Reviews of Cow Tower
P. Y.
A purpose-built artillery blockhouse. Build around late 1300s to command a strategic point in Norwich city defence against the French and indigenous English rebels. Part of a local heritage. It’s located along the river. Used to house guns and weapons to defend the city. Now it looks like a deserted tower with a gate to prevent entry into the tower but you can see from a certain angle the inside. A little eerie I think. Why is it called cow tower? Probably derived the name from the surrounding meadow Cowholme.

A medieval artillery blockhouse overlooking the River Wensum, situated along the riverside walk.
I've never known it open to the public, but there are plenty of benches to admire it from.
Cows were once grazed nearby. Hence, Cow Tower.

Nice historic feature along a beautiful Riverside walk just a short walk from the city centre. You can only look around the tower, no access inside. Worth a look along the walk.

Medieval brick tower that once formed part of the city defences by the River Wensum. There's an information board in front of the tower and also some nearby seating.
It's possible to peer inside at the now roofless structure, but visitors can't go inside. Can be accessed by walking along the river from Bishopgate.

Interesting historically and a pleasant walk that changes throughout the year.

Its always such a beautiful tranquil walk along the river to cow tower, you see so much wildlife&its the perfect place to sit & enjoy a coffee.

Cow Tower is part of the local history playing a big part in the defence of the city. Just a pity it is unsafe to go inside.

Worth a look, situated in a lovely area for a walk. Who doesn't feel better after a walk next to a river? Scenic.

The tower morroring itself in the Wensum is a very suggestive view

It's a big old tower in the middle of a well kept park along a particularly quiet part of the river. Has a few wild areas built in too so it has a surprising amount of wildlife for such a small space. It's a lovely place for all to visit!
