Reviews of Oxford Playhouse
R. L.
Not been to The Playhouse for several years. What an absolute Amazing Venue it is. Loved the Auditorium Seats, they certainly do ad some colour. The Play, Persuasion (Thursday 5th May 2022) was stunning. It really is a must see Play.
L. J.
An absolutely beautiful theatre. The staff go above and beyond to ensure your visit is comfortable and enjoyable.
Disabled facilities are available and there are adequate toilet facilities available.
However as with all theatres the bar and snacks are very expensive.
A. S.
I saw Bugsy Malone here last week and it was such an energetic play. You could tell the kids were really enjoying themselves, and the theatre itself has a great atmosphere. I loved the community feeling to it. Definitely recommend!
V. C.
A lovely venue, the colourful seats make it feel very lively and there was a good view from all of the seats in the stalls (I didn't go upstairs). The production was well done and the staff were friendly and helpful, especially with my disabled friend.
C. C.
The performance of Persuasion was amazing! It was the first time I've been to the Oxford Playhouse so they sent me a lovely postcard with a 50% discount voucher. We're going back next month! What a great idea - thank you.
P. &. D. B.
Colourful seats but for my husband not enough leg room so having to stand up when people needed to find their seats. Although we had a good view of the stage from our seats in the stalls. Lack of seating in the interval coffee, tea available ice cream & some bags of sweets but limited. We enjoyed the play with Nigel Havers & Patricia Hodge "Private Lives" excellent acting. Theatre close to train station 10 min walk.
G. C.
Small ish so the pre and post show was hard with kids.
Actual theatre was OK, view, acoustics etc. There was a sharp part on the seat mechanism that caught and ripped my daughters dress, so difficult to rate too well.
K. S.
Wonderful theatre, seats were comfortable and Sarah Millican was amazing.
My only complaint was how hot it was in there, it felt like 34°
R. S.
Oxford playhouse is a lovely venue. Very comfortable and clean. Staff very friendly. Lots of excellent shows.
G. W.
A very comfortable theatre with an excellent reputation for staging both professional and amateur performances.
K. S.
Birthday visit for Hubby's 50 to see lost voice guy, very nice atmosphere, clean tidy and lovely staff.
s. w.
Really like this theatre. Always clean and tidy with very welcoming staff. Fantastic venue. Frequently enjoy a visit to OP.
N. J.
Absolutely loved the whole experience of an evening at the Playhouse. Fantastic play (Private Peaceful), lovely environment, super staff (in particular a very friendly and helpful barman). Highly recommend a visit to the Oxford Playhouse.
M. C.
First time I've been and it was really nice. The staff were great and the theatre is just the right size to see everything.
This is from row K seat 3.
J. Z.
Absolutely first class comedy by Ed Gamble. The theatre was clean bright and airy and the staff were lovely and attentive x
N. C.
Lovely theatre, good choice of drinks, seats are comfortable. Just need to sort out the queuing for the toilets as was chaotic.
K. C.
Very nice. Very comfortable. Easy stage viewing from all most everywhere. Air conditioning
M. G.
Lovely staff, very clean and perfect condition.
Always nice show's to see!
P. B.
Went to see a show here, which was excellent!
Didn't feel like there was a bad seat in the house, good acoustics, and comfortable, pleasantly designed seating all added to the experience.
There's a downstairs and upstairs bar, so we never had a huge wait to deal with, and the staff are all excellent.
Highly recommended!
Y.
Very nice place to see a play.
Always something on for people of every age group as well.
Food could be cheaper.
F. B.
I love the colourful chairs and comfortable bar areas at the Playhouse. The staff are so friendly and helpful. On our last visit, a staff member was sorting us some hot chocolates and was even able to do a dairy free one for my daughter, which made her panto experience even better.
I like the way you get your tickets emailed again just the day before which is a good reminder.
Always a nice experience coming here.
L. S.
Very good theatre 🎭 with cnfy seets. We watched two trains running and it was very good. The acting was professionall and the stage looked amazing. They could put coat wardrobe a bit cheaper or donation like so you don't have to bring your coats in if you are not that rich. Overall a great place to spend an evening, bar has acceptable prices with friendly staff. I recommend the show and the theatre. Cheers.
