Reviews of Blists Hill Victorian Town
R. H.
Wow what two days. We got there for an early morning visit. Then found out we would have to use the lift for my wife's scooter only I forgot she does not like lift's. So out again up a steep incline and the batteries go completely dead. So have to pack up and go find some batteries. Too expensive. so try the next day on another scooter good job we bought two. But anyway the day turned out to be absolutely great. From being met by the on duty policeman who wanted me to buy a licence for our dog which I did. to all the staff on duty and in the shops who helped my wife on her Scooter a BIG thank you. The site is very clean and tidy quite spread out and steep in one place. Don't be frightened to ask any questions you have or just talk to staff they love it. And do change your money the younger kids love it and you can change it back at the end. The disabled parking bays are next to the entrance and the queue of people seem to queue behind the cars instead of on the paths???.
K. L.
We love coming here. There is plenty to see and do. Make sure you get your old money from the back first before going into the shop just makes it more fun. You can then change the money back. The staff are really helpful and are happy to talk with you about the times. You can get fresh baked breads etc and Fish and Chips then a pint in the pub. It is just great.

Great day out at this recreated Victorian town. Plenty of shops and businesses to visit, all created in their original 19th century style. Many are staffed by very informative and helpful staff dressed in the costumes of the period. Two cafes on site for a range of food and drink. Great place to take kids in the summer holidays.
G. P.
Fantastic day out for the whole family. If you bring a pram, just make sure the wheels can take a bit of rough-ish terrain. Everyone we interacted with throughout our visit was friendly and very knowledgeable. The fish and chips were delicious and sweets shop had lots of really interesting variety. I'm now hooked on mint imperials after trying them there! highly recommend
T. r.
A great family day out. Similar to the Black country museum. Some very interesting facts and an insight on what it was like to work making iron. You can spend tickets on a fairground or horse and cart ride. Lots of old shops to look around and a pub. Quite expensive, so would be better off buying a yearly pass to go to any museums.
E.
Loved it, beautiful place to visit worth the money. Interesting things to see from the Victorian times and the staff very welcoming. It's a must
H. P.
A step back in time ⏲️ with some fun and historical facts in a place you can't help but enjoy yourself! A very well presented experience and a day out you will want to repeat. Loved it. Interesting and informative and an eye opener to the past
k. r.
Great place for a day out. Lots of history. Great play area for kids. Dog friendly. Good food at a reasonable price. Some of the best chips ever from chip shop.
C. F. (.
Excellent day full day out. All staff very knowledgeable in each of the shops/ exhibits. Love you can buy bits from the exhibit. Great play area. Little hilly in places which was a little difficult with prams / pushchairs
J. R.
A great full day out with the family. Great for kids with lots of interesting things to do. The school lesson is good fun but it is only done at a set time so check out the time and be there 15 mins early to ensure you get a place. The best selection of food for lunch is at the cafe at the bottom of the hill. Or alternatively the fish and chips from near the pub is excellent. Plenty of parking.
G. G.
Absolutely stunning village set in the victorian era. Shop owners were happy to share their knowledge and was very interactive for the children. We popped to the bank first to exchange our money for victorian coins which we spent in the shops and on the fair children thoroughly enjoyed the carnival games at the fair and the little cottages dotted around.bought some bread from the bakery and soap from the chemist, also some stationary from the post office. Will definitely be returning again soon!
J. P.
A great set up that represents the period it portrays.
There's something for all ages, from a play area for kids to a pub complete with real ales and sing alongs.
There's a lovely walk too which goes around the back of the site.
When we arrived at the visitor centre we were welcomed by Zoe who was happy to spend time letting us know about the walks and where was best to start.
You can pay a bit more which allows you access to other sites in the local area which is well worth the money if you're a frequent visitor.
There's several cafes but you're welcome to take your own packed lunches.
Dogs are welcome too.
R. A.
I enjoyed my time at this living museum. It was a great experience. Upon arriving you are immediately confronted with the beautiful street and it's clear where to go. Everything here is authentic, from all the ornaments to the people
J. E.
Visited for the Christmas event and could not recommend this enough!
So much better than the Black Country Living Museum.
Really impressed with the town and activities for children.
Visiting Santa was so impressive for the children.
Must see attraction.
A. H.
Super place to visit, plenty of atmosphere with staff in period dress on hand across the site to inform and educate. Plenty of period buildings to see. Plenty of places to eat etc spread around the site. We paid £20pp for just Blist Hill Victorian Village but that is valid for 12 months. The car park is not free you pay by the hour (which was a little disappointing given the entrance fee)
J. W.
What a wonderful place so much to see and do, with the added bonus today of the heavy horses being there. More that worth a visit.
D. J.
A great day out for all ages
We got to do some candle dipping but sadly the omnibus was not running , the photographer was fully booked and the bakery was sold out by around 3pm which was very dissapointing. I did expect the sweetshop and gift shop to have a little more variety. One thing is price! 4 soft drinks, 2 cakes, 2 chips and a sausage roll cane to £25!!!!
G. M.
Amazing place - I highly recommend. Open-air museum replicating a Victorian Streer. You can go into shops set out as they were in Victorian era. Staff are dressed up and are hugely informative. They give you a free activities ticket that you can use at the funfair or to make a candle etc. We used it to go on a little train to a iron mine experience.
A. W.
We had an absolutely smashing day out here. There's so much to do and it's very interactive and interesting! A great day out for family or friends!
D. R.
A real gem of a living museum. Many thanks to the army of volunteers who make this a special place to visit - even on a chilly December day in victorian costume.
The entrance fee (see museum website for current charges and opening times) is valid for 13 months, so if you don't get to see it all in one visit you can come back again. You still need to pay for parking though on each visit.
The excellent introductory film experience gives a good insight into life underground as a miner and then on a foundry floor. Blood, sweat and real physical hard work - with little respite. This exhibition area could do with some bench seating as the film is a few minutes long (elderly, infirm etc).
Lots of buildings, old shops and specialist 'crafts' on display including Bank, general stores, pharmacist doctors surgery, school, sweet shop and much, much more.
The corner pub was having a sing-along with someone playing golden oldies on a piano. The fish & chip shop frys to order and yes, its very tasty. For food here there are also 2 other cafe/eateries with indoor & outdoor seating.
Dog friendly in all areas except inside in areas selling food.
Really worth not just one visit, but return trips should be a must... I'd love to see the huge foundry in production.
I. G.
Absolutely brilliant 5 hours. More to see than I thought. Lovely people in character populating the village, who have a lovely little chat with you giving some background to life in Victorian times. Plenty of toilets, all maintained well. Plenty of places to get food. Fish n chips are gorgeous. A lovely new picnic & play area for the kids. What a great day out highly recommended. The only caveat is there's a lot of walking involved & one very steep hill
G. R.
Superb day visit to Blists Hill. Beautiful place steeped with historic buildings and artifacts. Staff were excellent at explaining yesteryear and exploring how the people of the villages lived. Definitely going back for chips!!
J. H.
Excellent day out . Well thought out . We had the beef dripping fish and chips( £7 each) It was delicious. Staff played the roles in Victoria costumes and have great knowledge of the era. The village shops and the history about the Victoria era was brilliant. Lots to do with engineering as it Industrial revolution and what was life like.
There is a new playground for the little ones that’s only been open a week. Quite easy to get around with prams and wheelchairs. Staff are very friendly. There are horse and cart rides, demonstrations, a little fair, a pub with a bit of entertainment. A few cafes and toilets. You can buy shillings, pennies and pay for your goods with them. Mostly outside, so weather needs to be reasonable .
Cost £20 each for adults but you could pay £29 each and go to all the areas around Telford, Iron bridge for the year and go as many times as you like. Well worth a visit.
B. Y.
I really enjoyed to visit this place. We had a lunch here. I have know a lot of interesting information about history of industry in Victorian time. I liked the fashion show.
K. W.
When you go here you are stepping back in time and can see how life was in the Victorian times. Various businesses here just as they would of been with the staff wearing period clothing. Minimum of a couple of hours needed here.
S. G.
So fun, we go back every few years as always so much to see. Got the passport this time though so will probably visit multiple times over the next year. So festive at the moment and the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. Love they are dressed up in Victorian outfits and even the publican was complaining about women and children now being allowed in the pub!!! Assume he was in character....
E. B.
Visited on my Shropshire holiday in 2020 summer. I remember tickets must be booked in advance and the car park was not free, but we received a refund card to stamp, if we spent £20 inside, so the parking should be free. Otherwise it was £5 per day. There were 2 car parks, really huge, and the first was already full in the time I arrived- which was just opening time. Also, long queue was in font of the building, but luckily waiting time was no more than 20-30 minutes. Unfortunately, also the weather didn't treat us well, it was a grey, rainy day, and midday it became strong, was uncomfortable even in rain-coat, so many visitors left the village. Which is age-correct and interesting, with many things to see, Victorian aged shops, saw-mill, mind shaft, butcher, sweet shop, etc. With an amusement for children, an old big ship inside (was a good shade from rain), working blacksmiths, working bakery, all staffs around are in Victorian style clothes. It would be a fantastic day out for everyone, and I am really sorry that weather washed us out and didn't let us to enjoy the full day and village.
L. H.
Really enjoyed our day out to Blist's Hill Victorian Town. I was surprised at how big the place is and loved that most of the shops were open and selling products. Including the bank where you could purchase old currency to spent on your visit, which I thought was a lovely touch.
w. h.
Wonderful place to explore victorian history, lovely tea rooms to eat and drink
C. C.
Well worth the money. Very enjoyable and not too busy.
M. R.
Absolutely super, the houses, people, shops,y ca change money for old shillings and peaces in their bak, singing in pub old songs, spent hard worked 5 pounds ( 2 months wage for women, that time) for sweets or I bisquit;)))))as well make your own poter and candles ,enjoy the atmosphere in the little wagons which take y to mine......excellent for day out;)
i. t.
Shame some areas closed. Lots if atmosphere with friendly staff/volunteers in period dress.
A. H.
Overall not a bad day out, enjoyed it and plenty to do and see but definitely more for the people interested in the time era, Kids enjoyed the park more then anything else.
D. W.
Great place to visit!...a unique experience, an authentic moment in Victorian England featuring Victoria n buildings that the site has acquired and restored in place brick by brick...amazing sites, smells and sound...a great day out for anyone to enjoy!
A. F.
Went for a private party organised by my parent company, beautiful setting, fantastic facilities & staff authentically dressed made for a brilliant evening
C. M.
It was an amazing day out!
The shops were beautifully decorated and the volunteers gave lots of informations about the daily live during the Victorian time.
10/10.
Secret tip: try the deep fryed chips!😍
D. U.
One of the most fascinating places I've been too. Fun for the whole family. Both kids 7 and 4 really enjoyed the day. We will be back very soon.
L. M. &. T. T. M. N.
What an awesome place to visit for the Day. We loved our Victorian town visit so much we upgraded our tickets to year passes !!! So much to see and do for all ages. They even have a pub. A fish and chip purveyor. Candlestick maker. Horse drawn carriage rides. A Victorian fair. And more. !!!! Don't take my word for it go and see for your self 🙂
J. V.
What a wonderful experience; the staff make this place absolutely magical. A whole street of victorian shops, for which we exchanged cash for old money to spend here (they all take card though).
