Reviews of National Trust - Mottistone Gardens
D. B.
A really nice garden, not huge but big enough. Decent cafe with the essentials (ice cream!). A great touch is the children's activities they've got - not lots of stuff but a few games (horseshoe throwing, space-hopper horses, and hobby horses) that can keep the children happy. The space-hopper horses were especially good for my children.
S. S.
Beautiful National Trust house and gardens. We spent a few hours walking and admiring the views. Staff were amazing, definitely worth a visit. Also a Relaxing environment
P. D. (.
Very nice gardens and very dog friendly. The only blot on the landscape is the really terrible drive up to the carpark! Like a tank testing ground!
Tea room was excellent. As you would expect from the NT. All the staff and volunteers were friendly and welcoming.
A. A.
A lovely quaint garden and wooded area. The house is not open but there is a sheltered tea garden and toilet facilities. Other attraction is the Lonestone which is a climb up through the woods to a scenic ridge.
J. P.
Fabulously stocked and maintained gardens in the west if the island. It took hours to wander round, including a stop at their excellent cafe. Really worth a visit
S. K. X.
Very beautiful, quiet and lovely garden to visit with family. Under the National Trust, well maintained, has on the site parking 👍👌
S. W.
Beautiful location, great for a relaxing walk or just to sit in the vibrant colourful gardens and watch the world go by, or sit with tea and cake in the tea gardens or even a light lunch, good selection of Dairy free products too.
S. C.
Thoroughly enjoyable time exploring the grounds, also the walk to the Long Stone and a trip around the church. Posted on an Isle of Wight group page and been admired by many who now want to visit. Some reasonably steep uphill walking but many areas are travelled paths so can be accessed by wheelchairs. Alternative routes have steps, so there's always a choice.
J. C. L.
surrounded by mature trees, this beautiful area of the island is home to a 'National Trust' place nestled in Mottistone Down with lovely well kept drought tolerant plants in different garden zones inc. vegetable garden, rose gardens, formal garden, mediterranean area etc. some of the grounds are given over to wild meadow flowers too.
there is a nice shady seating area for those who partake in the available tea, coffee, cake, ice cream etc.
also, plenty of benches are dotted around to rest & admire the views.
accessibility is a challenge, but there is a 'step free' route around the grounds (but beware of the gravel paths).
free entrance to 'NT' members, £7.00 PP otherwise (parking is free though).
all in all well worth a leisurely visit.
(4* because of the difficulty in accessing all parts of the gardens).
P. C.
Lovely gardens, especially in the spring with so much blossom out. Hopefully now the Manor house is no longer occupied access to the house will happen soon.
L. H.
We're frequent visitors to these lovely gardens in the grounds of Mottistone Manor. We love to see the changes of the seasons and planting, especially in the Lower Garden.
L. H.
Absolutely fantastic to see such an immaculate, well presented garden so full of colour and interest. A real credit to those who work on it.
The number of large and healthy plants on display is wonderful. Different areas displaying plants from drier parts of the world, colourful long borders, fruit trees and a lovely vegetable garden complete with scarecrows!
Also a woodland walk, huge bug hotel in the form of a pig's face, and wildflower area that although not currently flowering, it would be fantastic in June.
This is the National Trust at its best.
N. c.
Great place to visit the gardens - my photos are of the view from near the king stone which is behind Mottistone Gardens.
Very nice tea garden as well
M. M.
Very nice and cosy garden. It’s perfect if you want to relax or have a little picnic. There are so many spaces and shadow corner when it’s too hot. Also they have a lot of flowers which is very nice. I was just expecting to visit the inside of the little house but apparently you can only visit the gardens.
J. J.
Nice southerly facing gardens which borders woodland. We'll worth a visit, amazing gardens and nice cake as well. Heartedly recomend a visit. Nothing against it.
W. D.
We like the place and the wood and lovely
Tea garden. The food is lovely. And the garden have a lot of lovely flowers
C. W.
Lovely relatively small garden broken down into garden rooms. Nice outdoor tea garden. Friendly gardeners are at hand to help explain things. Beautiful wild flower garden meadow. Road to car park is very uneven.
b.
What a lovely set of gardens to amble through, sit a while, and enjoy.
Lots of friendly staff, nothing is too much trouble, the tea room is great with lovely coffee and cakes.