L. R.
Oxfords 2nd theatre. Lovely
M. M.
Very good medium sized theatre. Loses a star because of the toilets and queue management
T. G.
Too hot. Long queues in interval for toilets. Show was great - Sarah Milican was very very funny.
P. B.
After a year and a half of abstaining, today's socially distanced pantomime was simply fabulous. The theatre was very well organised, the staff were very friendly as always and there was even milk free icecream for my son (he has lots of allergies). Now for the performance. Really really good. Excellent.engaging and fun! The small team were terrific. Well done all!
J. T.
Absolutely beautiful theatre, the different seat colouring really pops on the black backing of the walls.
The décor really helps to make the stage pop.
Staff were friendly and approachable and the facilities were clean.
Great access for those with disabilities and plenty of space between seating for those whom require it.
There was a strange woman all dressed in black, wandering around though... 🤔🤭
A.
Lovely little theatre, friendly welcoming staff, comfy spacious seats and an enjoyable show all in all good night out
D. D.
Cool theatre! The only gripe I have is with how cramped the foyer gets. I know it's a small theatre but still...
J. J.
Amazing experience for me and my children, we visited here to see last years pantomime of Jack and the beanstalk. My children did not want it to end. Food and drinks may be a little pricey and the options are limited so, I do recommend taking a packed lunch for the children. It was everything I hoped it would be. Will definitely go again.
A. S.
Good view of the stage from the circle, no issues with sound system will go again
F.
Great place! The staff are wonderful and the seats are comfy.
G. Y.
Fantastic to be going to see an actual live show after the best part of 18 months!
This venue always feels more intimate for stand up comedy gigs, and is totally worth every penny.
Support your local theatre, you'll be glad you did
D. K.
Our favourite theatre. Its intimate and well set out, has a really great atmosphere too. Staff are very friendly and the refreshments (earl grey is my favourite) are good too.
P. M.
Went for the 1st time to watch Russell. Howard's Respite World Tour and what a fantastic showing it was. The Venue itself is well laid out there was a stand for drinks n snacks then another which was the bar and merchandise, we were served nice and quick and headed in to the auditorium to find our seats. They were very comfortable.
We noticed that during the interval whilst the doors were open we could smell smoke from those smoking I'm guessing out the front of the building maybe that's something that could be addressed, it was minimal in the grand scheme of things and it didn't spoil what was a fantastic evening for us celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary.
g. w.
Absolutely wonderful visit to this Venue to see six the musical. All covid-19 regulations were adhered to. All of the staff were extremely polite, helpful and presented. A very clean, tidy and lovely theatre.
B. b.
Last Panto of the 2021 Christmas run.
Oh no it wasn't.
Oh yes it was.....
Had fun watching the show felt safe and very well run by all the team and cast.
I'll be back later in the year to watch another show.
h. b.
Great time tonight - 1st time at Oxford Playhouse. Well controlled and timely access, exit was a bit chaotic. Loved the show (SIX) - the Queens fill the stage with energy and humour and the songs are fab. Good views from everywhere in the auditorium. Big enough to have great atmosphere, but small enough to feel intimate. Comfy seats, which is a real bonus. Only issue is price of parking in Oxford (not a theatre issue), but very pricey all the same. Would have used park and ride except buses back out to parking end at 18.55 on Sundays - shame.
S. K.
Visited for the first time. Great atmosphere, comfortable seating, clear view of the stage. Good quality sound.
Already booked another show
R. B.
Great theatre in the heart of Oxford, with a very diverse schedule across the year. With children, don’t miss their famous pantomime in December !
J. Z.
Saw a performance of Groan Ups. Show was excellent, theatre is lovely with a modern finish and the seats have great leg room, especially when compared to those in the nearby New Theatre. Can't fault it.
J. N.
Perfect venue. Staff were friendly and polite. And they allowed you to order drinks in advance so to avoid the queue at the interval.
L. W.
Superb venue and shows how little value for money the West End is
S. H.
First visit to the theatre in over a year. It didn't disappoint. From the typically polite queue, to jolly and friendly front of house staff, the intrepid devotees of the stage, socially distanced and sitting apart in their small groups, were treated to a Masterclass by Ralph Fiennes in T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets. A subtle and eloquent performance which was stimulating, thought provoking and thoroughly Oxonian. Bravo and thanks
D.
