Reviews of Colliers Wood Nature Reserve
This is a lovely little reserve if you like to go for a gentle short stroll. Great for dog walking too you just need to make sure your doggie is under control at all times as there are lots of people and doggies about. The woodlandy area is all fenced off so you cannot walk there unfortunately. The whole park is fenced off so it's brilliant if you have wondering doggies. The car park is free which is an added bonus. Once you go out of the park if you take the long route have a look to your left and you'll see a footpath that leads to fields. This is brilliant if you want to extend your walk. We didn't see any livestock anywhere but please be vigilant on your trip as there might be some around at different times of the year. Luckily you can see all the fields. ☺️
1st time visit. (Discovered on way to Ikea!!)
Took the kids and dog. Car park is gravelled and clearly well maintained. There are signs at all entrance points showing the different walking routes available. Am unsure if accessible for wheelchair users due to the style of the gates at the exit points. (Kissing gates)
Paths are gravelled and well kept.
We did a mix of both routes to see everything in the reserve. There are lots of seats located throughout the reserve and lots of picnic benches available too.
We saw lots of wild birds, herons, ducks and swans etc.
Whilst there we saw little to no litter or dog waste. Bins are located throughout the routes.
The reserve itself is not that big but a nice place to walk the dog and enjoy the wildlife. We found bird feeders located on the walking routes and was able to watch birds feeding. Overall, very impressed. (Annoyed that we didnt find this sooner!!)
This will become a regular walk for us in the future. 🙃
Always lovely to come here to feed the ducks, although disappointing to see people using bread still. Please remember, bread can be detrimental to wild fowl as it fills their stomachs but has no nutritional value. Try to opt for wild bird seed or fat balls instead.
The park is a fair size and in places surrounded by woodland, which gives a wonderful feeling of being surrounded by nature. There are a lot of instances of dog poop being left behind so watch where you step. A great place to come for a walk while also observing social distancing, as there is ample space.
Lovely walk with my dog and camera
Our last walk for 2018. At the heart of the English coal mining area, a nice and easy circular track for a Winter walk, with couple of good spots, especially the nearby forest and the Moorgreen reservoir.
Loads of ducks for feeding on the lake plenty of room to throw the ball for the dog and enough shade to relax in on hot days parking is free which is a bonus aswell, recently they have had a few carvings done on tree stumps that are beautifully done
Really pretty Nature Reserve. Good paths, plenty of rubbish bins and seats & tables to use for eating. Nice to walk around with some good views, lots of wildlife on the lakes to be seen. It ideal for using as a place for short dog walks. Has a free car park for parking.
Great place for a walk, it had all ages and abilities of people walking around or just sat taking in the atmosphere from the place.
Great place for the whole family
Lovely walk with my elderly dog. Free parking also 😁
Great area for a chill, away in nature, pop along and have a great relax...
Colliers Wood sits on the site of a former Moorgreen Colliery. The great steel winding wheels are used to mark the sites entrance and there is a lonely coal- wagon that you can see on the park . A lot of variety of trees and great walks A nice place to come with the family. It has a sensitive location at the edge of established urban areas.
Lovely relaxing place to take a walk and enjoy nature.
Lovely place to take the kids and dogs for a short walk.
Nice little walk, small pond with a variety of birds. Small carpark with a couple of disabled spaces the walk is wheelchair accessible but the path is uneven inplaces.
I take my dog for a walk around the park at least once a week it is always nice and tidy it's a nice walk the only downside is if you go early Sunday afternoon there isn't many car parking spaces
Nice small country park to take your dogs out for a walk. There's a large pond for wildlife, mainly swans and ducks, lovely place😁
A lovely walk that changes through the seasons. I used to take my dog there daily, and after a break of a few years have begun to take my children weekly to see the wildlife and ride their bikes. Would recommend for those who want a short walk with nice pathways. Be aware although there are no on site facilities other than a car park there is a nearby garden centre with a cafe and toilets.
Lovely place for a little walk immersed in nature. It's especially great for dogs & slightly older kids who love getting closer to nature. The little pond is a great addition that is home to a beautiful flock of swans & ducks that come gracefully floating through the water the minute they see you in hope of getting some nibbles!
A bit of peace and quiet away from the bustling town centre of Eastwood. Lovely walk as it is fairly flat so great with pushchairs and wheelchairs. They hold buggy walks for new mums and babies. During the summer they have outdoor cinema and concert. They also hold 5k races and triathlon events. Good parking. Well maintained remember to pick up your litter and dog muck please.
Start and end point for a trail run. Nicely kept place.
Car park can be busy at times as this park is very popular with dog walkers and bird watchers. You can walk through and visit Rueben Shaw’s garden centre and cafe.
Good little place to spend half and hour or more. Free parking. Little pond with wildlife and a place to watch birds feed on feeders in the trees. Lots of people take dogs for a walk. Nice place for a picnic or stop off at the nearby garden centre for coffee and cake.
Lovely little place for a walk on a nice day :)
Lovely for a nice walk. Very peaceful and lovely little lake. Bigger than expected so great for dog walking. I went with my son and we enjoyed feeding the ducks, geese and swan.
Small car park. Nature reserve bigger than expected
Plenty of dog walkers who dont abide by the keeping your dogs on leads rule. Signage everywhere stating these rules but nobody can read. Other than that, it is a beautiful place for a short walk.
Fabulous plenty of benches to rest and enjoy the wildlife, well designed paths, bird spotting hide, a lovely pond with benches and observation platform, excellent parking and information boards. Sadly no toilets. I have yet to visit for the open air theatre as performances always seem to be planned for July when we are away as it's close to schoolhouses.
Small car park fit for purpose. Nice green space especially for dog owners. Good lake with ducks. Path all the way round but it does get wet and can be sludgy so be prepared. Does have an outdoor theatre and is used for special events. Christmas especially.
Lovely, easy walk. Plenty of space to let the dogs run, and benches along the way to stop.
Lovely place to walk your dogs or just take a leisurely walk. Nice area for children to play and a lively duck pond where they can feed the ducks, swans and other birds.
At end of walk. Lovely to see a mandarin duck!
Lovely place for a short walk with the kids or dog. Keep bread at hand for the swans and coots
Good walking. Very well maintained.
Enjoyable walk with the grandson we even stopped to feed the swans.
It's a nice place to have a relaxing walk. I often take the kids to feed the ducks, swans, geese, & the annoying sea gulls! We went last week and the geese got aggressive coming really close to try and get the feed out my hands. It scared my kids. But usually they stay well back. Maybe it's because there over hungry with it being winter.
Small car park but you can park on the road, lovely walk with lots of wildlife. You can also head of to Moorgreen reservoir from here, don’t forgot your duck food.
Nice, pleasant little park. Seems very popular with dog walking
Lovely open space, even when the car park is full it is not crowded inside the park, lots of benches for a picnic and a duck pond. Maps to show where to walk, plenty of bins.
Not sure about evening walking but nice during the day
Nice little park for a dog walk. More energetic younger dogs might need a couple of laps but for our 16yr old doggie it's perfect.
First time visit very impressed with cleanliness ideal for a stroll.
Beautiful place. Brilliant for families, picnics, feeding the Ducks and Swans.
Also brilliant for bike riding & for taking your dog out for a walk or run.
+Lovely open space for walking, especially with your dog. Children can feed the ducks.
-Very soggy everywhere after rain.
Too many inconsiderate owners who don't clean up after their animals.
Lovely little park, no parking charge, ducks to feed and a choice of three little paths of varying distances. I often come here with my two boys and they love it.
Great for dog walks and some outdoor exercise. Paths cross cross so a variety of routes. Small car park though with 2m restriction
Smallish park but beautiful. Check out the bird feeders and pond for birdwatching opportunities. There is a local run here every 2nd Saturday of the month at 9am which is excellent.
Former mining area known as Moorgreen Colliery, 3 walking trails passing large pond with ducks, geese, swans, and an Heron, shingle type pathways for getting around, passing headstocks and picnic tables, plenty of room to allow 2 Metre distance passing, and benches scattered around so you can rest and enjoy the area, could do with toilets if your looking to spend more than an hour.
Collier wood is a special place. Calm, serene and I visit in all weather's. it's very clean and free of rubbish. I put that down to a lack of burger vans and ice cream vans. So please keep them out. The swan pond is a delight, I wood recommend Colliers Wood to anyone wanting a leisurely stroll or to sit for a picnic.
Excellent for a quick stroll and well looked after. Carpark is free and is camera operated which is a bonus for a long walk knowing that your car is safe in a rural area
Very pleasant walk around what used to be the Old Colliery site.small lake with wildfowl and good quality pathways. Some items of historical interest and information boards about past heritage.
This is such beautiful countryside, with a lake with wild fowl, and my favourite, a heron. A quiet pleasant place for a stroll with the dog, or a jog with your partner, or an afternoon picnic with your family
A beautiful place to walk a dog , we'll prepared pathways with wheelchair access, we'll maintained grass areas. Free car park.

