Reviews of Theatre Royal
M. M.
Wonderful experience, went with family to watch snow white and 7 dwarfs pantomime, excellent show. The stage was great, but it was very crowded with many adults not wearing masks. They have got toilets as well.
A. M.
The Theatre Royal is stunning inside and out.
An upgrade to the seating would be a worthy investment - while there's a need for preservation of a facility there are also the comforts expected by a 21st century audience to consider.
There are rows with extra leg room but they do come at a price.
Didn't try the food or drink, but there are plenty of other reviews that mention this aspect.
h. i.
It was a really good show. Fantastic singing and dancing through out. Some bits were a bit cheesey and I didn't like the "come on Newcastle" being shouted out repeatedly but it was good and all of the ladies went full out and gave fantastic performances x
J. B. (.
Good venue, with good sound and setup. Takes a long while to get a drink as it's very crowded. Seating area doesn't give you much room but overall a reasonable setup. Saw the book of mormon here which was a fantastic show and I would recommend providing you are not easily offended 😅
A. W. R.
What a wonderful experience, thank you.
Me, the Wife & The Boy went for our first Family theatre experience to see the Da Vinci Code.
From the moment we approached the doors we were made to feel welcomed. As I'm currently on crutches due to a leg in a cast, they asked if I would be OK with our current seats. I was quite happy to squeeze in early before anyone else turned up.
Oh no, wait one moment. They came back to us with an upgrade to our very own box! Excellent. This just heightened the experience for us all. With the Box curtain drawn, it felt like we had our very own show in the privacy of our own home.
" That was awesome Dad, I'll break my leg next time." The Boy laughed.
The actors put on a great show, the staff were professional and courteous. Everyone was friendly.
We will definitely be taking in another show in the future. We've been converted.
Thank you again to the whole Team.

