Reviews of The Cresset
S. W.
We went to the "circus" of perdition arts, two adults and two children, and were completely bowled over by the first rate performances of every act, a truly brilliant experience. The theatre itself was well set up with plenty of sanitisers and staff to help everyone. Definitely highly rated, especially as it was all free!
O. 9.
Saw Jason Fox's book tour here, it was a great experience to see someone who has inspired me to be the best version of myself.
The venue itself was easy to find in Peterborough city centre, it had a bar and plenty of seats for a large event, the seats were a little cramped however this was the only downside.
S. P.
It was fantastic! Great customer services, really good layout, very covid19 friendly and overall a lovely environment. (Bar is expensive so take your own drinks in your bag!)
D. M.
Went to watch the panto for the first time it was a fantastic performance, everyone really enjoyed it. The staff at The Cresset were all great very helpful and friendly couldn't ask for more. Looking forward to going again.
V. W.
I came to The Dreamboys show, The Venue has a fantastic view of the stage.Easy to find, well organised inside, although when we came out the show, we left via a different door... And the Car Park wasn't easy to find, so perhaps some signposts might be beneficial.
M.
It is a great venue, bringing a lot of different artists and shows to Peterborough. Also has an on-site pub, if you want an after party!
G. E.
This is more my problem - I find the seats so uncomfortable. But the staff were lovely, and the gig was fantastic. I just need better health!
S. G.
Went to see a show, which was fantastic. Only let down was the event bar. Took around 20 minutes for a mere 6 people in front of us to be served.
m. D.
Fabulous place. Very well organised. Wonderful choir concert raising money for Prostate cancer
B. S.
Saw Steve Hackett here and 5 stars for the gig, but the auditorium itself was like a large school hall and thank God I was at the end of a row so I had some space, the seating is not permanent cinema or theatre style and therefore fairly cramped. Staff friendly enough but as a venue I'd look elsewhere in the future as I'm not local. For £50 / ticket one expects somewhere looking as it the auditorium has been refurbished in the last 30 years and certainly more comfortable less packed seating. Couldn't even see row letters marked out so finding one's seat a matter of luck. It's also miles away from the centre, so more parking would have been good, couldn't find the overflow car park so parked on a side street. I hate writing negative reviews but I was really rather surprised by both location and overall quality.
M. C.
A surprising little venue. Felt like a leisure centre on arrival but actually was a pretty decent entertainment space on the inside with a decent Calendar of events
C.
My fave place to watch shows in Peterborough they have some great shows on here and plenty of parking such a good night out if you are looking for something to do of an evening.
A. L.
Parking was a bit limited as they directed us to the grass which I scraped my bumper on, but inside was nice, bar was good and the staff were friendly.
C. T.
Went to see Dreamboys finally after 3years of waiting due to covid, venue was good and dreamboys would of been excellent but next time leave the drunk at home
M. R.
Watched Elf the Musical last week, it was really good! I had a great time and have recommended it to others. The only reason why this is not 5 stars is because of the parking situation being very stressful.
D. H.
Lovely little venue, easy access from A1. Shame there is nowhere around within walking distance to eat other than the venue bar...and I dont mean subway or the fish and chip shop!
Parking can be a problem so arrive early...
K. M.
It's not the Palladium bit its Spot on, plenty of space, good prices and a down to earth atmosphere.
M. H.
Great concert tonight to see Steve Hackett's Genesis Revisited Seconds Out and more show. The place was rocking and the staff were courteous and helpful.
D. M.
I run crafty jax inside the cresset, where we supply personalised Wooden and acrylic gifts, come rain or shine, also 3D crystal balloons and cards come and have a look around
S. C.
Great place with good acts just needs seating updating.
S. A.
Went to see Red Hot Chilli Pipers. Brilliant event, absolutely first class night out. Great venue, well managed and maintained. Will definitely by going to more events and well done to the Cresset team. 👏
G. J.
Just been to see 'Marty Wilde', 'The Tornadoes' and 'Sounds Force Five' a great show. This is a really good venue run by polite staff and with very ample parking.
N. N.
Nish Kumar was amazing. The centre is well set up for performances.
J. A.
Great venue, lots of space, there's a bar and snacks available, not too expensive
T. C.
Burn the Stage what a fantastic show and the Cresset staff were great, especially Kay in the ticket office.
D. H.
Show was fantastic venue very small long queue for the bar but would go again
J. H.
Really nice place. Great parking.
C. J.
Great access for disabled people..staff helpful and friendly..parking well managed..many thanks..had a great time
S. B.
Great evening out and staff were helpful and friendly 😀
C. K.
Decent venue but the seats are very narrow.
