Reviews of Devil's Point
C. R.
Enjoyed an evening stroll with the wife and dog. Great little circular walk past devil’s point both starting and finishing at the Royal William Yard in Stonehouse, Plymouth. Enjoyed the sunset and views of the Tamar, Mount Edgecombe across the water, Smeaton’s Tower in the distance, and Drake’s Island.
A. A.
Really nice spot. Parking were free on Christmas day but usually there is parking charges. View is amazing plenty seating branches nice clean path. Going back tomorrow at different time for different view.
A. G.
Very cute place to walk around/sit/picnic and watch over the water. Free parking for up to three hours, but it is limited! Ideal parking for Royal William Yard too.
I. S.
Devil's Point provides a lovely walk around the tip between river and sea. Gorgeous views towards Mount Edgcumbe and Drake's Island, a peaceful spot to watch ships come and go out face into the distance towards the breakwater. Definitely a place with a stunning view.
A.
Lovely place for a walk around the perimeter of Royal William Yard and take in the sea views - so pretty. Paths are flat and the vistas are wonderful.
P. C.
A good local spot where you can swim in the sea or the tidal pool. There is a rocky beach, a stony beach, a view of Drakes Island and a novel tunnelled access to Royal William Yard and it’s shops, restaurants and ferry. You can even get to see the odd naval vessel coming in and out of port.
D.
Nice 😎 first 2 hours in carpark is free
S. J.
Fantastic views and some nice history
T. B.
Wonderful place to stay your day. A safe and supportive local environment for wild swimming. Easy access to the sea and sea pool for beginners or children. Wonderful views of the sound and very peaceful.
i. C.
A nice relaxing place to go for lunch with coastal path walks. On the down side is the misleading carparking sign. In big letters it says 'Free Parking' in small letters it says you have to register your car details. There were quite a few cars with penalty notices displayed. So there will be some disgruntled visitors to Plymouth. Well Done!
A. C.
Love this car park!
- free, no restrictions
- approx 20-30 min walk to centre
- Spaces for all sizes of vehicles including approx 4 disabled spaces
- slightly sloping especially towards the rear
- fantastic views to just sit and look out to ocean, including view of drakes island, naval ships, famous lighthouse and yachts.
- nice walking along the water with plentiful grass for dog
- toilets, free swimming pool etc nearby
- ample benches
- bins for dog bags or emptying car/ picnic waste
I. E.
Used to come here 25 years ago to watch my late stepfather leave from HMNB Devonport on 6 month deployments.
Always amazing views of Plymouth sound whatever the weather you get an unfiltered view.
Adam :)

Absolutely beautiful. Went for a picnic and sat right next to the waters edge. Ap much history in one setting! Even saw an old style sailing ship go by. Only went to one spot as there is so much to see, we went blackberry and apple picking and managed to pick so much we made a pie when we got home, which was delicious. There are areas to play football, to sit and watch the boaters out on the water or just take in the stunning scenery. The tide comes in very quick, so do be careful not to get trapped and the water itself is not wheelchair accessible, but the pathways all across the top are flat and very wheelchair/ pushchair friendly. Great place for dog walking and families with children of all ages, and the parking is free, which is an added bonus.
P. W.
Don't forget to register your car registration at the pay machine even though its free for 3hours
M. C.
Lovely place to just relax & go for a walk or take the dog always something happening in the river Tamar into sea saw a Frigate and a submarine the other day. Lovely on a sunny day
-.
Favoured by dog walkers, Devil's Point provides an excellent coastal view of Plymouth and Plymouth Sound. The sights whilst walking are simply breathtaking and amazing to behold. There are a number of facilities, toilets and shower facilities (20p for the toilet, £1 for the shower). With a cash only cafe and a restaurant for those who like a bite to eat, a free (unattended) swimming pool which makes the most of the sea water and a rock beach. Devil's Point comes with a high recommendation from me.
L. A.
Firestone Bay for wild swimming is a great location
A. M.
Really nice we enjoyed the day out walking and have a sunny day
L. C.
Beautiful area to visit. Fantastic views across Plymouth Sound and Drakes Island surrounded by small boats enjoying the calm waters
T. R.
Great location to take a stroll or go for a swim and so close to the city and other great attractions.
E. J.
It's a nice quiet place to spend your evenings..
J. A.
Lovely place if you like military history. Great views of Plymouth Sound and Drake's Island. You may be lucky enough to see a Frigate leaving the dockyard. A couple of drawbacks, the carpark can fill up very quickly and it's very popular with dog walkers with most of the dogs off lead...