The gardens are picture postcard, well groomed delights to walk through.
The backdrop of the ocean is a delight, what a place to live this must have been
P. Y.
Beautifully maintained gardens and a lovely spot to while away a summers afternoon.
D. S.
Absolutely beautiful gardens with a large area of grass and trees for picnics or simply relaxing. A truly stunning and very photogenic manor house, which is NOT open to visitors at present, but NT are hoping to start work soon to enable it.
Small tea and cake hut with outdoor seating and tables. Very clean visitor toilets, available at back of reception building.
D. S.
You don't have to be wild about gardens to be blown away with the love and hard that has gone into the sheer beauty in the plant varieties and colours on show. In post lockdown days the staff were also helpful and informative and the wildlife turned up too!
A. A.
The gardens are stunning with many Mediterranean plants. There are well placed seats and deckchairs to rest. We had drinks and cookies in the tearoom and the staff were very friendly and efficient. A beautiful place to visit
D. E.
Lovely gardens. Family story is we stayed here for a short time in WW2. Famous as the owners horse was the WW1 inspiration for 'Warhorse'
N. B.
Historic house , lovely gardens and relaxing , good tea in the cafe
K. S.
Beautiful garden. Have a picnic and relax. There is also a mini activity, wild beast hunt; perfect way to explore the area.
H. D.
Lovely gardens, plenty of colour, and tea room and garden to relax in.
M. T.
Lovely gardens to visit. Tearoom well run. The chocolate brownie was lush.
P. W.
Beautiful gardens, really helpful Nat. Trust volunteer at the entrance gate. Sadly quite wet for our visit, but plenty of benches etc in dryer weather. Definitely worth a visit ... as is the little church opposite.
A. B.
Lovely gardens to go and walk around. They have a nice place for tea and cake also!
M. W.
Lovely peaceful garden to walk round, with a little cafe. The house will be open soon so worth coming back in a couple of years to see the inside.
L.
What a lovely garden. In spite of a drought, there were plenty of lovely plants in the garden, obviously designed to cope with dry conditions.
The tea garden is very nice. Good sandwiches, teas and cakes.
In the house is a bookshop. It was nice to go in out of the sun and into the lovely cool house.
There's a humungous mulberry tree in the garden. Possibly the biggest I've ever seen, and full of [inaccessible] fruit.
J. F.
Very relaxing gardens. Dinner lovely benches with the most wonderful views. Great cafe and loads of parking.
J. S.
The formal gardens are beautifully looked after and I was pleasantly surprised that so much was still in flower in mid October... beautiful dahlias and tall dark blue salvias amongst others. I'm glad I have life membership as I think the entrance price is quite expensive. If I'd had to pay, I think I might have been a bit disappointed as to what there is to see overall. Great shame that the property is not open.
J. J.
Loved our visit, the gardens are relaxing with plenty of seating just to take time to enjoy. The tea room was fab, lovely tea cakes. All staff, throughout our visit were friendly and welcoming, thank you.
D. L.
Beautiful gardens. Friendly welcome. There is a great walk from the car park up to some ancient stones with amazing views. Well worth a visit.
D. W.
Beautifully kept grounds, well distanced seating area, with coffee and tea, cold drinks and a good range of food, with a couple of Vegan options. We enjoyed our visit.
D. E.
Lovely, beautiful and peaceful place to visit.
W. O.
Absolutely loved this place. The gardens are so beautiful. Would highly recommend a visit.
C. G.
Very hilly but if you're mobile enough to get up to the higher levels the views are lovely. Great garden for teas where there is plenty of shade if needed. Worth a visit
C. A.
Gardens had lots of blooms for the 1st week of October. Lots of drought resistant plants to suit conditions. Had a nice walk up the hills at the back and saw 6000 year old long stone.Lots of nice views of the coastline.
c. w.
Lovely gardens still full of colour at the end of September.
A small cafe selling drinks and delicious cakes with plenty of seating, some of it under cover.
R. S.
Really nice. Lovely tea shop. Beautiful gardens. Only docking a star as they decided to strim the garden whilst people were there. Not exactly conducive to a relaxing time
D. L.
Beautiful gardens even in September when many flowers and plants have seen their best for this year. You can see all the gardens easily in one hour, you need longer if you want to wander up into the hills and fields nearby. There is a small tea shop. The manor house is closed, probably permanently. It's a walk of maybe 5 minutes from the car park. If driving from Ventnir or Shanklin, pass the property and the car park is 150 yards farther, on the right.
