Reviews of Sutton Harbour
c. l.
Plymouth's historic waterfront - a mixture of ancient & modern buildings, a working dock and leisure marina, cafes bars & restaurants. Beautiful
K. S.
Great harbour with lots of bars and restaurants. Perfect for a walk along the waterside.
J. M.
Great place to wander round, get coffee or lunch and just watch the boats and yachts moving around. On a hot day it's like it's not England (and there's more food options than fish and chips like you find in Brighton). Fantastic views out to sea.
J. j. (.
Nice quiet place to walk around, there are some good cafe's,bars and restaurants to visit .
l. c.
Plenty of things to do down near sutton harbour. Plenty of places to grab something to eat or drink. Lots of tourist attractions.
N. E.
We have a sailing yacht here called Sea pigeon. The harbour is well protected and no swell from the sea. Power and water next to the boats. Parking next to the entrance. Easy access to the barbican.
B. W.
Very interesting walk covering a lot of history a walking map is available from the tourist office.
N. S.
Simply the best marina in Plymouth! A fantastic setting, right in the Barbican surrounded by pubs and eateries. A great place to eat, drink, see and be seen. The marina itself is secure and protected from the sea by a lock, so no worries about stormy weather. My boat is right underneath the Plymouth Prawn aka "The Leviathan", you couldn't pick a better setting. The staff are very friendly, nothing is too much trouble. Why go anywhere else?
r. m.
cracking little place with some nice bar's and restaurants
B. W.
Sutton Marina is one of the best anywhere, with excellent staff & amenities, however, very expensive.
M. S.
Despite the dull weather Plymouth and it's harbour is still a nice place to visit.
T. R.
Great atmosphere and a variety of lovely eating places.
r. c.
Great marina my friend has had a boat there for years
d. c.
Very pleasant environment for city centre experience in a traditional style with waterfront experiences
J. A.
Lovely place. I enjoyed the boat excursion.
R. W.
Have kept boats in half a dozen marinas and this is probably the best. Right in the middle of town with loads of excellent places to eat nearby as well as supermarkets within easy walking distance. Friendly helpful staff, sheltered from the weather by a large lock with quick turnarounds. Good facilities too.
I. M.
The marina is very active and those working there are always helpful and will check on your boat if you're worried whilst away. It's situated on Plymouth's historic Barbican with loads of places to see locally and some great restaurants. I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking to berth their boat in an idyllic setting with a lovely backdrop. The entire harbour complex is beautiful. Sit and watch the world go by.
Special thanks to berthing master Paul. Very knowledgeable and friendly - definitely has my vote for employee of the year!
P. L.
Pilgrims ice cream shop, lovely!
S. H.
Nice quiet place to relax.
N. P.
Enjoyed a Jasperiser at Captain Jasper's and enjoyed the view of the harbour..
P. R. C. A. B.
A great marina competitively priced in the heart of the city. Protected by an all state of tide lock.
A. M.
A sun trap when the weather is good, and is a chilled and perfect setting for a pint while sitting in the beer garden of the new steak house that was once The China House.
A view that makes you truly appreciate Plymouth and it's claim of being an 'Ocean City'. Highly recommended!
S. H.
This place is my total favorite place to be. Went for a coffee with my son and his friend at Captain Jaspers. If it wasnt for the fact my sons friend had an appointment, id probably still be sat there now! Its just so beautiful, relaxing and awesome on Plymouths Barbican. Love it so much.
S. T.
It's a really nice marina with views out to the Citadel and the main part of the Barbican from one side and views of the Aquarium and the Miller and Carter, whose building has a long balcony sitting over the water. The only negative is a lack of parking as most of the harbour is dedicated permit parking.
C. S.
Nice place to go if you like to fantasise over owning a boat. Lots of nice boats to look at but none you can afford if you live the low life. I understand there are free showers etc available if you berth there.
A. P.
Annual visit in my boat, usual warm welcome from Mark and his team. We needed to work on the boat and found the staff most helpful. Proximity to all the chandlers as well as the best restaurants an important factor.
J. J. J.
On a sunny day very tranquil and relaxing.
P. W.
Historic place and working harbour, marina, aquarium with plenty of things to watch and many restaurants, shops. Able to walk all way round. Boat excursions to various destinations. Site of many expeditions and yachting races departures including Mayflower steps. Occasionally seals, exhibitions and fair.