S. L.
The Cresset has recently been refurbished. This has created a pleasant atmosphere in which to enjoy the shows.
M. L.
Went to an 80's disco themed night and was excellent, well organised everyone very friendly, staff efficient and friendly
p. e.
Went to see Russell Howard. Very funny. Brilliant humour. The warm up comedian was good as well. A lovely evening.
P. O.
Great place to go, a hidden gem. The venue is the perfect size to see music groups & comedians. Staff are exceptionally helpful & friendly. The website is easy to use to book tickets.
T. L.
Good place for gigs and theatre - easy access and parking
A. H.
Great venue friendly staff and a great atmosphere.
R. G.
Great place that has a variety of shows throughout the year
S. A.
Great variety of shows and facilities at the cresset family friendly
P. O.
Great theatre and amazing service from all of the staff who were helpful, friendly and informative.
t. s.
Good entertainment very clean friendly and helpful staff
r. h.
Went to see Marty Wilde he was brilliant we had temperature took as we went in which is a good thing
s. f.
Saw Dolly parton impersonator very very good lovely staff great place to visit
T. A.
Lovely local theatre with friendly staff.
D. C.
Venue was great the free carpark was too small for the turnout.
A. B.
Attended a stand up comedy evening. It was really well managed, staff were friendly and helpful and the comedians were really funny. What more could you ask for! 😀🎭
e. C.
Drinks were expensive and comedians were not funny in my opinion. (Although others seemed to have fun!)
T. T.
A lovely theatre. Had a good night
S. B.
Excellent show. Plenty of free parking
S. C.
Parking not very good, but a good place to visit
N. H.
Nice clean and tidy theatre
T. A. -. F. L.
The theatre is an okay place. Not too big, nor too small. A basic one, but great. Watched little mix tribute here. And it wasn't a disappointing experience. The girls are fantastic, beautiful strong voices, good stage performances. Sound systems are superb. Lighting is a bit let down. Heard it wasn't provided by the venue.
S. D.
Thoroughly enjoyed our evening out. The Upbeat Beatles were very good
S. E.
Well done to all the players and staff it was brilliant
K. A.
The seating is not the most comfortable but a reasonable theatre to watch shows in Peterborough
K. G.
A visit to this theatre for a live show is very worthwhile. Reasonably comfortable seating and good sound system.
A. L.
Visited as a wedding venue and it was very nice. Current challenges were met with flexible and professional staff.
T. D.
It's a good budget venue. Plenty of facilities, good staff, parking and fairly well located, about 5 miles off the A1, but all on dual carriage ways. Seating in the largest auditorium is budget and tight, if you want leg room, choose front row!
I. S.
Easy to get to, plenty of parking. Nice enough theatre, but the acts you see make it special. Shame there aren't more eateries/pubs nearby for a pre or post act meal/drink. But generally it's OK.
D. M.
Good (if slightly dated - 1970s) community centre with a decent theatre.
It is very much a multi function venue.
At the bottom are the theatre, a pub, a YMCA gym and a few commercial properties.
On the upper level are the public library, a barbers and a few local shops.
The car park is at the back of the building and quite small for nights when events are on. You can park in the shopping centre at the front of the building but time is limited and fines are issued so be very careful.
R. D.
Only went there to donate blood, but it seemed like a great place to visit, if you want a haircut, eyebrows done, tattoo even. And lets not forget entertainment..
B. B.
air conditioning needed, even Russel Brand complained how hot was there
R.
Pleasant staff, nice venue
G. G.
Here for Russell Brand 🎉
B. C.
Decent size, multi function venue. There's a pub built into the premises for food and drink. Toilets are nice and clean. Car parking is limited, it can quickly fill up when popular events are on. The Cresset doesn't host the biggest and best shows, but it has a reasonable variety and the occasional big name.
M. J. L.
An amazing garden and herb garden by the Church of the Holy Spirit in Bretton is being ruined by people throwing cigarette butts, plastic wrappers and drinks cans in it.
Bretton is better than this, surely.
Not asking a lot to use the bins located no more than 20 feet away.... People of Peterborough should take more pride in their city.
K. D.
Great venue and staff. Toilets were clean and the panto was great.
Keep it up.
p.
Jimmy was the best but Cresset as venue would help some refurbishment.
M. S.
Great local entertainment, crippling legroom.
S. E.
Visited the Cresset to see the Giovanni Pernice dance show which was brilliant.
He is an excellent dancer and entertainer.
This venue is a multifunction building and is somewhat dated. There is parking on site although when we arrived half an hour before the show the car park was full. The attendant attempted to direct us to the overflow car park but the directions were sketchy and not clear for we non locals. Having tried several roads in search of a car park in the dark, we eventually found it.