Police officer, ragman, blacksmiths, bakers and all the rest to take you back in time and be immersed. There's an amazing play area for the kids too. Traditional Fish and Chips were excellent too 😋
F. T.
Went in October and it was an amazing day out, lovely weather, lots to do and plenty to see. Would 100% recommend to anyone thinking about visiting.
J. W.
What an experience!! It was so interesting to not only learn about a typical Victorian village, but also experience it. However, I'd recommend going in the early afternoon (around 10-11ish) as I arrived late in the afternoon and had a bit of difficulty getting around in time//going to the workshops such as the printmaking. There is something for everyone at Blists Hill; children, teenagers and adults alike :)
S. L.
About the 6th time I have been now, always love it. Took my partners mother with us she loved it. Well worth buying a yearly pass to all the museums in the area.
P. P.
Nice day out. Even with a coach party of children all dressed up in Victorian clothing it wasn't busy. Unfortunately a few things were closed which is why it's not 5 stars. Staff very engaging and interesting. Fish and chips were amazing! Like a bottomless pit they were. Tasty and plenty. Felt full after. Good range of other foods available. Looking forward to going back to see the things that were closed.
C. B.
Great living museum. Spent 3 hours here and learnt a lot. Volunteers and staff friendly.
M.
Despite the large price of the tickets Ironbridge is a lovely place to visit.I would totally recommend visiting if you are in that area or nearby.
H. M.
Okay, first of. Go! Buy an all year pass that gets you into all the museums of the area as well as Blists Victorian Town for £31-£35 and enjoy a fun for all ages victorian town. The all year pass gets you into Enginuity, iron museum, tile museum, pipework museum, toll House, China museum tar pits and much more. In terms of spending money specifically for the victorian town £40 (£20 of which was converted into old money to spend) was enough for two people for a spending spree day. I'm hitting the bakery, sweet shop, fish&chip shop, clay shop, food, drink, clay mine ride, souvenirs etc the list goes on. That £40 went far! We were lucky enough to attend during a steampunk event as well which really made it extra special!
I cannot reccomend this place to visit enough! We arrived at opening and stayed till closing a definitely days excursion. If you head to the pub at 12pm for a seat at the sing along at 1pm you can sing songs (which words are printed in the observer newsletter/map for free). If you head to the back of the sight near the fairground you can ride a train for 15 minutes that followd an immersive story of those mines at £2 per adult. There is so much to do and so little time that the volunteers and sight itself deserves donations and visitation.
Not to mention the amazing 'hidden' tid bits you never thought to find.
S. R.
Great day out , bit of a queue to get in but once in brilliant, staff in period costumes all very knowledgeable, had a fantasic sing along in The New Inn pub tap room over a pint with delicious fish a chips, well done to the staff for keeping us entertained.
L. P.
Excellent family day out, kids loved meeting a beautiful horse and having a ride on the carriage! Lovely friendly and informative staff. Fantastic play area, though kids were disappointed that the most exciting looking slide was inexplicably closed...
Bit on the pricy side would be one criticism. AND we were sorely disappointed to learn that the only parking available was £5 - on top of the ticket price! Should definitely be included.
j. p.
This is worth the visit and has so much
To see .parking is strange
B. M.
We had a nice day out here it’s well worth a visit !
B. L.
It could be really good if there were more volunteers/staff to man the attractions. Many were not open when we visited on Saturday. The folks present were friendly and helpful.
P. S.
Our second visit, most enjoyable too, very interesting place to vist,young,/ old recomend the pub ( sing along) and the chip shop, freshly baked bread a joy to vist
D. W.
Great place. Showed my kids what it was like back in day. When they got told kids where working back in day. there face dropped😄 🤣
G. J.
Not cheap (£28 concession) but we had a great time.
Interesting and fun, the town is set in 1900, with staff in period costume.
We exchanged some 2022 currency for that of 1900 in the Victorian bank (2022 £5.00 = just over 1 shilling in 1900) and spent it all in the Victorian sweetshop, enjoyed the Flying Chairs in the fairground, etc etc - Wonderful!😊
A.
I used to visit this place relatively frequently when my children were growing up. I no longer have young children, however i had been telling my friend about it and we decided to go along for the day.
What can I say, it still took my breath away when I walked through the door into 1900. A feast for my senses, the Constable was talking to the lad on the horse and cart and there was a hustle and bustle about the place. We visited the bank and changed our money, we went into the chemist, had the best fish amd chips ever, the post mistresses and school master were pretty stern!!!! Every different discipline was looked after by a knowledgeable and passionate person. I remembered just how much I had loved my days out with my children. I will not leave it so long to visit again. My grandchildren will soon be old enough to enjoy the experience. Thank you to each and every one of you who gives up your time for this brilliant place.
E. H.
Not sure it is a day out, try 2 hours! More to pay once you are in the attraction if you wanted to have a go on the funfair or take a trip on the mining railway. Even with a map kindly handed to us with our tickets, we ran out of things to see and do unless you paid on top of the entrance fee for them.
Saying that, the staff were knowledgeable and approachable.
S. C.
Wonderful mix of historic buildings and trades. The staff (all dressed in the traditional clothes of the time) were all friendly.and knowledgable and brought the experience to life. Lots to see. The large adventure play area at the bottom of the site was an added bonus and is great for children to let off steam!
M. S.
Fabulous day out. Plenty to see and do and really good food. Highly recommended. £20 per adult + £5.00 parking all day. Annual pass £29.00 per adult.
S. S.
Excellent place. Fantastic experience wondering through the town. All staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Do allow at least 3 hours (more if you are particularly interested and wish to interact more) and ensure you wear comfortable shoes!
I. M.
A bit of nostalgia, grandchildren loved it. Great staff who acted out their roles beautifully. Food and drinks were reasonably priced. To finish off the visit the children blew off steam in there great woodland play area. Plenty of clean toilets and great parking.
D. S.
Absolutely fabulous place plenty to see and do. Great for all ages. I will go again 👍👍👍👍👍
G. J.
Lots to see and lovely to people dressed in period costumes and willing to talk dogs are welcome and are allowed into all but three places
A. G.
It's an amazing place to visit. My kids loved it, super informative and fun to go round. The playground is epic too.
The reason it isn't 5 stars for me, is that a lot of the stuff you do on the way round you pay extra for. And given the cost of the ticket it felt a little cheeky. But I will be back it was great.
A. B.
We attended the Queens baton relay event and had a wonderful time. The event was extremely well organised and staff were excellent. Due to the heatwave there was free drinking water avaliable from various points throughout the town. There were free rides on the carousel too which the grownups were just as excited as the children about. It was great to be in the town before it opened to the public and to visit the new adventure playground which was fantastic! We can't wait to return again and spend more time exploring!
N. M.
If you enjoy seeing and learning about how life was during the Victorian times then you will love this place, the staff were brilliant and only to happy to explain what life was like. Our 9 year old really enjoyed it too, especially the huge play area
A. W.
An excellent day out outlining Victorian times.
All buildings and exhibits are maintained to a very high standard. Authentically dressed and knowledgeable employees/ volunteers.
Really worth the entrance fee.
T. W.
Well what can I say! 1st visit here and the staff in the exhibits were very knowledgeable and very very helpful. I loved the fact you could shop in old or new money. I had an issue with a disabled person and they were very accommodating. The fidget pie in the pavilion restaurant was very tasty. Definitely an attraction I would recommend.
T. N.
What a lovely time we had here really enjoyed it
R. S.
Great place to take the kids.
Lots of little trinkets to buy as a memory of the day , all at cheap prices.
You don't feel ripped off and the kids learn a lot.
Buy an annual pass for all the 6 sites for only £10 more than taking the family for one day
S. T.
Really enjoyed our day out here. It's a very interesting place and you need to spend a good few hours here to do it justice. Staff were friendly and helpful . My highlights were meeting a friendly shire horse called George,a lovely piece of shortbread and a pint in the pub .Other half recommends the chips too
R. G.
Excellent destination for families with fantastic staff. Interesting and entertaining for both children and grown ups. Highly recommend the sing along at the pub if you are going around lunch time - we have been back 3 times!
C. W.
Excellent place to visit. I love the people in costume, they were so welcoming. The singing policeman is lovely. The groom doing shire horse demonstrations is entertaining and cheeky. Lots of shops, a bank and industries to visit. A working example of the very first train engine was great. A wonderful place to visit but a place to visit in the dry as it is an open air museum.
S. M.
I get the idea but unless you have very small kids or older relatives tbh it's rather dull. Sorry. The playground is great though for little ones. I get the idea but it needs more investment and then could be v cool indeed and worth the money.
H. G.
We lost hours here the other day without even realising it. 6 and 11 year old kids in tow and they had a great time too. Loads to see, really interesting, great day! To top it off, we lost a prized cuddly toy - the kid got over excited in the awesome play area and put it down somewhere - when we realised what had happened the next day and phoned to ask if it had been found, a member of staff went and found it and agree to post it back to us. Wonderful!
S. W.
We came about 15 years ago when it was still a village and really enjoyed it then. Decided it was about time we returned now it was a town. What can I say, UTTERLY, UTTERLY BRILLIANT! Fantastic day out (and you really need to make a day of it) All the staff/volunteers were dressed in period costumes and were playing their parts brilliantly. All were fantastic but a special mention must go the the policeman/pianist singer at the pub lunchtime sing-song. What a talent, he had us in stitches.
A wonderful day for all the family, do go!
C. H.
A wonderfully organized living, breathing museum. Plenty to keep old and young occupied thanks to the amazing staff and volunteers all in period costume and all very knowledgeable.
S.
Although the Ironbridge Museums are about 2 Hours' drive away from Manchester, the journey is worth it. Excellent museums around the Ironbridge World Heritage Site make this area a great day out for the whole family. Indeed, get the Family Passport as an Annual Pass for all the museums, so that you can come back later (you won't be able to fully appreciate all that is on offer in just one day !) Blists Hill itself is a fascinating place with streets & buildings furnished in a Victorian style. Friendly staff & actors in period costumes man many of the buildings, & can give an interesting insight into their history. If you wish, change your modern cash for "Victorian" money (& try to figure out the confusing Imperial system !) This Victorian money can be used to buy things in the outlets - or can be souvernirs in their own right. It would take a long time just to describe the good sights of this museum town - you need to come here to fully appreciate it ! Enjoy a horse cart ride, Victorian Fish & Chips, the new (June 2022) onsite adventure playground (!)...
J. W.
Wonderful setting covering a large area with reconstructed shops, houses, and industry. Demonstrations available. A bit steep in areas but not too big a problem. Staff are appropriately dressed and extremely knowledgeable. Two restaurants and a fun fair with carousel. Fish and chip shop recommended. Loved the haberdasher shop and had a great conversation with a young lady who could talk about so much to do with fabrics, buttons and affairs of the day. Met a lovely Shire horse called George. Made me think how it might have been with all the steam, smoke and industry around. Not neat and clean as it appeared. Notice in the grocers shaming a lady who had not paid her bill. If she did not pay up the notice was going in the window for all to See! A wonderful visit.
S. B.
What a beautiful place and a fabulous way to protect our heritage and history. Every building is meticulously rebuilt, plenty of demonstrations and things to do, staff very friendly, knowledgeable and obliging. Shop reasonably priced.
It would be rated a 5 if not for the cynical way they charge extra for a carpark you have to use. Overall though well worth a visit out.