Colliers Wood is a beautiful place to go for a walk with your dog and family walks plus ideal for having a picnic there are picnic areas that have been purposeley built for this very nice place to visit
Nice walk.feed birds and fish. although some people who i can only imagine are illiterite as they cannot read no fishing signs.at this time of year the trees start to get decorated with baubles
Love going here for a few hrs with my little one, lots of space for her to run around, really peacefull place and a pretty walk. Also benches and a pond to feed the ducks and swans
Nice evening stroll location and good area for dogs to walk, nice and clean as well
Nice little park for a walk, not many 'proper' parking spaces next to the park but plenty on street parking. Nice pond too... Worth a visit
Nice place for a short walk. Safe for children on bikes. Ducks and swans to watch on the lake.
Open parkland, great place for a stroll or to walk the dog. Occassional open air evening shakespearian theatre. Next one early July. Worth a visit.
Lovely little park with duck pond, a few benches and some short circular walks.
Great for walking dogs and for family walks to feed the ducks. We enjoy going for a little stroll as a family on a weekend with left over bread
Lovely local walk. Normally ample parking. No amenities for children, no cafe or toilet. Nearby facilities at the garden centre.

Parking is free. Lovely lake and ducks, etc. To feed. Good walks. Enjoyed.
Lovely walk but the people need to keep the dogs on leads, not all dogs are friendly and not all people like dogs.

Beautiful park, great for walking to dog, with a car park close by and paved paths for easy access.
Good for bike riding but why do so many people feed the ducks bread here !!! Why can't they buy wild bird seed from the pet shop/ supermarket?
