Just completed my level 3 Engineering qualification with Semester, this was my first time doing any type of distance learning and after a slow start I did start to get the hang of it.
I feel the standard of tutors greatly improved towards the end of my course, with Jess and Paul F helping whenever i had a question, often giving me additional help sheets and practice questions to make sure i had a full understanding before i took the assignment.
I do believe some of the learning material could be improved and tailored more towards the assignments. Some of the best material was in the IT comms unit where Scott would voice over a presentation, compared to some of the videos in other units which i feel didn't cover what the assignments were asking. However, the material has improved over the 2.5 years I spent on the course.
If you are looking to gain a qualification via distance learning i would recommend Semester Learning. Personally for me I discovered I learn better in a classroom type environment rather then on my own, this is only a personal preference and nothing against Semester.
Thank you to Scott, Eleanor, Jess and Paul for all their help over the past 2.5 years.

Recently finished my Level 3 Extended NVQ in Engineering Maintenance - Electrical. The course was well structured and easy to understand. The OneFile system was very easy to use. Anyone working in an engineering environment and wanting a Lvl3 qualification should definitely give Semester Learning a look. The staff were very helpful and quick to reply to all questions. A very very good course and set up.

Started my NVQ With Semester back in June last year. It has been something I've been meaning to do for a long time and Semester was fantastic from start to finish. All of my coursework and modules were online, but my assessor, Paul Fryer was only a phone call away in case I had any questions. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who wants to further their careers and gain a qualification. It's opened so many doors for me now, this has been a great experience.

Completed my BTEC Level 3 in Engineering.
It is really well run and there is a lot of support. If you ever email with any issues they respond really quickly and are so helpful.
The tutors are really supportive.
I would recommend Semester Learning to anyone who has full time commitments but wants to study.

Having previously done my studying in the classroom, I was apprehensive with distance learning but credit to Scott and Paul. F for a very professional and friendly approach. I've now finished my level 3 which will allow me to go for the potential jobs I'm looking at. At times I found some units difficult but Paul was always on the other end of the phone to provide me with the solution. Highly recommend Semester if your thinking about gaining the qualifications you need to progress

I undertook a Level 3 Certificate in Engineering with an additional unit giving me four units in total to study. This was my first experience at online learning with the course itself being well structured incorporating a good range of resource materials at hand for further study. Tutors were generally very responsive to any messages/queries and assessments were marked with feedback at a very good rate also. Many thanks.

I have young children, full time job and little time for anything else, so going to college was out of the question. At work I have reached a ceiling, but unfortunately without the right qualification, moving up was difficult.
So I contacted Semester learning and after a brief chat with Scott I was more than convinced this is the right way forward.
They have arranged a payment plan which suited me fine, it was spread over the duration of the course and it was direct debited from my bank at a date of my choosing.
I haven’t done any form of education for the past 15-20 years, so getting back to it was slightly difficult, at the start , my time management wasn’t on point, but semester learning provided all the tools to manage myself throughout the course.
Slowly i started focusing more, and paying attention to what was needed to be done, I began to understand the right way of self study & how to pace myself.
I’m not going to sit here and pretend the journey was easy, at times I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel and other times i was moving on swiftly.
The team was at hand every step of the way, through email or telephone and if an assignment is returned for the feedback was clear and concise, and they helped in every turn.
Semester learning has a wonderful moodle system and the ONE-FILE E-Portfolio learning Hub is second to none .
I finally completed the course and couple of weeks later i received my certificate and had it added to my portfolio at work.
I would like to thank the whole team at semester for all the support and patience they have shown me along this journey, if you ask me if I would do it again with them I would say YES.

Semester provided the opportunity to top up my UCAS points at a pace that suited my own circumstances.
The provision of a dedicated tutor was a great benefit that ensured l was able to complete work to my best ability. The individual feedback in particular was very beneficial.
Anyone looking for a safety net to ensure they get the grades required could do a lot worse then considering Semester.
Highly recommended

Just got my certificate for my level 3 NVQ engineering maintenance electrical, the course was easy to follow and help was always there when needed with quick response times and quick marking of assessments. My only issue was it took 3 months to receive my certificate after completing the course. If you work full time and can't attend college and are working in the industry this is a great option thanks Semester learning.

I completed an NVQ level 3 course back in January.
The actual course and how it was delivered was excellent , efficient, easy to navigate and do what I had to do . My personal contact for the Course I found very easy to deal with, helpful easy to get a hold of and prompt through the process. I would certainly recommend him and would request him should I undertake any further courses , Paul Fryer ..
I have only just received my qualification in total I had to wait 5 months to receive it . I felt a little let down because I had to chase for any information regarding the delay and it was only near the end of the wait for this that they explained the reasons in full for the delay . They could have been a little more forthcoming with updates when it was taking so long as I said I had to chase every few weeks never hearing anything unless I did.
Overall a good quality company giving a good service.
Would recommend and would use again if needed but kind of let themselves down a little with the after service. I think the situation with Restrictions, lockdowns etc had a lot to do with it .