S. W.
A fantastic attraction that offers something for the whole family. Very informative staff who go out of their way to tell you the history and stories from a bygone age.
A decent selection of food and drink at reasonable prices can be purchased on-site.
The site is mainly outdoors so if you don’t like the rain keep an eye on the weather forecast to plan you visit.
There are some hilly bits but if your reasonable fit they shouldn't be an issue.
I would that you allow at least 4 hours to visit. All day would be better if time allows.
Lastly, you pay for car parking when you leave and not when you arrive. You can pay by cash or card at the 2 machines near the entrance.
J. B.
Very interesting and enjoyable afternoon. Lots to see, knowledgeable (and appropriately dressed) volunteers. A real insight into everyday Victorian life.
g. e.
What a wonderful place. Victorian life recreated through an entire village. The people (players?) were enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Shops were fascinating.
Will come back again!
S. C.
We had a great day out at Iron bridge, the highlight was the sing song in the pub, the knowledge of songs ( believe me my friend did test him) the singer we had was amazing, sorry cant remember his name, but he sold papers as well, it was great singing along to songs my grandparents sung.
The shops and village was very well set out and lovely rememising to the days gone by, really hope to visit this area again to revisit, thankyou for the memories
E. C.
For an open-air museum experience Blists Hill Victorian Town is a relatively good day out. We visited on the August bank holiday Monday. The weather was great, and it was satisfactorily busy in terms of visitor numbers. Our visit lasted for around 4 hours, and I think that was just about right us. The last time I visited here was on a school field trip over 20 years ago and so it was great to go back!
The are real live working Victorian stores and amenities, such as a bank, pharmacy, bakery, sweet shop, a pub, post office and fabric shop to name a few. All the Victorian shops have Victorian artifacts and products laid out on display as they would be in a shop of its time. They have staff in Victorian costumes throughout various stores to give educational speeches and answer any questions. You can also purchase hand crafted items within each store, that are made to look and feel like they would’ve come straight from the Victorian era, such as soap from the pharmacy, or delicious freshly baked bread from the bakery! It’s a great experience, BUT I feel like most of these made to look hand crafted Victorian items are generally available to purchase in the modern age.
I visited way back when with school and I recall how incredible it was to purchase a hand-crafted candle that’s just been made. But in today’s modern world, we’ve slowly gone full circle and redeveloped these hand-crafted items that are readily available, and I think we’ve become accustomed to them. They’re at our fingertips on Etsy and available in most boutique stores on our high streets or at craft fairs. So, it felt like ‘we’ve seen it all before’ and this wasn’t really that unique anymore. I.e., we’ve seen a return in recent years of many old-fashioned novelty sweet shops in many modern towns and so the Victorian sweet shop wasn’t really anything different.
The Victorian Street itself isn’t all that spectacular either. It looked a bit too polished and not big enough in terms of perspective. The castle museum in York feels more real in terms of a real Victorian street. But even with that, if you’re after a ye olde town experience, you only have to walk 5 minutes from the museum to the shambles in York, and that is a real working, real life street and I think I was expecting the Victorian street at Blists Hill to have a similar vibe to it. But it lacks something and just doesn’t quite manage it!
It felt a bit ‘empty’, and the rest of the open-air museum seems a bit too spacious and ill placed and ill thought out too. The Clay Mine Tour seemed popular, and I think we followed other visitors here like sheep. But we wasted our time with this, it was boring and bland and you don’t see any such feature of the clay mine itself. During the train ride, I thought we were watching a pre-show to the main attraction or the next section. But it turned out what I thought was the pre-show, which goes on far to long was actually the main event!
There are toilets throughout the museum and plenty of nice places to eat and drink at reasonable prices. Most of which are Victorian themed, some of them are not. I would value this attraction at around £10 – 14.99p and I would rate and review it as such appropriately based on that value. This review is reflective of the current value which as it stands, warrants only 3 stars. When you leave this museum it’s well worth taking an additional 8-minute road trip and seeing iron bridge. It’s a lovely quaint town and of course it’s home to the iconic iron bridge itself. We stopped here for a pot of tea and cake before heading home, it was lovely and overall we had a nice day out!
P. M.
Great day out. A real life village where you can chat to shopkeepers, buy products, go to school and much more. Kids will love it. It beings history to life!
R. R.
Lovely attraction. Please do be careful though regarding tickets and any return you may wish to make to revisit the attraction. We must have misunderstood the rules in so far as we thought we had been told by the cashier that we could do a return visit within 30 days. It transpires that the 30 days is not for a return visit but to be able to buy a discounted ticket for a return visit at a cost of £9.50 per person.
m. l.
Amazing place , you really do feel like you have stepped back in time. Not all of the attractions were open due to covid restrictions , but we were still able to look around the outside of the buildings. Staff were amazing, we felt safe under the current regulations. Fish and chips were the best we had ever tasted ! Would highly recommend a visit .
A. T.
Interesting and quite a lot to see, but being in the week, the lower town was not all open. In fact the lower town needs more in it to liven it up. Reasonable price food and drink, but very expensive to go in, and parking on top is a rip off.
R. P.
Fantastic family day out, lots to see and do for all ages. Well thought out Corona virus protection measures, including one way system. A few of the indoor attractions closed but that doesn't detract from the whole experience. Staff friendly and genuinely pleased to visitors back enjoying the town.
W. C.
Great place learning so much about the victorian era, nice to let kids change money in the bank to old money to spend around the place & in the shops, lots to do & take it. Dressed up in victorian clothes & had pictures taken lvly to keep a special memory.
Defo worth a visit took grandchildren had a lvly fun day
P. B.
Great fun and done really well. I went both pre and post COVID and whilst unfortunately it has lost some of the things that made it so unique (the bank and swapping money for example) it is still a really good afternoon out. A lot of fun and amazing what we were able to achieve before technology and mobile phone screens!

If the past 18mths have shown anything it is there are some amazing attractions/experiences to be found in our own country and this is one of those!
We stayed in Ironbridge for a couple of days this week and from there we followed the trail along the river to Blists Hill Victorian Town.
It was such an enjoyable atmospheric experience, the staff are true too character - even the Policeman plays many characters from the sing along in the Inn to Sweeny Todd in the Goods Barn!
You can even spend Victorian money in the shops, just go to the bank and ask the tillers to exchange your money!!
Enjoy the trip down memory lane and spend 2d to buy 2oz of sweets in the sweet shop choosing from the many jars.
All staff are very knowledgeable in their characters, making you believe you have been lost in the 1900's, good value for money and some memorable moments which has made us decide we would certainly go back again!
A. W.
Really nice place to visit as a family. The Victorian town take you right back to the 1800s authentic arts and crafts, shops like ye olde Sweet Shop and gift shop provide a great selection of foods, gift ideas and mementoes. The staff all dress in Victorian clothes and are very knowledgeable about the era and local history. There is a small traditional funfair which is fun for younger kids and grown ups alike. There are a selection of cafés and small bite restaurants which are housed in traditional buildings which really adds to the feel of the place. The surroundings are gorgeous and green (in spring/ summer anyways). We particularly loved the Fish and Chip shop where the beef dripping cooked fish and chips were really tasty and large portion for a reasonable price even though at lunch time there was a large queue (45mins) so avoid peak times unless you are patient person 😉
There are many activities to do like candle making and demonstrations we did not have time to see and do all however they offer a reasonably priced annual ticket so we will definitely be going back soon with the extended family.
C. R.
Had a great time and experience with the team the lovely gent in the estate management offices was really nice and knowledgeable about the local area, only one thing the price system in place is very expensive after paying the entrance fee there are lots of additional charges that you have to make to have a full day in the grounds, but over all had a fantastic time,
T. C.
It would have been five stars, but there were things on the park that were closed.
We really enjoyed our day. Activities on the park were reasonably priced, but the food and drink were very expensive.
D. J.
Lots to see and learn about Victorian life. The living actors were enthusiastic and keen to answer any questions. Disabled access was generally good although I needed some help on the slope back up from the furnaces as the inclined lift was being renovated.
J. P.
Love this place. All the charactors telling the story of victorian times. Lots to see n do and carbolic soap. You can use cash or card or have ur cash changed for old money. The chippy is so good. Awsome place
J. N.
Enjoyed a thoroughly wonderful time here. The detail and work that has, and still is, building such a fascinating and educational insight into our history and the lives of those who lived during those times. Also enjoyed a wonderful walk through the grounds, so peaceful. Thank you to all the workers who took the time to explain how machinery worked. School party there on our visit and lots to keep children interested and room for them to "let off steam".
A. F.
Really good, will go again!
T. P.
Not my thing really but my partner loves it. Friendly people always willing to share stories. Have to add, there was one member of staff who dealt with a paying customer so horrifically over the car park cost. The customer took it better than I did.
h. h.
Really great place to visit. Brilliant to see loads of shops as it was in the olden days. The sweet shop and the bakery was the favourite 😊 you can swap today's money with the old coins at the bank. Also enjoyed the rides.
A. D.
A mixed experience. When compared to a family ticket for a comparable day out with the National Trust (£23) or English Heritage (£26) the one-off entry price of £66 for a family of 4 is avaricious in the extreme as is the requirement to pay for parking on top. Upon entry to the visitors desk, we were asked whether we wanted to pay a further £4.95 for a guidebook, which we politely declined. Despite the lack of a free map, the experience did improve, however with positive interactions and demonstrations from the friendly and helpful staff in the candle factory, blacksmiths and bakery. Overall, a worthwhile cause although the somewhat rapacious attitude from the management soured the experience a little.
H. L.
Our second visit to Blists Hill. It cost us £59 to get in, for 2 adults and a student. Overall not a patch on our visit a few years ago. To find the incline ride, the chip shop and the bakery all shut was very disappointing. We went on the mine train ride and shared the train with screaming teenagers, we couldn't hear some of the audio. The staff we engaged with were friendly, informative and helpful. After 3 hours we left and found we had to pay another £4 to park. Overall disappointed and didn't feel it was value for money 😞
R. L.
A really good day food excellent too lots of seating and the smell from the bakery worth the trip alone (homemade bread and biscuits) Victorian shops where you can actually buy things
C. S.
Go back in time. A fantastic experience for young and old. Going back to Victorian times and see how people lived. The staff are dressed in costume and are very knowledgeable. The fish and chips are delicious washed down with a pint of cloudy cider. A great day out. Wheelchair and pushchair accessible.
E. G.
First came here in 1989 and its even better with age. A great day out, really interesting but made more so by the staff who are helpful, informative and bring the place to life. The buildings and contents are excellent. On Wednesday they operate the foundry, making cast iron door stops that you can buy. The pub sells beer, and the fish n chip shop had a queue before it even opened. Also a haven for wildlife, dog friendly and plenty for the kids to do. What are you waiting for?
D. M.
We have visited Blists Hill Town many times. We used to bring our children but now we come on our own its still a great place for a day out. If you want to learn a little about the industrial revolution or the hardship of life in the 1800s this is the place for you. Even if you aren't that bothered, it's still an interesting place to visit with real people dressed up as Victorians and demonstrations of traditional crafts. If the fair is on (which it usually is) that's a bonus.
R. W.
This has to be a must for anybody visiting Ironbridge. Make sure you allow time to enjoy a special year at the time of Queen Victoria. You have the opportunity to meet and talk to so many people who are only willing to enhance your experience by filling you in on what 'it used to be'. So much knowledge to fill in so many gaps in our knowledge. Hardship as part of life, yet living at a time when industry entered a Sprint.