Second visit to this theatre, looks excellent. Only issue was the bar. Very limited choice of snacks, either olives or sweets. Also I had a G&T that tasted remarkably most unhgin like! My wife had a coffee that had clearly been standing for some time. Both undrinkable. And ice cream at £3 a tub.
Other than that it was great, play was enjoyable.
P. R.
Theatre is certainly grand but uncomfortable for modern folk. The lager was £6 a pint and flat and the ice cream wasn’t doddingtons and the spoon wasn’t fit for purpose. The show was Joseph and it was atrocious in every way. Like a school production with poor stage design and costumes and Jason Donovan as an Elvis Pharaoh I couldn’t believe what I was watching.
K. R.
The view from the upper gallery was extremely good! I was worried the view might be more restricted than it was. The theatre is beautiful and the cast of Waitress were superb!
J. T.
Me and my Fiancee took mum to see Freedom JoHannes. The attendants were amazing, they were all very professional and polite, with a smile, and very very helpful.
The performance was sensationally brilliant outstanding, and amazing. We had a clear view of the stage.
S. T.
Wonderful theatre. Nice pantomime Snow White and seven dwarfs. Beginning to end full of comedy. Me and my daughter enjoyed.
A. R. C.
Fabulous experience. Brilliant show. Fatal Attraction. Only off putting experience was some of audience opening noisy sweet and crisp packets and opening bottles of fizzy pop whilst performance going on. Perhaps a message could b conveyed prior to the start of performances to advise the public to consider others and also the artists and stay as quiet as possible in order to enjoy and hear/appreciate the show.
L. T.
As a theatre lover and someone who travels the country to visit theatres, this has to be one of my favourites! This place stunning inside and out! It attracts a wide variety of shows therefore attracting a wide audience range with something for everyone to enjoy from touring musicals, pantos, dance, comedy and more!! Very helpful staff in the box office and front of house within the theatre. Definitely worth a visit!!
G. C.
First time ever going to a panto at 35 years young. I had it in my head that I wouldn't enjoy it. Boy was I wrong. One of the greatest experiences there is to try. Was brilliant from start to finish. We watched Snow White. I'd happily go back. We all enjoyed it. Will definitely be getting seats closer to the front next time.
w. b.
Outstanding venue. Staff are really helpful. Great views from most seats. You are advised when booking that some seats are restricted view(so dont complain to me in the foyer when that's what you ordered). Its not the venues fault. Great productions getting put on. Thoroughly enjoyable experience.
M. C.
Had a lovely time last night @ The Royal Theatre Hall in Newcastle upon Tyne. To watch The da Vinci Code.
R. M.
I love this theatre - it's one of the most stunning theatres in the country. An incredible venue, which I'd previously have been giving 5 stars without a second thought. But on my recent visit, I received an email saying face coverings should be worn, and signs are displayed throughout the venue - with no expectation for people to wear them inside. If it's appreciated, say it's appreciated; if it's required, enforce it. Either way, the signage and expectations are inconsistent.
A. R.
Lovely theater, and the show was exceptional... the staff inside were lovely and the gentleman who was selling ice cream was very chatty...
However the two women outside and the person in the entrance as you arrive were very abrupt and unfriendly...
Didn't detract from a lovely night.
The could just do with better customer service in my opinion.
D. F.
Always a great venue to visit, and going cashless makes everything inside run smoother. Be aware that although you are requested to wear a mask during the performance, there were only a handful doing so when we were there.
J. T.
Such a wonderful colourful high energy and fun production of Joseph at Theatre Royal tonight. Scenery costumes music lights dancing humour emotion...it was all there. Amazing Bible story 🌾⭐Really enjoyed it.
Staff courteous and helpful. Theatre really smart.
J. P.
As always, an excellent venue. Friendly & helpful staff. Would have been nice if more people wore masks. Parking can be tricky depending on how busy the city centre is so best to allow plenty of time.
s. m.
Nice greeting as we arrived to this beautiful old building, very pleasant staff and a great show OTI
B. F.
First visit here, watched "six" thoroughly enjoyed the performance. We were seated on the second floor which had full visibility of the whole of the stage. Only comment to make is that the seats were fixed so if a bigger person needed to cross your path it was made a little more difficult When seat didn't fold up, although not impossible. I would visit again
J. B.
Beautiful theatre and helpful and friendly staff. Went to see Johannes Radebe in his show 'Freedom' a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The whole production was amazing including the fantastic supporting dancers and singers. The best part for me was the privilege of actually seeing Johannes dancing and to hear his story spoken by the man himself. What a talent he is and a lovely, gentle person who I feel truly deserves his success.
J. S.
I took 42 kids on a school trip. The host at the door was amazing and scanned us all in no problem. We then had more hosts at the entrance to seats and everything was really swift. Kids had a great time and already booked our next show
K. I.
This theatre brings life to the hustle bustle of the city centre. The decor is quite victorian.
The seats aren't the most comfortable but it is a dated building, so to be expected I guess.
Be prepared with respect to parking which is limited around the theatre. The purchase of the ticket does entitle you to free journey on the metro, so might be worth taking that until consideration when planning.
J. J.
Brilliant night at Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Everything about the night was fantastic apart from the fact that they sold out of programmes, which has happened a few times recently.
M. G.
Went to see paul chowdhry - family friendly. Was amazing the theater is very clean, staff are polite and friendly. The North East has the best panto and would definitely recommend this place to watch them
E. M.
This was my first visit to this wonderful theatre. The view of the stage was unimpeded and the seats very comfortable. Staff were helpful and friendly and professional at all times. There is facilitie to pre order drinks for the intermission and service was quick and efficient. This theatre is well worth the visit for all the family to enjoy well performed stage plays
J. N.
Probably the best theatre in North East by far. The building is magnificent and the quality of the productions are first class. The chairs are comfortable and the bar, in my opinion is fairly priced for a theatre.
D. R.
My wife and I went to see the show "The Play Where Everything Goes Wrong" at Theatre Royal. The play was phenomenal, I've never laughed so hard at show!
The theatre was very nice and everything was very well organizing. My only complaint would be the lack of leg room, it was very tight seating, at least where we were in the Upper Circle section.
J. B.
Brilliant theatre. Good choice of productions. Comfortable seating. I have been going to this theatre for almost 70 years and it has made happy memories and tickets for forthcoming events builds it into my future as well.
J. H.
Matthew Bourne's The Nutcracker.
Well, we were in the Gods so knew view would be a little restricted so coped with that. Also, seats next to us were unoccupied (but not available when booking?) hence we moved along after a respectable time for people to arrive, this improved the view slightly. Theatre was well managed, staff polite, facilities clean, performance excellent.
j. e.
Sat in the front row, and we could see into the orchestra pit. To be honest not as much leg room as I thought. However, the show was fab, I would definitely recommend it.
S. O.
Visited on a Wednesday afternoon. Front stalls, great view. Fabulous show. Lovely old atmospheric theatre but regular draughts and blasts of really cold air felt on shoulder so quite uncomfortable.
E. R.
Staff were amazing. I had an injury a few days ago which resulted in me with crutches and a swollen leg the staff put me and my friend in a box with pillows and extra chair to keep my leg raised and comfortable and checked regularly that I was okay. Cannot thank them enough.
D. O.
What a great show, enjoyed every minute of it.
Brilliant singers and actors.
Would definitely recommend it. Brings back lots of memories. Would love to see it again
D. G.
Saw the Misfits put on their play "The play that goes wrong" and it was fantastic! A gorgeous theater with plenty of snack options at intermission. 10/10 venue would recommend.
C.
I absolutely love this theatre. Went to see Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker last week and it was stunning. Back again later this week too. Keep on coming and support this incredible place!
A. H.
Lovely theatre. It was my first visit and I drove from central Scotland to see a specific show but I'd do it again. Very handy for the Metro too.
J. R.
Nice venue, seats were comfortable, snacks are nice all priced fairly reasonably, went to see the goes wrong show which was fantastic, the only down side was that we weren't allowed in until 15 minutes after the play was due to start, everyone was crammed into the entrance area, other than that it was fantastic
M. H.
Lovely theatre. However have to lose one star due to gap between seats being too narrow. Sitting through two hours with knees against next row of seats not good. Time for a revamp. Please note I am just 6ft. Have been to Lowry in Manchester and Alnwick playhouse in the last two weeks. They are now my go-to theatres.
B. P.
Centre of town and easily accessible by public transport. Seats were fantastic and not too cramped!
T. H.
Poor legroom for tall people as it's an old theatre. The play was Pinter's The Homecoming. Brilliant acting but not what you'd actually call enjoyable or uplifting.
A. H.
Went to see the Da Vinci Code - plenty of facilties, fair amount of accessibility, ability to order from seats for interval. Staff are always friendly and help people be considerate of others. We love coming here and the building is so beautiful, we always feel warmly welcomed wherever we step through the doors.
L. N.
Came here to watch Joseph and his technicolour dreamcoat. The performance was excellent and included children playing some key roles . The service from staff was excellent and very helpful.
A very enjoyable experience
M. N.
The theatre Royal building is fabulous and the staff are lovely. But the show we went to see ,the da vinci code, was very disappointing. I read the book which was brilliant and saw the film which was good but lacked some vital information in the script. So was very disapointed by the theatre production. If you did not know the story it would in my opinion just seem like a big maths session with numbers appearing and the explanations not explained plainly . Some actors could not be heard properly and some spoke too fast so you missed some of their script. Nope it was not good. Four stars is mainly because of the venue and staff. Only lost one star because show was not good.
e. D.
We went to watch the davinci code for our wedding anniversary tonight and had a great time . Lovely theatre and friendly staff. The play was great and we had a wonderful evening
L. G.
Have seen two shows in the past two weeks, Beautiful and Dreamboats & Petticoats and both were fantastic. We had no trouble getting into the theatre, no queues when checking in or through bag search.
W. B.
