I have experienced back, neck and shoulder pain flare ups for many years. I have been to some excellent chiropractors over the years but I wanted to take some action that would be much longer lasting, and that's when I met Sam, and she has been fantastic! Sam combines an understanding of the science of pain, with strategies to relieve pain, and exercises which build strength for longer lasting effects. She is so passionate about her work and makes the sessions interesting and fun; the hour just flies by. The pain is so much better than it has been for years, and I am able to do the exercises I didn't think I could, because previously they caused long term pain. Thank you so much Sam

I went to see Sam as I had been suffering from a combination of lower back, hip and knee pain for many years. I had spent a fortune on various physiotherapists and chiropractors but nothing helped in the long term. Through a combination of education about pain, treatment and an ongoing and changing exercise plan, Sam managed to identify the root of the problem and I am now working on my own, using the tools she has given me in our sessions, and continuing to make progress. The pain hasn't completely gone but I understand it and I believe that with continued work it will be a minor issue. I am now sleeping without aching joints most nights and have just completed a challenging 40 mile section of the South West Coast Path with NO knee pain, which is incredible.

I contacted Sam back in the Summer of 2021 for help regarding my lower back and problems with walking and stability. She helped me understand the origins of pain and how it could be managed, also came up with novel exercises to help my lower back and pelvis area which i had not encountered before. Bearing in mind I have been consulting health professionals (physiotherapists , chiropractors, doctors & osteopaths for over 40 years, for the same problems, this was very refreshing and helpful. I had 8 sessions with her and am now trying to put in practice what she has taught me. I expect to return for further sessions once i have mastered and benefited from this first level.

What a super start Sam is. When I first went to see Sam I was very sceptical, as nothing I’d tried before ever gave me pain relief or helped my mobility. I have severe S shaped scoliosis, arthritis and fibromyalgia. We started by setting some practical goals like, to be able to get up myself off the floor, to improve my stamina and to relieve some pain. Together we learnt more about fibromyalgia and understood my body, it’s limitations and what was achievable. Sam sourced an excellent book about those living with constant pain. Week on week I was making improvements and growing in confidence. I met all my goals and beyond. Now I have joined the gym to continue the program on my own! I am not afraid to try exercises now because I know to start small and build gradually. By other peoples standards I’m not hitting high targets but to me it’s been a life changer. I know how to be the best I can be, and have the confidence and faith in myself to not give up. I can’t thank Sam enough. She was so understanding and kind, but firm which I needed. Sam had the knowledge to explain how to improve and get over hurdles. Her innovative thinking certainly came in handy, to always find a practical way forward when exercises seemed initially to be beyond my capabilities. Needless to say I would not hesitate to recommend Sam to others.

In October 2020, when training at circus school, I suffered a minor shoulder injury which, due to the volume of my training, escalated very quickly. Convinced I had done major damage, I underwent scans (which showed no tissue damage) and a course of physiotherapy which helped a little but after a few months I was still experiencing a lot of discomfort. After numerous failed therapies and diagnoses, I was left feeling frustrated and too scared to move my shoulder or do any exercise at all. I first met Sam in February 2021 when I had been suffering with the shoulder pain for 6 months. After a thorough examination, she explained to me that although there was no tissue damage, what I was experiencing was the memory of pain and a fear / avoidance cycle. I found it difficult to believe that I could be in so much pain when there was no tissue damage present and have to admit that I was sceptical of the approach that treating brain is the first step to treating the pain. It wasn't for another few months that I decided to embark on the 12-week program with Sam and I am mighty glad that I did!
During each session, Sam taught me about the causes of my pain and equipped me with a pain relief 'tool-box' to use when I was experiencing it. We slowly started to work towards movements that I thought I would never be able to do again and built up my confidence and strength. In a matter of weeks, I noticed dramatic reductions in pain flare-ups and confident in the knowledge that it was 'safe' to exercise, started challenging my shoulder to perform movements that I had avoided for so long. 6 months later and I am handstanding, climbing, boxing, training trapeze and still with Sam's guidance, working towards pull ups and press ups. When I do experience a flare up, I know how to manage it and can always consult Sam if I am worried. In my experience, Sam has done so much for me than just treat my shoulder. She has guided me through a particularly turbulent time, fully supported me on my journey, always been there to listen and helped me to totally reframe my approach to training. Without her help, I have no doubt that I would still be living in a pain cycle and not living my life to the full. I would urge anyone experiencing chronic pain to reach out to Sam and experience her way of working. Her approach is refreshing, thorough and never without a sense of humour! In six months, I have transitioned from anxious, scared and sensitive, to resilient, strong and determined. Thank you Sam and the Back To Roots Community !

After almost 20 years of persistent back pain, and having visited masseurs, doctors etc., I had a chance meeting with Sam through my local golf club. I had this thought that a chiropractor meant bone-cruncher, but how wrong can you be.
I have just completed a 12 week course with Sam, where I have been shown strategies for relieving pain involving exercises, educated into what influences pain, and the benefits of regularly exercising all parts of the body, not just the few you might fancy. It has been hard work at times, so you must stick to the plan. I have improved in most areas of fitness and my balance, which has been an issue, has improved no end and it has been great fun.
I would certainly recommend Sam to anyone with a prevailing condition: my overall message would be "Don't knock it until you have tried it"

I’ve been coming to Sam’s stretching and mobility class for a good few months now, and I can definitively recommend it to anyone wanting to work on their flexibility! Sam is such a lovely and bubbly person and makes sure all the classes are fun and personalised to each individuals abilities! As someone who’s historically had the flexibility of a brick, and works all day on a computer, I’ve definitely seen an improvement in my general day to day health with back aches significantly less common. The class has a really laid back environment, so if you’re on the fence come and have a go as you won’t be pressured into anything you don’t want to do!

I have done and even taught Yoga for years but I have never fully lengthened and stretched the way Sam has got me to! Sam has such an incredible amount of knowledge and expertise, it's like talking to a doctor who fully understands how to stretch and look after your body. Sam is very approachable and friendly with an expert eye for detail. I highly recommend Sam.

Came to Sam to work on hip, back and leg mobility and strength in full range of motion and the results were showing after the first 2 sessions! Followed the program build and set out by Sam and she took me though all the steps and movements needed as well as aftercare after each session with email updates and extra videos to watch. Highly recommend!

I had a series of sessions with Sam over a period of several months to assist with an injury. The treatment I received was outstanding and professionally delivered. I would thoroughly recommend Sam as a musculoskeletal clinician.

Sam is a brilliant clinician who really takes the time to understand issues and figure out the reasons behind pain as well as taking the time to design a comprehensive program that will rectify the issues and make you stronger. She is a fountain of knowledge and clearly very much knows her stuff - I would recommend her to anyone!