L. C.
Really enjoyed the visit.
R. W.
A brilliant day out, lots to see and learn about a bygone era. Great to see the old crafts living on here. The staff are all very willing to impart their knowledge and fantastic to see them so immersed in their roles. Very good parking provisions, pay on exit. There is a lot of open space that you don't feel like your squeezed in tight looking at exhibits. The Forest Glen has a good range of food and drink on offer. The new park area is fantastic for the children both young and old. Great little spot for a picnic. Toilet facilities there too along with a little drinks cart too.
D. B.
Spend about 5 hours here taking your time and engaging with different aspects of victorian life, speaking to the hosts and watching the events throughout the day.
Similar to the Blackcountry living museum, if you liked that, you'll like Blists Hill.
Has Cafés a pub, sweet shop and fish and chip shop.
Great day out, would definitly go again.
P. C.
Great day out with lots to see and do. The whole family will enjoy and being able to talk about how we lived as well as see it kept everybody entertained. Lots to do and see even going back to school wasn't that bad.
We got an annual ticket which is excellent value for money.
J. P.
Lovely place to visit with the family. Lots of historical interest. We particularly the inclined track at the far end of the site, the entertaining printer, the candle maker and the old furnaces. Gorgeous chips from the chippy. Lovely natural scenery too. Fab!
S. W.
Always worth a visit. A really fascinating, immersive experience. Wonderful way of seeing what life was like for the typical 19th century person.
A. W.
Absolutely great day. Daughter and son in law took us. Great experience. Well worth the visit.
J. M.
Absolutely fantastic! You definitely need a whole day here to get around all there is to see and do (and to get your moneys worth as entry is not cheap). We went over the 'steam weekend' which was pretty disappointing - there wasn't much to see in the way of steam engines at all. The fish and chips are the best in Telford and the policeman/piano player/teacher will be the highlight of your day, he is brilliant. Fresh bread and shortbread were a bit of a let down, particularly for the price! The rides and stalls at the bottom of the hill were closed when we went for some reason (during holidays and over a weekend??) so that was a shame too, but otherwise a grand day out for the family, thank you!
S. W.
From the moment we arrived to when we left, the Blists Hill Victorian town, we were made to feel very welcome, all the staff happy to tell us about the various places.
The setting is absolutely beautiful, with plenty to do for a full day for a whole family. I can't recommend this place enough, excellent value and a great day out
N. P.
Amazing place, the staff really know their stuff, we've done loads of cool stuff there - tour of the ironworks, brick making, poster printing, watching cast iron moulds being made and then the iron being poured in, not to mention of course the kids play area. And great conversations with a master Mason and a violin maker in the space of a couple of days . So much to enjoy!
C. D.
Well worth the visit with the people all dressed up in victorian costume and horse and cart rides all part of the experience. Just like walking through a tv set production.
P. G.
Lovely day out with 2 preschoolers, a toddler and a baby even though the weather wasn't brilliant. Would definitely recommend.
R. M.
A good place to visit many interesting things to see concerning the victorian town, the coal and clay mineing, pottery and life and times of this era, also the staff dressed in costume are very friendly and helpful...a nice day out.
A. D.
Blists hill is a great example of the perfect day out with friends or family. Plenty of parking and we had a wheelchair with us and was highly accessible, There was one or two buildings in which it was a bit tight but to be expected for a Victorian town. Fantastic town, feels like being back in Victorian times, lots of exhibits and daily events and the actors are authentic and always happy to share stories and knowledge. The annual pass is reasonably priced. Cafe and pubs included and the fresh baked goods are a must. Everything is very reasonably priced and am definitely coming back.
h. E.
Amazing place. A look at the way the Victorian people lived.. Lovely walk along the old canal to the incline plain
R. B.
Really, nice living museum. Staff where very friendly. The public house was a lovely touch. Shopping in the old shops, was like travelling back in time, especially with the old currency you can buy in the bank. Only issue, was the chip shop staff, where abit sturn, and not very friendly. We would of had the fish and chips, if you actually provided forks, instead we settled for chips. But except for that little issue, a lovely day out.
A.
Really cool Victorian village. You can change your money to "old money" and buy old fashioned gifts and treats. My children loved the wooden toys, sweet shop and fun fair. I loved the handmade soaps, plaster decorative items, stationery and the printed cards and signs. It was fun, but educational too. And we were even able to bring the dog!
A. M.
Yes a brilliant day out , so much to see & do.participate in and get fed or have old fashioned fish &Chips and a sing and pint at the old pub. Also a funfair of old for the kiddies, I recommend this enriching day out.Even a refurbished river sail boat and a little rail trip. All good fun.
T. F. D.
Great experience at the Victorian photography studio with Wendy. She guided us expertly on what to wear and how to pose for our photo shoot . Our cheeky golden retriever was with us and our photos were gorgeous! We didn’t feel rushed and the whole process was wonderful. Had many compliments from family/friends and that’s thanks to Wendy ! Can’t thank her enough !!!
C. H.
Been here a few times. Make sure you get the map as the walk up the hay incline is lovely. Always lots of interesting things to do, you can exchange your money for old money in the bank, visit the sweet shop, chip shop, bakery etc. Very interesting place to visit and very good value if you're local to get an annual pass for all of the Gorge Museums.
M. R.
What a fantastic place this is! We visited 12 years ago and it was good then but now it is incredible. Populated by knowledgeable staff and volunteers, the town is brought to life before your eyes.
Shops, houses and industry are side by side on a massive site. You can change your money to £sd at the bank and enjoy a day learning all about life in a Victorian town.
We had the best fish and chips in beef dripping, sang songs in the pub and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thanks to the guy on the piano for singing "When father papered the parlour". It brought back memories of my dad singing it to me.
Hopefully it won't be another 12 years before we return.
V. K.
Fantastic day out for all ages. The fish and chips are the best I've ever eaten and the spice loaf in the bakery is fab. Don't forget to exchange your money, it's very educational and fun around the town.
J. O.
Really enjoyed it, so much so we went back the following day for a couple of hours (had annual passes to all the various museums in the area).
Various events throughout the day, food and drinks available at the café by the entrance or the larger food pavilion in the Victorian town itself. There's a various shops on site for food and gifts. Can recommend getting some honey biscuits or fruit loaf from the bakers, some beef dripping soaked chips from the chippy or hard boiled sweets from the sweet shop. There's a working pub too if you fancy a pint.
You can quite easily spend 3-4 hours there. Come around 10 or 11 I'd say as the events don't typically start till around midday onwards but I'm not sure if that changes depending on the time of year.
G. H.
Brilliant. British engineering and history at it's best. This is what should be taught in our schools. So much to learn from the past from candle making to bicycles, from the post office to the pub. Also has great entertainment for kids in a traditional Victorian fare and a more modern wooden adventure park. Great staff and well priced. Fish n chips in beef fat are a must.
C. H.
Really enjoyed our morning here. Lots to see and lovely to see so many people in Victorian costume. The people belonging to the museum were very knowledgeable. Will be coming back
S. M.
This is a wonderful place. It is like stepping back in time. If you want to cash into old money at the bank you can. They Victorian town has a sweet shop, a bakery, a fish & chip shop where you can buy delicious food and sweets from. The pub sells drinks. When we were there there was a sing-a-long in the pub. A horse drawn carriage ride. Nice walks. The buildings are not wheelchair accessible but the roads are. There are loads of things to see and do.
L. J.
Alot to see and do, a lovely day out but I would bring food instead of queuing hours for fish and chips. Right now you can buy a £20 annual voucher and get into all Ironbridge Museums for a year
S. M.
Blists Hill is a great place to visit to get a flavour of what life was like for working class folk in Britain in 1900. The town is set out with shops, a school, pub, workshops and houses to show how different people lived and worked at the turn of the century. There are lots of staff dressed in period costume who can tell you all about how life was back then & you can even get dressed up yourself & have a 'vintage' photo taken in the photography studio. Set in beautiful woodland with a small canal the walk around the site is lovely and with a couple of cafés & toilets dotted about there are ample amenities. It's good value for money as you could stay there all day so if you're interested in history get yourself off to Blists Hill!
J. J.
Visiting mid winter is a wonderful time of year with all the staff able to give you 1-2-1 time explaining all about Victorian life. Must go back again as enjoyed it so much. Suitable for all ages.
D. Z. (.
Great day out - for singles, families, friends. Plenty to see and do for many hours. Excellent.
S. D.
Brilliant day stepping back in time. So many amazing machines to admire. Slightly mind blowing that some of the properties have been relocated to Blists Hill brick by brick. Real chips and a decent pint of Hobsons too. New play park is great fun for the kids. Nice circular walk to the Hay Incline
s. s.
Love this more every time we go, only complaint is no cash machine once in , may be a massive sign as you go in to make sure you have cash fir fair and a few other things
D. W.
Lots to see, plenty to do, amazing day out in the warmer weather, have came a few times as I have the passport that allows entry to all the museum's withing Telford and I never leave disappointed, there is something for everyone, from the sweet shop, to the bakery, fake coal mine and plenty more.
S. S.
This is a really great day out. From arriving to departing we were looked after and treated very well. Excellent attraction, very informative staff in character for the victorian era. Lots to see and very hands on. Would be even better to visit post covid restrictions, however, the venue gives the best it can with these in place. Guarantee the fish and chips are so e of the best you can have.
Please support this amazing venue, the staff work extremely hard to interact and make your day.
5 stars from me and Mrs S...
D. D.
Spectacular open air museum with staff in costume in many buildings. Worthy of multiple visits, especially if you like fish and chips cooked in beef dripping. Very dog friendly. Worth visiting on a busy peak season day when more buildings are open and manned
T. M.
Big Victorian style town all recreated from real buildings from around the UK. Modern entrance, shop and café, then you can follow the roads around to see all of the exhibits. There's so much to see: old bank, butchers, printers, candle makers, pub, chip shop, sweet shop and much much more.
Our favourite was the Squatter's Cottage. If you ask the staff inside, they will tell you all about it. Staff are dressed in Victorian clothes, and it's great to see them acting the part of some of the residents.
We also loves seeing the shire horses, the old chemist and the fairground.
At the bank, you can exchange modern money for old shillings to spend around the town. You can also join in some workshops and talks. A full day out!

August '17
Great 1900's town experience in this interactive 'living museum'.
There's a bank to change your money back to imperial coinage (£; s & d) to spend in the shops which include a pharmacy, haberdashery, sweet shop, photographers, great British pub, fish & chip shop (using beef dripping to cook in) & several others.
There's also a school house with real lessons with Mr. Strict at 12:00 (& he really is!) & a seasonal fair with swings boats, coconut shy & a carousel!
There's also a cafe & both an indoor & outdoor picnic areas.
Plenty to do for all!
W. S.
Had a great time loads to see.people are very informative.guy who gave the tour around the ironworks brought history to life.had chips in beef dripping for lunch sat by the canal.great place would highly recommend
S. J.
Very different, very enjoyable. A whole village presented as it would have been back in the Victorian times. There's lots of little shops and businesses that you can go into, ask questions, see what the workers used to get up to etc. Quite a few are used as an excuse to try and sell you something (bearing in mind it's already cost you £30 to get in...), but I'm told these micro-purchases are much easier to stomach outside of pandemic times when you can pay for them with 'old coin' currency you exchanged at the start. Definitely worth a visit!