R. G.
Lovely garden. Cafe is great. If you love a garden you will love it! If you have children go on a Tuesday, they put on special activities.
M. P.
Hadnt planned to spend so much time there but theres much to see and lots of ground to cover. V.nice tea shop toboot......awesome 18th Century buildings as well.
T. D.
I throughly enjoyed my visit to Mottistone Gardens on the Isle of Wight. I highly recommend that both members & non members visit Mottistone Gardens. The Gardens are fantastic and the house (what little is available to view) supplies a lot of information about the Gardens.
And for the younger family members there is the NT children workshop book all about
N. H.
What a stunning house and one of the most beautiful gardens that I have seen for years. And the egg and cress sandwiches with a hot cup of earl grey tea absolutely fantastic. a must see 😍😍😍😍
p.
Amazing site! It’s just so beautiful and the gardens are immaculately maintained. The views from
the top of the gardens are wonderful, giving you a view out to sea. Lots for the kids to do including den building and a flower pot trail for younger children to enjoy. Lovely cafe, large car park (free for NT members) and walks are relatively easy for most. Recommended if you are visiting the IOW.
P. S.
Easy to book up online for an afternoon stroll in a sheltered rural location with Sea views. Lovely display of daffodils and Camellias at present. Looking forward to the new lower garden design during the summer 😃
J. C. #.
A gorgeous area to relax and unwind .
So many lovely trails to go off and walk.
When all this lock down is over, make sure you Pop down the road for a drink and meal at the Sun Inn , Hulverstone.
Take Care Everyone, Stay Safe.
L. C.
Lovely place to wander around, lots of space. Enjoyed all the different areas. The hillside covered in daffodils was spectacular.
A. S.
Lovely gardens, well maintained and nice to walk around. Great in nice weather and a good way to spend a couple of hours.
L. H.
A lovely gem of a place. The gardens are beautiful, fantastically presented and well layed out. A must visit for nature lovers!
H. D.
Awesome garden and flowers. The gardens also have a Tea garden and plant sales. Hidden in the garden are the flowerpot people and there is also a free children's activity trail sheet.
G. G.
Absolutly beautiful gardens with a cute gift shop and lovely outside cafe area. Highly recommend. Great place to get some beautiful instagram moments.
R. A.
Lovely small but perfectly formed gardens made even more special by the addition of the new wildflower mallow area. A mass of wonderful pink.
P. C.
Beautiful spot, particularly in the sunshine. Lovely manor, a well arranged set of garden areas, benches with views, space and views to the sea! A really beautiful gem tucked away in a fold in the downs...
d. c.
What a great place - house there since early 11th century - lovely grounds - well laid out - seats to stop and admire the view - very friendly people - well worth the drive !
R. W.
Small but lovely gardens containing some beautiful and unusual plants. One of the highlights was being showered with seeds by a large exploding bush! It won't take you more than an hour to go around, but take a picnic and sit and soak up the atmosphere. I also acquired a new green friend - the biggest grasshopper thing I've ever seen!
B. G.
Beautiful walk around the national park. Lots of trails, anything from big to small walks. Can wait to explore when its less muddy 😀
S. L.
Lovely gardens with a coffee shack, outside seating only, so very pleasant on a nice day. No access to the house though.
S. W.
Very nice garden all be it in October. Good coffee here for a NT cafe.
L.
One of my favourite places on the Island to visit and we come almost every year.
The last time we payed a visit was at the end of May and a beautiful meadow was growing which stole my heart. This year was an Easter visit so we got to enjoy the lovely spring flowers and trees beginning to bud, blossom and some in full leaf.
Thanks to all for maintaining this site in such a spectacular way. Oh, and the views.... ❤️
L. G.
One of the nicest National Trust Gardens I've visited....
S. P.
Beautiful gardens definitely worth a visit
S. R.
Spent a lovely couple of hours walking around the gardens, & had a very nice cream tea.