It was a poorly lit walk from the car park back to the theatre particularly for an 86 year old.
The entrance isn’t very clear but we followed some Peterborough folks and found our way.
It’s rather ‘school hall’ inside the foyer area but okay.
The seating is quite tight, rather like aeroplane seating but with less comfortable seats. Unfortunately we were seated next to a lady who found the seating size challenging which in turn impacted on our comfort.
Fortunately the show compensated for all the discomfort with Giovanni giving a fantastic performance.
A. H.
Superb theatre. Although the place is a bit dated they put on some excellent shows. The sitting arrangement gives excellent views of the stage. Definitely worth considering for great night out. They held Peterborough's first Comic Con. A fantastic convention and well worth looking out for in 2019.
G. A.
Local gem
D. L.
Overall a good experience. Food at on site restaurant 2/3 star but service very good. Seating in theatre at front is on same level so gives some limit to viewing stage. Parking at front seamed limited.
C. M.
Just seen Russell Howard, it was the most fun I've had on a Monday for a long time.
J. H.
Absolutely awesome night!! Awesome 80s night!! :)
S. R.
We had our wedding reception at the Cresset last week, it was a brilliant event. Alison who arranged everything was wonderful, all the staff are very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them.
The food was great, much better quality then you would of thought for a buffet.
It was well organised everyone knew what to do.
Brilliant event, would definitely use again.
J. L. G. (.
Little run down, but it's open so that's a plus
A. H.
A great place for some shoes, only downside is the seats are close together so gets cramped.
D. H.
fantastic night very clean and the staff are very polite
D. L.
Used the 'Gallery'. Paid for buffet. Plenty of food tea and coffee for guests. Basic room layout but this is an ideal meeting place for an after funeral reception. Also a bar available if required.
Double entrance so reception staff couldn't greet incoming guests. Lift available for those who have difficulty walking. Plenty of car parking in front and behind venue.
D. C.
Some really good comedians attend this place, however the decor and seating is in desperate need of an update! The seats can be uncomfortable look quite old and there never seems to be much of an atmosphere. Its quite basic, but has just about enough to form a good night when a show is on!
S. K.
Great place great acts go there and great place to work I love it
W. S.
Oh yes this place is awesome, saw Russel Howard 👌
S. S.
Great venue for entertainment, theatre, stand up and gigs. Building is a bit jaded but we are still lucky to have this place as it contributes significantly to the cultural offerings in the city. Take a look at their programme - there's always some good shows on and some big names too. The Cresset Centre also houses shops, the Bretton Library, YMCA Housing and Gym, Church of the Holy Spirit, Elderly Persons Day Centre, the Kingfisher Centre and the Soft Play Centre.
L. M.
Antique fair. Hall was very cold. For a period 9 to 4pm not good. Parking seemed OK until told we had to move to another area to accommodate customers. I thought we were customers! Loos good and strangely warm.
M. F.
It was the best night ever! Everyone has made an effort, music was ace and the venue was nicely decorated 😊definitely go again in March 2020.
C. J.
Good service but quite 'basic' sardines-ville! The overflow car park needs to be made more obvious, but Bretton Centre car park is just as accessible, but dont arrive there late as they shut that exit during performances.
M. R.
I been here many times for alot of events , it's an all rounder of a location and it kept clean and tidy. And serves beer for late night events and everything is well priced but need more toilets.
G. H.
Saw Ben Fogle. Riveting show . Theatre Shabby. Needs new seats. BUT very good stepping between row which means not got head of the person in front blocking view of stage. Restaurant very good, friendly staff.
R. C.
Clean tidy but covid procedures not strict
D. H.
Went and saw the panto Robin Hood. Show was great and venue itself, the stage is good and there is tones of seats which didnt become uncomfortable at all. So I'd say all in all a good place!
M. L.
Safe venue great night x
C. R.
Great venue for a party night out. Excellent DJ
S. R.
I do sort of take this place for granted as it has been on my doorstep for nearly 30 years, and I have previously worked here.
It is worth checking out one of their many shows, they offer a wide range of shows for ballet productions to comedians.
There are many function rooms for hire for any occasion.
The Cresset also has 'Dave The Clowns Funhouse' for the little ones or 'The Fayre Spot' bar for a quick drink. It is located at Bretton Centre which has a good range of shops.
M. G.
The good thing about the Cresset as a concert venue is that even at the back you aren't far away. The trouble is that leg room is lacking and wooden boards prevent you from even taking advantage of a bit of space under the seat in front.
M. T.
Fun local theater, went with the kids to see the anuual pantomime. Friendly and organised staff, great production quality. Everyone had a great time... We'll be back next year for Cinderella.