K. O.
More than just a Victoria town, there are engineering workshops too. Change your money in the bank for pennies halfpennies and farthings. Spend the pennies in various shops like a bakers, sweet shop, candlemakers, Hardwear shop etc. For children, old and young.
J. S.
Let's get it out the way... It's not cheap. Me and the wife went and it set us back £43 plus £4 parking.
With that said, it's a decent 3+ hour attraction and pretty unique in terms of the experience offered.
Without ruining it, you get a pretty accurate representation of blists hill as it would have been in Victorian times. A bunch of shops (all the key ones, butcher, baker... Candlestick maker) and people ACTUALLY working in them. Very knowledgeable they all are to.
We sampled the cafe for a panini and a coffee and this was more than adequate.
Worth the experience if you like a bit of history and don't mind a few people 'in costume', even if the fee was a little steep.
A. M.
A good living museum of the industrial Revolution, with examples of town life, and coal, iron and pottery production. Interesting for anyone who has interests in history.
J. L.
The village opened at 10am and we were some of the first in, I had an idea of what it should look like and was a little taken back and it was a a bit more model than I had hoped for.
Bit the fact you could exchange your money for old world money, and get your picture taken all dressed up was cool.
The active steam engines all over the site very interesting and site has a lot to take in.
Have an annual pass helps let you back in anytime so may go back in the winter to see the difference.
l. G.
Went here during the school holidays great day out when you buy your ticket its good for the year. Lots of things to see and do. We really enjoyed the pub sing song.
J. F.
Visited today with the dog, there were lots of dogs and they are welcome all around the village, they aren't allowed In the exhibits or the eateries. Overall it was a nice day out, slight gripe I have is that I think a couple of the staff should go on a customer service course. When we arrived, we decided to have a coffee, we walked up to a counter and before I had chance to open my mouth the guy said "we're not serving ice cream" ( I didn't ask for Ice cream? He could have said good morning how can I help you!) I said I was after coffee and he said that we needed to go inside but one of us would have to stay outside with the the dog - which is fair enough. There is no under cover seating areas for people with dogs, if a shower did come on there is no where to shelter. My opinion ... but I think it could be made a little more dog friendly considering how many dogs there were and it wouldn't have to cost that much too.
First time we came here we attended a wedding which was lovely. After the service we had the fair ground to ourselves. Nice food and ice cream in lovely surroundings.
C. R.
A great family day out, lots of interactive fun, great learning experience. We will definitely be back.
R. B.
Transports you in a different world, very nice experience. You get to feel the victorian era, spend in pounds shillings…actors stay in character and passionately share their knowledge of how people lived their lives before.
M. M.
Highly recommended! As a living museum, Blists Hill rewards the visitor with an authentic, and rich insight into the the late Victorian period, viewed through the lens of a social change and gradual decline in relative industrial fortune.
The museum benefits from friendly and knowledgeable staff and volunteers. The addition of actors in period costume quite literally brings the town to life and creates some tremendous photo opportunities to boot.
Blists Hill is suitable for all age groups. Prices are reasonable and parking is ample.
J. M.
Easy to park and costs £2. Bought an annual pass as not much more and I can return when not wet. A nice idea with a selection of shops and industries. The staff explained their areas well and it's quite a big site. The chips were a treat but pricey at £3.50. we looked in the cafes but didn't fancy the cakes or hot food but may try next time I visit. Would recommend for a day out even though £21 per adult just go on a dry day!
L. H.
What a great day. All the actors/staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Everything is well priced bakery, sweet shop and chippy. Fun and interactive for all ages.
s. D.
I fantastic place to visit. I took the kids here and there is so much to see and do. Loads of open space so your not in masks all day and everything was reasonably priced. All the staff were lovely and so easy to talk to which is not easy to find with ASD children.
A couple of pieces of advice. Take some sturdy shoes as the ground is uneven in some places and there is a section of water by the sweet shop.
There is a chip shop as well as a couple of cafés to grab refreshments so you can't go wrong really. There were disability toilets but I didn't see inside so if you need harness access I would drop them an email before you go.
D. M.
Blists Hill Victorian Town is a gem to behold. As soon as you pass through the modern entrance you're transported back in time. With "actors" who roam the streets, the shops and the fun fair you feel a part of the Victorian era. Change your money at the bank into old money and go to the local pub where singing is the regular done thing.
The atmosphere here is wonderful, however I highly recommend going between February - September when everything is open. During the winter months some parts of it are understandably shut down (fair ground rides).
D. J.
Enjoyable day out. If you like social history you will enjoy it here & Great fish and chips.
K. B.
I'm not sure if we went on a particularly quiet day (it was summer holidays though) but a lot of the shops and workshops were empty. The ones that were manned were good.
The kids liked getting Victorian money to spend and keep as a souvenir and the fair was fun, though small.
Unless you're planning on going multiple times or to more than one museum, a family ticket is pricey.
All in all, it's a nice half-day out but not quite up to the standard of Beamish.
R. B.
Really good place for families Victorian village interesting proper old shops pub iron works alsorts. People dressed in Victorian clothes . Well worth a look.
A. L.
You have to pay for car parking at these places. OK its only £3 per day, but machines don't take cards and its another expense. If you gave your car reg number, you can buy at entrance to town. The recreated town is OK. If you have been to either Black Country museum or one in North--east you have a comparison. Guides explain things well. Fish and chip shop was too slow. There were only two people serving and clearly they needed more people. Enjoyed demo of printing press.
M. R.
Brilliant place to visit, for all ages. Fascinating. Staff knowledgeable and friendly. Great way of learning about the past, without reading notice boards.
T. B.
This place is amazing, you really do feel like you’ve gone back in time. So much to see, would say it takes a good 4-5 hours to have a proper look around. Really worth a visit!
A. M.
Great place to visit and very well presented. Good tour guides and very knowledgeable staff. Would be a 5 star review if you didn't have to pay to park your car as well as paying to get in!
D. N.
A lovely day out. Friendly in character staff, giving you a real experience of Victorian life.
A. S.
This was a fantastic victorian town, we spend 4 half hours here. The staff are amazing, so much to do
M. W.
We bought tickets which provide access to a range of Telford museums, and are valid for a year. However, we felt that they were too expensive, and that the museum itself really needed to be more interactive. The food from the traditional chippy was disgusting, but the beer from The New Inn was quite acceptable.
D. J.
Fascinating visit to the Victorian Town.
R. F. L. S.
Lovely place to visit for the day, very interesting and interactive. Take cash, the Victorian rides are about £2 each and the train ride is £2.50 an adult and £1.50 child over 5yrs. Limited choice for food. Chip shop isnt vegi as cooked in beef fat. Cafe had a range of sandwiches if you like tuna your okay! Id advise taking a picnic. The place was clean and tidy over all, having been to the black country museum i found that blist hill staff were less engaging and prefered to talk to each other rather than interact with visitors. Apart from the candle man - he was hilarious! Out of black country and here id rather go black country but again its a nice place and well worth a visit.
J. B.
Fabulous day, ran out of time!. Everything about it was amazing! George the horse and his owner were great as was the policeman on his bike, too many things to mention, go there!
K. H.
Absolutely fascinating. Enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable staff gave us a real insight into what life must have been like at such an interesting point in Britain's history. It really took you back there. I would recommend it to anyone for a brilliant day out. Dedicate a whole day to it.
I. T.
Great place well worth a visit. Has working shops that you can buy from and a chippy and a pub. Got to dress up and have a souvenir picture from the photographs, Going to go back in the summer has the are more to do.
K. E.
A lovely family day out.
Lots of parking available but at £3 all day. Lots of things to see and do. Nice little village with shops to go in and see what life was like.
Friendly staff begind the counters and willing to chat. Nice fish and chips shop and a great little sweet shop that sells very cheap sweets.
Nice little playground for children and very reasonable cost to go on the rides. You can even go round the town on a little horse and cart ride.
They even do a dog show for dogs that are visiting the attraction which is quite funny and good to watch.
All in all a great place to visit and would recommend coming here.
M. C.
What can I say other than wow! Words do not really do this place justice. It is massive and looks really authentic. The staff, in costume, are really friendly and helpful. There is just so much to see and do here.
The shops are really intersting and you can change your money into pre-decimalised money to spend as well.
There is a fantastic chip shop that cooks its fish anf chips in beef fat so they taste absolutely amazing!
You need a full day here to really see everything! Definitely coming back!
B. M.
A place full of contradictions. Some great exhibits of heavy engineering, river working boats, shops and houses from the Victorian era. Not all is good however. The clay mine experience which costs an additional £2 is a waste of money and the catering struggles to satisfy demand at peak times and the food is quite expensive.
P. S.
Really interesting place to visit, great for all the family. Staff were really knowledgeable and friendly, great place.
E. S.
An interesting depiction of life and times during the industrial revolution. Similar to Beamish but smaller and not as commercialised. Plenty to see but obviously a sanitised version of how hard life must have been.
D. D.
Very enjoyable day. Amazing engineering, loved all the old shops, truly a step back in time. Missed out on the fish,n,chips as over 30 minutes waiting on a cold day, maybe next time 😉
T. D. H.
Had a great time here. Would recommend if you like your history to be practical and hands on.
A. T.
Lovely experience. Lots to explore, and the chips are divine! We bought a family pass and so will return to see the other sites and revisit here.
E.
Amazing day out for everyone. We've visited this site quite a few times and still can't get around everything in a day. The staff are amazing and create such a lovely atmosphere. They're very knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. Highly recommend it.
For first time visitors: (There's a cafe and fish and chip shop on site .Parking isn't free)
There's lots to do including
- visiting (and buying) from the replica shops
- miniature school lesson
- old fashioned fair ground
- plently of demonstrations and talks
- The day and activities are highly dependent on the weather
- There's lots of walking
C. B.
I bought a 12 month pass from Wowcher for a reduced price.
Me and my family visited last Sunday and even our 10 month old enjoyed the day out!
Such a lot to see and take part in and I imagine there's even more activities during peak season.
Can't wait to visit again!
I. F.
Lovely and informative open air museum. We felt a little bit rushed as we went on a Sunday at 2pm and they kept informing us how they would be closing in 2 hours so we ended up leaving early because we felt a little rushed. However, it is a lovely place: going to the shop, bank, fish and chip shop, sweet shop, pharmacy and all of the industrial sections were wonderful. The staff were well mannered and informative. There’s a horse and cart for a drive around the block, the horse looks well looked after for all of my animal activist friends. I definitely recommend!
M. H.
Brilliant day out, more than worth the money on its own. Kids loved it, especially the amazing pianist in the town pub.
D. G.
What a experience this place is. You step back in time, wonderful. I definitely recommend it
A. F.
Very good play area. Not sure who's idea it was to put black sand in a kids play area, but I guess that they don't have kids. Poor choice of food and over priced. Staff very helpful and connected with the kids.
K. P.
Such a wonderful place to visit, we had so much fun. Little ones enjoyed swapping their money at the bank and going back in time. All the staff were wonderful and friendly and gave us loads of interesting facts. We got the annual pass and look forward to making use of it over the summer months
S.
Absolutely wonderful way to spend the day. Everyone in costume and they go out of their way to explain how Victorian era worked.
M. W.
We thoroughly enjoyed it...well laid out and the people were very friendly and interesting - we will recommend this place to friends and family 👪
b. d.