J. B.
My wife and I have been visiting the UK on a regular basis for over four decades. During those visits, we have seen many exquisite gardens and estates, but Mottistone Gardens and Estate has gardens that are second to none of them. An added bonus, our visit to this National Trust Property were the walking paths on the Estate, which joined the Coastal Path and Tennyson Trail outside the Property. During our five-day stay on the Isle of Wight, we visited Mottistone Gardens and Estate twice. Finally, we would be remiss if we did not express our appreciation to the National Trust staff on the Property, who were professional, friendly, and helpful during our visit, which, of course, is a trademark of National Trust Properties in general.
R. P.
Very interesting property with stunning gardens. Well worth the visit.
M. W.
Beautiful gardens to visit. We could not resist treating ourselves to some of the bee attracting plants for home. Loved the hut!
C. W.
Really enjoyed it here , been going to the Isle of Wight for years and hadn't managed to get to see Mottistone Gardens till this time. It definitely didn't disappoint absolutely fabulous would recommend it to anyone who appreciates all the hard work of the gardening team who work there . Wish there'd been more plants to buy I would have loved to have the alstromeria ' Indian summer ' for my garden. The bookshop was wonderful too giving the opportunity to go inside this lovely building. Such a shame that Health and Safety have took over from Common Sense thus preventing walking round the rest of this Stunning Place. Well done to the staff here for a really lovely day. 😊
J. m.
Lovely gardens. Really well kept and interesting. Will be going again for sure!
G. J.
Beautiful gardens and grounds if you like plants worth a visit . There is ample parking
K. j.
Love this place so much. Great inspiration for your own garden.
J. M.
Great gardens. Loved our few hours there.
M. O.
Lovely gardens surrounding an extremely beautiful some house. The tea room set in a quiet corner has wonderful cakes. A must on your visit.
T. H.
A beautiful gardens. Loved the shack. Great tea garden too
A. H.
This National Trust house, only opens to the public two days a year. But the gardens our open all year round. The gardens here are beautiful, and well worth a visit.
S. P.
Good walks up on the downs. Super views.
The gardens are lovely and there's a nice tea garden.
M. D.
Beautiful place, tropical type gardens and a cafe. A pity the house is only normally open 2 days a year!
j. w.
Quaint place. Gardens aren't huge but still very nice.
A. F.
Small, but with the house mostly not accessible and the gardens inevitably suffering from the drought, thus was probably not the best year to go. In a normal year, I'm sure lovely for a relaxing morning.
P. M.
Really lovely gardens. We had a good time exploring and chasing the kids around the hedges. We climbed the hill to the Long Stone and Castle Hill which would have had great views but it was very drizzly sadly. Still, we spent 2 hours at Motistone and could have stayed longer. Would definitely go back.
H. L.
We pre booked . The garden and the surrounding area is wonderful to relax and just walk. Picnic area is very big and even some seats under a cover .
A. C.
Small gardens which are very good although they have suffered during the recent heatwave. Plenty of meadow walks and the usual nice cafe for this NT feature.
S. B.
Wonderfully peaceful, what a difference a week and some rain has made to the borders, just beautiful 😍
D. Y.
Lovely gardens, fab staff who are keen to see you enjoy your visit.
L. M.
Good COVID precautions in place. Their outdoor cafe is now open. A nice place to spend an hour as the grounds are not very big but lots of pretty flowers to see. You are also allowed to take picnics here with you. The house is lived in so is only open to the public 2 days a year.
D. “. N.
A very pleasant, colourful garden with friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. I also spotted a Hummingbird Hawk Moth buzzing around the flowers too.
M. B.
Beautifully maintained garden ,set against back drop of ancient manor house with distant sea views.Staff so friendly and obliging
S. a. C. S.
Beautifully kept gardens ideal for picnic and stroll very relaxing
P. U.
It's like you go back in the old times because it's still the same same structures and landscape. Magical place to visit. Ample parking and it's free.
R. T.
Beautifully maintained gardens and surprising good for young kids - visited with a 2, 4 and 6 year old and they loved exploring all the different parts of the garden but it is on a manageable scale so little legs didn't get too tired before stopping off for the obligatory tea and cake!
C. V.
Absolutely amazing grounds. Staff were lovely and very informative, especially Eliane. Thanks for a lovely day, the weather did help, glorious day.
Only down thing was the Drinks prices a little steep compared with the food.
D. D.
Really beautiful old house and gardens. A small caffe and many flowers. It's sad the beautiful house is closed but the rest is really worth the visit. Don't miss it if you are visiting Wight.