L. D.
Beautiful area but the car park is a nightmare. The ticket machine for the free 3 hour parking was out of service so you have to download the app and pay 10p anyways. It's also really busy, luckily got a space thanks to people telling us they were leaving soon. But don't rely on this car park not being busy
M. D.
Went for a short walk to explore the local area. Lovely spot, even if the weather wasn't great. A must when sunny.
C. G.
Lovely place to relax especially when the sun is out ,However watch out for the Sneaky carpark attendant, if you miss spell your details (reg)on your free 3 hour ticket You will certainly get a ticket
F. i. L. V. (.
Right next to Royal William yard. Lovely area. Beach area is pebbled rather than sand. The coastal walk is enjoyable.
L. H.
A good place to park and enjoy the view of Plymouth Sound, go for a walk.
3 hours parking is free.
S. L.
What a wonderful walk down at devils point wonderful views and the walk is nice. Would go there again.
G. B.
Amazing views and carpark is free for 3 hours.
M. G.
Carpark is free for 1st 3 hours but YOU STILL NEED A TICKET! Otherwise you'll get a £25 parking ticket like we did....
d. l.
Nice place to visit free car paring .Great views .you can also walk to royal William yard
A. M.
So much love for this mini pebble beach and short walk around the sea front. Can see drake's Island close and mount edgecum etc. A cafe is available and a car park and plenty of benches scattered around. Beautiful scenery and a place I love to visit and relax. Highly recommended for a short stroll and views of owe.
G. R.
Lovely place to walk and watch the sunset.
T. C.
Lovely view. Everyone having good times. You can walk to the beach.
S. P.
A great place to visit, with stunning views. 😊
S. P.
Great place to see the Moon
J. C.
Plenty of free parking and disability spaces, accept there is a walk between car park and any cafe or access to beach. Fabulous views out, and stair access to pebble beaches for a Paddle or swim. Cafes are dotted around, would recommend hutong Cafe 5 min walk away down the hill
G. Y.
For many years this has been my "go to" place where I want some time to reflect and refresh. The scenery is lovely and it's a short bike ride away. There is free parking nearby (3 hour limit). There's a hut serving tea/coffee and basic snacks. Sip the tea, look at the view and feel life's pressures ease.
L. B.
Good for the views and exploring the shore at low tide.
J.
Beautiful view of the sound, rarely busy.
Small cafe nearby and short walk to royal william yard.
People also fish off the rocks here.
K. S.
Beautiful views with good parking! Great for scenic walks, picnics or just taking the dog out! Generally a great spot for those who love sea views.
E. g.
Nice place to visit. Parking free up to 3 hours.
D. S.
A very beautiful walk with some awesome views. Walking distance to Royal William Yard too which is also beautiful. Lots of history around the point too which is always worth a read as your walk around. Highly recommended.
J. D.
Nice little tidal pool ,free parking and a short walk down to the pool.
A. G.
Fantastic view of the sound and probably the closest point to Cornwall whilst in Devon. Good for a view of Drake's island.
A. L.
From Devils Point this afternoon, when HMS Albion, upper decks manned, departed for her deployment.
J. W.
A great place to go for a peaceful walk. Parking gets busy in the holiday season. Many people take food and drink and enjoy the views which are spectacular. It's not a place to let kids run free as there are many unprotected edges..so if taking your kids keep a close watch on them. Great for dog walkers. There is a toilet nearby. You can also walk to Royal William Yard from here. Worth a visit.
f. v.
Favourite place for sunrise shots with camera and great place for dog to have a walk & swim
A. S.
Devil’s Point is one of those areas of natural beauty that lends itself effortlessly to so many purposes, whether that be walking the dog, spending time with family, a romantic evening walk, or an afternoon picnic with friends and a portion of fish and chips. For me, Devil’s Point has served all of these functions and more, becoming a site that has been long central to my childhood memories and, I hope, more to come.
Boasting views of Mount Edgcumbe and Drake’s Island on one side, and views of the tidal pool and the reaching coastline on the other, Devil’s Point offers an unparalleled sense of quietness away from the busyness of the city.
For those visiting the bars and restaurants in the nearby Royal William Yard will find Devil’s Point an ideal close to the evening. Equally, those that have spent the afternoon walking will find the Royal William Yard the perfect place to get a drink and a bite to eat before heading home. Regardless of your reason for being in the area, the views available at Devil’s Point will make you glad that you took the time to visit.