The course I took was the L3 BTEC HN bridging course which gives you the units required to help you get on to a HNC which is my eventual plan after a short break.
This was the first time I had done any distance learning and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of resources and learning material available. Most of the tutors were incredibly good with their feedback and support. (The only reason I say most not all is because a couple of questions asked were not replied to. However this could have been the nature of the question I am not sure)
The only criticism I may have is I found the wording of some of the questions can be interpreted in different ways resulting in different answers but as I said the feedback and response from the tutors is great. My advice would be if you are unsure ask.
I would highly recommend this course for anyone looking for a starting block to get into engineering. It has also helped me greatly in my work as a Quality technician which I started the same time I started the course after being a spray painter for 10 years. My ability with software like excel have increased greatly thanks to this course.
If you are unsure whether you should spend the money and take this course I say do it. Whether you are looking to get into a specific engineering field or not I have found you can apply this knowledge to most jobs.

The best education/training provider I have used. My assessor (Scott) was always responsive when contacted and provided constructive feedback on my work, which allowed me to complete the course much faster than I expected. Any issues I had were dealt with on a one to one basis and my overall experience was excellent.

I signed up for the Level 3 BTEC in ICT Principles course, taking in modules ranging from networking to building a computer system. The initial module selection proved challenging, given that there are many modules to choose from and due to the way Pearson have prepared the units you cannot have them all at once!
Semester offer their online study materials through Moodle, as well as the course reading list offered by the syllabus. The course content is based on online video with the occasional web article. There are also quizzes in some sections that you need to complete before you can move to the next section/request an assignment.
Assignments are allocated per section and have a 2-week deadline; only the study materials are self-paced. This is managed through OneFile, an online portfolio and evidence system where you can track all your progress. For the assignments you have to prepare a mixture of leaflets, booklets, handouts, reports and videos. Marking time is usually around 5 working days.
All in all, I learned many new things on this course as well as refreshing knowledge from past courses with local colleges - it's important to be up to date with new developments in a field such as computing. Not only that but I have upgraded my dad’s 10-year-old PC with new components, giving it a new lease of life with the new knowledge I have gained!
Semester also have a number of engineering courses on their portfolio too, so there is something for everyone.
I certainly look forward to putting my knowledge to good use in the future and will certainly look to consider other courses in due course.
Many thanks to all at Semester!

I have just completed my Business Administration Level 3 Diploma with Semester. i have been most impressed with their willingness to help me not only progress with my coursework, but also help me progress in my career. I couldn't recommend them highly enough

I studied with Semester on a BTEC Computing and IT course. Throughout my time studying with Semester I had study resources available, including quizzes , videos and interactive material along with external links to other reading material already out there. On some of my assessmentsI had to redo them with extensions on some and they had no problem with. They look after you when you have a query or question and respond quickly when you need help. I would highly recommend them to anyone, they have been nothing but great with me, and the kindness of them allowing me to try again on some of my assignments. I appreciate it greatly, they are also improving the company with new systems including an Assignment Request Form which makes it easier to ask for an assignment. Thanks guys, appreciate it alot!

Completed the Level 3 BTEC in Engineering with Semester.
I was dubious at the beginning the course, I'd never done online learning before nor did I know anyone who had tried it and going into something new especially when paying for it can be a daunting experience. However, I was welcomed into the course and was able to start straight away which was great for me as at the time I was available to study straight away. That's one of the best things about online learning you can pick up where you left off, you're not pressured in to doing work and you can do it at your own pace, that being said you do get deadlines once you've asked for an assignment just like any education program. During the entirety of this course I have been in full time employment so this ease and flexibility is so valuable and something that I think is needed if you plan on working alongside as I did.
At the beginning of the course we had a few teething problems which have since been fixed and on reflection I think that there were perfectly acceptable after all online learning is, and I think Semester as a company was, a fairly new system of education and I was brand new to it myself so the odd mistake here and there was expected. The tutors were very professional during the whole process and I think this made any problems we had much easier to work through, as the course progressed it was clear that things were becoming much more seamless and everything just seemed to work as it should in an ideal world.
The course its self wasn't easy, but the resources given to the students definitely help progression and provide a great understanding to those learning. I dare say one of the main problems during the course was myself; I would spend hours looking for information or software, basically wasting my time then I would ask one of the tutors and have the information I needed straight away, so my one recommendation would be to ask, treat this as any other course online or not and understand that the tutor are there to help and that's exactly what they'll do, they'll help you. I honestly don't believe online learning would be possible without the right tutors and thankfully for me I took a gamble when picking Semester, just like I would have picking any other provider, but for me it paid off and personally wouldn't consider it a risk or gamble for anyone else to take after my experience.
Overall the course took me longer to complete than I wanted and this was mostly down to my own time restraints and probably my own attitude as there was no rush for me to complete it due to my own personal life. I would say it is possible to complete this course in about 6 months if you push yourself.
The whole of the course was an enjoyable experience, you have to be self motivated and doing this course has certainly taught me that. Having the drive to jump on to the computer after working all day is hard work, but I wouldn't let that put you off doing it, it is defiantly achievable and its probably not as hard as you think it will be. I am now ready to move onto my next step of education and I would be lying if I said I wasn't considering continuing with Semester Learning to study for the HNC in Engineering.
I would definitely recommend Semester Learning for anyone looking to further their education, all you need is a bit of spare money and time, a laptop and an internet connection, the rest is all self motivation and drive.