A. M.
Lovely gardens, even in October. Lucky with the weather, but beautiful place to walk and relax
D. S.
Beautiful, well kept gardens, with plenty of room to relax and sit in the sunshine. The cafe also serves delicious food, lovely coffee, and is reasonably priced.
I did think the entry price was a tad steep, but if you enjoy nice gardens there is certainly enough to spend a day there.
G. S.
A gem of a garden - not to be missed! Historic walks surround the house and garden. There is also a tea area.
T. W.
Great place to visit and staff/volunteers were very helpful and friendly. Would recommend a visit.
A. J.
Beautiful and tranquil. Was unable to visit in 2020 so it was a lovely surprise to see the newly designed parts of the garden. Lovely little cafe. Great for very young children with the 'flower pot trail' and garden lovers. Have been visiting for at least ten years. A walk up to the Long stone is worthwhile. Great views.
j. w.
Lovely gardens, and wildflower meadow for butterfly spotting.
Unfortunately, the house isn't open at the moment, but it's still definitely worth a visit on a nice day.
L. W.
What a lovely visit to the gardens.
The flowers and planting are beautiful within the different areas of the gardens.
Although it was very hot there was plenty of shade and a cool breeze, whilst sitting in a wonderfully positioned deckchair. Bliss!
S. R.
Small gardens which are beautiful to walk around for an hour or two followed by coffee in the gardens.
O. W.
Very pretty garden. If gardening is your thing it's a lovely diorama
R. A.
As always, beautiful and peaceful with a really lovely cafe. Wonderful staff too.
S. P.
Worth a visit for the beautiful and varied gardens...from sub-tropical to traditional English. The tea rooms are doing some tasty tea and snacks too.

M. M.
Great gardens...plenty of room for the kids to run around... smashing coffee and walnut cake
T. M.
Would of given 5 stars there was nowhere here to buy a refreshments especially as it was 1 of the hottest days this year
n. e.
Love visiting here when on the IOW.
Great place for all ages!
B. W.
The climb up to Long Stone is a good cardio workout, hard work but VERY worth it.
H. B.
Lovely gardens and lots if interesting facts.
A. A.
Peaceful. Good organisation re social distancing and maintaining hand hygiene. A sanctuary.
J. K.
Regular visitor. Lovely well kept gardens & tea shed. Always feel welcome. Head Gardener is very knowledgeable & all in all a wonderful peaceful place to visit
B. M.
One of my favourite places on the island. The gardens are beautiful. The tea bar not over priced. We are not members of the National Trust but only £5 each to get in. The only reason I have not given it 5 stars disappointed that they didn't have a plant sale, as I brought plants on my last visit.
S. C.
Simply beautiful, fantastic views, a feast of colour!
L. E.
Another heavenly place on the IOW, the garden is so beautiful, peaceful and calming. You can walk to the back of the site to a public footpath leading to an ancient standing stone. When you get there, go towards the cliff overlooking the ocean, it's spectacular, almost biblical looking, you feel really close to nature and the heavens. Breathtakingly beautiful, wow....
W. D. C.
Good place to unwind for a couple hours with a Granny and young kids. Spent two hours loitering the gardens, bookshop and tea room. The Manor House wasn't open to us, but the summer garden was in full bloom and stunning.
B. H.
Beautiful flower beds with colourful displays. Gives ideas for choices of plants for a perennial border
A. M.
Great place for a lovely afternoon or all day cafe good
e. w.
Wow! What an amazing find. Booked last minute through NT and is definitely worth a visit the gardens were beautiful. Looked at the reviews before booking and I'm so glad we went, plenty of places to sit and enjoy a cuppa and have time to relax. You could take a picnic and stay longer, but we found just over an hour ample.
S. L.
Beautiful wild flower meadow with colourful borders and country walks
R.
Lovely spring garden. Free parking and interesting Manor house (not open but you can go into the 2nd hand bookshop.

S. R.
Fantastic gardens..a hidden gem on the Isle of Wight..
C. F.
First visit to these gardens. Quite pretty, but a bit steep for a leisurely walk round. Good coffee and excellent sandwiches.
A. V.
Stunning gardens and delicious tea. Lots of bees!