I enjoyed the performance. I parked at Worcester car park which is a 10 minute amble away. There is an underground car park next door however.
I still don't understand why drinks are soooo expensive. Absolute rip off, it's the theatre, not an exclusive members club. Next time I'll pour a bottle of vino into a freezer bag and pop it in my jacket pocket with a stolen straw from macdonalds.
One way system currently for the use of the toilets but that's the only covid safety measure. Once you're in there it's shoulder to shoulder and closer than an exclusive members club... oh wait.
I. P.
Panto time , Robin Hood great Christmas fun full of puns and jokes well done to the team .
L. M.
We were there for Peppa pig and the production was so good, it had us singing along. The venue is clean, great layout and the service was friendly and professional.
T. S.
3 star rating is due to accessibility. Had circle seats but couldn't find a lift and lots of steps on the tiered seating. Also lots of empty seats so down stairs could of been offered. Not a lot in the cafe food wise but had a decent pot of tea and the man serving was very friendly and did point out accessible toilets. However the play was fantastic!
A.
This was one of the best theatres I've ever been to! Staff were absolutely lovely, from the people at the collections desk right the way through to the ushers. The space and seats were very clean and the production started promptly. Would definitely come here again!
R. A.
Nice theatre, and great staff (thanks to the lovely lady that brought my dad a cup of water while he was coughing in tonight's show)
H. C.
Lovely theatre. Very comfortable seats. Sat in the very back row of the stalls and still had an excellent view of the show.
B. B.
Efficient booking and ticketing system. Friendly staff in the theatre. Relaxed atmosphere and a rousing performance.
C. B.
Lovely to be back in the theatre for. The Midnight Bell extra special to have after show talk by Matthew Bourne. Efficient ordering system in place
C. M.
The main auditorium is nice and well laid out but the toilets are cubicles only so there can be a sizeable queue
A. A.
Enjoyed The Dresser muchly. The theatre is small with a nice bar. Staff very helpful
N. S.
Great venue and reasonable bar prices
A. W.
Very clean ...friend staff ...great show Peppa Pig was wonderful My Granddaughter age 3 loved it and could see perfectly ...will definitely come back to see another show
E. B.
Great theatre. Always gets all the good touring plays in. Referbished seating and much better legroom, which is great when you're over 6ft tall like me. Doesn't matter where you sit in this theatre you'll always have a great view. Bathrooms are standard for theatres - not enough. Usually a queue at interval going all the way down the stairs. Bar is also hard to reach being at the end of the atrium through the seating area.
Not a lot of space to mill around before the show so would recommend grabbing a drink in the White Rabbit or another nearby pub beforehand instead.
e. m.
The best theatre in Oxford. The pantomime is a great show every year!
G. P.
Fantastic venue. Good view of stage, even far back. Nice drinks lounge.
G. W.
Nice mid-sized theatre, recently refurbished. The auditorium is a good place to be. The new seats are very comfortable with excellent legroom (I am 6'2") with good views from everywhere. However, it is almost impossible to get to the stalls bar if busy, same with the toilets in the basement. It also takes an eternity to clear the stalls at the end of the performance as there is only one open exit that mixes to the same point as the balcony.
M. J.
Great theatre highly recommended to go and see the current show ROBIN HOOD PANTOMIME For everyone aged 5 to 105!
C. S.
A good selection of touring plays, comedians and local organisations perform here. All seats have good views of the stage and are clean and comfortable. The cafe bar is well stocked selection of sandwiches, cakes and nibbles; with a selection of tea, coffee, wines and beers. Would highly recommend a visit.
T. P.
Fantastic venue in the centre of Oxford. We went here for the first show since Covid 19, and there's a lot of measures in place to help you feel safe. Temperature taken at door, lots of hand sanitizer, one way system and large gaps between seats. Great venue, great show and great fun! Highly recommended.
A. A.
A well organised run theatre.
V.
Always have a string of amazing performances from perhaps lesser known groups and they never disappoint. The tickets are reasonably priced and the venue is the perfect size so you always get a great view.
