .

I attended the SLAMinutes events on 3rd and 4th March because my son was performing. The Theatre was very good, small but intimate. I was grateful that the bar staff made me a mug of tea as I am teetotal and had to wait for an hour before the performance was ready.

(Translated) Acoustics in the theater hall is not good. Walking on the wooden floor makes a lot of noise; for this reason, while the game is going around the officials are seriously distracting attention. Subtitling - game synchronization is not good at Turkish and Welsh subtypes, but subtitles could not be read properly due to curtain curves. The fire exit lights and emergency lights were bright enough to prevent some viewers sitting in the back reading the subtitles. In addition to the technical problems of the game, the technical problems of the theater hall led to an unsuccessful demonstration. If you are watching a play in this hall, watching from the front will help you to have a beautiful theater evening.
(Original)