One of the best theatre performances I've ever seen. The cast were excellent in every department. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
D. C.
Beautiful theatre, was well organised. OK drink selection though beer was in plastic glass. The show we seen was amazing.
J. M.
A beautiful venue but cramped seating for a bloke of 193cm. (6ft 4ins). I always have to sit end of row. Otherwise no complaints.
M. F.
Went to the Theatre Royal to see ,,, Beautiful The Carol King story ,,,,,In one word Fabulous ,the show was non stop singing and dancing , Excellent value for money and as usual wonderful helpful staff members, After so long it's heart warming to see the theatre getting back to normal , Can not wait till Saturday to see Dreamboats and Petticoats ,,A Hugh Thank You to all at the Theater Royal,🤗🤗
T. M.
Excellent afternoon. Very good show.
S. H.
Very helpful staff when I couldn't find my e-ticket. Beautiful theatre. Well worth a visit.
D. B.
Great to get back to the theatre. Staff efficient and very friendly. Show great. Performance excellent.
L. B.
My favourite theatre ever. We go every year to see the panto, and this year's did not disappoint. In fact it was the best they've ever done!
We never stopped laughing the entire night, even when we scared the bus was going to fall on us (front row!)
J. C.
Just been to see Johannes Rabede Freedom show. What a fantastic show it was too! The costumes are brilliant, the dancers are fantastic and Johannes is just truly amazing!! The whole show is well worth a visit!
C. P.
So fantastic to be back in the Theatre Royal again after many years. We were there for the ballet...which was fantastic
P. C.
I have been to watch singing in the rain withy daughter, I have gone to the theatre fo.years.but today was the best time ever I can't find the words I.have loved this film since I was 5 and today this show was.wow best show ever made.this lady very happy .
M. F.
Lovely theatre, great show on Wednesday 8th, brilliant production, but we had partial view seating circle 40/41 , you could not see the left hand side of the stage, admitttngly the action was mostly on that side, in first half of show, people in our row could see the problem, they kindly moved up at the interval, as two seats were unoppcupied, which saved the day, I really don't think these seats should be sold as partial viewing, but the show otherwise was first class.
J. N.
Beautiful theatre, near some good bars. Went to see Joseph and it was fabulous, all staff so pleasant and helpful
A. G.
As already said this is a beautiful theatre which is easy to access from the metro if local- this view is from the Grand circle partial view seat - very little on stage missed.
K. B.
Wonderful polite staff only too willing to help. Beautiful interiors conformable seats. Genuinely a great choice of Venue!!
C. S.
Great to get back into the Theatre but also so happy that there is some great theatre to enjoy .
R. (.
Stunning theatre on the equally stunning Grey Street in Newcastle.
S. R.
Fantastic, beautiful theatre. Enjoyed the show. Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat.
L. F.
Theatre Royal, Newcastle is an excellent venue for many Stage Productions! We adore our many visits to watch and enjoy Musicals, Pantomimes, Drama, Thrillers & many more.....Love it💞
L. C.
Had a fabulous night ,staff very helpful and friendly
S. G.
Went to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Great performance and the theatre is really nice too. Highly recomend.
A. A.
Incredible building. The theater is very well kept and still retains this old classic feeling.
P. C.
The annual panto didn't disappoint! Danny Adams and team yet again have produced an exceptional performance despite the cast being struck short by infection. The Theatre Royal is a great venue, despite sitting in the cheap seats you still feel close enough to get the full feel of the show. A great old venue, great cast, great time.
D. C.
Nice staff and building. But if your scared of heights and big drops the upper levels are not for you. *gulp*
A. H.
Another great pantomime at the Theatre Royal plenty of laughter and surprises will be going again next year, just every one had to wear a mask in the ordnance but if that's what it takes to keep it open we can cope with that. GREAT KEEP IT UP.
L. A. H.
Brilliant Panto. Extremely hardworking entertainers. The laughter, relaxation and appreciation of a live performance lifted everyone morale and mood. Realised how much we all need this sort of entertainment to get us through the present situation. Definitely worth a visit. Thank you Theatre Royal and staff.
J.
Leg room is a little on the small side, anyone 6ft and taller would benefit sitting on the ground floor/aisle seats due to leg room. Otherwise, a great theatre, lovely staff and a great venue for musicals, plays and dance performances.
K. T.
Seats aren't the best - to be expected in such a venue - but drinks reasonably priced and great service
S. H.
Amazing performances, perfect for all the family with both children and adult humour. Such a feel good place guaranteed to cheer you up. Everyone no matter what age loves the theatre. Lovely old style building aswell.
D. W.
Been to the theatre royal a few times and never had a bad experience! Recently went to see Paul Chowdry and had a fab time as always.
Tickets were super easy to book online and really reasonable. Was kept up to date right the way up until the event. Access inside was easy, clean & tidy as always and it truly is such a beautiful place inside.
Only gripe was the queues to get a drink (I was desperate for some water!) were stupidly long… my partner had to scurry off to grab a drink during the show after everyone had came back in after the interval. But other than that… great!
E. P.
Friendly staff. Easy to find your seat. Comfortable venue and easy to get a drink at the interval.
The show was excellent too!
E. G.
Great venue for plays. A grand building with good access and a lift. Helpful staff and comfortable seating all go towards an enjoyable experience.
B. F.
Asked to wear masks but not enforced, and fewer people wore them the longer the night went on.
The seats are certainly from a period before being overweight was a thing, so don’t even consider going if you’re fat.
P. W.
The 2021 panto is mad. Full of smut! Great fun after the last 2 years we have endured.
J. W.
Fantastic night at the pantomime, staff were great. Its great to be back in the theatre.
C. W.
We have been to the theatre on a number of occasions. Staff are friendly and helpful.
G. S.
Fantastic place 2 see a show, staff great, good to be back, have booked 2 see some more shows especially musicals,
W. J.
Was there today to see Remember the Oscars. Fantastic show. Theatre Royal lovely place. Staff very friendly. Thank you xx
C. D.
Xmas panto is the perfect tonic to another miserable year. Like all good comedy it works for both kids and the adults on different levels. I haven't laughed so hard for ages. Theatre is a nice cozy size and easy to feel close to the performance. If you've never been you'll never know what a treat you're missing.
P. B.
Exceptional show and amazing staff! (Need better card machines and/or internet!) But it couldn't have been much better! Our 4 year old sons first play! He was enthralled! ❤️
C. F.
I paid what for 2 tickets !? and I was on the top floor at the back. However the show was good and theatre is very nice inside. A credit to Newcastle
M. A. D.
Wonderful theatre, The Nutcracker was wonderful, so.funny and lively. A most refreshing use of Tchaikovsky's glorious score.
G. G.
First time there and it was great. Staff friendly and all signs to seats etc clearly marked
F. R.
Went last night with my husband to see Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Great fun for all ages.
It's the first pantomime we've been to since we were children.
The theatre is a beautiful building and it's wonderful knowing it's open again after all the hassle of covid last year.
E.
Lovely theatre, staff are very polite and helpful. Theatre is quite small though so it is a bit chaotic moving around but other than that it’s a beautiful building.
G. W.
Great theatre, staff are very helpful with disabled people and seating is good good also would definitely recommend this place.
S. R.
A lovely theatre. Very well run, happy and efficient staff and a great show
P. R.
Yeah excellent friendly staff great show, seating comfortable, would go back.
J. F.
Great show (singing in the rain) lovely theater, great atmosphere, very helpful staff.
R. R.
Went to see Joseph the show was amazing, really enjoyed it ,staff were very helpful and friendly
L. R.
The Theatre itself never disappoints. I always enjoy my visits especially to the Opera
J. H.
A beautifully kept old theatre - good viewing and a magical performance made for a very good night out. The theatre caters very well for the audience with a bar, kiosk and toilets and disabled facilities on all three floors so the queues in the interval were kept to a minimum if you hadn't pre-ordered your drinks. Would recommend a visit highly.
C. M.
A beautiful theatre with very efficient and helpful staff and brilliant presentations for example Sir Matthew Bourne's 5 star Nutcracker.
J. W.
Enjoyed the show I would recommend people to start going back to the theatre
P. T.
Brilliant time yesterday watching Singing in the Rain, there was definitely a few big splashes of water 💧
R. G.
Went to see Joseph with a school trip, the staff were very helpful and made the whole experience very enjoyable.
M. J.
Great place to go see a show in Newcastle upon Tyne.
If you are going with friends or family, make sure you book up early for some of the more popular events as they can sell out quite quickly.
Matthew Bourne has done amazing shows there over the last few years.
You book tickets online, over the phone or at the box office.
J. B.
A theatre with an epic interior and really polite and friendly Geordie staff. One of the best places in Newcastle.
P. C.
A beautiful theatre unfortunately the views can leave alot to be desired especially when compared to the likes of the Sage. Always has an excellent selection of shows on however.
P. M.
Can't beat live entertainment and this theatre has it all. FANTASTIC
F. M.
Beautiful building. Lovely staff and reasonably priced drinks
j. O.
Snow White and the seven dwarfs: stunning lighting and costumes, amazing set, vocals and special effects but above all hilarious from start to finish. Me and my grandson loved it.
d. h.
Da vinci code ..tremendous with danny john jules
D. P.
I saw a show, it was very well done and a great venue to attend
K. T.
Wonderful theatre, performing mostly musicals which seem to go down very well with audiences.
M. B.
Happy that theatres are open again however no social distancing within the seating and we had to wear a mask throughout the performance. This was quite uncomfortable and very hot and I appreciate not the venues fault.
A great theatre though and would recommend it.
L. T.
This is a hard one as the place is beautiful but the seating is very tight, no leg room and definitely a numb bum during long performances.
k. k.
Good entertainment with plenty of variety in show's. Excellent service when you get there. Always had a good time when I went to a show ☺️
L. L.
Haven't been for a long time, in fact, Charlton Heston starred alongside Roy Kinnear in A Man for All Seasons. That's how long ago it was.
Feb 2017 Update . Just went to the ballet. Excellent night, superb view from the grand circle, but I think the view would be great from anywhere in the theatre. It's not the biggest, but this adds to the charm of the place.
J. H.
Absolutely amazing performance last night so funny and the special affects were first class would highly recommend never stopped laughing from start to finish danny was the star of the show for me but well done to the full cast
G. E.