The drinks selection is fantastic which always helps.
V. C.
Went to see Pam Ayres. Great show. Great Playhouse.
P. W.
Great theatre with good views of the stage from all seats in the stalls. Seats were comfortable. Bars on stalls & circle levels with reasonable selection of drinks. Staff very helpful & calm during the interval rush.
J. M.
I went to see "Four Quartets" dieected and played by Ralph Fiennes. I was really impressed with the social distancing settings and how well organised The Playhouse is. The play was magnificent and I had a photo opportunity with Sir Ralph Fiennes. Best day ever.
J. T.
Found it difficult to climb the stairs, but the seats were very comfortable. I didn't feel like I was sitting on top of people
Great atmosphere
N. J.
Been a few times, always well organised. Could do with a couple more bar staff 😉
t. l.
Compact venue very friendly staff
D. S.
What can I say? Superb seats, decent price, great offers, great shows. It doesn’t get any better as far as I’m concerned if you like a live show but don’t have “West End pockets”. We saw Birdsong, a book I love, although I know others who are not so keen. I thought it was brilliant. I’m told, however, that the ladies toilets are a logistical nightmare, so 4 stars instead of 5.
D. B.
Nice theatre with comfortable seats although they are slightly on the narrow side. Leg room was good. Not a lot of room in the foyer to wait we got the last two seats in the café/bar. Cafe/bar prices were reasonable. I had an unused ticket which the theatre resold and my account had been credited by the interval :-) Please don't bypass this theatre when looking for entertainment in Oxford.
H. P.
Nice surroundings however very warm at show. Coffee and ice cream were reasonably priced. Miserable member of public in front of us complaining about noise from popcorn which was very unreasonable otherwise lovely bones great show.
S. W.
Such a great little theatre. We were slightly left of the stage,in the circle but we had a perfect view of the show.
Really good service and lovely friendly staff.
J. T.
Ama Amazing performance today.Travelled from Cardiff with road closures, traffic ,parking issues ect but we made it.Person working behind the upstairs bar was lovely.Thankyou
R. F.
What a wonderful theatre! Attended Oxford Playhouse on Tuesday to Watch Little Miss Sunshine (great show by the way), to find an inviting foyer, colourful, clean and comfy seats and a really nice set design. The seating was also reasonably spaced out, unlike some theatres I've been too, and all the staff were really lovely.
I would happily see further shows here and, as it's only 10 minutes walk from Oxford station, it's easy to get to.
J. C.
Went to watch Six here last night, absolutely loved it. Brilliant show.
The staff and all really friendly too!
j. C.
The really enjoy the Old building feel..its right for a night at the opera. Seats are very comfortable, drinks are not over priced and staff are always very friendly especially the guy upstairs with the grey beard, a real character.
F. L.
A lovely small theatre, recently refurbished with comfy (and wonderfully colourful) seats. The café/bar is also worth a visit and is open all day as well as for interval drinks. The stage is relatively small so you won't see grand scale ballet here (go to The New Theatre for that), but the performances range from quirky student plays to highly acclaimed professional productions, plus a wide range of one night only talks or shows from eminent thinkers, actors, musicians or stand-up comedians. Highly recommended.
P. S.
Amazing and comfortable, a great place to watch good theatre
M. A.
Saw Zog, great show
A. J.
We went to see stand up comedianne Sindhu Vee. Good venue and nearby parking. Town centre has some nice takeaway's open.
N. S.
Love the production "The Dresser" really lucky to have quality production in the city at so many venues
M. E.
I love this place. Being tall this is one of the most comfortable theatres I have ever been to. I love the atmosphere, the staff are great, the wine is nice (though expensive) and they do sweet nuts that are superb. I can't get enough of this places and can't recommend it highly enough.
S. B.
Lovely venue, central location, excellent range of shows, plays and concerts to suit most tastes.
j. m.
Local theatre showing a fantastic range of both professional, West end and amateur productions. Comfortable and inexpensive seats available. Booster seats available for young children. Cafe open most of the day for anyone.
M. W.
I love this theatre. It is intimate yet spacious. The seating has been recently recovered and is extremely comfortable with good leg room. They also put on a very good selection of shows.