Wonderful place small hill to bottom of site but lift to go back up. When working. Full of old buildings with staff in costume. 4 places to eat Inc pub and chip shop when open of course due to virus. Very nice chips.
v. c.
The hustle and bustle of victorian life brings the victorian town alive. Transporting you back in time. Truly amazing. Well worth every penny, thankyou to all the staff for their help with my disabled sister, much appreciated, for anyone who has a disabled relative they have free admission,.
N. S.
Trevethick's replica steam engine was working, as was the mine steam engine. The staff were very informative and helpful. First class demonstrations. Excellent facilities. Top day out.
S. P.
On a cold day in January, we visited the Victorian Town, with an 8 Yr old boy, who really wanted to stay in and play on his switch. He loved it and thanked his daddy for taking him there. It was the first time he had seen bread coming out of the bread oven. He saw the candle maker making candles. He loved the pigs and went for a quick ride in a carriage pulled by George the Shire horse. Absolutely fascinating day for children and adults. Will definitely go back... when it is warmer! So much to see.
Y. H.
Excellent day out, great facility, wonderful step back in time, lots of fun and free to do activities once inside. Door charge a bit steep ... but if you factor in that you can spend a whole day there then it is actually money well spent. Many wonderful activities to take part in, makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. Food inside very reasonably charged. Plenty of toilet facilities. Clean, charming and very welcoming. Lovely knowledgeable staff. Would highly recommend this museum and family day out.
G. P.
Excellent visit even on a showery day. Plenty to see - both everyday life and industrial heritage. You can see a working steam engine. Nice fish and chips. Parking free if you spend £20 in the village. Careful covid measures in place. We hadn’t prebooked our entry slot and on a showery Wednesday had no problem getting in at midday.
A. G.
Absolutely amazing open air museum. Staff dressed and in character, very knowledgeable too! Live demonstrations, and authentic shops and experiences. Absolutely worth a visit.
C.
Loved it, brilliant place and all the volunteers that work in the shop are very knowledgeable. Will be back for another visit soon...👍
I. S.
Must visit if in the area. Great recreation of Victorian town. Shows you the way things were then. Each shop/bar is open and either sells things or actors can tell you stories how things worked. Candle making and what green candles where made from and for, press, bakery and other
A. H.
For two adults and a sixteen year old we paid £50 to get in.
The town is a living museum with a lot to see and is very interactive in an old fashioned sense, i.e. no tech, just nice people and lots to see. Slow a good 3+ hours to take it all in. Exchange your modern money for old pounds, shillings and pence at the bank and use it in the shops. Lots of photo opportunities and even an fiat ground. The is good parking as well as restaurant, coffee shop, bakers etc.
We went on a sunny Easter Friday and thought it would be crowded, but it wasn't. This is a great day out for a family and I recommend the clay mine train, short but with it. A relaxed atmosphere with no queues.
V. R.
The perfect way to "taste" a bit of history. Be transported back to Victorian England.
Also the place to go and eat fish'n'chips that taste like they should. Crisp crunchy batter, beautiful hand cut chips and no "greasy" after taste.
H. C.
Been here twice now. Great day out for young and old. Stunning views, and relaxing walks. The staff are all Very friendly and knowledgeable. We all especially love the police man, he is a great character and an asset to the place. The chip shop has the tastiest chips you will ever have, definitely worth the wait. The sweet shop has a yummy selection of sweet treats too. Our children loved the old fashioned fairground and horse's. Recommend to everyone.
M. H.
A great Victorian town. Well worth the visit the staff were great and there's lots to see. Would highly recommend the sausage rolls from the butchers they taste great. Look forward to returning.
C. W.
Lots there and great fish and chips, bread, sweets etc.
C. W.
Excellent even though the weather wasn't the best.
If you do visit make sure you get some old money to spend from the bank
We got some biscuits and later went to the pub
Great fun trying to work out what a sixpence could buy
Spent 4 hours there, amazing
K. W.
Great place for all to visit. Good museum with authentic monies that you can convert in a bank. Lots to see and do. Good gun fair for all.
R. P.
What a lovely place to visit, after the first time we came with our children we found lots to explore that kept our interest, even after visiting 4 more time we have fun here with every trip being a new adventure, generally we visit here first then head over to one of the other museums as part of the annual pass as to utilise the parking ticket (so if you pay for parking at one place the ticket is valid at the other museums on the same day) with our children aged 5 & 6 we had no problem in finding somewhere to stop for a drink or to grab a bite.
A. M.
Absolutely fabulous day! So much to do there and loved the dog show!
Staff were all very friendly and made it a more interesting experience!
The fish and chips were the best I've ever had!
M. W.
What can I say ..A truly fab place to visit ..Attention to detail is incredible ..Many many houses ,shops , business to visit .you feel like your truly in a Victorian timewarp ..Staff very friendly and helpful .The lovely policeman even recognized our Lincolnshire accent ☺️.well worth the entry fee and would recommend to anyone
T. K.
This is a unique Victorian era experience in Telford. It is an entire Victorian town complete with the full workings of what you would expect in such an era. A visitor can experience how it was like to live in such times, how they dressed, ate, the housing, business establishments, employment etc.
The staff wear Victorian esque costumes and are all knowledgeable for their role. It's worth following the map rather than do what the masses (especially OAP's) do and just follow where most people walk. The 2nd half of the town resides past the horses stables and this is not very visible from the 1st half.
You need to allow minimum 4 hours to experience it. Its very popular oddly enough with Primary school trips. Odd in that at that age group most of this Victorian experience would be lost on them. This is more appropriate for secondary school age at a minimum.
Wear comfortable footwear and be prepared for walking and on your feet for a few hours. There is a Telford x 10 Museum pass which covers this venue and 9 others in the vicinity which is good value than paying separately. However I discovered its far cheaper to buy a National ART PASS which covers ALL TEN musuems. You can even take out a 3 month Art Pass trial costing just £10. This cost is recouped just attending Blists Hill alone.
Happy to recommend.
D. I.
Great place to visit for a family but best to arrive early as the winter opening hours are just till 4pm, the time is soon over. Would be great to visit in summer and probably worth getting a year passport if you live in the area.
The staff are all polite and set the period feeling well. The pub singers were also well worth chancing upon!
C. J.
Wonderful place full of information and super friendly staff!! We was litetally there all day, brilliant social distance measure in process and the chip shop was lovely definitely go back as so much we didn't actually see
D. N.
Absolutely fantastic place all staff are dressed in Victorian costumes & are very informative there is are cafe on site aswell as a Traditional chip shop plenty of places to rest

P. W.
Fantastic day trip, friendly staff lots of interesting exhibits and great food and drinks , even the teenagers loved it!!!
M. G.
We loved it, as per the Black Country Museum, lots to see and fully immersed in 1900s.people very welcoming and knowledgeable. Very safe in term of social distancing measures, well thought through. Kids loved it although very tired at the end.
G. T.
Great day out at Blists Hill. Loved the bakery and real fish and chips. The school lesson is must and a little scary. Don't forget to visit the pub and join in with the sing song :-)
Easy to get to with clear signs. Good parking with reasonalble Pay and Display charges.
For the best value get an annual passport and visit as many times as you like over 12 months.
R. N.
A time-travel into post-brexit UK. Hilarious that this disneyfication has been funded by the EU. Entrance is rather expensive considering we had to pay extra for every childrens attraction. Overall we had a good time and all people working there truly did an excellent job conserving history and making britain great again. (pun intended)
S. H.
A step back in time in a great recreation of a victorian town lots to see , very interesting.
M. N.
Very good place well laid out .
Most activities and rides are extra to your entrance fee.
T. G. N.
Brilliant authentic brick by brick Victorian town reconstruction with many people to speak to & lots to see & do. A bit smaller than the Black country living history museum but just as good .
L.
It is like stepping into another decade, you enter through double doors into a victirian town and there are shops that resemble the victorian time. They sell amazing fresh bread too
S. L.
Looking run down and in need of maintenance. Food outlets very poor value for money.
More demonstrators needed. Not like it used to be a few years ago. Funicular lift STILL not working
S. &. T. B. -. B.
You'll need a whole day to see it all! Costumed actors are excellent!
F. E.
Beautiful layout, very knowledgeable locals, and the fish and chips are really good!
S. K.
Brilliant. Transported into 1940s streets. Enjoyed the trip into the mine. Highly recommended. Will certainly visit again soon 👍
B. S.
Great place so interesting but not enough time there on the trip we went on but the day we we t it was very cold lovely chips there but the queue was very long
I. B.
Went to the Christmas event. Excellent day out. Loads to see, could do with a second day really to be able to take in everything. Went to two shows in the big top, we didn't have time to fit in the ice skating as well. Fish and chips were very good as were the cakes in the tea room. The children had a great time and loved the adventure play area and the horse and cart ride. We will definitely return, hopefully when the weather is warmer.
R. H.
Very recommended as a day out. Lots to see and experience. Very friendly and engaging staff. Food available on site and Fantastic adventure playground for the kids. Only downside is the extra payment for the car park on exit (on top of the admission fee).
B. R.
Great experience, took a coach load of carers from North staffs for a break, everyone enjoyed the day. Sooo interesting. Love the staff & take my hat off to the volunteers.
L. P.
Such a lovely day out and educational would highly recommend 🥰
N. S.
The most fantastic place to go. So much to look at in a historically relevant place. The theme is kept so well that the only thing to break the emersion was a family with bottled drinks. The food at the chip shop stands as the best fish and chips I've ever had, the tour of the old iron works complete with standing original machinery was spectacularly delivered and the friendly nature of all of the staff was so welcoming. Along with the annual pass to all of the museums for a year costing just £70 for my whole family, the village is certainly worth visiting, possibly doing it on one day and one or two others in another day.
R. C.
A great half day out. Used with a multi-state ironbridge annual pass makes this area an attractive place to visit with kids. Lots of shops, cafes and on site attractions open (July 2020) and several large picnic areas if you want to bring your own.
N. C.
Great day out, social distancing rules are in place but still enjoyed our time there.
G. K.
Fantastic place to visit, highly recommended, a great day out, the fish n chips are highly recommended
S. G.
First time at Blists Hill Victorian Town Iron Bridge with my Family what a Fabulous day we had by all
M. D.
Always a brilliant family day out, lots to see and yearly pass a bargain
M. J.
Lovely place, well worth getting the annual passport to visit the other museums too. Food is good, the characters are brilliant and the whole place is really interesting. Real hit with the kids - especially the fair ground
J. j.
An excellent day out. All l Staff are very informative, extremely friendly and helpful. Couldn't recommend enough!!
A. P.
Cracking place. Loads of interesting stuff.
Could do with a bit of modernisation to bring it upto date. All the staff seem like they have had no new clothes since about 1850 ish.
Maybe if you visit(and I well recommend a visit) take a pair of joggers or a comfy pair of shoes for the poor people stuck in there.
R. J.
Love this place.
Smaller than Beamish. Cleaner than Beamish. Friendlier than Beamish. Better than Beamish.
Fish and chips amazing.
L. S.
Visited here with family. We all had a really lovely day. Everyone we met were really friendly and full of knowledge of this amazing place. Fish and chips were fantastic!!
F.
Love the experience and I still remember when I was a kid, I went a school trip to here and the Victorian school was amazing. Also the things in there was so historic and I would come visit again.