I visited to see The Drifters girl with my sister this was absolutely fantastic. Well done to the actors 👏 it brought back alot of great memories through the music. Shame that the audience can't dance when it's appropriate x
A. A.
How amazing it has been to get back to see a show. Stringent social distancing and hygiene was in place. The atmosphere was electric, the staff gorgeous. Great wheelchair access and assistance too. Can't wait for the next one!

Beautiful building and incredibly helpful staff, but there are a few views that are incredibly restricted and that's very disappointing.
S. M.
Amazing pantomime - 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. Traditional theatre with modern effects. Thoroughly recommended for a great family afternoon out. Lots of laughs to be had - I was crying with laughter!
E. A.
Only used the theatre but seats comfortable & decor excellent.
C. W.
My friend and myself have just returned from the "Snow White Panto" this evening, after a 2 year delay. It was absolutely wonderful and we laughed soo hard it was hilarious.
M.
Always a lovely experience at the theatre royal!
P. M.
Visited theTheatre Royal to see 'Everyone's Talking about Jamie'. Absolutely fantastic. Amazing production. We wore masks but were surprised how many people didn't even though it was advised.
C. D.
The panto here is the best I have ever seen and just keeps getting better. They are all brilliant and funny even if they do have a pop at sunderland every year 🤣.. can't wait for next year.. acccideerrrrnt 🤣🤣
E. L.
Lovely to get back in to see a live performance...in this case The DaVinci Code.. The Building is Wonderfully Decorated & Ornate.. Staff were Brilliant & Friendly ...🤗🤗
J. J.
It's the morning after the night before as I pen this, and my coccyx have just about recovered, need I say any more.
K. P.
Went to see the Drifters Girl. Chocka block with audience. Had to wear masks throughout, but wasn't a bad price to pay for the facilities and the excellent show. Will definitely be going to this theatre again
A. J.
Alway a good experience here. Customers not so much. Told before booking masks are compulsory (unless exempt). Didn't realise 90% of theatre goers exempt! Show The Drifters Girl was superb. Beverley Knight and cast top class. Facilities the West End sadly lacks. R
S. C.
Really nice theatre with comfy seats. Saw Ade Edmondson and Nigel Planer in Vulcan 7. I enjoyed it immensely although a few left during the performance as it was a bit too sweary for them.
C. M.
I love the theatre Royal with all its refurbished splendor... The cast of Heathers were amazing. Brought tears to my eyes... In a great way. I was sad when it was over.
W. M.
Brilliant night at Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker. Love the Theatre Royal.
s. r.
Had a fantastic time at the ballet, enjoyed a glass of wine in the bar lovely comfortable theatre
M. S.
So happy to be back in this beautiful venue with an amazing performance of The Nutcracker
I. P.
Beautiful building with magnificent interior at the centre of town
Easily accessible from bus or metro
M. C.
Exceptionally cramped. Masks are encouraged but not enforced and considering you nearly sit on top of the people next to you, it felt the most covid-unsafe place I've ever been to.
R. F.
Went to watch Snow White and the seven dwarfs . Amazing show . Laughed loads and the kids loved it . Be back next year for sure
L. I.
Beautiful building, amazed it has B rating on EPC which is fabulous! Thoroughly enjoyed the show we saw, great seats & facilities, courteous staff throughout. We will be back.
g. w.
So nice to get back to the theatre. Everything was well organised. Felt very safe although we wore masks throughout as requested but the only negative was a lot of people did not
K. G.
There to watch Singing in the Rain & it didn't disappoint in anyway 👏👌👍
H. C.
Great show, beautiful theatre
E. H.

Brilliant performance considering the circumstances really appreciate the hard work the cast have put in to create a memorable night
L. D.
I always love visiting this theatre, it's proper
L. C.
Totally amazing, beautiful place and the staff were all incredibly helpful
J. H.
Attended a few events here as my local large scale production house. Brilliant space, great view from almost all seats even the gods. Just hope the behaviour of attendees improves. People taking calls, on whatsapp or instagram and recording songs etc throught the last 2 shows i saw
M. W.
Went to see Danny Adams in Peter Pan this year, it was no surprise that the show was amazing! The venue was great although there could have been more toilets and parking spaces provided.
N. T.
Fantastic venue s , great atmosphere 👍
J. B.
Absolutely brilliant to be back at the theatre Royal,as usual the pantomime was non stop entertainment, great time had by all the family, well done theatre royal

Excellent show
Seats in Grand Circle very hard.
t. m.
Beautiful, perfectly named after the show we saw.
H. T.
Love going to the theatre royal, its a beautiful theatre and the seating and facilities are great
C. B.
It was amazing to go back to a live performance, I didn't realise howmuch I missed it. The differencewas you had to wear a mask but it is a small price to pay.
The play, was "Educating Rita" & it was really good. Well done to every one who helped put the play together. Thank you
P. S.
Beautiful theatre. Seats are well spaced and comfy though your butt may go numb in a long performance 😋
P. H.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks. A great show. Actors and musicians absolutely brilliant. Stage work and scenery was amazing. No social distancing and theatre almost full.
T. W.
Give 5 stars for performance of the Drifter girl
Fantastic show and acting and wow the vocals out of this world
2 Stars for the theatre royal for bag checking.masks and only card payment at bar in this day and age why cant they take cash the legal first tender of our country
By law they have to take cash but no only card so what happens if you dont have a card
To be dictated what you can fo when government says no
S. D.
Love the sound of staff radio chatter to really immerse me in my show.
M. R.
Went to see the show SIX. Brilliant show, amazing singing, funny and a great ending.
M. I.
Fantastic, show was brilliant only downside no lift to gallery...Great day out with my grandaughter ..very professional
I. P.
Excellent production of the Da vinci code 👏 nigel harman was very good.
m. b.
Stunning building! Staff are very friendly and courteous.
R. B.
Had a great night seeing Fatal Attraction. Wonderful customer service.
s. o.
Great venue, toilets need a refresh and bar staff need to learn some customer service, I felt singled out by one woman who was just rude and aggressive, I ordered a pint and it ran out half way through - apparently this was my fault. She then asked if I wanted a bottle or wait for the line to change... So I said how long will that take to which I received "as long as it takes" in an aggressive snappy manner. Avoiding confrontation I just said ok il wait, she then insistef on charging me before pouring the pint and was very obnoxious.
Luckily the performance was good but wouldn't rush back to this venue, shame because bboc office staff were 10/10 and incredibly helpful, efficient and polite!
D. F.
This has to be one of most impressive theatres in the world. A truly landmark building in the heart of Newcastle.
This is a must visit for anybody coming to the city.
Another great night.
M. M.
Love this theatre,really friendly
B. F.
Beautiful theatre but my seat wasn't the best! The show was great!
S. G.
As ever a fantastic theatre and great show. School of Rock was awesome, some amazingly talented young people. Really enjoyed the show.
M. N.
Excellent experience, well staffed and comfortable.
T. B.
Enjoyed the show, access to grand circle easy, we had to wear masks from going in until coming out unless eating or drinking.
J. D.
Lovely theatre only issue I have is they still charge high prices for ' limited view tickets!
L. C.
Thursday 23rd September went to see Blood Brothers Matinee my son was feeling unwell due to treatment he is having but a lovely ladie called Lynn really looked after us and saved the day Thank you Lynn I hope this gets to you xxx
M. C.
Great venue and atmosphere. Brilliant acts on regularly, well worth a trip to this classic theatre
c. b.
We went to watch Carmen last week and had a great experience. Brilliant production, friendly staff in a truly majestic building. Thank you.
K. C.
Drifter Girls show was beyond amazing. Would go and see it again in a heartbeat. Theatre Royal is beautiful and staff were extremely helpful.