S. C.
We recieved tickets as Christmas presents for myself, my other half and our 2 boys (aged 3 and 6 years old) from my gran to see Beauty And The Beast, it was the first time my boys have ever been the theatre, they absolutely loved it, so much so we are looking at going next year and at some performances during the year aswell. Thank you. 😍
G. M.
This is a great theatre that has some interesting productions, good and spacious seating, excellent sight lines and a friendly atmosphere. So "if you fancy the show why not go"!
B. L.
Unique city. Great verity of everything.
S.
I haven't been to the pantomime for 2 years. The principal singers were very good and as I knew the story I could follow it. Lots of singing and dancing. Just right for all the family
A. i. t. f.
In heart of Oxford lovely theatre. Comfortable seats! Good repertoire and much cheaper than Westend! You can see touring plays and musicals and enjoy your favourite comedy acts and is all on your doorstep.
L. N.
The staff were nice.
Unfortunately the play was lacklustre, and the seats were cramped together with little leg room
G. H.
I've seen a few performances at the Playhouse. Always a great atmosphere. Customer facilities are compact but effective. Drinks ordered at the bar can be taken into the theatre in plastic cups.
T. K.
A lovely theatre with a great auditorium, friendly staff and some marvellous shows. Thoroughly recommend a visit. Each year there is a wide range of shows to suit all tastes, the university student productions are usually very good.
M. R.
Great theatre, good views from all seats
A. D.
Very comfortable seats reasonably priced giving full view of stage. Great show (Sherlock Holmes Final case). Thoroughly enjoyed it. Could have made more concessions for OAPs at matinée performances, otherwise very enjoyable experience.
P. G.
More enjoyable experience than New Theatre. Cleaner, more spacious and much more reasonable ticket pricing. Excellent visibility from all seats.
H. M.
Following the recent renovations the OP is now an excellent choice for Oxford entertainment. Somehat ironically the New Theatre on George Street now feels a little unloved. The OP is also a more 'open minded' theatre, showing all manner of productions including independent theatre. Excellent service provided.
S. J. T.
Very good. It's been very many years since I was last there but I'll be keeping a close eye on what's on offer in future. The staff were friendly and helpful and the venue is comfortable, especially when compared to some of the competition.
M. M.
First visit. Shame on me. What a gem. Seats brilliant. View of the stage perfect. Really felt like a class venue. I was there for a comedy event bu t the upcoming productions look excellent. I shall return.
R. B.
Im disabled the staff are very helpful and friendly. Theatre is always clean. Always a joy to see shows there. Comfortable seats and even booster seats for the kids
D. S.
Lovely intimate venue. Beautiful location. You have to love a crushingly middle class North Oxford vide though. Enjoy it as a guilty pleasure! Then pop across the road to the Ashmolean to complete the experience.
P. D.
Nice friendly place. Not very ornate like many theatres are. Foyer area way too small for interval drinks but hardly their fault. (old building)
D. G.
Great theatre, seats extremely comfortable, brilliant show, took park and ride for the first time and was dropped 3 min walk from theatre. All in all fantastic experience.
D. A.
Lovely ambience. Great views from anywhere in the auditorium. Lovely situation by the Ashmolean museum.
P. M.
We had the pleasure of watching Rambert here recently. We parked at the seacourt park and ride (£6-80 parking and return fare for 2 adults) and from the drop off in the city centre to the theatre is about a 5 minute walk. The theatre itself is lovely, don't expect an oldie worldie type theatre, this theatre is modern inside but very tasteful. Oh and it has 2 bars to get a pre show drink or 2, drinks are allowed inside the auditorium. We sat in the stalls in row P(see photo) and the view was perfect.
S. B.
Great show. Comfy venue. No distancing, but people being sensible.
C. M.
It's a lovely little theatre, homely and comfortable. All those volunteers making you feel good. Always helpful, makes you feel guilty not being one of them.
T. A.
Went to see Art on tour. A little disappointed as had been looking forward to seeing it for years. Nice theatre though. Comfortable seats with good legroom and view of the stage.
C. B.
I must admit that the staff really make a difference to any establishment and the staff here were extremely helpful.