J. M.
What a lovely garden to visit! So many areas to enjoy with plenty of seats to rest and enjoy the views. The gardens are beautifully kept with lots of interesting plants to see, smell and admire.Lots of paths and walks of varying lengths to choose but also some with moderate to steep slopes top watch out for. There is a welcoming outdoor cafe with plenty of seating and nicely spread out, plus a covered area if needed, that sell light refreshments.
Being National Trust there is always the shop to browse with a selection of very tempting gifts. There is an outdoor area with loads of plants on sale, many of which can be seen in the gardens. It has an excellent car park with plenty of space for picnics and play. Very relaxing and of course surrounded by beautiful views of coast and country.
A. T.
Visiting in September 2020, terrific effort in opening the gardens including the Tea garden.
Good service with a smile.
Lovely spot and the Longstone just above is a pleasant if mildly steep climb to see quite the panorama of the coast.
G. S.
Beautiful scenery in a beautiful setting.
This is a lovely village and this location tops it off nicely.
It's a lovely building with some fantastic shrubbery.
Beautiful flowers and some amazing vegetables.
The kids loved the den building and the little I-spy that they organised there.
Well worth a visit if in the area, or even if you're not!!
G. C.
Exotic plants in beautiful wooded valley
S. B. (.
Lovely. We did a really nice walk up to the longstones and around.
J. H.
Beautiful gardens. Interesting climate change planting section. Although not open at present the tea garden is terrific . Make sure you walk up to the long stone at top of garden as views across the bay are stunning
P. P.
Lovely very well kept gardens, best I've seen. Friendly staff, would highly recommend. There were also walks from the carpark to the sea and to downs. Well done!
J. S.
A mix of formal and wilder garden. Beautiful scented rose garden. Manor House is lived on so only open 2 days a year. Outdoor tea "room", helpful staff.

A. D.
Lovely gardens. Great array of flowers and butterflies everywhere. Staff are really helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.
A. J.
Lovely looking house, shame that it’s not open! Pleasant gardens. The map they hand out should show that you can get out at the top of the gardens and walk up to the Long Stone.
L. S.
lovely gardens and fantastic gardeners lunch in the tea rooms
D. L.
Needs work on the house, gardens beautiful.
J. B.
Really nice place with plenty of space for the kids to play
D. S.

J. P.
Lovely well kept gardens where you could wander and enjoy the surroundings. Plus longer walks around the area made it a great day out.
o.
Lovely gardens to stroll around and relax. Great little tea cabin for drinks.
J. B.
A lovely National Trust House and gardens including a tributary to the River Test. Good exhibitions set up regularly. Gardens have improved considerably over the last 2 or 3 years. As with all NT properties the food id good but limited in choice for main meals and is very expensive hence 4 stars rather than 5!
L. F.
Beautiful gardens and friendly staff. Exciting news that the house will open to the public in the future too (no date set yet)
M. B.
Lovely gardens and enjoyed a nice coffee in the garden tea room. Not a large site but we had a nice few hours there. Site is sloping and maybe difficult for some
S. W.
Such a great place to walk around. Lovely garden and tea shop.
We had a little walk around and saw some tiny Lizards in the gardens.
As it seems everywhere on the island, the staff were very helpful and friendly.
J. P.
Lovely gardens in secluded valley. Handy cafe kiosk on sheltered terrace. Can be reached by several lovely walking routes.
H. B.
The gardens are beautiful, full of glorious colour. There are options for almost everyone, depending on level of mobility. There are areas that are easily accessible to even those in wheelchairs or mobility scooters, but there are also places to explore for the more robust. There's enough to keep active children busy for days! I especially loved the forest exploration area where children can build a den, climb a tree and do much more. There are also multiple challenges for the children to find various things across the site. Finally, for those wanting a bit more challenge, there's a hike to the Longstone, a prehistoric stone monument.
The staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable on top of everything else. It is a wonderful day out in beautiful surroundings.
C. H.
A bit disappointing for the charge they want, if you'r a member then worth a short look around
S. G.
A really nice place to visit and spend a few hours
V. M.
First National Trust site we've visited with our membership. We visited on May 27th, one of the two days of 2019 that the house was open to the public. The house is great but the gardens are the real star of the show. Fairly expensive day out without membership. Ample on site parking. The Sun Inn is just down the road and is definitely worth a visit for food after.
A.
We love this place. Usually very tranquil, and even at busier times you can find a quiet spot in the orchard or woodland areas. We bring guests of all ages here. They could do with a vegan item at the café, not just for vegans but also for people with allergies to dairy, eggs, shellfish...
d. p.