Newcastle Theatre Royal
I love this venue. Have been on my own, with friends and with young family, and have always found the experience 1st class.
The auditorium itself is large, with comfortable seating with terrific views from most areas. You can check ahead or online for restricted viewing areas. Booster seats are always on hand for the little ones, so they can enjoy equally good viewing.
The staff are all 1st rate. Very knowledgeable, friendly and willing to help.
The theatre has wheelchair/disabled access and restrooms, with staff always on hand to assist.
Snacks and drinks, including alcohol are available around the theatre. Truly wonderful venue.
A. L.
Saw Mama Mia here last night, first time back since I was around 17 years old, and the Theatre still has that magical feel.
The staff are always super friendly, and more than happy to assist you getting to your seats. There are lifts, for those who cant manage the amount of stairs, and a bar on the grand and upper levels.
The seats are comfy, but a little snug, so toy might find your elbows hitting your neighbours lol.
Mama Mia itself was amazing! I've wanted to see this live for a while now, and boy, it was fantastic.
L. S.
Lovely intimate theatre... beautiful architecture
G. N.
Gorgeous theatre and friendly staff
E. D.
Have too say love Theatre Royal, blood brothers no less than Brilliant!
Minor complaint -too hot in upper circle, quite stuffy! Glad to get out into fresh air
C. M.
Great show, nice staff.
D. S.
A good old style theatre, lovingly decorated and important for me, enough legroom in the gods!
G. H.
Fantastic venue, a great evening out
J. T.
We were sat in row N of the stalls and there was plenty of legroom. We were really lucky, nobody was sat in front of us, so we had a great view of the stage
R. O.
One of my favourite venues! Comfortable seats at affordable prices. Plenty of restaurants and pubs around for an after theatre drink!
I. M.
I enjoyed the superseats in the stalls. Mask wearing was compulsory and the temperature was nice and cool, although I'll wear a jumper next time!
P. R.
Was very comfortable staff was very helpful 5* all round
S. A.
Wonderful venue and exceptional staff.
S. S.
Amazing time at the theatre royal. Beyond professional and kind staff. Fantastic shows. Easy to access facilities. Long lines during busy shows but that's to be expected. Drinks are a little pricey and so is food but what more do you expect from a place like that its top class. Would reccomend theatre royal for any and every show! Good viewing from almost every seat too. Even partial viewing. Just mind the legroom at the front seats on balcony
V. E.
Superb venue and excellent staff.
e. w.
Wonderful theatre, the Addams family was excellent
A. W.
Funniest show ever. Snow White. Fantastic. Will book again to see it for the second time as it was fantastic.
J. P.
Even though its been recently refurbished the seats are uncomfortable.
I. P.
It's a nice place but the seating is very very cramped
G. S.
What can you say ? It's the theatre royal,,,,, fabulous !!
l. h.
Beautiful building...orchestra sounded amazing..such a stunning building
S. W.
I’ve been lucky enough to catch a number of performances here. Whether Christmas panto or We will rock you. The Theatre is a stunning building inside and out. Drinks prices are reasonable and it’s always a good idea to preorder for the interval before act 1.
I’m 6’2” and struggle with leg room in some of the seats. However a number of the stalls have more leg room than the others. I’m not 100% as I’m doing this review from memory rather than a visit today but row d and f I think have good leg room that taller people should be comfortable in.
A. J.
Very good night. Seen Adam's Family, good laugh.
G. H.
Bedknobs and broomsticks. Great show. Theatre well laid out and organised. Took a star off them because we all thought the seats were uncomfortable
C. N.
Great old building been quite a few times thoroughly enjoyed the show, face masks have to be worn everywhere in the theatre.
T. G.
Beautiful place..was great to be back in the theatre and staff were wonderful welcoming people saying "nice to see you again"
m. h.
Beautiful Theatre - Brilliant Show - it's just that I was sat in front of someone who decided to keep kicking my seat - I have took kids with better theatre etiquette to shows - must be a northeast problem but 1 Richard head will not stop me visiting
J. G.
Beautiful theatre. Have enjoyed numerous plays and musicals here. Having sat in both the stalls and grand circle can only recommend grand circle. Seats may be rather narrow and leg room poor but it is an old theatre. People must have eaten less years ago. Staff very nice and pleasant.
J. T.
I don't go to the theatre very often, but found Theatre Royal to be excellent. The building has a beautiful exterior and the performance we watched, Pride & Prejudice, was great. We had comfy seats and good views, with somewhat limited leg room, but it wasn't an issue. Staff were very polite and we really enjoyed our evening.
b. s.
It iş wonderfull place .I like swam lake too.
A. T.
Saw Bed Knobs and Broomsticks, as well as Magic Goes Wrong. Lovely venue, seats were good and handling of covid protocols were well done
L. W.
Brilliant place. Service was excellent
D. M.
Danny, Joe and the guys gave the best performance and the theatre was magnificent
C. R.
Canny pricey for drinks and snacks if you're after that, but everything else was brilliant. Great service and brilliant show.
M. K.
Years since I was here but blown away by it. Beautiful theatre, smaller than I remember but so elegant. I'm making it my aim to visit often, perhaps learn about opera as they show a lot of that. We saw an inspector calls, which was so imaginative, loved it. We went to matinee and not sure if I minded people not being ' dressed' and turning up with shopping bags. Guess I shouldn't as theatre is for all and everyone loved it judging by the thunderous applause.
L. H.
A stunningly beautiful theater and superbly looked after. If you are in the upper circle or gods you'll have lots of stairs to climb unfortunately but other than that an amazing theatre. Les Miserables was awesome when we saw it.
G. E.
Absolutely awesome to be back at the theatre after 18 months due to the lockdowns.
Had to wear a mask during the performance but a small price to pay.
Z. B.
Love the place. Generally the performances are very good.
j.
Always love going with me mum and the nephew cant beat a good play.
r. m. (.
Good variety of shows. Though sometimes seats are prohibitively expensive. I usually opt for the stalls..admittedly dearest. Plenty of leg room and usually good clear view and I'm not very tall. Staff are unfailingly polite, friendly and helpful. Provision for wheelchair users. . It's a beautiful and historic building.
A. L.
Marvelous experience, great in house service, well done team x
J. G.
Beautiful architectural and plenty of leg room in the stalls.Helpful hosts with all may need to enjoy a beautiful evening.
C.
Brilliant production of Holes. Staff and facilities were great, too. Performance was spoiled somewhat by the constant chattering in some sections of the audience. I understand that there's little the theatre can do about this but a reminder, similar to those in the cinema, about talking and turning mobile phones off might be useful. We'll return regardless.
K.
Lovely theatre. Sat in amphitheatre section. Staff talking to late comers through show wasn't appreciated.
j. l.
Wonderful to be back in this gorgeous Theatre.
Full house for excellent show(Jamie).
Well organised for coping with Covid.
c.
Great sight lines. Loved Opera North and Phoenix Dance.
s. m.
Best pantomime ive seen, hilarious, great cast, costumes, and set.
S. M.
Amazing pantomime - 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. Traditional theatre with modern effects. Thoroughly recommended for a great family afternoon out. Lots of laughs to be had - I was crying with laughter!
D. E.
Great night. Blown away with the show will go again
K. C.
Drifter Girls show was beyond amazing. Would go and see it again in a heartbeat. Theatre Royal is beautiful and staff were extremely helpful.
E. D.
Have too say love Theatre Royal, blood brothers no less than Brilliant!
Minor complaint -too hot in upper circle, quite stuffy! Glad to get out into fresh air
P. S.
School of Rock in an excellent venue
J. S.
Great production and adaptation of the books
A. Y.
We went to see bed knobs and broomsticks and had a great evening. Its a beautiful theatre and has a great atmosphere.
I. S.
Gorgeous theatre with an excellent program of performances
P. B.
Panto time be back next year God WILLING 🙏 brilliant, as per normal 👏
J.
Loved the theatre! So grand and amazing. Sat at the very top but I could still get a clear view and sound of what was going on on stage. Of course sitting on the first or second tier would be better, but the price for the third was super affordable for the quality I got. :) watched girl on the train btw. Amazing <3
n. 1.
The theatre royal is a fabulous venue for a wide range of theatre productions. It's a great place for children to watch a pantomime and the adults to watch Shakespeare all the way to an inspector calls. There's a bar on the 2nd floor to get drinks and snacks in the intermission (or any other time of the production) and great staff to go along side it to tend to a wide variety of needs. The seats in the theatre are extremely comfy and the staff may supply boosters for the little ones as well. One downside to this heap of praise is the overpricing of food and drink which is tolerable but slightly annoying when all you want to do is enjoy a beer while watching a play. To circumvent this you are able to bring in your own food and drink, however they may take cans and glasses (drinking glasses) for health and safety reasons. The building, however, is beautifully designed and decorated with 1800s art and sculpting and as another bonus, the toilets are often very clean.
Overall, the theatre royal is one of best theatres I've ever been to, with its fabulous decor, brilliant staff and comfy seats. A day out to the theatre royal often brings a smile to many faces.
S. E.
Took 8 yr old to watch snow white and 7 dwarves, fantastic show.
S. J.
Haven't been here since about 2003? Went to see the Scottish play here recently which was full of energy and great performances, which I probably would have lost if I sat further back. The view was great from my seat (about midway through stalls). The decoration inside is also stunning! Staff were great, no issues! So glad more amazing shows I'm interested in are coming here; Les Mis here I come!
P. “. V.
A wonderfully restored building. Affording unhindered views of the stage. The theatre has a wide variety of stage productions and therefore appeals to a large audience. As with all theatres you will need a large mortgage to purchase any products or drinks. I would say overall I have always had pleasant experiences at this venue.
S. T.
And old but lovley theatre that puts on lots of great shows. A decent selection of drinks and snacks (although the sweet stand didn't take card), clean toilets and relatively comfy seats. I've never sat in the box, but I saw those that did had to lean over to see everything happening on stage. I really enjoyed my visit here though, definitely would go again
J. W.
Well run lovely theatre.
B. L. C.
Great entertainment, seating well set out
M. A.
Love going here. Although it can totally depend on the audience surrounding you. We saw The Bodyguard in the summer & a group next to us were fairly drunk, also had drinks with them, the staff had to ask them several times to be quiet & at one point security came & stood at the end of the aisle until the end of the performance.
Why anyone would want to spoil other peoples enjoyment due to alcohol is beyond me, it’s not as if it’s a cheap night out for most theatre goers.
Staff dealt with it quickly.
Off to see We will Rock You soon
5*
H. M.
Beautiful iconic theatre with amazing shows. Great to be back seeing live performances.
I. H. R. H. C.