M. T.
A lovely scenic spot to sit and watch the world go by. The car park isnt very big, so parking is at a premium. They have a few disabled bays along the front with great views of the sounds. There is access to some walks that are wheelchair accessible and is a short walk to Royal William Yard
J. R.
It's a peaceful interesting corner of Plymouth where you can forget that it's actually in a city!
J. R.
Nice view, lovely little walk round the coastline
A. C.
Put the kayaks in here and went off to drake’s island it’s busy on a weekend because it’s a good location to enter the sea.
A. g.
Stunning view and lovely place to walk or swim. Its very clean and the sea looks lovely on sunny days. Nice spot to get some food and ice cream too with toilets available and very close to royal william yard.
N.
Beautiful views. Quiet area to walk in, even in August. In 2021, the toilets near the little shop/cafe are free, even though it appears you have to pay 20p to use them.
M. H.
Free parking with a lovely little cafe not far from the main car park. Love stopping here one of the best views of Drakes Island and it’s always nice an empty. Follow the park along the shore line for 15 - 20mins and you’ll arrive at Royal Williams Yard which is also a nice place to spend time and maybe grab something to eat.
v. f.
One of the best views of the City of Plymouth 💙
C. M.
Relaxing view from there looking out to the Island. Shelter from the rain to eat lunch. PEACEFUL.
j. m.
Great location & views, steeped in history, & well worth a visit.
r. d.
Lovely tranquil place to sit and relax, watch all the water activities take photos or draw. Free car park there too but can be busy, so go early!
J. S.
Free car park and pleasant walk in either direction along the coastal path.
Becoming increasingly difficult to find a car park space here though.
Sea water paddling/boating pool
Great view over Plymouth Sound
Modern steps down to Royal William Yard a few minutes away past reservoir or by 10 minute walk along the road, watch out for cars!
Old fashioned Cafe with its own car park nearby sells mugs of drink and ice cream
Public toilets close by
Great place to take dog for a scamper but be careful as dangerous currents in the water
S. U.
Great views across to Drake Island and across Plymouth Sound to
Mount Edgecombe. Catch a beautiful sunset there before it rapidly slips down from the horizon
J. T.
Lush place, cafe staff really friendly plus free parking
N. G.
Beautiful area of Plymouth with amazing views, plenty of seating areaa. Great for walking dogs or just for a breath of fresh air.
G. J. (.
I love going to the carpark and simply relax and look out over the Sound and at Drakes Island.
If you want a place to sit back whilst enjoying a delicious drink with a snack, Devil's Point is probably one of the best place to visit.
I have been going to Devil's Point for years as it is one of my most favourite places to relax in.
Please note that the maximum stay limit is now 3 hours with a non return as well.
Remember you will be asked to enter your registration number at the free ticket machine which you need to visit to get your free ticket to display in your windscreen.
D. K.
Really nice view and walk plus lots of restraunts nearby
M. T.
Great spot for makeral fishing at the Tamar River mouth. Best an hour before high tide at the right time of year. If people are already fishing in the area, be polite and return at some other time. Not much space so don't try and squeeze in as this causes line entanglement and is most frustrating and can also cause damage to the sub aqua environment when fishing gear is lost !!!
J. N.
Nice view and dog walk
D. C.
Lovely Firestone Bay area. Great for Swimming and Paddle Boarding. Popular. Nice when Cafe Open. Public Toilets. Parking can be difficult.
J. L.
Lovely spot for a spot of fishing, good vibes, superb views, comradeship aplenty. Everything in our favour on a full moon tide apart from fish... It was unanimous.. We could see fish. Gin clear water but not one fish put its life on the line today.. Tomorrow is another day. Tight lines folks ☺️
H. W.
Some great views whether sunny or stormy. Nice for a short walk about to get some fresh air before stopping at the Royal William Yard for a cuppa or something to eat.
M. M.
Lovely view of the Sound & very peaceful & relaxing. Can walk to Royal William Yard from there down the steps.Have now got a ticket machine ,u can have 3hrs free parking !
g. f.
Great views of Plymouth Sound and Drakes Island
s. t.
Beautiful place to walk with stunning views. Can be very windy at times. Free carpark which is a bonus, especially if you walk down to the Royal William Yard. Dog friendly. Steps.