J. O.
Been here many times over the years. Was here to see a talk by Ben Fogle. Easy free parking available in the local sainsburys for up to four hours if the cresset car park is full.
Snacks amd drinks available at the events and not overpriced like some places. Seats were comfortable, would go again.
D. R.
Limited nearby parking but it is free. Bars are not particularly comfortable and limited offerings. Stage is good, with good view and sound from most areas but seating is not comfortable.
P. D.
Great night! We went to see Michael Jackson look alike. We bought tickets for the front ( third row back ). But I was very disappointed when the audience from the back decided to come to the front and stand in front of the stage. There was several seats not taken, so they could have bought those.
A. S.
Excellent show tonight. The enjoyment in the faces of all the students. There should be more opportunities for our children to shine and grow in confidence like this. Thanks to the Cresset for this.
D. B.
The booking staff were sticklers on who they would hand over tickets to. My friend had booked and paid for tickets. He had emailed me saying collect the tickets from box office.
Second email saying he was running late because of his carers. Getting into taxi now.
But the staff still would not let me have the tickets until he arrived only 5 mins before show started.
We had trouble getting to our seats as others were not kind enough to stand up so we could get passed.
So this spoiled our experience of the show as my friend was in a lot of pain.
R. W.
I come here for meetings with work approx 6 times a year. The building serves many purposes but has a tiny carpark and looks a little run down. However is close to lots of amenities.
P. M.
We attended the recent Minecraft convention and I was really impressed by the organisation and friendly staff. Do take note of the parking arrangements / arrive early as they are quite limited, but there are other options nearby.
D. C.
Went to see Rhod Gilbert, who was brilliant, but loud music could be heard from the venue next door at the back of the auditorium which spoilt our enjoyment of the show.
S. W.
Always fun to take our school group here for the panto pre-Christmas. My only request is that they consider sensitive ears and turn down the volume, can be overwhelming for many.
R. H.
Quite a small theatre but nice although seating could be more comfortable
Very nice meal in the restaurant in the complex before the show and very reasonably priced
C. 9.
Quite like this place all services are not so obviously advertised. Great centre to shop Sainsbury, Aldi, Charity Shops. Building society, Post Office, Cafe, Pets, Vets, Big Pound Shop,Boots, Laura Ashley, Iceland, News Agent, Card Shop. Car Phone Warehouse and so on and great Fish and Chip Shop and Domino's.
D. L.
Some excellent shows here and we enjoyed the Sun Records recently. Seats are getting a little uncomfortable and will need some attention soon.
R. H.
Excellent facilities and a great seating capacity, wide range of different productions to experience, it's all going on at The Basket of Fire! (thank you Mr Acaster)
M. W.
The illegal eagles best tribute band I've ever seen but lady hushers are a bit of jobs worths people taking photos of group but were stopped yet singer said it was ok so long as they never video the group
m. m.
Just got back from seeing That will be the day.Fantastic show. We go to see it twice a year. Both shows are
Different. Well worth what you pay
Fantastic
d. m.
We were there for the panto. Tickets were reasonable for the production.
The nibbles on sale in the entrance hall were well over priced. £3 for a bag of chocolate buttons!!
K. B.
The Cresset is a rather seedy relic of the 1960s. The shopping centre isn't great and the theatre has uncomfortable seats and very little leg room. It's quite an ordeal for a taller person to sit through a show here. Having said that, there aren't many venues in the area and they do put on good performances.
C. B.
We may go again!
S. W.
The top venue in Peterborough. It's small and a little run down and Peterborough really should do better, but it attracts some top acts though.
J. B.
Great show
A. J.
I use the YMCA studio every evening, for a variety of exercise classes. I enjoy the classes and most of the teachers.
I have never used the entertainment side of the Cresset. I will do when I see a show which which interest me.
M. S.
Went here to see Jimmy Carr. The carpark had been overtaken by a large group of people living in caravans however the staff were well organised and directed everyone to an overflow carpark. No fuss or hassle.
C. M.
Mostly good shows. Good views of the stage. Friendly staff. Nice pub. Comedy club especially good
O. S.
Perfect venue for big functions. Staff are very friendly and very helpful if you require anything, they will go out of there way to help
d. h.
Seen Roy Chubby Brown was brilliant
L. K.
Went to see Dirty Dancing. Wasn't the musical as I first thought. Could have been better advertised. Brought a drink that was months out of date and flat!
s. j.
Very nice venue
P. M. g.
Was there to see a show bit small but ok seats were ok could have been better overall very good
d. b.
Fab Night with Marty Wilde and the Wilde Cats.
J. B.
Good basic little venue. Poor facilities though.
In Peterborough we really do need to do better.
K. R.