Great theatre and lovely staff.
R. C.
We took my mum to see Les Miserables. This is a review of the theatre rather than the show (the show itself was great - my wife, who has seen it in both the West End and Broadway declared it the best version she's seen).
The Theatre Royal is an old, traditional theatre. It's a bit of a labyrinth - a trip to the gents felt like a voyage of discovery - and the seats aren't the most comfortable. After the 90 minute first act, I definitely needed to get up and move around.
What it lacks in comfort though, it definitely makes up in atmosphere. It's has bags of personality and charm. We were in the stalls and a great, unimpeded view of the stage.
P. D.
Took the grand kids to see snow White and it was a great day and a fantastic show
L. S.
Brilliant to be back. Masks where no problem to be worn at the duration of the panto.
l. k.
Brilliant theatre in the heart if town fabulous night and great access to the best restaurants and drinks and transport fab
T. C. L.
Wonderful Theatre full of lovely people. A very interesting program that finds talent for all walks of life. Great bars & a relaxing front of house, the auditorium comfortable with approachable ushers that clearly love the Theatre. Good Pantomime at Christmas & a warm welcome awaits. If you visit this area worth going to see a show here
A. M.
Performed in the theatre during 2012/2022 pantomime season of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
A. i. N.
Arrive early as parking was quite difficult for us (although this could have been because we were there on a Friday night).... we've been several times before But this was the first time we have sat on the very top floor and I would avoid it whenever possible as it felt like the seats were tilting forwards. It's a beautiful building but I prefer other local theatres as the seats here feel more cramped together. We watched the comedy about a bank robbery and the show itself was great. Bring snacks as their prices are ridiculous....take note that bags are checked on entry!
R. C.
A fantastic theatre, high quality production too.
A.
The Bodyguard, starring Alexandra Burke was AWESOME! She sang amazing and all the cast were awesome too. I've never seen the film, but the stageshow was great, the sound effects and lighting just as great. If you want brownie points off yr other half, and they love the film, they will absolutely love the show. Great venue too.
P. M.
Always an absolute pleasure visiting. Done birthday tradition to attend the Pantomime which is hilarious every single year!
L. S.
Went to see Holes with my kids, absolutely fabulous performance from the actors. The only problem was school kids sitting behind us, the all raw and some next to us had their sweets/crisps stash out and kept eating them the hole time, I was very distracted and it was hard to hear the actors at some point. Very disrespectful towards the actors and other viewers who has paid a lot of money to enjoy the performance. I think food should be forbidden in theaters, just like in most of the theaters and opera houses in the Europe. Some manners?!
N. A.
Les Miserables was absolutely fantastic.
Joseph and his amazing technicolor dreamcoat was also great 👍🏻
D. L.
A absolutely gorgeous theater to go to if you are visiting from out of the area I definitely would try to catch a show. Once inside there is a cafe and a bar ice-cream and other sundries are there to buy usually during break in the show. I have visited many times over the years and I always leave satisfied and looking forward to the next show.
N. I.
Great venue. Iconic building set right in the heart of Newcastle. Nice facilities inside and lots of seating. My only complaint would be the seats themselves - they are not the most comfortable and have been there a while. If you're in for a long show you may be a bit uncomfortable by the end. Otherwise it's a great venue with a variety of different shows through the year.
J. C.
First time at the Theatre Royal and was impressed by the building and the seating, although not much room for people to pass in the upper circle.
2nd time of seeing We Will Rock You and I enjoyed this one more. I like the updates that have been made to it, nothing felt out of place in the song lyrics and the cast were superb.
Y. W.
Great show, helpful, friendly staff
L. H.
Excellent acoustics, superb show, refreshing ice cream (though I'd have preferred a local brand like Doddington's) and seats so much better since the refurbishment. A top class theatre and a wonderful asset to the city. Very friendly staff too.
E. S.
Love the Theatre Royal building is beautiful, staff are generally nice and friendly.
Seats are comfortable but a tight squeeze when people want to be past you.
Only let down are the ladies toilets they are not maintained very well and very smelly, I try not to use them when i go.
R. R.
Absolutely fantastic place!!
N. C.
Absolutely love going to the theatre, it's such a beautiful building & you can see the stage anywhere in the theatre. The last play I went to see was Love from a stranger, the stage was set up brilliantly & everything was great. Well worth a visit as there's always something on for everybody. Highly recommended.
A.
A grand big place where the hygiene is top and the seats are comfy. The throw the most hilarious enjoyable shows for anyone and everyone. Friends or family will treat you like a king/queen if you treat them to a trip their.
h. c.
Absolutely amazing experience. I went to see Les Mis and the whole play and building was stunning. The drinks are quite pricey however, paying nearly £20 for a bottle of house white but you go for the experience, not their wine list, and that's second to none.
J. K.
Me and my family were here a couple of weeks ago watching beauty and the beast, the cast are always amazing, my nieces and nephews absolutely love it and we have never laughed so much in one night. Amazing place and amazing cast member ❤️ thank you for making our night as fantastic and making us laugh so much
P. S.
Other opinions may differ, but I've always considered Grey's Monument to be the unofficial center of Newcastle. You can comfortably walk to pretty much everywhere in Newcastle from this spot. The Theatre Royal Newcastle is situated a few meters down the architecturally beautiful (and award winning) Grey Street. The Theatre Royal being the obvious standout with its huge column's. Whenever I have visited the Theatre, the staff and amenities have always been faultless. The seats are comfortable, the view for the most part has been excellent. Though I did have a restricted view during one play (couldn't see the left side of the stage). Though not overly expensive inside the Theatre, some people, including myself, usually meet for a few drinks at The Lady Grey which is a pub on South side of the Theatre as they have a nice selection of ales and the atmosphere is relaxed.
J.
Friendly staff and always a great experience. Looking forward to seeing many more shows here
n. e.
Totally enjoyable experience. Theatre was full of young people who joined in making it a wonderful afternoon. Definitely go again. Seating to close together especially for the elderly.
J. A.
Fabulous theatre lovely staff
L. W.
Went to see "Here come the boy's " and it wss fantastic. The show was fabulous. The staff were very helpful, professional and friendly. It's been a lovely day, the atmosphere was great, will definitely not hesitate to book another show here again
D.
Beautiful theatre. Well worth the ticket price to see musicals and shows. BUT why let people eat and drink in the theatre during the performance? Les Mis was brilliant except for the two women sat next to us who constantly talked and rustled their pack of sweets during the performance. Come on be fair!! We want to be lost in the performance not getting high blood pressure from inconsiderate folk!!
S. &. M.
Beautiful building. Lovely staff. Seats hurt your bottom a bit but they provide cushions if you're lucky enough to get one, could take your own though. Lovely member of staff called Stacey was so welcoming and genuine on our visit. Some world class shows on here, definitely recommend a visit.
K. D.
My good lady and I took our grandson to see La Boheme by Opera North and the performance was absolutely wonderful, especially Mimi played by Katie Bird. The negative side of our experience was the fact that people are allowed to take drinks into the auditorium and the couple next to us brought a LOT of drinks back after the interval. I know it costs a lot of money to run this theatre and the drinks all add to the revenue, but some thought must be put into how to avoid a situation where some members of the audience end up quite inebriated and spoil the experience for others.
R. W.
Excellent theatre production and had a very clear view from the Upper Circle. Unfortunately, the leg room was really small. My poor partner is over 6ft tall and was crammed into the chair. He was very uncomfortable throughout the whole production.
S. P.
Beautiful theatre which has fantastic shows. Just been to see Peter Pan which was excellent.
b. m.
Beautiful building in a beautiful city. Access is easy although parking can be dreadful. The shows are good and pantomime is excellent. Bar is stocked adequately and manned sufficiently during intervals etc. The prices can be high as expected but worth it. Having used the venue a multitude of times over the year I can say we will be back soon. Beware that the street parking areas can be unclear and the cities taxis chronic driving makes access unbearable at times. It won't spoil your night however.
G. S.
Went to see "an inspector calls". As usual the production was top class. An interesting morality story that was very well presented. I dont go to the theatre royal very often but it's always a great experience. Perhaps the bar is little expensive?
C. B. (. m.
The Theatre has a great vibe to this lovely piece of history and its a listed building. It has beautiful, luxurious fixtures and fitting which finish off the fine character of the place. Only the best performances come on tour here and you can be sure of a warm welcome from the staff.
K. W.
Peter Pan pantomime was hilarious! Highly recommend for all ages, the theatre itself is beautiful.
B. M.
The Theatre Royal in Newcastle is a magnificent building of it's age and anyone who has ever seen its interiors would know how stunningly beautiful they are. My partner and i recently saw a play there and even though we were up in the amphitheatre we could here the dialogue clearly though patrons with sight issues may have problems distinguishing actors faces. The seats we sat in were comfortable to start with but after about an hour there was a lot of fidgeting, i guess that comes with the territory.
G. H.
It's a great theatre. I've seen a variety of shows here and never been disappointed. The staff are so friendly and helpful. A wide variety of drinks available. Whatever show takes your fancy you will find it here.
A. S.
Too hot in theatre, making it even more difficult and uncomfortable when wearing a mask. The show was brilliant 👏
B. S.
Lovely theatre, some great shows. A fab night out.
L. P.
Definitely worth a visit, fantastic building and lovely helpful staff
J. R.
Beautiful theatre, helpful and friendly staff, reasonably priced tickets.
g. m.
The was brilliant the staff was fantastic we've booked again for next year
C. S.
Not only was the show fantastic but the theatre is such a great place to go. It always feels special and it's a fabulous building. Staff there were so helpful.
I. L.
Last night I was privileged to see the most amazing show I have ever seen in the theatre. Les miserables was performed by the most talented cast I have seen in years! The production was flawless.
D. L.
Disappointed at the panto beauty and the beast this year. Was more the Danny Adams show than a panto and I really missed not having the spectacular stunt riders or acrobats of previous years. Although ticket prices did not reflect the obvious savings they must have made by not having to pay for those guest acts ....

