Reviews of RSPB Consall Woods
L. W.
Beautiful place in ALL seasons and all weather! Plenty of parking and good to have the toilets there too.
M. S.
Great place to park and walk down to the station, loved the station and stopped for a drink in the nearby pub
D. E.
Lovely day out. Lots of marked trails with different routes and lengths to do. Very well posted so u can't get lost. Great for dogs.
V. G.
A number of different walks to follow. We followed the white trail but think we went off key a little. Nevermind we had a wonderful view over the Churnet Valley. It is recommended you wear trainers or appropriate footware if you decide to walk the white or purple route. Definitely recommend for a nice afternoon walk in the fresh air.
S. H.
It's always gorgeous here, what ever the weather what ever the season! Plenty of birds and wildlife, different walks to suit different abilities, and a great place to walk dogs too!
C. H.
Beautiful place I love to come here as it's right on my doorstep. There is a choice of walks to do and the scenery is wonderful.
G. M.
Lovely place to walk, even on a rainy muddy Sunday morning..loved it been coming here for years and never disappointed
p. t.
Great area for a walk. There are easy to more difficult walks to do and, loads of wildlife
M. W.
Beautiful nature park, with easy scenic walks.
Great for all ages and dogs. With a nice pub a bit further down the road.
T. H.
Beautiful spot with a fantastic array of woodland walks to keep the kids and adults satisfied.
Ł. W.
Very nice walk through woods. Variety of terrain.
g. h.
Lovely walk and the kids loved exploring. A few different routes to choose from and already planning the next walk.
a. h.
Lovely walks , nature at its best. 🌿🌳
N. P.
Autumn walk through the woods and along the canal. Always delivers.
R. H.
It was wet when I went but still had a picnic, would like to go on a dry day.
S. P.
Beautiful area to walk around and appreciate nature. Great pub- the Black Lion down in the valley serves brilliant food and real ales for after.
S. L.
Lovely park and walks. Visited on a wet day and the paths were very very muddy, wellies or boots recommended. Lovely walks some of which have amazing views. Lots of wildlife to encounter and theres a pub en route!
Great for the dogs and there are toilets on site, not the best but if you're desperate!
A favourite spot of ours close to home and free.
A.
Now RSPB and facilities are better and toilets seem to be open regularly, previously they were often closed. A good size, free, car park. There are a few different length walks which are marked out and easy to follow. There are a few pools which have good paths if you want a shorter walk. It's only a short walk to the canal as well. Beautiful area and lots of wildlife. It can be quite muddy, particularly if you're walking into the valley.
R. L. (. D.
Lovely park, lots of nature to see, dragon flies and damsel flies by the water. There are 3 different walks you can take with coloured post along the way to help you navigate. Take a photo of the map by the car park.
Enjoy, we did
j. g.
Never been here before, a choice of 4 walks, absolutely beautiful place, definitely go there again
d. s.
Lovely little walk, there is a good sized carpark and toilets and there are different lengths of walk from 30 mins to 2hrs with a pub atvthe end (we didnt go that far).would recommend though.
J. P.
Lovely walk with beautiful surroundings. Cosy pub
S. C.
Beautiful scenery with numerous walks.
J. w.
Amazing place for walks and family 2 loveley lakes with loads of wildlife
S. H.
Lovely location and walk but unfortunately the paths are extremely muddy and handrails tired and broken in places.
C. G.
Love walking here. There is parking on the visitor centre (which is currently closed), there are 3-4 walks you can do, the green walk is a gentle walk and takes 20-30mins, the next level up is the Red walk which takes around an hour, followed by the white walk which takes around an hour & a half. There is a purple walk and this is an extension of the white walk, this is around an additional half an hour. The harder the route, the higher the climb and there are some incredible views over the churnet valley.
The photo attached is the brochure which goes into more detail.
Highly recommended for a beautiful walk and it is also close to the Black Lion at Consall which is an added bonus!
M. W.
Lovely and peaceful setting, toilets, car park, dog poo bibs could do with emptying.
L. H.
There are three walks around the park. These can be downloaded from their website. There is a visitor centre. Unfortunately this was not open when we visited. There was no opening times visible. The car park was free. There are toilets. There needs to be more dog bins.
P. M.
Lovely walk. Different routes to take. We too ths red one which took around an hour. Lots of different wildlife, peacocks, birds, squirrels. Area is litter free and many seating areas to take a break and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
S. B.
Beautiful place to walk with the dogs ... Lots of tidying work going .. Would appreciate there being more Dog poo bins , as it may help people from dumping them .