C. F.
Coffee and a walk perfect view
B. C.
Lovely beauty spot within plymouth, can enjoy a nice short walk down the royal william yard as well. Car park is very busy though so can't always get in but it is free! Some seating areas could be cleaned up next to the sea.
A. C.
Mouth of the River Tamar with Cornwall on the opposite shore. Free parking and the chance to see Royal Navy ships at a distance of 100 yards! Perfect picnic spot with views to Drake's Island and the Breakwater.
S. S.
It is my most favourite place in the world. I have treasured memories even from childhood. Learnt to swim in the pool.
We are so lucky to live in such a wonderful part of the world.
A. F.
The best place to sit and watch the sound
p. b.
Lovely place , bit of an unexpected secret spot. Great place to swim despite the warning signs about the current. Cafe is old school, not so cool if you order a coffee the guy behind the counter, who I presume is the owner, asked if you want sugar and if the answer is yes, dumps a spoonful of white sugar in to the white beaker and presents you with instant coffee. You get my drift? Mind you there is a cool little cafe just down the road towards the Royal William Yard. Check that on out.
D. S.
Lovely here today, slightly windy, but dry.
Car park free for 3 hours and that's a bonus.👍👍👍👍
E. M.
One of the best parts of Plymouth. Fantastic views and a nice place to walk by the sea. Part of England's green and pleasant land
L.
Great views overlooking Plymouth Sound & the Hamoaze. Nice circular walk via Royal William Yard recommended starting at Devils Point FREE car park.
Z. H.
The view from here is fantastic, you can see The Hoe, Mount Battern and The Plymouth Breakwater. There is a ice cream parlour with toilets behind but they're not clean. There is a car park as well as one up the hill a bit more. A nice place to go in the summer if there's nothing to do and everything is closed apart from this fantastic place.
C.
during the day its great picnic venue, come midnight its a great venue for those with a adventurous sexual appetite, many a folk can be seen dogging and taking in the great sea views.
be careful of the tidal forces if you fancy swimming here.
great for Pokemon/Ingress fans aswell
B. C.
Love it up there, love to walk our dog Rik and meet other dog walkers
J. I.
Lovely views across to mount edgecombe .
J. B.
With some of the best views in Plymouth there's a reason devil's point is a favorite place for residents of all ages, its car park and brisk walk allow for an enjoyable stroll, yet at the far end you will find steps to some of the finest dining in Plymouth.
A fantatic way to start a romantic evening .
T. Y.
Always a great place for a swim or visit Royal William yard too
R. B.
Great little spot if you just want to go out for an hour or so and spend no money. Good for dogs and kids alike. Has walks, areas to play football and little places to rockpool ramble
P. S.
We stayed overnight in a motorhome and what an awesome spot it was. Just stunning scenery overlooking the Plymouth Sound, and free!
S. M.
Lovely views and fresh air.
Only downside is the total ignorance of drivers parking in disabled spots showing no blue badge.
C. B.
Along with Mount Wise this is another beautiful natural area and Vista of Plymouth, the Sound and Cornwall and Mount Edgecombe. But, just like Mt Wise, it is an area neglected by the City Father's. Shame on you. The scale of it's popularity can be seen by the car park....which is always busy and always close to full. The No 34 bus provides a service to the area and nearby Royal William Yard from the City centre. And you will have to walk less than 800 metres to get there. There is a little cafe close by ( with so many rules you would think Hitler ran it ! ) which overlooks a swimming pool which is filled naturally by the rise and fall of the tide. There are short walks east and west and seats to sit and take in the view.....and....what a view!! If you like ships of all sizes and shapes then this is the place for you. Huge Trident submarines, aircraft carriers, cross channel ferries, pleasure boats galore all sail by within 200m. Old air raid look out shelters provide enhanced views but in truth they need to be knocked down.....ok by day but the scene of sleeping vagrants and much worse no doubt by night. Don't let that put you off though. And when you have pertaken of the sea air just a stones throw away is Royal William Yard with all its cafe's and restaurants and a trip back to the Barbican Plymouth by boat.....a must visit for holiday makers
B. C.
Beautiful views over the sound and a well known fishing spot. Free, large car park. Not the cleanest place, lots of litter. Not sure it would be the safest place at night.
C. L. H.
Lovely view of the fireworks competition. Only issue is people not knowing how to be courteous when parking! Said people then left all their McDonald's rubbish under their car when leaving.
B. B.
It's got amazing views from multiple angles, access to a small bay and a car park that is usually ram packed
J. H.
A great place for an evening walk.