Another great night at the Theatre Royal went to see The Play That Goes Wrong it was hilarious. Well worth a visit

Great venue, friendly staff and brilliant production. The accessible toilet was too small to be wheelchair accessible but a member of staff said they would relay this information to a superior. I hope the facilities are improved and doors are widened because that is the only downside to a wonderful theatre.

Lovely theatre, but the staff weren't very friendly
J. P.
Great atmosphere, and they handled covid well...

Show was brilliant! So funny the father his sons team :)
(The only bad part was how hot it was! Air con or something should of been on. And we did ask in the end and nothing happened)

Visited the theatre to view my first opera, which was tosca.
The oprea was performed with passion and heart by the cast.
The production was very good and orchestra played fantastic.
Everyone did an amazing job, very enjoyable, entertaining to watch.
Inside the theatre staff were professional, welcoming and helpful.
Helping to make the evening such an enjoyable one.
The theatre it's self a beautifully crafted traditional building inside and, such lovely setting to watch an opera.
Only down side was the seats, which are in keeping with the period and style of the building.
But sadly a little bit uncomfortable if your sat for too long, but lucky the performance was split into acts.
So a stretch of the legs followed by a drink in the lovely bar, before heading back to eat h the rest of the performance.
I shall be returning again to watch another performance in the not too distant future

The theatre is beautiful. So much care is taken of it, its granduer dedinitely takes you back in time.
Unfortunately there were sound issues during our show, but that didnt really spoil the evening.. what did spoil the evening however, was as we were leaving the show and a member of staff physically stepped out in front of me with a charity bucket and shook it at me.
The drinks and tickets are overpriced anyway, so knowing this..it was always going to be plastic in use. She made me feel very embarrassed for not having cash, as well as knocking me off balance. I appreciate anyone who raises money for charity, and will give whenever possible, but it really did spoil our evening, and we will not be returning.

Visited here to watch the Bodyguard show....all I can say is absolutely amazing!! Cast couldn't be faulted, stage scenery unbelievable, atmosphere a great experience IS A MUST TO BE SEEN!! FABULOUS NIGHT!!

Absolutely fantastic show once again! Theatre Royal's panto is consistently the best. Comfy seats, friendly staff and not long to wait for the toilet all add to a great time.