L. S.
Lovely place for a walk, the paths are well set out and the routes well signed. Some areas are more challenging than others!
D. F.
Some lovely woodland walks with trails from 1 to 3 miles. Its located around a deep valley so in some places it's quite steep but stout shoes or trainers are fine to walk in - we're not talking crampons. Its very peaceful with only the birds twittering. There are no facilities and currently (May 25th 2020) officially closed by the RSPB due to Covid-19 restrictions. Dogs are required to be kept on leads to avoid disturbing ground nesting birds.
M.
Go walk, explore and have a picnic. Free parking and toilets.
l. g.
Lovely place to walk the dog with varied terrain and scenery, just a shame the loos are locked. A few benches dotted around the main paths and plentiful parking, the entry road is a little narrow.
N. R.
The park was lovely. The pub near the train track, canal and river was very bed. Over cooked greasy chips. Cheese n onion bap filled with white stodge. No vegan options. No veggie on BBQ. Very little food. Did not open to 12 mid day. dozen people waiting.
Wil NOT return to Consall Black Lion but will return to park with a packed lunch. You live n learn
P. M.
A Quaint Nature Park. Difficult to find. Harder to find the car park. Not marked. Uneven roads. Free car park. Once parked, a nice woodland walk to discover. Varied lengths, and colour coded posts to follow. Fishing lakes. Can be muddy in places. Well worth a visit.
M. g.
So glad the rspb have taken over. Closed at the moment but the disabled toilets and car park are still in use. Stayed in the car park and got some nice wildlife pics. I saw a sign saying donations in the blue box but couldn't see the blue box. As usual, dog walkers spoil it by dumping their poo bags there. Why pick it up?
A. I.
Very well maintained footpaths. Even in the winter it's very pretty. A lovely, peaceful walk in nature. No cafe, but plenty of parking. Ranger presence.
A. H.
Great for walk or good just watching the wild life good car park but it can get busy. Dog Must be kept on a lead to protect the wild life.
p. s.
Need to be fit to do white path as we made this mistake as it was our first visit but we did manage the white path just about!
60 year old with bad knee's was not wise.
G. B.
Stunning nature. Nice steam train.
D. S.
Excellent walking area for wildlife & railway enthusiasts.
Access for the disabled, with easy walking along canalside (alongside the river and railway), or more strenuous paths through the woodlands.
A. M.
Lots of free parking, excellent walks, long and short. Beautiful countryside and you can walk to the black lion pub which has plenty of real.ales.
A. L.
Lovely place for families. Lots of birds to see. Toilet is clean.
M. L.
Beautiful, calm and quiet place. My wife and kid loves the area.
D. M. H.
Free parking. Dog loves it. Lots of different walks. A favourite of ours and regular visitors
A. P.
Love this place. Lots of different walks through the valley and surrounding hills. Lovely place to have a picnic and play with the kids. Great place to walk the dog.
E. M.
Shame the toilet facilities were out of action. Lots of people came but turned away. No mention of where the nearest ones were. Needs to have this basic facility. Excellent base for a walk & well kept paths.
E. G.
Lovely place to go for a walk. Normally quiet which is nice. Amazing picnic space and free car park.
c. t.
Great walk saw lots of birds
L. B.
Beautiful, quiet place to walk. Some big climbs and steep descents on some routes. Always space to park.
J. L.

S. B.
Beautiful location we walked along a trail that was supposed to take 1 hour but we spent over 2 hours there as the kids just loved being there and out in the woods
J. G.
Lovely drive in , good parking , tranquil nice walks and woodland .Plenty of space , take a picnic.
S. M.
Gorgeous spot, pleasant walks around the ponds or longer hikes through the lush woodland. Must be beautiful too in autumn.
A. R.
Lovely area, green lawns, woods and foot paths. Big problem: facilities currently (05.2018) unavailable. Building with alleged toilets, shop etc. was locked.
M. M. R. A.
A nice enjoyable walk with friends to the pub and back. Very quiet for a hot bank holiday weekend. It's a pity the visitor centre is closed
b. H.
Love it! Quiet, easy or more challenging walks, river, canal, railway and great pub! What else can you ask for
J. J.
Really nice place for a walk. Lots of woods to walk round, but can be quite hilly at times
h. w.
Brilliant place to go for a good walk.
Some of the areas abit neglected.
Toilet facilities were not available
A. H.
There are three great walks you can take from here, all of which help you explore this wooded valley which has a lot more industrial history than people think.
P. m.