We really enjoyed the show and are thankful to the staff for helping us with our seating issue.
A. H.
Super safe, nice bars, comfortable seating friendly atmosphere
C. H.
A nice venue with plenty of space and very easy to navigate. Seats are quite wide and the view of the stage, even from relatively far back, was fine.
S. Q.
Saw The Tiger Who Came To Tea with the grandchildren. Great show, great venue, welcoming and helpful staff. A good place for adults and children - come and be entertained!
N. G.
Recently seem Woman in Black and SIX - both were excellent shows staged in a brilliant venue.
C. K.
Nice downstairs cafe with a generous wine selection. We saw an amateur play, and I would recommend seats on the second level. Great views at a reasonable price.
A. O.
Lovely theatre always a great diverse programme.
P. M.
I love their selection of plays and newly refurbished seating is comfortable. Generally good views from just about every set (I haven't tested them all!)
c. m.
Fantisic little theatre, always feels like an intimate performance.
D. W.
A good quality playhouse that offers very good deals for students. The bar is a little small and does get very crowded during intervals however, as the main stage is equipped with a huge amount of seating.
R. C.
Very modern and clean sat upstairs had a wonderful view of the stage
A. W.
The vibrant, comfortable seating reflected the youth and energy of MCS actors and this amazing production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. This is the most engaging, amusing and polished version of the play that I have seen. The young actors cast a spell over an enraptured and captivated audience.Puck's mischief and humour enthralled us and the whole cast brought a vitality and intelligence to a play that would have delighted The Bard.
T. R.
Very central location, with great comfy seating here. Saw a live podcast recording here that ran for a long time but was very comfortable and happy. Always worth seeing what's on!
M. G.
Lovely theatre. Very helpful staff in the box office (both in person and by telephone). Lovely clean and comfortable auditorium—particularly the seats!
P. H.
Always love this venue. Comfy seats with enough leg room, nice bar area, good loos and friendly, helpful staff.
S. T.
Nice theatre. Middle and rear section are racked which helps give a better view. Worth bearing in mind when choosing your seats.
I. M.
Good quality local theatre with excellent programme including diverse range both terms of age of audience and type of production. Excellent auditoriums including a studio theatre.
B. B.
Took my Grand daughter to see Tabby McTat. Great Fun and interactive. Playhouse staff friendly and informative went for Packed lunch option for the kids. Great
C. D.
Seen "Relatively speaking" there. Great show and the building is also very nice. The chairs are comfortable and offer enough space both for the legs and the shoulders.
a. f.
Great comedy show...5 very different comedians all very funny
M. L.
Great show, fabulous family time. All ages enjoyed their evening there. Like the colourful seats:)
M. H.
Good venue. Offered everything we needed and it wasn't too hot inside the venue hall.
L. D.
I have been here for cinderella and jack and the beanstalk, kids loved it both times, plenty of adult jokes that go unnoticed by the kids and loads of fun poked at Donald Trump! all round fun for the family, will definitely be going again!
G. H.
Great venue, fantastic show, though a little hectic in the foyer and the bar is a bit slow. Really enjoyed our visit nonetheless :)
E. J.
Went to comedy show and enjoyed the visit - much better than large venues like the ICC where you have to watch on the bigger side screens much prefer the smaller venues
M. B.
Always the most friendly theatre and comfortable. No big names in the panto but such talent. Great show.
W.
Staff were super friendly and helpful, seating is comfortable and the view unrestricted.
M. S.
Great to know that performances are starting again very soon. Can't wait to welcome back real audiences
T. G.
Wow !!!! what a great place ! ! An amazing show !!! We had so much fun, the boys loved it ! Can’t wait for next years pantomime!!they were very friendly , the place was very clean too.it was just an amazing night !
L. O.
Lovely theatre- saw Six- the most fantastic uplifting show! Fantastic
A. C.
The Oxford Playhouse is a jewel in the Oxford crown. This theatre is a far more intimate experience when compared to the New Theatre. There is barely a bad seat in in the house except perhaps those at the very front.
R. M.
Nice theatre, seats a quite comfortable
S. K.
Wonderful theatre. Great seating and lovely surroundings. Staff always lovely too.
s. s.