K. M.
I needed a place to shelter from impending bad weather in my sailing boat recently and had never experienced a Lock System for entry and exit but it is easy and once inside very calm. The staff are excellent and being right down by the Barbican in Plymouth it is perfect for easy exploration of this historic part of the city. Good facilities too!😀⛵️🛥🚤⛽️🚽🚿☕️ laundry and WiFi
S. M.
Idyllic views of the boats and marina and even out to sea. Lots of places to eat and relax. Toilet and shower facilities were very clean. Plymouth hoe not far either. Very enjoyable stay ☺
J. B.
Gorgeous setting, quiet, peaceful, friendly, and helpful staff. 2 well-maintained, high quality shower blocks, power, electricity, and great central city location without the noise (I lived on a boat here for 2 years)
S. T.
I love Sutton Harbour. It's often overlooked because of the nearby Barbican, but there are several places to eat and drink, lots of history and you can walk along the harbour side (my personal favourite).
A. R.
I wouldn't actually call it Sutton Harbour, it's better know as The Barbican, lovely place to visit plenty of bars and restaurants to tickle your fancy, plenty of art and antique shops, The Mayflower Steps is situated on the Barbican, this is where the Mayflower set sail to America in 1620.
P.
Lovely harbour with some nice restaurants. Great place to walk around to see all the boats. Not far from the Barbican, the Hoe and even the centre of Plymouth is within walking distance.
M. M.
It's worth 5 stars for the buzz of the place,I know it's changed alot, from what it use to be, some forty years ago, now lots of tourists and obviously well-heeled students, a variety of pubs and places to eat, well worth a visit and then, there are the fishing boats, and the going and coming of pleasure craft, sit, have a drink and watch the world go by.
D. H.
Do you like boats? If you do this has a lot of them! Its like a car park! but instead of cars it has lots and lots of boats!! You would think they would call it a "Boat Park" but its actually called a Harbour. Do you like the sea? Well this Harbour has a bit of that as well!! Amazing! The boats actually sit on the sea!! Like a set of swaying Buddhist Bean Bags or floating cars.
E. H.
The aquarium was a really good place for the family. The shopping center is really nice and is home to many well-known stores. I'd recommend it to everyone.
D. P.
A great place to visit, many places to eat and drink, boat trips, great views of the sea. It's a really nice place for a walk when the weather is good.
G.
Lovely place to come out for a sunset dinner or even a quick bite for lunch. As you ear or wonder around the harbour you can see the lovely sites and workings of Plymouth.
S. G.
CHANDLERS .BISTRO.
Situated off Queen Anne,s Battery Cattedown. Plymouth .
This bistro and location has breath taking views across Plymouth Sound and Mountbatten and beyond . As a regular visitor , the scenic views add to the pleasant ambience , mine host Katie Inch .adds a pinch of her personality to the extensive menu .
D. S.
Sutton Harbour is the area just past the Mayflower Steps.
On a sunny day this area is packed and wonderful. Lots of boats and photo opportunities
S. E.
Walked along here, the area is always clean and tidy, and has a beautiful arrange of flower beds and plenty of boats moored up.
B. C.
Love going for walks around Sutton Harbour its so beautiful and theres something lovely about it in the winter when its cold and the suns setting and you can sit out with a coffee and enjoy the world passing by
J. D.
Absolutely lovely walk, rain or shine. Of course if you enjoy crowds, summers or weekends/holidays will be best.
K. S.
Berthed here for 7-8 years now, best place in Plymouth. Very sheltered in winter. Great accommodating staff and a good atmosphere
P. T.
Because the foot bridge is closed between the barbican and the national marine aquarium in Plymouth, there I sa small ferry service across Sutton-in-Ashfield -Harbour .The staff are very friendly and a small charge can be redeemed in the aquarium for use in the shop or cafe .
J. D.
Really good cafe overlooking the harbour. The owner comes from Launceston and as it's my old stamping ground...I'm in full support of his enterprise! 👍
L. P.
Very pretty town .lovely .lively night life seating in most bars exterior with heaters over head

This is a top rated marina with the best facilities. Also very handy for the shops and chandlers. A little more expensive but well worth a stay.
A. O.
