Reviews of Haughton Dale Nature Reserve
S. M.
My daily walk with the dog lovey walk and the canal
Peaceful and tranquil lot’s of birds watching too
Highly recommended
A. L.
Nice quiet place running alongside a river with woods and a large open field. We parked down a steep decrepit lane after following Google Maps, and nearly could drive out.
R. L.
Absolutely my favourite place to come with my children lively walk, nice area to sit and eat our lunch just lovely and most of the time peaceful
H. “. J.

Today was my first visit after seeing it recommended on Facebook. Absolutely beautiful place, perfect for walking the dog or having a nice stroll and a picnic. There is also a dog friendly pop up cafe on the Denton side of the river. We will definitely be coming here again in the future.
S. W. (.
Started from Gibraltar Lane to Godley turntable. Nice easy flat corridor of greenery with colourful markers along the way.
N. T.
Lovely walk. Go for walks here all the time.
N. S.
Only saw a short stretch of this, but it is a beautiful peaceful place for a stroll. Would love to explore more of it
E. S.
Absolutely beautiful place to go exploring some tricky paths but some fantastic history to see hidden with in almost magical woodland
S. D.
Lovely walk with the dog, usually quiet with a range of woodland, open spaces and water to paddle in. Bit of a shame the path wooden bridges in some places have fallen away and no one has bothered to fix it yet, it's been over a year already. 😢
K. P.
Local to ourselves and seems to go on forever. Great if you want a short walk you can cut off whenever you like, and great for a long walk aswell.
It's good to see the history of the old mills along the side of the water.
L. S.
Absolutely gorgeous place to visit with the family or to bring your dogs on a walk in the area
d. f.
Lovely and peaceful. Clean air and wildlife. A great lock down break out and got some steps in, but it took ages for me to walk a short distance. There are lots of benches to sit on too! Great.
G. W.
First visit. Lovely walk in the sun. Beautiful views of the river. Shame there was no map at the entrance. Enjoyed the walk was worth a visit.
G. D.
Nice walks with a few routes to follow and discover
J. C.
Lovely place. Lots of different walks to do. There is the river and the canal. Cottages and beautiful bungalows/houses to see. Listen for the woodpecker, take your dog for a walk or just yourselves. Friendly people walking, running and cycling. Different ways to enter as well.
T. S.
Lovely walk can be a little steep in places very enjoyable 🌳
A. S.
A wonderful place for walking, cycling, getting together in the open air and taking in an area bursting with wildlife. There a lot of walks to choose from, those skirting the river and canal are particularly nice. A number of car parks and Haughton Green Village bus stops make it easy to get to if travelling further afield than the immediate locality. Highly recommended.
M. M.
Nature at it's best and within walking distance from our home...
S. N.
Love this place..lots of greenery, peace and love the bird chirping...ducks in the lake..serene..kids loved it too😍
M. m.
Great peaceful walk lots of small pathways through wooded areas off the main paths" large fields for the dog to runabout...🐕... Nice river walk aswel 👍🏼😎😁 perfect
E. C.
This place is brilliant for dog walkers, small children that like walking, cycling etc. No toilets or cafe, so bring a flask and sandwiches. Lots of different paths to walk by the river.
S. H.
A beautiful spot. Listening to the sound of the rushing river, as I walked through the nature reserve was good. I am a keen ornathologist I was amazed at how many birds were inhabiting the area. I will definitely come again.
S. D.
A lovely walk, previously unknown to us. Peaceful and quiet.
J. G.
Lovely local walk also connects to the cannel between woodly and beyond and Ashton and beyond.
C. S.
It's always a beautiful walk through here. Peaceful, beautiful scenery, wildlife, what more do you want? Amazing!!!! A lovely walk for families.
A. M.
Great for local walk or cycling 😊
P. K.
Will be better in summer as very muddy but plenty of lovely scenery, waterfalls etc to look at
S. P.
Beautiful nature reserve in the middle of a busy town. Doggy heaven where they can run free, swim and play with others. Canal also next to it. Great for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and runners.
r. g.
Brilliant for walking with your dogs or on your own very easy walk as well
4.
I spent almost two hours there with my grandson exploring the area, enjoying the smells and sounds of nature. Highly recommended to all people who love nature and don't have the time to go out of the city.
H. S. (.
A lovely place ideal for dog walkers and family strolls. Access to the Peak forest canal and walks to Reddish Vale or Denton.
S. B.
A great bit of green belt mostly full of friendly dog walkers. I just wish that people would not litter and leave dog poo bags hanging from trees as it ruins our green space.
N. B.
Love it here, great for jogging walking and dog walking.
J. M.
Great place for a walk with the dog lots of paths winding through the woods between the river and the canal . Not wheelchair friendly although you might be ok if going in from Houghton green side but not much room to park a car
g. p.
Walk here most days, plenty of woodland walks, lots of other friendly Dog walkers.
Some young girls on horse back can be a bit silly and arrogant but most of the horse riders stick to the bridal paths as they should.
A few large fields for off lead excersise for Dogs, all are friendly but remember the transpennine trail is shared use and you should put your dog on lead due to horses.
P. C.
Really great nature reserve. The river Tame runs through the middle, there are meadows, woodlands and the canel along the top. Great diversity of plants and animals. You really would think you were in the middle of no where rather than Hyde!
D. T.
Lovely stroll this morning.
Came across the new pop up cafe
D. P.
Absolutely brilliant walk / bike ride it goes all the way up through Hyde and up to Godleys historic turn table
N. J.
It was our first visit, it's an okay walk if the weather is good, wish there was a map at the entrance. This may help to navigate the various foot paths.
D. S. C.
A privelage, to have such a picturesque, natural Woodward on our doorstep, for anyone that ever travels in the Haughton Green/Denton area of Manchester, i highly recommend you take a de-tour and take an hour or 2 to simple some of the sites and landscape this place has to offer. I Walk here every morning after i finish work, it works wonders for you both in a mental & physical capacity.
J. S.
A great place to go for a walk but no bins to put rubbish in or dog poo hence why no one picks up afterwards
K.
Spent most of my childhood here riding my bike or just walking home from school its good having it on your doorstep there used to be a BMX track too well that's what we called it in the 80s.
V. R.
Lovely woods with lots of trails and paths with the canal and river to walk by.
C. R.
Great place to walk, loads of different trails and wildlife.

M. F.
Quiet and peaceful. Hard to tell you are anywhere near a town when you are in it. Connects to the trans pennine trail for serious walkers.
Z. L.
Beautiful place I love outdoor spaces, very peaceful.
A. G. U.
Lovely area spoilt by low life yobs that haunt the canal towpath, they threatened me and pulled the mooring Pins out from my narrow boat so that the boat drifted out to the middle of the canal the Pins they threw in the canal, phoned the police from them all i got was an incident number but no action.
D. B.
Fantastic place for walking, taking a picnic and just enjoying the lovely area.