It's a great little theatre, even the rear seats offer good views and the staff are helpful and friendly
Y. N.
Great afternoon out at The Tiger Who Came To TEA 🍵 🐯 XX I danced even more than my granddaughter 😂 Lovely young batista carried our coffees through as I was so laden down Tiny Fruit shoots bit pricey at 2. 50 bit good coffee ☕
L. F.
Saw Russell Howard last Friday, seats have good leg room. Impressed
A. F.
Lovely traditional theatre. Excellent pantomime!
J. W.
Watched Blue Orange. It was very good. Maybe the prices for the snacks could be lower.
S. F.
Really enjoyed Rush at The Oxford Playhouse. Great theatre.
J. H.
Good theatre. But no live music.
W. W.
Went to the theatre as part of a works do last night to see beauty and the beast, had a great time and the olay was very good, and to the wicked witch, i will be your slick rick anytime 👍👍👍👍👍
A. P.
Ive love going to the playhouse all over the years even at Christmas time just love it
S. S.
Went to see Sara Pascoe and although we where in the 'Cheaper seats' it was such a great view as I feel that this theatre is much smaller and more intermit.
l. m.
Really comfy chairs. the snacks are extremely pricy (£3 for medium maltesers). In some places it's hard to see past the people in front
G. R.
Very friendly front of house and bar staff. Any element of social distancing not possible for most performances.
M. K.
i had a bad experiance here envolving the prices of ice cream and other food during the interval. The plays hwoever they regularly show are brilliant and are very entertaining for me, my parents, grand parents and siblings. I come here reguarly due to me living locally and i'll be sure to return soon!
P. N.
As I have long legs I normally have to sit at the end of aisles but here I find there is a nice bit of legroom so I can sit anywhere
V. B.
Comfortable seating and temperature with lots of air blowing through and good social distancing measures.
K. W.
Needs another disabled toilet.
A.
Went here ages ago with my mother to watch a play.... It was amazing the kids who attended also loved it.. Had a great experience could not find a single problem with it
K. B.
Loved this theatre...great history too of its location..easy to park and easy to find...great little cafe inside too which supply interval drinks ..
L. S.
Excellent performance as usual. Panto was well thought out. Theatre clean and tidy. Staff friendly and helpful.
T. P.
Easy location to get to, great seat, brilliant for kids. Concessions aren't cheap, so make sure you take your own food and water!
D. B.
The Wipers Times, Ian Hislop and Nick Newman. What an excellent location to watch this very informative play. The Playhouse has long been a favorite location of mine and will continue to be so.
K. W.
The Playhouse is a comfortable almost intimate but not claustrophobic venue with a varied offering of plays and performances.
J. M.
Lovely clean theatre and great access as I'm in crutches. Comfortable seating.
A. A. J.
My first visit to the cafe/bar ...Nice atmosphere...most staff very friendly and welcoming...apart from the bar manager who was training a young lady...he was rude and impatient..and when he served me he was officious and patronising. All in all though it was a very enjoyable experience...and the prices are very reasonable.
E. C.
Great theatre but unfortunately an awful show - Macbeth by The Windmill Theatre. I have seen many other great shows here.
B. B.
Good, but some very left wing content to most plays. (e. g. Jack & the Beanstalk - the giant was Donald Trump, his henchmen were Brexiteers, they quoted the Communist Manifesto and made jokes exclusively about the Tories).
M. G.
Small theatre so had a good view despite sitting at the back of the circle. Really friendly staff.
D. R.
Again another interesting and enjoyable show. Educating Rita was well preformed by the two members of the cast.
N. P.
Beauty and the beast very good performance. Except the tea puns... tiresome and never ending. Smart venue, and comfortable
J. S.

H. R.
Trendy bar, good seats throughout and a friendly atmosphere. An excellent variety of performances, overall very nice venue.
s.
Irascible Stewart Lee on great form. Experience of loos at break why I can't give 5th star. Longest queues just not good enough.
H. L.
Intimate, modern and easy to access. Artsy content and standard remortgage your house for an ice cream in the interval prices.
J. T.
Nice medium sized room and stage giving the audience the feel that the performance artists are part of the crowd.