L. W.
Fantastic for the price railway and coal mine closed to be expected with covid fish and chips 6.80 well worth it staff very friendly and welcoming will go again
N. B.
Excellent, great day out. We all loved it. Friendly and helpful staff
P. 5.
Good day out despite the cold on the day we went. Plenty interesting places to delight. Lovely area for children to play. Wear walking shoes as the site is very large and to get the most out of it you will need to walk a fair bit.
C. S.
Brilliant museum, very interesting and lots to see. Staff dressed in Victorian costume which adds to the experience. An excellent day out, isn't cheap but you can return within 12 months for free.
D.
Excellent day out lots to see and do really interesting. The best fish and chips we've ever had.
N. K.
Really lovely day out for the whole family. Plenty to see and do. Great fish and chips and a lovely sing song in the pub!
K. P.
Not too busy. Easy to get round.Dont know what it would be like in high season.
S. W.
A great living museum but it requires a full day to see everything. It may be worth finding out which days have the most exhibits operating if deciding when to visit.
D. H.
Interesting place, makes you feel like a time traveller. Lots to do and see. Friendly staff doing an amazing job. We worth a visit.
A. R.
Enough to fill a good few hours here. Lots to see on site. Staff helpful.
E. C.
A really fantastic experience for all ages. Changing your money at the bank and then buying the handmade products, made on site definitely adds to the experience. All the workers are very knowledgeable and more than happy to talk to visitors. There are often special displays and talks during the day. Bear in mind the pay and display car park is £2, but only accepts £1 and 50p coins.
L. C.
A bit like the Black Country living museum in Dudley only bigger and better. When you get in the park there's a bank where you can change today's money into the old money and spend it anywhere in the park and in Summer time there's an old fashioned fun fair. I love coming here, i come at least twice a year
A. H.
Was introduced to this place via their tiktok. Great museum with lovely informative staff.
Y. J. L.
Amazing full day out to take the kids. Explore the different shops in the Victorian town. Take in the tasty fish and chips and sweet shop. Let the kids loose at the funfair and traditional school classroom discipline with the headmaster. Plenty of scenic walks. Worth the passport annual tickets to come back for another visit.
c. p.
We visited on a Drizzly morning but got out in the afternoon a wonderful place lots to see .
We some fantastic fish and chips, i know this is not possible now but it would be great if they served them in newspaper give that yesterday's experience.
I. B.
Thanks for a great time .fun was had by the hole family
J. S.
The cost is quite expensive, £26.50, but the ticket covers all the locations and lasts for twelve months. You need to allow three to fours to cover Blists Hill Victorian village. The Fish & Chips are wonderful !
L. H.
Excellent day out not much more to say just very good experience
R. D.
Fantastic place run by and with super friendly people. You can easily spend few hours here with or without kids. I spent 4 hrs and enjoyed every minute. Highly recommend!
D. M.
Lovely place to visit, but not very wheelchair friendly. The entrance was OK and a lift up to street level but the hill was a killer.
H.
A fun and happy place for all the family, really well run - lots of exciting and fun things to see and even a museum for kids to be interactive. -Victoria town very fun and interesting -lots of old shops. - theres lots and lots to see -highly recommended
S. L.
Excellent value for money
The people were friendly and informative about the surroundings and it's incredible past 👌
A. M.
A lovely victorian village. Great to be able to change money into old pennies to spend in the shops. Best chip shop ever. Kids loved the sweet shop. There's also a lovely woodland walk. All in all a great day out.
D. O.
A really nice "living" museum. Lots of buildings with actors dressed in period costume, a sing-along in the pub, traditional chemist/pharmacy... an enjoyable visit.
R. W.
Like stepping back in time. You do have to pay for parking however it’s not much and you can then also take a gentle stroll into ironbridge to visit the other museums.
C. B.
A nice place to visit for the day and stroll back in time, lots to see and do for all ages and you can even change money at their bank into currency of that era and spend it in the shops.
N. C.
Wonderful place well worth the visit but if you go in afternoon i would take sandwhiches
D. H.
Absolutely delightful day out. A cliche but fun for all the family.
A. B.
Love te knowledge of all the people there. All very friendly. Great different experience for all ages.
A. B.
Good day out with visitors from outside the area but it was an expensive day. Check the cost of entry before you decide to visit and make sure you take TLC card, if you're a local. Despite the costly entry fee there are further costs once inside; Clay Mine and Fairground rides are extra. Lastly, parking isn't free (£5).
V.
Best museum but school lesson was a let down, could have been so much more with some lesson planning by teachers. The cottage s and all businesses running are brilliant
I. Z.
Really great experience, even with Covid-19 restrictions - some one way systems, a few queues, no real impediment to the experience. Acting staff are amazing, really genuine interest in sharing their knowledge in a fun and accessible way. The fun fair has been taken down but they're putting together the ice skating rink in its place.
L. H.
What a lovely place so much to see and very interesting to learn about days gone by
S. R.
Very much enjoyed our family trip to the museum. Lots to see and experience. Staff and volunteers always happy to answer your questions. Only downside is the entrance price which is very high. On top of that one has to pay for parking and most activities on the site cost extra as well.
N. J.
Excellent day out and to see the steampunk festival the fish and chips was heaven really tasty. Really interesting place with plenty to see and do
W. B.
Great day out pre_booked iceskating well worth it amazing staff adhering to guidelines lots to see and do cant wait for next visit
D. l.

B. W.
Spent a lovely day there, staff were so friendly and helpful. My son especially loved the new playground there.
R. W.
A very enjoyable day out. Lots to see and do. Fun for all ages.
J. S.
Expensive but actually worth it. Staff are so kind and knowledgeable. You could spent the whole day here.
E. B.
Great place to visit, it's worth getting the passport ticket as it does many places and lasts for a year. It was Steampunk weekend.
W. H.
Brilliant afternoon, great to experience times gone by, knowledgeable staff, I will definitely return
V. W.
Lovely place for all ages
M. H.
Great museum stepping back in time to visit a historic village with very informative staff
n. j.
Had a fantastic day out load to see and do and we can go back again for free.
J. H.
We had a great day out. The children enjoyed spending their Victorian money which they exchanged at the bank. Sugar mice, honey cookies and the fish and chips went down well! The play area was excellent and we all really enjoyed looking at the buildings and finding out more about the Victorian era. We will be back!
N. H.
Great place to have a look back in time. Great place for kids to learn that everything just wasn't given to them in the Victorian era.
R. F.
Absolutely awesome day out, great friendly staff, totally recommend, can't wait until my next visit
D. J.
Great way to experience the past, sweet shop, chip shop, chemist, pub all Victorian themed, use old money to buy things, great family day out.
B. K.
Been here several times, always something new. Great interaction with staff, who really take in interest in explaining history.
Well worth a visit
p. b.
An enjoyable way to see life like it was in the 19th century. Some interesting shops and a very good fish and chips shop
S. D.
Victorian Town was built as an open-air "living" museum on a former industrial complex located on 52 acres of land. The museum recreates a Victorian Shropshire Town from the late 19th and early 20th centuries complete with homes, shops, and places of work. There are three major areas: the town area, the ironworks area, and the countryside area.
The museum includes a Victorian pharmacy, post office and stationers, grocers, blacksmiths, bank, grocer and sweet shop, fish dealer, undertakers, and butchers; there are working blast furnaces, an iron foundry, stables, and print works, as well as a school, church, and mine railway. The best part of the experience by far was the typography and design work on the buildings, packaging, and signs; you can visit the working printing shop, see letterpress printing on original machinery, and even buy prints made using the original printing blocks.
S. T.
A nice place to visit, you can change money in the bank for old currency. Has a sweet shop, bakery, post office, clothes store, pub and plenty more. There are people dressed appropriate to the times and they are always happy to talk about the town and what times would have been like back then.
S. E.
This was a great experience despite tge weather plenty to see and very interesting staff were very informative too
n. t.
Incredible place. Lots of things to learn and all of that in beautiful nature scenery. Not to mention the lovely food!
T. (.
I would come here everyday if I could. My favourite family place in Shropshire!! So realistic and the actors/staff have a vast amount of knowledge too. There's also ducks, pigs, chickens and cart horses one called George who is very kind!
n. f.
Lovely day out , be prepared for queues though
L. R.
A brilliant day out, friendly staff and dog friendly to. Highly recommended for a visit
A. J.
Absolutely loved this place so much to see and do. We changed our money at the bank and went exploring. Don't know why it took us so long to visit.
I. N.
We have visited Victorian Town on several occasions with our kids and we always had a lovely time, even in the rain! They have disabled access, a café, a pub, a restaurant and a fish and chips shop (the chips are to die for!). In 2021, they opened their adventure playground which has two sections: one suitable for little ones, and another suitable for older kids.
The people working on site are all lovely, helpful and very knowledgeable. If you love history, feel free to ask questions and have a chat with them because they are more than happy to answer and explain things.
Before Christmas, they set up an ice rink and Santa had visited the town as well, to everyone's delight (free chocolates were flying in the air after singing Jingle bells).
Overall, it is a great place to visit, but I strongly recommend to get an annual pass because we couldn't visit everything the first time!
J. F.
To see how life was.
V. A.
Fabulous town! We had a lovely day here! Everyone is really friendly. Love the history, the animals, the walks, the shops, the amazing fish & chips (a must!) and great little pub. Visited the bakery. The bread and honey biscuits were lovely. We weren't keen on the shortbread and fruit bread though - personal tastes maybe. So so worth a visit and we will definitely return. Even our 16 yr old daughter loved it. 😊👍
J. H.
Great day out with the family and a huge eye opener for my daughter as to how easy kids have it these days!😁
A. F.
Lovely to experience the village, although the weather was damp..
S. C.
A good day out for all ages. Lots of great things to see and sample, definitely worth a visit - much better than I thought it was going to be.
i. r.
Great day. May seem a little expensive however good value for money food good. Staff friendly and informative. Well worth a visit.
K. H.
Been twice since it reopened. They have different displays each day so there's always something different to see. But it takes a good 6 hours just to look at everything and a bit of lunch - the stuff they make on site is good value although the queues are long due to staff self isolating.
Now it's opened, the fair ground is running again, and there's a fantastic new adventure playground, built on a slope so it uses the topography to the maximum.
This place is good for all ages and it's staffed by lovely people in period costume.
S. W.
Cracking day out with a little one. Have been before and will come back again and dog friendly as well.
S. B.
You could spend more than a day here. All the staff love their roles playing them with a lot of enthusiasm. The animals are all very well cared for and content with people around. Don't miss the sing along in the pub. Loved the old money and shops you could buy from. The forest cafe does incredible vegan food great value meals old fashioned drinks free water station to top your bottles up. Eco compostable cutlery and packaging highly recommended.
M. R.
We bought a family pass for the year which was a bargain. The town is still as good as I remember from years ago. The new outdoor play area for the kids is amazing! I wish I was young again so I could have a go! Not much of the amusements open on day of visit but we still had a great day!!
R. P.
Fabulous place to visit, lots of interesting things to learn and wonderful helpful staff.
S. G.
Fantastic time listening to all about our history. Great to see the children trying to work out thd old money !
D. B.
Fantastic time here. Staff are brilliant and the village is great fun to wander round.
E. A. P.
A very nice place to visit. Staff in period costume, friendly and knowledgeable.
Excellent exhibits.
Good food outlets.
Pleasant walks around the site.