Les Mis is one of my favourite movies. The show was pitch perfect in a beautiful setting. The theatre is a means to an end, albeit with food, wine and a welcoming atmosphere. Choose your shows, enjoy the journey. Variety is the spice of life 🙂

I just love this theatre! Went to see Henning Wehn...very funny man! The theatre is beautiful, comfy seats, good view of the stage from Row N stalls and good ticket price too. Bit nippy for some reason, defo wear a jumper or take a wrap/cardy :) Bars on 2 floors, good service and you can order interval drinks. Sweets and ice cream also sold. Lovely stewards and staff, most enjoyable evening!
K. K.
Great seat layout for viewing stage. Comfortable with easy access and exit. Friendly helpful staff. Bar would benefit from more credit card terminals to speed up service. Decor of interior matches era of the building to a very good standard.
J. L.
A great show with friendly staff. The bar queues can get long close to the start of a site, but that is only to be expected. Discounts on pre-ordered interval drinks at our last show here.

Very covid safe, great performance by Stephen Tompkinson, Educating Rita, loved it. Will be back next month
v. w.
Love this theatre. As an access customer they have been so accommodating. We sit in stalls, there's decent leg room. Clean, tidy, friendly staff

It's a great venue in the heart of Newcastle. So not rating based on shows but on Venue. The only reason I don't rate 5 is due to the relative high prices still attached to restricted visibility seats of which there are many especially at the back of the stalls. Row P and beyond. Saw Saturday night fever in row R and still had to crane tour neck a bit at times to see.
C. B.
Lovely theatre. Not too big so it feels a bit more intimate.
T. B.
Great evening, wonderfully organised. Lots of fun. I absolutely recommend.

Well went to see The Railway Children and what do you know there was a delay due to some technical difficulties. Just like our very one beloved railways. I have visited the Theatre Royal on many occasions and this one proved to be as good as all the others. The staff dealt with disabled people in wheelchairs,a huge parties of schoolkids and many others with their customary politeness and skill. To anyone visiting Newcastle and wanting to take in a show you will be well looked after

Amazing place great atmosphere
K. G.
"Handbagged" was fabulous!! If only it could have a wider audience, the world would be a much better place. The cast were amazing and every single player a gem! The script was so witty and clever, and the casting marvellous. I could really believe I was in the presence of Her Majesty and Mrs T. Thank you to all concerned for such a wonderful production.

Last minute decision to see a matinée performance on the same day as a train strike not regretted. Box office staff recommended arriving or calling at midday to get reduced ticket. Friendly and helpful about finding me an accessible seat, although, be warned the toilets are not open until just before the performance and the auditorium seats have been chosen to match the period decor rather than for great comfort.

Great night. Blown away with the show will go again
A. P.
Great show, marvelous theatre.
D. H.
Beautiful venue could ask for better
G. P.
A brilliant show (We Will Rock You) in an iconic venue. My daughter and I had great seats on row D which gave us an excellent view of the stage.
M.
Took my daughter to see The Wizard of Oz and she fell in love with the whole experience. She's 5 year old and was impressed firstly with the building and decor then blown away by the production. It's a beautiful venue and we can't wait to go again
P. B.
Pantomime amazing so very funny well worth seeing
A. B.
Show was amazing. The only bad is the seats is very uncomfortable and if you have long legs the frontseat press your knees. Beautiful theatre. Staff friendly and helpful.
P. W.
Still a lovely theatre. Went to see Drifters girl and had a great night.
S. D.
Always a great experience ! Love it!
C. J.
Went to see Mama Mia last night, great show, up dancing & singing at the end. However I was rather confused as to why the character Bill was introduced as Bill Austin and not Bill Anderson as was his name in the film. Was this a mistake or have they changed his name for some reason.

Lovely building in the centre of Newcastle. Easy to get to as long as you don't expect to park right outside. Several multi storey car parks are nearby as are a number of bus stops and a Metro station. Only complaint was the temperature, we were in the upper circle and it was roasting. There was some air-conditioning but it was ineffective. Apart from that an enjoyable night.
C. R.
I adore the Theatre Royal and try to go at least once every two months. They have a wide variety of productions including musicals, plays, ballet and opera. The staff are always lovely and the performances always sound fantastic.
J. N.
Took a party of school children from a special needs school to a performance of Peter Pan. The staff were extremely helpful, and made the visit a real pleasure. Will definitely visit again. Congratulations to the Theatre Royal, a job done extremely well! You should be proud!

I come every year for the panto (the last 15 years) it is gorgeous but you have to park in a car park somewhere nearby. There are loads of great restaurants nearby, and it's not far from fenicks window- A must see at Christmas.
L. L.
Very friendly staff directing and helping people to the seats. Beautiful theatre and thrilling atmosphere. A wonderful experience seeing Matthew Bourne's Romeo and Juliet.
A. M.
The architecture here is stunning, and I love the layout. It's ideally situated in the town centre, so it's just a hop on and off a Metro or bus. Great range of shows. Always love visiting this venue.

Went to see Le Miserable at the Theatre royal Newcastle. Venue is great if a little pricey, could do with more loos. However, le missed was astounding and thought it was better than the movie version. Great night out.
T. L.
had an incredible afternoon watching less mis earlier. the music and cast together created a great atmosphere. would recommend to many people to go and see it whilst you can
S. W.
We saw the Bodyguard starring the amazing Alexandra Burke. Inevitably comparisons will be made with Whitney Houston's portrayal of the role but Alexandra's performance could not be faulted. A great production from start to finish with a brilliant supporting cast. Fully recommend catching the show as it tours around the uk
H. B.
Great night ,great show Les Miserables, amazing singers . Only thing that spoilt it a bit was being charged six pound odd for two bottles of fanta orange . Bit of a rip off , same with the bottled water 1.50 warm not refrigerated or cold from the bar apparently 60p more .
I. M.
Excellent venue, brilliant panto for 2021
A. T.
Seen snow White, absolutely great even for the adults. Great time and service
n. b.
First time to see blood brothers. Loved the show. Staff helpful and friendly
P. G.
Great old theatre, staff really helpful and friendly. I saw a story about a Frenchman who was wrongly convicted of a crime and really turned his life around using the power of song. Excellent.

Best pantomime ive seen, hilarious, great cast, costumes, and set.
j. b.
Have seen some excellent plays here No man's land, To kill a mockingbird, 12 angry men , Driving miss daisy to name few. Also ballets with friends (and even with hubby although he did say once was enough!) It has great character and looks amazing inside and out. It's taken lots of my money over the years but worth it😃 update Jan 19 go and see Comedy about a bank robbery- hilarious! Now looking forward to 2 ballets - Cinderella next week and Swan Lake in May #excited
F. M.
Fabulous shows but not very good for visually impaired as no contrast with the carpets on the stairs (carpet all the same colour) unable to tell where the stairs start and finish. No dedicated seats for partially sighted.
S. M.
Just been to see beauty and the beast was amazing as always only 4 stars just seat where we sat we cudnt see the back of stage so missed a little bit of show but still was fab keep up good work xx
j. o.
put on some great stuff. I miss the RSC and hope they come back soon. the chairs are very uncomfortable, I think because they had a Victorian refurbishment and that's what Victorians liked - shame though. Book well in advance as its shoes van be very popular.
C. H.
Love going to the panto always have a fantastic time
T. J.
The theatre it's self is great. Meet some lovely staff Sasha was very helpful. But on leaving the building I had to go down Shakespeare street and I was very dissapointed in the amount of rubbish that has accumulated in the street from the theatre. This has spoil day
H. P.
Saw Les Mis in the upper circle in row c and it was still an amazing view!
K. T.
Great theatre just been to see we will rock you fantastic, seen a few shows now looking forward to the next one. Staff are very good.
T. B.
Awful booking system. Shows online as fully booked, to phone costs 40 per minute, visit the box office and you get booked. Sound quality at beginning of Jersey Boys really poor, but improved. Brilliant show.