Beautiful venue. The gardens a must visit. And a really nice tea room. Recommended
A. B.
Beautiful gardens in a lovely setting, will certainly be back for another visit with a proper camera !
Would be better if the paths to the Longstone were properly marked or signposted.
A. B.
Just a tremendous garden with some very thoughtful planting
B. J.
Mottistone Gardens is lovely, but just a reminder that it is closed in the winter. It re-opens on the 5th March 2022. The wider estate is open for winter walks throughout the year.
A. H.
Wonderfull afternoon with my WI having a private tour of gardens and manor and a good cream tea to finish off. Recommended but choose a sunny day.
T. H.
Beautiful gardens, great for hide and seek with the kids. Lots to learn and see. Great coffee is always a plus 👍
J. H.
Beautiful gardens, lovely setting, coastal views and picturesque walks. Excellent tea garden,. Set on sloping ground so may be challenging for anyone with mobility difficulties. Knowledgeable, friendly staff

Beautiful gardens with a sea view and charming tea garden.
B. S.
What a beautiful place. Picturesque garden beds. Lovely walk. Tea room fantastic end to our visit
H. D.
Beautiful doesn't do it justice. Peaceful location with fabulous views from the garden. Planting is breath taking with palms and cannas and bananas alongside such staples as geraniums and heuchara. Some good longer walks through woodland to explore and a lovely tea room. Staff very friendly and helpful and a good selection of well priced plants for sale.
S. C.
Love the longstone walk..a family favourite, especially this time of year with all the bluebells. The walk we do isnt long but full of character and always meet so many friendly folk on the way.
M. S. O.
It is a great place to visit lovely gardens, not suitable for people with severe physical limitations. As there is no wheel chair acess from the car park. I use two crutches and it was nice, plenty of places to stop and rest but gardens are on hill side. But worth doing if you can get round ok.
c. v.
Beautiful gardens to look round. And a great woodland walk as well. Once finished you can get a coffee and a cake at the cafe. Friendly staff

Small National Trust that comprises of gardens and wood walks. Food available from a cafe but tables for eating are mainly out in the open air. A really good selection of plants for sale.
P. W.
Beautiful gardens. If I were a local person, I should like to make monthly visits to see how they change as seasons and the year change.
P. B.
Small gardens but hidden areas reveal interesting landscapes and the house even though you cannot see inside is beautiful.
J.
Few great properties in the isle of wight under the national trust...
P. C.
Beautiful gardens, takeaway menu a little limited, but maybe the menu is smaller because of Covid restrictions.
Staff were lovely.

S. W. (.

Lovely gardens even at this time of year.
t.
Beautiful gardens of an old stately manor. Car park entrance is 200 yards from main entrance; may not be obvious. Sandwiches and cream teas delicious and service very friendly. Can get very busy.
V. W.
Beautiful gardens, helpful staff. Delicious food from the tea garden cafe. My only complaint is the lack of wheelchair access from the car park, and limited wheelchair access around the garden.
A. B.
Nice gardens and managed to go round inside the house which is only open once a year??? Gardens and external house are a lot more impressive than the house internals, so always worth a visit for the rest of the year.
n. j.
Great relaxing place to visit and enjoy the gardens. Option to walk up through the woods to see the long standing stone.
B. L.
Really beautiful gardens, quiet, not too big. Tons of history around (Church is 3500 years old). Tea garden best we have been in.

R. H.

D. B.
One of the National Trust true gardens the plants grown at Mottistone do not require watering apart from natural rain fall well worth talking to the gardener's if you are a keen gardener.
B. B.
Beautiful gardens, but not able to go inside the Manor due to current restrictions.
M. P.
A lovely garden..Pleasant walks. But cafe service was awful..in fact..so bad that after queuing for fifteen minutes..we gave up and left...such a wasted opportunity for the place.
People want food and drink
it was a very hot day...very poor not to be able to get served.
S. R.
Beautiful gardens in a lovely scenic setting.
C. W.
Just beautiful. The flower pot man hunt kept the kids amused.
C. R.
Great place to visit with the children and grandchildren and do the Flowerpot Men hunt. Build dens in the woods and picnic on the lawn by the maze. Strange though the café doesn't sell icecreams!