All in all a fun day out.
Not cheap to get in there!
I would have given 5 stars but for the extra parking charge costs!
Smacks of "let's grab as much as we can from them" syndrome.
"Would I go again?"
Most probably, but BHVM, remove the parking costs for visitors, don't be greedy!

It was one of my favourite places to go amazing

Great place to visit. Lots to see and changing modern day money into old victorian money to buy things such as bread and sweets etc is a lovely novelty. It's been nice to be a victorian for the day especially in the pub with a sing song!
J. B.
Lovely people on site, very knowledgeable. Lots of different buildings, school, shops, houses etc, all in victorian splendour
R. P.
Great place for a few hours of history. Fish n chips were great too.
L. D.
Great day out for all the family. Beef dripping chips are a must. So much to see and do
M. M.
Great place to take the kids.
L. B.
One of the best living museums in the country. People who work there are informative and very friendly.
P. B.
Absolutely amazing. Well worth a visit for every age group.
K. G.
Wonderful place to visit, fish & chips are beautiful. Children will love it as well
K. S.
Love the place and atmosphere. Feel like 100 years ago. Lovely people work there.
B. G.

D. W.
Great day out well worth a visit really enjoyed it 😊
S. G.
Great place too go for the whole family...something for everyone...good interactions from staff...lots too see and do
C. W.
A definite must to visit when in the area. It's like stepping back in time time and the museum makes your experience more realistic when you visit the bank to change your modern money for old. In every shop characters keep up the vision and are extremely informative about the period. Don't miss a visit here!
K. W.
Buy a season ticket far cheaper plus u can use Tesco points
L. P.
Great place for a family trip, with a must visit to the chip shop and Victorian fair.
D. C.
Well run, great attraction with authentic and fun characters - thought it was expensive but.....over five hours later l had settled the cost as thouroughly worth it and we had a fantastic time
J.
Great afternoon out, well worth a trip with the family.
G. M.
Very interesting to visit. Need to allow a full day to get most out of it
P. T.
A Great day out for all the family. Young and old Best value for all the Iron Bridge Museums is to get
an Annual pass.
S. C.
Fun living history museum that allows you to experience early 1900s England. We went on a weekday and other than a few school groups we had lots of space to walk around and explore the buildings.
A. A.
Brilliant place. Feels very authentic and there are a lot of great little touches, like using old coins for buying souvenirs. One thing to note though is that due to the nature of the architecture some places are a bit harder to access with a wheelchair or a pushchair.
Z. D.
Magical day out transported back in time. Living History at its best fun and educational. We loved exchanging our money for pounds shilling and pence and spending I in the sweet shop and on the fairground rides. The shire horses were just gorgeous. Highly recommended!
J. G.
A little pricey for what it is.
A very maintained and clean small slice of Victorian Town life.
I strongly recommend going in the morning. The little bakery was sold out of biscuits and shortbread by 12:15.
£20 entry per adult, £5 parking.
The fish and chips are delicious.
Very helpful and interactive costumed staff.
Cashpoint available on site.
R. D.
Friendly people in the historic site.
L. T.
Very pleasant although a big climb up from the fair rides if walking is an issue.

Good trip. Bit expensive at £69 for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teenaged sons)(however this gets you an annual ticket, no option of single trip ticket), plus £4 for the car park (£1 per hour) OR spend over £20 inside to get parking free (that's a bit of a con as this is in th middle of nowhere and nobody would park here except to go to this attraction). Bit like Beamish. Not sure which is better as it's been a long time since we went to Beamish, but some bits here are less curated, more rough, some slightly derelict. Lots to see inside, but queues for some areas (due to Covid19 - one family in at a time - restrictions) and the massive slow queue for the chip shop even at 3pm (still really enjoyed the fish and chips)(3 x fish and chips is slightly more than £20 thus giving you 'free' parking). 10min walk to 'The Hay Inclined Plane' basically a short section of track where cargo loads where transferred from the canal to the river up (or down) an incline, and then the return (muddy) leg back along 'The Miner's Walk' to the Lower Settlement. Interesting face to face talks by the chemist, the winding engine operator, the furnace man, toll road house person, bank teller (cannot change money currently to shillings etc) China Clay maker. Sad we missed the iron casting demonstration (Weds).

The place was interesting and the safe in the exhibits knowledable. I thought the prices were expensive £2.50 for a small bottle of pop and £4.50 for half a cider. Other stuff in the shops was expensive too. Cafe was good, the manager ws lovely and service excellent.
L. M.
This place is really great for a day out with the kids. I love the new outdoor play area where basically you can leave your kid playing for hours without having to worry too much.
The personnel is amazing, always really kind and professional
B. T.
A truly magical place to visit, very well laid out and bringing the old to life.
S. S.
Authentic buildings museum. Arrive early for a full day experience as there's lots to see and do. Better still, buy the family Ironbridge season ticket and visit all the other amazing Ironbridge museums and stay for the weekend. The area is a world heritage site and well deserved. If you're interested in the industrial revolution and social history you won't be disappointed!
J. B.
What a lot to see for adults. Kids we came across seemed To be enjoying it too.
L. C.
Great experience... I did it with a school travel and that was amazing there's a lot of things to see... The people who work there are pretty cool they have period costumes... That creates a good immersion
If you talk to them in the houses they'll tell you their "story" with some detail of the Victorian period!
You can buy some little things at the apothecary... You can do some photos
You can eat and you can assist at a school lesson with the old method! There's a lot of jobs which were representanted such as a teacher, the farmers, the hairdresser, the seamstress, the blacksmith is very cool to see (his Instagram is @jacksammo), you can see how to make wax...
That was very cool and interesting to see all that village!
l. r.
Hi everyone i would like to tell youabout blists hill victorian village it is a short. drive from telford but it is well worth it you have a Victorian street lined with little shops rainging from a bank to change your money to pounds, shillings and pence if you want to a general store and a bakery where you can buy fresh baked bread which was very tasty to name a grw you cann spend all day there and if you get pekish there's a great chippy
L. J. T.
Great day out, lots to see and find out about. Staff dressed in Victorian costume really add to the experience..good to see younger people on the staff especially in the historic buildings. Very informative. Nice places to sit and picnic ..it was a hot day and would have loved to see an icecream seller about the streets,! Lovey day out ...need a bit more advertising as to what's on each day so we could have planned more -)
J.
Great history and loved the carousel ride for my granddaughter. Ice cream vendor was quite rude and slammed her stock around when serving. I think she was upset about something it maybe the fact I changed my mind and asked for two scoops of ice cream.
T. G.
A brilliant day out. Plenty to see and staff very friendly and informative.
R. E.
Great day out and a brilliant insight to how things once were.
Parking is a bit steep at £5 when we came out (especially as there's not much choice).
The fish and chips shop had a long queue and is popular. We had the saltiest fish and chips ever as well!! The ladies in there were doing a phenomenal job considering there were just 2 of them with lots of hungry mouths to feed.
The incline lift wasn't working and the steam train wasn't running either on the day we visited.
We will be back and look forward to vising some of the other museums.
G. M.
Brilliant day out. Very atmospheric and full of nostalgia
Z. T.
Very nice day out lots to see and do, nice walk and some place to eat, old school sweet shop, worth to visit. The entrance is a bit pricey but their annual ticket is really good value.
W. W.
Fabulous place to visit. Best fish and chips ever. Highly recommended.
I. W.
Beautiful day out great weather...will be going again for deffo...👌
I. A.
A good Victorian town to walk around need plenty of time to go around.
a. b.
Great recreation of victorian life. The historical facts around the industrial boom need updating. The school classroom experience is an exercise jn humiliation and embarrassment for students. I felt sorry for them being verbally abused by cane wielding teacher for writing with left hand. Thank god we are all woke snowflakes now 😆
J. S.
Fantastic museum with lots to explore. Totally immersive and engrossing.
G. B.
Quite expensive but good surroundings they seems to be developing and improving
D. B.
Beautiful place to visit plenty to experience for walkers and disabled lifts for wheel chairs and a proper English chippy
J. T.
A great family day out with so much to see. Loved the experience and the talks from the various experts (candle maker, horse expert, school teacher to name but a few) were really interesting and fun. Kids loved the Victorian sweet shop. Finished off the day with a visit to the fish and chip shop and a pint in the Inn. 😊
S. H.
Very interesting place to visit. Both staff and volunteers very knowledgeable and great to chat to.
d. f.
A great day out with the kids, they loved the new play area. Picnic benches, clean toilets and great coffee. Staff are friendly and changing money and stroking the horse were favourites. The new play area and dog show have enhanced the blist hill experience.
B. H.
Bliss Hill, never fails to deliver, its a great snapshot and experience of times gone by.
P. L.
Thoroughly enjoyed a few hours here along with our young basset hound Elsie. The site has been well adapted with a variety of period style notices and subtle one way / distance markers to ensure we adhere to the 6 and 3/4 feet distance with the motto 'protect yourself - protect others'.
W. H.
A great day out for the whole family. Loved the fish and chips.
D. P.
A very good place for a visit. Only reason why I gave it 4 stars is on cost. But it is still worth a visit
t. s.
We had a lovely day. Very dog friendly. Definately recommend
L. B.
Felt empty . A lot of the demos were empty and there's not a huge amount of info if your a history buff.
H. S.
Loved it .great place to look back at history
l. h.
Lovely day out. Take a picnic enjoy
W. A.
Not as wheelchair friendly as I would of liked but still had a fab time x but nearly killed us off pushing wheelchair up massive hill xx
J. B.
Simply a brilliant day out. Staff in Victorian. Costume willing to chat and give information. Cafés, woodland walks, activities and very dog friendly. Would have been 5 stars except that after paying £40 for two of us to get in we didn't expect to be charged an extra £4 to park on site.
S. w.
Great family day out - highly recommend, sneaking history into kids
S. B.
We came to Blists Hill Victorian Town to see the Man Engine display which was excellent. It was late in the day so didn't get to experience much of the town but the parts we did see were excellent and we'll be coming back soon to see more.
E. J.
A nice day out with plenty to do for both kids and adults.
L. H.
Thoroughly enjoyed the Steampunk weekend volunteering during the weekend and camping there the museum staff were so helpful and friendly. The experience was amazing and terrific really recommend the visit!
D. A.
Wonderful day out for all the family. An absolute must. Definitely can spend all day here.
E. M.
Really fun day out, the village looks amazing and the Victorian people there make it really come alive! The kids had a great time and it was interesting and historical. Would visit again!
A. R.
Fantastic facilities annual pass user lots of return visits
M. G.
Not very disabled friendly, very hilly
L. G.
Had a lovely day here such a nice little town with lots of things to experience and do
S. H.
Plenty to see and explore you can even buy things from the shops. Somthing to do for all the family a full day out.
W. G.
A great day out, we'll worth the entrance fee, with friendly staff and demonstrations and the chips are good too. Not sure it's suitable for very young children or older teens, unless they are interested in social or industrial history but if you are it's a must.
T. K.
It was raining. Very raining 🤣
And yet there was so much to see, such nice and knowledgeable people to talk to, so much hands-on, living heritage that we loved every minute.
Even better than expected were chips like you won't find elsewhere and the woodland playground.
The woodland play area is *excellent* with a zip wire that doesn't make you feel cheated (I am "an adult").
Just lovely, all-round. Go if you haven't been. If you have been: go again!