M.
Could do with car park repaving and more space 🤣 but what do you expect with such fabulous views and FREE PARKING!!
C. A. G.
Lovely dog walk. Never any car parking space available when I get here though. Grab some chips from the hole in the wall and enjoy a walk
m. j.
Lovely views, great history around here. Car park is full by 9am Mon-Fri. As usual lot of McDonald's rubbish. On a slope
A. M.
I am biased. I was born in 84 Durnford Street and as a child spent many hours at Devil's Point. I take a walk along the bay at least once a month. Bit of a shame the Millbay end is closed at the moment but it is still a stunning view. There is a car park, toilet and refreshment kiosk.
N. M.
Beautiful place. A lovely walk or a good swim in the sea. Can't beat Firestone Bay and Devil's Point!
B. P.
Many wives and loved ones have stood at this point for hundreds of years, waving farewell to husbands and lovers whilst they leave to serve on HM ships.
P. B.
Beautiful views of Plymouth sound and surrounding area.
S.
Stunning views of Plymouth Sound and nice, short walks. Devil's Point has a small cafe, free parking and access to nearby Royal William Yard via a staircase.
If you are new to Plymouth, it is well worth a visit.
M. B.
Great place, being devil worshippers we were thrilled to find a place to practise our black arts, sadly during the blood sacrifice some of our members were arrested, why dedicate an area for us and then arrest us for doing our "thing", still we had enough time to turn the local constabulary into chickens, drumstick anyone?
K. L.
I am relatively new to Plymouth and finally visited devils point recently. I could not believe the incredible panoramic view. Quite Breathtaking and a great place for all the family young and old. If you come to Plymouth you have to take a look .
D. A.
Great views of Drakes Island and Plymouth sound. Also car park is free, and you can walk down to Royal William Yard.
P. O.
I grow up playing in pool
s. s.
Love this place
P. T.
Nice view, car park a bit small spaces for disabled over looking Drakes island
S. B.
You can do a lovely walk around devils point and also the william yard the one promblem is parking at devils point only a small car park so you have to pay 2-00 pay and display at william yard
R. B.
It's a beautiful bit of Scenery all around you there
K. H.
Nice place for a casual stroll. Or just to sit and watch the ships in the sound. Beach and out door pool to swim.
A. W.
Excellent views of Plymouth Sound, watching ships sailing passed, on their way to Devonport dockyard, also sailing out to Plymouth Sound. This is RFA Tiderace sailing passed Drake's Island.
P. B.
Alot nicer since all the bushes have been maintained, can see the lovely views at last
T. P.
Great day out with kids. Kids play area been revamped since last visit much nicer. Cafe nearby with seating. Public toilets clean and tidy.
J. D.
Kids really enjoyed the sights but I was not brave enough to go in the sea pool for a swim
T. J.
Peaceful place to sit and watch ships come in and out. I personally go there to think. Night time bit different, Billy boys and their stupid Corsa's 😂 other than that lovely place
D. B.
Beautiful scenery , spoilt by lack of parking space due to those visiting Royal William yard and not wanting to pay the parking fee down there so using Devil point car park for free
A. B.
Lovely open space to sit and enjoy sea views, cafe serving food and drinks an added bonus
K. S.
Devil's point usually good for bass and fish in general
A. B.
Love this place. Care park was busy. It's near Royal William Yard and just past the Cremel Ferry.
P. N.
Nice views. Local cafes and restaurants. Parking sometimes difficult as always busy.
G. B.
Lovely views and good place for a walk and drink coffee
S. R.
Nice for a short walk. A little cafe. Very rocky along the coast line.
s. i.
Lovely place to park up and people watch
R. P.
Went there so my wife could go for a swim, and yes she had her swim. It was very crowded.
P. D.
Lovely place to go but for me next time I go will be summer as was to windy and clod
F. H.
Beautiful landscape, free parking and some of the best views in Plymouth
T. r.
Wet and windy today. The car park was fill of cars as it's a popular free walkers/dog walkers spot.
J. T.
Always a beautiful place to visit regardless of the weather. One of my favourite places I visit at lest once a month if not more.
A. W.
A wonderful viewing point for Plymouth Sound and Drake's Island, especially after dark.

G. D.
Staff helpful and cheerful throughout store.
L. G.
Lovely vantage point plty that people are using it rather than paying for parking in the Royal William Yard, maybe it's time the was charge made for Devils Point.
